    Will dayz ever be a survival game?

    Hello everyone. I'm not sure if it is against the rules to promote servers here. But recently a friend and i have started a DayZ Epoch server. We are striving to make people get the optimal and authenthic experience with DayZ. Currently as discussed in this topic, DayZ is more about killing other players than working together to survive. But we have made some rules to prevent KOS, while it still isn't only a PvE server. Right now the server is still in its early stage so to say. We do not have many players yet.   2. rocket The problem with implementing this kind of physics is not engine related, it is scale related. In Elder Scrolls, your computer only has to deal with the immediate scene. It can focus entirely on this. It doesn't need to send the state to other people. Imagine having to synchronize that state to 50, or 100, or 150 other clients? When you knock the table, how do you tell the other clients where the object is? Do you send position and orientation updates every frame? Do you send the initial force and let the clients work it out for themselves? Game design is much less about good ideas as it is about being practical and aligning your chosen feature-set properly with the core pillars of your game design. Essentially, you're not wrong. Realistic physics for everything would be awesome - but that needs to be balanced against everything else and the practicality of it all. We have actually implemented a middleware called Bullet Physics into DayZ, which is being used to develop physics for objects. The primary focus is ragdoll but it will also involve throwing, and possibly some cosmetic things. The cosmetic stuff is much, much easier because it can be done locally. But physics on objects is a much lower priority that things that have a real impact on game design, such as construction, barricading, cooking, vehicles, horses, hunting, bows, etc...

Replacing the old comparison tables that were just for weapons, I've integrated new tables for all Ammunition, Consumables, Equipment, Vehicles and Weapons right into the database lists in landscape mode. Edit: Ah yeah, I forgot to say I also tweaked the side-by-side feature to include categories to easily choose types of items instead of choosing within one big list.     I think non traditional "vehicles" used to transport gear would be awesome. Shopping carts, wheelbarrow's, etc. I'm sure it's been mentioned.

  6. I've just started a brand new dedicated European Epoch server and I am looking for more players. As the server is new this is the perfect time to build your base! The player base so far is mostly Norwegians, Finns, Brits, Germans and a couple Americans(even if it's an EU server). The server is called "Death Jesters" and you can find us at: 93.186.202.232:2302 We have: -Indestructible bases. -Animated crash sites. -AI missions. -Trader safe zones. -Working antihacks. -Custom buildings. -Good server performance (dedicated server with SSD). -Active adult admins (30+ years old). -Auto refuel vehicles. -Take clothes from corpses. -Database backups every 30 minutes with the possibility of a rollback if a major script kiddy attack or other major incident occurs. -Self blood bag. -Veteran difficulty. -Always daylight (mostly because of our US players, may be subject to change if the majority wishes so). -500+ vehicles. I am open to suggestions for changes from our players and I am still adding some mods, trader customizations and doing performance tweaks. If we get enough players there will be created a Whitelisted server as well. Our rules: -No combat logging. -No griefing in or right outside trader zones. -No griefing with buildables (building in hospital entrance etc). -No cheating (duh). -No admin abuse.
  7. Still got RamboJnr And Devour in your clan I see. Word of warning - both Devour and Rambo-Jr have been banned by battleeye (Rambo 2-3 times!) for hacking. Also most of their guys are allowed to abuse admin rights on their server teleporting/repairing vehicles etc .... strongly advise giving these guys a wide birth if you are looking for a good server... Edit Slander and abuse TREEHOUSE GAMING? Its not slander when it's true - are you saying Devour and Rambo, two of your senior clan members, have not received Batteye bans? If you have a complaint about my heads up to the decent gamers here, I suggest you make it to the forum moderators. I feel it's important to know when a clan is knowingly accepting Batteleye banned players as admins and also having issues with players abusing admin powers. We already have our fair share of nuggets on this community, we don't need any more.
  8. UPDATE TIME!!! The Sanctum is proud to be running Epoch! Imagine this great mod on a huge map such as Taviana! Check out how Epoch should really be played, with custom weapons and vehicles! See if you can build a base that will withstand a bandit assault! Loads of fun to be had by filtering Sanctum of Chaos!!!

I'm not so attached to the realism in that regard, afterall gear is already unreal as it is; I can fit two car tires and two 20L Jerry cans in my backpack and if I leave anything in my tent or car for longer than a week it vaporises. These fictions serve a purpose for gameplay mechanics in the same way that item degredation will so I'm not opposed to item degredation. The biggest problem here is the server hopping, that can be dealt with and there's already been some talk about doing so. The other issue, which is related, is playing on empty servers: you can't place minimum player limits on servers as this makes tents and vehicles inaccessible. One possible solution would be to make loot very scarce and zombie numbers higher on servers with less than say 20 people - that may or may not be workable though as I believe all loot and zombies will spawn on server start in the SA. I agree that in the interest of people actually playing the game rather than finding loopholes some kind of limitation should be placed on looting from empty servers.

ADDED : wind and gust for realistic environment our high capacity server is making playing dayz fun again, 0 lag since dag 1 TODO LIST : adding fedex truck mission, creating oilrig platforms closer to the shore (working ones) adding another small town, adding a sea base for high military loot and vehicles (merlin, apc ect) editing and making the lypestock arena actually a goto place think of military and medic items since the fallout and pandamic outbreaks that has been a safe area think of tents ect

  14. This is a challenging Epoch server for those who want to fear both other players and the roaming AI, which are powered by DZAI and customized by us. No immaturity in side and no blowing up locked cars in secure bases. Any would-be bandits will earn recognition for not glitching, (attempting) hacking or breaking the rules just stated. Thanks!   16. New Namalsk server (located in the U.S.) started 11/14/13. We are looking for groups or clans to setup bases and establish there factions on the map. Vehicles have been reduced so we wont be tripping over Humvees and SUVs like we were in a used car lot. If you are going to build a base then hide in it then this is not the server for you. PM me to talk about the other server rules and to get whitelisted.

The Project has moved on The Project Royal team is now recruiting clans for its clan war server, we would like to be able to have a mix of bandit clans and maybe one or two neutral / independent groups to make things on the server interesting. at the time of me making this post we have one large group *Hero Military Sim Group*, One medium sized group *Bandit Casual Clan* and 2 small teams running around on the server, The server is also open to public players to keep game play interesting. and most of the players on this server are in the US time zone. We do not run scripts like self bloodbag, auto refuel, Missions, AI-Bots. we find it to be way to easy, cheap and well to much like wasteland, we will be adding in scripts in the future e.g Tow & Lift for some vehicles like the Ch-47 and Urals / Tow Trucks. We are trying to make dayz how dayz should be Hard, Unforgiving and Brutal. We do offer groups that are coming in to be able to have their own custom skin for their unit this is optional as not all groups would like to be identified in a fight. but for groups that do, you can have almost any skin you want from A2 & A2 OA.     what happen if SA sucks?

    True but you can't really overhype something that is already out. If he is just reworking the mod with better everything and more survival then nothing can really go wrong except melee. Seeing as that's going to be a big part of the game it better work and well. If it feels like the mod people are going to be dissappointed. Unless you're uninformed expecting to have vehicles and a load of guns from day one then you're over hyping.

  25. But for the love of god give us another update so we know you all haven't been taken prisoner in the rape camp at the top of green mountain. Edit: ok well I guess there wasn't enough substance in the post so I added more. What do you think they are working on in the SA that is keeping them hung up on releasing the alpha? Or is it they want to add more, like perhaps tents or vehicles?
