DayZ SA is already becoming too damn easy

The game is to easy because of the lack of environmental danger, which is what the survival genre is all about. Server performance and game optimization that they are working on now will lead too : More numerous and likely more dangerous zombies and more players. Players will impact the scarcity of supplies, this will make hunger/thirst more of an issue. Zombies will add more risk. Weather, cold, wet, body temperature, hyothermia, ect will add more to worry about, more to overcome. Hunting will offer another means of survival. There will be more things to craft. Vehicles, hopefully, will add entities that we will have to scavenge for and constantly maintain if we want to keep them running (ideally) and will likely be fought over by players. More content is coming---Things that will make the game meaningful. It is just a really large pvp arena currently. Just be patient, go out and kill some dudes ;p

Inventory effect (carry weight) on stamina?

I am actually pro-fatigue while being anti-vehicle at the same time. Said it before in other places: (MY OPINION: 0 fuel/powered vehicles EVER - bicycles/skateboards/hanggliders = fine.) But even then, Fatigue isn't a perfect excuse for vehicles in my world.

Inventory effect (carry weight) on stamina?

Gotta bring in vehicles before you dream of touching the fatigue. But yeah, they will add this eventually I assume.

Inventory effect (carry weight) on stamina?

Unlimited run and unlimited jog need to go too, subject to weight. Its just not reasonable to be able to run 10km without stopping whilst carrying a full pack and a rifle. Edit: i would qualify this by saying they should wait to introduce vehicles before adding authentic fatigue.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Vehicles were far too easy to repair and maintain in the mod. Ramp the difficulty and rarity up and make the weapons unusable without an actual crew and it could be implemented in a way that wouldn't break the game. This is a survival game. Humans survive by organizing and once they're organized they are going to find ever better weapons, strategy and tactics. Finding an RPG, mortar or HMG and figuring out how to work it is a lot more likely than repairing and maintaining a multi-million dollar helo. I would prefer to see a few crew-served and heavy weapons and never see helicopters again (unless they have some specific scenario purpose and are only used by NPCs like an occasional UN overflight to survey the area or something).

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

the reason why vehicles and turrets WOULD be good is to cause fear for you (the starving guy) and wouldn't it be awesome if your going down the street, you hear in the distance, something big, you just into a house, all the sudden you see 6 guys on a pickup truck , with mounted turret, geared to the teeth, we're not saying its going to be COMMON, but the very organized people, who play the game like pros get their reward, after hours of searching for parts and such to build such a machine.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

I don't think that the ones against want a real game. They just want a game where you have to throw rocks at your opponent because one knows that in case of a zombie apocalypse there is no way that all the heavy weapons/vehicles which existed before would still exist. They would simply disappear, eaten by the zombies. All jokes aside, it depends on what you want. If you want a real game you have to accept that some people will have heavy weapons because they were in the good place at the right time ; you cannot possibly say you want a real survivor game if you want to put aside REAL THINGS. The Walking Dead's scriptwriters did not think that having a tank was impossible, why should we ? Heavy weapons would not simply disappear and God knows that soldiers have them.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

I personally would agree with vehicles on roads comment. IMO they vehicles should have HUGE penalties for going off road, risk of damage etc. This would imo make the benefits of vehicles more counter-able and risky.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Agreed on the rarity. Have any weapon over 7.62 broken up. Realistically on a DShK-caliber weapon you'd need to replace barrels regularly, at the least. Continuing to fire with ruined barrels could result in the gun jamming, ruining the rest of the mechanism or even blowing it up and injuring the operator. In addition any heavy weapons added that aren't added to vehicles should have to be carried in pieces - the gun itself carried by one player, in both hands unable to be fired, with another player carrying the tripod mount. Both should be unable to sprint and made exhausted quicker by carrying the gun. I'd reiterate that there is a place for guns being attached to hilux-type pickups. But realistically a truck entering a city like elektro or cherno would be destroyed pretty fast. And as they'd mainly be travelling on roads, the majority of players stay off the tarmac anyway and should be able to avoid and ambush them with IED's or just regular automatic rifles. They're actually quite thin-skinned and an AK round would easily penetrate.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

As a player the only real thing I can do is voice my opinion and vote with my play. If heavy weapons and vehicles are added to the game I will just stop playing. Dayz appeals to me because it is at its core survival (though more survival needs to be added, I had more fun when almost starving trying to get to the next town). All the videos I have seen of Dayz Mod didn't look like survival at all. If I wanted a military based game there are tons of other options that give me that. Dayz gives me the fear of starving, fear of strangers not the fear of an attack helicopter. Back in the day I played SWG MMORPG, imo it was vastly more challenging before they added vehicles. I spent most of my game play running to the furthest corners of the planets to mine the best materials... Due to the mobility issues that gave me purpose on the server and I became a successful materials merchant and I had fun doing it while others had fun doing other things. The moment vehicles were introduced everyone threw up mining equipment and my job became worthless and not nearly as rewarding. I prided myself going through the work to find the best mining locations for the best materials... I fear even vehicles will do the same to dayz, part of the struggle is moving from location to location on the map, you get rid of that struggle and the game is just that much easier.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Here's a simple reason why some people do not want heavy weapons: They're not appropriate for DayZ. If you want heavy weapons there are plenty of games which offer them. Furthermore, vehicles can easily be destroyed with high-caliber rounds. And to the whole "mortar" thing... Mortars are devastating to structures and infantry, but a setting like DayZ would not be appropriate for people to realistically use mortars.. They would simply be used to shoot into towns and frag fresh spawns. You say "Oh well people already kill fresh spawns!".. Yeah, but currently people have to have line-of-sight on a fresh spawn to do so.. With Mortars they could sit 2000m away and fire over a hill, bombarding heavily frequented structures, killing everyone inside EVERY TIME.. there's no counter-play for that from the perspective of a fresh spawn (or even someone with an assault rifle.).. That mortar team could literally be ANYWHERE within a certain radius. At least sniper rifles you can hear the shots. Fortunately, no matter how much some people want this, I highly doubt it will ever happen in DayZ, so have fun with your pipe dreams... and in the meantime, go play BF4 or ARMA3. Just to give you an idea...

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

I don't understand why some people would not want heavy weapons such as RPGs when vehicles are implementend. We need a way to destroy vehicles other than shooting at them like dumb fucks. Moreover, the lack of reality woud not be having heavy weapons but not having them. Indeed, we can easily imagine that in a 225km² area full of military buildings there are some heavy weapons. It's not far fetched to imagine that the military discipline suffered a little bit from the zombie apocalypse.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

I like the general idea. No one is asking for tanks, jets or nukes. Though I can imagine an armored APC (without any weapon) as one of the best things available. However, some more heavy weapons are inevitable if we'll face certain base building in the future. And / or vehicles. What is realistic and still good for gameplay? Heavy machineguns and mortars to deploy and handle via crew. These items would be present somewhere, CDF forces served as UN troops and there were perhaps other forces around before. They could have any stuff around, but those named seem more common or realistic either way. As for the named items: It adds 'area control' but one can still flank those things or take cover when talking about MGs. As for mortars, some are really "overblowing" the issue. "Butt they could camp the coast". Newsflash: Some people do it already and don't need these kind of things. In fact, they're more effective without these things to restrict them. You can still flank a deployed heavy MG. And it's not like anyone can shit mortar shells and constantly "spam" an area with it. Fire off a few and the fun might be over. Maybe you have 20 or 30, still not really a lot if you think about it. Once under fire, you can take cover or just get out of the killzone. In comparison, a mobile ground team is still more effective to clear out a place completely. These heavy weapons (no, not tanks and such!) are good for one thing, too. Group warfare that'll happen whether you like it or not. And it's still a survival game. Essentially, nothing would change. Quite the other way, it might encourage people to join groups as you'd have more gameplay mechanics available for those in the long run. Again, I'm mostly talking about MGs that you can deploy for suppression or assault OR at best mortars for ranged suppression. And also grenades and perhaps bombs, military or otherwise. Some of that was in the mod already.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Short answer: No. Long answer: As others have stated, it's not with the spirit of the game. The more explosives and heavy weapons you add to the game, the worse it will make it. Some people will counter with, "Oh only the most dedicated will have them! They'll be really rare!" Yeah... Here's the thing, in the Mod, helicopters were really rare and difficult to get functioning.. I played on one of the most popular/populated Vanilla servers and my team and I managed to procure all 4 helicopters, and 8+ vehicles.. Every off-road vehicles was ours. Nobody could touch our base because nobody had the mobility to find it, except us. What happened? We had all 4 helicopters for FOUR MONTHS.. FOUR MONTHS.. We looted every helicopter crash before anyone else could get to it.. We cleared airfields and cities unchecked. FOR FOUR MONTHS. Know how Satchel Charges were super-rare? Most players in DayZ Mod have never even seen a Satchel Charge, let alone successfully used one. At one point, we had 3 Satchel Charges stashed. The only thing that stopped our reign was someone from within our group getting bored and blowing everything up. So what does this have to do with Heavy Weapons? Heavy Weapons will be used by groups to decimate less geared players. Simple as that.. And rarity won't make a shit bit of difference because all resources in DayZ are effectively infinite. While spawn chances of Satchel Charges were extremely low, all you had to do was loot, leave, return, loot, leave, return, loot, leave, return, loot, etc.. Eventually one will spawn and now you have the most powerful weapon in the game. Keep doing this and you stock up on them. I play in the middle of the night due to my work schedule, so it's not especially difficult to loot an airfield. Currently, in DayZ, even a Fresh Spawn with a pistol can kill a fully geared player with a little sneakiness and a few well placed shots. Why? Because MOST guns do a LOT of damage and kill people very fast.. Even pistols. So as soon as someone has ANY kind of firearm, they are capable of defending themselves no matter how geared their opponent(s) are. If you introduce heavy weapons, the balance of power shifts further away from neutral, and you start getting players/groups who can't be touched because they have weapons which outclass anything else. Then it turns into a game of "whoever has the most big guns wins.".. or "whoever has the big gun wins." There's a difference between a sniper rifle or a LMG, or even a grenade, or EVEN a satchel charge, and a HMG or a Mortar. Think snipers are bad? Imagine a mortar team sitting on sniper hill launching mortars into the supermarket or school every time they see a fresh spawn run in there. This WILL happen if you introduce mortars. Basically, what the OP is posting is "gun porn".. He's clearly really into guns, and that's great for him..But as others have said: If you want heavy weapons go play another game. There are plenty of them out there that have what you're looking for. This isn't fucking Battlefield 4.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Those that are against the heavy weapons and crew served weapons need to look at them and have these weapons be applied in the future not now. Of course these would not make sense to add right now when not even vehicles are added. However think far into the future a future where there are bases , heavily defended and built bandit and survivor bases reinforced with everything imaginable. In this future something like an SPG 9 would come in handy or an rpg7 or a small mortar to soften their defenses.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Okay, so first ur saying that having the military vehicles sucked..Your opinion, however I know many others who rather enjoyed them. Organized bandit groups in any survival situation would have an advantage, in any situation really, so no reason to bitch about a well organized group controlling a map. Idealy an attack helicopter would take quite a lot of mechanical work and the weapon systems would need to be scavenged, and with the way they intend to have the M4 spawn, it would be rare/extremely rare and also require intensive maintanence. Allowing players to have RPGs and heavy machine guns would help equalize the playing field. Then you call me out for the marijuana leaf, lol. Grow up dude, i bet you drink alcohol, so really what im doing is much safer and "level headed". Go drive off a cliff asshole
  18. The developers always claim it wont impact the PC version....... it ALWAYS DOES! It'll be far worse with Dayz and how small the development team is, they'll have a load of resources going over to the console version, then progress on the PC version will be slower than it already is. Then you start seeing things dumbed down for the PC version so they can speed up development by keeping things the same on each platform. Standalone is shit enough as it is, I cannot see it rivalling the Mod in the next year, progress has been so slow, the modders of the mod are storming ahead and SA is void of any content. The focus needs to be on the PC version, getting it to run smoothly, not having FPS drop to 20 in cities, fixing zombies and loot, putting in vehicles... I mean why aren't vehicles in? It's so unplayable without them, either give me an auto run or vehicles sometime soon. I don't know any one who plays SA any more, all have quit and just play the mod from time to time, Console version is a no go tbh, it would be so disappointing to see this game getting ported to them. Is there any need to these days? The PC has like 80 million on Steam and whoever else, including potential users. These new consoles are already under powered, struggling to do 1080p and are largely pointless. This is the first time ever, where consoles have launched so far behind PC hardware, usually they're on par, but not this time. It's only going to get worse with new APIs like Mantle, which show a 60% increase over DX in BF4 and new hardware that gets released every year. Skip the consoles, focus on the PC.

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

I somewhat agree with this. I think it should be possible to strip PK/DShK guns out of stored tanks and BMP's and weld them onto cars or pickups via scrap metal and whatever (as well as being able to weld or bolt metal and rubber onto your vehicles to uparmour them. Things like mortars and recoilless rifles would probably be a bit much though - remember the only targets are either squishy humans or soft armoured light vehicles, so a DShK size weapon would be sufficient.
  20. gibonez

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Think of it this way. Would a dedicated bandit group or survivor group who had a base not slowly fortify their vehicles with scavenged weapons and armor ? Welding these weapons to the backs of vechiles or emplacing them in bases for defense is not far fetched. These would not be practical for a lone survivor but groups especially large ones would thrive and put them to good use.
  21. gibonez

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

So heavy weapons are not stored in military bases ? so military weapons and vehicles are not manufacturered unless you go to war with a formal army that has vehicles ? No armies store these things and have them just in case. Seeing how there is over half a dozen military bases in the map its not far fetched to think somewhere in those bases some of these weapons would exist.
  22. Element47

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

we arent talking fullscale warfare in context of an outbreak. the infected dont use any vehicles, so there wouldnt be heavy weaponry deployed, only anti-personnel weapons as the ifnected are soft targets, and possibly riot control. so while such weapons may exist in a storage, they havent been fielded. so no, there wouldnt be really much reason to find RPGs in small villages.
  23. Of the content I post here, I can't confirm anything 100% because I'm no developer BUT, the vehicles I post here are in the editor list when creating a new mission AND dissapear when I disable the DayZ files in Arma 3. I do that so I can confirm 75% the stuff I post here. When that^ happens, it basicly means that those vehicles and objects belong to the DayZ game files, not to some other addon I installed, so I can confirm 75-85% of this stuff. The rusted vehicles, and the green variant I posted around here I can confirm. The UAZ too.
  24. gibonez

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

To get back on topic here is another essential base and perimeter defense weapon. The NSV machinegun. and or M2 machinegun These two heavy beasts would be idea for base defense especially once vehicles and helicopters are introduced. These would make for excellent AA emplacements to stop an enemy squad from landing on top of your base .

    Let's talk about heavy weapons

Wow, this is fucking DAYZ, not zombie survival dress up. This is a break away from the mod, and needs this sort of thing. There needs to be explosives and heavy machine guns. This game could use some claymores and IEDs, especially when vehicles are implemented. If there is the possibility of armed or armored vehicles, there needs to be a way to destroy/disable them, and you arent going to be able to do that with sticks and duct tape. Dayz's is rooted in heavily militarized zone, and after the zombie appocalypse, there are going to be armor units and heavy weapons around
