Firstly let me express my thoughts on DayZ so far,.... Being quite a veteran mature of age gameplayer the only other game that I have played that I enjoyed so much was the COD world at War multiplayer tactical crouch servers I love playing Arma II and the DayZ mods and I find this game much much better than that, in other words I love DayZ SA For all the Alpha faults, glitches, bugs, within the game so far, this game is going to be a classic, possibly the most classic game ever because its you that makes the game whatever you want it to be. For example I like lonewolfing, I like doing my own thing, I like finding a town getting in gearing up and getting out, I like watching other players doing their thing oblivious to my presence, I like going to help out Fresh prawns if they get into difficulty or taking on the Kos`ers,...I have not been killed thus far by a Prawn because I never give them the opportunity to do so,..keeping them in sight at all time and out of range with their fists etc.and if they give it the large out they have a choice of either leaving me along or dying,..simples ! Last week I met up with a friendly,...group,... 2 guys at first then 3 and finally ending up with 6 so then I became a part of a wolfpack and again we, as a group, helped out players took on the Kos`ers mainly around Elecktro. Things became exciting when another pack entered the area and a massive firefight took place,..I say pretty exciting because it made my heart pump and made me think seriously about tactics and preserving my game life,...what other game has made you an emotional wreck and has made you actually think about what you are doing. Sadly one of my group was over enthusiastic with his M4 and I became another "Blue on Blue" statistic and saw the DZ>BSOD. Respawn and live to fight another day The gun battle would have been bloody brilliant but our combatants upon finding that they were losing and instead of graciously dying by the sword decide to `batlog and ghost into an advantageous position,.....sad for them to do that really and pretty much spoilt it all in the end,..my group still became the victors but, well you know I see a lot of posts coming through the forum about the game being boring, about the quality of game play, bemoaning the bugs and glitches and while everyone who has purchased the game absolutely has the right to voice an opinion but come on,.........Rome wasnt built in a day and all that,... and yes some things do seem slow to being rectified,....ghosting, batlogging, item spawning and zombies being able to run through walls after you think that youve outwitted them. Why not help the Devs out with the bug report system however minor you think it may be to you it may make a whole lot of difference as we slowly advance towards the Beta. I say we,....we are all in this together right. Again I say to you,....its your game and you can make the game whatever you want it to be but some of you are going to have to be patient

Ghosting/server Hopping, Combat Logging/bandit System, And Also Zombie Difficulty
cels posted a topic in Suggestions
Server hopping and ghosting: I would think the best way to solve this is make it a actual penalty to switch servers.. If you want to change servers, you should randomly spawn elsewhere from where you logged out from on your original(home) server. The possibility of where you would spawn should be the whole map. Server hop too much or be a fresh spawn already and you will spawn at one of the new character spawn points with no gear. This would also make base building less easy to spawn inside other peoples base. Obviously as well with this system, that after so much time on the current server you are in, the server would be considered your home server. With this, the number of how many times you can change servers before just being spawned at a new character spawn points again with no gear will reset. Should have a warning in place maybe as well to let you know a couple more server hops and you are spawning as a new character. **Obviously this is more so a idea for when items respawning is fixed.** Combat logging and Bandit system: One thing i could think of to add on top of another system for combat logging is that it is based on if you are a bandit or not. I guess you can call it the bandit system.. If you want to kill players, there should be a penalty in way that makes it so you dont log out immediately(even if no gunshots in the area). Only time the player killing penalty wouldnt apply is if you kill someone who is a bandit. I would also add a decay overtime effect that persists through death(sorta like UO). That the longer you go without killing someone, your bandit status decreases eventually to the point when you will no longer be considered a player killer. Would be nice also having this in place for the accidental player killing. **Keep in mind, The combat logging idea/bandit system above. Im saying this should be added on top of a system to make it so people cant combat log. Which personally im a fan of the gun shots fired in the area should keep you from logging out for 3 to 5 minutes. Gun shots keep going, your character doesnt log out.. You either run to get out of the area so your character can log out immediately, or fight back.** But not to base it just on gunshots. Add as well that if you are in the area of another player and tempt to log out. It should give a warning saying your character will not be logging out immediately. With the bandit system you would just get the warning saying you are a bandit and your character will not log out immediately (despite if someone is nearby or not). If your character is not a bandit, it will immediately log out if no one is around. -You could add, to bring more of a penalty to killing players and reward for not killing. Logging out while being friendly around other friendlies will log you out immediately. But if a bandit is near, it will not. Friendly near friendly with gunshots in the area will keep you still logged in as well- Also.. Zombie aggro, bleeding and injuries/sickness, and being held hostage/prisoner will keep you from logging your character out til a set amount of time. Lastly.. Zombie difficulty: Right now I think they are pretty much just a nuisance when really they should be very dangerous. The one way I believe this could be fixed is going back into the zombie genre and making it so that they can only be killed by headshots.. This will change gameplay quite drastically I would think come SA when theres alot more zombies in the area. Gunfire would be more of a last resort because of the number of zombies it will attract. Would also promote teamwork since going alone into a town will be a bit more difficult since zombies wont be as easy to kill. A person alone can quickly be in a bad situation if they attract alot zombies.. Could also be quite possible to make it a dangerous situation for a group of people. But yeah.. thats all the ideas I had.. Just think the game can be a bit more difficult really and have a little more consequence for your actions. -
I think ghosting and hopping are much more worst than TS, also you can't force people not using it, it's your choice using it or not, it depends if you want a full immersion with the game or not.

DayZ Combat Loggers (Caught) - Discussion On Combat Logging
TD808 replied to UnitedStatesOfAmerica's topic in Gallery
Ghosting is logging out, changing servers then moving to flank or to gain a better position and then logging back in. -
This. Given how well the sound engine currently seems to work, I wouldn't put much faith in a 'proximity gunshot detector'. (edit: I don't mean to suggest that such a system would be based on sound, only that it would almost certainly be buggy and unreliable) Any unsafe logout should cause you to persist in the world for *at least* 5 minutes, to give the people you're engaged with a good chance to cautiously approach your last known position. A safe logout would circumvent that, and require something like a 1 minute setup of a sleeping bag. This is something that should not be possible indoors. Additionally, I'd add that if someone logged out indoors, taking a chance on the 5 minute timer, they should be teleported a half a km or more away upon logging back in. This *should* solve combat logging, ghosting, and do a great deal to help with server hopping, unless I'm missing something.
-
Having a timer for character logout doesn't mean you die if your computer crashes.... If you're running along in the woods and your computer crashes, no worries, you can log back in and all is fine. If you are in combat with a zombie or a person and your computer crashes... whoopsy most likely you lose your shit. If you have issues with the game crashing your computer, troubleshoot the issue and find out why, it has never crashed for myself, as well as a lot of people, so to say DON'T implement a logout time to help ease combat logging because some people have game crashing issues, doesn't make any sense to me at all.... I would rather lose my toon 5 times in a year due to a storm or my ISP fucking off, than 5 times a month due to combat log ghosting, and I'd rather lose it 1000 times to those things than to have a bead on some asshole that failed to kill me firstoff, only to see him disappear to combat logging.

DayZ Combat Loggers (Caught) - Discussion On Combat Logging
Blaaaaaaag replied to UnitedStatesOfAmerica's topic in Gallery
Meant to quote you but I gave you beans. So have some beans! Also, don't forget ghosting. Ghosting is getting to be far too prevalent, and while it hasn't happened to me, it's annoying to watch it happen in streams and youtube vids. The solution will have to be a log out timer of some sort, but it's going to need to be longer than 15 seconds. If you're playing at all smart, it'll take longer than that to flank or approach the position of the suspected combat logger. The timer should be more like 5 minutes, to allow for a safe and careful approach of the targets last known position. Admittedly, 5 minutes is quite long, and so should perhaps be accompanied by a safe logout method of some sort, the campfire/sleeping bag type thing that's often suggested. And if you log out in a building, you should be randomly teleported 300-2500 meters upon logging back in. -
I disagree that its cheating,..the only time that you could day its slightly advantageous over another player is when you chat to someone across the map to coordinate meet ups.As for chatting together as a group within close proximity its just that same as if your characters were directly talking to each other,so I see no problem with that. As for cheating my vote goes to combat logging and ghosting.

For those complaining about development pace
Mdogg2005 replied to Mdogg2005's topic in General Discussion
If only people actually did this. What do we get instead? At least 30 threads a day all relating to KoS, ghosting, server hopping, and badmins. Another ~40 posts a day with "awesome suggestions to "fix" problems with the game" that are all just terrible in their own regard and could have been posted in one of the other 10000 posts on the same subject. These forums man. I don't know. -
No but dayz rewards organised team play, just like all other competitive online games, and the best way to be organised is good communication like teamspeak. And also its a lot more fun than just sitting for hours on end in silent. combat logging, ghosting and using third party maps that's cheating

What Alpha Is Supposed To Be (A Discussion On Dev Direction And If The Game Will Ever Be Completed)
MethHeadMario replied to jovlon's topic in General Discussion
I just recently found out that they have something already made for combat logging, they just won't turn it on until they know they can handle the load it would put on the server.http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168839-hot-spawning-ghosting-combat-logging/ Thats the link to the Topic I started about Combat logging etc. -

A logoff timer is the only way to combat ghosting and combat logging. Or you could change the whole system of one persistant character per hive, to one character per server you log onto. -
Neutral Trading Zones - NPC enforcers if possible
Element47 replied to jprime84's topic in Suggestions
there are several successful trading venues in DayZ, FTC comes to my mind for example. the only game-enforced "safe zone" i would support would be zones in which you cannot log out/in, thus preventing ghosting -
I agree with the OP.. This entire setup is complete chaos. Example: I recently started a post about Combat Logging, Ghosting and Server Hopping. It took 2 days and 3 pages of troll comments before someone was nice enough to give me some info that Rocket said about it. I don't know where the info came from and evidently 1000's of other people have never seen the info because there are TONS of post's complaining about the same thing. I even had a Forum Team Member troll me and tell me I didn't know what I was talking about and that he didn't know whether to close my post or merge it with the thousand other post's about it instead of giving the info that some random other guy gave me..

They have a fix for combat logging but they won't turn it on until they are sure the server's can handle it.. I recently started a thread about Combat Logging, Ghosting, and Server Hopping where someone gave me the info about what Rocket said about the combat logging.. -
Prevent Server Hop to Backdoor & Wall Leaning
gerbilschooler replied to Dunxel's topic in Suggestions
Already been discussed. They are already going to implement something to curb hopping and ghosting... it just might take a while, who knows. And, you did not even suggest your own idea to help prevent it... your post is pretty useless -
I was going to say combat logging or ghosting, because these are fixable and even more annoying. I've played using TeamSpeak and without. Yes, with an organized group on TS against you, you're probably going to have a bad time. My advice is for you to do the same as those groups because you're right, it's a losing battle.

I am legitimately scared every time I log in
pilgrim* replied to Dr. Phil's topic in New Player Discussion
Hey people Is'nt all this thread because at the moment there are 2 guns + 3 military locations, and NO survival or crafting or hunting - so the game comes down to a kind of capture the flag where you have to get the STANDARD LOOT before the other players get it, and everyone knows where it is... and THEN what have you got left to do?? ... unlike the mod, you can learn the whole SA (as it stands) in 2 days, do everything there is to do, then .. repeat... repeat... so AT the MOMENT its just like any 50 games - its CoD except you have to go and find your gun first... I got shot and looted (KoS naturally, is there anything else except 'run away'?), and by amazing chance respawned close and, what the hell, went back to my body in the time limit... the killer had taken ONLY ammo.. I had 3 sacks of rice and 3 water bottles in my pack and TO ME that's the key stuff, some good camo/green, pristine clothes with plenty of pockets, a handgun, boots.. to me the 3 sacks of rice and the three bottles were the most important... with those you can live for days and travel far. He left all that stuff, just took the ammo. Because once you have your gun and your cool shades, then what do you do next? You eat 1 whole can of beans, drink 2 colas (and that's your 'survival' sorted out for the evening) , then go shoot it up. There's little or no communication because theres no sidechannel - which should be keyboard only - so none of those "help me" messages, or 'noob lost in the forest', or other interesting stuff that added a dimension to the mod - including the possibility of talking enought to judge if you trusted someone (maybe you were wrong) and the chance to meet up with players, strangers, or make friends... that's not there now. AND if you WERE a survivalist on the mod, then there's plenty of stress when you hunt, someone might hear the shots, or see you making a fire, and you HAVE to go into town because you need antibiotics and bandages... and town may be full of team battles and/or ghosting snipers. So - in the SA at the moment, if you meet someone you expect them to shoot or run, never to talk. (The only people I've voice-spoken to 2 months have been holed up, frightened, and say "Go Away") .. so maybe they feel the same about communication.. they just dont risk it. I went on a <<NO PVP, Only PVE Cooperation>> server yesterday, to say hello - I said 'hello"' and was shot in the head. (lol) It's the different people with different game styles and attitudes that made the mod great - plus the crazy zombies changing at every update. At the moment we only have "get a gun, eat a can, go shoot" with teams on private teamspeak, very little chance of talking to THEM. So the game is workable at the base level for the bang-bang players. Its a good enough start. - it will get better - but SURE, if you get shot every time, or you have to shoot, the surprise wears off.. (its just another FPS standard game) The danger and the STRESS is in moving from tree to tree, guarding your back, crossing open country in dead ground, run zigzag - crawling past those zombies checking which way they turn, how close they come, and sneaking into town when you have NO bandages, realizing there's someone else in this forest, doing your run in to the supermarket when you know there's zombie agro nearby, maybe someone crouched behind that last shelf, checking the hospital roof for movement, trying to make sure you dont get trapped in the apartments with a BUNCH of zombies coming up (they keep coming) and you just heard a couple of bandits shooting on the top floor so now MORE zombs are running in. Oops.. bad scene.. maybe you can lie flat in a back room and let the bandits pull the agro? .that's all STRESS, which is what the game is about. I killed a guy on a staircase he couldnt turn his gun around to shoot straight (he came to get ME) and he was stuck on 2 dead zombs, me too, I kept hitting the wall with my axe, but I got him.. blood dripping to the floor below... then out in nowhere you hear the flies buzzing so you know there's a body (and maybe a live killer) around here (you ever run bleeding looking for a bandage cause you dont have one?).. STRESS... you find a player face down in the middle of the road.. you're starving and see 2 sheep standing next to a crash site with 8 zomb pilots.. So - you experienced people who dont feel that kick any more - this is why, because of the state of SA at the moment - and you people who already feel the stress as new players... wait till this game REALLY gets going.. it can be exciting, frightning, - so you can't even describe the sensation (wow) - even for long-time players who know their way around. But a lot of stuff has to be added yet, and I'm wondering how well the servers can deal with it. xx PILGRIM -
this is only a temporary thing...remember server hopping and ghosting is a simple fix and wont be around much longer. tents are great and I welcome them back. remember that feeling of randomly coming across a tent or camp...oh man that was tits in the mod. Then you look inside them all and find a can of beans and a soda...ugghhh

I think every bad action except hacking is justified in this game
crazykage replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Look guys (no cheaters, not you. I'll get to you in a moment...). You are NOT going to convince these cheaters that what they are doing is wrong. They are NOT going to change their world view because you explain it to them, no matter how eloquently and intelligently you tell them. You would have better luck explaining the moral consequences of bullying to a bully, in the hopes the bully would change their ways. Like trying to tell them that the reason they pick on others is because, deep down, they feel weak, and need to feel stronger. The bully would just spit in your face, right? I only responded to this thread to point out to the OP that "NO, not everyone who plays this game has a total lack of integrity when they do so, just because YOU don't." AND to tell him not to try and bring me down to that level. For you, the cheaters, yes, I understand there are "grey areas". Doing it ONE time, or to learn about the game, or because you trekked 500 miles to get to "X" spot and found it had been looted, so you hoped, etc... these are minor sins. But combat logging, ghosting, hoping (to "gear up fast easy mode" as the OP put it), hot spawning (whatever the fuck that is. Never heard of it until today), is an exploit. The only difference, in my eyes, between this and using an ACTUAL hack, is the fact that its free and there is no third party program or script. You are still CHEATING to gain an unfair advantage over others, that is NOT a part of the intended game design. You can say whatever you want. HOWEVER you want. NOTHING will change that fact. And anything you say to yourself to convince yourself otherwise is a lie you tell yourself to justify your actions. So go ahead and give me shit about my "soapbox" or whatever. I have fucks to give, but you cant have them.... -
Hot Spawning, Ghosting, Combat Logging. @@@
JustYouForget replied to MethHeadMario's topic in General Discussion
Easy ways to fix that? sure. Make the log out time 10 seconds from the time you hit log out ( immune from zombie hits durring this time) annnnd ghosting!? Hive servers. Aka no worries m8 this game will be great. its only 20% done right now. -
Anyone still noticing servers that do this?
Sir Digby Chicken Caesar replied to hatesauce's topic in General Discussion
Trying to hold people up or shout hostile, which i think is probably the dumbest rule ever, aint worth it as long as this lame ass combat logging and ghosting is a viable option to these pussys. Just shoot and ask questions later. -
What was your most annoying death by another player
cheesus18@hotmail.com replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I was taught some valuable lessons yesterday that I really should have already known. A friend and I were at Balota airfield, him with scoped mosin, and me with a shotgun, a sawn off, an FNX, and a magnum. We entered the western jail/barracks and all the doors were closed, and somebody began talking to us from the upstairs room. We spoke for awhile and I edged up the stairs, and he opened fire, luckily hitting the handrail. We told him we'd leave, and carried on to the control tower. My friend really wanted to kill this guy after he tried to shoot me, so he sat in the tower watching the door to the jail/barracks, while I watched the stairs of the tower. A few minutes later we hear a a shotgun reload, confused, we think somebody must be outside. Suddenly, the guy from before steps out from under the stairs and blows me away with his shotgun. I was so annoyed with myself. We should have left along time ago, or at least realised the reload noise was somebody logging in. Also, dirty ghosting b*stards!
