    Tents still duping/losing items 1.7.1.5

Happened to me and my group. Around 14 tents of mega weapons saved up from weeks along with several vehicles. Come on next day 5 vehicles gone and some tents lost all loot, Thought we got robbed but then why take everything in some tents and not other good guns and vehicles. Then all tents lost items so we asked the server admin to look into it. All fixed, except vehicles. Next day everything was gone. Set up new tents on another server yestarday, lost all items again... pointless.
  2. Scroll to the bottom for TL;DR/My main concern. So recently a friend of mine convinced me to purchase the Combined Operations Arma 2 package. I was reluctant at first however the zombie mod he mentioned to me seemed intriguing. I caved in a matter of minutes and began installation of both games. The first thing I did was run the two games, exit, then immediately begin installing the DayZ mod. I had the debug forest issue my first sign in, looked for solution and found one within a few hours. I had finally signed into DayZ for the first time! My first goal, was to find my friend. Which...through a series of respawns/aborts, we managed to get close enough to eachother to hoof it. Everything was going well, I was getting a feel for the controls...learned the usefulness of ALT! After numerous deaths to zombies and regrouping attempts I had finally really hit my groove...being able to navigate the map with stealth, searching buildings undetected and just plain having a damn good time. After what was probably close to 4 hours of fooling around and learning the game my friend and I decided to set ourselves a goal...to get a bicycle! I searched possible spawn locations for the bicycles and before I knew it we were well on our way...scouring a few coastal locations with no luck and eventually moving inland hoping for more success. Around Stary Sobor sadly I lost my friend...He had made the grave mistake of firing off his rifle in the supermarket while backed into a corner. He was trapped in a sectioned off portion of the building with only 1 entrance/exit. In seconds there was near 6-7 zombies in the room and in the doorway...I tried my best to kill them but he was already unconscious in the first few seconds. Im not proud...but I ran, I ran and ran and ran some more! I was lost now, I had been running in the forest trying to lose the zombies that had turned their attention to me when my friend had died. I tried to climb to the highest peak and get a feel for the lay of the land, consult my map and hopefully find my bearings. I came to a clearing that I believed to be Old Fields and lying down there in the field I though about my next move, consulted my map some more and had an realization...I was near the Airfield! Which meant helicopters! Bicycles were no longer in my mind, my sole purpose in life was now to find and repair a helicopter. After failing to recognize landmarks I was lost again for a short while and ended up in Kabanino. It wasn't a terrible mistake, I found a water pump to fill my canteen which was greatly in need. I started north up the road to what I was now 100% certain was the correct path to the Airfield. Pretty desolate area between Kabanino and the Airfield I must say, not a single life-form human or zombie. In seconds however that changed. I was at the stone wall surrounding the Airfield, I kept close to it and made my way further north towards the distance gate. I came across a hole in the wall and decided to save some time and just make my entrance there...MISTAKE! A zombie was now on me and I though to myself "Great as soon as I get here, I up and die". I had learned a lot in my time on DayZ though knew that I should run to an area I already knew was vacant of zombies and deal with my little friend. After a few minutes of running I came to an open field, turned about and shot him dead. I laid prone in the field...scouted and saw that I had not alerted anything else. I start back north again towards to Airfield. After sneaking past the zombies at the gate I came to what looked like a relay tower for communications with aircraft. Searched it and found some magazines for my AK-74. I navigated out of the building and down the runway, searching all the hangars for signs of a helicopter or possibly some repair parts. After searching every single hangar in the Airfield and what seemed to be nearly every building there too I drew a conclusion: There was nothing here...I had not seen a soul in terms of living people. Some had either been there already and taken it or it didn't spawn in that location. Frustrated I made my way to the north-east exit road going from the Airfield to Grishino. Came to an open field with some hay bales and saw 8 military zombies...Didn't make sense...8 zombies in a field of hay? I went to investigate the situation. Coming so close to the zombies to possible make them aggressive I see it...in the back of the field, it was unmistakeable...a helicopter! I was excited now and eager to move in. I searched my ammunition to find 4 full magazines courtesy of the Airfield. I shot them all once with my AK-74, crippling them. I zig-zgaged through all the crawling zombies scattered in the field and came upon the holy grail of DayZ vehicles. It had crashed and looked pretty beaten up...I honestly didn't know how to go about repairing it or even how to investigate what parts I needed to do the repairs so I did what any uneducated game player would do...spammed the mouse wheel as I ran around the helicopter, looking for anything on my HUD. There was nothing...It was obviously just another burnt out vehicle like the many I had seen on the road. I lost all hope...I didn't want to live anymore. I ran as fast as I could towards Grishino with the sole purpose of ending my life. And I did...I fired off all 3 of my magazines as I ran through town. Now im not a religious man but the church seemed like a good enough place as any to die. I stood in the pews and awaited my death, it came swiftly... That has been my grandest and most disappointing DayZ experience all in one and leads me to a question. TL;DR Vehicle spawns in the game...are either to rare or players are hoarding all of them. I've had many adventures since the Airfield escapades, all with the same result. I've search nearly every location the DayZ Wikipedia provides for vehicle spawns and never found a single repairable one. Its my knowledge that vehicles respawn when the server restarts, is that correct? How do I know/find a server that has been recently reset? Im really enjoying this game but with players possibly hoarding multiple vehicles off map...it significantly lowers my interest in the game. If anyone knows of a server where vehicles remain unclaimed or is restarted frequently please let me know. Didn't realize it was so long...haha. Going to do some work outside and check back in a short while. Thank you to anyone who has a response.

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

I agree with the 3 day respawn suggestion. As it stands vehicles are not being used for what they are. The way I see it they are supposed to be driven around to get from place to place. Rocket either needs to change the spawn timer for inactive or out of map vehicles OR he needs to change what they are. At the moment they are being used as permanent tents due to their ability to hold items. If he could switch that tents were permanent even after a death but despawned after a week of non use. Then make it so vehicles couldn't hold items, or a very limited amount for repairs then this would be a great improvement in my opinion. I feel that while many people will be angry about the change it will be better overall. It will give the chance for more people to use vehicles for what they were actually intended. I am not incapable of finding vehicles, I spent 12 hours yesterday running from the NE side of the map all the way around to the SW side of the map yesterday. I found alot of vehicles and tent cities and wrote down the co-ords for each. I'm half tempted to just get in the vehicles and drive them around the map until they explode but I would feel bad about someone losing their hard earned loots. It's not the players fault that vehicles are such good permanent tents that they horde them. It's the devs fault for making them that way.

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

@ Chambers How about you actually start playing and spend some time in Chernarus, you'll easily stumble upon vehicles, with and without owner. 7 days is exactly right - some people have a real life, did you forget that? They can't play all the time.
  6. i USED to be a strong 4. A real 'are you friendly?!' kind of guy. But as i started getting better and better at this, -often- having NVG/GPS/AS50 i'm concidering everyone and everything a threat and almost downright paranoid. So i went up to 6... But then i started to have such an amazing camp with alot of vehicles shared among me and my group of 6. We started laying up ambushes... And its so much fun!!! So 7-8? However, There has been times where ive encountered unarmed people that's said friendly things over direct comm. I got into my car and saved a bullet. . . That's generosity in the Cz / Soviet apocalypse! :D

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

No' date=' it wouldn't be great at all. [/quote'] Use it or lose it. Yes, this is my first post here, but I've been here a while. I've been playing this for about six weeks, reading the forums and following the discussions. I've really enjoyed the mod, I love the challenges, and seeing what new stuff, for good or ill comes with each update. I like the challenges the scarcity of resources brings, except the degree of just how many vehicles can be hoarded/saved almost indefinitely. It's getting to the point where one might as well just say in the wiki '99% of land vehicles spawn in groups outside the map, that are sometimes heavily defended.' Let me be clear that I am not saying we should have an enormous number of vehicles available, nor do I think that a player can't save his vehicle(s). I think that 7 days where a vehicle just sits there off map or in an unusable position before re-spawning is too long. In regards to 'weekend only players' - if you can't spend 15 minutes in the middle of the week to even just log in and save your stuff, you're just being an ass and hogging it at the cost of other player's fun. It's almost like some kind of low level, long term griefing. Here is a suggestion, and then my 'in game' explanation of why it would happen: If a way can be found that would not tax the servers badly, perhaps a check once every 3 days, at server start-up, the number of saved vehicles is counted and the date those vehicles spawned is recorded. The oldest (from date of spawn/first repair) 10% of vehicles would be rendered 'inert/broken beyond repair' - the vehicle would still be there for 3 days, keeping equipment stored there safe, but it could not be started/moved (unmovable vehicles could be 'reclassified' as something like temporary tents, but with a vehicle skin to reduce server load). After 3 days, they would be deleted. Those 10% of vehicles that are classified as 'inert/broken' would be immediately 'returned to the wild' for regular re-spawn. (This would keep total vehicle numbers the same but spreading more vehicles around, while not screwing players out of stored gear they have earned.) How this can be explained 'in game': If you have ever worked on a shitty, near-junked car, you know that eventually something will wear out that cannot reasonably be fixed, like a cracked engine block, a burnt-out transmission, a severely rusted frame, a snapped drive shaft or fried electrical system. Chernarus was at least somewhat evacuated, it seems, and those with the good vehicles left before we arrived. We're left with shitty vehicles fixed with improvised repairs with basic parts. Eventually, the vehicles will die, broken beyond the ability to repair them with what can be scavenged. Maybe create a few unbelievably rare specialty parts that might fix some, but not all, of those inert vehicles. It might create some interesting adventures for players to have to find a certain part for their vehicle under a deadline, that even if they find the part they need, the repair might not work, which would balance out the possibility of hoarding such parts over time. I don't think this should apply to helicopters or boats, just land vehicles. I think this might spice up the vehicle scene some, spread the wealth, and not disrupt the game unreasonably. tl;dr 3 days is more fair to all players. Small percentage of the longest-kept vehicles eventually die of old age, are 'reintroduced' into the wild. Extremely rare parts needed for vehicles that have been kept for a long time.
  8. +1 for the map boundary suggestion, but leave the respawns as the way they are. I have a few vehicles and I think this is a good thing, its unfair to other players if you hide them off-grid. I've had vehicles stolen off me before, and I don't mind - it's all part of the game. So stop hiding shit off map, it's just cheap.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Would it be possible to add something that tells you how much space there is left in tents/vehicles? Our tent just seems to eat stuff at times (destroyed completely, cant be found on nearby ground). Please PM me if you have any idea how much you can storage in different vehicles/tents, ty.

    AS-50 vs. M107

I have a question about the as50/m107 and vehicles. On the wiki it says it takes two shots to the engine block to disable vehicles. Is that accurate? Or do most vehicles go down in a single shot, while some of the more heavy duty ones take two shots? There was a guy doing circles on an airfield in a pickup earlier but I didn't wanna give away my position by shooting and only getting one hit before he got behind cover/out of sight.
  11. The new gear usage system seems to be breaking a lot of other mechanics in the game. I also find it to be a bit clunky. Have you considered scripting in a separate "DayZ Interaction button"? Similar to the ACE mod, you could have one key that brings up a menu of all actions that are DayZ specific like eating, chopping wood, transfusions, etc. Maybe have one bindable key for DayZ Self-Interaction (eating, drinking, bandage, etc) and one for all other interaction (repairing vehicles, transfusions, etc).

    SA2 Admin Foul Play

I was also there when the server shut down. We assume this is admin foul play due to being disconnected from the server after killing the random person that joined in the middle of raiding. We thought it was very likely to be an admin camp as it was shut down as we killed the player and were attempting to escape with their vehicles as shown in Stone's second picture. The server has now been down for just under an hour and does not show up on the server list.
  13. Once you have all the best gear, vehicles and seen many choppers crashed, killing players is the end game thrill. Their gear will not help you, only get you killed when you go to loot it.
  14. Hi, noob here. How does third person work? I've never been able to get it to work. As such, I don't like the idea of someone spotting me before its even possible to spot them no matter how careful I am but I've always loved using 3rd person mode when driving vehicles in other games.

    US 136 Issues

It has happened to our stuff as well. It's not really under our control. Sometimes when the server is restarted vehicles tents aren't there so we have to do another restart. Without having global chat we can't really ask players for feedback on whether or not it's just our stuff gone or not. I'm pretty sure from what I've read another restart will fix it hopefully.
  16. Everything you put inside your tent will save in there until you or someone else finds it and takes it out. Thats why people hide their tents. Tents stay on the server you placed them on. Vehicles can be saved in locations and they stay there on that specific server. Sometimes stuff gets messed up in server restarts so nothing is set in stone yet.
  17. Fiskbatch

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Take your time as long as many bugs are sorted out. Debug forest/plains, disappearing items from tents, disappearing vehicles, the unconscious-after-joining-a-server-without-shock bug, zombs walking/attacking through walls and so forth. Etc and so forth. Seems like a great patch!
  18. . THIS TOPIC IS MEANT TO EXPLORE POSSIBILITIES FOR THE FUTURE. NOT FOR THE PRESENT 'MOD' VERSION OF DAYZ. . . What would I do in the case of a zombie appocalypse? I WOULD MAKE A SETTLEMENT, without a doubt! The idea that players would be given the ability to construct things once they've survived several weeks and collected enough supplies appears to be a very, very popular one with this community, so I thought I'd share some of my ideas. I like the idea of making the game a little more true to the 'survival' part, rather than just KILL KILL KILL. Player-buildings would, obviously, be fully destructible. In order to keep a small community going, for example, you'd need the support of many players! Players would be able to customize the location and orientation (rotation) of these objects, to construct shacks, houses, buildings, etc. or fix up an old building to make it their home. Anywho .. It isn't like there's a lack of space. Most of the game map is empty woodlands, as we all know : and there are all of those islands, which would be perfect for settlements! Fallout 3's most popular mod was the 'Real Time Settler' mod, in which a similar system was introduced. An image of a settlement constructed by players is below It would be equally cool fixing up a pre-existing structure, or cleaning up a pre-existing town though. . . Some things I think players should be able to construct in the future : (Feel free to criticize / suggest - I'm totally open) . . [ Workbench ] - Used to put together a lot of these objects, with scraps found in the world. [ Makeshift Wall ] - Made up of boards of wood and metal sheets. Very easily destroyed. [ Chain Fencing ] - Used to fence off bases constructed by players, unpassable. Can be cut open with wire/bolt cutters, and holes could be blown in it very easily with explosives. Vehicles could probably destroy these very easily if rammed. [ Plywood Wall / Drywall ] - A little harder to destroy, but still pretty flimsy. Opaque, so players cannot see through it like the Chain Fencing. Maybe it could be destroyed by the zombies, if bashed down? [ Cement Wall ] - Tough, but still breakable. And RPG or well-placed block of C4 (if added) could blow this open. [ Metal Wall ] - Thick metal, used to wall the toughest fortifications. Welding torches could break through this. [ Door / Gate] - Various types of doors. Wooden doors are obviously easy to break down (and bashed in by zombies perhaps?), whereas large, thick metal doors are very difficult to open. Keypads could be added to prevent players from entering ... easily [ Generator ] - Used to create 'power', to fuel the devices that will follow. Runs on gasoline. [ Chest/Locker/Safe ] - Something players could put in their fortifications/communities to store items. Could be locked. Openable, perhaps, with rare bolt cutters, depending on the quality of the lock used. [ Light Fixture / Floodlights ] - Provides light for you in your shack/fort, uses power [ Radio Tower ] - Uses power, adds your town name to the map (ie. "Manhattan" next to a dot on the map). I'm guessing that this object would take a LOT of resources, and run on immense amounts of power. (Available only to the largest of settlements) That way, if the town is raided and destroyed by bandits, it just becomes ruins, and the map marker is removed. [ Terminal/Computer ] - A variety of uses for simple computers in the game. You think about it. Maybe you could research things, if you find old website servers, harddrives, or military information servers? [ Ammo Press / Weapon Press ] - Used to press out very specific types of ammo. You must first find the specs/blueprints/cast (whichever) before you can produce a certain type of ammunition. Uses metal. Take a LOT of resources, and are only available to the largest of the largest of settlements. [ Forge? ] - Toss in ores to refine your metal, for guns etc. [ Farming ] - Grow a couple potatoes, raise some cows : good stuff to keep a settlement of players going. [ Chemistry Sets ] - Allows for players to create vaccines/cures/meds if they manage to scavenge the right chemicals from the world. It would also be nice to set up other medical objects, that players visiting the settlement could use. [ Powered Gates / Powered Blast doors ] - Very difficult to destroy, powered by a motor. Comes with a keypad to open/close. [ Wrench/Screwdriver/Drill/Sledgehammer ] - Cool engineering items that could have a variety of uses. [ Furniture ] - Allow players to place chairs, tables, beds, ovens, etc. that are crafted / dragged in from elsewhere for scenery (or perhaps they'd have a use) [ Water Pump / Water Well ] [ Lootable garbage piles ] - Those piles of trash / bits of metal / wood you find in every city should, if this system is introduced, become lootable. In these piles of junk, you'd find the scraps of stuff needed to build the objects mentioned above. . == Ideas that are probably not feasible == [ Flags ] - Allow players to customize flags (to a certain, manageable extent). They could place these flag around town, use it as a marker of a trading outpost, or use it as a banner for your group of raiders. [ Custom Signs ] - For example .. you'd have a sign that says "Rivet City" above the city's gateway entrance, or a sign off to the side saying "Do not raid! You are welcome in our settlement!" [ PA System ] - You can set these up around your city, to play some music for people who are in your city. They'd be songs added to the mod by the dev team, of course - ambient music like this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I52SEq384Eo [ Area denial weapons ] - Bit of a silly idea ... You could set up this 'turret' to scan back and forth for players, and gun down anyone who comes near. This could be put inside of a house, as a form of security. This is for a settlement that spends a lot of time offline. . == Ideas from other users == [ Small Helipad ] Allow for some air support/transport from a single helicopter in the village/town/city/whatever it is. (messageboy) IDEAS WELCOME
  19. DayZ appealed to me since I like the post apocalyptic setting, I read book like The Road and Metro 2033 and watch TV series like The Walking Dead, Jericho, and semi-frequent r/collapse on reddit (probably because I secretly suspect that the world is going to shit, aaany day now..). The Crime & Punishment and Bandit Campfire subforums occasionally offer some nice reads, eventhough the stories mostly consist of neckbeards' wet dreams with plotholes you could drive a truck through. Theme Parks and sandboxes, EVE and DayZ being sandboxes. The thing is that EVE isn't as sandboxy as it seems, it has mining, ratting, mission running, plexes, scanning, trading, hauling, POS operation, R&D and whatnot. As it seems, DayZ only offers looting, shooting and repairing vehicles.

Horses would be cool. But yeah, to many design problems. You could just use the bicycle or motorcycle as the base model I guess. And also, you can't fire from any vehicles in Arma 2. Not sure how they would design around that.
