Today I thought that I would like to hide and storage my food and things in a bush with other friends to prevent losing them and going loot more, but then I noticed that if I did that, the server could restart and I'd lose everything. Couldn't the server hosts say at least "Server will restart in 10 minutes"? Things you drop on the floor wont be safe if you don't know when the server will restart. Another thing that comes out from here is this: In a future you will be able to craft some defenses to protect your place (or that's what I've read around internet) and will be able to have a vehicle to hide in that base. With the server restart will all your work (defenses, loot stored, vehicles, other things that you can't hold with you in that moment) disappear? Thank you! :thumbsup:

German Version Hello people , as I have read , many of you have problems with the performance , and that despite good hardware. I im talking about people with the following or similar hardware : CPU i5 / i7 or comparableRam 8GB DDR3 or moreGPU Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 TI or AMD / ATI HD4850 Crossfire or HD5850 SingleNormally, one would come to expect quite a lot of power in such a hardware configuration. Unfortunately, you do not get what you expect (good performance from good hardware), no matter how much effort you put into it. It seems you CAN get an big improvement when changing the resolution to a negative scale. My observation is that this can not be traced to your hardware, but is due to a bug in Arma 2 graphics options menu Before I show you the " Archimedes method," as it was christened today on the server after a successful third-party verification, I would like to briefly tell you how I fond the Problem . Impatient just scroll up to the " Archimedes method" Foreword I had even severe performance problems in Arma II and DAYZ on several computers i configurated and administrate by myself, including a high-end gaming PC with i5 4670 + AMD R9 290 Tri -x OC (Technically an outstanding graphics card like all other games proofed ) , as well as various "Done PC 's" and gaming laptops . Certain settings in the graphics options have proven to show a minimal frame change, sometimes the game will run smoother with certain settings set at a higher level than at a lower level This is nothing new , Arma 2 is supposedly CPU Limited , poorly optimized and programmed suboptimal. A clear yes and no ! , D Some i7 users are supposed to be satisfied with Arma2 with just over 30fps, and since, they are already the envy of other ... It was not until I recently upgraded my own computer, and the performance was even worse , that i really investigated the error . There are several ways supposed to help or to influence the performance , some of them are: Shadows = Disabled or High / Very High (on normal they are calculated by the cpu according to Internet research)Arma2OA.Exe start parameters as - CPUCount, maxmem, winxpArma2OA.Exe startup parameter - malloc = tbb4malloc_biThere is certainly even more tips on the net but at this point that enough for now. Some of these performance -guides and alleged Boost 's have made the performance worse for me before i found out how to fix the overall performance. That's why I have them all removed , except for malloc = tbb4malloc_bi because it really brings a few frames . - noslpash and the other parameters for time saving can still be used . Archimedes method 1. Measurement: Before you perform the Archimedes method , I ask you to start Arma2OA and change visibility to 1000 and then run single player -> Scenarios -> Benchmark08 . Let this PLEASE go through completely and then write down the result . You may additionally like to use external tools to display the FPS directly ingame. Then Shut down Arma 2 . 2.Start parameter : Now please delete all parameters except those which serve to save time ( no-splash etc. ..) Then add -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi as startparameter. You can add or tweak them again after you finished with Step 4. Before we embark upon the settings id like to point out the following : To make it work , it is important first to follow all the steps EXACTLY. Make NO adjustments. You can adjust them again afterwards . 3. Settings: Now the most important part , because here is the root of our Problem. Starts Arma2OA.exe . Go to Options->Video Options->"Quality preference" and set it to very low. After you have done this, your 3D Resolution will be reduced/scaled, change it back to 100% Now adjust the settings manually to the following values you can see on the image. The "Quality Preference" setting jumps to " Very High " while you do so, dont worry about that. Do NOT touch the setting " Quality preferences" after you´ve set it to "Very Low" and it changed back to "Very High" by itself. Please keep in mind that your resolution is not necessarily 1920x1080. For safety, we now click ok and then quit Arma 2 4. measurement: Now we start Arma 2 again and complete the single player -> Scenarios -> Benchmark08 . Please write down the value again. I would ask you the direct comparison of results to be published here ! If everything went well you should have up to 100% more performance with better visual quality. if so try adding "Anti Aliasing"-> Low but "Atoc"->disabled and Run again, it should not affect your performance very much now. From this point you can add your Startparameters back to the Arma2OA.exe and see what brings you the most performance. For me it is -nosplash -nopause -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi -cpuCount=3 -maxMem=3012 Now you can change the Settings for "Shadows", "HDR", "Anti Aliasing", "Atoc" and "Post Processing" if you like. Be careful and do a Benchmark08-run each time you change ANY setting. Stop till your satisfied with the performance and visual quality of the Game 5. Result & variables : Depending on what is happening in each run of the Benchmark08 it sometimes runs a bit differently. For example more or less Vehicles/Explosions. My results: Before: ~ 25 - 30FPS After: ~ 57-64 FPS My Hardware : i5 [email protected] stock , 8GB Kingston 1600MHz CL9 HyperXBlue , 2 x AMD HD4850 512MB VRAM each , 24 " LCD, no SSD , Good cooling If you dont see any huge improvements , and your graphics card has more than 1x512mb (or 2x 512mb for Crossfire ) VRAM, set "Graphical preferences" to very low again. Try again from Step 3 but the Setting " Texture Memory" to "Default" this time. If that does not have the desired effect or may not apply to you because you dont have more than 1x 512 or 2x 512MB VRAM, start lowering each setting on its own starting with post processing then Object and Terrain detail and then Texture Quality. I've also set the LLC (Load Line Calibration)in my Bios to a level that does not have a high Vdrop, because that also gave extreme performance dips on hardware level in various Applications. The CPU seemed to get automaticly undervolted in load spikes resulting in terrible framedrops and realy bad/low GPU usage in Arma2. This stabilized the Framerate a lot, also adding 20% performance to the CPU-heavy Benchmark02. Your feedback is needed at this point. Conclusion This apparently is a bug in the Arma 2 graphics options menu . The setting "Quality preference" is the culprit ! Either it is a bug in the internal configuration file for Arma 2 or the setting " Quality Preference" changes things you can not see or change in the Options menu. I am furthermore not sure if this method results in the same performance increase every time but it has been confirmed by the only other person(at the time of writing) who has tested this The utilization of both the CPU and the GPU has now risen markedly. I am not sure if this works for Standalone and/or Arma 3. Feel free to try it out, the Setting is called "Overall Quality" in DayZ Standalone. Good Luck! I don't quite understand why people are talking about "cooking pots" as if it was something despicable. I understand and accept that this kind of feature is not satisfying to anybody, but to me this is a GREAT improvement. The reason because I support this game is not pvp, weapons or vehicles, but the survival part of the game. Living in the woods, hunting animals, cooking, fishing, building shelter, learning navigation, carefully approaching people in the hope to find friends, crafting things from natural resources others may have not the time for, sharing, looking foward to the new sounds they add at some stage of the development process (sound is SO important!)... And because Dayz is not developing as you wish in every single moment it doesn't mean its going down a bad path. Different people play Dayz for different reasons and I call improvements where you might call it a waste of time. When you people talking about cooking as if it was silly I feel personally offended because this is MY Dayz you are talking about. -

the simple answer is the project took too long to get to where it is now its two years too late now. what erks me i understand how the games are made and the time of development but its just you see mods like altis and breaking point doing what dayz sa are doing and should of done and have literally noone working on them but are still in a better state. not only this you look on server lists to find cracked servers with vehicles on since dayz one. even pirates have better content than us paying our way :rolleyes: work rate is sloppy, not good enough. i love dayz some of the best fun ive ever had in games but the way its progressing and being done is quite frankly a joke. i redownloaded the mod the other day just to see what had advanced and you know my first thought was ? why even make SA ? you know the answer MONEY ! that is the only reason. nothing really has advanced nothing is really better than anything which is available for free. -
Here is another idea. Power Plant. Where do these wire towers lead? Where does Chernarus get it's power from? The area would be large enough to hold decent loot while a perfect spot for bandits. The loot could include some low-tier military loot (nothing extremely special), good clothing, tools, backpacks and equipment as well as some food, water and a high probability for vehicles or parts.

16/03/2014 Vehicle spawn changes - Eberteby created 90 new vehicle spawn points last night and is adding more in future. I have increased the maximum number of vehicles and tweaked the min/max numbers for some vehicles. 17/03/2014 Loot table tweaks - Radios are now twice as common in barracks, they also have a chance to spawn at general military locations (firestations, military tents). I want to see people actually using these not hoarding them! -

I really love how the game looks and was excited when I first got it. There are little issues such as vehicles and chat that I want to see implemented. I am not too hard to please so I just want an enjoyable experience without hacks and people telling me how the game should be or how we all should play it. I play this game because I love the concept, the uncertainty, and the good times I have with people I know and complete strangers. You never know what to expect from one encounter to the next. Your sig basically says it all. I am an avid Xbox Live player and I barely touch it anymore. There has been no other game that gives me the feeling that DayZ does... -
This is posted from the thread I made in the Gallery section. It seems this is more active and would be seen more here. (Please don't cry about it. If you don't like it, move on and ignore it.) I make videos on youtube. My quality for DayZ is pretty good (can be improved through modifying some things post-production). I think making a DayZ Machinima would be pretty epic. I have a few IRL friends that would be involved, and I'd be looking for people here that would like to participate also. Don't expect compensation please. I make ~$50 a month off youtube. If the series managed to take off, then I'd suggest future projects in which compensation might be possible. As for now, you'd just be in it to be a part of it. DayZ has so many Machinima openings. It's still being updated and when vehicles are introduced, that would greatly increase the tools we have. Also, private servers. It's just a thought for now. You can find the custom areas of that map at kamenka, Cherno, NW airfield, NE airfield, and stary trader center.Vehicles are all over the map and we have medium strength armed vehicles such as BTR's, Jackals, and etc. (no tanks, attack helicopters, or jets). Missions vary from weapon caches, NATO weapon caches, bandit medical outpost, medical outpost, Plane cargo drops and crashes, and many others. We plan to add many more cities and military like areas around the map to create a more interesting Chernarus experience. With a toolbox on spawn you are able to get going right away with the toolbox to bike script. The load out consists of a G17, cooked meat, water bottle, painkillers and morphine, toolbox, map, hatchet, and flashlight. It's easy to gear up and get going which makes for a more enjoyable experience Spread the word and help us get this server started! No plot pole required for building. You can buy a evac chopper for your base that will pick you up off the coast or wherever you happen to be. Then learn things. And then execute said things in-game. In real life, a man could know HOW to chop down a tree... He wouldn't be restricted from it because he isn't level 20. End-game will be added in the future. It will range from base-building to vehicles, no need to turn this game into some choppy, linear progression arcade system. People make their own progress.

...that Dean was saying helicopters shouldn't be in DayZ. I mean, it is his game (at least until the end of the year) and he can push it in any particular direction, but what would DayZ be with out helicopters? They are the end game. They create perilous parts runs around the map in vehicles, which have cause some of the most awesome DayZ moments I have ever experienced. And, when you do get it up in the air, that feeling of power is pretty damn addicting haha. Conclusion: I really hope that this is just a rumour and not the truth.

I hope they don't put any vehicles in the game...bicycles maybe but nothing else. With any vehicle going between point A to point B is meaningless. It's just a quick fix for those that don't want to waste time having to survive from point A to point B by running. I hear people bitchin' about how small the map is and at the same time asking when the vehicles will be put in. That's rather an oxymoron statement. Small and need vehicles. They're bitchin' about the size of the map so the map gets larger so vehicles can be put into the game. Ask yourself.....why do you want the vehicles in the game? Be honest with yourself.. This will turn into a clan base game that if there's an issue clan members can be at a spot within' a couple of minutes instead of taking 30 minutes to run to the location. OR a group of players will get into a car and cruise around cutting new spawns down just for the kicks. My vote is no to any gas powered vehicles whether on the ground or in the air, we have enough silly crap going on in the game already. -

I hope they don't bring vehicles into this game. It's just a quick fix "drug" for those who want to do stupid crap in a game with vehicles but then after the damage is done to the rest of the players (those having to put up with the nonsense) it'll only turn this game into another trash game. If they want vehicles so bad...why aren't they still playing Mod and just stick with it? Nope......not good enough, they want to come over to an alpha game and demand vehicles be put in it so they can play it for a few months and get bored with it and then move on again. -

From what I've seen vehicles tend to be a tad volatile when exposed to bullets. But for those Dayz survivors enjoying their golden years, I think the mobile home/shipping container concept provides a wonderful opportunity to hit the open roads and see all the sights Chernaurus has to offer before spiralling into the depths of dementia and diapers.

Looking for a great Epoch Server for our Clan.

Well UAS was hopefully looking to find a great Epoch server with the following: 5-30 Players on Usually. Great FPS. Hosted Around North America. Great Admins and Mods willing to help at any time. Admins active on the server. Teamspeak if possible. Griefing/Raiding is Allowed. Must have scripts like, SelfBloodbag, Tow/Lift, Ai missions Ikea truck MV-22 Etc, and many more. 300+ Vehicles and As much heli's. If possible traders that sell building supplies Walls, Locked doors. Also one of the things we've noticed is Admins on many servers target our base because it's a clan and we raid other bases. So if the Admins could supply us with building supplies just to get started that would be great. If possible More Barracks and if the server needs an Admin that's great. Just give us the IP and I will check it hopefully out tonight. Join UAS for the DayZ Epoch mod at TS - 176.31.103.99 16+. UAS Consists of about 20 Members on Daily playing DayZ Epoch. -
Player movement is limited at the moment because of the lack of features. Rest assured OP, when they introduce vehicles and base-building etc, there will be a hell of a change in the way people use the map.

An idea to add more realism but also more flexibility to inventory storage and movement. Folks already wondering about the engine block fits in a backpack problem in regard to vehicles/parts in SA. Similar to the concept that every item is defined by a required number of slots to store, every object also might be defined by the minimum and maximum number of players that can simultaneously hold in hand. I could foresee, for example, certain car parts that could be carried by one individual with both hands with some difficulty but also carried by two individuals much more easily. So sharing the work means the player walks faster, expends less energy and has potentially a free hand for a pistol. Certain items like an engine block might require a minimum of 6 hands (3 players all lifting) to carry said object. All this is countered by wheeled carts, wheelbarrows, kid wagons like radio flyer, etc. How bout human and horse powered wheeled carts. These are options for lone players who need some way to transport large items that won't fit in a backpack or in some cases are simply too heavy to carry. Further example on this idea. Dean showed in a vid the beginnings of storage with refrigerator. Well what if you desired to relocate that fridge from let's say one house to another one in town? Well you'd have to drag that thing over there. You couldn't put that in your backpack. So in this case a large refrigerator might require a minimum of four hands and a max of eight. Now players have almost irl options for transport. Two players could carry using all their hands. They might walk slowly. Or four players could carry with only hand so all four can remained armed in free hand. They might walk almost full speed. Another combo is four players carrying with all their hands. A refrigerator being carried in this last way would allow players to walk at full speed. I think it would be neat if somehow the left and right hand were separated, from a functionality standpoint, so that multiple players can carry a large item while having a free hand. The idea came to me from an image I had of two survivors carrying, one on each side, an Igloo brand cooler full of meat and soda while brandishing pistols in their free hands. I also thought this could work well if craftable stretcher/gurneys get done. Stretcher=3 shirts, duct tape, sewing kit and wood? But then we come back to the question of how exactly do players carry the stretcher. Once again, this is a minimum of four hands and a max of four hands. However 2, 3 and 4 people can carry a stretcher. 2 people using all their hands. 3 people where one player uses both hands and two players use one hand. And finally four players all using one hand so that pistol, etc. can be equipped in free hand.

gotta agree. i've played dayz for 2 weeks and already lost interest (never played the mod or any other zombie shooter). right now, it's just "gear up and go to deathmatch", kinda boring but sorry that's how it is. watching vids about the mod actually makes me sad, there are more guns, vehicles, gear, base building, etc. just much more stuff to do. meanwhile a patch for standalone takes +2 weeks to add cooking....whopdeedoo! if this wasn't reality, people could consider this to be a joke really honestly, if standalone hasn't at least all the stuff the mod offers in half a year, i don't have much hope anymore. don't be surprised when you see the headline "hall sold dayz to bigger studio xyz, leaves bohemia as of now" soon. with the slow and faulty progress on things, i'd say standalone has started to grow into something a little indie studio around dean can't properly handle anymore that's only my view on things. of course i'll be attacked by forumers in a second with "omg it's alpha!" "you shouldn't have bought it then" and "gtfo spoilt brag omg" -

Will DayZ SA die out to Mods just like the Mod did?

I preferred Vanilla mod, but a lot of my buddies started playing Origins / Epoch so I joined them. Could barely find a Vanilla server towards the end of the mod when SA hit. Now they are all expecting SA to feature all the stuff from the mods, and they act like it isn't Dayz without safes full of weapons, castles, and infinite vehicles. Its kind of sad. I hope mods don't take over.
