  1. voddler (DayZ)

    The North is almost empty

Currently, there's no reason to leave the coast. Only the reason would be less players, but with no vehicles to repair/players to meet I don't see a reason why you would want to leave it. If you're not a lonewolf of course, but I like finding friends on the coast right now :) There are also lots of houses to loot, so it takes much longer to actually scavenge a city for things.
  2. xX_fr0st-w0lf_Xx (DayZ)

    Not sure what to do..

Yea once you got full gear there is very little to do. Especially with the lack of vehicles at the moment.
  3. autoloon

    Vehicle (bicycle)

I rarely ever use vehicles in the mod. My singular goal is to stay alive. Being in possession of a vehicle for longer than a short period of time has only caused me grief in the end.
  4. diznoid

    Vehicle (bicycle)

Vehicles are going to be a while. Don't hold your breath.

    Large Content Timeline

Rocket stated when Alpha was released, we would be able to view their little "timeline" on things to tackle and things to code/produce/etc.. I was solely wondering when we will see Vehicles start being coded/created. Notice I'm not asking when they will be implemented, just simply when Dean might start working on them. Please share if you have any info on this and if Dean is reading this, can you provide some insight? God-like game btw man.
  6. I hated it at first, that was just my reaction because it was different to the mod and I didn't quite get it. However after playing for several hours, I get the UI now, I get how often you have to drink/eat and I get things like where I have to go for loot. While not all the systems are great, I do not think any changes should be made just yet. People are still getting used to the game and there is nothing worse than making rash changes based on first opinions. I mean the Unconscious thing is something that happened to me once and never again. It's pretty easy to just eat and drink when told, I don't think having UI indicators is really a great change either. Playing Breaking Point, when your stomach rumbles, you're hungry and the more it rumbles, the more urgent you need to eat, the same goes for being out of breathe and needing water. I much prefer that, it feels way more natural than half arsing a UI indicator like what the mod had.. Not finding loot? Well travel around the map more, I'm finding tons of loot by just travelling to places I wouldn't normally go. I think the spawn system doesn't help as most people spawn in the south, however I think we can all help by spreading out, I don't think spawn rates need to increase. I think there is too much loot when it comes to certain types like weapons such as the M4 or the masks, they're everywhere and they're too common now. I've really settled down into the game now and I'm loving it. I personally think there are better things to focus on... - Allowing us to easily see what server we're on once we're in game, or just being able to invite friends via Steam. - Fixing Zombie A.I - Fixing the horrible melee system - Vehicles etc etc.

    Who loves the new SA??

I will love it once loot is fixed, not having to eat and drink all the time, more weapons are in, vehicles, I'd also like a place where I can meet other players, like a hub somewhere, where players can trade and talk about their adventures
  8. I wake up, my head hurts. It feels like I have once again been drinking too much. Very close, I hear waves of water hitting the shoreline, one by one. It is dark, very dark and I dont know where I am. My stomach grumbles, but I dont have food on me. Where am I? How did I get here? What is going on? So many questions inside of my head. But no time to think about them for too long now. I need to find food first. In the distance I see a city. "Maybe someone over there can tell me more and help me" I think. And so I grab my flashlight and start my journey towards what I will get to know to be Chernogorsk. After a while of running, I see a person stumbling around on the street. Maybe he can tell me where I am. As I get closer to the man, I notice that something is not right with this man. He turns around and as he spots me, he starts running towards me. "Are you alright?" I yell at him, in a friendly manner. His reaction, a fearsome moaning makes my bones chill. I am scared. I cant move. He gets closer and closer to me. By now I know that whatever he is doing, I sure dont want to stick around to see what is wrong with him. I get to my senses and run. The man keeps following me for a while, as I get closer and closer to the city. A few minutes later, I managed to lose him in between some houses. By now I am in the middle of the big city that was my destination. He seemed like he was trying to kill me. Why? What did I, of all people, do to him? As I come to my senses and the adrenaline slowly fades, I notice that something is not right with this town. It looks abandoned. No lights. Open doors left and right. Just where in gods name am I? I am very thirsty and hungry. My body is shaking and I am slowly feeling my consciousness fading. I decide to look for food. As I wander around the streets, I end up infront of a big church. There it is again. This moaning. Did the man from earlier follow me? Did he find me again? I can feel the adrenaline go through my body as I hear more and more moaning coming from all directions? I feel desperate and for a moment I think I am going to die in this godforsaken place. "Psst" I hear it coming from behind the church "Get off the street". I follow the voice and eventually I see a man with a spade and a gas mask cower in a corner. Carefully I walk towards him, still remembering what happened the list time I tried to get close to a stranger. "What the hell is going on here?" I ask him. He tells me to follow him and that I will get my answers very soon if I stick close and do what he says. We end up at a grocery store that seems to have been abandoned. The stranger and I sit down in the back. He shares his food and drink with me and tells me where I am, what is going on and what to do. I dont know what to think. His story sounds like it comes directly out of a bad written novel. But I cannot deny what I have seen, so I decide to believe him. As we talk further I get to know the strangers name - Tom. He says that he has friends that he wants to meet at an airfield very close to this city and asks me if I want to accompany him. I dont think about it for long and agree to follow. Anything to get out of this hellish place. As we grab some scarce food and drinks, left in the story, he tells me more about his plans. He wants to go north. Far north. But our only hope to make it there is the airfield, as we dont have a map and supplies are very short. Maybe we will find a vehicle, maybe even something to fly with. I am starting to have hope that I will make it out of this country alive. We turn our flashlights off and go east. Far east. As we get closer to the airfield, we see lights flickering through the forest that we are in. Interested we go further and eventually we arrive by the airfield. The lights have stopped. What I see, it terrifies me. Bodies. Everywhere. Dead bodies left and right. We search for supplies in the radio tower but find nothing useful. Tom says his friends should be already here. He seems worried. As we go into one of the hangars we see someone sitting in a corner. It is one of Toms friends. He is bleeding. Next to him, the other friend. He is dead. "What do we do?" I ask. We dont have medical supplies. Tom pulls out some rags to stop the bleeding. And there we go, it worked. His friend explains what happened. They were looking for supplies when they got attacked by zombies. We sit in the dark and talk for a while. Shortly after, his friend fell unconscious. "We have to leave him" Tom says. "What? Why?" I ask. "Because we have no medical supplies and we cant hope to find any close to here" Tom answers. I feel uncomfortable, I am scared and desperate. There are no vehicles. Toms friends died and we have almost no supplies left. Am I going to die after all? In the distance, we see large appartment buildings on a hill, just on the other side of a forest. Tom says that they are our only hope for now. As we leave, we dont look back. By now I realized that I wont make it out of here without Tom and his knowledge of the area. We talk more, on the way. Tom tells me about his story. He too found himself close to the shore, a while before I did. He met his friends, that are dead now, while he was running through a forest, trying to get away from a zombie. They helped him and showed him around. We arrive at the appartments. "Wow, this place looks abandoned" I say to him as we enter one of the enormous buildings. The staircase is destroyed. Our only way up is through an elevator shaft with a rusty ladder. My stomach tells me not to do it, but what chance do we have? I grab onto the ladder and start climbing up. Not once, I look down. Too great the fear of falling. As we finally get out of the elevator shaft we find a couple of open doors. "Someone has been here before" Tom says to me. We decide to look for loot nonetheless. We are about to starve after all. Tom says its better if we split up. This way we can look for food faster. I agree and we part ways for now. After a while of searching, all we had found was a rotten banana. I took it. Didnt care if it was rotten or not. It was food and that was all that mattered. We decided to check the other buildings aswell. As we come to the last building, this it has gotten to be a routine way of searching. I take the lower floors, tom takes the upper ones. No words needed. After I was done and have been sitting around waiting for a while, I decided to go upstairs. Something was not right. Tom never took that long. I search through the upper appartments but no sign of Tom. I climb up on the roof - and again, nothing. Did he leave me without saying anything? That didnt seem like him. I waited a bit longer and eventually, I decided to go. I had to. As I reached bottom floor I saw him, dead. It looked like he fell all the way from the roof. Was it an accident? Did he jump? Why would that matter to me now. I am lost. He was my only hope and now I am on my own again. What do I do now? I feel desperate. Was this all for nothing? Did I go through all of that, just to die here now, on my own? I dont know what do to. After sitting around for a while I decide to try my luck. If I will die on the way, fine. I dont have better chances at surviving if I stick around here for any longer. Too many zombies around. I grab Toms stuff - what was left of it at least and go. North. Maybe I will be able to make it through the vast lands and forests and find a way out of this place. Thanks to tom I got a good amount of supplies now at least. As I start my journey I think of what might be lying ahead of me now. But that, I dont know. Only the future will tell.
  9. Fellow Enthusiasts I have been here almost from the very beginning. I bridged over and began playing DayZ roughly two years ago -- in short I've been a long time player and server administrator. I recently closed my last hosting (US 520) thanks you to an unadultereated frustration with my hosting company... but also because DayZ now seems to lack something. There has been little to no innovation in the game in the last two years and changes have been very ponderous. The current game is based on finding weapons, food & water, medical supplies and vehicles.... the original game was based on finding weapons, food and water, medical supplies and vehicles. Everything you put in a tent or left in a hidden spot could be found while you were offline.... and the same is true today. Nothing has changed in over two years with regards to the base gameplay... there is no base building, there are no key sets for a vehicle... there's no safety for your hard work... which brings me to the point at hand... Standalone This has taken so long that the hype brought about from DayZ as an alpha has long past from people's memory. DayZ was innovative two years ago... now vanilla DayZ is old news and sadly so are the things that Standalone has promised to bring to the field. I have searched every barn and every city at least 10 times... how is DayZ Standalone going to be different from original DayZ and set itself apart? the truth is... its not going to. It is going to be the same thing I've done for almost two years. The innovativeness this game had as an MMO FPS with RPG elements has burned out after all these years and there are games based on DayZ now (WarZ, Infestation....) that are offering something similar to what standalone is offering. This game has just taken too long... For the new people coming to the game that have discovered it recently you're the lucky ones who avoided the catastrophe of two years ago. The game is hopefully still exciting and new and when standalone comes out it will be glorious. For us old guard... its just been one hell of a ride of hopes dashed and game breaking bugs that we ignored in the hopes of a better finished product that will come out over a year too late. - Brick

    TEXT SYSTEM V.S. ICON SYSTEM

As a mater of fact... Actually we were not chatting most of the way but we were updating each other on what we were doing and finding as we tried to link up. Even so there are times when running around solo, even on things like Epoch where I ditch the vehicles and tons of gear and just move around the map on foot because I tend to skip past things while driving and I tend to have fun just moving up on an area and interacting with it. In SA I am really enjoying that I can hit even the little 3-4 house clusters and find plenty of items in them in between the larger cities. I think some people are just setting a waypoint on a compass and running straight to a location instead of looking around.
  11. The following is a write up from one of our FactionZ players; Gnashes. FactionZ - A Player's Perspective Shaking, adrenaline, anticipation, and fear. That's what I felt my first night playing FactionZ; the first time in my life that a video game had actually made my hands shake and my heart race so much that I had to stop and talk several breaths to calm myself before continuing on my way. It's so different from your normal session of DayZ, and yet, I feel at home while playing it. FactionZ takes all of the fun of DayZ and adds several new twists and elements to it. Not only do you have a 100% guaranteed area to store vehicles, weapons, and supplies, but you also have multiple coordinated and well armed "factions" vying for control of areas of the map. And in a world where the resources are limited, and everyone wants what they don't have, those struggles for control often lead to intense, and deadly, firefights. FactionZ brings many new aspects into DayZ. It's 1/2 Survival/Horror, 1/2 Warfare. You might be looting an airfield with your faction, and suddenly be assaulted from the air, ground, and sea by a faction who had a scout in the area watching you. Or, you might be trying to leave Object A2 on Namalsk and fall victim to a patient sniper in the hills who's been waiting for that one opportune shot. FactionZ centers around PvP, but allows for a lot of PvE and loot gathering as well. FactionZ's Core Aspects - Safe Bases: Choose your location and place your base. It's the one place where the Admins allow for no rule bending, you don't enter another faction's safezone, nor do they enter yours. Stray too close and they have the right to fire upon you, while you can do nothing but run away. - Coordinated Tactics: Many factions are seasoned veterans of the game, and of FactionZ. Military tactics and guerrilla warfare are well known, and well utilized. Expect an attack from any angle, and be ready to adjust to changing situations mid-fight. You never know what can happen on the battlefield of a city, forest, or mountain range. - Looting: Looting and getting the gear back to base guarantees its safety. A good looter can make or break a faction. Even if you're not the best fighter, your team will still appreciate your contributions simply by gathering supplies and aiding the fight indirectly. - Vehicles: FactionZ allows for vehicles, but places some limitations. Most armed vehicles are disallowed, and the ones which are will be expensive and hard to obtain. Mobility is an advantage, and those who take the time to loot, or ambush their enemies and take their loot, will profit. However, a small faction can still hold their own with good comms, and accurate fire. - Loot Zombie: Our Admin spawns into the map with gear befitting a king. He'll give clues as to his location over Side chat, and Factions earn points for killing him. Not only that, but he also carries Mountain Dews, which are used for determining the winning faction each cycle. So killing Loot Zombie is only half the challenge, because you won't be the only faction with your eye down the sights of a weapon... - Events: The Admin(s) host weekly events ranging from bicycle races around Chernarus, to "CQC Rumble" in an Admin built arena. Every event is fun, allows for factions who are behind in points to catch up, and gives everyone a little time to unwind and just shoot everything that moves in a huge Attack Chopper infested FFA match occasionally. - Community: If you're looking for a good group of guys and gals to fall in with, VA's crowd are hard to beat. I've only been around for a few months, but they've welcomed me with open arms and have made me feel at home. Sure, we shoot each other to ribbons, steal each other's vehicles and loot, and have a plan to kill each and every person we meet in-game, but we're all friends and play together on other server. I've made more lasting friends in this community than in any other. Additionally, we're now moving over to Epoch for our server. So all of the fun things Epoch adds will be incorporated into FactionZ in the coming weeks. Look for more balanced traders, extra items, and maybe even a few surprises thrown into the mix! I've never had more fun playing on a DayZ server than I have with FactionZ and the VA community. The fights are exciting, the events are fun, and the community does a good job of keeping the game fun to play. I'd recommend anyone coming over and trying it for a week or two. If you'd like to see a little more on-the-fly strategy thrown into your DayZ, FactionZ is definitely the place for you. Come on over, I promise to kill you nicely. -Gnashes Important Information to Know - While playing FactionZ you are required to be on the 'FactionZ' Mumble server. - FactionZ requires you to sign up on a forum and request access. - There are server rules to follow that shape the game play, and design, of FactionZ. - FactionZ goes through 'Cycles' every month where the map is changed/reset and everyone starts fresh and declares a 'Faction Winner' of the Cycle. - Every day (roughly) are Loot Zombie events that are unique, fun, and hilarious. Along with weekend events for Faction Vs. Faction warfare. - Factions start at a max of 6 players to a Faction. Factions can grow overtime and increase their max slots by continuing to play more Cycles. - FactionZ 1.0 ran for roughly 1 year and then we went on break. We're back in Epoch now, as FactionZ 2.0, and hope you'll be apart of another memorable year. 12. I didn't like it at first but once you work out the changes it is much better. It does feel like a bit of a side step in a way though, where they've just replaced one clunky system for another, I guess this is just all early base work for something more polished though. When I first started playing I was like "I hate this", now I've been playing non stop since release, I'm loving it. The UI takes the most time to get used to, it works better than the original UI but it is rather clunky and broken atm. There is a lot of dragging stuff to your hands and back and wondering why you cannot refill bottles (they have to be in your hand) and wondering why stuff is staying on your action bar even though you dropped it. All this stuff works, it's just not automatic like it would be in other games, for me now I like it as it means it takes time to manage your inventory, which really leaves you open to risk when looting like the original inventory UI. I noticed lots of people complaining about being unconscious randomly, this obviously isn't random. People are used to running forever without eating or drinking, having gotten used to it, when you see a message saying you need to eat or drink, always do it right away, never ignore it. You can also have one can of drink or a banana and it doesn't instantly fill you up like the mod, you have to keep eating and drinking until green writing pops up saying you're ok. This isn't ideal, but collapsing unconscious isn't random, you just have to get used to this system until they come up with something better... though I kinda like not having a boring UI bar you have to keep topping up. I think the best system would be what breaking point does where you hear your stomach rumble or you're out of breathe which indicates needing food or water. There are a few things which are broken though... - Zombies do not roam - melee is just horrible, even worse than before - zombies/loot doesn't respawn. I think personally these are the things that need the most attention. I also do not like how you can right click to aim, but it makes you walk instead of run, you can also press space to do chance stance between running and walking and you can press c (I think) to switch your pace too. This is too many buttons and at first I was always wondering why I wasn't running any more and clicking through all the buttons. I'm used to it now and have worked it out, however for the average joe, they'll get frustrated, say the game is shit and quit. I cannot blame them as the controls are still very clunky, even for an alpha, they do not need to work this way. Walking through buildings is a lot smoother, you wont be getting stuck on door frames any more, however you'll probably get stuck trying to go up stairs a few times. I tried to press space for jump (which tbh it should be) but it's V, only v has two purposes and sometimes it vaults you and sometimes it jumps... it's a bit weird and I can never tell which one my character will choose. Vicinity is a bit broken too, you can be looking right at something and it just wont appear. Pressing F as an action button, in itself is ok, I just find it a bit annoying though as a lot of the time the icon will not show when trying to climb up a ladder or open a gate. This happened in Dayz Mod too, however in that I just used the mouse wheel and it would find the option I need, In the SA since it changed to the F key, all mouse wheel tends to do is want to change my weapon or ammo instead. The new items are amazing, the lighting is amazing, sadly night time still sucks, basically you have to gamma everything up because you know everyone else has done that and you cannot be at a disadvantage..... this ruins the game at night time. The servers also seem to be all set to the same time zone, which is annoying as night time is rather unplayable due to the gamma exploit.... Overall it is really good, it does need vehicles though, but Dean said they're coming, I just hope people cannot hog them all and hide them in corners of the map again like the mod. I'm enjoying it more than the mod though which is good, it just takes time to get used to it. For me the biggest things that need fixing straight away are the 3 things I listed... No respawns, horrible melee and zombie A.I. What I really love is no one is shooting on sight any more which is great. I'm sure this is due to the game being new and people just getting used to it, however I really hope it stays this way as it reminds me of what Dayz used to be, before it turned into a Death Match COD game.

    Weapons in the DayZ Alpha

I was wondering how many weapons and vehicles there are in the DayZ Alpha so far, I have found a rifle and the M4 but that seems to be it and I havent seen any vehicles yet.
  14. Zarniwoop

    Weapons in the DayZ Alpha

Weapons currently in the game are the Mosin, the M4, the bugged double barreled and the FNX45 pistol. Vehicles will be done properly and are therefore going to be done further down the line. Also use the search function, and/or do your research. :)
  15. A FEW THINGS Ok, there are a few things i want to say before you read this :3 I originally wrote the backstory as for my RP character in DayZRP, but i got blacklisted for not meeting the age requirement :( But, shit happens xD I got the idea to write a story when i was writing the backstory, as for some reason i enjoyed it... And i was also inspired by the story Past DayZ by dblxross (Great story, go check it out! http://tinyurl.com/PastDayZ If you want me to write more please comment as i WILL write if people want me to :) JACK'S BACKSTORY Born and raised in Finland, Jack is your usual nordic survivor. He is endurable, quite tough and a very good shot, he was one of the best snipers in the Finnish Army (land forces branch of the Finnish Defence Forces). Jack was born on the second day of September in 1990, and was name after his grandfather. He had a normal childhood, except that he learned English at a very young age for a Finn from TV, movies and videogames. When he started school at the age of seven, he was quite a lot ahead of other students as he was very good at maths and such. At the age of 16 when he finished his comprehensive school he started studying in a career school to be a police, and he finished his studies at the age of 18, but didn't yet start on the job, he had to go to the army first. In the army he did well, because he was in good shape, the rough training wasn't much of a challenge to him, so he decided to stay in the army for 2 more years as a non-commissioned officer. Once he returned to his ordinary every day life, he wanted a vacation of everything, so he decided to go on a travel across the globe. He went to Britain, America and various other countries and met new friends there. When the infection hit, he was hunting in Russia, on the island of Taviana with some friends of his. They had been hunting for 2 days and they were going to leave after sleeping over the night but somehow a few of the zombies found them and attacked their camp. Unaware about the zombie apocalypse, they had no idea what was going on, and well, that didn't turn out too well... Jack got away from the zombies but his friends were killed. He was extremely angry at himself for letting his friends die, but at the same time horrified about an zombie apocalypse... He tried to call home, but nobody would answer, and he decided to head home no matter what. But without any kind of a vehicle, he was trapped in a wasteland full of zombies and bandits, so he had to abandon any hopes of getting back home... After that he has been surviving in the wasteland for a long time, in the hopes of a new start... CHAPTER 1 - LOW ON SUPPLIES 1, 2, 3... 4 slugs, 1 loaded in the rifle, 3 in my pockets. 2 cans of food, 1 water bottle, 1 can of Coca Cola... I carefully count my ammo, supplies and equipment. "Damn it, i won't last long with these, i need to go out there and get some supplies..." I carefully take a look out of the windom in the barn, but i can't see anything as it is almost midnight. I haven't gone out in a while, not since my friends were killed... That day i ran for my life, i didn't help my friends, i was in a complete shock when i realised what i had done... I grabbed everything i found on the way, not caring about anything else than survival, MY survival! I squeeze my fist as hard as i can, i have to stop thinking about it, i have to let go! See, one thing i have learned about survival in this world gone to hell, the past is not a thing you should care about, otherwise you will become insane... Once i saw a few bandits outside of the barn, they executed one of their so called "comrades"... They just emptied their clips into the poor guy, luckily for me they ran away after that because of all the zombies that came because of the noise... I think i have been in this barn for 9 days now, and i have been trying to keep my thirst and hunger under control, but i have used my supplies up way too fast... I clear my mind and decide to get some sleep and go salvage everything from the town not too far away, i do not have a map so i cannot pinpoint my position, which makes moving around a lot harder... I have not seen any vehicles either, they are most likely in the custody of bandits... My eyes start to feel heavy, and i fall asleep... When i wake up the sun is already up high, i take a sip of water and eat what little is left of the can i opened yesterday morning... I grab my Winchester and my backpack, and slowly open the doors of the barn to check for any zombies. None of them are in sight, so i start moving fast in a crouched position and make my way to a small town. "1, 2, 3, 4, atleast 7 zombies roaming around, damn it, i'll have to be very quiet and sneaky..." I go prone and crawl my way to the nearest house that i can get into. I find a few empty cans of beans and soda, but nothing of use, so i move to the next house i can see... The door opens with ease, and no zombies are in sight so i get in, and walk slowly towards the kitchen, still crouched. I start opening the cabinets and i find a few cans of food and a bottle of water. "Thank you thank you thank you" I have no idea who i'm talking to, but i am so happy that i don't even care! I don't find anything else of use, so i start moving to the next house. I quickly come to a spot where the road splits into two directions, to the right, leading to a station of some kind and to the left, leading to more houses. I'm thinking of going to the station, but suddenly i hear a gunshot from the left. As an reaction i instantly drop to the ground, roll to a bush on the side of the road, and ready my rifle. All i can think about is survival, it could be anyone... [end of chapter 1] CHAPTER 2 - DANGER AHEAD I hold my position for a while, i don't move at all, concentrating on the road. I hear 3 more gunshots, then screams, sound of some one being killed... I get up after atleast five minutes of nothing else but the grunts and noises of the undead, and move to the other side of the road. I start slowly crawling towards the sounds, and once i see the situation, i regret my actions instantly. There was a man lying on the ground, dead, torn into pieces. I let this happen. For the next few minutes i think of what could have happened if i would have helped this guy, this poor, poor guy... I mentally slap myself as i promised not to think like this anymore, and concentrate on what is happening in front of me. Once the zombies finished their "business" with him, and had wandered off i slowly moved at the body. I know that in this wasteland you take what you can, so i dragged the body off the road and searched it. I felt disgusted at myself, but i took what little this guy had with him: a map of the island, a compass, a roadflare and some matches... For some reason the gun he had used wasn't anywhere to be found, but at the time i didn't think about it. I left the body and started moving at the houses that i yet had not searched. I went in the first one i could, and grabbed what i could find, the same with the other four houses too. I was already starting to get back to the barn, but then i remembered the station! There could be lots of stuff in there! I made my way back to the station's gate and tried to open it, but it would not budge! Climbing over it was not an option as it was too hard to climb and too high to get over, so i could not get in... I was flustrated by this, so i decided to get back to the barn, but what i saw was pretty much a surprise... The barn was on fire, with bandits around it! It seemed like they were looking for something around the barn, most likely because they didn't find it in the barn... Were those bandits i saw before some kind of traitors? Or were they looking for me? I didn't have too much time to think, because i saw some zombies coming out of the forest, heading towards the barn... I knew that things were going to go to hell very soon, so i went prone and hid in the tall grass. Not too long and i heard a few people yelling and the sound of cars driving away, i realize that i reacted just in time... I had no place to go, way too much stuff with me and bandits and zombies all around me! I had to find a safe place to stay, but first i had to stop, make a plan and check the bag i got... I hid in a bush on the edge of the town and opened the bag. I was surprised to find 3 bandages, some painkillers, morphine, 2 roadflares and a silenced M9 pistol! Unfortunately the was no ammo with the pistol, but i still took it with me... Next i took the map and looked at it. "Fuck! I can't read Russian!" But even if i could not read it, i still could find my location in the map if i knew the towns name, so i started looking around for a roadsign, and i soon found it... I was in a small town called Kryvoe, but the map didn't help with the plan as it didn't show much details... I had no choice but to start following the road until i find another hideout, and that is going to be one dangerous journey... [end of chapter 2] CHAPTER 3 - A SAFE PLACE TO BE After about three hours of walking on the side of the road i was getting tired. I had passed a few towns because they seemed to be dangerous, full of zombies but i hadn't seen any shacks or barns or any kind of safe places... I stopped for a while to take a sip of water but i was cut short when i heard a loud explosion from the field on the other side of the forest. I didn't react like i usually would as i started running deeper into the forest, away from the sound. Somebody was apparently having some fun with explosives as i heard atleast 3 more explosions, but they were more and more distant every time... My ears were still ringing from before while i was running, so i didn't pay too much attention on anything else than getting away. I tripped on a tree branch, but luckily the ground was soft and i didn't get hurt and kept going. When i was completely out of breath and my legs hurt from all that running, i collapsed to the ground. I had to stop for a while to catch my breath, but i was still worried that someone was after me, and when i looked behind me, i was relieved because nobody was in sight. I slowly got up and started looking around... I didn't see much anything, so i decided to get to a higher position as it would be much easier to find a hideout from there... After a little bit of searching i found a hill that provided me a good vantage point. I started carefully scanning my surroundings, and the first thing that caught my attention was a quite large farm in the west. I decided to go check the farm out as i could find supplies and maybe even find a safe place to live in for a while... It was not a long trip, about 850 meters, and i was already on the edge of the forest. I could easily see the farm from there, but i wasn't going to rush to it before i knew it was safe! I started going around the house to check for dangers, but the only thing i found was a small pick-up truck that was obviously broken... It looked safe, but the house was too easily visible in the open, so i would have to find another place to stay at... Then i noticed a small shed on the edge of the forest, pretty much hidden but still visible! That would be almost perfect for a hideout, so i got really pumped about it, and i ran to it to check its condition. It was a basic wooden shed with metal sheets all over it, and it was in good condition, it looked almost untouched! I opened the door and stepped in, it was small, but large enough to fit me, my stuff and the various tools inside of it, and it was pretty clean on the inside too! It was basically a wooden box with metal sheets on it, but it was a good, safe place to be! But before i could make any decision i would need to search the house, as it could be full of zombies or bandits! I stepped out and readied my rifle, thinking about the possible dangers inside got me on my toes... I slowly went in through the basement, and was surprised to find out that the basement was not completely looted and still had stored food and such in it! I took what i could with me, as i could really use food and water... I found 4 cans of beans, 3 bottles of water and a cardboard box with a blood pack and a package of painkillers in it, but everything else was useless. My backpack was almost full, but i was able to fit the supplies in it. I opened the door to the first floor, and what was waiting for me was a huge mess; broken windows, broken furniture... "Jesus, looks like someone really left in a hurry..." I looked out of the window, it was getting darker, i had to be a little faster... I didn't find anything of use in the first floor so i got up to the second floor, just to find an even bigger mess! I searched the floor quickly, and found nothing of interest... I got out of the house, and went to the truck. I opened the drivers door, but the truck was empty, but the radio had been taken out of its place, and it looked like someone would have tried to take it with them... I tried to pull it out but its wires were still attached, so i had to somehow get them out in one piece if i wanted to get the radio working... The radio also seemed to have a microphone, but it was attached to the radio... One of the wires went to the roof, to an antenna, and luckily it could be easily twisted out, one down, one to go! The other one had to be attached to the car's battery so i opened the hood and took the battery out along with the wire that was used to power the radio, i took the radio, its battery and the antenna in my arms, if i would get this to work i might be able to get off this damned island! The car's bed was covered with a large camouflage cover. I got an idea to take the cover and put it on the shed for extra safety. When i got back to my new hideout it was already very dark, so i took some strong branches and set the cover up as quickly as possible. I got in the shed and dropped my stuff on the floor. I was tired from all the running and decided to get a good sleep. Using my backpack as a pillow and my rifle next to me i take a good position on the floor. When i closed my eyes i fell asleep almost instantly, not even thinking what is ahead of me tomorrow... [end of chapter 3] CHAPTER 4 - FRIENDLIES!? I got up full of energy, almost eager to start scavenging and traveling. I had the feeling you have when the day is going to be a good one, so of course i was pumped! The first thing i did was counting my supplies. I hadn't shot with my rifle at all, so i still had the ammo i had before. I opened my backpack and took out all of the stuff in it; six cans of food, four full water bottles, a can of cola, some matches, a blood pack, some painkillers and morphine. Suddenly i felt how empty my stomach was. When you don't think about food you often don't even realize how hungry you are. I open a can of food and eat it in under a minute. Then i open the can of cola and slowly empty its contents. I sigh of relief when i feel my stomach settling down. "That hit the spot..." Then i remember the radio. I set it up as fast as i can in the hopes of finding help, people that could take me with them - not in a bodybag. I know that there are many groups of survivors out there, as i have seen them... I hook the radio onto the battery and turn it on, but surprise surprise, of course it doesn't work! I curse as loud as i can, and with my hopes crushed again i feel so pissed that i could tear someone apart. Three minutes ago i was going to happily go scavenging, but now i just feel bad. But i knew i had to go... I pack everything i have into my backpack, grab my rifle and get out, ready for anything. I step out of the shed and carefully look around me. I can't see nor hear any danger, so i walk out of the woods to the open. But that might have been a mistake. I heard a loud scream from the other side of the house. It was obviously a woman, so i rushed at the sound, my rifle readied. The next thing i heard was a gunshot. I took cover behind the truck next to the house, assuming that the shot was at me. "Ok now... Get up, aim, fire..." I got up and took aim at the direction of the shot. But what i saw made my jaw drop... Two people, a man and a woman were desperately trying to get away from a zombie with a orange coat. The zombie was covered with blood and full of bullets, but it was still moving. The man and woman were trying to get away, but the woman seemed to be injured, so they could not stand a chance. Bandits or not this is not how anyone should end up. I took aim at the zombies head and pulled the trigger. It was clearly a straight hit, and the zombie dropped on the ground. The man and woman stopped the moment they heard the shot and started looking around. Suddenly the zombie got back up, and started running at me. 'Think fast'... that is what i did, i flipped my gun over and hit the zombie in the face with the stock, knocking it out. Then i reloaded and shot it in the face... Twice. It was dead for sure this time. The man and woman didn't look like bandits, so i approached them slowly. The man had a pistol in his right hand. "Drop the gun" i said, in a commanding tone. "What?" the man asked. They were just standing there, staring at me. "Drop it" i said again. "No!" the man seemed afraid. "Are you bandits?" i ask, as this was a thing that i was worried about! ... The man didn't answer. "Are you!?" i asked, i was getting pretty pissed. I grasped my gun harder. "No, we're not!" the man was obviously afraid. "Good, then drop the gun." I was happy to find survivors like me, but nowadays you can't really treat any one like a friend... "Ok.. But don't hurt us..." "Don't worry, i'm not like that." i said, relieved about not having to use force. I walked towards them, with my rifle lowered onto my hip. "Are you hurt?" i asked. "I'm not, but Lucy has been shot..." i was kind of surprised to hear an english name. "Ok, so she is Lucy... What is your..." The man took his pistol and aimed at me, and i reacted by rolling to the right. A bullet went flying past my head, but didn't hit. The man took aim at me again, but this time i already had my rifle on his head. "Well, shit... Looks like we are stuck..." [end of chapter 4] CHAPTER 5 - TROUBLE "Well, let's see who breaks first..." i say, trying to be as intimitating as possible. "S.. Stop it!" The woman... or Lucy is trying to stand up and is yelling at us to stop. "Stop this now! You're just making it worse for all of us!" Lucy is desperately trying to make us stop. "Fuck!" the man curses, lowering his weapon. The man drops his pistol and walks to Lucy. "Good. Now who are you and what are you doing here?" i ask. For a moment there is just an awkward silence between us... "We're just looking for food and meds, don't kill us..." "I already said that i'm not like that... But why would you be here in the open? There are zombies and bandits around!" "We need meds for her, she was shot..." "By who?" i ask. "We found a camp after our car broke down. The people at the camp seemed friendly at first, but they tried to rob us when were sleeping. We somehow managed to fight them off, but Lucy was shot when we tried to run. I did grab this gun from one of the guys..." "So you ran from the camp and ended up here..." i feel bad for these people. "Yes, we desperately need help!" Lucy says. "I have some meds, let me look at that wound..." "Really? And you would help us!?" the man asks. "Of course! You two are the first friendly people i have seen in ages!" i reply. "Great! Thank you!" "Ok, now just lay on your back and let me look at that wound..." The gunshot wound had gone clean through, and even though it looked bad, it was just a minor wound. "I'm no doctor, but this isn't as bad as it looks... The bullet has gone clean through, so i think a little water, a bandage and some painkillers should have you up and going in no time!" I flash a friendly smile and proceed to take one of my water bottles out. "This might sting a little..." I pour some water onto the wound, and Lucy lets out a small yelp. Then i take the only bandage i have and wrap it around the wound. "That should do it, now just take this painkiller and you should feel a lot better!" I hand over a pill and the water bottle, and she happily takes the pill. I take my water bottle and put it in my backpack. The man helps Lucy up. "Thank you, i can stand up better now." Lucy says, thankfully. "No problem!" i say, feeling good about helping her. "What can we do to thank you?" The man asks. "Well i never got your name..." i say in an asking tone. "Oh, right, sorry for the earlier, you just can't trust anyone these days... My name is Matt! Nice to meet you!" "It's ok, i understand... But to be honest Matt, you scared me shitless!" "Hehe, well..." "Wait what is that sound?" Lucy asks. "Is that..?" "Oh shit, i think thats a car! To the forest, quick!" i command. We run to the forest as fast as possible, and the sound keeps getting louder and louder. "Get down, we don't want any bandits to find us!" "Are you sure they are bandits?" Matt asks. "Who else could it be? It must be a group of bandits, they are everywhere!" The car comes visible from the other side of the hill. It's a military jeep with 4 people in it with rifles and bulletproof vests. "What the... These don't look like bandits..." "Maybe they are part of a faction or something?" Matt asks. "I don't know, lets find out!" i say, with a strange urge. For some reason i want to find out who they are, maybe they have a camp or something that could help us survive! I hand Matt his pistol back, and tell him and Jane to run if something bad happens to me. "What the hell mate?" Matt asks. "I need to do this, they might be friendlies!" I don't know why i would even do this, but i get up and start walking towards the men, with my rifle lowered to my waist. As i walk towards them i get a little nervous. One of them notices me coming up the hill and yells somethig to his friends. They all take aim at me. "Woah! I'm friendly, don't shoot!" A guy with a strong Russian accent is the first to reply. "Don't move or you die!" "Ok ok! Just don't shoot ok?" i say, trying to calm the men down. "Who are you!?" the russian man asks. "I'm just someone who tries to survive, i'm not a bandit or anything!" The men talk for a while and then respond: "Ok, come up here, but no sudden moves!" "And keep that gun down!" one of them adds. I start walking up the hill slowly, my weapon on my waist. When i am about 10 meters away from them i stop and ask: "Who are you?" i ask. "You don't need to know that!" one of the men says, this time with a more german accent. "Ok... But why not?" Suddenly the fourth man yells at me: "Shut up and give us your stuff!" "No! I need these, and besides i'm friendly!" i say, shocked about the sudden hostility. "Then hand over your stuff!" "No!" "Fine! We will just rip them off of you!" The man takes a shot at me, but i barely manage to dodge it, and take cover behind their truck. "Shit! This is bad, i need to take these guys out!" I roll into the open from the truck's back, and shoot one of the men twice. Once in the leg and once in his right hand. He drops his gun and screams in pain, i sprint to him and lift him up as a meat shield. The guy isn't very heavy, but not light either. "This must be the dumbest idea ever!" i think to myself. I grab the guys AK and driven by adrenaline i drop the first two guys i see with clean headshots. The third guy is on the right side of the truck, so i move onto the front and aim at him. "You fucker! You killed my comrades!" "And you're next!" i yell, with a mad tone in my voice. We're aiming at each other, ready to fire. I have a shield, he does not. For a moment everything seems to stop. Then... BANG! [end of chapter 5] CHAPTER 6 -NEW HOPE, NEW PLAN The russian man drops to the ground, lifeless. We fired our weapons at the same time, but he didn't hit me. But my meat shield, the person i'm holding as protection, has gone limp, and is bleeding a lot. I let go of him, and he falls on his back. He coughs some blood out, and dies. Seems like he got in in his chest by the russian guy... "Unlucky, he didn't have to die.." i thought. I heard footsteps behind me, it was Jane and Matt. "Oh jesus!" Matt was clearly not aroused of the sight. "This is the way the world is now, deal with it or die..." i don't know why i said this, it could be because i was angry or something... "Who were they?" Lucy asked, obviously grossed too. "I'll check them for ID:s" i said. They all had the basic medical equipment, a bandage, some painkillers, antibiotics and morphine. I took them and stuffed all of it to my backpack. The russian guy had a drivers licence with him, and i picked it up to take a look. "This guy was 27 years old, russian and his name was Berto Kowalski. Classy." "No tags or anything? They were in soldier uniforms..." Matt asked. "Nope, could they be refugees or something? I mean... I think they could have been kicked out of a bandit group for stealing stuff..?" "I don't know, and i don't think we should even care, as they attacked you!" Matt said. "What's in the jeep?" Lucy asked out of the blue. "Hmm, there could be something useful..." I walk up to the back of the truck and look to the bed. As a big surprise, there was a crate of explosives, most likely enough to blow a town up! "Holy shit, come take a look at this!" i shout. Lucy and Matt rush to take a look. "Woah! Are you nuts? What if those things go boom?" Matt asks, clearly worried. "They won't!" i say. "Are you completely sure?" Lucy asks. "Yes, i have experience on explosives, these will only blow up when triggered using a remote detonator." "Oh, good! Then we should be safe right?" Matt asks. "I think so!" i say. "Wait... Does the car run?" i ask from myself. I leap to the front, open the door and get in. The car seems to be completely fine, so i try to start it. It takes a moment, but the car starts up and runs beautifully. "Well, where shall we go?" i ask. I flash a smile at Matt and Lucy. "I heard about some places from the guys that tried to rob us before, there are supposed to be communities out there!" Matt says. "I heard it too! They talked about some place called Haven..." Jane adds. "Hmm, first we should find out where we are..." It takes a while, but we are finally able to pinpoint our location on the map. "So, any ideas where these communities could be?" i ask, actually hoping for a location. "We drove past a city, it had gone to hell..." Jane said with a sad tone in her voice. "Let's get to a road before we choose anything!" Matt obviously just wanted to get out of there. "Ok, hop in!" i say, completely ready to go. "You are driving?" Matt asks. "You can drive if you want to." i told Matt. "No problem, i bet i'm a better driver than you anyways!" Matt says with a smirk on his face. I get out of the truck, give Matt the map and he gets to the drivers seat. Lucy hops onto the passenger seat and i sit onto the jeeps bed. Once we have been moving for a while i start thinking about a plan for the future. "I might need to use these explosives, so i'll take a look at them..." [end of chapter 6] CHAPTER 7 - CREPITUS: THE GRAND FINALE I open the crate and take a look inside. It is packed with C-4 charges. "These could be useful..." I close the crate and set it carefully to the left corner of the trucks bed. Then i lay on my back and close my eyes to think on a plan. "I need to think of everything..." Some time later i've thought of almost every possible situation. I considered it necessary to plan ahead because before things had gone bad really fast. "Uhh.. Jack?" "Yeah?" "Which do you want to hear first, the bad news or the really bad ones?" I am a little surprised about Matt's question as everything seemed to be going well. "What's wrong?" i ask. "Well, it's getting dark... It is going to be harder to drive without lights, and if the lights are on, we will be an easy target for anyone..." "Hmm... We need to act fast. What are the really bad news?" i ask. "Well, it kind of fixes the first problem... We are running out of gas." Matt said. "Oh shit, in that case we need to stop." "But where? We can't just stay on the road..." Lucy says. "Let's drive into the forest, we can get some cover for a camp there." i say, as i had planned for this to happen too. Matt pulls to the woods and drives deeper and deeper in. When we have driven for a good 15 minutes i tell Matt to stop. "We should be far from the road now, let's stop and setup a camp." Matt stops the car and he and Lucy get out. Meanwhile i open the C-4 crate and get one of the detonators. I get out of the car and check out the surroundings. "We should be safe here. Let's find some branches and stuff to make a campfire." i say. Once we have made a campfire i tell Lucy and Matt to get some rest. "What about you?" Lucy asks. "I'll be on guard." "Ok, be sure to wake us up if something happens." Matt says, already half asleep. Some time passes, and everything goes well until i hear something coming our way. "Engines, oh fuck!" The sounds keep getting louder and louder, so i wake Matt and Lucy. "There is someone coming, grab my backpack and run!" Matt and Lucy take the backpack and run deeper into the forest without saying anything. "I have a feeling this will not end well." The cars quickly stop right next to our camp, and two people get out. "Who are you?" i ask. "We are from the same group this truck of yours used to belong to, we are looking for two captives that escaped from us and shot one of our men." "So you are not looking for some one who killed four of your groups men?" "We don't know about anything like that, this truck was stolen from us." "We only want to know about the captives." the other man said "One of our men spotted you with them, you will either tell us where they went peacefully, or we can use force too." "I think i know who you are looking for, but they are long gone." i say with a smirk on my face. "Don't fuck with us!" the other guy kicks me in the jaw, damn that hurt. "We'll only say it one more time, we are looking for two captives that escaped from us and shot one of our men. You tell us where they went and you can live to see a new day." "Fuck... you.." The only thing they realized was that i put my right hand into my pocket. On the split second i pressed on the detonator i thought: Going out with a bang, never expected that to happen. I just can't do it.

The only reason I'm hesitant is the minimal zombies, and lack of vehicles, but most of all I don't want to buy it and then only three months down the road hackers start popping up again. That is a 100% Deal Breaker if people start teleporting around and spawning things in. It's just not gonna work. Thunder Domes all over again. I shudder at the thought.

Things you want to see in SA updates first.

    1) Unconcious bug fix (Might as well throw it in there) 2) Loot spawns (Been checking apartments and such and barely finding anything) 3) Zombie Spawns (Run through a main city, you won't get any aggro) 4) Status Indicators (We need moodlets for this. Its a medicore idea to have text feedback. If we get moodlets back, don't let them look like they were drawn by a 5 year old.) 5) Ladder Holstering (When holding a weapon and getting on a ladder, it moves whatever your holding out of your hands...I dont think I should have to re-dig it out of my inventory every time.) 6) Sun (I realize the sun is a gargantuan mass of gas being constantly burned through nuclear fission, but I don't think it needs to be that bright.) 7) Zombie AI (It looks like it has been massively improved, but I think they should run?) 8) Vehicles (I've heard rumors they don't plan to re-add vehicles. Please don't let this be true. Repairing things and hunting for the parts was one of my favorite things to do in the mod) 9) Spelling errors (Holding your mouse over respawn and you'll see a text box with obvious grammatical errors) 10) Infinite Pants (Taking clothing off a body can result in taking it off, but the clothes remaining, resulting in an infinite pants glitch.)

Things you want to see in SA updates first.

Status indicators. Screw vehicles for now. They make the game smaller and they are but essential.
  19. Skat3rat

    Are their cars?

Like Narko said, there isn't, and there won't be for a while. They are completely redesigning vehicles.
  20. Batlan

    Are their cars?

Was wondering about this myself also. Apparently there are no vehicles or means to repair them in alpha as of yet, but someone do correct me if wrong.
  21. weparo

    Who loves the new SA??

Nah, it sucks. Mod was the same. It's so buggy and no vehicles. Also it has bad fps. #yoloswag Just kidding ;) It's the best alpha of anything ever :D

My first impressions - DayZ Mod Vet

Probably because weapons are pretty scarce right now. This behavior will surface once weapons and vehicles become more prevalent. Its always eaiser to steal than it is to earn :)

    A suggestion about the vehicles

Vehicles will probably be 2-3 months down the line.
  24. I don't like the tone this guy has taken, however, unfortunately to some extent I agree. Interaction with the environment is still as clunky as ever, I want more key bindings so that I press 'L' and my torch turns on rather than scroll, select click. I got a lucky spawn in Novy and new exactly where I was, this disappoints me. I would've enjoyed a new map, after-all they've had over a year to make one while the other aspects were changed. Adding in new sections is nice, but I have already played this landscape for 1.5 years. I struggle to understand what has be the hold up creating other guns, items and vehicles when the apparent hold up has been the network connection. Surely they have a team of modellers for designing in game items whilst their network team sort out their own problems. Being knocked without a timer seems a questionable one to be honest.

Thoughts so far on Dayz Standalone

They did because DayZ was/is meant to be the "anti-game" its not supposed to be easy, you're not supposed to be able to "win" alone. What private hives did was change the atmosphere of the mod attracting tons of "cod" kids who now think Dayz is supposed to be a slightly more realistic fps with zombies and some survial stuff added to it. Sitting on the hills over elektro/berzino or one of the highrises in cherno and sniping new spawns with 50 cals etc is not what dayz was supposed to be but thats what the private hives became with the 100000 vehicles, self blood bags etc etc
