  1. Wow, this must be the dumbest suggestion ever. I am not suprised you didnt name any mods you claimed to have made. Lets think for a second what made this mod so successfull. What brought all those people here, what made them buy arma 2? Its definetly NOT just the chance to rush to the beach and kill people for beans. There are plenty other games out there where you can just shoot people (and a lot of them are better optimised for it). No, what brings people is the premise that this game is fucking HARD! That its harsh, unforgiving and that you can loose your shit in a second. THIS is the difference that sets this mod apart from the countless shooters out there. And as far as i know it may be the only difference. Left 4 dead has more zombis, less lag. Battlefield has instant vehicles, less lag... So if you make this game easier (by introducing selective friendly fire, nerf guns for bandits, spawning magical shields for beginners, whatever..) would turn it into just another shooter. People argue that it is a shooter already. Maybe so.. but its the harshest shooter out there. Where even a bean carrying noob with a macarov can headshot a fully equiped bad ass bandit with assault rifle.

    Admin abuse on Dallas 1

No worries OP, they banned me a little while back after I stole one of their vehicles and killed 3 of them whom were afk at the camp. They abuse the rules of running a DayZ server everyday, just like hackers..they'll get what is coming to them.

    The definitive VEHICLE SPAWNS thread

On my server all the vehicles seem to spawn at our camp... LoL
  4. Hi, I sometimes come across servers where there is very little loot in an area (because someone already looted obviously) so i was wondering how often loot spawns? Also say the server crashes does it continue the loot loop where it was before or does it reset everything?`Also i heard vehicles only spawn once on a server. Like if you take the chopper its gone for good. Does this mean after a server crashes aswell or would it respawn? Regards

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Implementing game mechanics that encourage players to play together sounds good on paper, but isn't a good idea. If game mechanics were implemented to "encourage" players to work together nothing will change. Players that kos, will still do so. Players that try to be friendly to people will still do it. Why? Because no game mechanic will make strangers trust each other. It will mainly benefit the groups of players that have already been playing games together before playing dayz. These groups of players are already reaping the benefits of grouping together. When working with a group: it is easy to get geared up. it is easier to control vehicles. it is easy to control towns to farm them. it is easier to survive. when you die, chances are you'll get your stuff back. it is a lot more fun to play. The benefits go on and on. The people that work together are already owning servers. Why give them more advantages?

    When are helicopters coming back?

Yeah they do spawn in other locations i.e. Rog castle roof and Cherno north hospital although they're normally gone pretty quickly when vehicles reset
  7. I think a way to add immersion into the game and to make players more reliant on each other is for there to be a choice for a player's occupation when joining a server/spawning. These would have subtle and not required affects to the gameplay but give a real incentive for others to group in a realistic way. For instance: Doctor- the ability to bandage much faster, and also get several uses out of one bloodpack when other people only get 1 use. Also, if a player passes out for whatever reason but still has any blood left, they can get them back on their feet in a jiffy. Soldier- Better gun handling, ability to shoot when running (great loss in accuracy of course), faster reload speeds, and can carry more guns and ammo. Engineer- Anyone can get vehicles running, but if an engineer does it, it will be in better condition, drive a bit faster, and consume less fuel. Scout- When he places a tent it is a bit larger and can hold more items. Has similar improvement like the soldier but for crossbows, has a quiver, and can make arrows out of piles of wood. etc. etc. etc. Just some ideas for some of what the classes could be. But, I think this is needed cause any player can still survive just fine without these abilities from other players, but it makes the survivability much greater and opens new avenues for players if they group up. No roles to the effect that they had in TF2 or BF3, just slight changes that enhances the gameplay for everyone in a subtle way that offers a real life incentive. Something I am unsure about but is worth mentioning also anyways.... What if these players in these roles became more and more effecient the more they used their specialities in some way, making death for them and their group a very big deal...because they will lose all their effeciency in their role completely or to a strong degree if they die. This also enhances PvP in a lot of ways, cause some targets when in a firefight will be more important to take out first adding a stronger strategy element. Plus, its realistic and I think healthy for the game experience to have these roles...I mean...like we all were born when the zombie apocalypse occured and have no previous occupations or specialties that others can benefit from? Please, tell me what you think everyone, I hope I am onto something here. *PS* If not obvious, just to mention, players' appearances would reflect their occupation... Also, the occupation choice players stick with until they die.

My list of suggestions/complaints for Day Z

    1: Makes the game more challenging 2: ^see #1 3: ^see #1 4: ^see #1 5: I agree actually. Thats a shitty mechanic, and I think everyone pretty much hates that. 6: ^see #1 7: ^see #1 8: they didn't. There are plenty of good vehicles out there, you just have to find them and fix them up. 9: ^see #1 10: ^see #1

    LA 4 Hackers

Server: LA 4 Incident Time: Approximately 12:25AM Pacific Time (GMT -7) Incident: I am the admin for LA 4. I logged into the server and heard a helicopter(AH-6 Little Bird) flying around Cherno along with rocket fire. In addition to this, I also saw people running around in non-DayZ uniforms as well as various unconfirmed reports of planes flying overhead. The only name that I was able to get was the helicopter pilot who had the nickname of Marco. I proceeded to ban him on the spot and then restarted the server in order to end this silliness and prevent a mass server kill. I don't know the names of his compatriots but I will post the log from the rcon console that has a list of various players and their GUIDs. Maybe someone can use it to figure out who they were. For any questions or further concerns just shoot me a PM -AthrunX LA 4 Server Admin You can add NoGGano to the list of hackers. After server restart, caught him flying an F-35 around Cherno. Banned him on the spot. His guid and relevant information is in the above screenshot. In addition killed a guy on the server named egg whose GUID is also listed there with an M4A1 CCO SD and a Makarov SD. Pretty sure both of those aren't in the standard loot tables. I accidentally picked up the M4A1 CCO SD in order to determine if its the M4A1 Camo SD, apparently its not. I am not sure if he is in league with the other hackers but another thing to keep in mind. Also is this even the right place for this sort of thing? Also how do I remove the hacked vehicles from the server?
  11. We had a pretty good Gamenight today! 7 of us playing and found 2 vehicles (1 exploded :[) But it was lots of fun! So, if there's people still looking for a gaming community to play with, join us on our Teamspeak! :D

    How much would you pay?

A solid and marketable price would probably be $30 or maybe even more depending on the content/features/polish. I would gladly pay a full price of $50, but that's because I already know how much I enjoy DayZ. Minecraft is cheaper, yes, but that's a fairly basic engine for a basic game that can be sold to a massive demographic of casual to hardcore gamers who have no problem shelling out the 15-20 bucks for it. DayZ is a hardcore game, and realistically it probably won't sell like Minecraft. The type of player who would enjoy DayZ is the type of player who regularly puts out 40, 50, even 60 bucks for quality games of their favorite genre. Also, the higher the price of the game, the less hackers there will be since they lose more money when they get banned. One possible idea that taps into the F2P model but without fully divulging in it is to have a demo version where your character can only be played for X hours. After a certain amount of time, you have to pay for the full version to allow the database to fetch your character for you. Sure, you could keep starting a new character for free, but I would bet a lot of players would upgrade to have their character live longer than the demo allowance. Obviously you won't kill their player if it's free, just don't allow it to spawn and say "you need full version to continue playing this character, upgrade now and you can continue or click here to start a new demo character". Maybe even limit certain features that new players probably wouldn't find/use anyway (vehicles, tents, etc.)

    When are helicopters coming back?

LAND vehicles were enabled on all servers. The vast majority of servers still have not had helicopters enabled on them. What I'm trying to say is that there's no way for them to "come back" so to speak because they were never there in the first place.

    Tents disappearing

Save you tents properly. We tend to run around 3-4 times (2 different people) saving the tents before we move off. Also, when you only had loot left in one, was it all junk? You probably got rolled. Also; we normally have to restart the server twice after a crash to bring tents and vehicles back.

Haha, pretty funny stuff bro. Mucking around in vehicles the first time you happen across a new one is always great fun.

Need to hide my loots... camo netting suggestion

I don't know how I feel about adding camo netting to specific assets (vehicles/tents). But perhaps if there were large camo nets (the kind you often see at medic tents/ military bases) that players could construct I would be more inclined. You'd have to find the parts, as suggested, but the net itself wouldn't be applied to a specific object. I object mainly because I don't know how possible it would be to add asset specific camo nets.

Das boot - I mean teh boat

I saw a video of some guys who fixed up a boat on Youtube and wondered the same thing. It is saddening to hear you can not walk on the deck, from what I can see you cannot even attack from the boat either? From what I can tell, when you log out the vehicle remains on the server, so I can envisage the ocean having scattered boats from people who have logged out on them haha.. Hopefully we will see all the boats available later: http://www.arma2.com/arma-2-co-vehicles/a-2-co-ships-and-boats_en.html IMO though the PBX should be found, repaired and then be able to be upgraded with more parts to turn it into a RHIB.. i.e you need to find the gun(which could also be used with a mounting bracket on he back of say the Ute), seats etc.

Character Location tied to individual servers

totally agreed! it also integrates tents and vehicles more into the whole thing. yeah and of course it has draw backs like any suggestion. but let's be honest. the whole system like it is now is just made for the kind of exploits people use. that's why so many use them in the first place. also it's a good compromise between what we have now and having everything tied to a server. it could work really well i think. anything is better than what we have now. 9 out of 10 firefights i had ended with the others disconnecting. and people blocking loot spots in a way you can only enter them by server hopping will be avoided too. i can imagine it would be hard for rocket to kind of downgrade the system but actually the persistance would stay just not the position. and the pros outweigh the cons by far!
  19. why not contruct/repair claymores! that would be awesome! and having traps around your vehicles/tents are useless if they don't kill! do you think you will persuade me from steeling your car because I cower from a broken limbe! morphine and I got your car!
  20. I like the idea but I also think they will just be another method for server hoppers to defend their loot spots like razer wire. I would like to see options to defend and protect camps, tents and vehicles. Maybe this can help with that. But razer wire still sounds like the best option as it forces player to remove it with a tool box.
  21. Hey guys, looking for some people to play with or even a "clan" to roll with. Lots of experience with tracking, observing, and killing bandits/survivors alike. Basic Requirements: Must use Mumble, TS3, Vent or other VoIP program. Good communication and team oriented Must be currently residing in North America (Coordinating extreme time zone differences can be hard) I'm currently in CST time zone. I excel at scouting, recon work, sniping, CQB, and deaggroing fellow players. Most of the time I run lightly equipped with only the essentials. I have repped several vehicles including a Bus, Civ cars, and several ATVs. I do not have ownership of them anymore but always willing to help build! Preferred load outs: CZ550 & Revolver/1911/PDW DMR & Revolver/1911/PDW Winchester & Revolver/1911/PDW M1014 (Pellets) & G17/PDW AKM/AK74 & Revolver/1911/PDW If you want to know more, please message me on Steam. Username: Aesaunic. Cheers!
  22. Long winded I really hope some of you like these idea's please read it all. 1stly I would like to say this. I have always wanted to make a game involving survival and zombies, but for all the idea's that I have, I am missing game design experience so my idea's are as far as it goes. It's amazing how many zombie games there are and how many flops there are. The trailer for dead Island looked truly amazing only for the game to a complete bag of junk. Resident evil has turned into a kids shooter with an 18 age tag. Dead island is fun for a hour and currently nothing fills the market that dayz has. It's strange I was pitching an idea to clan m8's about a zombie game that would basically take on real life, You would have to hide out, find food and make camp. You would have only 1 life and if you were to die everything you had would become lost and you would have to start again. It was uncanny that 2 weeks later some 1 tells me about this mod for arma 2. I watch a couple of vids and did not think much of it, as I already had arma and OA I thought well I'll give it a go. Instantly I was hooked and fortunately for about 20 people in our clan I more or less forced them to buy arma 2 just for this mod. I have played with and on average about 7 to 10 people every night in a group and without a doubt this is the way to play. Don't get me wrong, if I play alone I could more or less survive without dying for a very long time but I would not have the fun I have in a group. The 1st few times I played I did not shoot on sight and tried to help any 1 I could. Even in a group fully kitted and armed we did not shoot on site. But every time I took a moment to trust in mankind I found out the player behind his pc playing was in fact a horrible little bastard and promptly shot me in my face even when I was a beenie. Which leads me to 2 completely separate idea's. 1st, The idea of an MMO in this kind of style could be brilliant, Basically what you have but with many additions including the following *small islands off shore which players can live on and claim, This would make defending there base a little easier as to get there would involve swimming or a boat. Obviously once the zombies were cleared out the only thing you would have to worry about would be venturing outside for more supplies or enemy attack. **It would be fantastic if you were able to make your island self sustaining. Grow some plants, farm some animals, build some cabins and beds, clear a spot for a helicopter to land, build walls and houses. But with each of these it should take a realistic amount of time. For example you would have to find books and train to be able to build walls etc and then find concrete and cut timber. These things would take a couple of weeks between your group of survivors giving each person a role. Say 2 players would have to go and chop would (a lot of it) another couple would be in charge of building the wall while some 1 else mixes the concrete. While other players make sure the town is guarded from intruders. While some of this may seem tedious to the odd cod player for many this would make a great realistic experience, The time it takes to do these things would require true clan team work and of course you would want to protect it. Eventually you would have everything you need, a fully self sustaining island, a Helicopter with a trained pilot (maybe some multi choice questions etc to train). You would have guns and ammo, boats and vehicles, food, house, bed, etc etc. At which point it might seem to be a bit of an end to the game as you would hae nothing else to do. But... I am not sure how this would work but your clans island would be saved to a main data base. So if your gone for a week come back and some 1 has looted and taken over your base it has gone and you and your clan must either take over another or start again. Now to make this interesting a hosting system would work like this; You join a party with your clan m8s, The party leader then looks for a server (clans would be ranked to make it fair so you don't end up fighting a group of 30 if there are 5 of you, or fighting a fully functioning clan and island if you have only really started, unless you want to) You join the server and your island and every 1 with everything spawns as it was according to it's last save. There are several island slots on every server so you never spawn over some 1 else's island, From here you can play peacefully or battle it out and defend your base. Obviously if you needed further supplies you would have to go from the safety of your island and risk being eaten by zombies. Of course it doesn't have to be island it could also be up in the wilderness and you could have created a safe little camp, or you could go lone wolf and just carry your tent around finding items every day to stay alive. I have got plenty of other idea's along this route but I will be typing all night so the above is the MMO idea. 2nd idea *rather than an MMO how about something along the lines of dead island or left for dead, But instead of it being a rather boring fps shooter with some gore it would be a truely horrifying and difficult survival game, With decisions that would actually test you on a conscious level. Ok so you start out either alone or if you have friends something like up to 10 player co-op. The map would still be huge and not level based with borders etc. You could choose to start out alone, in a pair or maybe 3 but not all 10 together with your new characters. The 1st things you would need to do would be the obvious things like grab supplies just like you do now as a beenie. You would start some where safe, maybe your home or hospital, places that you would expect to be if this happened for real. Guns would be some what rare as you would expect, I live in the uk and although I could get hold of 1 easily if this did happen I may have a job getting to the gunshop to get it. It certainly would not be in my top draw. People in the USA may not suffer this problem but lets assume every 1 in your family who are now dead had already taken them and they are gone. So the 1st thing you would want to do is find your friends, Lets assume at the start oif the game mobiles etc are still working so people you play with on team speak would be able to give you an indication of there plan as if you had rang them. I cannot imagine if this happened for real that all mobile an land networks would just go down. They could be hundreds of miles apart so this won't be easy. What would make this different is there would be no bandits, It would not be an MMO. You would play on a small server or self hosted party like many games on the 360. But with friends and clan m8's you know and would have no worry of being shot etc. Zombies would not be the currently easy to escape mindless walking dead that they are now, They would be fast terrifying eating machines and there would be thousands (Think 28 days later). Making movement and survival very difficult indeed, One bite and your dead or infected until you die. Say maybe you get your hand bitten, Players around you have choices to make. They could quickly put you out of your misery, Leave you to die and turn, or maybe 1 would opt to amputate your arm via an axe very quickly in an effort to save you. These are all conscious decisions you and your friends would have to make. Chopping your arm of would obviously make surviving harder and they may see you as a burden. Now although there would be no real life bandits (ie other players who are just out to rui your game) There would be NPC's these NPC's may have jobs or quests in return for items. You would not need to do any of these in order to advance but doing so may help you, some may be so dangerous that you have no choice but to turn them down. Bandit NPC's would exist from time to time and you may have to face them or try to avoid them at all costs. I was also toying with the idea of extreme 18+ content, It is no secret that if anything like this did happen rape would be some what rife as well as murder and torture. I am not sure how this could fit in or how well this would suit and it depends how realistic you would want the game to be. For those that think that's going over board in some sense I agree but these days games are like movies and you immerse your self in them. Horror films like hostel and the hills have eyes are very popular and clearly stimulate some senses of fear. The end result of this game would be to meet with you friends, complete quests, find safety and like in the mmo game learn and build your own camp in order to survive. Trails through dark woods and beautiful vivid landscapes would make this atmospheric and very appealing. Weapons should be rare and the use of them should have consequences like firing the lee enfield. Vehicles should be abundant but bikes would be more useful for passing the dozens of cars stuck in the road as people tried to flee their cities. I have more idea's and will update as I can, But it is now 2am and I must go sleep. Please try to post your thoughts and feedback and excuse any mass typos.

    Pending Update 1.7.1 Details

rocket, I was wondering if there was an ETA to air vehicles being fixed and an update to be rolled out to servers similar to that of the land vehicles. Nice work!
  24. Ill agree on the matches thing.. Military zombies should have a chance of dropping them, we all know 95% of russian and german soldats smoke. ;) I can also verify punisher_1's observation on the unique items. I would imagine a few people just happen to get lucky. That being said for a team of 7-8 people, we havent seen anything except the M24(found 2) off of the unique list. Thing is we frequently raid the barracks, stands and whatnot. Oh also found 3 downed choppers but no ability to enter them for gear :(. Now the weirdest part of our luck is that we could literally build a NORAD sized bunker on the amount of M107 and M240 ammo canisters we have found. So yeah, gotta love random rolls. Oh and before I forget, wouldnt camo clothing and ghille suits also show up in deer stands? I dont know about you but in America, hunters commonly wear that stuff. Thinking about it, is there a possiblity of camo netting for vehicles and tents to better obscure them? Just my thoughts... Russ

Seattle 24 - Player [Sparta] Skaz

Correction, HAKU was vocal about killing people in Elektro, none of us were at all, and yes you were on that hill, as i said, only one place to shoot at him from, and low and behold, thats where you are as Phish just admitted. You didn't help your argument one bit. Call bullshit if you like, but it seems every server me and my friends go to, the clan hosting it always has perfect loot, 2-3 helicopters, and 8 vehicles (They actually commented in chat on having this all multiple times, not specific to this server, but in general). It's far too easy to exploit owning a server, Clan members of the admin of every server always have the best and multiples of EVERYTHING, and they live for crazy long periods of time with over 1k Zombie kills. Now i'm not saying it's impossible to not have gotten PK'd through skill/luck, but i've died at least 10+ times to random bugs of falling through floors/walls/randomly falling over dead with no gunshots fired whatsoever, and fully inspected by allies. The likelihood of someone lasting that long without even a single Buggy death is just silly, and it's taking realism out of a realistic (Understandably buggy) zombie apocalypse. Oh and not to mention, btw, Seattle 24 is the only server that has a Weapons_Config_(Something or other)_Error message EVERY TIME we all log in, whatever that may mean to you DayZ mods, it's so far the only server i get this message on, when logging in.
