This is my first post to the forums but I'm hoping this gets a bit of attention... I had the idea that Police cars and Ambulances could be implemented as fully integrated vehicles into the game. The Police cars and Ambulances could have their's horns audio files changed for sirens. As a bonus, the cars could have a loud speaker that lets people hear the driver through the push to talk at a much further distance (essentially acting as an amplifier). The introduction of Police cars and Ambulances would help establish a 'vigilante' faction that could patrol the major cities for people who require assistance/deal with rumoured banditry. Please feel free to add anything to this or give any criticsms, I'd like to hear what you have to say.

From the look of it, he's adding vehicle and player markers that makes it possible for him to see the other players' and vehicles' locations on the map. Search the lines on "community.bistudio.com/wiki/" without quotes. -
Revive Paddles - would encourage teamwork
offgrid replied to Arseassin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, I'm here and registered just now because this is one of the best ideas I've seen for the game so far coming from a non-developer. This game already is one of the most fun video games I have played in a long time, but referring to the original poster, I have to agree. This game needs SOME kind of resuscitation. THAT SAID.... I am a medic, and there are ways to do this without the usual "GIVE ME THE SHOCK PADDLES" as stated before usually in games like Battlefield 3. I feel like this game should use a painful, drawn out process as the original poster stated as well. In the field, there are better ways than a two click process to resuscitate someone in hemorrhagic shock. I believe you should need a drawn out process, taking 7-10 steps to completely resuscitate someone. I believe once down, there can be a 5 minute window from the second he hits the floor to when there is a blood pack AND high flow oxygen hooked up to him(explained later). Once you are at the blood pack (part one) the timer stops unless he bleeds out to zero again, then it starts again, but this time, you have two minutes instead of five to get more blood into his system. ALSO , it should DEPEND on how the player died. If they were mauled/eaten alive by zombies, it should require (not going into details of drug names) antibiotics via IV Therapy extra on top of everything. If they were shot multiple times, it should require extra bandgaes, like 5 to stop the player from bleeding once you start giving him saline/blood. So, sample steps should be like the following: GUNSHOTS/FALLS/TRAUMA: 1) Combitube/Intubation (for airway control) (2 slot item) 2) High flow oxygen via intubation with bag valve mask. (spawn together, take up two slots) 3) Blood pack (#1). He will continue to bleed out until you bandage (after this step) 4) 5 Bandages. (One bandage is not enough to stop multi point trauma wounds. 5) If the bleeding is stopped below 8000 HP from the first blood pack, you will need to administer another blood pack(#2) before continuing. 6) 2 Occlusive bandages (People generally get shot in the chest, it stops your lungs from collapsing for an open chest wound) 7)Antibiotic IV therapy (similar to use of a blood pack) 8) 1 Morphine 9) Patient is stabilized. I think that a player should now get the incapacitated timer, set for 30 minutes. I know, long time, but this would be a sacrifice anyone would make, especially if you're part of a team. they can still drag you into the woods, or into a building and overwatch you. This would give your body time to stabilize ( no where close to real life , obviously) This would make your team vulnerable and make them react to keep you alive. I know a few times I died from something stupid and it woudl have been nice to have a buddy pick me up and say "seeya in 30" rather than "Have fun walking back and probably getting shot." When the player is up, he will have to take pain killers every 30 minutes for the first hour to stop getting the jitters. (or at least once). THAT said. This system would generally take up a LOT of space (15), I know. But as stated before, having MULTIPLE ITEMS and a TEDIOUS process will make this need to have the designated 'Doc' on your team that is there to help when someone goes down. The meticulous process would also engage player more than (give epi-pen) when they're onconcious and boom, they're awake, Or just a small window to shock once and they're ready to go. I feel like that would be a little more sacrificial for supplies, and keep the balance of the game in tact. Even if you are with a single friend, just carry the stuff in your pack.. if one of you goes down, you can both pull supplies out as needed to patch eachother up, same with bigger teams. it just encourages watching your buddy's back more, and if he gets that one server hopper (happened to my friend last night) that logs into a stary sobor tent as he walks by it and gets blasted in the back, you both don't have to spend a long time regrouping. Yes, he'll be on the floor next to you, but you'll have the chance to save all of his things and get his limp body to safety. If a system like this went into affect, it'd be nice to be able to not only drag bodies, but get them into vehicles (only unconscious/stabilized) and taken out. That way you can (if your team has the resources) get them to a greater safe place to recuperate. I know I went into a lot of detail of my off-chart version of the original poster, but let me know what you think about this kind of system for resuscitation. I didn't throw in the 'downed by zombie' steps but it would be different in my opinion. Thoughts? Thanks for reading. -Purgatory -

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
9.9% of the vehicles I spawned across thousand serverinstances have been destroyed. The actual active vehicles is however lower than the total counted, so the percentage of destroyed portion of vehicles out of the active servers is probably higher. -
Thanks for the response rocket, I won't pretend to understand exactly how the servers work as I don't run one right now (though I am looking into trying to set one up), however your answer does lead me to another question. Why do the vehicles and tents not spawn sometimes if the problem with the server / hive restart is fixed? Also, just a suggestion, but some form of OOC chat for reporting server problems that is policed by the admins, or through some other method to prevent its exploitation, would be very useful while the mod is still in alpha. If you talk in group chat while in the lobby, the admin can see that in the admin console. If they aren't in the console, odds are they wouldn't be able to restart it at that moment anyway.

Question about vehicle respawns
The Wolf (DayZ) replied to DangerosoDavo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would like clarification too, but first and foremost maybe confirm that your server is actually spawning vehicles. In this interview, Rocket states that only about 50 servers have vehicles on them, out of over 300: What I've heard is that if a vehicle spawns, one will not take it's place until said vehicle is destroyed. I have no real confirmation of this, but I can see that being the case as endless vehicle spawn could really bog down a server (I'm guessing). -
I have had reports from players on my server that people are walking into there camps off the edge of the map and driving/flying off in there cars/helis/trucks the players doing it seem to walk directly to the camps rather than searching. I have also herd reports from people that use some of the SE server that they know of a maphack currently in circulation that allows the user to see the location of all vehicles on the server. Has anyone else had reports of issues like this or herd anything about these maphacks ? I am keen to find if its something that we can detect with BE as its causing havoc on UK3 to the point now where i have had to shut the server down until i can find a solution. The rage messages from players is getting out of hand.

Occupations NEEDED and REALISTIC
Boonshniggle replied to Boonshniggle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I actually enjoy lone-wolf mostly myself. I just feel it's not a challenge nearly as much as it should be. For me, it would add to the immersion and realism if I am crazy to go at it alone, and freakin' god-like and get huge props for pulling it off, cause it's just that hard. Also, the way I survive should be through some rather inhumane ways. I feel I should have the need to *use* people. Myself personally, would I group with an engineer the whole time just for when I run into vehicles? No, when I find a vehicle, if an engineer is around, I would have him fix it up and get it running, and then I will shoot him in the face. If I had a bloodpack, would I not find a doctor, have him use it on me, then kill him and take it back? of course ;) It's just not realistic for lone-wolf to be as easy as it is right now, and they should have some real interaction with other players, just in a very devious fashion. Lone-wolf should be impossible/hard mode and only the truely skilled and masters of DayZ should be able to think they can pull it off. In reality, that's the way it would be as well, I would think. Keep in mind, I am suggesting all mechanics for uses of all current items stay the same. Just grouping with people adds a slight enhancement to what these items can already do. -
I think a way to add immersion into the game and to make players more reliant on each other is for there to be a choice for a player's occupation when joining a server/spawning. These would have subtle and not required affects to the gameplay but give a real incentive for others to group in a realistic way. For instance: Doctor- the ability to bandage much faster, and also get several uses out of one bloodpack when other people only get 1 use. Also, if a player passes out for whatever reason but still has any blood left, they can get them back on their feet in a jiffy. Soldier- Better gun handling, ability to shoot when running (great loss in accuracy of course), faster reload speeds, and can carry more guns and ammo. Engineer- Anyone can get vehicles running, but if an engineer does it, it will be in better condition, drive a bit faster, and consume less fuel. Scout- When he places a tent it is a bit larger and can hold more items. Has similar improvement like the soldier but for crossbows, has a quiver, and can make arrows out of piles of wood. etc. etc. etc. Just some ideas for some of what the classes could be. But, I think this is needed cause any player can still survive just fine without these abilities from other players, but it makes the survivability much greater and opens new avenues for players if they group up. No roles to the effect that they had in TF2 or BF3, just slight changes that enhances the gameplay for everyone in a subtle way that offers a real life incentive. Something I am unsure about but is worth mentioning also anyways.... What if these players in these roles became more and more effecient the more they used their specialities in some way, making death for them and their group a very big deal...because they will lose all their effeciency in their role completely or to a strong degree if they die. This also enhances PvP in a lot of ways, cause some targets when in a firefight will be more important to take out first adding a stronger strategy element. Plus, its realistic and I think healthy for the game experience to have these roles...I mean...like we all were born when the zombie apocalypse occured and have no previous occupations or specialties that others can benefit from? Please, tell me what you think everyone, I hope I am onto something here. *PS* If not obvious, just to mention, players' appearances would reflect their occupation... Also, the occupation choice players stick with until they die.

I had found an ATV and fixed up and I was happily driving it around when I then found a toolbox which says it is used to repair vehicles...Which I didn't need to fix the ATV. Are there vehicles that require the toolbox or maybe it is more efficient or faster with one?

Can we stop the CoD/BF3 name calling?
punisher_1 replied to shadowvfx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lets face it hardcore types, gaming these days is closely nearing levels of the typical 4 year old mentality. However it's not only the gamers its the Devs who produce them . Simple games are that much more easy to make and reap the rewards to make a quick buck. Gaming has been dumbed down and simplyfied for the instant gratification crowd. Lets take a BF3 moment. Joe dumbass jumps into a 55 million dollar aircraft to fly it a quarter of a mile to jump out of it to capture a base. How dumb is that? But no worries the aircraft just spawn in a minute of so and Joe is off again to take yet another base by bailing out. So Joe comes here to DayZ ( free to play ) there are no 55 Million dollar aircraft to wreck, Here little to no vehicles at all and if you are lucky enough to find one you better have the smarts to keep it running. Joe does not know shit about staying alive. A game where every bean and bullet counts Jor can't handel the fucking pressure, he has no satifaction because the game is soooo hard. Joe goes two routes he rage quits or he goes out on the net and picks up the latest hacks and starts to ruin everyone elses fun. I dont want to cater to Joe or his types and every game these days has to be bullet proof to stop the hacking or exploiting. Joe is the spoiled child that is bred into scociety today. He never grew up fishing or hunting, he never really had to work hard or build anything. A rough day for him was having to do a chore or two around the house maybe clean his room. -
They are adding them back with 1.7.0.1 along with the tank traps and barbed wire. As such, they need to be a requirement for repairing vehicles. Have you ever tried changing a tire without tools? What about a fuel tank?

Hey guys, looking for some people to play with or even a "clan" to roll with. Lots of experience with tracking, observing, and killing bandits/survivors alike. Basic Requirements: Must use Mumble, TS3, Vent or other VoIP program. Good communication and team oriented Must be currently residing in North America (Coordinating extreme time zone differences can be hard) I'm currently in CST time zone. I excel at scouting, recon work, sniping, CQB, and deaggroing fellow players. Most of the time I run lightly equipped with only the essentials. I have repped several vehicles including a Bus, Civ cars, and several ATVs. I do not have ownership of them anymore but always willing to help build! Preferred load outs: CZ550 & Revolver/1911/PDW DMR & Revolver/1911/PDW Winchester & Revolver/1911/PDW M1014 (Pellets) & G17/PDW AKM/AK74 & Revolver/1911/PDW If you want to know more, please message me on Steam. Username: Aesaunic. Cheers!

where do u guys usually hide ur vehicles? Hahaha... Not sure if serious..

Very infrequent random events like this I think have great potential. I like to think the world should be going along without me. Seeing zed spawn when I approach a town snaps me out of that. Seeing NPC units like this immerses me again. If you have NPC vs NPC (CDC v Zeds) I would love it. These guys should be double nasty and dangerous, but combined with a reduction in military weapon spawns and killing these guys for all their weapons/ammo/vehicles would be a real victory. Love it!

First of all, vehicles are all server side. They don't transfer from server to server. Second of all, I have never seen or heard of an Armored SUV before. Third of all, vehicles are much more common now to find.
-
Thanks for the response rocket, I won't pretend to understand exactly how the servers work as I don't run one right now (though I am looking into trying to set one up), however your answer does lead me to another question. A hacker followed me in an invisible helicoptor and bombarded my encampment with rockets, destroying two vehicles and killing me. http://steamcommunity.com/id/kbash/screenshot/542930143159720356

Last I checked toolboxes were removed from the loot table and as such were not needed for fixing vehicles.
-
Nope, toolboxes are simply for barricades. Vehicles can all be repaired without a toolbox. Odd, I know.
-
Regarding restarting the servers, if the HIVE and the server are not restarted the right way, then all the tents and vehicles saved on the map don't reappear until the it has all been done correctly. This is a known bug that you are simply not acknowledging, and it happens all the time. Also, if you have some magical way of figuring out peoples names on the forums without being able to ask them in game because the global chat has been disable, please let me know. My main point still stands as well, not being able to discuss bugs and glitches that are affecting an entire server is not beneficial to an alpha test.

I noticed driving across dams (flat surface wide enough to be a road) will damage vehicles (including the bike, I almost broke my bike!!!!) as you move along them. Also moving in large buildings such as warehouses or the big brown long barns will do the same. This pretty much means you can't drive into them get out, let the zed-heds spawn while you are in cover.

40% OFF SALE | Premium DayZ Server Hosting | Host Altitude (Ltd)
beginner replied to jonnerz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Looks like it was restarted successfully. All tents and vehicles are spawned. -
I can see it but I believe is should be tied to triggers. Ex. You find a down Helo. You go in and take loot from Helo or investigate. If you are in # of meters to Helo -there is a % chance if you will trigger this NATO clean up or could be something like in 38 Days Later (branch of military on their own) and this group would come in and check on the Helo since it was there's and looking for supplies. Player can escape out of there or decide to take on a more heavily armored force. (Talking about guys with bullet proof vest and heavy weapons. If you decide to take on this force you will then also trigger a % chance of Zombies being attracted to the gun fire. The game would spawn a select number of Zombies based on an equation and these Zombies would move toward the location of the Helo and gun fight. The NATO clean up group will leave after a few moments after the Zombies get in a certain distance from the Helo/NATO group. Players will need to get what ever gear they can get before they Aggro any Zombies wondering into the area. As a note ay night time these NATO forces would have night vision goggles. (flares are useful then) These event would not always trigger but knowing it could will create great moments of tension and fear. Plus imagine if your a player in a distance traveling through a forest and hear gun fire in the distance and look over a hill and see this event play out- day or night. To keep from people farming weapons from these NATO cleaners, they would have bullet proof vests which make them harder to kill. If players start over whelming the NATO force they will leave. Players can pickup some of the weapons they would be using but limit to one clip per weapon found. The Vehicles would be damaged if you are able to get one but if there is an Armored one like in the image above then you could not capture that since its armored and players don't have the tools to take it. Zombies would stay in area eating off the dead. High risk and high reward event. I believe in the idea like in life- (So you want the freedom of driving and having your own car, great. But now you need to work to pay the insurance and car payments.) All new opportunities give players more ability and options but also comes with it's own new set of issues and complications. Let me what you think, Also with the possibility of shooting characters and damaging their gear/weapons would fit great in this Event to limit farming.
