    Alternator Belts for Vehicles

    Hey all 👋 Now that the vehicles are on a good journey to being fixed, I propose to add another (optional!) component to cars. My idea is that vehicles will require an alternator belt if you want the battery to be charged. In real life the cooling pump is also connected on some cars so realistically the car would overheat without one, but I feel that would be too much. My idea is simply that if you do not have an alternator belt, your battery will slowly drain from simply having the car turned on -due to the sparkplugs doing their job- and also if you have your headlights turned on and such. This would be done in a way where it's not totally obnoxious, just something to think about looting if you don't have one and would like to keep your car without having to charge the battery once in a blue moon. Which also brings me to my next advantage; The battery charger actually getting some use. When have you ever used a battery charger ? I once had to use one due to a bug, that is about it. Now if the vehicles slowly discharge their battery during driving without the alternator belt, you'd have to charge it sometimes, or bother finding the belt. The vehicle could even spawn with the alternator belt if you're lucky. Of course you could also always find a new battery, as they aren't too hard to find in case your battery does actually die after a fair amount of time. I know making the cars more complicated isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this is why this component would be optional. The battery drain time would be done in a way where it's not annoying, but still something to think about. The cars will fully function in this state and the component is absolutely optional, yet if you'd like to keep using your car for more than a trip to Tisy, find an alternator belt so the car will sustain itself with power without you having to do it yourself in your base after extended periods of driving the vehicle. 🙂
  2. I feel this could have a great impact on the game for new and seasoned players. Will put a greater emphasis on inventory management and forcing the player to be more selective aroubd what weapons are used/carried instead of simply picking up everything. Edit: Reason for request is to create an added layer of challenge. Benefits: 1. Essentially creates a similar management cycle to vehicles (rifle, ammo, sling = wheels, battery, radiator). Now imagine those situations where you have a car but need to search for a radiator and apply the same concept to your weapons. This could lead to more player interaction as it forces the player back into high traffic areas to look for sling resources. 2. It wont be so easy to carry bulk weapons hopefully meaning more for the rest of us 😂. 3. More gun shots due to folks hunting animals for guts for rope or hide for leather. 4. Finding weapons randomly dropped by players on purpose or accidentally because the sling has ruined and dropped off their back without realising. 5. Just that extra layer of difficulty/challenge for the veteran players. Item degradation: Perhaps the same as footwear? Degradation based on distance travelled? Or based on how oftwn the weapon is used?

    Van & other suggestions

    Devs had long time ago mentioned about possibility of adding Skoda S1203 van as one of repairable vehicles in the game, but it never fully materliazed. In my opinion a van would be a great addition to the roster with it's slower speed and higher cargo capacity fitting between cars and the v3s. Ether S1203 or it's other eastern block cousin RAF - 2203 wouldn't look out of place in ether Cherno or Livonia, just like Praga V3S fire trucks are now outside every fire station, these vans would fit as destroyed ambulances outside hospitals for spare parts. Another suggestion, FN FNX45 feels too modern and out of place in the game, USP 45 would fit the timeline better. All they have to do is re-skin the weapon.

    Y'all Want Bikes in the Game?

    I mean yeah true but I feel like people should be able to craft their own bikes, like it would need multiple pipes, nails unless they add screws, 3 tires (one for the seat), and probably tape. I just feel like since there isn't many cars people would be looking for or making alternative vehicles so they don't have to walk everywhere, I mean I'd do that in an apocalypse, and I'm sure others would too.

    Car crashed

    This problem (vehicle management) has been around for a long, long time. What I can say from personal experience is that if you increase the processing power of the server's processor (power on a single core... unfortunately... even if you set everything to use all available cores... many server installations will use a single core: another known flaw. but not to everyone, from what I read), the problem is greatly reduced. In my personal server, when I changed processor (from an overclocked AMD FX 8 to an AMD Ryzen 7) I was also able to race with vehicles and set speed records... even with some friends (I don't know how many players it would have been able to manage at the same time. The server's FPS were many thousands and dropped slightly with each additional player. But it could have been a logarithmic progression...). When I rented one with Nitrado, even if it promised the world, the performance was always very poor, even with few players... I think that game server providers (certainly the "poorest") promise performance that they DON'T deliver. Always to save as much as possible, I think. I am convinced (but at the moment I do not have the time to try it), that a personal server with dedicated ad-hoc hardware is a better solution than any public provider. And the management of "automatisms" that the game does not provide natively, you can use "Omega Manager" (from what I have read). One of the next things I am planning... if I will find the time to do it. Surely, from direct experience, Dayz Server works on the raw power of a single processor core... and the functioning of the vehicles depends entirely on this. 😔

    1.27 Experimental Release

    No. Boats are part of the game, NOT the map. It's not the same. As it would happen in reality. You can swim. You are not forced to visit the islands. The inflatable boats are difficult to transport inside the land, they will be deposited on the shore, anyway... go and get one (swimming) and take it away. There are many possibilities remaining in realism or... in the advertised "authenticity". Rather, it would not be bad to add a raft buildable with wood and nails. There used to be a mod for this, I do not know what happened to it. Now there are some much better made and more realistic motorboat mods. In the "serious" servers (NOT the official ones which are a joke) the Vanilla rafts will end up like the Vanilla vehicles (also poor and unrealistic): either modified in characteristics and functions... or deleted so you can not use them. This is the reality of the facts... if you also follow the community servers. Obviously in this forum it makes sense to contest the "Vanilla" characteristics, not those of the mods. And these rubber dinghies, as they were programmed, are completely unrealistic and almost useless. Only positive note (finally one): they work well even on servers with high ping... as it should be for vehicles and as it happens in ALL "normally written" video games. P.S. If you go to an island with a dinghy, play a bit (maybe try to build something, a base, a warehouse, it doesn't matter), then go out and continue your normal real life. Then, when you can, maybe the following weekend you come back to continue playing, but... you can't find the dinghy anymore? If it was stolen, it would be part of the game... you have to be resourceful not to have it stolen (this is how it would be in reality and this is how an "authentic" game should work !). But if you can't find it because... it "disappeared" due to a "*!@↯★ programming choice" of the person who manages the game? It's absurd, this is "crippling" the game, "distorting" it from its original vocation, the one for which it is advertised and sold: an "authentic" game. Come on, let's try to be a little realistic and see all the possibilities of the game, not just "our own personal little garden". 🤨

    Car crashed

    Cars will always be a problem. Moving cars back to client side would probably mean they'd have to rebuild the entire game. It's been like this forever. The team decided to put cars server side in order to mitigate cheaters. Instead of just optimizing the code, they compromised performance by prioritizing anti cheat measures. Does this make sense? Of course not. Should have relied on their original plan of making a game that could be modded and then maintained by individual server administrators. Instead of optimizing code, they decided to fight bad actors on official servers. LOOK HOW GREAT THAT TURNED OUT. Community servers have active admins to fight bad actors but now we have vehicles that will kill people randomly when you drive into a stop sign going 10 km/hr. Worthless security measures are obviously more important than having a smooth gameplay experience.

    Remove moving while looting

    I agree that moving while looting is rather antithetical to the fundamentals and borderlines metagaming in practice but it ONLY makes sense to remove if the bodies themselves can be moved (which should be a thing for its own reasons) Whether dragging a body, which should be debilitating to aim and movement, or carrying, which should be less so, it’s a feature that would have myriad opportunities for expanding upon. -Moving players out of fights. -Moving players into or out of vehicles. -Not just unconscious players but those with broken legs as well, perhaps only a drag option but they can still fire. Or possibly allow their arm over your shoulder while you move them even faster. -Hostage mobility (for the less compliant sort). Admittedly, there may need to be a bit of a change with how respawning works while unconscious because this would probably never be used otherwise (I’ve always felt that being able to respawn before the “You are dead” message was kind of lame). This always seemed like a strange absence from a game that sprung from one which did have that exact feature and more interoperability/player interactions goes hand-in-hand with what this game is all about.

    Well, it was seen that these dinghies (made and managed much better than vehicles: they work well even on servers with high ping... as vehicles should be and as is the case with all other games), for the features they have are basically useless. And they even managed to make them worse. I've been writing this for a few years now: it seems that these programmers hate the game or its players, since they try to ruin it on so many occasions/deliberate choices. These are programming choices, not defects that they will be able to fix (maybe)... unfortunately. This is much worse than the defects... 😠
