UK3 Admins hate to die? or even HACKS?
brightlight113@hotmail.com replied to proxzor's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hello again Rko, Most of your points have been explained by other users on the forum and I am glad they have some sense and make legitimate points rather than just witch hunt on hear say  I just popped on to add a few of my own points and hopefully help resolve your misunderstanding and misdirected anger. First of all, good gear is more than readily available in the north it's not uncommon to find people carrying a lot of high end loot from farming of the nw barracks for example. I see you said you haven't found anything good yet but trust me keep trying and you will ;) Second the server was locked after the crash to allow tents and vehicles to spawn correctly, it seems that without doing this tents and vehicles vanish randomly. Another server admin in the post points this out. Thirdly, I did not kill anyone on the night in question let alone get shot by anyone, so I am afraid you are mistaken and it simple was not me. I have several people that can vouch for me being half way across the map at the time, since I seem to remember you said it happened in Cherno or elektro. Another point is that no FS member was in your location at the time. Just to finish off, I tried and would have explained these simple points to you at the time but tbh you were jumping to conclusions and being rude :( I had no control over the server crashing, had no reason to crash it?! and it happens, just the other day it crashed and when I reconnected I was in purgatory and was forced to respawn myself, bye bye good loot. So i do understand your anger and frustration but just calm down next time and realise that other gamers have feelings too. As I said, hope this helps resolves your issues and even though you dragged my name through the dirt please know I have no hard feelings:blush: VP -
This is why some servers don't have vehicles
karlnp replied to anthony_henson2003@yahoo.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Vehicles are a necessity for people to stick around. After you've gotten military drops a few times, the game really loses its shine - tonight a few players said they quit because there was nothing else to do. -
Yeah, it's happening for vehicles as well, can save it from a mile away.

People are getting really tired of not being able to use/repair vehicles. It's time we get a fix on this and cut the restriction crap on newer servers as well. It's a pain in the ass to transport all your gear across this 250km² map on foot when your camping tent is raided. We need to be able to lock vehicles and their content as well - or at least be able to setup a tent well hidden right next to a bush/tree or in a forest. There's just not enough hiding spots in clearings, people always get lost and wander in the middle of nowhere a lot and find your stuff by coincidence since you can't really hide your stuff.. Same happened to me. Tried to fix a Huey, had all the parts necessary, but never gave me the option to repair anything (the red text in the mousewheel menu never showed up). Even tried downgrading to 1.5.8.2 and 1.5.7. Had the text fading out into black and the herpa derpa version mismatch text, but was able to walk around and open the menu. Didn't work either. May be related to the main action stuck with you wherever you are (Save old camping tent, Save UH-1 Huey, etc..).

I love all aspects of this game , but what makes the game complete for me is the Heli's and cars. Who doesn't want a quiker way of transportation , a search/adventure looking for these rare driveable things . Since the vehicles got removed i've started playing less , i hope they are added in again soon and the respawn on them is fixed. Somehow this is the most fun part of DayZ for me , getting vehicels !

The logical fallacy of keeping the day/night cycle
lherron posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
[Please save your "COD carebear" comments for a different thread. If you want to engage your brain, read on.] As we all know, each server has a true day/night cycle linked to its geographical location. This adds realism, makes the game more hardcore, more unforgiving. This brutality is the essence of DayZ, and it's what we love about it. However, in practice, all it's doing is creating logistical issues. Here is the logic: By having true day/night cycles, we impose a harsher and more realistic game environment on players. This is the mission of the game, therefore day/night cycles are good. Except this logic is flawed because you can't actually enforce that players log onto servers that they geographically reside in. In reality, all it does is drive the majority of players to daylight servers, further exacerbating the technical issues of this "experiment". I couldn't find an actual discussion of this issue on the forums (just a bunch of whining), so I created this thread. I'm sure there are those that disagree, and I'm curious to hear your opinions. Considering you can't enforce that people play on a server during nighttime, why do you feel that this feature should be kept? I think the most simple solution would be all daylight and all nighttime servers. YOU ALREADY CANNOT ENFORCE PEOPLE TO PLAY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. They are already choosing to play in daylight or nighttime! (edit: this is a bad solution because of persistent non-player stuff like vehicles) Another solution, more of a compromise, would be to create a lopsided daylight cycle, maybe 20 hours daylight, 4 hours night. You would retain the feeling of anticipating dusk/dawn, etc, but would increase the number of daylight servers at a given time, and reduce the current amount of server swapping. Yet another potential solution would be to put ALL servers on the same day/night clock, regardless of geographical location (since geographical location is meaningless anyway, when you aren't forced to log into your own geographical server...). This, of course, again, would radically reduce the amount of server swapping. I kind of like that solution the best, actually. Use logic. Illogical responses will be ignored. UPDATE: Here's a great solution posted by Lev: "If you want all players to be on a level playing field, then the solution that will work is having a global DayZ time that is enforced via the hive pushing time updates to servers. Then slowly shifting the DayZ time (perhaps +3 hours every day or something so a full cycle in 8 days) in such a way that a player who lives at x and plays only during y to z will experience the full day and night cycle if they continue living at x and playing from y to z." -
Incentive system for team play (discussion and possible ideas)

Mechanisms to add/change: Less ammo. More zombies. No morphine fixing broken bones, instead only temporarily walk for ~30 min. Require splints from other players to return full mobility. Reduce the amount of blood returned by food and meat so that blood bags are actually necessary and you can't return 6000+ hp by hunting a bit. Remove passive blood regen. Bigger projects to build like getting power plants working, building outposts which require some decent amount of material to build (which can give larger storage space ~100 slots). Reduce tent storage space (~30 slots?) to make outposts more worth it. Current things players can do: Players also need to start learning how to work together effectively. Everyone complains about bandits and all I see are people raiding the most dangerous places together with no overwatch or guard. Players also don't seem to realize the power of having working vehicles. You can turn a hour run north to a 20 min drive or a 10 min flight. Note: none of these changes nerfs any particular play style, just makes the game harder overall. -
On 'our' server vehicles are gone and not respawning, or so it's said, believe me when I say we've looked everywhere.

[GUIDE] Installation Guide (Steam, Retail, Mixed, Beta, Common Errors)
O'Neill replied to fox808's topic in New Player Discussion
I got that message saying that i was missing or deleted the vehicles file, weapons, and etc. I re-installed everything correctly like 4 times, made sure i had the exact -mod=@dayz -nosplash in launch options, and still wont work.... can i talk on TS or something? -
It's not a terrific social experiment if I spend 2 hours searching for my friend to experience it with. Larger groups have it easier as they have better means to repair vehicles. I agree that it was a fun challenge the first few times we did it, but with him dying and each random location resets... I get a little less interested in running through the woods forever. The most intense moments of panic and emotion are when we're together trying to make the best of it. It's a lot more harrowing when someone blows your best pal's face off around the corner from you then some random stranger you've only ever typed "friendly" to. Should he be able to magically spawn on top of me everytime he dies? NO! Should we spend our entire play session meeting in a center location between Kamenka and Berezino? NO. Quote realism as much as you want... there's no realistic explanation concerning where we spawn as is. Were you a a resident in this town? Did your boat wash up on the beach? Did you have any close neighbors that survived the apocalypse? Before the apocalypse, me and my friend co-owned a fishing business based in Kamyshovo. I'm just saying, Random does not equal a perfect system. It doesn't have to be stupidly easy, but it shouldn't be impossibly boring time sinks.

Any News about fixing vehicles?
-
Not all servers have vehicles I believe there is only a little ammount of servers that actually have them.
-
Also destroyed vehicles are not respawning now in 1.5.8.4.
-
most servers dont have vehicles to begin with.

Me and my friend find a car and we had some parts with us like fuel tank, engine parts, scrap metal and 2 set of tires. But the problem was we couldn't find any interaction how to place these parts? There was only options Get in, Rearm at, Gear and Save. We tried to point at different places of the car but we couldn't find any other interaction options. So what we are doing wrong or are the vehicles broken at new patch? Have anybody managed to repair vehicles at the newest patch?

This is why some servers don't have vehicles
belgarionnl replied to anthony_henson2003@yahoo.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
yes this should be a high priority! because after you have the biggest backpack with a very good weapon you have nothing that you can do! now if we had vehicles we can enjoy ourselves finding/repairing/driving that vehicle -
These are nice and all but are you going to address the MASSIVE issue with being unable to give blood transfusions, fuel vehicles, bandage other players, and repair vehicles? The first action of the game you get stuck with, so if you want to perform another action you have to disconnect/reconnect It's all over the bug forum so just suprised I didn't see it on the list: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=6201

Cant fill Jerry's, Vehicles lose inventory
Hauscat (DayZ) replied to Dronin's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
My squad has also experienced this bug, with all the vehicles (we have one of each). All of our stuff was lost. The persistent (save UAZ) or what ever menu option you see first (for one of my team it was (save tent)) also occurred. -
Can someone enlighten me and I'm sure a lot of others of how ya'll run across your vehicles? I've found a lot of ammo, all the great guns and the only thing left for me to do is find a car and I can't for the life of me find one :P. Any help?
-
what is the status on vehicles and tents? Is it not more important to fix the stuff before adding more to it? it might be weird concept (meant serious since I am not a programmer) but maybe that is a reason why the arma 2 release was so buggy? apart from that! latest patch made a lot of stuff better

Rare Collectable books - Realistic alternative to class system?
combatcomm1 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In the book how to survive a zombie apocalypse the author suggests to the reader that they should read read read. Gain as much knowledge about everything that you can. Navigation, mechanics, first aid, water purification, distilling alcohols. You will need to be a jack of all trades to survive. Not every person who spawns should know how to apply bloodpacks efficiently, or repair a helicopter, or even fly one. A class system is too consoley and easy. But what if you add the power of knoledge to your character that you have created. Now not only have you strove to make your character as geared up and prepared as possible but also educated by searching for and reading books. The books would not be full fledged prints but rather collectable items that take a few second animation to read and than you now have the ability to use and perform certain actions. Drop and leave the book or keep it. Hide it so you are now valuable. Whatever. Its up to you. The books subjects would be MANY. But only a set amouint of each on each server. They would allow you to do CPR. Use bloodpacks more effeciently, Repair a vehicle. Fly a helicopter. Drive a tank. The list goes on and on. This system could be easily implemented the same way many ranks could not fly airplanes or use vehicles in game modes like warfare and domination. Make the books extreamly rare, in fact, only have 2 of each book somwhere in the server at one time. That way there are only 2 mechanics on the server, or 2 pilots. People will than become more valuable to other players. Sure youve collected all the stuff you need to repair a helicopter but you dont have a mechanic who read the helicopter repair book. Than once its repaired now you need someone skilled in piloting said helicopter. More fun things to search for, adds more value to your character and adds more value to your character to other players. Edit- I will add ideas for books and skills as I come up with them or are offered ideas to help rocket out in thinking of books if he so decides to implement this system. Only 2 of each spawn on any one server. -UH 60 Repair Manual -UH 60 Piloting Manual -UH 60 Gunner Manual -BloodPack and IVs Pamplet (More effective blood regen) -CPR Pamplet - Land Nav Manual (Perhaps gives some advantage to that players navigation) - Phychology Textbook - Regen others humanity/morality whatever system is implemented - Diesal Generator Manual - Electrician Textbook (Repair powerplant system) -
Repairing vehicles is currently bugged.
-
yeah i was also hopping to se the fixed actions on the vehicles/tents( the save option stays there bugged after you check some of those) on the changelog Edit: NEVERMID its already fixed :D, not in the changelog but confimed fixed on the tracker

Is there a limit to the number of vehicles that are in an ARMA II server? If so, can 80% of this limit please be bicycles?
-
It will be released when perfect! :D I hope vehicles will be enabled again in 1.5.9, because i now have a seemingly intact helicopter, which i cannot repair/refuel, only sit in the seats and make engine noises with my mouth.
