    Tent city levelled.

I've got no problem with gear being stolen.. if you weren't illiterate you probably would've read that.. or maybe you jumped in on page 4 or 5, thought you already knew everything and quoted someone as saying something they never even said.. It wouldn't be the first time someone on a forum was a complete idiot... The point is blowing up other people's tents does nothing for anyone.. you want realism but you won't apply it to anything that doesn't suit you, so at what point does a game become just a game? If there isn't a way for people to keep collecting and distributing gear long term, then there will be no reason for anyone to play the game past the point where they are walking around with an AS50 with 5 mags, have an L85AWS in their backpack with plenty of ammo, a silenced mp5 pistol, GPS, MULTIPLE vehicles which carry more than 1 passanger... etc.... (and yes i have all that.) If you think I'm soft, you just haven't had the displeasure of me destroying you and your friends quite yet, because I can guarantee you I'm one of the biggest bandits on these boards.. I can simply admit there's a point where griefing is just pointless, and this is that point.
  2. Teaming already provides: -The ability to use bloodbags -The ability to use epipens -More firepower -More eyes -The abillity to bandage a friend that is unconcious -Having a friend watch over the area while you loot -Sharing tents -Sharing vehicles -Sharing ammo -Only 1 person on your team needs tools for your whole team to benefit. -More inventory space while looting. I think teaming is fine personally. I don't team with random people since I have friends to play with and I am kind of opposed to having incentives to team with random people since it's quite likely I'll get shot in the back at some point. Even with the changes you mentioned, I would still only team with the same people and not randoms.

    Bus Driver's Union

BUS DRIVER'S UNION MEETS BLOODY TRAVELS CHERNARUS - Two members of [bUS] met with an unfortunate fate last night as a routine vehicle scavenging run became anything but routine. Travelocity, co-founder of the Bus Driver's Union, accompanied with navigator Driver, was engaged in a daily route to Vybor, a known bus spawn location. ►As the Union members exited the Northwest airfield towards Vybor, a hostile group of five bandits emerged from the nearby brush and immediately opened fire on the neutral vehicle, a [bUS]-owned S1203 van. In response, Travelocity made great efforts towards evading the attackers but their shotgun and assault rifle bullets proved too much for the fragile civilian-vehicle hull, ultimately stopping and exploding the van and its passengers. ►"It was unbelievable. We were just on a regular run in normally peaceful territory, looking for engine parts and repairable vehicles to add to our fleet, when out of nowhere came these heartless raiders, intent on taking our [meager] supplies. Sadly, we lost the numbers game in that confrontation, as five guns beats one paper-thin hull," said Travelocity. ►Travelocity was immediately vaporized in the fiery combustion, but Driver was able to escape the wreckage within a mere inch of his life, and bandage his wounds in the nearby barn. With nothing to lose and a friend to avenge, Driver took to the offensive and crippled the bandit regime with clever use of the surrounding terrain and the long-range combative capability of the AK74 KOBRA, a gun passed down from previous [bUS] members who were lost in similar bandit raids. ►"The KOBRA was the favourite weapon of the deceased co-founder, Andrew, who met his end at the wrong side of a sniper rifle, in the uptown apartments of Chernogorsk. We kept it in our [bUS] coffers until the day I decided to do his legacy justice and put down those who would choose to interfere with the everyday business of the Union," said Driver. ►After looting the beneficial tools of his fallen antagonists, Driver fled to the secret [bUS] Depot to recoup the organizations' losses and prepare to meet future members of the Union, who, along with a reborn leader, will continue to not let ruthless attacks destroy the will to drive hapless survivors from the forests of Kamenka to the mountains of Olsha. Hello fellow survivors! Written by [bUS] Driver It wasn't as visible as I thought it should be so I moved it up here. Bus Driver's Manifesto I am starting a group with a few bus brothers. Recently I found a bus with a friend and fixed it up. We proceeded to drive around from near berezino to cherno and farther south west ferrying people around with our bus. People brought parts in exchange for this and I would love to start this again. Everyone was really friendly and no shots were ever fired. However one asshole decided to try to drive away with our bus, we promptly blew the shit out of the bus and killed him. Anyway anyone who is interested in helping us can join, we need lots of parts and lots of manpower! Right now we have two atvs in our arsenal and will most likely have a boat too. LETS MAKE SURE THAT THE BUS ROUTES SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. Email me at [email protected] or fire a PM to join!

    Give more incentive to explore.

Well in a way you are rewarded by exploring the woods and deserted areas by finding player camps and vehicles that are stashed away. Could perhaps have random dead bodies with random loot in them in woods that would also spawn Zombies, like a chopper crash site or a deer stand.

    More Trap Ideas

I would really love to see a mechanic implemented to booby trap tents/vehicles. I find a tent, take whatever precious gear I want / can carry. Then rig a hand grenade to it so that the next person to open the tent explodes, destroying them, the tent, and everything inside / near by. Find a vehicle I can't use, same sort of thing, put a grenade in it, rigged to the door or something. Obviously it would need some kind of subtle indicator that it was trapped. Nothing remotely obvious or the whole point is lost, but something that if you take 10-15 seconds to inspect the thing you'll be ok. From the other side of things, maybe you have an extra gun, rig it to the door so that it fires a single shot the next time it's opened. Give it a random chance of hitting different areas of the body. So you don't always die, maybe you get shot in the arm or leg and then are free to loot. If you inspect the object in question, you can find the grenade/gun/etc and have a chance at defusing it if you want to. Obviously this could go wrong and fire anyway. Require the toolbox to set up/ take down these traps.
  6. I find it outstandingly amusing that the OP thinks he has a right to complain about his precious "hard work" being blown to bits. It's an alpha, you're supposed to test this, not hoard stuff MMORPG style. To sum it up for you: there's nothing wrong with the mechanic (tents, vehicles, everything that can be used to store stuff being destroyable), there's something wrong with you. Less hours farming, QQing on forums, more testing, comprende? /thread

should there be regular resets on characters

I think it's not a bad idea. Clean resets of all the servers (reseting vehicles, tents, etc) should be a regular thing for the sake of freshly testing the game as it changes. These new features might adjust how a server population slowly migrates and where they move to (set up camp) as they move inland. Of course you have a large percentage of the game players who are more interested in the game for their personal satisfaction than they are invovled for the greater good of the final game as a whole. Needless to say quite a few people would be upset.

    Tent city levelled.

Tents should be limited to 1 or 2 per person imo. Same with vehicles. If you acquire/save one you loose any others you have.

    Tent city levelled.

I found 2 of the big trucks a couple of days ago stocked full of sniper rifles, m4a3 sd's, 5 sets of nvg's, 5 range finders, 3 m249's, 30 mags for those alone, 5 coyote backpacks, and everything else you can think of in mass quantity. nobody was there guarding them, so I drove them south and called in a buddy to move everything off of the server, onto ours. we then moved the vehicles again, hoping to use them in the future, but if not, no biggie. On a side note, my buddy put all but 2 of the nvg's into a pack with the range finders/maps/gps. All seemed fine, but the server reset a few minutes later and the backpack was empty when we checked it again. I guess you shouldn't put things in packs in tents.

Why do vehicles erupt in balls of flame?

my thing is why the fuck zombies make vehicles explode. It doesn't even fit with the whole idea of explosions.

  12. Hello Rocket. Sorry to have to bother you with an Admin Server abuse issue, but there is one on North Carolina 4. The situation occurred on June 27th. Our team found a camp that comprised of over10+ vehicles and 10+ tents loaded to the brim with all elite weapons/gear. Our team immediately starting taking the best vehicles and gear and moving them to a new location. Shortly after this the server went down. This happened at approximately 5:30ish pm est. The server remained down until approximately 6:45ish pm est When the server came back up several people starting questioning the admin about the server going down and the key vehicles in question. Based on the admins answers and with deductive reasoning we were able to conclude that this was the server admins base. Within 10 minutes of the server coming up. We spotted a vehicle approaching us were we had moved the vehicles to before the server went down. A short battle occurred and the server admin was killed…2 secs after he died the server went down again. The server came back up pretty quick and I immediately told the admin I would report him for server abuse. He justified the server failure and stated it was not his fault and he would let our group kill him once the server was completely up. I stated this would not pacify me. When the server did come back up the admin was still dead at the battle scene. Our team immediately started to move about and heal and the server went down yet again. I again challenged the admin to what the hell he was doing. The server then came up again and three of our team members were booted from the server. Upon trying to log into the server again, these three members were are all in no man’s land and stripped completely of all gear. Shortly after this the server went down yet again. We challenged the admin to why our gear was stripped and we were booted. He justified this with some sort of ping setting and stated we would be fine once the server came back up. The server came back up and these same three members were forced to respawn as we did not have any gear and no way of knowing where we were. This admin is clearly not only abusing his power, but hording pretty much the entire servers’ vehicle spawn. This admin makes me sad. I truly hope this matter is looked into. Thanks in advance for any and all help, William
  13. hiding spots on the west or north edge of the map, on the highest hill for example are all compromised and easy to find. Stashing a small tent or a small atv or something in thick woods in the middle of the map is the only way to combat people looking for camps. Even then id say 40% of people who play this are using Hacks to find vehicles... Untill battleeye actually does a job instead of giving false sense of security. I wouldnt even bother putting a tent up or trying to hide a vehicle, it will be gone in less than 24hours.
  14. im already aware of everything dude, i just think this - as a mod, should have its own thing going on for its own feel. the only time i can see 3rd person being actually good to have is in vehicles, NOTHING else.
  15. Vehicles and tents will stay on the same server.
  16. TrackIR if your lucky enough to have it or something similar removes the need for 3dp even in vehicles. I'd imagine alt looking would work too, never tried that.
  17. I think DayZ is the first step in commercializing ARMA and has attracted a player base that otherwise wouldn’t even given the game a second thought until something ultra trendy like zombies became involved. Granted, I’m not an ARMA hipster who constantly harps against Call of Duty and consider this to be a venue for the common video gaming elitist – it isn’t. But now this game has completely lost its identity as a military simulator and has attracted a whole new breed of players who have hijacked the server list and changed the shape of ARMA forever. I’m generalizing here, but the bulk of new players haven’t gone through the tutorials and are completely upsetting the tone of the game. Your average person now doesn’t know how to lean around corners, they struggle to get in and out of vehicles and they’ll never get to fly a Mi24 unless it’s in the editor. Don’t get me wrong: I really, really like this mod. It’s truly intuitive and it couldn’t have been pulled off by anyone else other than a mind at BI who knows the game code inside out and can attract broader audiences based on what the “in” thing is. I’m a business person myself in real life, I work in marketing, and I understand how much commercial attention this has brought ARMA, but… Ah, screw it. All I’m saying is, DayZ hasn’t ruined the game, but it COMPLETELY altered ARMA and now it is known as something it never should have been! I imagine ARMA 3 will have a DayZ like feature already incorporated into the game, and it’ll be known as a survival horror, not a military simulator…

    An-2 Colt (Large Biplane)

Yup I'd rather they make it impossible to set up camps off map. That and a reduced vehicle longevity for vehicles off map, say 1 day of inactivity and it goes poof ( instead of the regular 7 day) I'll try and get a video up showing some field landings/takeoff for illustration.
  19. http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/ Vehicles RARELY explode in RL but in Dayz they ALWAYS explode.
  20. cars DO explode, just because you never saw it doesnt say its just a movie myth gasoline+high speed+sudden stop+electric parts and stuff all over the place = boom cars often catch fire or burn out after a crash, even if its not as often since the cars get safer, but old russian military cars and a hundred year old russian civillian vehicles... yes, they ought to

    The Biggest Problems

I've been playing this game since the start and these major problems have yet to be addressed, here's my take on it: 1) PVP - There's nothing wrong with killing others but, in its current state, PVP is too easy. There's really no strategy or tactics involved in finding an overpowered sniper rifle, camping a hilltop with dozens of rounds of ammo, and taking potshots at passing players. This is exactly what this game DOESN'T need - senseless killing. Solution - cut down on military weapons, remove military-grade sniper rifles altogether. Main arsenal should consist of handguns, civilian shotguns and rifles, and alternative weapons like tranquilizer guns. Excellent thread on alternative weapons http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8756 Make bandits work for their kills. Give players equal-footing weapons wise and base the outcome of a firefight on skill, tactics, awareness, etc. Not whoever has the more OP gun(mk48! .50 cal! silenced m4!). Military weapons, like AK's - m16's - mp5's, would stay in the game, but become extremely rare, with extremely rare ammo. People using these guns would come to value every bullet and seriously consider the necessity of every potential engagement. If you're going to use these rare guns, you better have a good reason to because odds are you won't find ammo for a long time afterwards. _________________________________________________________ 2) Disconnecting - self-explanatory. Server hopping is a big problem and needs to be fixed ASAP. Solution - a sleep system. Before disconnecting, players need to fall asleep. As soon as the player character enters sleep, players are free to disconnect. However, the player body will actually remain in-play for a set amount of time - like 5 mins. This way DC-ing to avoid combat would be impossible as your sleeping body could still be looted and potentially killed. Upon reconnection, players would have to wait 30 secs. or so before regaining control of their character and waking up. Disconnecting before your player enters sleep(task manager, alt+f4) doesn't save your game. You lose all progress and items since your last successful "sleep". __________________________________________________________ 3) Vehicles - clans stash vehicles off-map limiting their use by everyone else. Solution - tents and vehicles don't "save" off-map. Players can still go up and explore these areas but will not be able to stash equipment/vehicles up there. Normal players would now be able to search for and find vehicles within proper map-boundaries. Would pose a real challenge in maintaining and protecting valuable equipment and vehicles to clans. _________________________________________________________ These following changes are more controversial but I felt like listing them anyways: 1) All servers should be veteran. Players shouldn't see themselves on maps and there should be no name-tags. If possible, the range on name tags should be reduced to 10-15 meters. Groups of players would still be able to identify each other without abusing name-tag scanning. 2) Game should be 1st-person only. Arma has a 3rd person feature because it's primarily a single-player/COOP experience. All PVP gametypes and servers usually disable 3rd person because it's way too easy to abuse. 3)NVG and GPS should be removed completely. _________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________ Of course dayz is only in alpha and has a long way to go, but I think these pressing issues are capable of being, and should be, fixed as soon as possible. I'd like to know what everyone else has to think, but constructive criticism only. Any insulting/flaming posts will be reported.

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

Vehicles shouldn't be hoarded. One group of server admin buddies hoarding all the vehicles on a server is dumb.

    Shoot on Sight

Yes Rocket, make the game EVEN MORE HARDER. The harder the game - the more PVP and PK. Make vehicles MORE harder to get, so that only grouped bandits and clans can have them! Superb job!

    [1.7.1.5] Weapons in backpack disappear.

We have had numerous bugs of guns disappearing from character. I lost an AS50 today from my backpack after logging out and joining. We also can confirm three pistols that did the same thing, two m1911, 1 m9SD. We also lost a Bizon SD. We also have logged in three days in a row from three different camp locations with all loot from all tents and vehicles gone. Vehicles had full fuel so no chance someone raided three camps in three days and left vehicle three times and looted what would have taken 4 coyote packs hours to move even server hopping. Also magazines are disappearing from logging out and logging back in. When I Bizon was lost it was replaced by 10 bandages. The AS50 was replaced by 8 tin cans and 2 empty spots. If this has something to do with all the problems the introduction of hatchets and spawners with no guns, couldn't you have just left what was fine alone? Who cared if a guy spawns with a makarov. Quit listening to the noobs bean warring down in cherno and pay attention to the people who have hundreds of hours played and fix stuff that is broke and find your story again...

    Is duping officially allowed?

its tacitly supported by the developers by their inaction. they could simply wipe out all tents and vehicles. it would not solve the root issue but it would drastically reduce the effects of duping pretty much right away.
