Hello, So several people and myself have been trying this game. We came from Eve-Online. We set up camp, have vehicles, established ourselves, and so on. From what I have seen this game is all about survival of the fittest and does not promote cooperation if you are a lone-wolf. However, if you play with a group of people then it does... Last night we were doing a raid and all of a sudden see head lights and 3 cars come down the road. Was a very intense moment but they just missed seeing us. We take the shoot first ask questions later approach. It is mainly due to not wanting to be gunned down first and lose my hard earned gear. Especially the NV with the way the new patch is.. Everyone takes that approach aside from the noobs. Have you guys experienced players help one another or is it that once you and them get established and geared up it really is survival of the fittest. Maybe we are biased. We come from Eve-Online which is a brutal PvP game. So we excel in these kind of games because we're used to it from a PvP/survivability point of view. What about you? What's your approach to this game once you get established? This is a truly incredible game.

Hackers spawning vehicles for themselves - UK13 [screenshots included]

Question: are vehicles now available on all the servers or only on a few ones (the old ones?) I don't know if it was fixed by any recent patch. -
Does this game really promote cooperation?
Rogo Ignoscant replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I beg to differ. This game FORCES you to be cooperative. A solo gunner on a mission is going to have a much harder time carrying the items he needs to survive. A 'lone wolf' type has to make the decision usually between a long ranged sniper rifle, a medium ranged assault rifle and a short ranged quick to act weapon. Lone Wolf has a much greater chance of loosing everything. Repairing vehicles is a great example of this, as a tire takes up 5 slots even putting together something like an ATV can be an incredible mission. Food, water and supplies force everyone to move constantly. Even if you stockpile your tents there are going to be people raiding them and you never know who's watching you. A lone wolf does not share this luxury. With the inability to have people at camp at any given time traveling across the map forces them to move into larger cities. More so with inadequate weaponry, and a lot more to loose. The 'use it loose it' mentality is what most 'noobs' have. Until it hits day 12 and you're carrying a silenced M4 with enough ammo to take out a small town; your living off the land and you've got yourself a nice vehicle. Water isn't a problem and you've got a camp set up for gear. Now that you've got everything you need what do you do? The answer is simple .. you go out on raids or murder sprees even ganking. Again all things you can do by yourself no doubt effectively. But with a much larger cooperative group your efficiency becomes drastically better. I can't think of ANY POINT in DayZ where not having a cooperative group is an advantage. .. and if you're like me, when things get really bad you can always shoot your friend. -
When are helicopters coming back?
fujin31@yahoo.com replied to albinl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The initial plan to fully release the vehicles caused major sync issues. When a vehicle takes damage it has to register with the main server, which wasn't accustomed to the delay that we have on DayZ servers. I guess they're slowly leaking them back out on the 50 servers like Dean mentioned at E3 so they can adjust it as needed and hopefully nail it in the next patch so all servers can have vehicles without causing the main server to freak out. That's what I got out of it anyway. -
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! I hope the Ural will be back, as well as the Offroad, those were our vehicles, and they were added in the last vehicle update right? They were loaded with stuff, literally.

Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
tom.dullnig@gmx.net replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Someone's getting mad because he's to lazy to read the thread? Quite entertaining. I have just prooven that you don't know either what rocket's plan is. If you play an argument like that, you got to be prepared for the counter. Nothing abusive in that, if you take that as an offense you may as well just leave. It's called discussing. Point is that as long vehicles are stored - most of the times not even being used - they don't get destroyed, they don't get damaged, they don't respawn. With the spawns/saving still buggy and glitchy as it is, a selected, small group of players compared to the overall number screw the testing over that way. Is it really that hard to understand? I will have fun watching the first threads go up once this is closed down. OMFG ROCKET I JUST DIED OUTSIDE THE MAP, CANT ACCESS MY STUFF NOW PLZ FIX! -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
enaver replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So yes, you were pulling facts out your arse. Again, making stuff up. Never have I said I know what rocket wants. Seems you have lowered your level to being abusive, quite pathetic really. Point is? Vehicles not working properly does not directly affect the wilderness. Have fun with that. As I have stated before my base is within the map. -

No we are comparing it to parking vehicles and tents 1h's drive of map. i have no issue with beeing able to go of map while your online' date=' but you better reset back to the mapedge if you log out or place something out there. the map areas are that large outside to support decent Airplane combat. A 225km worrld is to small for modern jetfighter speeds. [/quote'] I would also like to note that my base is within the maps bounds, but i still see nothing wrong with people making bases to the far North>North-West. The only issue i see is the limited vehicles, but apart from that i see no reason why people can't put in the effort and place a tent out there. -

Yes' date=' they have. You can probably find it via 'search.' There is an open issue in the dev queue with an official response. The wilderness will cease saving vehicles and tents in a future patch so if you're using it as a base now, you best find a new one. [/quote'] Good to know. Sucks to be an exploiter now doesn't it :) -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not sure why this thread is on 4 pages. It's a really simple discussion. The team has already stated out of bounds will be out of bounds. No vehicles or storage will save there. This makes sense. It's obviously not designed to be part of the map. It's existence is an anomaly of design, not an intended part of the strategic map. rocket has already said there will be other options for hiding gear such as digging caches in the ground that will be more easily hidden. However, existing options are not as bad as people suggest. I owned a truck myself for 12+ days by hiding it wisely, and this was on a server with name tags where vehicles can be spotted from 1000m out. Just think about where players go and what routes they take to get there and don't put your vehicle there. Also "up north" is what everyone thinks, so... don't do that. What's left to discuss? I don't know... Yes, they have. You can probably find it via 'search.' There is an open issue in the dev queue with an official response. The wilderness will cease saving vehicles and tents in a future patch so if you're using it as a base now, you best find a new one. Except it's Alpha so we don't have all intended mechanics. This is obviously a hold-over from ARMA which limits your movement in other ways. It's very clearly not meant to be a part of the game. It's leftover texture/buffer zone to make room for jet dogfights and shit, not meant for ground based combat missions and certainly not appropriat efor DayZ, and it will be patched out soon as it should be. -

my point is more that you can remove the border region, but you'd also have to do something about storing loot and vehicles inland. I think that right now it's not unreasonable to leave the map to hide stuff, but it would be better for everyone if a different solution was found. Obviously just making tents better wouldn't stop people leaving the map, but if you do want to put an end to 'void camps', give players an alternative -
Just a few thoughts of mine, first off fixing vehicles resetting after being saved. 2nd maybe adding alcohol which would give you added benefits aswell as sideeffects like maybe addiction which would make you need pain killers. 3rd crossbow / arrow has been used by the most simplest of tribes since the beginning of time, they invented this thing called a quiver, yea.

Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
themangeraaad replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I personally never have (and never will) sent up a tent city outside of the boundaries... however I have no problem with others doing so to store gear. What I do have a problem with is hoarding vehicles out there. In my perfect situation it would be fine to go out there, but any vehicle left unmanned (or unmoved) for 10-15 minutes would be destroyed/despawn. That way you could take a vehicle out there to store gear in (or retrieve gear from) your tent, but you would have to bring the vehicle back within map boundaries before logging out (or going AFK) if you wanted to keep said vehicle. -

We can't rollback as tents, vehicles and all your items are not stored on the server, they are stored on the master DayZ database. We do not have access to this and the only thing we can do is ban the hackers. -

Hey Enaver it seems like you're shooting me, let me disconnect. Alright, I'm moving position on another server, let reconnect and find you. Oh, you found me again, I'll disconnect again. Damn Enaver you have some great weapons! Clan let's camp the barracks and then switch servers together. We need better guns! Alright, our inventories are all full with rocket launchers, now we need tents. Alright let's head a mile to the West and North outside the map and hide the tent with our ATV. Nobody will find our stash! Alright, we found a bunch of vehicles and are camping most of their spawns. Let's all fuel them up and fill them with easy to find Jerry Cans so we can drive them to points outside the map only known to us and our personal out of bounds map. Let's grab all the helicopters while we're at it too and hide them the same way. We're not cheating at all! It's in the game so it's fair game for anyone. No vehicles spawn on the server anymore? Not because of us! It's not our fault that you're too lazy to look outside the map. edit: Oops I meant to post this on our clan forums. How do I delete! -

This. It's amazing how people on one hand can complain about map size' date=' lack of [u']realism and immersion when trying to set up camp inside the borders, then in the same post go on about how uber - realistic their behaviour is when walking off the map into a giant zone of endless green hills and no vegetation. Not only are these people bypassing the core game mechanics behind the mod by hoarding stuff like that in zones that are not ment to be ventured into for a reason, these people are fucking with the respawn mechanics of vehicles as well. The more you stash them away in the weirdest places the less can be tested to find and squash out the bugs. Even a drunken chimp could have figured that out by himself, but oh well. There's the interwebz to be won with 1337 azz wehiculs n stuff. :dodgy: -
@Rice I do not believe you. Simple Battle Eye doesnt give a crap what guns / vehicles Rocket lets into his mod so you having them in your inventory does not count as cheating.

aquilez replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no risk in pitching a tent outside of the map miles away from any city which is why I would call it an exploit. NOBODY is going to look for tents that far out of the map. To those of you who think ideas to stop this break immersion, after travelling through a thick forest toward the end of the map and then suddenly encountering a massive open flat area while the tree line that I am in is perfectly aligned with the map is "IMMERSION" breaking. If you and your clan hides vehicles or tents in this way, YOU ARE CHEATING. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
Blay Wayne replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What enaver says sums it up: hiding stuff inside the map is borderline impossible once you get more than one tent up, so players are responding by going literally miles outside of the game world. It goes to show that there's a problem with saving items and vehicles, and simply banning people from using the border regions isn't going to solve it. -

Sticker704 replied to kabs's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can hide the tent? Alpha. No. No. Absolutely not - vehicles are supposed to be rare. ...and incredibly balanced. Balance again, it would be easy if the zombies shuffled at you with the speed of a snail. Get some NVGs or turn the gamma up. -
Don't hoard vehicles, and don't place your stuff off-map.
-
The map isn't that big. So if someone is checking those areas where 'normal' people never go to: you can find a LOT of stuff. Sometimes 3 - 4 tents full with stuff, which is then placed into a lootpile outside, destined for despawning. Vehicles are the same, you find them, you take them, loot them, hide them somewhere else and be happy about if it's still hidden where you hid it. Get used to, you're not alone and you're not the only ones that roam in the north-eastern area near Berezino or deeper in the woods. It's amazing what you can discover sometimes.

its quite shocking to see the foaming at the mouth about this off map thing, i mean i made my point, i don't really see anything wrong with it, because its not like the ppl going off map are going to a place where you or anyone else can't go, but they are making good of a situation the proper game map is huge, but on a server where ppl are running around aimlessly the probability of someone stumbling upon your cache when your offline is high and the last thing you want to happen. the only true place where you can store stuff without it being immediately discoverable by other players is by hiding it. its true there isn't much of an end game and hoarding is a means to an end for ppl with nothing else to do. i'm for some kind of system that checks for vehicles being left idle off the game map for days or weeks to just despawn and repop in the map, but having arbitrary death-borders is stepping on the freedom of the way the game is currently. if you put in borders they get camped.. look at any shooter online currently, a lot of the fighting happens around the edges, battlefield suffers from it because of its open maps all the snipers finding the most awkward place to camp around the edges. wake island for example, how many times do ppl camp that tiny freaking hill behind the bunkers at C because its the furthest to the edge that you can go where noone pays much attention. mostly it just break immersion, i've walked off the map a couple of times and it took me hours to get back, having 'you are going to die in 10.. 9..8..' pop up would just kill the immersion for me.
