  1. If this is true, then it's really good! I don't want to see 15 helicopters be it civilian or military, hovering above, killing the apocalypse feeling. Cars, bicycles, dirtbikes = YES. Helicopters, tanks, armored vehicles = NO. Play Arma 3 instead, if you want a big arsenal.

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

I really hope they won't add helicopters. Actually even vehicles are problematic since the map looks already small to anyone who played more than 50 hours in this game. Bicycles is a good thing but I wouldn't want to see any vehicles and especialy helicopters in this tiny map. There is no such thing as end gear when you die from one or two shots and lose everything. The only thing that matters is probably persistent backpacks/tents. That's it.

Ahh yes I remember some private hives had extra helis (also remember a bonus ground vehicle or 2 for them, like the police car)....but still said vanilla in description. They are hard to find, but you can find true vanilla servers still that don't use the extra private hive vehicles :)

You can call me an abusive douchebag all you want. There's clearly nothing anyone is going to say that is going to change your mind. You want helicopters in the game. That's fine. Just don't join the server I'm a regular on, because my squad will have the helicopters and we will be abusive douchebags with them. We'll fly all over the map scooping up all of the unique loot spawns (heli-crashes).. We'll be the first ones to loot NWAF an whatever other high value military loot spots. We'll hunt down your camps and we'll destroy any vehicles you manage to obtain. Why? Because we're douchebags? No.. but because we're protecting our camp. If there are no vehicles on the map then nobody can find our camp. Our camp will be the biggest and the best on the server, and nobody will be able to touch it because we'll have eliminated any possible way for you to reach our camp other than by running 10k on foot. Think you're going to shoot me down? Think again. I log on in the middle of the night while you sleep, because I work nights.. I'll fly around with my night vision and raid the entire map while you sleep, then happily park my helicopter back in my protected base, so you have no idea what happened to your vehicle or your camps, or who did it.. This sounds fun to you? This sounds like you have a way to counter-play what I'm doing? Okay! Bring them on. I'd like to see you try it. Even if I do log on during the day on the weekends, you won't shoot me down. Know how many times I've been shot down on Vanilla? ZERO.. not ever. And I've flown over Elektro and cleared out sniper hill a few dozen times with door gunners. We get it! You love Heli's and you want them in the game! Cool! I love heli's too! Just don't come crying on the forums when people are "abusive douchebags" with something that you want in the game.

    The Soviet Connection.

I don't actually, I was merely emphasising the need for greater focus on soviet vehicles. Of course it would have imported vehicles, Chernarus was a democracy and a free market. However, they should be much, much rarer than the soviet rustbuckets. As I have aforementioned, Chernarus is a rather poor state, with most of the populous relying on agriculture. They mostly would not be able to afford imports, and, considering the kind of place it is, most young people would move to get an education, eliminating the demand for exclusive import cars, and since an older population would remain, they would already have grown up making do with what they had, so they wouldn't need much change in vehicles that were already left behind after its independence from the Soviet Union. This is evident in the kind of vehicles they made for Chernarus in Arma 2. As for the foreign intervention, yes it is likely they left a lot of equipment behind if they were to abandon Chernarus to fight the global epidemic, however, it is likely they would destroy a lot of it to avoid enemy capture, and what did remain would have quickly been scattered all over Chernarus and out by remaining militias and panicking civilians. But what used to belong to the Chernarus military and police forces, mostly Kalashnikovs and Russian shotguns, would still be found in police stations and military bases, because, where did they have to go? The soldiers and officers probably manned their posts until infected or killed off by armed militias. But in the end everyone fuckin died so who gives a shit >:C
  6. Thanks, Musty gaming for hosting some Epoch servers. I have been getting my feet wet with this version of Dayz and it reinvigorated a lot of aspects of the game for me. That being said, all of the Musty gaming Epoch servers are over 100 ping for me, and the one US I considered playing on shows consistently in then 80-90 range. Not ideal, but I thought it would help to start out on servers with a bit of community. Of course, as usual, I spawned at the coast. After rummaging around near the Elektro power station and Firehouse, I had a couple of weapons and was ready to see what Epoch offered past the vanilla Dayz experience which is all I had played up until that moment. I ended up making a catastrophic series of errors and I find the story more than amusing. I don't know how many times I've died in just a few hours of play... Running up the hill near the power station, I found an 'old motorbike' and hopped on, tearing off at speed, wind flying through my... blue cap... Hands held out in a semblance of an unmoving death grip on the gyrating handlebars. Now you might think that riding this motorbike would lead to my demise, but I did quite well. Using the stick on my G13 game pad thing, I could moderate my speed better than using the 'W' key, which usually resulted in top speed or 0 and nothing in between. I rode the bike north and found a succession of fun stuff, stopping at markets and so forth and filling up my (spawn provided) Alice backpack. Then something funny happened. I was heading toward the large settlement/trader town marked on my (spawn provided), map and as I crest a hill I find... A nice looking soviet style heli. I have no idea which kind it was, but back in the day I would log hours in arma just to practice flying. Back then It paid off when I'd occasionally find someone's fixed up heli "hidden" in a clearing way up north. I'd tool around in it, enjoying the sense of flight and freedom, buzz some towns and hopefully return the chopper back where I found it. This time would be a little different... Hopping from my trusty old motorbike steed, I jumped into the unlocked heli. The board was a mess of orange and yellow indicators. I can't remember what any of them mean from a long time ago, but Q works and we're lifting off. Yeah. One of those bad indicators was I think the tail rotor. I could see the tail rotor NOT turning in third person. I could fly but boy was it erratic. Taking off in that heli was a big mistake. Either because of my flying rustiness or something broken on the heli, it tended to spin and flying was a very inexact, stomach churning experience with a lot of uncontrolled rotation until flying fairly fast and leaning into it. Worrying about landing, I headed toward the settlement in mechanically unsound style. The landing was heart-stopping but I was determined not to die from crashing. And I made it!! About 700 meters from my destination. I started hoofing it and a couple zeds dropped in on my trail. That was ok. I wanted to see what would happen if they followed me to the settlement. Reaching the settlement, I spied some NPCs, the first I had seen in Dayz. There was also a player there, dressed in a ghillie suit. I ignored all that for the moment to see what the zeds would do as 'safe area- god mode enabled' appeared on my screen. The zombies stopped at the periphery, impotently shrieking at me. I hate that noise, so a couple headshots later, I turned about. The ghillie suit guy seemed to be trying to get my attention, but I couldn't get a response on direct voice. Maybe it's me; I haven't had the opportunity to communicate with other players in weeks, save through intracranial bulletgrams. We did the old Q-E things eventually (pressing F1 resulted in a too fast to read message about F1 being disabled on the server for some reason). The other guy had a shiny black SUV with a pop up roof turret. Car Wars, anyone? And he was obviously transacting goods from the car to the vendors. I checked out the vendors then heard a scary sound. Helicopter incoming. Well, it thought, someone's found the heli I left. I wonder if they will crash it into this settlement and then god mode will be really tested? Turns out they either flew better than me, had a different heli or fixed the one I found. They somehow attached to the SUV and off it went. Alarmed, I thought they'd somehow hijacked my fellow shopper's pimped ride. Nope. Apparently these guys were working together. I bought a new 'old motobike' as I liked the aesthetic and headed out. And stopped fifty meters away. I'd somehow sold both of my maps and now had none. So I schlepped back to the vendors. I'd told the other guys on inquiry in side chat (typed) that it was my first day. They were very nice and when I returned, they gave me 7 gold!! (Thanks steelseries!, sorry I wasted it). I had put my backpack and some stuff on my motorbike, intending to buy a new pack but they were prohibitively expensive. I did, however, but a small pickup with a battered camper shell on the back. There were no previews of vehicle appearances on the vendors, but this vehicle, too, had a ramshackle post apocalyptic aesthetic that I liked. Driving out to my bike, I realized I should sell the bike back. Big Mistake #2. (Flying the heli was my first; I was lucky to get out of that one alive but it was very fun) sold the bike back, headed for the truck and stopped. Shit, my backpack was on that moto. It was now gone. Nothing but to move on. I started roving the countryside in Dayz style. Driving on and off road in my little truck, checking barns and such for gear. This is where things take the worst turn and my inability to play with any kind of brains comes out. Pulling up to the gas station south of Berezino, I suddenly get a message on screen, and disconnected. Disconnected for ping over 1500. 1500?? I wasn't even redlinked!! Not even yellow!! I'm a little panicked at this point. I had worked out how to lock and unlock the truck but now it's just sitting there... Maybe.... Past experience with vehicles made me believe that hive updates probably resulted in the truck being in one place and me in another. I'd have to retrace my steps to find it, just like the old days. Nope. Dead wrong. I reconnected with an 88 ping and.... Crunch.... Snap.... I'm dead. Reappeared exactly where I disconnected! Yeah! Inside my truck! Yeah! Literally inside my truck... Like... Interwoven.... So I'm Dead..shit. Respawned.... Way the hell down south. I start running towards my stuff, hoping to find another vehicle to help me out. That thought process was another dumb mistake. I ran past Otmel and it's obviously...different from what I remember. I notice a bridge of sorts and ruined stuff jumbled on the island. Maybe there's a boat? I should check It out. Big mistake. There are these little monument stones. I ignore them even though I damn well know what a radiation symbol looks like. Whoever designed that Otmel additional stuff was a diabolical genius or certified asshole. No loot but plenty of places to look. A couple zeds. No big deal there. Then I get the message '30 minutes to server restart'. I know. I KNOW that my truck will be there, but what about the corpse/loot with the keys?? Shit. Well, I run around the barrier to the back of the island and there's a smaller island with some tents and a masted radar trailer in the middling distance. Maybe.... Find a PBX. Find a PBX. That gas station is practically on shore! Ok the walkway is one of those narrow wooden affairs with the posts at intervals on either side. Very long. A tiny drop at the end. Weapon crates. Empty. Tents with bunks. Empty. Radar trailer. No gear. Shit. Nothing. Get outta here, Dis. Yeah. The walkway is set up in such a way that it cannot be used to get back. You can't vault up onto it. Stuck, I start "running" in thigh deep water alongside... Until the water gets too deep. The clock is ticking and I'm.... Swimming... In that realistically paced way that Dayz does it. But... But at least I didn't drop my meager gear. But the restart. Crap.. I hit the road running.. And cough. Cough. Yep, the radiation has made me sick. Duh. And all for naught. Check the debug monitor. Yep, dropping by threes but still over 11k. It's ok, I tell myself, you got this. Running running running. Skalisty island is marked on the map as a bandit haven. Running, coughing. 15 minutes to server restart. I'm running north now, heedless, along the road. My thirst indicator is flashing, too, and there's a tail of how many zeds behind me? I'm beginning to worry how I will lose them fast enough to get my gear back in order and stuff when I get "server restart in 5 minutes. Disconnect now to save your gear". Well now it's just panic on the verge of giving up. I manage to lose all but one of the zeds. I was hoping to lose him crossing the trestle bridge south of the gas station. Somehow the zeds don't walk on the bridge. They have to path along the sidewalk to a point and then they can walk onto it if, say you're standing in the centre. But if you run across and then try to break LOS with the bushes nearby... Sometimes. I see my truck coming up. I might make it!! Desperate, I spin around, and fire at the zombie and manage to drop him fairly quickly. Shit. Of course, my tombstone is UNDER the truck. It's unlocked. I hop in. How much time left?? Pull forward, engine off, get out. Grab the tombstone. Grab what I can, start with keys. I get my keys!!! TRIUMP..... Disconnected. Wait. Wait. Server restart. Reconnect. No keys in inventory. Tombstone cleaned up in server restart. Truck now locked.... Forever, I guess. And I'm sick from the radiation. Super. I head north and fall off a ladder. This is nice. Respawn as a zombie? Yep. I'm Jamie Hyneman complete with chapeau. I run around a bit. I have two options. 'Summon horde' and 'night vision' we'll summon horde just makes a shrieky groaning noise. I guess if other zeds hear it they come running. Sounds about right. Night vision.. Well it's daytime, so bad on me. Night vision turns the screen completely red win a couple of oddish washed out barely discernible shapes... And no way to turn it off. Disconnect. Reconnect as zombie. Well, this is not fun. I can't even swipe or attack or anything. Maybe it's a feature that's not complete. This IS Dayz. I run to a watertank and jump off. Respawn way down on the west end of the coast, west of Cherno. I beeline to Balota and poke around there, finally finding... An M24 desert and 2 Gps! I could sell them... And.... And... Yes!! I head to the nearest caravan and... Wrong vendors. Oh well. Then I see it. Abandoned gold mine. Abandoned gold mine. Who wouldn't want to check THAT out. Now most of you are probably GOOD players. Alarm bells would be going off in your head. Maybe you've even read about some of the features in Epoch. Not of' Disgraced. I crouch-run up and see a few zombies... And a giant rock construction thing. I get it, I think. Can't really build underground. So it's above ground... Yep, here I go, taking a sniper rifle into a gold mine. Shouldn't that be some kind of expression for stupid behaviour? Well this was stupid. With a SNIPER rifle, what's the best approach. I can tell you, it's NOT stealth in between the buildings. I'm avoiding the zombies and thoroughly enjoying this new area, wondering what I might find when..... Zipzipzipzip high velocity rounds. You are dead. What the??? The only guy on is....the guy who gave me that gold yesterday... What the actual fuck?? He shot me!!! I guess it's "friendly at the settlement, bandits at the gold mine" well fine. Jerk. I try to raise him on the side chat via text but no response. Oh, ignoring me, eh. Respawn. Not too far away. Maybe I can sneak in and get my pack... Riiiiiiight.... I do. I get pretty close... Like I SHOULD have done earlier. From a further away hillside. Not careful enough, as it turns out, but I've rationalized. That wasn't my old pal steelseries. Sorry for impugning your good name. It was a bandit bot. Of course. They have messages about bandits... And camps and stuff. Ok, distant approach. Damn, wish I had that M24 now. Well, the bot didn't wish. In addition to his high powered whatever speed shooting machine gun, he has his OWN sniper rifle. Crack. Crack. I'm down and I don't even see him. Broken bone indicator. Bleeding. I spot the bot running in the distance and he's.... Running away? I bandage and start crawling. If I can.... just.... get that gear. Get patched up. It will be slow. Maybe find morphine. Yeah, it's doable. Don't give up now! Crawling. I make it to the backpack! Then I press gear and... Spotted by a fucking zed. Then more. Crawl into a pine tree but for what. Fuck it. I go down, pistol blazing. I made it into the bandit camp on my next iteration and even killed one with my pistol after a lot of crawling. But I got radiation sickness again... And the second bandit got me. So, here is your example of how not to play Dayz. Damn, it was fun, though.... Tl;dr boring story, Disgraced is a crappy player Edit: cleanup. I stink at typing, too. Damned autocorrect.
  7. yeah shouts for breaking point,. running at a stable 60 FPS with hordes of zombies, a larger map than chernarus, and loot/vehicles/tents/ loot respawn + hunting. Made by modders and it is at this standard after a few months development. Come on Standalone.. catch up!
  8. If they roll out the new audio in one big patch, say with vehicles as well. - We got a whole new ballgame.

    Advertising for big money

To be honest, I don't know how Bohemia hasn't been sued by large corporations for using the obvious likenesses of licensed products. The vehicles particularly come to mind when I say this. They use licensed vehicles but play on the brand names. For example, instead of Toyota there is Coyota which is an exact replica of a Toyota pickup except for the name on the tailgate. There is Datsun pickups that say Sundat on the tailgate, etc. To me this is dangerous territory for the developers unless there is some sort of permission by the companies they are indirectly portraying.

This is why we should use ArmA III's Engine.

ARMA 3 singleplayer runs very well for me on my rig, and, for the most part, has since it was in alpha. I create my own missions, and, even in a resource-hog town like Kavala, I'm able to run a squad of 5 through a gauntlet of enemy AI, civilians, and civilian vehicles (the latter two powered by TPW's excellent immersion mods) and still get 40-50 FPS with all settings maxed. As for online, I also occasionally play Breaking Point, and, so long as there aren't more than 30 players on a server, I get around 30-40 FPS in "cities", 50+ in the wild (but I do have to drop my draw distance and object detail a bit). It's a good engine with gorgeous graphics and, initially, I was disappointed that DayZ wasn't developed on it. That being said, I don't think I'd get the same kind of performance on a Chernarus modeled in ARMA 3. Chernarus is much more colorful and detailed than Altis (which, while beautiful, isn't nearly as vibrant or diverse), so I can't help but think that much of the good performance I get from ARMA 3 comes from the fact that Altis and Stratis consist mostly of wide open, fairly featureless terrain and small, monotone buildings. Throw a lot of trees, colorful houses, large buildings, zombies, loot, AND players in there, and I fear the ARMA III engine just wouldn't cut it. For comparison's sake, try using some of the custom maps made for ARMA III. Admittedly, these aren't "optimized" for the game, but will give you an idea how ARMA III's engine deals with lots of foliage. One map - a really cool Pacific island map modeled after the Diaoyudao Islands - is loaded with palm trees and brush, and, once you step foot into it, your FPS drops dramatically. I've created missions on there, with a small coastal military base and a few shanty towns in the hills, and, with only 50 or so AI enemies (given very basic "orders" like patrol, or guard), the game ran like a slideshow. As it is now, DayZ is one of the most graphically pleasing games I've ever played. The weather effects, clouds, sunsets, god rays, etc make it one of those games that I often log onto JUST to be in the world and take it all in. To be honest, I'm actually shocked by how good it looks considering the engine they used, and, while it obviously needs tweaking, if Rocket's suggested performance increases offer even a 10 FPS boost in cities, I'll be more than happy that they stuck with this engine.

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

I hope they do get added in but are hard to maintain, (like needing other vehicles and a squad just to fix it) would also like to see the Mi 2 or Ka 26 be the helicopters added. Though ultralight/light fix wing aircraft should be more common then the helicopters. I just want a quicksilver ;)
  12. pillock

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

I'd prefer it if there' wasn't a fixed number of anything - vehicles especially. If you know there's only one per server, and then you see it being used by someone else, you aren't going to keep looking for your own one. It'd be better if there was some random element to it (within some limitations).

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

Having helicopters (and vehicles as a whole) were a major part of the mod. Having spent a long time getting parts for a vehicle, the satisfaction of fixing a huey was incredible for me and my squad. If there are aircraft, make their maintenance realistic. I also think fueling should be considered more - maybe the petrol stations could have a random amount of fuel, or some with none at all. It would make players ration how they use vehicles.
  14. I've personally been playing DayZ since the mod came out. I got my IRL friend to play the mod and we put a few hundred hours into it. Then he ends up buying the SA which ends up in 2 of my other friends buying the game. They always had no hope for the game. But for the past 3 days they've been playing it for 6-8 hours a day. They're looking forward to it being an outstanding game and it has a ton of potential, but right now it's just "okay". Couple things they've been saying 1 - Smooth out the inventory system. 2 - Fix zombies through walls 3 - Some sort of vehicles 4 - Re-spawning loot. They aren't too fond of gearing up on empty servers. 5 - loot actually spawning in some of the little buildings if not all buildings. But in the end it's all going to be fixed. I personally think certain guns need to be fairly common, mainly just .22's so fresh spawns aren't so defenseless against geared players. Maybe even a pellet gun? Would work great for hunting small rodents. Me and my 3 irl friends hope the best for this game. If it turns out to have the content that the mod did with the smoothness of the SA It'll be fairly outstanding.

With much respect, I still don't see the hoarding as a problem. Yeah, servers go dry with vehicles from the hiding. People like me and mine enjoy hunting those bases down. We spent about a month on a server hunting down a base against a much larger rival group, used their flight patterns and areas of activity to eventually single them out. At first we found they were flying way out of their way and then moving to the target to misdirect, but as we got closer we found the base through proper tracking. Eventually three of us made a coordinated plan to infiltrate their base. One came in from the east, another the west, and I from the south. I'm pretty sure I crawled for at least an hour before getting in visual range of the base. One of my buddies lost his cool and opened fire on one of them (around 5 enemies there), which not only alterted them (obviously) but got him shot down immediatly. At that point the plan was sprung, so I ran in, jumped in a chopper to steal it, they broke something on the heli with their gunfire and I lost control crashing it into a few of their cars. My last buddy was position near the "exit" of the base and took out a couple of them leaving in cars until he too was gunned down. In the end all died on both sides except 2 (enemy) but about 90% of their stash of vehics was destroyed or heavily damaged. Was fun times. (was going to link screens, but steam is being slow, so this is just the ARMA II gallery. They're somewhere in there.) http://steamcommunity.com/id/Airfell/screenshots/?appid=33930&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall The moral here is that this is DayZ, people will horde anything they can, but people will find anything that is hidden... eventually. Its the most epic version of hide and go seek.

Please note this logic means there should be tanks, APCs, and other armoured fighting vehicles. But they should be a bitxh to operate and maintain.
  17. If they sort all the stability issues, and possibly force 1pp/find a well optimized way to increase foliage sprites for heli users then why not? used heli's a few times in the mod, every flight ended in desync followed by plunging into the ground, so yeah. Everyone complaining "but then people troll the coast!" get the fuck over it, get off the coast. Everyone saying "It's OP because then they can find all the camps on the map" that is true, and something the devs will need to consider, but just because it wasn't quite right in the mod doesn't mean they'll be haphazardly ported into the SA. Debug isn't a valid camping ground now, so the idea that you can horde all the vehicles in a wasteland is invalid. Hopefully every area will have traffic of some kind.
  18. Super_Duty

our map isnt "small" its not "balanced"

We'll get there, current exp. build appears to have slowed down the speed you run (fists up sprint). I'm all over the map, though mostly stay in the Northern half and it's a hike to move from the right coast Svet. to the West edge of the map if you're doing any rummaging in the towns, it will take you days to traverse. Once loot is more randomized and folks aren't just sprinting to known loot spots things will change dramatically. I have mixed feelings on adding vehicles at this point, though I will thoroughly enjoy the inferred quest of find parts to enable a vehicle. I can see a backpack full of spare parts to make repairs as the wheels fall of the wagon. There will need to be an associated risk with vehicles however. Yo, dudes, jump in my jeep, only to see the damn thing go up in flames...priceless. Omg...new skill set, mechanic/technician.
  19. Given the tools, there will always be people doing this. We had a four man team, played around bunches of shenanigans, but still scooped up any an all vehicles almost every day. When we were six strong, shit just stopped getting "reacquired" by it's previous owners because someone was usually around or would hunt them down. Before us, others did the same. It's just a power struggle and battle of attrition for control. Nothing that even constitutes cheating or abuse that an admin would even have right to kick/ban for. Playing well within the limits and scope of the game put before us.
  20. Etherimp

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

What is the counter-play to squads having helicopters? Admins shouldn't have to ban people or artificially destroy their goodies because they are using a viable and effective strategy that is emergent in the game... The game should provide a method of counter-play. So..Tell me.. What's the natural counter-play to a squad owning all the heli's and dominating everyone else with them? *edit* While not everybody would abuse helicopters, if you leave the potential there for abuse then abuse will happen, and it shouldn't be up to admins to control this. The counter-play should be within the game.. and with DayZ there is simply no counter to helicopters.. hence why I consider them "OP", and I use that term loosely. Keep in mind, we destroyed camps and vehicles, but we also used helicopters to help people. So don't make it out like every squad that has heli's is just a group of KOSing bandit assholes. I just know how it feels to be on both sides of the fence, and as much fun as I had in DayZ mod with heli's, I honestly don't think they're good (or necessary) for DayZ SA.
  21. Etherimp

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

There was no flaw in my logic. A single helicopter provides a single group the ability to horde, locate, or destroy all the vehicles and camps on the map in a very short period of time. Know what happens when a new player joins a server, and they spend 8 hours with friends gathering all the necessary resources to repair a vehicle and set up a few camps out in the woods, just to have it all destroyed that very same night by an established group on the server that has access to a helicopter? They don't come back. They just wasted 8 hours and achieved nothing. You don't know if a hacker found your base or if it was that pesky squad of helicopter owning assholes. What good is hiding anything in DayZ just to have it destroyed the very same night? If 1 group controls all of the helicopters, there is no way to retaliate against them. Unless you literally run across the entire map on foot and search every nook and cranny, odds are you would not find our base.. It would take you HOURS upon HOURS of searching with no guarantee of success.. Then even if you do find it, it would take you more hours to steal all of it, unless you have a large group.. If it's just you, the only thing you can do is destroy most of it and take ..what.. 1 heli? Then what? Then my group comes on the next night, repairs a respawned heli, then hunts down the heli you stole and restarts the process again. I know that WAS DayZ.. but I don't think that is what DayZ SHOULD be. Helicopters are "overpowered".. They create a large rift between the power of an established group and the power of a fresh spawn. Before you have helicopters, even a DMR sniper with night vision can be taken out by a clever player with a Winchester. If you have a vehicle (such as an offroad), you have some advantage in mobility.. The ability to search for heli-crashes and camps is increased, but not dramatically so.. With a Heli, however, you can do everything all in 1 night without issue and you can do it completely unchecked.

    I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

With Respect I find your logic to be flawed. What you're saying is that because players can be douchebags with a feature it shouldn't be in the game. Your own story proves my point. Your group was betrayed and the vehicles respawned. That IS DayZ.

Personally I hope they don't add heli's. My squad and I had all 4 heli's on a public hive vanilla server.. We also had 8-13 land vehicles at any given time.. (all of the offroad/military vehicles, and a few ATV's). Nobody could find our base, and nobody could touch us.. We ran the server for about 4 months before someone betrayed us from within and C4'd all of our stuff. When we were bored we could fly around the entire map in a night and destroy every other base and/or vehicle on the map. Nothing was safe from us. Fun for us in the moment, yes.. But in the big picture, I don't think heli's belong in DayZ.

Our Server You think you have what it takes to survive on our G2 server then think again, we made it a little more difficult so any survivor has to watch his back. Got my friends to buy DayZ.

Vehicles are coming sooner than that. At least low-speed vehicles. Bicycles are up first.
