Dunno, but I think the reason vehicles are so easy to find there is because it's being constantly restarted. I think it's only up when the admin wants to play, but I don't know that for certain. It's pretty annoying, I set up a tent there and loaded it with stuff, then it's been a pain because of my schedule to get back on the server and take it down. It's going to drop soon.

So after getting sorted our after the 1.7 Wilderness mess, the game is finally working 'correctly'. Except that most buildings, all zombies and foilage is invisible. I have the latest Day Z files and Arma2 Beta patch installed. I am not stuck in the wilderness. I can see other players and they can definitely see me(been killed). The debug zombie count is zero, even though I can occasionally hear them drag across something or rustle a fence but we seem invisible to each other. I can see all loot and vehicles fine but if the building is invisible, I cannot get to anything not on the ground level. I can see everything else floating in the air. Some walls and buildings do appear, but very few. Any ideas?

"Accidental" Current Vehicle Location map US 29 Atlanta 5
Rakkasan replied to Svetovid's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah this is lame. I was afk watching a movie on netflix movie while online. So about 4 hours. My friend informed me his tent was looted and his vehicle was stolen. I laughed. Kept watching my movie. 5 minutes later a guy loads in right ontop of my tent. In looting mode. I alt tab back in (windowed mode) and pull out pistol to shoot him. Next thing you know I am teleported into the middle of Berezino. Nothing I can do. I am an admin, not the actual owner of server, but admin nonetheless. I could have reset the server, but would have done no good. So I waited for the rest of the guys to get online and the actual guy who rents the server. 100% of the tents were looted. 2 vehicles we did own gone. By now most of the stuff is probably spread out among several different servers. Just kind of sucks when someone does it blatantly infront of you and nothing you can do is reset, which ruins the fun of the other players on your server. -
"Accidental" Current Vehicle Location map US 29 Atlanta 5
Time Glitch replied to Svetovid's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I know that US90 just got plagued by a group of hackers who somehow knew where all the vehicles were, and took them all and put 'em off the map. I think the same thing may have happened on US91 as well. This could be a new hack. -
Sometimes when a server restarts the tents and vehicles all disappear and it needs to be restarted again. How do you tell everyone on the server you are resetting it to fix this if you are not the global admin, just a normal admin?

Hello everyone. [soB] formed shortly after the release of the Day Z alpha. Been playing for just over a month now. We are a group of guys who all met up after playing the game. We currently have a 10 slot mumble server and about 8 active members. With that said, we are looking to add 1 or 2 more players. Here's a little info.. - We play anywhere from 8pm EST to 3am EST. Sometimes we start late, sometimes we start earlier, I'd say 10pm EST is our usual start time. - We shoot on sight, we don't normally "go looking" for people, but if someone crosses there path with us we shoot first and ask questions later. - There are times where we will take trips to Elektro and Cherno to hunt Bandits, but a good portion of our time playing is farming Stary Sober, the NW airfield and Berezino for supplies. - We currently own 3 vehicles on our server, and counting. We own a Hippie Van, UAZ and Bus. (we lost our ATV the other day) - We have a nice camp set up, with approx two full tents of guns + ammo, 2 tents dedicated to medical supplies, a tent with food supplies and a tent with car parts (yes we are horders, but we don't ever server hop) The server we play on is interesting as it has a lot of clans, makes for some great competition and blood shed for vehicles. We stole another clan's bus yesterday as both our teams had the idea of raiding Stary for it's supplies. Was fun!. If your interested, message me on Steam under the name "SixxAssassin". From there, I will give you mumble info and server info. Thanks.

"Accidental" Current Vehicle Location map US 29 Atlanta 5
Svetovid posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As taken from a possemate's reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/vpp0x/accidental_vehicle_location_map_us_29_atlanta_5/ Here's what happened(edited for easier interpretation): "A few buddies and I were playing on US 29 Atlanta 5. We were driving an offroad truck towards a gas station to refuel and hide it for the night when I noticed a Toyota pickup and a truck (Ural) right next to a refuel location. My buddies drove these two newly acquired vehicles, while I drove the offroad. We decided to drive off and hide it in a secluded part of the map. Soon later, one of my buddies opened up the in-game map and found that the map was displaying green dots to mark the CURRENT locations of every single vehicle in the server(look further down for image link). All of us who had maps opened up the map to confirm this and we all could see the vehicle locations on the map. I was worried because it was displaying the vehicle we had on the map as well. We noticed it updated the vehicles location on the map every time we got out of the vehicle. We informed the admin on his Teamspeak at 74.91.112.220. He restarted the server a few minutes after, and the map glitch seemed to go away. However, after we decided to hide the vehicles in a remote location spread out from each other, a group of 2+ managed to kill our buddy guarding the vehicles, and steal all three of our vehicles. To ensure there was no save glitch, we looked around and logged in and out, until we were 100% sure that all the vehicles were gone. (Note this was in a very remote region of the map.) We discussed it amongst each other and believed it might have been due to that 2+ group using the map to find the locations of the vehicles and to steal them from us." Very disheartening indeed. The strange thing about this was what happened this morning: we discovered that someone had stolen our Land Rover from a very remote region of the map on the SAME server. We do not know for sure whether this was just a glitch on the server's part or was due to people using exploits to find the locations of our vehicles. Here is the image of the DayZ In-Game Map that showed all the CURRENT locations of every single vehicle, which led to our vehicles being taken from us 15 minutes after we tried to hide them: http://i.imgur.com/YY5Hj.jpg Anyway, we would like to hear from fellow DayZ players about whether they have experienced something similar to this. Also, we would like to warn others that there is a POSSIBILITY exploiters can use this map to find vehicles and steal them. -
A game to accommodate the world you describe can never exist. It would be literally filled with millions of objects. Too bad someone didn't make a mil-sim that simulated huge battlefields that are kilometers big with dynamic interactions, vehicles, AI with guns that have adjustable skill levels, maybe even mod it with a random loot system. If I made one like that I would call it ARMA or something. Too bad it can never exist though.

What's the best way to go about searching for vehicles? Logically I assumed the odds would be better farther inland due to the fact more players are on the coast = more likely vehicle has been claimed. Should I stick to main roads? Also, how do I identify a repairable vehicle? Will it have mouse wheel options? That's what I have been looking for. Thanks for the feedback thus far and thanks to those of you who read the whole story. ;) -
Hmmm, 1) Snipers may be the weapon of the preying bandit, but they are also used for scouting, covering others from a distance, and just clearing an area of zombies without getting aggro. If anything, I think more weapons of every type should be introduced. On bandits in general though that just shoot on sight, I think they need to be easily recognizable again, the bandit skin was great, it was a punishment for killing other players, something that makes other survivors shoot on sight and never trust you, you sacrificed the entire idea of meeting friendly survivors, because they know just by appearance, that you kill other players. People actively hunted bandits down as a sport, which was fantastic. Now though, with just the glitchy heartbeat thing, it's hard to know who you can trust and who you can't, especially at distance, which is making everyone just shoot on sight and abandon the idea of making friends and grouping with strangers, it's too dangerous. PvP can still be a part of DayZ, but personally, I think "bandits" need to be recognizable by appearance. So people might think twice about turning into a bandit since you would become fair game. 2) That system you described isn't good... 5 minutes is a long time, you'd never know if the next time you booted the game up you'd be a new character or not. To avoid disconnecting in combat, a simple 10 second counter would be enough, to quit, you'd need to stand still for 10 seconds, which will be interrupted by any movement or being shot/hit. So you always need to find somewhere safe to disconnect. And if someone forced a quit, their character would stay behind, standing still where it was for 10 - 15 seconds. So it wouldn't be an option to disconnect in the heat of battle. Server hopping is a harder issue to solve, but anything as harsh as a 5 minute timer would also punish people just finding a better server, or disconnecting because of a glitch or because the server happens to be night time (which many don't like), it would be rageworthy needing to wait 5 minutes between joining servers. Especially if your character was out of your hands and vulnerable for all of that time. 3) Stashing vehicles is a problem I agree, but I think the solution lies more with respawn rates than anything. Having proper map boundries would be good. But additionally I think the spawn rates for vehicles should be much shorter... If someone takes a vehicle, I'd want a new one spawned there within 2 hours, even with the other vehicle still on the map. Which gives the potential for servers to have many vehicles operating at the same time, they are a too rare at the moment in my opinion, I can't see any harm in having more vehicles on the map, so they become a less rare sight. I have played for hours every day for the past 5 days on full servers and I have seen no vehicles of any kind, anywhere. I also think Bicycles should become a lot less rare than vehicles, even if they were slightly broken and needed just a Toolbox to fix, every town should have a bicycle, realistically the majority of homes would own atleast one bicycle, so I don't think they should be that rare. 4) A single difficulty is fine with me. Also, how can name tags be abused?, is it just like looking around the landscape until a green name pops up, so it lets you spot people?, lowering it to 50m would be fine, so you could identify people who are around you. How can 3rd person be abused? o_O, I enjoy using it, I like seeing myself, anything one player can do with 3rd person, any other player can do, so it's a level playing field. I agree with the NVG being removed, unless there was more ways to see in the night, like floodlights, power etc...so they become less essential in the dark. I have never used GPS so I don't know what it offers, but if it's just a GPS like in real life, which lets you see yourself, and only yourself on the map moving around, then that isn't a problem.

Bear Traps..... Don't Care either way However 3 Major Exploits are destroying the game-play at the moment. 1: Alt-F4. I know its been tried, but we need a revisit of 10-20 second delay on logging out/altf4 . Too many players brazenly ignore zombies/kill players knowing that they are instantly safe by de-spawning zombies and no player retaliation. 2: Server hopping. Its too easy to get good gear by going to a good spot such as military tents /airfield / barracks etc and then logging in and out of multiple servers until you find what you want without actually having to travel anywhere. (Possible Fix) Changing servers resets your location to the beach like a re-spawn. Encourages people to play on a regular server and build a reputation and also play through the day/night cycle instead of just swapping to a day server. 3: Off map camps. Ive been playing on the same server for a month and never seen a repairable vehicle or one in use. It IS a server with them enabled but they have all been taken and stashed in off-map camps. This is effectively removing content from the game for the majority of the player base. (Possible Fix) All tents and vehicles are destroyed after 1 hour of inactivity when outside the map of Chernarus. (Alternate fix) Increase the number of vehicles in the game but decrease the spawn-rate of vehicle parts. More difficult, less impossible. And lastly, and not related to anything, increase the day/night cycle rapidly. I play for 4 hours at the same time every night. So without deliberatly server swapping, i only see the SAME 4 hours everytime, and never experience the dynamic and changing lighting and different playstyles.

Not just for tents but for vehicles too. That'd be awesome.

Text too long, but I read the end.. There are no servers where vehicles remains unclaimed, and most servers are restarted frequently to maintain performance. The European FR 2 is one example. Restarts every 230mins I think.

My DayZ experience and issue.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Im_Jay_Kay's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've found ~12 vehicles in the last 21 days. Keep looking. They're out there. Plenty of other threads on this topic with similar replies. The wiki's don't have a complete map. Nobody does. I know this because half the vehicles I found don't appear on any of the maps. Vehicles do not spawn on server restart. They respawn on a "secret interval" which will not be revealed for obvious reasons (camping spawns). -
The vehicles will respawn at those locations if they are unused for some undisclosed number of days, I believe put forward by rocket as less than 7. Unfortunately, in most cases, clans have taken them off map and you will not find them to steal. They make sure to keep them in use, so they will basically only respawn if they are destroyed, and then they just restart the server to get them back at the last save point or go and get them again. Some servers, you can apparently find vehicles. I have never found a land vehicle in many hours of searching, except a bicycle RIGHT after the big 'vehicle fix' went in. Most of the time, I forget they exist and busy myself with .... other pursuits...

Indeed. Realism? I materialize on the coast of a country full of the undead, wearing body armour and empty leg rigs, can operate any weapons I find, heal any laceration with a bandage, mend a broken femur with morphine, carry helo rotors in my pocket, repair vehicles with junk yet I can't melee unless I have a hatchet or crowbar? "I have Word-Class weapon training but how do I use fist?" Edit: Also I rematerialize when I die and can loot my body. Right now you can't call this Mod entirely realistic, just a simulator. I do love it, it's just easy to lose the feeling of realism the second I can't rifle stroke a Zed. Side Note: However if there was a reason for having little equipment... Infiltration all weapons and gear OSP had to do an objective then exfiltrate... Come back with some bonus item or loot. Make it nigh-impossible to do alone, boom teamwork reward. Side note to the side note: This is Alpha-Stage, save it for the Beta.

The spots dont "respawn" traditionally like in battlefield. There is a set amount of vehicles on the map, placed by devs and then activated on all servers, after the predetermined vehicle spawns like a few weeks ago with the db vehicle reset, no other vehicles will spawn. That vehicle will only respawn after a restart if it is destroyed. and it will usually respawn where it was destroyed or saved or fixed. So chances are if you check a spot and its empty, you wont see one there ever again unless you are the first person there after a database vehicle reset. At least i think thats how it works. Go steal a car.

How many vehicles are at their original spawns? On say.. Any server really. Or an average would be cool too. -
for certain vehicles that spawn at a fixed location, do they respawn after a certain period when someone has taken the vehicle? if so, how long is the respawn time?

i know that most vehicles are randomly generated, but are there certain spots on the map where vehicles are guaranteed to spawn? if so, where may that be?

Player Request: US91 Needs Dev or Experienced Admin Attention
Time Glitch posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have a large group of players that has chosen US91 as our home server, and we play on there almost every day. We have a camp set up that we worked very hard for, and we don't want to hop servers again. Why would we want to? Because as more time goes on, the server just seems to be a little broken here and there. I'm hoping that by posting this, it can get some Dev attention, or at least an experienced server admin to help the current admins out. I have talked to LVG extensively about the server and he basically says "We need to wait on a Dev, we don't know what the problem is." So here's what my group and I have noticed about US91: - Direct Communication does not work. Neither VON or Chat. The current server admin is aware of this issue. - Time of Day is very wonky. I don't know what the time zone for the server is, but we can log in very late at night and it still be light out. We can also log out when it's getting dark, and when we log back in, it's magically light out for another half hour or so. - Zed spawning/Loot spawning was VERY off last night. I had done the re-log trick a few times to get some more visibility, and something was very off about Zed and Loot spawns. I hit up the NE Airfield, and there was NOTHING of value whatsoever, but then the Krasnostav general store had 2 pairs of Binocs and THREE Maps? Something's wrong here. - Vehicles don't seem to be spawning. We ran around half the continent last night, checking everywhere from Gorka to Elektro to Tulga to Berezino...NOTHING. We had TWO teams at one time checking separate locations, and not a vehicle to be found. We haven't checked the western part of the world yet, but I'm not expecting anything. I think something has to be wrong with the vehicle spawns. I've spent considerable time on the server, and I also have never seen another player vehicle. That's just about it, but those are some pretty big bugs. I really hope that our server can get some help, because we don't want to have to server hop yet again in hopes of finding a stable server =/ -
Good idea.. The game already places tyre tracks and foot prints in the ground when you walk or drive. Grass is flattened by players and vehicles as well but comes back up quite quickly. Just depends on your gfx settings if they show or not. If i remember right. Im sure they could be tweaked to show more and stay longer. Adding a cover your tracks option would be great aswell. +1 for this
