Third person view removal from SA discussion

It's impossible to tell if I'm in the minority to be honest. So many people have admitted that they enjoy 1st person more but play on 3rd person servers because that's where the action is. The controls don't suck dude. It works absolutely fine. The fact that other people are dealing with the mouse acceleration and slower movements put EVERYONE on the same playing field. Everyone. Frankly, hearing the same shit over and over again about 1st person controls lead me to believe we're just getting a lot of biased parroting in here. "yeah yeah! it's clunky! yeah! What he said!" *rolls eyes* Whatever, I'm done arguing with you. Hopefully Rocket implements that whole not being able to see players/vehicles around corners thing in 3rd person. If that's being worked on then all of this is moot. -
Hey guys ! Purp here.. Here is my suggestion that i hope is possible to be added in dayz! So, in dayz you can find all these breakfast and meals scattered in buildings and vehicles. But what if now you can build a fishing rod, find a fishing rod? This would introduce a whole new gaming experience! Finding fish: The success rate of pulling in a fish, seaweed, or other goods can be around 20% Pros: You can pull in fishes, seaweed, empty water bottles(to refill), possibly clothing? Cons: The fishes rot at a fairly quick rate( Maybe you something to keep it fresh) so move fast. Sometimes the fish can make you sick(15%) Pull in empty cans, rusty objects, torn rags The fishing line can snap, making you have to search for more string. Of course, with devs working on it they can add much more fishing features if implemented. +1 OR -1? Post your feedback!! -Bag of Purp

The controls are only "clunky" if you're trying to play it like an arcade shooter. As I've already said... I do play on 1st person only servers.. but here's the problem: Have someone mod in hundreds of working vehicles and aircraft and starter kits and you'll see the same exact thing versus legacy servers. The ones who suffer are people who enjoy both 1st person and playing with a lot of people. Although apparently this is only an issue with US servers. *shakes head* -
This is why we must have vehicles.. DayZ dogging convoys would be epic.
-
I suppose it would work if people could manage to tell the friendly players where they would be setting up camps and trading posts. I don't think that would really work. You'd have to have a large group and the ability to hide vehicles. Not to mention most people would sit in the tree line and shoot at you from a distance...

Third person view removal from SA discussion
serenityrick replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Like I said.. people choose populated servers over server preference. If the norm becomes "US EAST 200+ VEHICLES MURDER KILLROOM SERVER!!" then you will see those full all the time too. Is that good for the game? No. EDIT - people always choose the path of least resistance. And once that path has been trail blazed.. people will choose the path of popularity. Since 1st person "hardcore" servers are the exact opposite of "path of least resistance", they will never be populated. Then that problem is exaggerated by the fact that the most populated 3PP:OFF servers will be about 15-20 servers down the list when sorted by popularity. It doesn't even get a fair shake. -
DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
elf cakes replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
you shouldnt have needed to tell your friend what to do. just tell him 'the aim is to stay alive' and he would be fine, the game even says 'you are hungry'. as for spawning with friends, hell god damn no. clans would be absolutely everywhere and there'd be absolutely no chance of any interaction. however i do feel that having some servers add the feature and some servers without the feature will be cool. but then you run the risk of eventually having all servers with the feature because it's the more popular opinion. look at what happened with the mod. it started off as a survival game and over time almost every server was CHERNO DEATHMATCH SPAWN WITH AS50 AND DMR 5000 VEHICLES NO NIGHTTIME BETTER LOOT and by god i truly hope we don't end up with that again. -
Is the map and compass to clunky?
[email protected] replied to Serious Stan's topic in General Discussion
I've stopped using both map and compass but once vehicles and GPS thingy makes it in I'll want map again. And to be honest if the map was even harder to find and or split into even more pieces I wouldn't mind. Not very realistic but it's alright as gaming element -
I don't think you can add a lot of artificial and often arbitrary "punishments" for KOS.. People KOS for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I will KOS, most times I will not. Times I will KOS -I see someone who is armed (gun) and is wearing a Payday mask.. Yes, as silly as it is, I feel payday masks are picked up and used by people who want to look "scary".. If you want to look scary or intimidating then I feel you are the type of person who will shoot on sight anyway, so I won't give you the benefit of the doubt. -Fully military geared with gasmasks and camo... People don't get geared up for PVP unless they are looking for PVP... Just like survivors don't don Ghillie Suits and sit on sniper hill in the mod unless they are looking to shoot freshspawns. Not to say everyone who wears military gear will kill you on sight, but it's better to be safe than sorry. -When I find server hoppers/ghosters at NWAF. -When I see fully geared players on the coast. (Balota, elektro, etc.).. If you're still on the coast and you're fully gear, odds are you're looking to kill fresh spawns. This may not always be the case (RhinoCrunch and his crew help fresh spawns), but again, better to be safe, than sorry. So, you see, I have been conditioned by my environment to kill certain people on sight. If I see a survivor wearing civilian clothing and carrying a mosin on his back, I will probably approach him (cautiously) and talk to him, ask him if he needs any help.. And I have had others do the same for me. The problem is not that the game. The problem is the community. People want something to do and they want to use their guns. The way to "Fix" the KOS problem is to show the community through example how rewarding it can be to play as a hero. Youtube: The Green Avenger DayZ, and you will laugh hysterically and it will make you want to take a similar approach. Watch RhinoCrunch's series on "Surviving DayZ Standalone", and he does some really cool things for fresh spawns. These kinds of players/youtubers are good for DayZ, and if you want to fix the KOS "problem", the only way to do so is through your own actions. Another thing is.. Once Vehicles and other "end game" content are put in the game, groups of players will be required to get things done.. Usually this will just be players who have been playing together since the Mod (like my community) helping each other out and shooting outsiders.. There's nothing particularly wrong with this, as you still have people cooperating, and competition and rivalries arise, which brings a lot of action to the game.. keeps people playing if they're always trying to get one over on the competition. TLDR: Before you preach about fixing the game, realize it's the community that has the KOS problem, not the game.. then realize that in order to change the community you have to change yourself first, and inspire others through your actions.

It would only be boring because there is nothing to work forward to. No objective. Just a bunch of loonies fighting for guns and vehicles. In this situation, in real life, my main concern wouldn't be to get a gun. I'd push north, east or west. Anything but staying in this stupid place...

I proudly announce that we have a new winner in the category : Best post of this topic. The momentary ranking(top 3) including our new winner is: First place 2nd Place 3rd Place Hells High has also still a chance to climb up into top 3,if he does step up his game just a little bit more! Hells High you heard it,don't give up so fast.I believe in you! Disclaimer: The price in the category "Best post of this topic" should not be confused with the "winning the discussion in this topic" award. Those two are different awards. You can only "win the discussion in this topic" if you bring valid arguments. For winning the "Best post of this topic" award you don't need necessary valid arguments. Now to the actual topicpart: @Zollicoffer Im sorry that you don't like it, but the forum rules are very clear in this point.Sadly there is pretty less room for arguing on that. It seems that you have to accept it,or bring up some better arguments to disable my standpoint. If you don't,i won the discussion in this topic and with that i won the discussion in the whole forum. @e47 Yes the game is fun for the first 5 minutes of play, but than it falls appart. There are just not enough interesting locations and things to do on the map. Relining on player vs player as core gameplayelement is just not enough, because it gets very repetitive, with the small toolset which is available at the moment, for the players. And it does not look like BI is willingly to change that in an considerable amount of time. Why should they, after the players have showed them, with the huge amount of steam sales, that they are totally happy with this kind of development policy. Beyond that ,instable netcode, clipping errors and environmental pop ups of objects in the middle distance, giving the game the final deathblow at the moment. There is no lack of good ideas from forum members. Like: -the integration of an ancient museum with swords, bows, morningstars and other medieval themed weapons, where the player can go and loot those things -randomly on the map crashed ambulance vehicles which you can loot. -former survivorcamps with zombified people crawling around in them. -including rivers with floating corpses and items in them -bitten players turn into zombie npcs. -weather effects like fog,rain/floods or thunderstorm. But i don't think that the developers take any of this ideas serious, even if they should.I would go further and would say that they don't take anything serious at all. They are just to busy of doing nothing productive and writing disclaimers, that we should not buy their steamproduct at the moment, which does not hinder them at all to give it free for sell on steam ;)

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one
bummel313 replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Similar to what my group has done. But only because you HAD to walk for the loot to spawn. If we had a car at this state of the SA we would just rush in with the car stop in front of the interesting building for two minutes and then be gone again. Like we would have done it in the mod... For a loner vehicles might be useless but when you start playing with a group its the salt in the soup. Imagine you have a group being around the NWAF, then one player dies because of whatever and he ends up spawning in kamyshovo... This player pretty much ends up meeting up the group the next day or something because he would a have 10km run to do.... -
If we can find a new lee enfiled model with and without a scope yes we can other wise no. Yes we are looking at adding two armed land vehicles.

Break "engine" Down To Smaller Parts
terminal_boy replied to Karmaterror's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
^ This. Unless you have an inflatable engine lift in your pack, you're not swapping engines anywhere but in a fully equipped workshop inside a fortified structure. Main causes of vehicles left at the roadside will be running out of fuel or flat batteries due to the lights being left on overnight. So a 5L fuel can and a car battery would be your best bet to get discarded vehicles running again. -
Break "engine" Down To Smaller Parts
AP_Norris replied to Karmaterror's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In fairness the mod had "engine parts" but I like this system anyway. The more micro managing and difficulty in fixing something the better. Vehicles could be fixed in about 30 mins in the mod an hour should be a quickfix to get it moving, then another few hours even with the vehicle working to get it up to full health. specifics aren't bad either. Motorbike engine could be done in one whole piece. Bicycle tire, Motorcycle tire, car tyre all purpose, car tyre off road. -

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one
Karmaterror replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Too many vehicles leads to the whole hoarder mentality. Im guilty of it myself, fix a car....stick it by my tent....but as soon as the tent overflows and the car holds loot thats it. I wont take it out again, next time i go out is to find another car....and the cycle continues. Also tacticaly when given the choice id always travel on foot for the concealment factor. Cars are just bullet magnates. I think a low car count would be good, with more emphasis on pushbikes....or maybe even ridable animals. As far as helis go i would like to keep them out of SA. As another person said, if you have a heli it takes about 10mins to check all the map boarders for camps. Then fly the grid to check the mainland, another 10 mins. Thats why on the mod i would just gear up on food and drink, hit the map edges, and look for camps or the holy grail....AKA the huey ;) -

Hello, My name is a Drunken. I'm a 28 year old residing in the United States. I've been playing Day Z since around the release of the mod and have played various versions of said mod. While I won't claim to be the best shot, or even a good shot, I do enjoy playing tactically, playing smart, but this isn't about me, this is about the group I'm looking to form up. Whilst bandits and the nonsense that comes up with coast hunters don't bother me at all, it does seem to ruin the experience of some new players. I imagine it to be quite frustrating to be starting out new, in a new game, without much knowledge, only to die repeatedly at the hands of a child armed with a Balota M4, or having to spawn in to a freshly picked coastline with no loot whatsoever. Do not misunderstand, I am not discouraging banditism (I think I just made up a new word.), but I want to give these fresh spawns a fighting chance at survival...This is where my Lawbringer Initiative comes into play. I'm looking for veterans, new players, and the like looking to essentially bring law to the lawless! We will scrounge up supplies, fit them in back packs or those golden protected cases and create kits to drop off to fresh players. We will provide a leg up to those wanting to be a human being in-game. We will patrol the coasts of the servers we play on, hunting down murderers and highway men. We will restore order in a land of chaos! Restore faith in humanity, and bring justice to those who are wronged! DO NOT CONTACT ME IF ALL YOU WANT IS TO GET GEARED UP AND HUNT PEOPLE DOWN! Requirements: At least 18 years of age Mature personality The ability to have fun in idle chat when not doing anything, but can maintain radio silence in dangerous situations No loot hoarding. Loot is to be shared and dispersed amongst those who need and can use it the most effectively. If you have never fired a sniper rifle, and one just so happens to pop up, that rifle is to go to the team's designated sniper. If said sniper already has a rifle, then you may use it if it is your intention to become a sniper for our team. The want to make a difference in the game world by helping others and punishing those who are there just to cause grief. MUMBLE. We have our own Mumble server. You MUST have a microphone and MUST be willing to use Mumble. Death is inevitable. Do not become discouraged. Simply restart, re-kit, it's not that hard at all. Wanted Team Member Roles: Sniper/Recon Coast Patrol/Lawbringer Enforcement Agents. Medics Rapid Response Task Force (Will be implemented later, with vehicles.) If you are interested, send me a message via Skype: kkracker86 Hope to see hear from you soon.

Well don't forget that even sickness system is not fully in. They plan to add more infections and stuff, so it will get harder. And also since now we have like 1/100 of content available, you can get bored ultra fast since you can get best gear after looting single barracks. If we had vehicles, tons of weapons (some very rare ofc) and just more of everything, I don't think anybody would get bored quickly. I think we really can not judge the game now, not beyond the bare bones we got. It will be much much more!
-
I am almost for anything if it's East block / Russian origin. So just no overabundance of Western stuff & vehicles, these should be rare. Although if story goes, that NATO made intervention into Chernarus, then we should see some Humvees etc but hopefully not that many of them. Can't wait to ride in my trusty UAZ offroad again !!
-
That sounds awful imho. Once more content is added the game will become more enjoyable the later your character goes. The standalone will have more to do than the mod in terms of customization of vehicles and weapons alike, meaning you'll have to hunt harder to get exactly what you want. The more prone to illness and hunger/thirst is just punishing for those who don't run around on the shore and deathmatch.
-
They just need to implement more stuff to do, not only things like construction and vehicles but also meta-game stuff like territory control and clan warfare, a strategic resource system even, that sort of stuff. Something to strive for, contribute to, organize groups around and to give a sense of something more than an elaborate version of UT2004 happening in the world, to make it more dynamic. It would be different if the world was procedural and/or alterable in some way but its static and completely uninteractive, there essentially as a thematic backdrop to the 'action'. Looting the same items from the same spots from the same buildings from the same locations is bound to get tedious and boring considering gearing up can take only like 20 min for people who want to do it fast. It might be fine for a mod where the expectations are lower, I've put hundreds of hours into, for example, the cRPG mod of Mound and Blade, playing the same couple of maps over and over but if they announced a standalone version of that I would be disappointed if all their aspirations came down to doing the same thing and little else, not expanding the core gameplay at all.
-
Been playing this game since release and tbh I'm bored without vehicles, 2 years of development and not even a heli or a car yet? It's not like they've had to rebuild the entire game, inb4 its alpha, it really doesn't matter if its an alpha its just as simple as adding a gun or a player model, I don't see why we have to wait for vehicles.
