Firstly all log outs should incur a 45 second cool down, so to log off go hide somewhere and you will be able to leave safely, combat log and you really risk getting killed. If your machine crashes in the wrong place then tough. When you try and log back in and you are in a town/city/high loot area the picture below shows a simple way to control it. If you log off in the red area when you respawn it will be randomly along the green line on the outside of the blue area.

Will there be a timer to enter server with a delay for the future?

You maybe heard of the minecraft server mod "MineZ", if not go looking here. It's literally DayZ just within minecraft and without guns. You still have to scavenge for food, search for equipment which randomly spawns etc. But the reason I post here is not to advertise, but to discuss certain features of MineZ which make it a more enjoyable experience than DayZ. Let me list those reasons here: The shouting distance is 250 blocks, which is like 2,5 miles in ArmA. Basically if you see them, you can talk to them. There is a universal "peace" sign, which is easily accessible and highly visible. If you log out, a copy of yourself stays at your current position. When you log in it vanishes. If your copy gets killed, you die as well. The copy stays for 5 minutes. Upon logging out you receive a 30 seconds ban. If you log out multiple times in a row the ban-time increases and resets again if you don't log out for a while. If you die you get banned for a minute. If you die again in an hour the banning time increases rapidly. When someone murders a fellow player, a global message appears reading "X killed Y" and you see the names of others when you hover over them. So let me explain why I think those small adjustments make MineZ more enjoyable then DayZ. 1. By being able to communicate with somebody as soon as I spot them, it is much easier to identify their intentions. If they don't respond they're to avoid. You can also team up easily with strangers, while inside a town, because everyone in town hears you and not just those in the same room with you. I think this should be relatively easy to implement somehow. 2. Blocking with your sword is for MineZ, what's the question "friendly is for DayZ. It is highly visible even from afar and is fast which makes it great if you stumble upon someone else in a house. In DayZ we also have the option to salute, but the problem is, it's clunky, takes long, leaves you vulnerably and only works with a main gun equipped. This is what makes saluting a terrible option, when you run around a corner and meet a equally scared survivor. I'm not sure how a similar feature could be added to ArmA. 3. & 4. This is the ultimate solution for ghosting, combat logging and loot hopping. Period. If one gets mauled by zombies and disconnects? His copy gets mauled. If you ambush a group and they try to ghost themselves to victory? They get themselves banned for several minutes while you snipe their lifeless copys. Those guys sitting in a fire-fighter station just switching between the servers, farming his "starting" gear together? Well it will take a lot longer if they have to wait 15 minutes after their third relog. 5. In MineZ there are fixed spawn-points, 150 people per server and lots and lots of deaths. So the spawn areas are pretty cramped, I'm not saying this is good, but you'd think it is a massacre, because everyone starts with a weapon. In DayZ it sure would. 12 guys with guns in a place? One of the will go nuts. The death ban increases something like this: 1 min, 2,5 min, 5 min, 15 min etc. And gets reset if you don't die for an hour. So if some survivor starts going ape shit crazy at the spawn area, he'll get banned for a while after a few deaths. In DayZ this would also counter those who spawn, collect a basic weapon and then start hunting for other players for the fun of it. 6. When I say that we should add a "who killed who" message and showing the players name, I'm sure some of you start screaming "This is unrealistic, you wouldn't know in reallife, etc..." But we all agree that the with the bandit skin we could at least figure out who was NOT a manhunter, those without a bandit skin, and that it is now just "fire on sight". Games just try to emulate the real world, but they need some "unrealistic hacks" to convey information which they can not simulate. For example 3rd person is a great solution to make up for the lack of spatial awareness in games. In DayZ, right now, we can't even tell our friends apart when they have similar skins. This is neither fun nor realistic. Therefore adding names when you look at them would make DayZ, in a way, more realistic. By displaying informative death messages people who kill a lot will get noticed. Everyone gets a kill once in a while and that won't disturb anybody, but if you see three or four kills by the same guy you be sure he's sniping. Also going sniping will still not brand you as a bandit/killer, because only those currently on the server know about it. You have to build up a certain kind of "fame" before people recognize you as a bandit. Just like in reallife. We just created something like a "meta-humanity-system". yey

[SA] Simple mechanic for stopping one form of 'ghosting'
Xianyu posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No one likes ghosting. Nobody anywhere. Well, except the people who abuse it. In short, 'ghosting' is logging out of a server, moving to a position behind where your target is, and then logging back in and killing them. It's a really garbage, exploitive move that takes advantage of the hive system and is the reason I play solely on private hives. Nobody likes it. But I have a simple solution to curb the first type of ghosting: IE. Logging out, going to another server, moving, and then returning to the original server in a new position. The simple fix is that if you voluntarily leave a server by pressing the 'quit' button in the menu, you are locked out of that specific server for ten minutes. I can already hear the arguments against it, and they go something like this: But what if I want to go do something and have to log out? It can still be abused by closing the game without using the quit button! First rebuke: It's ten goddamn minutes. If you need to log out of a server for some reason, then chances are it'll take you more than ten minutes. Go get a drink. Go take a piss. Listen to two songs. Ten minutes gone. It's nothing. It's just not long enough of a time period to get up in arms about. Second rebuke: Yes, you could close the game without hitting the 'quit' button by closing the entire program. You could probably macro a key to do that for you. It's probably not that damn hard. But to 'ghost', the person would have to quit that server, without using the cancel button, log into another server, move, and then return to the original server so that he could be behind his target. He would kill his target, most likely. But he would also be deliberately circumventing anti-ghosting measures. And that would be something that I think would earn him the ire of game moderaters. Simply put, they would be cheating, and it would be within the full rights of the DayZ team to ban such a person if he did it repeatedly. The other concern I can see being raised is 'well it'll harm people who get disconnections!'. Which it can't. The suggestion is to have the 10 minute problem only if you leave voluntarily. It can't 'accidentally' catch an innocent unless said innocent 'accidentally' enters another server after 'accidentally' crashing his game and then he 'accidentally' logs in behind his target. Yes, people can still ghost with this system. I'm not going to explain how but it's not too difficult to noodle it all out. This suggestion just curbs the most common form of 'ghosting'. So, no complex tracking system. No new mechanics. Just lock someone out of a server for a mere ten minutes if they voluntarily leave it. You can't trigger it by disconnecting if your net sucks. And you can't 'accidentally' ghost. And it gives game moderaters the quite clear evidence of intent to game the system by any user abusing this. -
Day Z Standalone:preventing farming and ghosting
Tooka (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Farming is one of Day Zs biggest problems along with Hacking, excessive banditry and ghosting. The most used method of farming is going to some place like the airfield searching it then switching servers and doing it over again. Here are my ideas to fix this: 1. Make characters bound to servers. When you create a new character you would be allowed to choose any server..but it would be permanent for that character. I imagine most people will hate this idea because of the negatives that come with it..But it would work!! If you have a friend that you want to play with on another server, you would have to create a new character which isn't that bad. If your server is full, you are basically screwed, But theres always the possibility of overflow servers like Guild Wars 2 has. Besides, The standalone has already been optimized for performance, so it probably has a higher server capacity than the mod. This depends on how many players the map was designed for though. I like this idea because it would terminate this form of farming for sure. It would also eliminate those noobs that leave the server to get behind a player, rejoin, and shoot them in the back(Ghosting as they call it). When construction is added, people won't be able to ghost into a base either. It kills three birds with one stone. 2. My second idea is to put a lockout timer on Server transfers. It should be at least a day so people can't abuse it. It would take effect right after you transfer. This of course means the die hard farmers can still cheese farm once a day, which is why I don't like it as much. But, it would get rid of ghosters partially and still allow you to transfer if you'd like. I say partially because theres still the possibility of someone server hopping and loading in right behind a player for an easy kill. Once construction is in the game it will become an issue because you could scout someones base and hop in there the next day to loot it. Let me know which one you like best! Thank you for reading. :D -
I read DayZ/ARMA players talking about it all the time, but can't figure out what it is supposed to mean.
-
We've all experienced it, you either find a guy when they least expect it or try to take out some one who's just camping a city in order to be a dick. They vanish and hop to another server to reposition themselves then reappear and attempt to shoot you in the back. The most voiced solution to this issue that I have seen is to add a delay between when a person logs off and when their character is removed from the game. I disagree. I feel that the true issue with ghosting does not lie in the ability to log out. In fact the ability to quickly log out is an important tool for those who wish to avoid conflict. No, the issue really lies in the period where the player repositions on an alternative server. The problem is that there's no penalty to rapidly switching servers, so players will hop from one server to another as it benefits them. Here's my solution to the problem. Add timer that prevents a player from logging into a server for ten minutes after they have logged out of a server. This would punish people who attempt to reposition by ghosting as it would effectively take them out of action for almost half an hour, and as an added benefit it also serves to penalize those who server hop loot spots. I also thought about suggesting that server hopping results in a random spawn location, but that it wouldn't help new players and people looking for a more permanent server to call home. The main issue with having the delay between player log off and character log off is the scenario where a player logs off one day and comes back to find themselves dead with no idea of how it happened. It just doesn't make for good game play in the end. I chose ten minutes as a cool down timer because it's a nice balance of being short in terms of RL time and being long in terms of game time.
-
Its really simple. If you leave your server and join another one, you cannot join the first server for 5 minutes. You may join another server ofcouse, but you still have to wait 5 mins before joining your previous again. Ofcourse you can leave your server, and rejoin it again without having to wait 5 minutes at all. In case you didnt know, ghosting is when you spot someone or someone spots you, and you leave the server. Then you join another server and run to their location or a vantage point. Once you've reached the location you leave the server and join the first one again and kill them.

Had a case of ethical dilemma, and was looking for some opinions. So.. there's a server that I typically log into, but as of late its had fewer and fewer players online. The other night, it was pretty much just me except for two guys that logged in, one of which was immediately kicked for a vehicle spawn script. I quit pretty quickly because I didn't know what the other guy's deal was... Anyway, I figured that since I'm all samsquanched out and even got me an SVD camo, I might as well head on over to the outskirts of Cherno to get in position for some rooftop newb-killer countersniping. Is getting into position on an empty server considered ghosting, even if its your "regular", and even if you don't have a specific target in mind? (ie, you're not trying to get behind someone you're trying to kill)

So me and 2 of my friends were playing on a Lingor server, and we were up in Maruko all day. We were mostly killing zombies and looking for a jerry can to fill up our pickup. While looking in the fire station for some loot I heard rotor blades. I looked out to see a helicopter slowly landing by the airstrip. The chopper was bieng flown by the admin alone. I quickly got to higher ground and unloaded 5 AS50 bullets into the chopper from 611m away. The admin (<CGU> Spoonfed) got back in the heli and powered it up. It would not take off so he got out and ran. I quickly told my friend, who was at the airport building, to go look for him. Almost 30 seconds later, my friend (in-game name "LEO") killed the admin with an M16 ACOG. After about a minute I was banned with the reason "Ghost me again Muther Fucker". This is completely un-fair, and the admin was just butthurt from loosing his chopper and all of his gear. There was no MOTD saying "No-Ghosting" and I was never given a warning. Although I was in a skype call, there was absolutely no way he could have known that. Therefore making this completely unfair. I am asking that I be un-banned, and if not, I would strongly reccommend choosing a different Lingor server. In-Game name: [CBBG] Nick

Playing on US 1767 NY, with a friend. We decide to go look for bandits to snipe north of electro. It was about 3:00pm eastern. While overlooking Electro, my friend found an ATV, and drove it back up the hill towards me. Once he gets into the forest he gets shot and dies (quite close to me). I see the ATV and then I turn around and see a bandit. Shoot at him (probably missed), and he runs behind a tree and ALT+F4s since he had nowhere to go (what a loser). Once I realize that he is gone I decide to go take my friends stuff and store it in the ATV (we were fully endgame decked out). I dump the guns in the ATV and the second I do that I see the same bandit coming down the hill from the opposite direction and he lights me up. He was way too far away to have run, and I would have heard him (logout tree was right beside me, in view), so he was definitely ghosting. I pass out bleeding, wake up, and bandage with 39 blood left. I can see the ATV. I wait it out for about 5 minuites, and my friend runs back to grab his stuff from the ATV. Gets lit up by the same bandit again. The bandit runs up to the ATV and I put 12 CCO SD bullets into him. "Deadvane has been killed" +1 bandit kills. I wait about 1 minute, and walk up to his body. Nothing is there, he ALT+F4d. (I guess after the last 2 incidents, this isn't a big surprise) PEW . I am dead. I'm not really sure if anyone could do anything about it, but at least avoid the player or kill him if you see him. At least I got to share this interesting story. The only thing that makes me kind of mad was that I had been alive for 15 days, and had over 1100 zombie kills, 7000 karma and I wanted to at least die by an honest, skilled player, not some exploiting retard. Oh and to top it all off there was a server reset right after all of this, and the ATV + all bodies were gone. Hope you guys enjoyed the story at least. tl;dr. Killed an alt+f4 and ghosting bandit named Deadvane, his body was gone and the instant I realized I was killed. I skimmed over the forum rules, but if this is considered "not cheating" or "spam" , please feel free to delete it, and I sincerely apologize.

Was banned from Seattle 123 for "ghosting"?
Colten (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I was banned from Seattle 123 for "ghosting". :-\ I don't recall doing any such thing. They also said that it was my "second account", which is simply not true. My name is Admiral Ackbar on the server. -
Okay, cots (like the one in the link below) should be the only way to save a players position. With out you "sleeping" on the cot when you log out you will find your self spawned on the coast

stop ghosting. have a log out timer and log in cooldown.
slartibartfast (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ok, respawning at the coast has merit. I have no issue with that. It is clearly designed to prevent server hopping, ghosting and other nefarious activities. Unfortunately I have some issues with me and my mates finding servers with low enough pings to let us all on, we pretty much cover the globe from Sweden to New zealand. When the game bombs at the load screen then we are all resigned starting off on the beach front. Sigh. How about a log out timer of 20 seconds, this would stop the alt-f4 cowards and a log in cool down of 5 minutes would stop the ghosters, to a certain degree. Maybe prevent player death within 30 seconds of spawn, unless PvP initiated.. this would slow down the spawn point campers. -
A current solution to ghosting, hopping and more
paratus posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For a while I've been posting on here about the issue of ghosting (that is disconnecting, moving to a location on another server, and going back to the secured one), hopping servers for gear, alt-f4 disconnects and more. The majority of viewers all agreed that we need to have official private hive servers. I wanted to make everyone aware of the server The Asylum, if you haven't heard of it yet. It's exactly, in every way, identical to every other DayZ server only it's private hive. That means your character is only on that server, but it's a dedicated and permanent server. The server's only a couple of days old so it's perfect for a fresh start without everyone having duped gear, etc. Check out the site at www.dayzasylum.com and drop by. Hopefully some of you will learn there is a way to get around those gamebreaking issues. There other plenty of private hive servers around but this one is new and fresh, extremely fast (fastest you'll have ever played on I'm sure), permanent and identical to hived servers in every way. -
Hi guys, So today i started playing again and I spawned at Krutoy cap. At first I was like shit.. i have to walk for 10 mins to get somewhere.. but then i heard an ak at the shore. So i went to check it out and i find a uaz and a van, in the van was a as50 so i picked that up. When i looked at skalisty island i see 3 players swimming to the island! So i immediately get out my fresh as50 and start shooting them, I killed 2 but the third disconnected. So i started swimming to the island as I thought they might be going for the chopper since they had alot of chopper parts. Then i see the third guy pop out of nowhere and just kills me with his as50. This happend around 16:00 GMT+1 Server: UK117 (in the name it says The POLICE and the guys i killed were all playing with the POLICE tag) Players: [POLICE]Brown226 [POLICE] Flicony [POLICE]Dominic (this is the guy that dc'ed)

Server : de 165 gmt -1 my timezone: gmt+1 hour of incident: 11.15 am (gmt+1) what happened: firefight with 2-3 guys.all goes like supposed to. but when i'm hiding inside an industrial building in krasnostav, at coordinates 118.029, a guy spawns behind me and kills me. i know it's possible it was a casual thing, BUT KNOW YOU TRACK LOG IN AND OUT you are supposed to know if this was a first log in or an exploiting via ghosting, or simply lag. thanks for the investigation, it's time to quit with this bullshit of dc and ghosting.

I just got killed by some random idiots who have been stalking us on our server, they ghosted into our camp at an exact location, killed a couple of us then Alt F4'd. Being that i have admin/log access, can someone please tell me what log files i need to prove this? its really getting quite silly. We already believe they have been running around with some kind of god mode... but without proving the person in question missed, its very difficult. As it stands they are bending the rules beyond belief, i'd just like to prove whatever it is they are doing? thanks.

In a firefight on US 1253, that the player sentOne started, he disconected when he saw when thre was more than one of us and then reconected to start firering again, and I got killed. The time in the server was 03.18 am outside cherno, August 06 (gmt +9) My friends started to fire on him but he was Imortal. So sentOne disconected during fight and used somekind of imortal cheat/invincible , he took a half DMR mag and didnt die.

I am a server admin, and am curious about some of the kicking / banning rules. The other day while I was in Cherno a sniper killed one of my buddies right next to me while one of his buddies started climbing the building we were on. I got behind cover and watched the guy on the ladder. He then disappeared and I looked at BERcon to get his name. About 10 minutes later this player that DC'd rejoins the server and I see him behind me. In this situation, is it alright to ban? He technically didn't "Hack" the game, but he did ghost behind me while I was legit covering the ladder he tried to climb up.

Server is US199 (1.7.2.3/95208) Can be found simply by typing US199 in 6 Updater it's the Veteran Server. Time is ~4:40pm EST probably a bit before. We heard shooting off in the distance that sounded like an M249, we were surprised that someone would come into Cherno with a M249, and even more surprised when he suddenly appeared behind me and a friend of mine who were sniping, we were exchanging gear and he spawned right behind us in a ghillie suit and a M249. He quickly logged off the server after dying so his body would disappear. He managed to kill one of us, but quick thinking allowed us to all mow him down. I logged off temporarily to post this, and apparently my friend who is still in game is reporting that he is hearing more M249 shots. I tried contacting the US199 server admin who was online (F4ll3n) but he was unresponsive and there is no chat enabled on this server. Hopefully this can be dealt with quickly.

Hello all, I was wondering : As the d/cers and others ghosts just ruin the game, why can't we, admins, ruining their game ? What i'd like to do is : - When a d/cers is spotted : to warn him using global chat - then randomly kick him with message " d/cers / ghosters " . I don't think I'm breaking a rule doing that and I'll be ruining his game so he/she ruins others ... Any ideas or suggestions ?

US 1126 - undead legion - Ghosting/DC'ing player
zenvolta posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Title says it all. We were shot at from the front and I started fraps only to have the guy pop up behind my friend and then DC to escape. Video for proof. -
Server this happened on: US 1332 Time that it happened: 12:15-30 am PST(My time) Hackers name in game: SpectruM What happened during the incident: We were at grid 060 / 102. We were just crossing the field when a member of our party was sniped. We ran to the tree line, I had eye's on him in treeline north of the pond, I then lost him and thought he was crawling around us then from behind another of our party was shot dead by an M4A1 CCO SD. I ran to his ATV and saw him running on the treeline. Put 5 rounds in him and he ran back into the tree's directly into my buddy who put a full clip from his M4 into him, during that i was on the other side and put another clip from the M24 into him. He turned and just killed me and walked away. He is currently still on the server. This punk needs a ban now. Thanks.
