From what I learned while following the development Day Z Standalone was built off of the Take On Helicopters engine, and from what I've heard Dean isn't the most experienced modder working with a relatively small team on limited resources. Why is it that all the naysayers seem baffled that their aren't more features in a year when they've had to essentially rebuild the entire game on an engine designed for a helicopter simulator? Frankly for me, the game looks much better, plays much smoother, and generally feels more immersive than the mod. Really, if they just fix the broken melee system and zombie spawning (zombies already better than the mod in my opinion,) as well as integrate vehicles and the new weapons, I can't see any way it isn't an improvement. I'm just curious, is there anyone here with coding experience who knows the ins and out of accomplishing what the DayZ team has done?

Hello fellow survivors, feared (or was it hate??) bandits, admired heros out there my impressions of the standalone so far: ok the first days i played the game there was only night... some are comlaining about that and i can understand but for me i feel saver in the shadows of the dark. Also i`m pretty sure that there will be a way to alter the server time later. So first spawned in and i found myself inland, checking the surroundings i figured out it was Novy. Cool. so first thing to do heading west checking the military tents over in Stary. But there are no tents anymore?! maybe they are rotten, don`t know how many years i already wandered around in this apocalyptic wasteland so this eventually had to happen no matter what. ok so i went towards downtown of Stary to check the supermarket for food and other nice stuff. i arrived at the market about 30mins later and already fully packed. so many houses that want to be searched just beautiful. at the pigpen i found a shovel and at the front of the market there was a zombie waiting for a good beating. i smashed the shovel on his head and the Zed went down."yeah bitch take this" i thought and then "what the fuck?!?" when the Zed got up again. took me a lot more hits until he finally stayed on the ground, great experience!! also i love the new medical system. back at the mod me and a friend had a great time searching for antibiotics as he was infected. now with different blood types and all the other stuff you really have to work for your survival. what i think is great with this system is that it encourages ppl to play togehter and makes it harder for all the lone wolf sniper/killers. at least the bandits have to trust other bandits in order to get sufficent medical treatment. its not much, but at least a start as bandits have no drawbacks atm for being a bandit. maybe some of this mislead bandit souls will change sides after being killed by another bandit they offered help all the new lootable stuff is great, found milk powder and cornflakes...will be a great breakfast i think :) can opener is great, loosing some food when using alternative ways to open a can? also great (does it depend on the state of the tool (damaged/worn/pristine) how much is wasted?) now it takes some clicks and more time as in the mod to eat and drink...again, i like it, `cause i don`t plunge my head in my backpack in order to eat...no, i put it in my hand before eating, wired, but it works for me... Don`t like the multi-storey building´s anymore...to much work for to less loot...but thats cool :D its no kindergarden out there, its the apocalypse!! as said by someone in another thread there are to many Barracks atm. Ok there will be different weapons later but still many big guns to find. So you could A.) lower the amount of loot in the Barracks or B.) remove some Barracks. A possible way to provide (military-grade) weapons for the survivors could be to random spawn military convoys on the streets around Chernarus. For example: locals assembled a troop/convoy to hunt down zed`s (surely the outcome was bad) ---> hunting rifles/shotguns civil grade loot Police Roadblocks overrun by hordes of zed´s ---> low military grade weapons and equipment Military Convoy on the main roads ---> normal grade mil weapons and equipment + opportunity to scavenge engine parts or stuff Small Convoiys on side streets ---> even better items can be found but as the small convoiy may consist only of 2 vehicles which seperated from the main convoy it will be hard to find in the woods of chernarus supply boxes which where dropped prior to the chrash of a helicopter, so can be found in an radius of lets say some hundred meters around the actual chrashside as the crew tried to lower the weight in order to stay in the air. obviously with no success for them but that´s life isn`t it? about bugs, until now i didn`t found bugs which where not already reported, and the reported bugs i experienced are not fatal sure lost some stuff because of full inventory or because it was lying under a limb of a tree, but hey cmon at least there is more free space in my backpack again so i can scavenge more stuff...most likley more important stuff Will we be able to distill alcohol from rotten fuits? :D ok that`s for now and thanks for your attention :) cya in cherno! Pepe and always remember: War without fire is as boring as a sausage without mustard (Heinrich V.)

i remember they once said that they want to completely re-program the vehicles, not just import them from arma, so you can also modify and customize them :) really looking forwad to this !

It's an evolution. What you play now, the expirence you are getting right now Will be gone by tomorrow. New mechanics will be added that will dynamically change the game-play, and as you get used to it, others will as well. You will remember these days of early alpha and tell it to your game childs. "Back in the day, if you went unconscious, you were screwed" and "There were tons of phsyco killers running around, since that's all they could do.. there were no vehicles!" Obviously a bunch of other things as well. In my opinion with computer games, the fully released, polished games, last me a good 4-5 months until i put them down for good, with a slight chance i may temporarily return for a "fix". However, this alpha is a rare, special case. Thanks to its sandbox nature which is "Rare as hell in MMO's". Replay-ability, and a skillful learning curves, this alpha is argued by some to play as if its a fully released game. If it were an EA game, this would be the complete package. Over the course of the next 2 years, things are going to change, we will get thousands of new things to tinker with with, including new mechanics. For now however, let us bask in this prehistoric land of DAYZ. We are making history. Game of the decade?

Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
algorim replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Shut up, already. Bugs: Of course there are bugs. Amount of Weapons: This is no fuckin big deal. There will come a lot of them. There is no point in implementing them, since the engine is/was the focus for the last year. Vehicles: They are coming. And I believe they will be much better than in the mod. Look at the attachment system in comparison. If they keep this level of detail up, it will be great. Map: The map has been improved by exactly the way people were asking for. I don't like chernarus either, but there is no barrier to implement another map. ITS ALPHA. If the devs fix these issues, the 25€ are well spend. I'm feeling pretty comfortable about what I expect to come. Apart from the unresponsive UI and animation, there is no point worth of complaining right now, since all the things you mentioned are CLEARLY alpha related. As for the cashing in on an unfinished game. Did you read the conversation the last year? Rocket mentioned an alpha too early and since then EVERYBODY has gone insane about being able to play the alpha. And this is what you get. Be happy to have a little taste about the SA. Just to give you a little hint, what is going to happen the next 2-3 months: There will be no big new features in the game. Guns will get implemented and bugs are getting fixed. And MAYBE some litte feature improvement, like using that item for that. This is what development is like. It is SLOW. So lower your expectations accordingly and stop wasting everybodys time with your uninformed bullshit. (uninformed bullshit is even worse than bullshit, because its sad, instead of annoying) Be happy about supporting a companies great afford to put a first fully functional zombie survival horror mmo out there. -
Welcome to! Our server is fresh with Epoch on Chernarus, has many nice features with more coming soon! We got our Epoch Chernarus servers now set up with people constantly coming it, we're already starting to grow! Server website: HeisenbergsHideout.com Server #1 IP: 66.150.155.179:2302 Server #2 IP: 66.150.121.238:2302 TS: ts3.heisenbergshideout.com Server Features: Custom anti-hacks 24/7 day (only on #1) Commit suicide Anti Death-log Custom take clothes option Spawn selection Self bloodbag/Consume blood-bag (Eat the BB, it gives you food and drink BUT had a high infection rate) Additional building (nothing too game breaking) Safezones w/ zombie shield, anti-theft and vehicle repair! Alternate Traders (Something different from he usual Epoch chernarus traders) M240's on all planes (To encourage more players to buy planes) Tow & Lift! All cargo, fuel trucks, both armed and unarmed vodniks can tow. Lifting is being fixed atm but when it is only Chinooks and MV-22's can lift other land vehicles! Edited base building (makes building bases faster and esier) Base build snapping (Snap your base building objects in place with other base building objects! Makes life easier for you when building ) Custom kill messages (Kill messages show up in a nice clean look at the top left side of your screen) A.I Missions Removed infection spawn (You won't have to deal with spawning as a zombie anymore!) There are also a couple features that we will be adding to the server and certain things that i want to get done. I will be listing these features here and crossing the things that have been added to the server! Coming soon! M240's on all planes or just on AN-2's Bridge to skalisty Additional buildings Added building materials and tools to the building vendor to allow new players to build more quickly Heisenbergs Hideout #2 Putting in more weapon cache boxes for a rare weapon, and a weapon cache for building materials Here will be the thing that we are still currently discussing between staff. Possibly changing the server to a gold currency only server, depending on how players like the idea. Animated helicopter crashes Possiility to have a rearm/refuel/repair station in a safezone. Must pay a certain amount of gold to use it. Added weapons/vehicles that are not in the loot spawns or traders to give a more unique feel to the server, nothing too OP. Possibly add vehicle ammo to traders but at a very expensive price (still thinking about the cons as one of them would be that players would only end up going for the traders instead having to do the usual, going to the barracks and having to interact with players) We are also coming up with a loading screen for the heisenberg server, the logo is done as you guys can see in-game on the debug monitor and when you first join the server and also at the top of the post Intro music has also been added to the server, you can hear this when you first join or rejoin the server. Were getting very close to giving the server its own unique feel! i started the dayz mod when it was in early alpha like this. it was horrible. i stayed. i got wasted so often, at some point i lost count. i stayed. i died a million times from blood loss with full military gear. i stayed. instead of running away i tried to get better. learn the map/geography. think about how and why i got killed. dayz is meant to cause frustration, rocket wanted it to be like this. you are meant to have fear. you are meant to be pushed. you are not supposed to find anything useful in the first house you enter. its a constant fight for your life, against the zeds and the clock. do i fight this zombie in the house and risk getting infected, to find some food that i need? can i engage this player who has a rifle, or do i try to communicate? this is early alpha. its not done. not for a long time. you can move you character, put on some gear that sometimes doesnt even have its descripton done, and use some basic stuff. you cannot expect it to work perfectly, and that has also been said/written on numerous occasions, in blogs, reviews, and the store page on steam. comparing it with epoch? please. epoch is the most casual, instant gratification newbiefriendly mod of all the mods out there. its no longer an apocalypse game, its a zombie pvp themepark. trading, gold currency, safe bases, buildings, gazillion vehicles with almost free parts lying around everywhere? its NOT DAYZ as it was intended. tl;dr instead of complaining, change your mindset from demanding to learning. use the opportunity to get better and learn the game now, while there are less zombies and less dangers. learn how to avoid players and how to survive. then you will be the vet on full release.

This game should be prohibitively difficult.
autoloon replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
"CoD kids" been around awhile now. Every private hive is called "10000000000000 vehicles starting AS50 self bloodbag." So, there's that. I don't care that they exist, they just need to keep their noses out of vanilla talk. -
I really like this idea. I have only played DayZ for 2 days now(didn't play mod) and i have already geared up completely and i just started camping and killing players/hostage looting. I feel like there should be things to do past gearing. Creating vehicles or repairing a town to post up in with friends. Towns could battle each other for supplies and other players would gear up and want to build their own stuff too.

Loot is the biggest priority for end game I think. Having only 3 different guns in the game is pretty lame. A trader city would be awesome too like in Day z Epoch where you can buy/sell/trade without getting owned. Vehicles are a must have with this giant map. Safes are super important too because not being able to hoard gear up makes the game extremely boring personally. Following all that I would implement base building. Lastly, I would add AI missions that feel rewarding for the amount of risk you are putting yourself in by attempting them. P.S. Taking out server swapping where you spawn in the same spot with the same gear is also a huge problem because it ruins immersion completely. Currently you can gear on a underpopulated server and then swap to a populated one and own the kids that are trying to play the game legit. Im sad they even released this game for alpha because its a train wreck at the moment.

Now before all of you jump on me saying that choosing spawns defeats the purpose of the game, just hear me out. A big part of the game is about multiplayer interactions, be that pvp, or with friends. As it is, with no choice in spawns, if you are incredibly unlucky (like me) you will repeatedly end up spawning on the opposite side of the continent as your friends. At that point, your options are now as follows: A: Give up on meeting up with your friend any time within the next day or so. B: Try to find one of the rare and elusive zombies that are out there to kill yourself C: Start walking all the way from Kamyshovo to get to your friends at the Balota Airstrip. Now, I understand the counter argument as to why not have choosable spawns. A: Spawn camping B: People using it to try to get their gear back C: Remove the direness of dying, by making it not as costly (i/e having to walk for 6 hours to get back to where you were.) Now, my idea would be as follows. When you die, you see the map with all the spawn locations. Each spawn location could be a wide sphere that you would spawn within which would extremely reduce spawn camping in a selected spawn situation. You could make the spheres quite big, so you will still be required to walk to wherever your wanting to be going, but hey, at least your in the general area that you want to be. Spawns would probably be just like they are already, but you just choose what area you spawn at. To do that you would probably have to remove the spawns at the major cities, but on the whole, I think it would be good. The spawn camping issue wouldn't be a problem in this situation. On the other hand, people would probably still use it to get their gear back, but I personally don't think that's a problem. In any case, if you made the spawn points wide enough, they still might not be very close to where they died. It would somewhat lessen dying, but does that really diminish the gains? As it currently is, it is pretty much impossible for friends to meet up if they don't happen to spawn near each other. No vehicles (yet) make long distance traveling very tedious, and the suicide restrictions prevent you from spawn hopping. I think that this would be a reasonable solution. It could even be a setting set by the server, options from having say 0 choosable spawn locations, to have 4 very large broad locations to having 16 more precise spawns. Any thoughts on this? Did I miss any of the counter arguments? Try to keep things constructive I'm gunna link a verrrrrry rough mockup of what i'm meaning. You would spawn anywhere within those red circles, you just choose which one. http://i.imgur.com/dOdDK1c.jpg?1

Thats the only thing you can do right know. No zombies to shoot, no vehicles to repair, no animals to hunt, no bases to build. Shooting people is all whats left right now. Edit: And no humanity. Cant w8 to be a hero once more.

First off I want to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the Alpha. Yes, its had its bugs and some of them have been quite frustrating but overall i'm fairly happy with what is there (though there should be more considering 1 1/2 yrs of development.) However, I'm really hoping more types of loot is released into the game (clothing, weaponry, etc) is high value loot spawns. With weapons for example you have a pistol, and M4, and a rifle. Once you get a primary weapon (and possibly a secondary) and you have enough food to survive there is zero reason to be in the north of the map. This is me just making up numbers but I would say 80% of player interaction takes place near coastal cities, which is all fine and dandy except for the fact that it means there is no incentive to leave the coast. Once you're geared up (which you can get from coastal cities anyway) your goal(s) depending on how you want to play are to keep your food / drink stocks up, farm players for blood, continually loot medical supplies so you can blood farm, and help other players if you're the hero type. Because of the limited types of loot, lack of vehicles, lack of tents to set up camp and lack of variety that currently exists in the alpha, you can literally spend all your time on the coast and not miss out on anything in the game. I'm all for player interaction, but it needs to be spread across the map and balanced. The sooner patches come out that increase variety of loot ( with higher chances in the northern parts of the map) the sooner we will see players venture off to explore the map. My group and I have literally gone through a cycle of getting essentials, heading north, getting gear, then back south to blood farm to survive and interact, and its disappointing that there isnt more that calls you to the north yet. Now dont get me wrong, like I said im enjoying the alpha quite a bit, but I'm just hoping they plan on increasing loot variety in the near future. Just my thoughts, thanks for reading. -Tonyb3

Once all the content is in, it becomes pretty tricky to reach what you would consider end game, at least to the point of having nothing to do.. It takes a long time to gather vehicles and top tier stuff, and requires skill to do it all without being killed. I probably only once found myself with not much to search for back in DayZmod.

I like the day/night realisim, I like night time. the only major things I see need to be fixed tbh is to add more weapons and more zombies and to fix the spawns, after that the game is completely fine, and to add vehicles slowly. im glad rocket is updating the game almost everyday now, since he made about 2.6million in sales alone in the fist 12 hours from steam sales I wouldint doubt his motivation either to finally put some effort into this as so many people are helping test. thank you. before the cheaters get rampant I would add vac AND battleye, battleye is so knowledgeable of hacking from the dayz mod and I think honestly it would be foolish to choose another completely different anti cheat to take care of the game when another cheat engine has had so much experience about 2 years of it already. kinda like hiring a rookie to do the job after someone else has for 2 years, nevermind arma 2 in general so 5+ years or even from operation flashpoint so make that so many years lol.... or just use both. maybe delay the implementation to help get information sake on how people are already trying to hack, just to learn from how they are attempting first before u slap the anti cheat on. but I wouldint trust VAC, ive been a real counterstrike hardcore player, and I hated VAC. public cheats would remain undetected forever and nothing ever caught onto it. so many instances where that happens with VAC and it was back in the prime days of cs. when it was 2005ish

As has been pointed out frequently, this is NOT the mod. In the mod, you had UI. In the mod there were vehicles. In the mod there werent diseases in clothing or bloodtypes. The standalone is evolving as it goes. The difference between a mod and a game is that you can do whatever you want with a mod. A game you have to face issues like balance, playability as well as enjoyability in a game. Bringing up an idea for the game is not the same as bringing it up in the standalone. And no matter how beaten to death it was in the mod, the topic is still just as valid. Stop being rude and counterproductive.

Homeless Simulator 2014 (because too few zombies)
LouisK replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Not really, if you read the known issues you will find that this is not any major game breaking bug and that other things are more important than the gameplay. Priority of things are not decided by the community or the testers, issues are fixed as seen fit by the developers following their roadmap. Early access was to get involved with the development of the game, not to play and expect 100% fun and things working and complain about what isn't working because you're not having fun. More than half of the current features are broken and/or incomplete and/or not working as intended. It's not up to you to decide if it should take priority, at least not until you begin to see this as an alpha and not as a game. Seems that your concept of testing is sort of distortioned. You are expected to test the current things in any way you are able with your current resources. Why do you want to establish a base? What will change that with your testing scheme? Why do you even need vehicles at all to test? If the developers give you those features, you will only focus on getting vehicles, storing stuff and minding your very own business. -
We want quality not just quantity. We have got the Alpha let's appreciate it and not pressure the devs for things that can wait like Vehicles. Then we will be able to build them rather than just find one.
-
Still a long way away from having animals, vehicles back in I'm sure. Alphas gonna be awhile :D I'm really happy with the frequency of the updates though, keep up the good work Devs !

Homeless Simulator 2014 (because too few zombies)
AlcApwn (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
i totally agree. i do not want a herd of zeds running after me and through every obstacle i put between them and me, since their behaviour can be quite... clingy. some of them even camp your position when you put 1km+ bewteen you and them and log out for some hours, and i dislike getting knocked out immediately after logging in. to ensure a pleasant testing environment issues like tents and vehicles should maybe have higher priority as well - its very annoying to be unable to establish a base. -
Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
Mao Zedong replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
If that's how you have fun, helping people, etc, great!! I'm not stopping you! Personally, if i'm up north, i LIKE being shot at (so long as i don't die) it scares the shit out of many, and it's some intense action. If i die, I lose a lot of gear and a lot of time making it up north. Problem with arma 2 is it's just like cod/bf/etc. You don't really lose anything if you die.. I like the feeling that if i lose a fight, i lose everything. I don't like tons of vehicles, rocket launchers etc. I like the dayz theme of weapons, scarcity etc. Arma 2 is just warfare. The zombies also make pvp SUPER interesting. -
Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
King of kong replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
If that's what you do why don't you play ArmA 2? More guns, more maps, more killz, and vehicles -
Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Then don't play DayZ like that? You don't have to. I don't understand. If you don't want to shoot everyone, don't. There's plenty of clans and squads who have this policy. Join one and have fun. I survived for 45 consecutive days during the mod with over 1600 zombie kills and collected over a dozen different vehicles, all while killing a total of like 3 players. If you don't want to engage players in combat, don't do it. But don't expect to be able to wander up to strangers like a lost puppy and ask them for directions to the nearest smoke shop without getting your head blown off. If you want to avoid combat and combat comes from encounter strangers then here's a shocking tip: avoid strangers. "But I want to make friends!" Tough titties. This isn't The Sims. If you want to play kissy-huggy with everyone you meet, then you've come to the wrong zombie-infested Russian wilderness. No, but some people are trying to force me to play it in a certain way that conforms to their pre-conceived standards. Let me get this straight: I don't give a flying fuck what you do and don't find dull or interesting. You're not me. I'm me. I find the constant threat of player attacks to be the sole source of intensity, drama and fear in DayZ. It's the reason the game is exciting. If people only shot me when they had a "really, really good reason" (presumably one they have run by you ahead of time since you're the final arbiter on when it's appropriate to shoot other players) then the game would be dull and uninteresting for me. You see, there are plenty of other very good games out there that allow you to roam around shooting zombies and collecting loot without PvP combat. Nobody is forcing you to play DayZ either. So if all you want to do is shoot zombies and eat fruit, then you're just as capable of finding another game to play as I am. -
Here's a full list Guns, Vehicles, Items etc. currently in SA. Most are disabled and yet to be enabled in the current build. {Spoiler}

More than likely its a supergroup (not a real item) but actually all the blown up vehicles are still listed as vehicles and there are a few blown up tanks. -
Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
reapers239 replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
lol don´t listen to this guy, is worth it even if we dont have much of the features the mod had( vehicles, tents and what not) but the clothing and basic survival was is there and pretty cool. Yes is in alpha but remember that your helping the devs with whatever bug you encounter, i honestly just ran into some minor bugs and they have been fixing things rather quickly
