Vehicles shouldn't be hoarded. One group of server admin buddies hoarding all the vehicles on a server is dumb. -
Yes Rocket, make the game EVEN MORE HARDER. The harder the game - the more PVP and PK. Make vehicles MORE harder to get, so that only grouped bandits and clans can have them! Superb job!

We have had numerous bugs of guns disappearing from character. I lost an AS50 today from my backpack after logging out and joining. We also can confirm three pistols that did the same thing, two m1911, 1 m9SD. We also lost a Bizon SD. We also have logged in three days in a row from three different camp locations with all loot from all tents and vehicles gone. Vehicles had full fuel so no chance someone raided three camps in three days and left vehicle three times and looted what would have taken 4 coyote packs hours to move even server hopping. Also magazines are disappearing from logging out and logging back in. When I Bizon was lost it was replaced by 10 bandages. The AS50 was replaced by 8 tin cans and 2 empty spots. If this has something to do with all the problems the introduction of hatchets and spawners with no guns, couldn't you have just left what was fine alone? Who cared if a guy spawns with a makarov. Quit listening to the noobs bean warring down in cherno and pay attention to the people who have hundreds of hours played and fix stuff that is broke and find your story again... -

its tacitly supported by the developers by their inaction. they could simply wipe out all tents and vehicles. it would not solve the root issue but it would drastically reduce the effects of duping pretty much right away. -
*sights* its late so i will assume my previous post was unclear so i will attempt to repeat my intentions without confusion. #1 anyone is welcome. every server has down time. im not controlling who does and dosnt play im merely stating that will instate down time once we have negotiated a agreement with dayz staff. the fine points of that agreement will be discussed later on and i will see how that goes. #2 we dont care who has and dosnt have vehicles. i reread my earlier post and nowere does it say were controlling vehicle population. reference #1 for the rest. #3 a guy on page 1 said the same thing and i corrected him so heres my 2nd shot. we arent interested in loot. were graphics designers for god sakes. ive already had all the items you can have and all the vehicles. the buzz to obtain a item is gone. im left with the creative aspect of dayz. again #1 will dictate this. staff may have some boundries for us to follow to which we will do to a T #4 again #1. i will post the results of my inquiry when i receive the email. <3 I have a feeling that if we are to do what we intend i have no doubt that staff may propose a cordoned off locked media only server that cannot be opened by the public or something of the sort. or we can just go ahead an do our shoots with random people in the server with hopes they dont interfere. i in no way intend to violate rockets rules and earlier a fine fellow brought it to my attention that locking the server for a hour every 4-5 days for a quick little secure shoot is probally against the rules. therfore i will make sure that my ideas are ran by the staff and that all rules are obeyed. im not a hackfag or script kiddie and i have no intention of becoming one. Now for the sake of the rules already pre-established this is a bandit forum and i dont think that a discussion regarding server control by admin is the best way to add to this fine subsection. :) for any reposters or anythine that wants to get mad at me please feel free to flame my skype :tachyonXL otherwise i have realized thanks to @liquidje that my plans may not be acceptable. i am currently talking with staff about this and it will be resolved. ~vielodesign

You are not impressing me with your intelligence OP. You have just stated that you are buying your own server so that you and your clan; 1. Can have control over who plays on it. 2. Can control who has the vehicles and who doesn't. 3. Can lock the server when ever you feel like it to fix up vehicles, loot farm and do all other kinds of dick head things. 4. Lock the server any time you want to make movies. Yeah... good luck getting that server white listed. Even doing this "quickly at night" will cause an all mighty shit storm in the Cheat Reporting forum. Go, check out the amount of Admin Abuse threads being started for just this sort of shit.

Have vehicles become super rare since the up-tick in players?

I watched a hackers live stream of DayZ, was in a post here that got removed. He was able to enable/disable at will all world spawns with color coding, players, vehicles, zeds, loot, animals - you name it, its location was shown in game. He was able to hop from vehicle to vehicle. With hacks out like that, Im sure others use it & locate & hoard. There's just no where to hide a vehicle from a hack like I watched. -

I'd like to at least help out in some capacity, but I do have a group I still play with on the side. How are things going? Are you guys set up? Are you getting any traders? Make it so zombies spawn near user placed buildings (though a few meters outside so they don't spawn inside fences/walls etc., then walk toward it) after a certain amount of time. The more buildings in an area, the closer to existing towns/settlements, and the longer its been there then the more zombies spawn. Would mean bases would only be able to get so big before they would become troublesome to manage, or people would have to pack up bases periodically and move around (which requires a fair bit of resources, vehicles etc.). You could have some placeables as non recoverable, so that moving has a cost to.

amen.! good code. i usually am very paranoid so if i see a survivor and he hasn't seen me ( im sneaky in the extreme so they usually don't) illl usually survey them in a period of 2 seconds. if their headed away ill leave them be. maby a few potshots to keep them on their toes. but if their headed towards me in any way. their done. my basic motto is leave no loose ends. if they see me they may find a gun in the next building and hunt me. therfore armed or unarmed their ass is grass. if they have a gun i wait till their standing still. every target will hold still. even if for only 3-4 seconds. i leap at that moment and plant the headshot. its ruthless and i usually walk away feeling extremely bad but i can steel myself for the moment whenever its needed. if i run across the new players i walk with them and talk for a while. teach them most of what i know. i always end with "also if you ever see a survivor with a gun... dont trust them." i pop one into their head ( dont kill them) i use my sidearm. just knocks then unconscious. i transfuse them and bandage them and walk away. their in full health and simetimes if im feeling nice i plant a gun in their pack and walk away. i generally dont care about killing players and guns etc arnt my goal. vehicle parts are my goal. i repair and stash vehicles and tip off players as to where they are. :) i enjoy making others happe. if im not doing that im riding the hookerbus. i travel up and down the coast picking up new guys and taking them where they want ^_^

When a new server comes up are all the vehicles spawned instantly or do they spawn in over time? Is there a mximum of each type of vehicle that can spawn? Cheers guys

Crafting already is part of the mod. Crafting is already in the mod. Fixing vehicles, creating fireplaces, cooking, changing ammo for different guns. As long as crafting stays on a very basic level that most people could achieve I'm all for it. Survivors fixing up a bike, car, maybe even basic gun repairs yes. Survivors being able to fix up a chopper or airplane is already out of the scope. Fixing boats is where the border between "doable" and "impossible" is for me.

Seattle 67: Vehicles, Tents and Bikes unspawned

The seattle 67 admins can not reset the central DayZ-server, but their own server only. Their server does not save your tents or vehicles. Your stuff might come back after a restart of seattle 67, if not with a ~90% all your stuff is gone. It might also pop up again after another restart. Anyways: Alpha, central server too full, hackers ... yadda yadda -
Niemands "Cleaning a Village aka Settling down"

Since I am one of those settler-types that want to survive and settle down somewhere, I gotta provide this idea, even if it will not get good feedback. The striked parts are obsolete. Please read the new, coloured parts. Sources: Blue refers to requests/suggestions in this thread, usually are linked to the post. Green is inspired by the idea to use a generator for making Zeds unable to spawn in an area, see Post#82 in the Liberation-Thread. Crimson are new additions from my own brain. The Idea is to clean a town from Zeds. Somewhere hidden in the town is a spot/switch that makes the Zeds unable to spawn for 12* hours. Before being able to flip that switch to green (what means "save") you need to clean the city out. This will need a reduced Zed-spawnrate. (Since when you are in a village with 4 people the ones you killed first respawn the instant you kill the second ones). How it could work: Players come into a village. they need to find the lever/switch for the village (it is randomly placed somewhere, a bit hidden). They go to the switch and set it to "try cleaning". Now the Spawnrate for Zeds is reduced to 50* percent. When all Zeds in the village are dead the Lever turns green. In every village (towns, airfields, random huts/sheds/barns and cities are not cleanable! | Post #7 ) is a generator. - Usually it is a bit hidden. If a group of players wants to clean a village they need to fill it completely (it takes 100* liters?) and then start it. It will make an unsteady, stuttering and loud noise. This will attract the Zeds in an area of 500* meters. The Zeds will try to attack it (or the players next to it) and destroy it (if they succeed it needs to be repaired with engine-parts, fuel-tank-parts and so on...). Players need to defend the generator until it runs steady (and more quiet). As soon as it runs steady no new zeds will spawn in the village, but some will spawn around it. If there are enough players in the village it could happen (only by a small chance) that there spawns a horde on one border of the village. The Generator The generator runs a few (maybe 6 to 12?) hours with those 100* liters. It will start running unsteady again in the last 10%* of tankfilling (but not as loud as before) to indicate that it is empty. As soon as the generator is out of gas the area slowly becomes swarmed again. Players can fill it up again, same as they can with vehicles.Maybe the generator will start to "die" with the time. so you can walk to it and check if the engine and the fueltank are still alright. Players would need to go out and find new parts and repair it. Lootspawns in cleaned areas Now, most of you will say "That will result in lootcamping!". But! The Lootspawns will be like the Zed-Spawns. They will not be removed but the spawnrate will be down to 10* percent and the value will also drop one or two levels. Zedspawns in cleaned areas Since it would be too easy to have the area cleaned once and no Zeds appear anymore, there will spawn some from time to time. but maybe only one or two. (RolePlay-Reason: It came from the woods). Keeping the area cleanSee "The Generator" above. There are two ideas in my head. The easy one: The Switch needs to be flipped every 6* hours. To add more action: it will appear on a different spot every 4* hours. This way players need to find it. The more complicated, but realistic one: Zeds will spawn once in a while (like i wrote above at "Zedspawns in cleaned areas") and as soon as there are 10* Zeds in that village it will become unclean again. The Serverhopping-Problem Now, I await people to say "But but but the serverhoppers!?" I read a good suggestion (cant find the link, sorry) where somebody suggested that people, if they logout in a house and login on another server (this three words are added by me here will be ported 500meters away to the woods. This could be used here, too. All in all * You will have a little village where you can live in peace for a while - players will be able to settle down, like they (at least some of them) want to. * Bandits can raid those villages. * Other groups can take over those villages * Defensive Buildings (like tanktraps, that fence, sandbags beartraps and so on) will become more needful. * Players can find other players easily and there can be an inGame-Community established. - Means: Roleplay-elements. * Good loot-items can maybe become more rare, because the value of the spawns gets leveled down. * Increasing action with the roaming Horde-suggestion by I_Guts_I Addons/Ideas for later features ◊ "Clear Debris" You can clear the trash that blocks the road. You will need to use the scrollwheel and a shovel-tool (the one you use to fill sandbags with). It will need 5* minutes of animation to clear it. Inside you can find a bit of loot. Maybe scrap-metal or ammo from a car-wreck, a tank-trap-kit, some sandbags or clothes in a trashpile with a washing-machine. (All the loot is just an example). ◊ Setting up some defense. As an example: with your axe and five piles of wood you can build one meters of a small palisade-wall. It blocks Zeds (vision, passing), bullets and of course players and their vision. (Heavy?) Cars can still crush them, same as they do with fences, bushes and walls. Since it is already possible to build sandsackwalls, fencelines and tanktraps that would become a nice feature. ◊ Building Deerstands. For 10* Wood, players can use their Axe to Build Deerstands as Watchtowers. The Idea comes from here: Tent city and protection ideas. ◊ Building a Well. If the village does not already have one or a pond, people may want to build a well. This can happen with the shovel (sandbackfilling-tool). With this and some hunting people can survive. There can also be more ideas like that. I will quote them, if you write them here. Really? even counting the bicycle Ive been playing for months now and the only vehicle i ever encountered was the bus at the mosque in Elektra but that was the very first time i played Just checked the DayZ wiki http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Vehicles its not listed so id call a "hack" ... maybe or maybe you just encountered a super ultra rare spawn -
It's not the fault of sever rollback (those cannot happen because location, inventory and such are stored on the HIVE). The problem is with how HIVE handles vehicle location. There are 2 instances when vehicle locations are saved: when you get on/off vehicles and when you Save the vehicle in the mouse scroll menu. This makes driving both frustrating and dangerous, especially on servers that crash a lot and if you plan on exiting your vehicle often on the way.

Play with survivors. If you get a steam group and saturate a few servers with survivors, you'll get exactly the kind of play you're looking for. MANY players enjoy the territorial aspects of DayZ; stalking prey, raiding player camps, stealing vehicles, fighting other clans. Put in an iota of effort before you screw over all these styles of play. Help these guys make their city. Just stop crying without doing anything. You're not a child, stop acting like one.
