  1. Yeti (DayZ)

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

A game to accommodate the world you describe can never exist. It would be literally filled with millions of objects. Too bad someone didn't make a mil-sim that simulated huge battlefields that are kilometers big with dynamic interactions, vehicles, AI with guns that have adjustable skill levels, maybe even mod it with a random loot system. If I made one like that I would call it ARMA or something. Too bad it can never exist though.

    My DayZ experience and issue.

What's the best way to go about searching for vehicles? Logically I assumed the odds would be better farther inland due to the fact more players are on the coast = more likely vehicle has been claimed. Should I stick to main roads? Also, how do I identify a repairable vehicle? Will it have mouse wheel options? That's what I have been looking for. Thanks for the feedback thus far and thanks to those of you who read the whole story. ;)

    The Biggest Problems

Hmmm, 1) Snipers may be the weapon of the preying bandit, but they are also used for scouting, covering others from a distance, and just clearing an area of zombies without getting aggro. If anything, I think more weapons of every type should be introduced. On bandits in general though that just shoot on sight, I think they need to be easily recognizable again, the bandit skin was great, it was a punishment for killing other players, something that makes other survivors shoot on sight and never trust you, you sacrificed the entire idea of meeting friendly survivors, because they know just by appearance, that you kill other players. People actively hunted bandits down as a sport, which was fantastic. Now though, with just the glitchy heartbeat thing, it's hard to know who you can trust and who you can't, especially at distance, which is making everyone just shoot on sight and abandon the idea of making friends and grouping with strangers, it's too dangerous. PvP can still be a part of DayZ, but personally, I think "bandits" need to be recognizable by appearance. So people might think twice about turning into a bandit since you would become fair game. 2) That system you described isn't good... 5 minutes is a long time, you'd never know if the next time you booted the game up you'd be a new character or not. To avoid disconnecting in combat, a simple 10 second counter would be enough, to quit, you'd need to stand still for 10 seconds, which will be interrupted by any movement or being shot/hit. So you always need to find somewhere safe to disconnect. And if someone forced a quit, their character would stay behind, standing still where it was for 10 - 15 seconds. So it wouldn't be an option to disconnect in the heat of battle. Server hopping is a harder issue to solve, but anything as harsh as a 5 minute timer would also punish people just finding a better server, or disconnecting because of a glitch or because the server happens to be night time (which many don't like), it would be rageworthy needing to wait 5 minutes between joining servers. Especially if your character was out of your hands and vulnerable for all of that time. 3) Stashing vehicles is a problem I agree, but I think the solution lies more with respawn rates than anything. Having proper map boundries would be good. But additionally I think the spawn rates for vehicles should be much shorter... If someone takes a vehicle, I'd want a new one spawned there within 2 hours, even with the other vehicle still on the map. Which gives the potential for servers to have many vehicles operating at the same time, they are a too rare at the moment in my opinion, I can't see any harm in having more vehicles on the map, so they become a less rare sight. I have played for hours every day for the past 5 days on full servers and I have seen no vehicles of any kind, anywhere. I also think Bicycles should become a lot less rare than vehicles, even if they were slightly broken and needed just a Toolbox to fix, every town should have a bicycle, realistically the majority of homes would own atleast one bicycle, so I don't think they should be that rare. 4) A single difficulty is fine with me. Also, how can name tags be abused?, is it just like looking around the landscape until a green name pops up, so it lets you spot people?, lowering it to 50m would be fine, so you could identify people who are around you. How can 3rd person be abused? o_O, I enjoy using it, I like seeing myself, anything one player can do with 3rd person, any other player can do, so it's a level playing field. I agree with the NVG being removed, unless there was more ways to see in the night, like floodlights, power etc...so they become less essential in the dark. I have never used GPS so I don't know what it offers, but if it's just a GPS like in real life, which lets you see yourself, and only yourself on the map moving around, then that isn't a problem.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Bear Traps..... Don't Care either way However 3 Major Exploits are destroying the game-play at the moment. 1: Alt-F4. I know its been tried, but we need a revisit of 10-20 second delay on logging out/altf4 . Too many players brazenly ignore zombies/kill players knowing that they are instantly safe by de-spawning zombies and no player retaliation. 2: Server hopping. Its too easy to get good gear by going to a good spot such as military tents /airfield / barracks etc and then logging in and out of multiple servers until you find what you want without actually having to travel anywhere. (Possible Fix) Changing servers resets your location to the beach like a re-spawn. Encourages people to play on a regular server and build a reputation and also play through the day/night cycle instead of just swapping to a day server. 3: Off map camps. Ive been playing on the same server for a month and never seen a repairable vehicle or one in use. It IS a server with them enabled but they have all been taken and stashed in off-map camps. This is effectively removing content from the game for the majority of the player base. (Possible Fix) All tents and vehicles are destroyed after 1 hour of inactivity when outside the map of Chernarus. (Alternate fix) Increase the number of vehicles in the game but decrease the spawn-rate of vehicle parts. More difficult, less impossible. And lastly, and not related to anything, increase the day/night cycle rapidly. I play for 4 hours at the same time every night. So without deliberatly server swapping, i only see the SAME 4 hours everytime, and never experience the dynamic and changing lighting and different playstyles.

    Cammo netting for tents

Not just for tents but for vehicles too. That'd be awesome.
  6. Releak

    My DayZ experience and issue.

Text too long, but I read the end.. There are no servers where vehicles remains unclaimed, and most servers are restarted frequently to maintain performance. The European FR 2 is one example. Restarts every 230mins I think.
  7. ZedsDeadBaby

    My DayZ experience and issue.

I've found ~12 vehicles in the last 21 days. Keep looking. They're out there. Plenty of other threads on this topic with similar replies. The wiki's don't have a complete map. Nobody does. I know this because half the vehicles I found don't appear on any of the maps. Vehicles do not spawn on server restart. They respawn on a "secret interval" which will not be revealed for obvious reasons (camping spawns).
  8. Disgraced

    Vehicle respawn rate?

The vehicles will respawn at those locations if they are unused for some undisclosed number of days, I believe put forward by rocket as less than 7. Unfortunately, in most cases, clans have taken them off map and you will not find them to steal. They make sure to keep them in use, so they will basically only respawn if they are destroyed, and then they just restart the server to get them back at the last save point or go and get them again. Some servers, you can apparently find vehicles. I have never found a land vehicle in many hours of searching, except a bicycle RIGHT after the big 'vehicle fix' went in. Most of the time, I forget they exist and busy myself with .... other pursuits...

    Vehicle respawn rate?

for certain vehicles that spawn at a fixed location, do they respawn after a certain period when someone has taken the vehicle? if so, how long is the respawn time?
  10. I have a large group of players that has chosen US91 as our home server, and we play on there almost every day. We have a camp set up that we worked very hard for, and we don't want to hop servers again. Why would we want to? Because as more time goes on, the server just seems to be a little broken here and there. I'm hoping that by posting this, it can get some Dev attention, or at least an experienced server admin to help the current admins out. I have talked to LVG extensively about the server and he basically says "We need to wait on a Dev, we don't know what the problem is." So here's what my group and I have noticed about US91: - Direct Communication does not work. Neither VON or Chat. The current server admin is aware of this issue. - Time of Day is very wonky. I don't know what the time zone for the server is, but we can log in very late at night and it still be light out. We can also log out when it's getting dark, and when we log back in, it's magically light out for another half hour or so. - Zed spawning/Loot spawning was VERY off last night. I had done the re-log trick a few times to get some more visibility, and something was very off about Zed and Loot spawns. I hit up the NE Airfield, and there was NOTHING of value whatsoever, but then the Krasnostav general store had 2 pairs of Binocs and THREE Maps? Something's wrong here. - Vehicles don't seem to be spawning. We ran around half the continent last night, checking everywhere from Gorka to Elektro to Tulga to Berezino...NOTHING. We had TWO teams at one time checking separate locations, and not a vehicle to be found. We haven't checked the western part of the world yet, but I'm not expecting anything. I think something has to be wrong with the vehicle spawns. I've spent considerable time on the server, and I also have never seen another player vehicle. That's just about it, but those are some pretty big bugs. I really hope that our server can get some help, because we don't want to have to server hop yet again in hopes of finding a stable server =/

Indeed. Realism? I materialize on the coast of a country full of the undead, wearing body armour and empty leg rigs, can operate any weapons I find, heal any laceration with a bandage, mend a broken femur with morphine, carry helo rotors in my pocket, repair vehicles with junk yet I can't melee unless I have a hatchet or crowbar? "I have Word-Class weapon training but how do I use fist?" Edit: Also I rematerialize when I die and can loot my body. Right now you can't call this Mod entirely realistic, just a simulator. I do love it, it's just easy to lose the feeling of realism the second I can't rifle stroke a Zed. Side Note: However if there was a reason for having little equipment... Infiltration all weapons and gear OSP had to do an objective then exfiltrate... Come back with some bonus item or loot. Make it nigh-impossible to do alone, boom teamwork reward. Side note to the side note: This is Alpha-Stage, save it for the Beta.

    Vehicle respawn rate?

The spots dont "respawn" traditionally like in battlefield. There is a set amount of vehicles on the map, placed by devs and then activated on all servers, after the predetermined vehicle spawns like a few weeks ago with the db vehicle reset, no other vehicles will spawn. That vehicle will only respawn after a restart if it is destroyed. and it will usually respawn where it was destroyed or saved or fixed. So chances are if you check a spot and its empty, you wont see one there ever again unless you are the first person there after a database vehicle reset. At least i think thats how it works. Go steal a car.
  13. Great story! This is part of why I love DayZ! I hope you enjoy part two of my story. I just posted it up on my blog! DayZ Vehicles: How My Vehicle Obsession Eventually Cost Us Everything – Part Two
  14. Hello everyone, I just posted up a new blog article about our adventures in DayZ and finding our first vehicle. This is part one of a two part story, where the vehicle discovery fuels an "El Dorado-esque" obsession to search out the safety and security of DayZ vehicles. Drive it like you stole it, y'all. Enjoy! DayZ Vehicles: How My Vehicle Obsession Eventually Cost Us Everything – Part One
  15. I know its long but I think its worthwhile;) There does not seem to be much fear from infected. After awhile they become an annoyance when in fact they should be terrifying the whole time you try to survive with your character.By adding in a few more layers to the mix you force a game changing element. That is fear of getting bitten and then slowly getting infected yourself. If bitten you could get a bite icon which itself slowly turns red until you yourself are infected and turn.Make it so that it takes a while to turn so that you can try to get antibiotics to cure yourself.Maybe 8 real time hours. This should give you time to plan a strategy to find some meds by visiting hospitals or maybe even trading with players.Could also make colds factor in where if you get sick from elements then the time to turning is lessened to 4 hours. Next is to make food more rare.By making food/drink more rare players are forced into making trips to small villages by necessity with larger cities giving more food spawns but higher chance to get bitten for you and your friends.Crawling around small villages that have less infected just to have a chance at finding some food and water should be a large part of this game from start and well after getting the best gear.Afterall, this part of DayZ is brilliant in itself!!! Think small groups now having to band together to enter towns since now u have a chance of getting bitten and that causes a totally new game tactic to emerge.Small towns become guns blazing affairs since you do not want to get bitten!! ;) Large towns now become better targets since they have more food PLUS the meds.....but of course more infected.Would this be terrifying if this were to happen in real life?Yes because while the swarm potential is bad,the chance of being bitten and then getting infected yourself is worse since you will slowly turn yourself into a mindless zombie walking the land looking for human flesh.Remove the broken bones in effect and make it being bitten is the bad stuff infected will do to you with the new element of a timed demise. They are just infected afterall and not super humans.Plus not being able to walk is game breaking while having to find meds with a timed penalty is immersifying. Animals in wild and drinking from ponds and lakes makes later game easy since you can survive without ever having to enter a town anymore.Bad for gameplay obviously and people would not come here and say the infamous "now that I have everything, what do I do?" line.Less animal spawns and make drinking from ponds and lakes giving a chance to get sick and hence much more susceptible to the infection.Easy cure for the easiness that stems from a canteen and a knife.Maybe a new spawn is water purifier pills? Military hot spots should be were players go to get the good stuff.Everything and I mean everything from vehicles, weapons, large ammo spawns to even vehicles.Problem is they have no food or medical stuff so camping them is only feasible when your well stocked.I also think a good way to make military infected harsher is to give them armor so that headshots are the feasible way to kill them. Since fear of being bitten is on top priority,I think spawning players should get a few cokes and some candy bars in their bags and the advice to head north and try their best to not get bitten. :P Also,I think the canteen should hold 3 drinks while being rarer to spawn. This will make it seem precious since the food stuffs are rarer. What do you guys think? Could be helping a squad mate to get some meds and the sick players screen is getting all blurry but he does not say a word about it for fear of being killed.LOL Then when the time nears and no sight of meds you could have player start randomly mumbling/screaming like the infected do at which point players around them just open fire.

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

How many vehicles are at their original spawns? On say.. Any server really. Or an average would be cool too.
  18. A couple friends and I have been doing some recon on a couple servers that are run by one clan (they killed one of our friends), and we finally made our move. Last night we found their ural parked, waited for it to drive away, shot the driver out, got in and started driving it when we get "No message recieved..." We think wtf! We've been watching them move in and out of town for 45 minutes waiting for our moment to strike! We hop back to one of their other servers where we have a car and some tents with a pretty nice pile of gear and decide to get retribution on them for pulling the plug on the first server. My sniper friend and I manage to take out 3 or 4 of them at their tent city, and steal away with some gear and drop it off at our camp site. I logged in earlier and everything was fine, looted some choppers and came back to camp when "No message recieved..." pops up. When the server came back online, all of our tents and vehicles had disappeared and all of our hard work over the past week was destroyed. I had no idea admins were able to basically 'erase' the server that way, and they didn't even post a message in chat about the server resetting beforehand. Very frustrating. I know that restarting a server in order to save your stuff is considered admin abuse and grounds for blacklisting, but I don't know about wiping a server clean. :/ Unfortunately this is the only screenshot I managed to nab when we stole their Ural:
  19. Everyone has one. And nobody's is the same, from what I've seen on these forums. Mine is the NVGs. I've had literally every piece of gear that I've wanted in my two weeks (6/17/12 was my first day on Day Z) of playing. I've found tents, vehicles, ghillie, M107(two at one heli crash), AS50(Gave to a friend), Mk 48 (Twice, Gave to a friend), FN FAL, FN FAL NightSight, M14(Twice, my favorite weapon), PDW, G17, MP5 SD, M4 CCO, M4 M203, AK Kobra. my friends that I roll with have had M24, SVD, M4 SD, Bizon SD. Together we have found two vans, a red sedan, probably 10 atvs by now, a UAZ, and a blue truck. Most of which are lost, stolen, or crashed. I have had ghillie probably four out of every five of my lives, not counting shitspawn respawns. I see people asking where to find these items on the forums ALL THE TIME, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one who seems to find at least some moderately rare stuff within a day of playing a new character.

    Bush tracking

Good idea.. The game already places tyre tracks and foot prints in the ground when you walk or drive. Grass is flattened by players and vehicles as well but comes back up quite quickly. Just depends on your gfx settings if they show or not. If i remember right. Im sure they could be tweaked to show more and stay longer. Adding a cover your tracks option would be great aswell. +1 for this
  22. alexander_q

    Bush tracking

A good start would be: -Eating canned food leaves an empty tin can behind. You're free to pick it up and take it with you if you wish. -Weapons leave bullet casings. -Eating meat leaves scraps. -Vehicles leave tire tracks. -Dead animals and fireplaces are slower to despawn.
  23. Hi, my name is Stareon, I'm a 21 years old english speaking guy from Hungary. I'm looking to join to a somewhat organised, or at least active clan, with raiding purposes, repairing vehicles. I usually kill everyone on sight when I'm alone, just because I experienced my surviving chances are much higher like that. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to help survivors/kill bandits. I'm here to have fun, meet some people, and last but not the least, shoot some zeds in the FACE. I have some friends who might join the clan with me, all of the are mature, english speaking with microphone. Any questions? Shoot

Regarding the bear traps. Will they Damage Vehicles? If yes how much, broken wheel? If a bycicle runs through it how much damage it will do to the "driver"? Hope you considered all of this stuff rocket.

    UK 87 Mischief

This server went down (off the server list anyway) and when it came back up are vehicles were gone and rare items from our tents were gone. I found one of our M24's lying on the ground when I logged in (as soon as the server went up). Is it possible the Admin can take the server off the list and do this? I'll say that the vehicles we had were mainly stolen(?) as we found a lot of them in bushes a few K from our base which would be a motive. If it is possible then all we plan to do is switch server. It would be hard to get evidence of this being done.
