  1. Nicely written story mate :) Loved the read to be honest. And you don't have to feel bad for him either. The hardly earned gear he had, was simply the M9 SD which drops from barracks/deerstands, or the mp5 from helicashies, barracks/deerstands. But good find evenso mate. What server are you on? Maybe you can tag with us? We were all abou the surviving and hunting unfriendly players all over the place. But currently we got boored of it, it wasn't hard surviving in the forrest so now we have taken to the coast, and are roaming the city during day/night time. Don't know what to do? Here is a list of stuff: Camp the NW airfield for gear. Repair Vehicles Set up a tent in a good location to fill up with gear, and when you got enough then go rampage in a city, and see how long you last., when you die just go back to the tent and start over, and set goals like that. (It IS tense, and really nervwrecking if you track 4 people moving in the city, and then you see one turn arround while ur crawling afetr them in a guillie suit in thegrass) List of stuff to get: SVD Dragunov Camo(goes perfectly with the Guillies suit, as it makes you nearly invisible to the naked eye, unless someone with binos are spotting ur way, evenso you can be hard to see in the grass/trees) M4A1 SD M16 with M203 grenade launcher(funniest wep in game imo) M136=Rocket launcher (OH THE FUN, see 4 ppl running into a house? send a rocket in the door and laugh) Get NVR= nightvision goggles and hit a nighttime server and hunt sniper's in Cherno/elektro, or lay on a roof laughing at people running arround with glowsticks and flares =D Get a range finder and try to get retardedly long killshots with a sniper. Good example: Get the BAF AS50 that can zero in on 1800meters.. One kill from that and you will be exstatic.. I saw a video of someone that was chasing a bandit on a mortorcycle that he wanted, he was at Novy sobor when he was comming through on the bike, he figured he was heading for the airfield, so he went in a straightline for the airport with his BAF AS50, and man oh man.. comming over the hill and then shooting someone driving away from you from 1500+ meters is hysterical.. Never heard anyone laugh like that before :P Best kill i've seen in ages :p
  2. Again, remove the ability to store vehicles and pitch tents off the map (North of 000 grid latitude) and I see no reason for anybody to wander there..

    [GUIDE] Vehicles & Repair

    Updated guide with new vehicles
  4. First of all... to address the "out of bounds" argument. Gamers have been programmed to think that if a provided in game map does not display a location outside of the map that makes that location "out of bounds." But "out of bounds" is only a game term to provide a certain bounds of play. But given that this is a survival game based on realism. There is no out of bounds. I think ideally Rocket would create a legit island that still has a large wilderness off the map but not one that is so effectively infinite. There are only two issues I see. One is the duping. This really needs to be fixed and I hope tents are at the top of Rocket's list. Once that is fixed it will likely fix the gameplay as teams will be forced to return to map area for food and water and supplies. Second is vehicles. I see no fix for the fact that vehicles can be hoarded. The question is...do they need a fix once the duping is fixed? If the duping is fixed and people are forced to return to map area, they likely will use vehicles to accomplish this...thus forcing the vehicles to return to the map area and allowing other players easier access to stealing the vehicles. Having an invisible wall is absurd and one that I don't see Rocket implementing... firstly because it goes against everything he believes in as far as game design and because he hasn't implemented it yet. Being a hobby programmer I know how easy it is to create coordinate boundaries with flat line boundaries. Easy as this piece of code in the main loop: if (x < 0){x = 0;} if (y < 0){y = 0;} That's all it takes. If Rocket were planning on using this as a fix, he would've done it by now. As far as the zombie suggestion or the blood loss suggestion goes... the blood loss suggestion is absurd and is a magic penalty. The realistic penalty is if you travel without enough food. What needs to be fixed is the fact that in most cases you can log off and log into a different server to regain your food and drink status to full. This will force players to have food and drink to sustain themselves in the wilderness. Zombie horde pre-aggro spawning is too far fetched but and idea would be to spawn zombies where a dead, player body has disappeared. Or rather... create a spawn point for zombies to spawn. It wouldn't actually spawn zombies until someone comes to that spawn point. That spawn point would contain a counter with the number of zombies it contains. As a player shoots the zombies at that spawn point the counter goes down and if the player leaves...the spawn point despawns the zombies while retaining the counter to keep track of how many zombies are left at that spawn point for later respawning. When the counter reaches 0, spawn point is removed. Thus if clans group in the wilderness and battle it out this will create large groups of zombies that will be in the wilderness. Another idea would have the spawn point slowly move around the wilderness and have a randomizer to have the spawn point move towards the map area thus creating semi random hordes people desire. EDIT: To above poster... it only "hurts the game" because you refuse to adapt. The whole point of this game is that it contains infinite possibilities for emergent gameplay, it is the ultimate game genre. The whole point is adaptation. If something works and helps people survive and prosper, then other players must adapt to counteract the new tactic.
  5. Since this is a Vehicle questioning thread, when do vehicles respawn after someone, maybe i, let them explode by driving with broken engine.... xD ?
  6. My two cents.. Having explored area north of Pobeda Dam (grids 000-015) finding plenty of tent cities (largest often more than 24 tents due to the "unlimited tent exploit/bug") with vehicles and high tier loot I have definite mixed feeling about this issue. It is always nice to stumble upon such place and steal good loot and vehicles. This itself bring certain excitement trying not get caught (or setting myself for a sniper shot >800m when the owners come back home). As surprising as it sounds there is ALOT of activity going on in those seemingly remote areas and because people are very protective of their loot collections it is generally "shoot first or get shot" mentality, which makes it purely an area for PVP. The problem is that since there are no buildings, there are no Zed's which essentially makes living and wandering around the area north of Pobeda basically a any other multiplayer game where your focus is to solely to whack other players (and steal their stuff in this case). This, in my opinion strongly conflicts with the main idea of DayZ.. (Everyone knows how frigging boring was the second season of The Walking Dead when they only camped at the farm).. This problem is emphasized due to the rather easily gained ability to be nearly completely self-reliant (hatchet eliminates the need to find wood, animals are plentiful and Pobeda dam is close enough source for water). To me it seems it becomes more about aimlessly collecting and storing the "best loot" just for the sake of it. In my opinion, this should be made more challenging for the groups wishing to practice such hoarding.. As of now, it is actually "carebears" who use borders of Chernarus to store their loot, simply because it is so easy. First solution would be to fix the tent bug which allows people to create these massive tent cities. Also, IMO, one should be able to destroy and/or pickup tents laid by other people as it would bring more insecurity to the hoarders. As for wandering off the map, the solution is simple; No tents can be pitched off the map nor vehicles can be stored there. Vehicles left out of bounds, will spawn back to their initial spawning locations within specific time (e.g. same as loot re-spawn). And now a treat for all of you wannabe camp raiders out there. EU20 has/had (last checked 12th of June) a very camp containing nice higher tier loot (camo SVD's, M4A1 SD's, NVG's etc.) at 113 003. Now you are wondering why would I be so cruel and reveal some crew's secrets so blatantly... Well, after ambushing their camp there were three dudes who disconnected right after getting shot. Now I don't give a crap if you think what I do here is wrong, but the behaviour of these cowards just makes by blood boil. There is your frigging carebears right there..
  7. I would not have any problems with hiding stuff outside of the map bondaries if that meant that anyone in the game can still find a fresh broken vehicle inside normal map. I have never encountered any *natural* vehicles inside normal DayZ's map(I've stolen a repaired motorcycle with an almost empty tank, but I think it belonged to someone before).Im starting to think that hiding vehicles outside of the map's borders causes a stop to the spawning of other vehicles. And this is bad. Maybe number of vehicles on the server should not be limited?Or am I mistaking here and they still spawn and Im just unlucky?
  8. Problem is. There are no Veichles anywhere on the map. The people who live in there moms basement already ran around everwhere collected them and moved them to an off map location where it is practically impossible to find. UNLESS you spent several months traveling with a team of 20 out in the 'desert' to find them. This includes all helicopters and off road vehicles. So what you are doing is, duping all gear out there in tents. All you need is 1 tent atm to make 1000+ same with every other item. So there is no need to come back to the map. Also you are avoiding any zombies or any other player encounter. I mean if you want to play Hello Kitty Online or THE SIMS with your character why dont you just go play those games? You talk about war with other clans thinking your some kind of elite because you were 'organised' grabbed the first helicopter on the map u saw and moved it way off the map. Stealing Vehicles off the map, avoiding any interaction with Zombies and other Players totally removes any DayZ gameplay at all. I mean why are you even playing this game SERIOUSLY? Like there are no other sandbox games out there? Out of bounds of the map should be punishable by death if your out there for longer than a few minutes u should get a countdown. This game and the people that play it get more retarded by the day. Its a shame. Of course they need to fix the spawning in Pre Deployment area first.
  9. As has already been pointed out to you, people taking all the vehicles and leaving them x amount out of bounds is unfair. I haven't a single car in my entire 20+ hours of playing this game. In fact, I've only seen a bike, and I'm pretty sure someone had ridden to where I found it. The problem is the mentality, in my honest opinion. The action doesn't really bother me, and I honestly feel like it could provide very interesting moments, but people should try to understand how they could be potentially exploiting. What I think it really comes down to is what Rocket thinks on this subject.
  10. I consider a clan taking all the vehicles and weaponry out of bounds, somewhere I literally have no hope of finding it, ruining my experience. Clans have no fear of death, no fear of their stash being found, its a safety net for pussies. It ruins the over all balance of the game.

    DayZ hackers? Gear wiped serverwide

I was wondering about this yesterday too, something similar happened - logged into one of my "home" servers, where I had 3 campsites spread across the map, and was aware of another 3 I'd found - all of them were destroyed. All tents flattened as though they'd been blown up or run over, regardless of location. Which would have taken more explosives than would be available on a server, it seemed every campsite had been destroyed server-wide. I've seen screen caps of hackers' maps showing the locations of vehicles, campsites and players, so it seems plausible. Though I don't know if it's possible to reset/roll back the server.

    More Script Users!!

I knew people were using vehicle markers.. no way these one hacker kids had found our base to explode up all our vehicles.
  13. Our merry little 7 players group has become bored and thus we have become bandits. We had everything we could get in this game: tons of weapons hidden in tents across servers, plenty of vehicles, enough food and medical supplies to eliminate need for further raiding for months to come. Then we started to hunt zombies for sport. Cleaned towns. Made silly experiments. We still had fun. When 7 players with skill and military weapons enter a a town, zombies or alone survivors have little chance. Of course some of us die to other players bullets but the rest of us kill those who killed some of us. Take the stuff from the dead and give them back to the freshly born team mates with Makarovs. So death means only 15 minutes trekking now to us. Increasing difficulty of zombies and survival would not solve this problem. It would only make the lives of newcomers even more harsh and those who do not have group would have no chance to survive at all. I would prefer to build things or hunt bandits and help other players than prey upon the weak. Direct communication range is too short for efficient estimation of friendliness. Shooting is safer. Somekind of ingame radio would be nice. Or a freeking megaphone :D This http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11015 would be a good start but not the actual problem solver. What I suggest is some sort of longterm goals that last longer than individual lives of players. Lets have some discussion what those things could be. For example: - ability to produce stuff that people need from raw materials. - ability to get more permanent bases of operation: perhaps taking over some building and getting a generator there to produce electricity for lighting and other purposes. Maybe even to take control of some of those radio masts and beging a local server radio. Of course people would need some sort of portable equipment to listen that radio or buildings could have fixed radios for listening those. - possibility to modify vehicles, paint them (paints and all other parts need to be raided or produced of course) I know these things sound a bit like some sims game but is it necessary a bad thing? To have other things to do besides killing things that move and mere survival. Humans need greater purpose and meaning to things. Now we have none and killing other players is the only real reason to go into towns anymore. Now discuss, brainstorm and let your imagination fly high!

  15. Because there is a big difference between hiding a tent in a map that can still be stumbled across luckily by a player' date=' and a tent/vehicles 20 km away from the map, which are completely unavalaible unless you have the coordinates. [/quote'] People scour the area off the map all the time with the express purpose of finding tents. It's not unavailable. Anyone can go there.

    ...Dafuq?

Story time. A couple stories actually. So yesterday I was sitting at my base near the shipwreck at the NE corner of the map. All of my other friends were out on missions gathering food, vehicle supplies, etc, except one other friend. The loot we had managed to get was: Some kind of Zodiac speed boat Two leisure boats Two ATVs A Jeep that seats 5 (whos name I cannot recall) At least 3 tents full of food, guns&ammo, Medical supplies, etc) So I'm semi-AFKing in a tree checking the map on my steam overlay, when I see someone run across the base. I assume it's my other friend. The person gets into one of the Leisure boats. I mouse over the person; It is not one of us. She starts the boat up, and begins to (slowly) sail away. I put a few rounds into her with my M14; she's dead, but the boat is still moving. It slowly sails away, the corpse still slumped over to the side. I tell my friend what happened, and we check the base. This girl had ran past the Jeep, the two ATVs, the tents, and chose to steal the slow-ass leisure boat instead of the fast Zodiac boat. ...Dafuq? Later that day, during the evening, one of my friends on teamspeak brings his friend over to our new base (we changed locations after someone else found it) this friend rides over on an ATV. He says we can keep it. Later he goes out and rides a motorcycle into camp. Then two cars I dont think are even in the game. All have full health, and this is in the span of thirty minutes. The next day, a Fully-operational helicopter spawns in the middle of our camp, while this guy is on. (obvious hacks is obvious) However, as the server admin was also in our group, he reset the server, which despawned all the hacked in vehicles. ....Dafuq?

The ability to build and grow crops

Not sure if serious, Day Z = Zombie Apocalypse Survival Simulator. If you want to play it as a shooter than that’s up to you. If you want to sneak in and out without shooting at all, it's up to you. If you want to run around being a medic and patching people up, it's up to you. If you want to be a motherfucking bus driver doing your route then it's up to you. If you want to Bear Grylls it in the wilderness, you can, it's up to you. If you want to rebuild society in this god forsaken world, by gum you should be given the chance to try. This game gives you more options than just guns, guns are just a game mechanic, like driving is a mechanic and sneaking is a mechanic. If you don't feel like you'd use added features, then congrats, you don't have to use them; The game is finished as far as you are concerned. This game is a Simulator, It gives you the scenario. You get to pick what you want to do with it. If Day Z was a shooter, then you'd probably be seeing things like killstreaks, teams, rankings, scores, KDR, regenerating health. And probably a respawn button so you'd have more than one life? You know; the things that are noticeably and actively missing? but hey, here I was thinking I'd get constructive crit. As this is a suggestion board you know, for suggestions and for people to make a case for why said suggestions would add something extra to the game. An actual Discussion, not "Farmville = Growing crops" because what does that have to do with anything? Are plants and zombies mutually exclusive? than what about Plants vs Zombies? Or are we just illustrating other games with mechanics? Like: COD = Shooter, Flight Sim = Flight Sim, L4D = Zombies, GTA = Vehicles in Sandbox. Big Buck Hunter = Hunting animals. What I'm getting at, is that you added nothing of substance with your post, it wasn't constructive and was barely on topic and added no avenues of discussion. Which makes me think you didn't read the "Please read before posting" sticky, which makes me wonder why you are commenting in the suggestion forum at all really. You can tell me you think my idea is bad, I really don't mind, I'd just like to know the WHY for sake of discussion and possibly improving my idea.
  19. So that's where all the vehicles are :O
  20. It's an exploit, and I hope it gets fixed. I actually made a post about this in the suggestions forum earlier today. It isn't fair for a clan to stash all of the vehicles on the map outside of the boundaries a million miles away, where no player can reach it without jogging for hours.
  21. Many of the most popular servers are now becoming targets for all the script hackers. im refering to mainly- - Teleportation of other players (havent seen this myself in a while) - Kill scripts that insta kill players out of no where - Server wide kill scripts that kill everyone on the server - Spawning of vehicles that do not occur in DayZ (But exist in arma and remain in the CFGs) - Spawning of weapons and gear not present in DayZ to gain supernatural advantage (See weapons with thermal sights) - Various other hacks (Ie poping you out of your body and into something else) Now on normal vanilla servers Admins can deal with this, But DayZ has tied our hands so tightly to protect a few people being wrongfully kicked? This is ruining the game on a far wider scale then a few abusive admins ever will. Some things are easy to prove... a clever script hack is not. Placing the burden of proving such hacks on the admin delays appropriate bans and allows these hackers to ruin servers and ruin individuals enjoyment of this mod (which aside from its bugs is the best thing i've ever played!) I'm not saying there should be a free-for-all for every kid with cash to rent a server so he can power trip, But you must either aggressively work to stop this hacking ASAP or loosen restrictions on admins. In the latter case, Allow at least Bans local to that server for suspicion of hacking. Even better would be to allow Admins to run server side detection scripts that can auto kick/ban. While we uphold the highest standards of evidence for Bans on our servers this influx of Hacks is causing a situation where many many offenders wreck people hard earned progress and simply jump to another server for their next attack because admins are reluctant to ban for fear of thier server being blacklisted.
  22. I agree it definitely would be more fun with more vehicles and bikes.
  23. The motivations have changed because players have figured out the game, zombies are barely a threat, but finding the best weapons/vehicles/packs/skins is hard if you're just checking loot spots over and over, the best way to get the best stuff is to take it from others. (and they may not have gotten that stuff legitimately either)
  24. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10885 In response "Sciencecows" idea about adding a "depression/anxiety" meter to force more player interaction i randomly came up with the idea that players should be splintered into several archetypes as it would-be real situation, as it stands now we all basically look like CIA/Blackwater(random) operatives rolling about in a zombie apocalypse being able to do every/anything in the current version. We never bring in new guys we dont know into our group purely because we have no idea if we could trust them but if you're all bringing something unique to the group it's in everyones best interest to get along ;D I'm curious to see what peoples thoughts about several survivor archetypes to choose from all with their own advantages/disadvantages/starting gear/model? For example;- Civilian - Average joe but not so average! Engineer - repairing vehicles/building objects etc Civvy/Military qualified pilot EMT(Emergency Medical Technician) Military soldier - Unit destroyed during infected counter attack? Police Officer - Over run & fled Etc. Lore wise it wouldn't cause a massive issue as if/when you die you just respawn as "another" guy within the same archie. On paper i could see these individuals coming together to survive & bring their own skill set to the group to survive or against the world to form a "psychopathic war-band" to scavenge aggressively throughout the world. :-)
  25. Thanks for the response rocket, I won't pretend to understand exactly how the servers work as I don't run one right now (though I am looking into trying to set one up), however your answer does lead me to another question. Why do the vehicles and tents not spawn sometimes if the problem with the server / hive restart is fixed? Also, just a suggestion, but some form of OOC chat for reporting server problems that is policed by the admins, or through some other method to prevent its exploitation, would be very useful while the mod is still in alpha. If you talk in group chat while in the lobby, the admin can see that in the admin console. If they aren't in the console, odds are they wouldn't be able to restart it at that moment anyway. Did not know that, thanks for the info.
