Weapon Russianization (WARNING: Big, detailed post)

Rocket said this was a "social experiment," right? Let's assume the reason for all these differing weapons is a result of the Russian/Czech Republican governments abducting 10's of thousands of people from other nations. If they plan on using this as a chemical/biological weapon, they need to see just how familiar each nation is with its or weapons, or another nations. I don't believe it should be just one nations weaponry. It makes sense that they would "test" large groups of people, and whoever survives the biological agent is forced onto Chernarus. This would provide them with critical mission data; questions such as 'Will these people band together and fight back,' or 'Will each nationality segregate itself and war with one another," perhaps 'Each person may, upon seeing these abominations, lose all rationality and kill anyone who looks at them." Any way I look at this mod, I keep returning to the thought that it doesn't need less of anything, it needs more. More clothing, more weapons, more vehicles, etc.

    Incentives to Cooperative Play

A new one to add that has been coming up a lot for us lately: the ability to control more than one vehicle. The higher-capacity vehicles are often slower and use more fuel. Our team sends a "jerry can strike team" out on a faster, off-road capable vehicle in order to retrieve fuel and return to the larger, lumbering beast of a machine and fuel it up. Often the quicker vehicle can make multiple trips before the larger reaches our ultimate destination. A secondary benefit is that any attack that might destroy a vehicle isn't going to kill your entire team in one go.
  4. Hey, I have a idea I thought about suggesting. Id like to present it before General Discussion to get some feedback and ideas to fine tune the idea before suggesting it. Let me preface this with the basic mechanics of The Key. Every player will begin the game with a key, which will take up the final tool slot space (unless I'm wrong, if you have every tool, adding 1 more will give you a full belt). This key isn't like most other items. It can only be added to your tool belt and can not be added to your backpack or any other kind of storage, unlike other tools. When you drop your key, it is destroyed. If you loot a key off another player, yours is destroyed and replaced with the new key. No matter what, you may only have 1 key at any time. Ok, so onto my example. We will use 2 players named James and Greta to illustrate how the key will work in practice. James and Greta begin the game (with the new key item, of course). James spawns in Elektro, and finds a DMR and sets out north. Greta spawns in Solnichiny, and is lucky enough to stumble upon a freshly spawned V3S truck soon after hitting the quarry. Greta goes up to the vehicle and finds that this truck is unbound to any players key, and so is able to bind the V3S to hers. Now, Greta can set the V3S into 2 distinct modes. Unlocked- The truck will behave much as any vehicle does now, with any player able to hop in and drive off. (adds map optional finding feature) Locked - This is the main feature of the key. In locked mode, players can still enter the vehicle (to facilitate the transportation of friends and friendlies), but only the key holder can enter the driver seat. (adds forced map finding feature) Greta considers setting it to unlocked mode and bringing it back to her groups base camp, so that any of her friends may drive the vehicle around (at the risk of it being stolen, of course), but decides to take the safe route and set it to locked. She takes the truck to the NW Airfield, thinking shell load it up with guns and NVGs from the barracks, but is sniped by James, who is camping the airfield. James is happy to have a new truck sitting before him, but he is unable to get in because the truck is locked. He now loots Greta's key item, which destroys his old key. He is now able to enter the truck and drive off, with the truck now bound to him. He decides to go to sleep soon after, so leaves his truck hidden in the forest and logs off for the night. Other players come across the truck while he is gone, but cant steal it because James has the key. James wakes up and logs in in the morning, only to find his truck has been vandalized. Upset that they could not steal it, bandits trashed the truck and stole his gear he left in it. However, the truck isnt destroyed. Why? Because as part of the key update, it was also made that vehicles are much harder to destroy, requiring satchel charges, M136s, etc to render a vehicle completely destroyed. All of his windows and tires are shot out now though, and his engines red so he will still have to put effort in to repair it. James decides he'd like to get his truck up and running again, so he heads south to the Chern Factory in search of vehicle parts. While looting much needed engine parts, James is axe murdered by a unnamed server hopper. The server hopper loots James' key, and is shown on the map where the truck is (another feature of the key of which ill go into more detail below). Combined with his map, he is able to pinpoint James' truck, and being the sociopath he is, finds and drives the truck into Chern hospital, blowing up the truck and all the precious-as-gold morphine, much to the lamentation of noobs everywhere. So ends the story of James, Greta, and server hopping dicks. Finer points of The Key: When you are in possession of a key, you are shown on your map where the vehicle that key is bound to is located. This has many implications, a cool one being that if you're part of one of those groups that wants to horde lots of vehicles, the death of a member and looting of a key could compromise your base. Of course, you can keep your vehicles unlocked but you lose the benefits of the key. Keys are not compatible with vehicles outside of map boundaries. Vehicles bound to keys respawn in their original location after 3 days of inactivity by the keyholder. If you arent playing atleast once every 3 days, which is a full weekend, then other players deserve to have fun with the vehicle you're in possession of. If you set your vehicle to unlocked mode, it'll stay until whatever the current respawn time is right now for inactive vehicles (7 days I think?). This compromises the increased security with requiring you to be more active to maintain your vehicle. More to come Intentions of The Key I hope that with something like this implemented, active players can feel safe to log off and expect to have their vehicles there the next day. Although it may be hard to believe, this can actually make the logistics of a small group of people hoarding a lot of vehicles much more difficult. If you lose a member and his key is found, it can lead players to your base. If your base is spread out to avoid this, it is more likely to be found anyway since that's more locations for a lucky player to stumble upon. I think it will also facilitate interesting scenarios as well. Say you find a camp consisting of 3 locked cars. You can estimate they have atleast 3 players, so its a decent sized group. You cant steal the car just yet, but you know since the cars are there theyve been used within the last 3 days, meaning its likely they'll be back soon. You can set up a ambush at their base to take those players out and get their precious keys. I think this adds to the sandbox style of Day Z. As it is now, you stumble upon a camp of people, take their cars, run over their tents, rape their women all while they are asleep. They log in the next day and no interesting game play has happened, theyre just screwed since they werent on the game 24 hours a day to guard it. Once again, more to come hopefully Last section- Questions and Answers Q. Is implementation of something like this possible in the scope of the mod? OR! Is this idea worth the pain in the ass of implementing entire new systems? A. I don't know, but I hope someone in the know can shed light on this. Q. Can other players steal gear from a locked vehicle? A. Another reason I created this thread here. Id like to hear your ideas on this if it were to be implemented. Should a locked car be reasonably safe storage? Q. How do cars become unbound? A. Inactivity respawning, willful unbinding (dropping your key), being destroyed outright (Doable but now tougher to accomplish, as part of my example) Q. Wont this make hoarding easier? A. Yes and No. Keys leading you back to a persons vehicle could make vehicles change hands more quickly. Vehicles being able to be locked doesn't necessarily make hoarding easier. It could very well end up being a bunch of solo players or small groups with locked cars making it difficult for large clans to accumulate and hoard all the vehicles, as many tend to do now. Q. What about something like this for tents? A. Tents are infinitely less rare and much easier to hide than a bus. A system like this is not needed for them. Feedback- Please be constructive and let me know if you like or don't like the idea and tell me what you'd like to change about it. Thanks for reading the thread and my horrible writing.

    Give Tents/Vehicles Inventory Space Counters

'Your basically saying the same as lets not have a car to get us somewhere quicker because we have legs.' When the hell did I ever say, 'we shouldn't have vehicles in game.'? But seriously though, they're only good for storage. Having a vehicle is a commodity, and in most cases, it's subject to theft. There are three vehicles that are tactically colored....three. This means that someone will quickly find the other vehicles (I personally can see the URAL, even in dense forest coverage in a valley, from 500-700 meters away.) It's indeed a more "common sense" approach to walk on foot to a city, village, or industrial complex. Vehicles make noise, are brightly colored, and generally stand out even when parked 100-300 meters within tree-lines. If the developers add camo netting or paint cans to the game so that you can change how a vehicle is perceived, that would benefit us all greatly.

    Car Binding System Discussion

Because the idea of owning something outright is stupid for DayZ. If you say "Well, he has the key to the car, it's his now, no one can take it, just destroy it" then basically vehicles are useless, as they'd have to be hidden extremely far off the map to avoid being spotted and destroyed. You can't have a mechanic that doesn't allow theft, this is DayZ, theft is half the game. I dont think you fully read or understood the concept of my idea. First of all, I said that in my vision for this update, vehicles would be a lot harder to outright destroy. This is something I believe already needs to happen anyway. Since when can you make cars explode with small arms or by hitting a road block at 20 KMH? I fired 10 rounds out of my M4 at some guys tractor today and it exploded, TWICE somehow. Thats dumb. Thats removing vehicles from play for long periods of time for almost no reason. Thats not realistic. Second of all, I stated that this binding system would only apply to vehicles within the confines of the map. This is one of the key points to make this idea work. You have to find the persons vehicle before you can ambush them. The idea is that you're finding more vehicles because of this, because its now safer to leave vehicles near where other people may stumble and inside map boundaries. Third, and possibly most important, this doesn't remove theft from Day Z. You can still steal their shit out of their car. Want the car itself? Ambush the guy on the way back to his car. What does all this mean? It means there's still theft, for one. It should mean you're seeing more vehicles within the area of play, and not hidden 200 miles from the map boundary. It should mean that cars are still being stolen left and right, except instead of "I was sleeping and I woke up and my car is gone" it could now be "I was heading back to base camp and a crazy firefight ensued over possession of the vehicle". Theres a actual confrontation now instead of simple moving loot from one place to another. I think thats cool. I'm glad criticism is coming and thats why I posted this here. Im glad you disagree with me. However, I think many of your points are false, namely the fact that this idea is in any way shape or form trying to remove theft from Day Z. I mean come on, did you not read the part where when you die and get looted, people will now KNOW where your vehicle is? That is 100% stab a bitch and steal that shit territory.
  7. Odds are it is one of the hundreds of other players that play and they just stumble across your vehicles. There is NO way to hide anything in dayz at the moment. There was a guy who used the map hack to make a movie of player movements over a well populate area (I think it was taken down recently) that showed about 80% of the map was well traveled by players. The few places that would not normally see heavy traffic see it because everyone thinks those places are well hidden but in reality the fact that they are good hiding places on paper make them poor places to hide things in real life.
  8. That isn't the truck that got stolen, sorry for pointing the finger, it's only because when we found the vehicle we had. About 2 minutes away from the location we were shot by 2 of your guys coming out of Pustoshka. It may not be you then, but there is definitely a regular user of the server who is stealing both our vehicles.

    vehicles not spawning anymore?

Some servers simply do not have vehicles, but the problem here is that we have had them for weeks and all of them except for one land and one water vehicle just vanished. Not stolen, as I cannot see all of the hiding places being discovered kilometers apart in one night, but simply gone and never respawned.

    vehicles not spawning anymore?

I've been playing on a server that restarts every morning, I check most of the vehicle spawn points and have yet to find one, not even one needing repair so not sure if it's people on the server I play on hoarding vehicles or them just not spawning. It's strange to not find at least 1 to me anyways.

    vehicles not spawning anymore?

So have any other admins been having trouble such as this? Does anyone have a possible fix? It is quite annoying to no longer have vehicles on the server after having them for so long. First nobody has helicopters anymore, now all vehicles are going. Walking is so terrible.

    Banned from NY68 (Admin Abuse)

Sounds like another case of an admin getting sand in his vajay and getting pissy. Not to mention he could easily alter the logs, could he not? Anyways, I've seen admins do stupid stuff. For example, a seemingly random server restart after 3 people are killed and 3 vehicles with loot stolen... hmmmmmmmmm. I have yet to see an admin who doesn't in some way use his/her power to their advantage.

    Car Binding System Discussion

Need a tldr, but I think the way vehicles spawn and anyone can take them is awesome. If people were able to bind them to their character it would cause way too much hoarding. Just what I think.

    Lost 3 tents

What Vipeax. This is also a known bug when sometimes servers restart tents/cars will be missing. Admins can not spawn gear/vehicles nor can they slay players. Also mods have no say over cheat reporting. Please stop saying so.

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

Please show us where all the vehicles are stored. You will find out its OFF THE EFFING MAP. Noone cares to fix.
  18. You play the wrong game. You CANT outrun zombies, only in vehicles. Since the game SOOO realistic, how am I running empty with the same speed as a guy with fully loaded backpack and weapons ?
  19. Ned (DayZ)

    Suggestions from Ned.

Alot of this may already be covered on here, but i'm not reading the whole damn forum, so here we go... Zombies. They need to move slower outdoors and faster indoors. I have no problem with fast zombies, but they're too fast and it looks silly imo. Have them run faster than the player, but not too much more. Also, the difference in zed movement speed indoor/outdoor is absurd. The worlds fastest zombies become the slowest upon entering a building. This gap needs narrowed a bit, but first you may have to fix the obvious clipping and pathing issues zeds currently face indoors. Broken legs. I'm all for it, but it currently happens too frequently and it's not very realistic the way it is implemented. Broken legs should be a rare occurrence. Maybe a small percentage if the player is being attacked whilst on stairs, vaulting a fence, falling etc. Add broken arm, it would make more sense with the zed attack animation. With broken arm, you can only use your sidearm until the break is dealt with. To fix your arm, you must set the bone(10sec vulnerability period), then inject morphine which should be changed to take instant effect when used. Bleeding. Also happens too frequently imo. Make it happen less, but increase the penalty. Perhaps the blood scent can have a chance to attract a horde or a stonger alpha type zed. New rare tool: Spike Strip. Can be thrown in front of oncoming vehicles to kill their wheels. Has a 30 minute cooldown that despawns the previous strip upon completion. Inventory system. It's pretty annoying sometimes, anyone agree? Let us use the stuff in our backpacks. Food/drink/meds/cook meat etc. Swapping items back and forth all the time just kills the fun. If I have any free space available, the item I am trying to pick up should go there automatically and there needs to be a quick loot option that allows you to pickup items by mouseover and key press. Also, guns/items shouldn't disappear if you don't have enough room in your backpack for them. Vehicle hoarding needs balanced. It sucks that 95% of the vehicles are tucked away in the furthest reaches of Chernarus never to be seen. Vehicles stored past a certain distance away from the nearest town should be despawned and respawned. This will increase the chance of players actually coming across vehicles. New rare military spawn: Ammo Crate. Contains a randomly generated amount (1-6) of mags/clips for every weapon type. Get rid of the hour glass. Nothing kills the immersion like a huge green/white hour glass blocking your screen. You can do better than that. Separate bandit/survivor traits. Bandits make less noise and can carry more ammunition but are more prone to injury. Survivors get back more blood from eating, can hydrate from rain water, and can fish water sources for food. Or something like that. Loving the mod so far, but you've definitely just scratched the surface, there is so much potential. Best of luck on the development, things can only get better from here imo. Keep up the good work. -Ned Here is another... Allow us to create 2 characters, no more, no less. I think it's only fair; people should be able to experience both bandit and survivor gameplay. A character for each. Also, it sucks when you play with a group. If they're not online, I don't even want to play because of how long it takes to get regrouped if anyone continues to play outside the group's hours of operation. Not to mention I want them by my side when shit goes down. I don't want to have to spend an hour a day getting everyone back together, by the time we actually get something going, people have to leave. Wish I could have a character for co-op play and a character for solo play.

    Storage and hording

This has to be the dumbest fucking thread in these forums lol. Tent and vehicle hoarding is amazing for players like me that doesn't pitch tents but spends time searching for yours!!! There is no better feeling than finding a camp and looting the shit out of it and stealing the vehicles. The shear heart pounding experience of knowing they could return to catch you....ive been caught in the act several times and killed but its worth it just for that wave of excitement and the massive grin it brings to the face. My team love these search and destroy camp attacks and has given us some major gunbattle gameplays and the best laugh ever on dayz. I do agree tho that anything placed off the map should be deleted!!! It makes it easier for us to find ;)

    US74 Camp Raid

That was the loot from Manny's camp :( As to why the late night gang decided to take it to Cherno' date=' I can't say. I wouldn't rule out alcohol. So the question is, will the server run out of vehicles before they start respawning? :D
  22. Pickerd

    Banned from Dallas 22 server

This is exactly why the devs should have never put such harsh restrictions on server admins. They can't build our little corner of the game. ive never had any probs like this in my BF3 servers or my TF2 servers. They are ran well and if someone gets banned, they can appeal on the forums which are reviewed by a 5 strong admin squad. You can ask any of my regulars (The Lizard Lounge on Steam or Battlelog) what they think of the server or it's admins. And I didnt need Dice or anyone else to tell me how to run them. The crappy servers with bad admins? They do exist, not saying they don't, but generate a bad rep and sit empty too. Can ensure we dont get bombarded with hackers, tweeny ragers, racists, exploiters and those who thing the freedom of the internet means you can publicly berate people. My servers are full all day and most the night because of the atmosphere and sense of community they have. What the devs here want is an MMO where the server admins are basically in GM's, and thats fine, if they didnt foot the bill. You can't have a paid MMO where the front line workers not only dont get paid, they actually have to pay. Ever heard of a GM for an MMO being required to pay to be a GM? No. They dont exist. But that is how DayZ is right now. If you want an MMO devs, charge the players and host your own server clusters. Cant do that though eh. Mod would get nowhere fast, so obviously that is far from an option, but it is an MMO I would be interested in that's for sure, as long as their was something done about cheating. These guys are fair ppl, and they are catching alot of flak over 3 guys who come on the forums and lied about what really happened. They disco'd during a firefight. Their were multiple witnesses, one has actually replied here about it. So all that anyone has on the admins is a mistake, which is human and anyone can make, from a butthurt player who wont let it go. (btw Dark, there were actually hackers on the server when you guys raided the tents and vehicles, but even knowing that there was, and it was suspected it was you guys, they still didnt stop you guys from raiding til they were sure some hacking was happening, so you were still able to fully raid 2 of their camps, with no bans, no server restarts til AFTER. That sound like an admin that is shady to you? or was it more simpy just a mistake and they banned the wrong guys. let it go. they owned up, unbanned, caught the right ppl, and moved on. they are dong their best to help make sure players have a fair place to play, and right now, DayZ is making APB look like a church when it comes to hacking. it soooo bad in there ive stopped playing) Yup. 4 pages long, over players falsely accusing. Normal day on the server forums, but the admins are the bad guys.
  23. Awesome idea! :) Would really like to see a few more abandoned (not necessarily repairable) vehicles on the roads which spawned loot such as this, travelling inland the roads all seem pretty deserted and too clear .. Maybe you should also be able to pry open the boots of abandoned vehicles with crowbars to find more loot, perhaps with a chance of the car alarm going off, for added horde-attracting fun ^^
  24. I'm tired of every server having one clan/group of guys that control all of the cars, some have up to 8 or 9 vehicles in their possession and it's ridiculous. They don't even need that many cars to use as transportation for their entire group, a UAZ seats 7 and Sedan seats 4(5 maybe?) and Vans have to seat around 5 or 6.. It's just obnoxious. I've been alive for 15 days searching for a car, and they're ALL GONE. At least cut off the map so they can't stash it out of the map, maybe create a hill that they can't get up to conceal them in the map so they can't be outside and are actually AT RISK of losing their shit rather than being safe and happy as can be 4 miles out of the map..
  25. @icomrade Will have a look into it I guess, might need to hop back on IRC for help regarding it, because I'm using R4Z0R's scripts and BEC with auto shutdown in order to do my auto reboot, and the profanity filter doesn't seem to get loaded in either, must just be a config error I've made I guess :/ @Irokez The only person who was banned was you for spamming chat with profanity/capslock none-sense, you were warned repeatedly and just kept going. Oh and in regards to the video, yes you spammed that in chat too and yes I saw it, but what you don't realize is that I have barely played on the server and what you stole were the vehicles from my friend's camp, you seem to think I personally care more by spamming the same link. The vehicles are out there somewhere and they will find them again, it's all part of the game. @Asus You are free to play as you were asked to stop speaking russian and you did, but Irokez refused to listen to admins and his ban will not be removed, he can wait it out until the temp ban has expired naturally.
