IMPORTANT: Tents will be wiped in update 1.7.1.5
ZedsDeadBaby replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
To all of the people claiming this hurts people with "legit" tents, I just want to point out that very few people actually know whether or not their tent setups are legit. Tents you found on the ground and especially those on player bodies could easily have come from the results of a duping fest. Perhaps you personally were not at fault in the duping, but that doesn't mean your tent is legitimate. It could very well be a copy of a copy of a copy 10 generations removed from the original tent - the only one that was actually supposed to exist. And, yes, I realize some of you found tents long ago in grocery stores and you've probably got a 95% or better confidence level that it's a legitimate tent, and you're probably right, so you don't have to pen up a long-winded response lambasting me for making false accusations and painting you with too wide a brush. This is a time when "it's Alpha" can never be spoken more truly. Advanced mechanics like tents, vehicles, etc. are under constant threat of wipe in my opinion - and should be. These items are the "end game" of DayZ if anything is. They are a turning point between the initial struggle for survival and supplies, and the "late game" hunt for vehicle parts, working vehicles, and advanced weaponry and equipment. With a tent, it's easier to get a vehicle, and with a vehicle - more tents and other vehicles. Long story short tents are a fulcrum in the game. An absolutely critical mechanic that effects game play behavior in a myriad of ways. If we want the play experience we have to be reflective of the actual game - and more importantly for the data rocket is gathering on our activities in the game to be accurate and informative, then we must accept the wipe and understand that all benefit by playing in a "legitimate" environment free of an over-saturation of what is really supposed to be a very rare item. Expecting them to somehow mine the data and tease out which tents are "real" and which ones dupes, well, that's simply an unreasonable level of effort to maintain data integrity at a time (Alpha) when data integrity is simply not a priority on the plate. It's easy to get emotionally invested, I realize. You just have to try and remember we're all flying through the air at supersonic speeds in a plane that's held together with chicken wire and bubblegum and missing half a wing. Things are libel to get bumpy, and every once in awhile some of us are going to fall out. -

I came to the same thought. if people use vehicles just to get to their tent camps outside the game zone, wouldn't it be reasonable to wipe the vehicles out? I play for a month, and I haven't ever seen any choppers or cars passing by. not a single time or just build a wall outside the map. like, it's a quarantined infected zone we are playing in -
Should be noted that not every spawned vehicle needs all of these things - you should check each vehicle you find for status before deciding what parts to retrieve from your storage (or which parts for which to hunt). I've found vehicles that were green but for a single missing wheel. Not sure if they spawn like this or I'm interrupting other players' repair efforts - either way it works out in your favor to check ahead of time.

Sorry for sounding noobish, but the extent of my time in Dayz has seen nothing more than a few people in the same city at the same time. This talk of tent cities and working vehicles, what the crack there? Where do you see such things? Is there a synopsis around the net which tells of the purpose of this game? -
Hi, I dont consider myself a veteran. Ive been playing the game for 2 to 3 weeks now, 52 hours in total, my highest bandit murder count is 3, Ive never killed more than 250 zombies and my longest survival time is with my current character at about 15 hours. Yet, the fact that Im not a hardcore veteran survivor may help people. Also, its important to remember that 1.7.1 has come yesterday (16/06/12), so some of these tips may need tinkering. First of all, you need to understand this game is not perfect. Its at an alpha stage. When I discovered this game I watched a lot of youtube videos about it and all the "awesome adventures" people had with it. Yet when I connected, it was an entirely diferent "adventure". The first day it took me 1 hour just to connect to a server. I died due to bugs. Spawned in the endless ocean, wilderness and god knows where. So, the first lesson is: The game is not what the videos show us. Its harder, has way more bugs, isnt as exciting or fun as all the videos we have seen. The videos dont tell us that, they only show us the "awesome" parts. The second lesson is that information and decision making is more important than gear or weapons. Its amazing how people dont realize that in the start, but learn it from all the "stupid" deaths you had when you were a noob. In this game you need patience, you need to know what you need to survive, how important are the items that MAY BE in that house surounded by zombies and if the risk to get them is worth it. My tips are: - ALWAYS use the internet map: http://dayzmap.info/ With it you can know where you are, where you can find items, how far things are, where to find buildings in the wilderness that can have loot, the best path to reach inland places. Without it you will probabily spawn in the coast, travel right or left until you reach a big city, go into it, find a bandit and die. I cant believe how many people play this game without any clue about where they are or where they are going. Knowing the above, in my opinion, is the most important thing necessary to increase your survival rate. Another extremly important thing is to know which houses and buildings have loot. That help you aproach specific targets, lessening the chance of agroing zombies. They are always the same. - KNOW YOUR ENEMY. In this case, its both the zombies and other players. Dont trust anyone unless you have extremely good reasons for doing so. They may come with you for a while, help you, but just before disconecting they may think it would be wise to have your beans. Decent and helpfull players have been betrayed a lot and learned to shoot on sight. Also remember what I wrote above: Most people have no clue what they are doing. Which means they will stay near the coast (most youtube videos tell you to go to Cherno or Elektro when you spawn, which is stupid), meaning most players of the server will be near Cherno or Elektro. The more people around, less loot for you and higher is the chance of being shot. - STAY AWAY FROM THE COAST. Its not worth it. Too many people, not enough loot, high chance of dying. Some places are ideal for snipers, like the apartment buildings or hospital in Cherno. There are other big cities inland and also in the coast. There are tons of good places to find loot, and since they are inland and usually far from each other, the chance of finding another player is very low, meaning a higher chance of getting loot without dying. I wont tell you where to find items, but I gave you a map. Think about it. - SHOOTING IS A LAST RESORT. This is a survival game, not a deathmatch or first person shooter like COD. Ive played with other survivors which first option would always be to kill zombies around. That is not wise. Stealth is your best option. Try to be as safe and silence as possible in the start (I dont like to prone, I usually walk while crouching) and eventually you will learn how and how cautiuos you need to be. Shooting not only atracts more zombies but also alert players of your presence in the area. Even if you survive you will need more ammo, meaning more looting and more chances to die. Also dont fight zombies in the open. - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. If you have food, drink and ammo to make you survive a few or a bunch of hours, you may not need more. There is no need to put yourself in danger for another makarov magazine or extra flares. If you have enough basic suplies try to find isolated loot points with your map that may have better gear, like military camps and deer stands. Since most of us have never played a realistic game, we think we need as much ammo as possible. I dont think so. You can do well with just one clip. Remember, if you find another player it will probabily be a very fast and intense firefight (you may die without even seeing your killer, and kill someone the same way), meaning you dont need a lot of ammo. You probabily wont even have time to reload. Killing zombies is easy if youre indoors and have time to aim properly and kill them with headshots, which always kill with one bullet no matter which weapon youre using. - SCOUT AND BE AWARE. This is a survival game, where information and decision making is essential. If you find a good loot spawn point, scout the area. The more time you spend doing it, highest are the chances of you surviving. Imagine that if youve looked at the map and thought a certain place is a good place to find items, others will think the same. Look for dead zombie bodies or the lack of walking ones in loot buildings. Remember that once someone go inside they may take 5 to 10 minutes to explore, loot and decide which gear to take. If you hear people opening cans or eating, trust your instincts and believe there is someone there. Also try to think where snipers might position themselves if they were to protect a certain area. Also there are some clans and groups that have taken hold of areas like airstrips and airports and they probabily will have someone guarding it to stop people from looting it. Always think there may be someone in that building youre going into, no matter which one it is. Boring? Maybe. With these tips some may think youre a coward. Others will think the game would be too boring. I dont think so. I have decent gear and enough to survive. I dont need 7 DMR clips because I dont want to shoot without reason, even if I find another player that might kill me. Once you stop looking for the "thrill of battle", you realize acquiring survival skills and experience about the game, landscape and scouting can be just as rewarding. The deal is that when you have good gear and dont need to loot as much you are left with barely any objectives. Some, like me, look for tents and vehicles (even through Ive never found any so far). Others will try to acquire the best military gear avaiable, like nightvision goggles, military rifles, sniper suits. Others get good guns and start killing people for fun. I started playing this game because of the stories and awesome videos I´ve seen in Youtube. Yet all those were made with cooperative play. The way the game is right now you can barely talk with strangers because of the danger of being shot on first sight. I hope in the future people will realize the pleasure of playing with other people, even strangers, is more interesting than shooting them for their gear (which is not that essential, IMHO), and the focus of the game will change. I hope this post was usefull for some people, even if extremely long. If youve liked it please reply so the post remains in the first page.

I see no problem with this. It doesn't 'ruin the game', as has been suggested, it just makes everyone play like new players. Now everyone has to find gear, rather than resupplying from private reserves. That's the point of this project, right? To test game mechanics? This X3. I hope vehicles get wiped next. -

Go for it rocket lol If it stops all the greedy bassabs hoarding off the maps where no one can get without a vehicle, fair play to you. Ill loose a bit of stuff but better that for the overall gain :P Shame you can do a reset for all vehicles as well In the three weeks probably ive been playing with my mates i have not yet seen one vehicle other than some daft beggar on a bike with 50 zeds behind him. We have visited site after site looking for vehicles but not a single one, i guess because they are all sat off map where we cant reach them. Definitely needs looking at imho. -
http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=10885 In response "Sciencecows" idea about adding a "depression/anxiety" meter to force more player interaction i randomly came up with the idea that players should be splintered into several archetypes as it would-be real situation, as it stands now we all basically look like CIA/Blackwater(random) operatives rolling about in a zombie apocalypse being able to do every/anything in the current version. We never bring in new guys we dont know into our group purely because we have no idea if we could trust them but if you're all bringing something unique to the group it's in everyones best interest to get along ;D I'm curious to see what peoples thoughts about several survivor archetypes to choose from all with their own advantages/disadvantages/starting gear/model? For example;- Civilian - Average joe but not so average! Engineer - repairing vehicles/building objects etc Civvy/Military qualified pilot EMT(Emergency Medical Technician) Military soldier - Unit destroyed during infected counter attack? Police Officer - Over run & fled Etc. Lore wise it wouldn't cause a massive issue as if/when you die you just respawn as "another" guy within the same archie. On paper i could see these individuals coming together to survive & bring their own skill set to the group to survive or against the world to form a "psychopathic war-band" to scavenge aggressively throughout the world. :-)

Glad to see this move... Those refugee camps are a blight and a den for dupers!!! Is there a plan to regularly purge the wastelands beyond the borders of all saved tents, vehicles, wires and other items??? It's too easy to get a vehicle and drive for ten minutes into the rolling desert and set up a camp beyond all reach... Question regarding tents... Are there plans to eventually make tents "rain free" zones where we can preserve/recover body temperature when it's raining similar to other enterable buildings/deerstands? Put up a tent, crawl inside and as long as your completely covered, you are protected... This could players a realistic, albiet dangerous, alternative way of riding out a rain storm in the wilderness. As it stands we either have to build a fire (giving away our position), use a heatpack or find a building to hide out in... -
Why is everyone I meet an ***hole?
zantiago replied to Deacoon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, i will be 100% honest here. I am a bandit.. But not the kill a random player on sight kind.. Id rather be abit more creative with my means.. We are a group of nearly 10players who play together, and one of the days when i was solo, and bored of staying in the woods i figured would go to shore, to see the sea and relax before going back into the grey zone.. However, while i was sitting on the beach, admiring the view, i heard something in the grass behind me, about 25meters or so out, i didn't turn arround, i knew no zombies walked out here, and with the gear im packing anyone with a weapon will msot likely shoot me the first chance they get. For the record, in terms of what i have. Guillie, DMR, M4A1SD, M9SD, Coyote backpack(24slots), all available accessories exept range finder, 2bloodbags, 2morphine, 2epipens, 3bandages, 5cooked meat, and 5bottles of water, not cans, since i use bottles for refills, as it makes me survive longer in the grey. My char has about 3days on it atm, so.. I figured my time had come now, i'll just sit here, admiring the sea, waiting for the bullet to come.. When i figured i could just tell him he wasnt alone there, he might have not spotted me yet, so i tell him in direct comms "Hey mate, if you are a newly spawned, and got a weapon, feel free to shoot, that's what everyone seems to do anyhow" This guy walked up to me and said "shoot you? not sure if that's how this game is ment to be played, im trying to survive here, i got no friends here, and i just got killed over some bandages and food myself" "I see" "Do you wanna take a seat? The view is pretty nice here" "sure, if it's safe enough" "you are no more safe here than you are in cherno mate, no point trying to convince urself otherwise" We sat there for 5mins, and he said that he wanted to survive for longer than just 1hour or two.. I checked his gear, and asked about his health.. He was at 6k hp, he had a makarov with 1mag, 1bandage, 1 painkiller and 1can of food.. I ended up telling him to drop the weapon on the beach.. and so he did after thinking about if for a few minutes.. I ended up giving him my M9SD, 5mags, hunting knife, matches, 3cans of food, 3bottles of water, healed him up to 12k blood, gave him 4 bandages, and then pointed him in the direction of Polana, and told him to not stop until he reached that town on the map, shows him how to use Shift+Leftclick on the map to set positions, and then told him to not go to the NWAF, nor the EAF, nor run into cherno/elektro looking for supplies, they can be found in the wild.. And then we parted ways, he was standing there for a few minutes while i observed him through my scope of the dmr.. He actually started heading directly for polana, newly equipped and ready to survive in the woods.. in the grey where all of us are. If you are reading this, you name started with "Can" something.. Hope you are still alive mate.. And i hope you didn't waste those M9 mags i gave you.. We do exist, both survivors and bandits alike.. But there is a clear diffrence on how people play the game, i for one play it like it should be played, like a survival game.. This aint cs, cod, mw with a bigger map and added vehicles.. So many thinks otherwise.. But that is theire problem, not ours.. -Z -
Hello all before I'm told things i already know: Yes I know Rocket and the DayZ team does not support Kronsky's SP mod, Yes I know I wasn't supposed to get it after the link was removed hence its removal, and no this isn't a flame on either party I don't care why it was removed or who was the victim and villain. Now on to my question/help request. What I want to do is edit Kronsky's SP map and spawn Arma 2 vehicles such as tanks, APCs, Helicopters, etc. I extracted the PBO but I'm not sure how to proceed from there, thank you for any help/or information you can bring to this.:D

I was the partner who was there, shooting this guy in the head with a DMR repeatedly for what felt like an hour or so. We have 3 vehicles and about 20 tents, which he ended up finding (not sure how). I know many of you might not care about "campers" like us who complain when our camp is compromised, but this is beyond that... this is about cheaters. Ban this guy, please. Name: Crazy Hunter Server: US 42 - Seattle 13 - LEM Time: 3:30am-4:20am PDT
-
* Server this happened on. Seattle 3 - LEM * Time that it happened including your timezone. Between 3:45 am and 4:15 am PST * What happened during the incident. This scum bag was constantly dcing every time me and my partner shot him. Headshots wouldn't put him down as his corpse would fall (and be lootable) but a few seconds later he'd spawn a small ways back from where I'd killed him and attack us again. He started shooting at our car as we were driving. We parked a ways from our camp and somehow he caught up to us. And the continuing fight he kept after us and left for a short while only to return and try again (DCing even more) Not only did he compromise our camp, he destroyed one of our vehicles. It's pretty ridiculous that even head shots don't even put these fucks down. He dies and comes right back. I'll try and provide what else is needed. Edit: Edited to fit format, and to help iron out the facts. Crazy Hunter is the sort of player that needs to be REMOVED. We fought him for over 20 minutes (Close to an hour but I'm not 100% sure of the time frame) of him constantly DCing each time we'd get him. When we'd finally start camping the approx location he'd come in... A few moments would pass and suddenly he'd be behind us and shoot one of us. How do I know it was him? The guy first spoke in direct near the very first encounter. Asking who was there before the first action. A short while later we noticed in the players list his symbol changing from the one that denotes in game vs in menu.

Vehicles more common or just luck?
revenoff replied to Markedgun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
all servers recently respawned all vehicles and additionally put in a respawn function for if they die or are left alone for 7 days so now is a good time to find them -
well im sure i git banned cause i dropped the n bomb once cause some kids raided our base and took everything and some white kid decided to screenshot it and get me banned when im black myself, and i didnt even say it to any person in perticular this kid just wants to get on everyones ass. but whatever ive been banned for absoulutely nothing on that server before anyway.... it sucks cause its our home server and we have 4 vehicles on it and i just rebuild our base for the 3rd time. so now theres 4 useless vehicles there and one is in the middle of the road fully repaired. im not expecting to get unbanned, its just bs tho.
-
Yeah it'd be fun if you could put GPS trackers on vehicles. Only usable if you have already looted a GPS sat nav. It would be useful for: - Being able to hunt down vehicle thieves. - Baiting somebody to steal a vehicle and lead you to their camp. - Keeping track of group members for swift emergency evacuation. It would probably require an engine hack though so I'm unsure just how feasible this would be.
-
I agree that it should remain an option, but something should be done to prevent seeing over walls / around corners. If third person has to be taken away, I hope we at least can keep third person in vehicles because certain vehicles in first person make me almost sick.
-
Rocket, I assume at some point you will consider turning off the third person view. Whether it's permanent or just a test, I feel like it's going to happen at some point. I'm also aware that this is a hot button issue with one side defending third person and another attacking it. Personally, I'm in favor of third person because to me it gives the game a more tactical feel like Rainbow Six meets Zombies. However, I still dislike being able to use the camera to see people over walls / around corners. There are two big reasons why I like third person. The first reason is that it makes me feel more attached to my character. For instance, I get Camo or a Ghillie Suit, and I can see it on my character. It makes me like that character just that much more, and it makes that character feel much more important to keep alive. You lose all the aesthetics attached to a character in first person. The second reason why I like third person is the spatial awareness. In real-life, humans have spatial awareness by using all of their senses. They also have the ability to move their eyes to see rather than their whole head. Often times in first person, it's hard to judge the distance of your character to zombies or objects nearby. The same can be said for first person in vehicles (tunnel vision much?). Also, first person on a bike or motorcycle is horrendous due to the bumpy terrain. Here's what I'm proposing to you... This is the biggest one I hope you'd consider trying. Move the third person camera closer to the player and more over the shoulder. It would make seeing around corners / over big walls much harder. Would it be possible to force first person view in prone? This would eliminate the issue of snipers seeing over small walls such as fire station roof. It would also eliminate the issue of being able to shoot so well in tall grass (only on servers with crosshair on). Would it be possible to give third person view a large accuracy penalty? This would make firing in third person only useful in a close quarters situation, and it would force people to aim down the sights. If anyone has feedback they would like to add, feel free to do so. Please keep it related to my suggestion only. Remember, these are just my suggestions and opinions. I'm not looking to start a giant first person vs third person thread. Let's keep it civil people. In the end, we just want a better game for everyone.
-
The real difference between DMR and AS50 is the DMR is NVG compatible, but the AS50 isn't. The AS50 however is Effective of up to 1800 range, it also able to one or two shot vehicles and shoot through most walls.
-
In regards to a number of forum posts and discussions I have seen in-game, I think that there needs to be some goals that help make survival more enjoyable. Survival is the ultimate goal, which ultimately makes people leave the chaos of the cities in search of their own havens. If we look at Maslow's Hiearchy we see that Dayz starts you at the bottom, and with a little luck and skill you can take care of your physiological needs within a couple hours. What if the game also incorporated the next level fully, that of Safety. What players end up doing is using whatever game mechanics they can to achieve this level of fulfillment - usually by building tent camps with all of their goods stored in a secret location or hiding their helicopters off map. Wouldn't it be interesting if we could improve on this to create real safety (albeit a tenuous one.) What if players could band together to restart the power plants at the major cities? Obviously this would take a significant effort involving the fixing of vehicles to transport parts and fuel, regular runs to collect wood or coal or other fuel to power the city. Why would people want to do this? Give them a good reason! Here are some possibilities: 1) Zombies will not spawn in a lit city 2) Increased spawn times 3) Factories can be used to create things 4) Atmosphere 5) Gear is safe from theft while there is power in the city (when power goes out riot ensues) An additional benefit is that survivors would flock to cities that are lit, and revel in the safety. Why is this a benefit? Because where survivors flock, bandits will follow. Bandits may even start their own cities so that they too can have a safe base of operation, but I expect they would rather hide in the darkness with NV goggles, waiting to pick off stragglers or plan an attack on the city. Sure, you might not be out gaining loot from the local military base, but you will have fulfilled the goals of the next level of the Maslow pyramid: security of body, employment, resources, morality, health, and property. I understand that this might be something impossible on 50 person servers, but it would be fun to have with ARMA3!
