Yes there is a hack that shows all players/vehicles, but our camp was in 2 very well hidden places or so we thought, you'd be surprised at the amount of people who keep server hopping in places they'd expect to find a camp. So it is possible to do it legitimately someone will find anything you hide eventually :[

1. You can't pick up the tent, but you (and anyone else) can loot it. 2. Yes, although I'm not 100% sure about the mechanics. Maybe the tent despawns and the loot stays on the ground for a while and eventually goes too. 3. Nope, vehicles stay. There's a new rule that if a vehicle is unused for a while (like a week) it will respawn, but I don't know if it's already implemented.

Hello! Something relatively strange happened last night whilst I was getting my beauty sleep. I shall explain! Myself and a few friends have a camp north of the map that holds several varied vehicles; multiple Land Rovers, UAZs, ATVs, Urals, and Motorbikes. We all decided to jump into the land rover and head down to Chernogorsk to pick up some car parts as we had found a white pick-up truck, whilst doing this we experienced bad lag but still managed to get everything. We headed back to where we found the broken vehicle, fixed it up and then hid both the land rover and the pick-up deep into the trees near the barn that it was located. (No-where near our actual camp and well off the beaten track). I logged on this morning to find both of the vehicles missing and instead was a blue Ural Civilian truck surrounded by barb wire and hedgehogs. I didn't think much of it and jumped in and drove off, after further inspection the truck was actually ours, all of our equipment was inside. Somehow someone managed to find our very well hidden camp, proceeded to take the blue Ural, left the other 10 vehicles/tents alone then drove directly to the Land Rover and white pick-up on the other side of the map. The loss of the vehicles isn't a problem as we have replacements, it's just the fact that it seems near impossible to find two very well hidden locations. If this was all done legitimately, I highly recommend the person who did this to play the lottery. Is there a known hack/script that would allow someone to see the locations of vehicles on their map? Happy gaming! -B

Can someone please clarify these questions. 1. If you place a tent and you die, the ten will exist for like 7 days? But your new character can not pick up the tent. Which means you will need to find a new tent, or lose your stuff stored in the tent? 2. When the tent despawns, will all the items despawn with it? 3. If you die, what happens to a saved vehicle? Will it despawn, do I need to find it again and save it one more time?
-
I suggest we have a new utility item, a hose that can be used to refill vehicles and helicopter full in a single operation. The mechanics for it would be to park the vehicle close enough to a gas tank, use the item and wait some time for the refueling, proportional to the vehicle.

Germany 10 "Abusive" admins ruining gameplay
Metalhead (DayZ) replied to altemio's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is true, and twice I've been subjected to this. I discovered their camp. And I've been to it twice within 24hrs. Of course, once I met up with a friend, we made sure their camp was completely ransacked and plundered. Even the barbed wires and steel hedgehogs were gotten rid of. We also shot out the wheels of the remaining vehicles in the camp. All of this was 'retribution' for yesterday. When a similar incident happened. This is appalling behaviour on the server owners part, and I don't think it should be tolerated. -
On two seperate occasions over the last 24hrs the owner/s of the 'Germany 10' server have purposefully shut down their server when they have been killed & their camp/s ransacked. This has been both destroying the gameplay of those playing on this public server, because they've lost something when someone killed them. To be more specific, they have their own camp where they have been hording weapons, equipment and vehicles. This first event happened at 16:20 BST on the 23/06/12, and resulted in most of the looted equipment to be lost, as they restarted before most of it could be saved. The following day (Today, 24.06/12), we discovered they had brought their server back up, and what surprised us was they hadn't moved the camp, so we waited for them to leave and wrecked havoc, plundering their possessions. In the meantime they had all died, and we suspect they had lost their Military offroad, and at around 16:40 BST they somehow managed to find us (We'd traveled 5-6km away from the camp, and we made certain we weren't followed. When we got to our destination, we noticed they were coming towards us, so they came from the opposite direction) We killed them, and almost instantly after they were killed, one of them logged out, after somehow surviving, then the server shut down, and at 17:28 BST, still isn't up. This server is a 25 slot server, and around 20 other players were playing on there, their gameplay unrelated to our actions and the server owner's actions, so when they restarted, their gameplay was interrupted, and possibly destroyed, depending on what they may have aquired. So, is this what we are to expect, going to a public server like this? I would have thought better than this from a server owner, but it turns out they are acting like mere children. Serjey S. Bernard AberdoOsS Jinzo(?) One or two others, though I've forgotten the names. Those are the names of the group, and usually Serjay S. is logged into admin, or one of the others are.

Joking right? I was north of berezino when i got killed. I lost some nice equipment/weapons at the time. Disappointed as I was I went back to where we last saw our vehicles, resupplied and went on with our business, only to die another time, losing the rest of my stuff. If this is about the quad we took from your camp, that's all part of the game. If this is not the case I'd like to know how you got to the conclusion to ban me. The logs don't lie

Vehicle Spinning in circles
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No Arma II vehicles drive fine, I've drove a bus fine too in Day Z, it was the ATV that would only go forward or reverse in 360 spins -
Everyone in here is just jumping to conclusions and only digesting the facts THEY want to hear. I'm debating if there is a point to this post because every player WANTS to crusade as victims of admin abuse, people are too willing to jump to that conclusion. Look how many hollow admin abuse threads there are. All I can do is say we didn't act out of frustration. I've told you in this thread (the part you read and chose to ignore) we've lost everything many times and it doesn't bother us nearly bad enough to start banning people. We learned from the beginning not to get attached in this game. Again, I can just say it, can't prove that we didn't act out of frustration. This game does not offer any way to truly tell if someone is cheating so what are we to do when we suspect it? We truly believed someone was running around rapidly locating vehicles using the cheat I posted, we banned the two players and went immediately to the forum to message them and did (again, before he even posted). I just wanted anything close to a reasonable explanation so that I could lift the ban, within minutes. Instead everything has been handled immaturely, assumptions have been jumped to. People are attacking our Ventrilo (while I type this even). Like I said everyone WANTS to cry ADMIN ABUSE, so they'll chose the things they want to hear in order to say it. I've read things in this thread that don't even pertain to our situation, such using a post to locate their camp (back in time?), bases being raided with flashlights (was never night or flashlights involved when we found the base), people saying we can TELL THE SERVER what time of day to be (again, we don't have control over that). And there was a glitch several patches ago that sometimes vehicles wouldn't show up, and restarting the server would resolve it. Someone asked for a server restart in all-chat, we notified everyone, restarted and it resolved the glitch for them. The vehicles were not "lost" or "destroyed" but people chose to make those facts up; They just hear what they want to hear. I actually remember laughing about our other base being raided while we had the new vehicles saying "Well we can't be sad if these get stolen since we stole them ourselves." So again, we didn't do anything because we wanted to defend the vehicles we found an hour ago. I'll give them all the credit and say it's as simple as a misunderstanding at best, bans are not permanent, within a few minutes and one private message they would have been unbanned and should be proud about how clever they were. I would have apologized for the SLIGHT INCONVENIENCE (not exactly cutting toes off here) and given them all the credit in the world knowing it now! Instead our servers have been attacked and people refuse to cooperate. They keep confusing the situation. As this thread has turned to bickering, inaccurate accusations, when it could have just been a simple explanation and resolution, there really is no point to posting and explaining ourselves any more. Sorry for the mess, couldn't predict people would handle a situation so poorly.

The server Admin, PeaC, restarted the server EU73 after I killled him. I looted his body, and found Night Vision Goggles and a GPS, along with a lot of other good loot, and as I can guess, him being a poor sport restarted the server in hopes of A.) not saving the stuff I took and B.) his death would not be registered. I'm not sure why he did it, but it seems too odd that he restarted the server RIGHT after I looted his body. I don't have any exact evidence, but I was either kicked from the server, or he restarted it as I can't find it in the list anymore. If any of the Dev team can track server restarts, the server was restarted at approx. 11:53 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, and his death couldn't have been but 5 minutes prior. I'm sure, since you have the leaderboards, you can see that he died at approximately that time, and that the server was restarted shortly after. NOTE - I also had two vehicles that my friends and I were traveling with, I spawned in to check on them, saw him running over a hill, shot him, looted his body, and I believe he restarted so he could just come back and steal the vehicles for himself. Server Admin - PeaC Server - EU73 Again, I don't have any VISUAL proof, but I'm sure the Devs for DayZ have some way of confirming what I have said. I was in the TeamSpeak with some friends as well and they can support my claims, as I was talking about seeing him as soon as he came into my sights.

Classes in DayZ (let the shitstorm commence)

Pretty good, actually. As long as you can do everything with any class (repairing vehicles etc etc bla bla), why not? -
More Challenging PvP and the Zombie Zerging
MissBehave replied to MissBehave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it would really add some longevity and interest to those players that 'Have all the vehicles and weapons'. Seems the mode is get all the weapons then head to cherno to shoot everyone that just came off the beach. Seems to me that allowing for some combat to evolve, it would be more risky for those with the toys and create something interesting for those that are geared to go up against equally geared players. -
Why people hate clans... Epic ambushes of course!
Disgraced replied to Hidden (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I hate them because they horde vehicles, usually off map, and usuaally with a coordinated server restart. But I think in a lot of cases, they or their admin pal are paying for the servers, so I just think of it as haves and have nots, since I've never been beset by any clan. Of course, I don't connect to a server if there are more than two clan tagged individuals present. I think that's why I have so few problems with hackers, admin shenanigans and restarts. -
ok so server admin rebooted server, all vehicles/tents respawned with the previous gear in and locations
-
Firstly its quite possible for servers to switch between day and night cycles, how else do you think its possible for places like the UK to have daytime (in-game) servers running during the evening (irl). Secondly you just admitted to restarting the server to help others get back lost/destroyed vehicles, so case closed, that's an exploit and an abuse of admin power.
-
It is funny that I come here looking for information on server admin abuse and I find this thread. I have no knowledge of the above event but I have played on multiple servers that suddenly switched to night and other suspicious events that I thought was server side abuse with loot or vehicles being respawned or restarted. I guess this is a rampant problem when admins invest time, feeling, and have power over a server. This thread is a very intersting read for multiple reasons First you have admins, who felt they where banning a group of hackers and serving the community (supposedly) 2nd you have an ambitious group of players that used public information to find and loot the hard work of a group of players that happen to be admins (or they cheated and deserved the ban) I would like to know how the admin group was feeling when they issued the ban. Anger or frustration had to influence the decision to ban at least a little. That to me is the core problem, since neither group can prove anything beyond he said she said( actually I believe the players here didn't cheat they have a solid defense). so this is clearly an abuse of power that any legal system worth a damn would laugh at and dismiss any charges brought up against them. Do you think that the group of players would be banned if they did this to any other group but the admin group ? I highly doubt any action would be taken against them. This is more of a growing problem than any other alpha bug out there. Hackers will be caught and banned, eventually, server admins can hide behind the power they have and manipulate their server to give unfair advantages over all other players. TLDR version: admins acted out of frustration and banned players without proof, black list and disallow them from hosting any other servers. They will only abuse power again and kill the growth of this community over time. Who wants to play a sandbox type game when you are only allowed a bucket of sand while others have a mountain and will not allow you to steal some of their sand?

Okay so you can make a little campfire to cook food and keep warm but in a zombie survival situation fire has so many more uses that so far have been left out of DayZ. While I imagine its pretty fiddly to put in the mod, the dev team has already astounded us with their ability and I'm sure they could pull it off. Here are a few ways fire could enhanced in into DayZ. I'll start with the bread and butter survival stuff and then move on to harnessing fire as a lethal force. You don't need a hatchet to make a campfire! And you can't light logs with matches! I think the campfire mechanic should be expanded a bit: You can either gather sticks or cut wood. Gathering sticks means you can make a small campfire that provides some warmth and you can cook a raw meat for every bundle of sticks you load the fire up with. In wind or rain you may need several attempts to get a fire going, using up more matches. Cutting wood means you can build on this smaller campfire (i.e. use the sticks as kindling) to make a campfire which will cook lots of raw meat and provide lots of warmth. You could have completely new mechanic, which is sorely missing, and that's a gas stove. Much more reliable, stealthy and efficient than a wood fire. Virtually no smoke. Stove fits on the tool-belt, gas canister (comes in small and large) is a magazine (and, incidentally, can explode if put in fire or can be used to make IEDs). Also would like to see some of the much bigger canisters/refill canisters would are used to make much bigger IEDs and refill smaller canisters. Matches/lighter still needed to light the stove. Matches should be limited. I've noticed the lovely little green bar running down the side of magazines in the inventory, wondered if this could be applied to a box of matches on the tool-belt. Maybe 50 matches in a small box and 100 in a large one. Also add lighters. Cheapo crappy plastic lighters: found everywhere, 50 lights, not windproof. Zippo lighter: more rare, 100 lights, more windproof. Mil-grade jet lighter: rare, 150 lights, fully windproof. Fire attracts zombies! So be careful if you're lighting a campfire. Big campfires have a bigger attraction range and create more smoke. Fire creates smoke! And not just the piddly little plume that we currently see coming out of a camp fire. If the wind is up then it'll blow sideways but on a still day it will rise high into the air, giving away your position to bandits. However campfires should create relatively little smoke compared to burning cars or tires. Smoke could be lethal, and a symptom that your character is suffering from smoke inhalation would be violent coughing. Got a sniper holed up on the top floor of an apartment block? Just pile a few car tires at the bottom, douse them in petrol and smoke him out. On that note wind is also missing. I've noticed the dev team are currently playing with weather and how it affects hearing and visual. Wind could obscure zombie hearing but quicken heat loss. The sound of the wind howling would greatly add to the ambiance. The Jerry Can mechanic should be greatly enhanced. Firstly make it a magazine, holding 20 rounds (litres). Then it can be filled with water and taken back to base and 20 1 litre water bottles can be filled from it. Tada - another way to promote teamplay. Alternatively, you could top up a car with only 10 litres of fuel and save the rest. Or you could use it in the way I will describe next: Petrol is flammable! Jerry cans should be a lot more useful than just for refueling vehicles and filling water bottles up. It would be great if you could douse the ground in petrol and then set it on fire, creating a barrier which would set fire to zombies, start forest fires, damage vehicles or even set buildings alight. The douse mechanic could work as follows: you can drop a maximum of 20 small 1 litre puddles from a full jerry can of petrol so you can make the fire barrier the shape and size you want it. You then light one puddle and puddles touching it will catch and the fire will spread. Other objects should be flammable! Firstly let me start off by saying there's a difference between car wheels and spare tires. Spare tires should take up less weight and space than wheels and should fix flat tires while car wheels should repair completely shredded wheels but not tires. Okay so tires should be flammable. And they should create a hell of a lot of smoke. A car tire and petrol fire barrier would be far deadlier than just a petrol one, but a lot less subtle! Buildings could be flammable. Maybe not all of them and maybe not non-enterable buildings. When I say this I can't help but think of the last episode of series 2 of the Walking Dead when Rick and Carl douse the barn in petrol and set it on fire to kill and distract some of the zombies. A few ways of setting barns on fire: -Douse it in petrol -Set hay on fire (hay-bales should be also flammable and a brilliant way to distract zombies from an area) -Throw a molotov at it. And that brings me onto Molotovs. And more importantly, a crafting mechanic, which I'm sure has been discussed elsewhere in the suggestions. A few fire-related crafting ideas: -Bottle + Petrol (filled from Jerry Can ofc! :D) + Rag (filled from Jerry Can ofc! :D) = Molotov -IEDs! A mixture of gas canisters, nails, grenades, dynamite, circuitry, car/motorbike batteries, petrol jerry cans, ammonium nitrate, rocket sparkers and remote devices could make a variety of IEDs. FIRE SHOULD BE LETHAL! You should be able suffer from fire. If you're especially unlucky you might catch fire and have to roll to extinguish the flames. Zombies should also be susceptible to fire. They'll frenzy for a few seconds and then die. ***I once did a suggestion about zombie herds. The idea being there are maybe a dozen herds of varying sizes (10-100) that wander around the map and can be attracted to certain stimuli if they are in range such as gunshots, FIRE, SMOKE, vehicles etc. It would be important that the don't just suddenly aggro and run like crazy but rather wander towards the stimulus to investigate it and then if they discover a player then, well, all hell breaks loose. This also brings me on to another suggestion which is a change in zombie aggro behaviour. It is unrealistic that zombies suddenly run like crazy on hearing a gunshot. At the same time the aggro range for zombies from gunshots is also unrealistically small. A sniper rifle shot would be heard by zombies for hundreds of metres. What I suggest is zombies at closer range will walk towards the sound of the shot and then on visual/hearing confirmation of the player himself would aggro. This would encourage players to fire from cover from zombies, or quickly move on after firing a shot as zombies will be inbound on their previous location. At longer range only a few zombies might investigate. And there is always the risk of drawing a herd, eek! Other thread about herds: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3829

This guy (the hacker not Kai) can change his character into a dog or zombie and run around with their animations. He also spawns vehicles and fly/drives them around. Script detection fail or maybe he really is a member of the dev. team.
-
As mentioned vehicles and tents (anything bound to a server really) is currently buggy and unstable - this is very much work in progress territory.
-
Hell there. I'm a European bandit and as the title says, I look for likeminded people. I really just want to go around, getting loot, vehicles etc. and slaying what/who ever we find. I like coordinated teamplay, as I think it's a lot of fun. So if you're into raiding towns with a group, add me on skype: "cpteleon"
-
No, everyone running around with vehicles? No thank you. Mine as well just make a server thats more like a race track and a demolition derby than a survival game. It's survival meant to be on foot. Not cower in a car, or drive away when the shit starts to hit the fan. The concept is good just won't work well with this mod.

VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
Gunni (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Is there still errors on vehicles not loading? Was next to my moped before server restart, and it disappeared after restart was over -
I think if he bound them to tents or vehicles, they would be fine. Also, there can be a server side limit and plugins to prevent trolling like in Minecraft. Also, its a piece of paper. Step outside the box and think about how insignificant they could be in proportion to the size of the map. ;)
