gummy, you're quite the fool if you think I actually expect all that stuff right away, if ever. I'm describing some ideal gameplay mechanics that the devs should shoot for. There's no reason to shoot down future goals just because you think you know everything about game development and BI, which apparently you don't. DayZ made Bi booku bucks on sales of Arma 2, not to mention all the sales revenue they just got from Arma 3. They have some development cash to go around. Just look at what they've done with the engine so far. The only reason they haven't attempted certain things is because they chose not to. They aren't just a bunch of fucking hobos sitting around in an abandoned warehouse with laptops they bought at goodwill like "OKAY GUYUZ LETS MAEK GAMEZ NOW LOLZ." They are going to continue developing the game. Rocket said himself, they aren't putting vehicles in until they've been done right. They've already discussed vehicles having batteries and other features. It's not impossible. Just because you think it is, doesn't make it true. They just need time to develop the game into the product it is aiming to be. This project is fundamentally a ground-up experiment. That being said, despite all it's flaws, it has a great core and actually the Vr engine can be quite flexible. If you think it's so limited, why don't you just look at armaholic. If this game was so utterly shit to begin with and it was impossible to make new features, then how could mods like Overwatch and Epoch exist, not to mention other great mods like A.C.E? The engine is quite flexible and I think perfectly capable, given time and a focused direction. The only reason vehicles in Arma aren't treated that way now is because they were not designed from the bottom up as a survival game. -

Well, if you like PvE and PvP, you may like DayZ Origins. The mod features base building, so you can store guns and vehicle parts. That way, it encourages clan battles while also keeping the normal DayZ spirit alive. You can choose to be a hero or bandit and it's pretty simple to fix up vehicles/find weapons. Right now, we're just starting up, so we're small (4-6) but I think we'll grow abit the next week or so. We don't want to be too big but we want to have a decent size to defend ourselves from some of the more unfriendly people on the server. Plus, it'll make for some unique/interesting DayZ experiences. If you're still interested, feel free to PM me for our TS info. -

The zombie spawning while inside vehicles should be taken a look into. I also noticed it while driving around in a car, everytime we got through a town the frames started dropping really hard. Also I think the zombie counter is way to high, I alone spawned like 40 zombies and more at Pogorevka. If you think about it that's way too many. If everyone on a full 50 player server spawns that much zombies it's no wonder servers begin to lagg and players experience frame drops.

I drive whatever I can find. Other than that, mostly I walk. I generally never bring a gas powered vehicle into town, I'll hide it a few klicks away and carefully hike in, infiltrate, loot, ect. If I'm in a shit spawn like Kamenka, I generally just run straight north. It's stupid to do anything else. The further north you go, the closer to the edge of the map you are, the more likely you are to find a nice little player hidden vehicle and live for more than 1 hour and 9 minutes. Come to think of it, you never seem to lose humanity from stealing. That's kind of interesting to me. I mean, I consider the laws they have up in Canada or Alaska and such that basically say it's legal to break into a shelter in a life or death situation, as often times a lonely hiker may find themselves in. I guess that's a pretty big rationalization for snatching every scrap of another man's worldly possessions, but eh. I'm only borrowing it, really. By the time I log back in, it will probably be gone. (Car keys? SA? Please don't release vehicles in the standalone without keys. Hot-wiring, acceptable if done right.) Anyway, every time I spawn I basically mad dash north to the treeline at the very least. Unless I'm in a town, in which case I'm like Sam Fisher until I find a gun. I guess I'm addressing your question more generally as "how I get around." I try to stay concealed at all times. Keep the high ground wherever it might be advantageous. Observe all possible sniping positions and scan carefully. Ect. When in doubt, go North. That's my motto. I usually make big loops and double back through woods to get to a destination. It's my way of checking my own six, and also sweeping the map for vehicles or tents. More often than not, I'll come across something to get me on my way. -

Right now ghillie suits are kind of useless in fields and even in some forests. Grass does not render over 50 meters away from you so you can't hide in grass, and you end up looking like a fool because to someone who sees you, it appears you are in an open field with no grass. It also would be useful to prone in grass when you hear a vehicles coming towards you so you can let it pass instead of having to shoot it. I just think since the grass is 2 feet tall, why not be able to hide in it?

For Bohemia it's necessary to make cuts to get anywhere. You have exceedingly high hopes. On what planet could any of that be possible when its necessary for them to skip vehicle development just to meet a 2 year deadline on a project that some would argue was almost finished to begin with. They have no base for vehicles in their server framework going into the "alpha" which means they'll have to start from scratch when they begin working on them. That's not a good thing in this context. Starting from scratch on something important may be a good thing but starting from scratch after 2 years is embarrassing. Bohemia also has a poor record with bugs and patches. They always develop slow and they've never been able to add content onto something without breaking something else in the process. Long story short, Bohemia isn't, doesn't, and never will do it right, nor will you ever see anything in that list of yours in the game. -

Hi and thanks in advance, Im new to hosting a server and have been messing with the DB and server and seem to have messed things up. I am running Epoch 1.0.2.4. For starters When the control panel spawns vehicles it spawns them with an InstanceID of "1" yet in the player_data table all players have an InstanceID of "11". Surely this cant be right? As to me this looks like two different instances? Also can you tell me what should be in the "Instance" table and what it is for? * new development * I seem to have broken the character_data table as no actual character data now appears in there! Oops! That's what happens when customer service doesn't gat back to you in a reasonable amount of time! Thanks in advance. Oh I would also like to mention that I have 2 tickets with HFBServers one from 3 days ago with no response and one from 2 days ago asking them to rebuild my server so I can start again and have had no response there either. There customer service sucks balls! If I had known it was that bad I would have went elsewhere.

I'm not happy to see the absence of vehicles in the Alpha, but I understand why it's necessary. I want vehicle repairs to be more complex and in depth when they redo them. I'd love to see vehicles have real maintenance problems like dead batteries, bad starter motors, alternators, manifold gaskets, spark plugs or ignition coils, cracked hoses, bad belts, ect. On top of that it would be great to see fluid levels that are important to a car's function. You could pour water (or perhaps even urinate) into a radiator to keep an overheating car running. There could be an oil level which would go down very, very slowly, but over time would require replacement. Perhaps the presence of cracked hoses in a car could result in low power steering fluid or brake fluid. All of these parts and fluid levels would affect a vehicles overall performance dynamically. Cars could sometimes have manuals which would explain symptoms of a vehicle and common problems that could cause it. If they made the system nuanced and difficult enough, it could require some real skill to actually repair a car effectively. I'd also like to see a function similar to the "study Body" feature which would have to be used on the hood of a vehicle to examine it and find out what might be wrong with it, instead of just having that information given to you as soon as you get in. The vehicle hud should only give you things like fuel level, temperature, oil pressure, and engine warning lights. -

I'm sorry no wild zeds are not back yet. 1: Yea this is something the community could have fixed pretty easy but it seems dayz just turned into a money printing machine. Once this happened everything just went out of the window. How hard was it to rename private hives or to create a new mod not using the Dayz name. (Just to make it all simple) 2: Now don't get me wrong but i prefer private servers over the official. The idea for the official was great when the rules got enforced but that is something well out of our control now. We know admins currently running on the official that modify content. Other servers that re-spawn damage vehicles as soon as they blow up the list goes on. So yes the official was a good idea at the start but now its more trouble then its worth.

Those are great examples of mods that drastically improved the sales of the original game they were based on, but take a moment to notice that none of those mods had a negative effect on the playability and reputation of Half-Life. To this day you can go jump onto Half-Life and Half-Life 2 servers and play the original game with a lot of people. Half-Life is still a unique and different game from the mods that were developed using HL's code. The complaint that many people here (myself included) is that the way in which the DayZ community went about developing the game and variations of it ultimately damaged the original game that Dean came up with. Far too many people *think* they are playing a "challenging" zombie survival game when they jump in a private hive or a mod like Overwatch and are geared up with military gear and vehicles in 20 minutes while facing no serious threat with zombies. That is the impression that many people have of DayZ. Also, the mods/spinoffs were so close to the official mod in the look and feel of the game that it took the audience away from the challenging game because the instant gratification of the modded mods was too tempting. I'm not saying that this is wrong, I am just bummed that this is how it turned out. Hopefully Dean an BI will protect what they create so that it still offers a unique gaming experience in the midst of mods that will come out of it.

Absolutely! Remember, people are *FAR* more likely to be vocal online about something they hate than something they like. A lot of people out there are back into the official mod because of the recent developments you guys have made. Sadly, I think there are many out there who would like it but are missing out simply because 1) it's hard to navigate DayZ with it's many mods and terribly setup private hives with extra gear and vehicles...this confuses new players into thinking they're playing DayZ when they join an Epoch or Overwatch server; and 2) people were really turned off by hackers in public hives and are reluctant to come back. I literally had to beg a few of my friends to come back to public DayZ and now that they finally have they're loving it! Keep it up! Your hard work is more appreciated than you know.

IMO it's impossible to "properly" reintroduce them because they don't fit the setting in the first place. Anyways I don't see why anyone needs .50-caliber rifles. Anti-vehicular purposes? There are no armored vehicles to contend with, just use a PKM. A machine gun should be far more effective at quickly chewing through vehicle occupants than any AMR. Long-range sniping? Lots of other rifles to do that - longest confirmed sniper kill is with a .338 Lapua, and look at people shooting elk at absurd ranges with their .30-378s etc.

To fly good you need to practice ive clocked about 10 hours inside air vehicles in the 2 years i've been playing ARMA 2. I'm a better pilot then most, but there are some like my friend who can fly like a pro. He was flying a huey and an his group got in a conflict with an Mi-17 he picked up his friends and the choppers exchanged fire, my friend pulled up beside the Mi-17 on the side with no gun and barrel rolled over the top of it while his gunner was firing at the engine of the '17. it dropped out of the sky and he flipped straight again. pilots like a boss.
