This Game is Being Advertised as an MMO Right? Char Bound to Server.
gerbilschooler replied to gjhook's topic in Suggestions
This^^^^^^ Private hives will come and then you can have your DayZ epoch BS where you spawn in with BFG and a ten inch black dildo of pwnage.. oh, and one minute in from shore, awaiting YOU is... A BRAND NEW CAR!!! WHOO HOO YAY!!! ...I LOVE all the wonderful private servers that the mod has now... oh, it's so much fun to have to wade through lists of [100000000+ Vehicles! 2,000,000,000 ARMY TENTS and a "SWEET FUCK ALL" initial loadout!!!!] just to find that one lonely server that starts you with a bandage and some flares... Edit: Like poster I quoted said... server homes will be made more apparent once tents make their way onto the scene -
I hope vehicles will be rare - A video I made so you can compare
pillock replied to res's topic in General Discussion
That's why the devs should introduce more punishing fatigue mechanics to go alongside the introduction of vehicles. While marching is still the only mode of transport, I can live with the ability to run everywhere all the time, in order to keep the game interesting; but once we do have vehicles, then it'll be time to ditch the unrealistic iron-man nonsense and force people to choose between walking and exhaustion if they want to travel around on foot. -
My new DayZ Mod series. Episode 5 is here!
thedogfoodyayho replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Nice to see someone else on here still playing the mod. Nice vidoes overall so far. I recommend playing on the "DreadZ" Private hive. Its vanilla, (No self BBs, Spawn with gun/gear, ect) but all the vehicle spawns are turned on, so theres around 70 vehicles. Although theres a constant 15-25 people on, its relatively untouched - i found a legit spawn SUV in its legit location, actually drivable. I've also seen two helicopters, one of which was piloted by now-banned hackers (But was stolen from a legit player) one of which i killed :D. Its also great for base hunting. I've found a few, especially in random areas. Skalka and NEAF are empty. But anyway, if you are still going by the "Me surviving" of your first video, i recommend playing on this server. Just be aware, alot of the players are friendly and will probably hunt you down. How to find: Search "DreadZ" in DayZ commander. -

Okey, people, after doing some moves, I found a civilian vehicle in DayZ (It wasn't in the original Arma 3 vehicles list) but it has some "optimization problems": Other vehicles work just fine; -
[Day Z: Standalone] Controller Default Layout
antykain replied to IncrediBurch's topic in General Discussion
I'll most likely be using my gamepad controller or my joystick when the eventual day that vehicles/aircraft get ingame. Haven't tried it yet with the current build.. might have to play around with it for the heck of it and see what comes of it. -
What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?
Karmaterror replied to oregonized's topic in General Discussion
This may make some of the base builders amongst us shed a tear in memory... Remember that epic camp you had (we all had one at some point), you know the one. Few really good camo vehicles, good few tents, maybe some wire fence or sandbags for asthetics....your own little sanctuary in the harsh world of Chernarus..... Now remember when you logged in and there was NOTHING THERE lol, sometimes hundreds of hours work that you know was destroyed in seconds.....iv heard more rage on TS when iv announced that our camp has fallen, than over any act in any computer game. I really hope they put a lot of focus on bases when they get past the performance issues. We need those moments in SA! :) -
What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?
oregonized replied to oregonized's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, the storage is going to be the main reason and also once vehicles are in the game it would provide a safe place to park them without having to worry too much about people jacking them or scavenging parts. My favorite part would be sitting back and admiring the camp I made with my friends. -
OP, thank you. you clearly expressed your opinion and views on the matter in a way that was logical and respectful. A rarity around here. I especially like how you respect other play styles that you disagree with by seeing the merits or understanding the other viewpoint, while adhering to your own. Very mature, with a strong sense of integrity. To answer your question, KoS IS and IS NOT an issue. Right now, it does get out of hand sometimes. I KoS occasionally, but primarily from a lack of anything better to do. I have played the helpful/friendly/hero/whatever route, and had fun with it. But I have ALSO found it to be highly disappointing at times (help a bambi gear up by giving him a backpack full of food and suggest he go north, but he just says hes gonna go to balota to find a gun. Mind you, this was on a hi pop server where balota was likely already cleaned out and full of bandits. My efforts were wasted on him. Just one example). Sometimes I like to find a really nice hunters hide (high ground, top of building, deer stand, whatever), scout it out, plan escape routes, take practice shoots to find the range, then come back later and wait. A player shows up, comes within my zone, and I kill him. Sounds empty and uncomplicated. Maybe even trollish at first glance. But for me, its not about the kill. Its the whole ritual of the hunt. Pitting my wits against that of another HUMAN BEING in a life or death struggle that both parties get to walk away from un harmed. The adrenaline rush of knowing that this person is just as capable of outwitting me, becoming the hunter, not wanting to miss the shot for fear of failure, and the ecstasy of successfully defeating my opponent, or the possibility of defeat (which would mean the potential for growth, improvement, and further challenge). I have said all this before, and caught a LOT of flack for it. But what a lot of people fail to realize, is that I don't do this all the time. I have KoSed another player a grand total of FIVE times. First two were hunts, the third was a poorly geared player running straight at me that may or may not have intended harm, the 4th was a server hopper that dropped into the shower room of a barracks RIGHT NEXT TO ME, and the last was another hunting kill. Any other player kills were the results of combat I did not initiate. Eventually, the game will have more items, concepts implemented, greater threats from the zombies, base building, vehicles, etc. ALL of these things will become tools that players can use in friendly interactions that will make those interactions more numerous, more varied, and more interesting. Right now, we just don't have many "tools" to work with. So some people, myself included, turn to other thrills. Which themselves get boring and tiresome after a while. There is much more coming to this game. It hasn't been out in a playable state for even 3 months yet. We all just need to give it time.

I'm sure when they'll add in vehicles, additional zombies and loot respawning, it's going to feel like entirely a whole new game. Now I wonder if the experimental branch has any zombies on it?

crazykage replied to oregonized's topic in General Discussion
Cool picture! Did u make or find? I fully condone KoS, and do it myself from time to time. Problem is that player interaction is limited by how much we can actually do together or for each other. I want to see more of it, but as it is, its difficult due to limitations which force us to have only a few options, which get boring over time, leaving us (me) with a desire for something different (in this example, KoS). Naturally, some will disagree, which is fine. But when the game is a full release, and we have private hive communities that enforce roleplay rules in which KoS is only allowed when it is relevant to the roleplay, THIS picture is where I see this game going eventually. Players will have to work together, form a community, repair vehicles for transportation of manpower and material, gathering tools, lumber, generators for those lights, fuel for those generators and vehicles, tents, barricades, etc. I am already thoroughly enjoying the game. But its nothing compared to what it will eventually become, I think. And this picture is a perfect image of my hopeful imagination of that eventual outcome. I would give you beans, OP, but I cant give out anymore today, it seems... -
Any rumors ? Are vehicles far away ? Is there going to be a skill system ? Would be nice to see base building in the not so far future. What other things would make this game really take off ?

What can we look forward to in the next few patches ?
solodude23 replied to Jono67's topic in General Discussion
I don't want vehicles or any special base building just yet. At this point I'm most interested in seeing loot spawn locations fixed, respawning loot, hunting, sickness, cooking, player temperature, and stronger need for resting. Basically the core survival elements. After that, zombie pathing, more zombies, and respawning zombies! :P -

would be very nice to see. if crafting and base building was in the game right now and vehicles it would be a perfect reason to go exploring and give yourself a goal. -

Problematic replied to Jono67's topic in General Discussion
I've seen a tweet that they were planning on renewing/balancing the loot next so I'd expect that to come the upcoming weeks. My further personal forecast (based on virtually nothing); more weapons (including - maybe later on - melee), increased number of everyday items, balancing/expanding of the medical/health system (e.g. adding purpose to more items / sicknesses) and I don't think the first vehicles are that far away but that's just a wild guess (my personal predicition is somewhere after March but we'll see). There was talk about revising the original roadmap late january to account for higher-then-estimated sales but I guess that got shelfed due to some pretty gamebreaking bugs but I hope they will publish a new roadmap in the upcoming weeks. -
Please Bring Back The Stary Sober Military Tents
gibonez replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Last thing the game needs is even more military loot spawns. Balota should be converted into a civilian airport with civilian things inside. North western airfield a Russian airport with russian weapons and ammo and vehicles North East airfield a small Nato airport with nato weapons and vehicles. -
Yes and no. If implemented like in Epoch where you can mostly secure one, it can still be stolen or shot, then yes vehicles will solve the issue. If implemented like in Vanilla Mod then someone will simply find all the vehicles and drive them all to the same remote corner of the map and you will have to go find them any time you want to travel so they might as well NOT be on the map anyway.

Vehicles will solve a lot of those problems. Like even if we had bikes..

Hi all, My name is Ewoot and i'm part of the community United Gamers (www.unitedgamers.eu). We are a European focussed Dayz community (everyone and all games are welcome) with our root in the Netherlands. We also have two Dayz Taviana .com server, each 50 slots and linked to the same private hyve. My opinion offcourse is that these are the best Taviana servers available. We have 750 vehicle spawn all placed on custom locations, so not the default locatios. Random spawn locations (on the two islands, near water). Custom helicrashes, with a better loot system for balanced loot spawn, same for the care packages, truck crashes, APC crashes. We are totally a PvP server, so always good fun. Oh yeah, 3 hour server restarts, every day @ 7 PM UTC+1 the all damages vehicles will respawn and every friday @ 7 PM UTC+1 there is a full vehicle reset. You start with minimum gear, but with map and toolbox. With the toolbox you can remove parts from other vehicles and with those parts you can repair you own vehicle. So lots of movement on the server ;-) Also we spent a lot of time to create a custom webbased admin panel where the admin have just enough rights to admin the server, but not abuse it. The admins have no map (apart from the head admin that uses TSW Anti hack). All admin actions are logged, so other admins will notice abuse by other admins. Also before i forget to mention it, we synchronize player statistic to our website after every server restart (every 3 hours). You can see your total (all character combined) murders, bandit kill, deaths, zombie kills, etc. I would like to invite you to come around on our servers and have some pvp fun. Server 1: 212.83.145.238:2302 Server 2: 212.83.145.238:2322 You are also always welcome on our teamspeak server: ts.unitedgamers.eu If you dont agree with the best server part, join and play or drop a message :-) Greetz, Ewoot

Have you seen how many military bases, personal fuel tanks, gas stations there are in Chernarus? Seems to me like there isn't a shortage of fuel anywhere, pre-apocalypse. We're also playing in a small part of the overall country of Chernarus, which means we're in what seems to be the rural part, with a significant military presence. When the apocalypse hit, obviously fuel would be scarce, but not in the way you're making it out to be. Chernarus isn't a poor African country. It's a medicore ex-soviet bloc. It's obviously a bit westernised and to add to the fact, Takistan in the Armaverse is a stone's throw away. Which has major oil reserves. You're grasping at straws. People want vehicles in game, and we WANT fuel to be a limited resource. Just because cars don't fit into YOUR view of the game doesn't mean there shouldn't be any. Hell, ethanol can be used as an alternative for straight gasoline. But the point stands, there is plently of fuel in Chernarus. -
So I was messing with DayZ and vehicles, and maps, and Arma 3, and I made a test about Arma 3 vehicles in normal Chernarus, then saw these threads about Chernarus+ being shrinked in DayZ Standalone.. Fuck it. I ported Chernarus PLUS map to Arma 3, piece of cake, took 5 minutes, no sarcasm. And I started looking around the map in the editor. See? This is old, standart Chernarus map; No Svetlo; Now THIS is Chernarus+ ported to Arma 3 editor: New towns, Svetlo.. The thing is.. What is all of that space for? Does this mean that they will expand the map later?

Hi. I hope that before they add vehicles, they add lots of debris and road blocks like in the mod. In the mod you couldn't just go full speed everywhere without hitting a trash pile or some other block and wreck your car. Those trashpiles and other stuff blocking the road also provide good spots for ambushes. Regards. -

You totally missed the point of everything he said. Read again, slower, with less of your nose in the way. You also don't even know what your saying. The gas stations, garages, and hundreds of ruined vehicles on the map seem to completely contradict you (new) point. You have shifted ground from map size to plausibility and availability of vehicles and resources. You can't make a new argument every-time someone calls you out on your old shitty one. -

I guess old UAZ vehicles of 1970's would fit DayZ perfectly. Its speed is not above 120 km\h (78 mph), even lower I guess. -

Daemonkid replied to res's topic in General Discussion
Lmao. The map is to small for vehicles? The only reason it feels small is because of the increased running speed. That's it. Why would there be no cars? Did all the cars suddenly disappear from Chernarus? Was it a carpocolypse? Did the zombies eat the cars? Of course there is going to be vehicles. Vehicles will also serve as storage, and when base building is added, will pretty much be the only way to transport otherwise heavy materials across the map. Are you telling me you want to lug a stack of 2x4's across the map to where you want to build your base? They'll also be used for transporting large groups, picking up you buddies, hell, even helping strangers with a ride if you're willing to risk it. ( I used to run a taxi service in the mod, fare was based on distance and ammo/med supplies were currency for me.) You logic makes no sense Wheunis. -

I dunno. I'm kind of looking forward to being able to weld gun turrets and anti-zombie spikes on to a family sedan to give the game post apocalyptic Mad Max or Carmageddon sort of feel. As long as fuel is limited and off-road driving is difficult and damaging to vehicles, I don't think it'll wreck the balance too much. But helicopters/planes, I agree shouldn't be included.
