  1. Done it many times. Strangely when I get back to camp all the vehicles and tents are still there though. Your suggestion didn't seem to work for me. :P Except for one thing... Right now Hotfixes/patches are being released daily and the idea of having to start over every day right now would make me not want to play. Now maybe for every Major Patch yes... IE 1.8... but for minor IE the 1.7.1.5, 1.7.1.6 or heck 1.7.2... I would not like that at all. Right, so your ONE THING is that you don't like starting over. See you in beta then! :D Nope... I have died many times now and start over allot... but I know I don't have a TON of time to play. So I play at night for a few hours, get some decent gear and then well I have to go to bed due to well this thing called a job. So while I am asleep a patch is applied, I never got a chance to use anything I found, well now I have to start over again... not b/c I messed up and aggroed every infected in town or got into a fire fight that I couldn't handle... but b/c I had to go to bed and a patch was applied. That is why I would only suggest a wipe of every on major releases and not minor. Now maybe the system is in need of a major wipe when we went from 1.6 to 1.7, I don't know. I am just giving my 2 cents on the idea of wiping on every patch. I don't like it, I would prefer if any wipes are done it is on major releases. Opinion noted! hehe

    Barbwire really?

seperate wire cutters and the toolbox. or increase toolbox spawn rate in relation to barb wire. I have been seeing so many barbed wire kits spawning lately it's rather ridiculous. Who has barbed wire kits in their home, really? And who doesn't have a nice pair of side-cuts? Maybe industrial buildings have a chance to spawn toolboxes which are unmovable but contain a wrench, cutters, and screwdriver. The three items can be "combined" into a toolbox which maintains all toolbox functions. A wrench would be needed to repair vehicles. Cutters for removing barbed wire, and a screwdriver for some other purpose.
  4. There are tons of vehicles on each server. They are everywhere. If you are solo you probably won't find one though unless you wander away from the major population centers. Many of the vehicle spawns are in remote locations and are just sitting there waiting to be found. Personally I vote for complete resets. Delete all save data with each and every update until we hit beta. That way everyone starts from scratch with each patch. Before anyone comes in and accuses me of being a noob with nothing to "loose" (as you people spell it). My character is loaded with crap and I have run out of things to do other than vehicle maintenance, fuel/water runs, hunting safaris, and inventory management in our large "tent city".... WIPE IT ALL!!!!
  5. Only kinda, and only sorta. Groups can still take the limited vehicles available in a map, take them off map (where their tent camps are), and then keep them there by moving and saving them. This puts them beyond the reach of other characters. All of this stuff should be kept in bounds. I consider it a bug of Arma in that it's built to keep you on mission, and the mission would fail if you just ran into the 'wilderness'... But with DayZ, you can use those limited vehicles to hide all of your stuff free of looting or reprisal. Yes, I know this has been discussed ad infinitum. But the vehicle fix is, hopefully, only the start, as is this. The two are related to a play style that many feel is questionable.
  6. This is a great thread, but I think that the map borders shouldn't be locked. A good alternative for what you said is that every vehicle that is left beyond the borders despawn in 1h or something like that. That won't let players to hide their vehicles there.

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

So basically vehicles are useless now since servers restart so often. I've fixed up or found around 5 different vehicles in the past week only to have them ate by the server before I got to put them to use.. I realize its alpha but making the vehicles reset on server restart makes it not worth the work and time to fix one up... I had a truck already to go for the night. Was leaving it parked until my buddies could get on and ride around with me and loot places. My buddies logged on and literally 2 minutes later the server restarted and no vehicles... Same thing has happened a couple more times now so I see no point it even trying for a vehicle at this point... I know its alpha but man it sure ruins a LOT of hard work, especially if you are playing solo.
  8. No, but it often requires the hacker to have a vehicle to reach your vehicles, if he doesn't have one already it would be a waste of time to head off to someone elses base camp to commandeer one vehicle, to go and steal another. If hiding stuff on the map was a viable option, then I'd definitely support this. But also as a coin flip, you've got limbo which is out of bounds where people spawn sometimes. You've got to fix that issue first, otherwise you're going to have people spawning out of bounds knocking on an invisible wall trying to get in.
  9. Good think we have 5 vehicles to store our stuff in :)
  10. I've noticed that mindless PVP is far less of a problem since the starting gear and global chat have been removed. None of the survivors I've encountered have shot on sight and I've been less inclined to as well. Starting out really does take some work now, and tbh most of the people I see don't have gear that I want anyway. The effort of killing them and dealing with the zeds is rarely worth it. Its better to just find the stuff yourself. Unfortunately, claners are a problem. These guys face little challenge in the game and can farm up a stockpile of all the best gear (and vehicles) rather quickly. Which of course strips most of the fun out of the game, leaving them little to do besides running around at night with NVGs and rifles picking off loners bumbling around in the dark with a pistol. Really the game is geared towards lone wolf play (maybe groups of 2-3) atm. I imagine more content for 5+ groups is in the pipeline - Build yer own fort? Sell supplies, fight off random bandit raids (Roving NPC bandit gangs attacking forts and zombie swarms climbing the walls?) IDK, but groups reduce the challenge of surviving so they need some sort of goal to meet.
  11. Before this gets implemented, the 'find vehicles' hacks should be sorted out. I know someone who moved their vehicle 5k out of the map because wherever they put it inside the map someone found it immediately in suspicious circumstances. Within 30 minutes of moving it someone found it again killed him and stole it, 5k off the map, in a dip, surrounded by hills. They rode a tractor to his location.
  12. This is disappointing. We have about 10 tents set up with a legit base camp no duped stuff, inside the map border, just with all our stuff. We've got about 12 of us in our group and we keep vehicle parts, medical supplies, ammo and food/drink there with our vehicles so that we can run efficiently. At least put in the update that tents will delete if not interacted with for X amount of time. That way people that set up and move on will have them deleted but legit camps will be fine.
  13. Much of our encounters now have been pretty tame after Vybor. We repaired our car and woke up at our new and improved camp We set ourselves up pretty good! I think you will notice here I am missing my Ghillie suit. You would indeed be right, and it deals with that truck. The V3S. After getting our car, we decided to get better things. The server had more people on it now that it wasn't pitch black. We felt it would be safe to travel to Solnichniy and Berezino for car parts. Everything goes smoothly for the first hour. We gather up some wheels, missing some Engine parts. We come back from Berezino to hit up Solnichniy to drop of the wheels. We even get lucky to find a bike in the middle of the road and I end up riding it. Which you look ridiculous on with a Ghillie Suit. Hops and Jenkins use the car, driving it up along the road with me lagging behind. Some god forsaken reason the bike is going about 65mph on the highway. I fear that I may fall off this bike and break my neck. This was least of our concerns as Hops and Jenkins spot someones bus just outside of Solnichniy. AK rounds suddenly ring out, hitting Hop's and Jenkin's car. They heave through a few barricades in the city. Three enemy players come out of the city, no doubt hearing their car rolling up miles away. Hops and Jenkins make it through just fine. Few windows blown out. I however, for some reason, decide to run through town with the bike. The player seemed confused as I roll up, smash my bike into him. But not before he gets a few shots off on me, killing me. I noticed however a few minutes later it says 'So and so was killed.' Killing him also with a bike felt oddly pleasing. The V3S is still missing its engine, so I run through Chenro dodging zombies full sprint with nothing but an M1911 I found, trying to find parts. People must've thought I was a noob, but ducking into an apartment complex, crouch running, weaving around a corner and out the back, over a fence and around a corner generally loses the zombies on my tail. A few nice hatchet swings cleans up any intelligent zombies that figure out I am coming around the second door. FINALLY finding the Engine parts, a glitch kills Hop's when he finds a dirtbike. He spawns near Solnichniy and notices the bus is still there. He attempts to drive it back to me and he picks me up near the outskirts of Eletro. In the meantime, I find Engine parts and we think this is going to be the motherload. We would have FOUR vehicles. Four of them! Why so many? We don't know, we just want it! I want the V3S most of all. We attempt to round some zombies when they hit the bus and the bus stops dead. "Hops, why did we stop?" "I am not doing it man... Its--..." Suddenly, the bus explodes and we discover why those three left it there. All I can do is hope I respawn near my corpse. After two attempts of respawns I do spawn fairly close to my corpse and I run for it, looting my old backpack with the engine parts and getting it on my back. At that moment, the V3S was mine. I pull it out of the city and round the tracks, making for a side road and over a hill, heading back to camp with it. Picking up Hop's later on in the day we decide to hit up a market. our first big V3S run. We sweep up several cities of their supplies... The run would have went much smoother if... Well. I didn't shoot Hop's in the head by mistake as he was refueling the V3S. Then inside the same marketplace in the same city, I cross over informing Jenkins and Tes to cease fire so I can assist them better, Tes ends up shooting me in the head! Thankfully, I spawn near the city of Kameko and I am picked up easily, we all rush north, putting our supplies away and setting up barbed wire everywhere to keep out people who might get ideas. It appeared, the V3S didn't like one of our tents. It slowly over the next two hours made its way to our spare equipment tent and levels it, crushing the contents inside! We lose several days of equipment. We all stare at the truck at this point, wondering if it is worth it. Its my truck it seems, just like my name. 'Omen of Misfortune.' and I still love it.

IMPORTANT: Tents will be wiped in update 1.7.1.5

Dear people who are complaining about vehicles in a tent thread. The vehicles and their spawns have already been sorted out. Since 4 days ago. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=12809 Since then our group has found and repaired 6 vehicles for our own uses. Look harder (at announcements and in game).

    Character wipes with patch releases

Please add your views in here mate, would be best to keep everything in one place. Like I say in my post, I have the best items and I hate dying and losing them but I support a global wipe of characters/items. The reasons are that I have killed now countless people that have the best items, and a lot of them. Although the server hop issue will be fixed soon items right now are popping up everywhere. Killing a player to see they are carrying around 3-5 night vision goggles is a bit stupid. Killing two people with the exact set of items, 100% the same items(nothing more, nothing less) is a bit stupid to come across. Although me and someone I play with usually run around with the same gear on usually our inventory and inside our bags are different, and that was not the case for the people I killed. Wiping would make everyone just respawn, reseting vehicles and deleting tents. Putting everyone at the same level(atleast for a little while) Maybe a better idea is to wipe at the server hopping fix because then items would be a lot less common considering a lot of people would be forced to stick to a couple servers instead of hopping in stary, looting 10 tents, repeat.
  16. Now just need to fix it so anything outside the map borders isn't saved, including players, vehicles, and tents, and all will be well!
  17. I have heard too many things about hackers spawning items/vehicles, certain servers being mass killed, and too many people talking about dupes and so on. In my honest opinion everything should be wiped, this is alpha so it can not be such a big deal. For people that are going to post, "you probably have nothing and never had good items so you want a wipe to be fair" you are completely wrong so let me stop you before you post something silly. Right now in game I have a lot... a ghille, silenced m4, nv, gps, enough food/water for days, every medical supplies, ammo/weps out the gazoo. I died to a hacker mass killing a server last week and lost the best items, my setup was a ghille suit, silenced m4, DMR(in backpack) silenced m9, every tool, nv, rangefinder, along with all this the 24 slot backpack... And I easily got most of this back from killing other players and finding some neat stuff. A lot of the people I play with also have gotten the same outfit as me including the weps/tools I have. The one thing that worries me is that lately my group and I have been killing people and finding a really stupid amount of items which is probably not legit. When we kill some people we find that they have 3-5 night vision goggles on them which is really hard to believe they found that many considering the .11% chance to find them. Another weird thing is that my friend killed some guy yesterday and it was the same guy that killed our other friend before and he looted all of his items. The odd thing was the guy that he killed had a friend that died along side of him... but the other guy had the exact same items to the dot, nothing more, nothing less and their backpacks were overflooding some how...(items did not stop apearing while taking items out of their backpack) This is just a suggestion considering all I have seen, maybe people are just really, really lucky.

Server Admin Killed me upon Logging In.

Admins can only kill you via Arma II Means. He did not slay you, he shot you. So what is the point of this thread? Admins can not: Slay, Spawn gear or vehicles, or any other means of cheating.

IMPORTANT: Tents will be wiped in update 1.7.1.5

It's what happens when you have Alpha/Beta stages with no barrier to entry such as an application and wait list. The majority of people think I paid money to play this (even though they actually didn't, they bought ARMA2) I should have my way! @rocket Wipe away, please hit vehicles next! Also, would you consider a complete wipe (characters) each time a major feature is introduced to test viability?
  20. To all of the people claiming this hurts people with "legit" tents, I just want to point out that very few people actually know whether or not their tent setups are legit. Tents you found on the ground and especially those on player bodies could easily have come from the results of a duping fest. Perhaps you personally were not at fault in the duping, but that doesn't mean your tent is legitimate. It could very well be a copy of a copy of a copy 10 generations removed from the original tent - the only one that was actually supposed to exist. And, yes, I realize some of you found tents long ago in grocery stores and you've probably got a 95% or better confidence level that it's a legitimate tent, and you're probably right, so you don't have to pen up a long-winded response lambasting me for making false accusations and painting you with too wide a brush. This is a time when "it's Alpha" can never be spoken more truly. Advanced mechanics like tents, vehicles, etc. are under constant threat of wipe in my opinion - and should be. These items are the "end game" of DayZ if anything is. They are a turning point between the initial struggle for survival and supplies, and the "late game" hunt for vehicle parts, working vehicles, and advanced weaponry and equipment. With a tent, it's easier to get a vehicle, and with a vehicle - more tents and other vehicles. Long story short tents are a fulcrum in the game. An absolutely critical mechanic that effects game play behavior in a myriad of ways. If we want the play experience we have to be reflective of the actual game - and more importantly for the data rocket is gathering on our activities in the game to be accurate and informative, then we must accept the wipe and understand that all benefit by playing in a "legitimate" environment free of an over-saturation of what is really supposed to be a very rare item. Expecting them to somehow mine the data and tease out which tents are "real" and which ones dupes, well, that's simply an unreasonable level of effort to maintain data integrity at a time (Alpha) when data integrity is simply not a priority on the plate. It's easy to get emotionally invested, I realize. You just have to try and remember we're all flying through the air at supersonic speeds in a plane that's held together with chicken wire and bubblegum and missing half a wing. Things are libel to get bumpy, and every once in awhile some of us are going to fall out.
  21. I came to the same thought. if people use vehicles just to get to their tent camps outside the game zone, wouldn't it be reasonable to wipe the vehicles out? I play for a month, and I haven't ever seen any choppers or cars passing by. not a single time or just build a wall outside the map. like, it's a quarantined infected zone we are playing in
  22. ZedsDeadBaby

    How to build a car?

Should be noted that not every spawned vehicle needs all of these things - you should check each vehicle you find for status before deciding what parts to retrieve from your storage (or which parts for which to hunt). I've found vehicles that were green but for a single missing wheel. Not sure if they spawn like this or I'm interrupting other players' repair efforts - either way it works out in your favor to check ahead of time.
  23. Sorry for sounding noobish, but the extent of my time in Dayz has seen nothing more than a few people in the same city at the same time. This talk of tent cities and working vehicles, what the crack there? Where do you see such things? Is there a synopsis around the net which tells of the purpose of this game?
  24. Hi, I dont consider myself a veteran. Ive been playing the game for 2 to 3 weeks now, 52 hours in total, my highest bandit murder count is 3, Ive never killed more than 250 zombies and my longest survival time is with my current character at about 15 hours. Yet, the fact that Im not a hardcore veteran survivor may help people. Also, its important to remember that 1.7.1 has come yesterday (16/06/12), so some of these tips may need tinkering. First of all, you need to understand this game is not perfect. Its at an alpha stage. When I discovered this game I watched a lot of youtube videos about it and all the "awesome adventures" people had with it. Yet when I connected, it was an entirely diferent "adventure". The first day it took me 1 hour just to connect to a server. I died due to bugs. Spawned in the endless ocean, wilderness and god knows where. So, the first lesson is: The game is not what the videos show us. Its harder, has way more bugs, isnt as exciting or fun as all the videos we have seen. The videos dont tell us that, they only show us the "awesome" parts. The second lesson is that information and decision making is more important than gear or weapons. Its amazing how people dont realize that in the start, but learn it from all the "stupid" deaths you had when you were a noob. In this game you need patience, you need to know what you need to survive, how important are the items that MAY BE in that house surounded by zombies and if the risk to get them is worth it. My tips are: - ALWAYS use the internet map: http://dayzmap.info/ With it you can know where you are, where you can find items, how far things are, where to find buildings in the wilderness that can have loot, the best path to reach inland places. Without it you will probabily spawn in the coast, travel right or left until you reach a big city, go into it, find a bandit and die. I cant believe how many people play this game without any clue about where they are or where they are going. Knowing the above, in my opinion, is the most important thing necessary to increase your survival rate. Another extremly important thing is to know which houses and buildings have loot. That help you aproach specific targets, lessening the chance of agroing zombies. They are always the same. - KNOW YOUR ENEMY. In this case, its both the zombies and other players. Dont trust anyone unless you have extremely good reasons for doing so. They may come with you for a while, help you, but just before disconecting they may think it would be wise to have your beans. Decent and helpfull players have been betrayed a lot and learned to shoot on sight. Also remember what I wrote above: Most people have no clue what they are doing. Which means they will stay near the coast (most youtube videos tell you to go to Cherno or Elektro when you spawn, which is stupid), meaning most players of the server will be near Cherno or Elektro. The more people around, less loot for you and higher is the chance of being shot. - STAY AWAY FROM THE COAST. Its not worth it. Too many people, not enough loot, high chance of dying. Some places are ideal for snipers, like the apartment buildings or hospital in Cherno. There are other big cities inland and also in the coast. There are tons of good places to find loot, and since they are inland and usually far from each other, the chance of finding another player is very low, meaning a higher chance of getting loot without dying. I wont tell you where to find items, but I gave you a map. Think about it. - SHOOTING IS A LAST RESORT. This is a survival game, not a deathmatch or first person shooter like COD. Ive played with other survivors which first option would always be to kill zombies around. That is not wise. Stealth is your best option. Try to be as safe and silence as possible in the start (I dont like to prone, I usually walk while crouching) and eventually you will learn how and how cautiuos you need to be. Shooting not only atracts more zombies but also alert players of your presence in the area. Even if you survive you will need more ammo, meaning more looting and more chances to die. Also dont fight zombies in the open. - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. If you have food, drink and ammo to make you survive a few or a bunch of hours, you may not need more. There is no need to put yourself in danger for another makarov magazine or extra flares. If you have enough basic suplies try to find isolated loot points with your map that may have better gear, like military camps and deer stands. Since most of us have never played a realistic game, we think we need as much ammo as possible. I dont think so. You can do well with just one clip. Remember, if you find another player it will probabily be a very fast and intense firefight (you may die without even seeing your killer, and kill someone the same way), meaning you dont need a lot of ammo. You probabily wont even have time to reload. Killing zombies is easy if youre indoors and have time to aim properly and kill them with headshots, which always kill with one bullet no matter which weapon youre using. - SCOUT AND BE AWARE. This is a survival game, where information and decision making is essential. If you find a good loot spawn point, scout the area. The more time you spend doing it, highest are the chances of you surviving. Imagine that if youve looked at the map and thought a certain place is a good place to find items, others will think the same. Look for dead zombie bodies or the lack of walking ones in loot buildings. Remember that once someone go inside they may take 5 to 10 minutes to explore, loot and decide which gear to take. If you hear people opening cans or eating, trust your instincts and believe there is someone there. Also try to think where snipers might position themselves if they were to protect a certain area. Also there are some clans and groups that have taken hold of areas like airstrips and airports and they probabily will have someone guarding it to stop people from looting it. Always think there may be someone in that building youre going into, no matter which one it is. Boring? Maybe. With these tips some may think youre a coward. Others will think the game would be too boring. I dont think so. I have decent gear and enough to survive. I dont need 7 DMR clips because I dont want to shoot without reason, even if I find another player that might kill me. Once you stop looking for the "thrill of battle", you realize acquiring survival skills and experience about the game, landscape and scouting can be just as rewarding. The deal is that when you have good gear and dont need to loot as much you are left with barely any objectives. Some, like me, look for tents and vehicles (even through Ive never found any so far). Others will try to acquire the best military gear avaiable, like nightvision goggles, military rifles, sniper suits. Others get good guns and start killing people for fun. I started playing this game because of the stories and awesome videos I´ve seen in Youtube. Yet all those were made with cooperative play. The way the game is right now you can barely talk with strangers because of the danger of being shot on first sight. I hope in the future people will realize the pleasure of playing with other people, even strangers, is more interesting than shooting them for their gear (which is not that essential, IMHO), and the focus of the game will change. I hope this post was usefull for some people, even if extremely long. If youve liked it please reply so the post remains in the first page.
  25. Better move all of our stuff into our newly aquired fleet of vehicles in the mean time XD
