  1. Hah, just kidding. I read a lot of threads with players complaining about everything, nighttime is too dark, guns are hard to find, keep getting killed etc. Well, before I first played I watched a fair few youtube videos, read these forums and the wikipedia and this game isn't anywhere near as hard as I've heard. Granted within the first hour I had to youtube how to bandage a wound in day z, but hey, I'm new to ArmA and Day z, now, one day later I consider myself to be quite adapted to this game. I've gone to the airfields, managed to grab a DMR for myself, killed two players with that, one because he was going to die from the zombie eating him alive anyway, and two because it was self defence. I don't plan on using the sniper to sit on a hill at elektro and kill unarmed players, whats the fun in that? may as well kill zombies. Anyway, I now have a tent in a hidden location filled with the weapons I've been collecting, winchesters, sidearms, cz550 and an M16. So weapons truely aren't hard too find. Heres a tip, find a town/few buildings with a building that has two exits, long barns are the best. Crouch run through this area, try grab what you need, if zombies attack, run through the barn, lose them, continue grabbing anything else. Move on and repeat elsewhere. Night time is mean't to be dark, however its still possible to see relatively well at times, if not, use your damn flashlight. I have died about four or five times so far, first time because of being trapped in a building by zombies hehe, next two times were from players (eh, shouldn't have been in elektro/Cherno) the next two times were because of broken legs/low blood, you have to accept you'll die, don't go crawling from town to town looking for morphine because your legs are broken, this is a game, mean't to be fun not a chore. die and try again. The only areas I'm struggling with atm are trying to fix vehicles, I found an ATV and all systems appear to be good to go, I refueled it but it doesn't move. Any ideas? Anyway, point of this thread was just to share my experience so far, and hopefully help some players that are struggling. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free!
  2. But Suspenselol, why do we want that server persistence? If you always play on the same server, why would you need a central database? Most people always play on the same server due to vehicles and tents, so why do we need to ability to have our characters the same on all servers? If they would let my server have it's own database, i would no longer be required to accept the strict rules on hosting a DayZ server and i would be able to set up servers with each different settings (e.g. PvP on/off) and all players have the ability to choose what they like to play! Also, server hopping is completely gone!

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

I fully support this ellimination of out-of-bounds vehicle saving. Just one question though, to all those complaining about not being able to find a vehicle within the map boundaries: How hard are you looking? Yesterday I went for a drive along the edge of the map, and found no less than three fully repaired vehicles in the forests WITHIN the map boundaries. Not every vehicle on the server is going to be saved out of bounds (unless you're on a server with helicopters enabled, in that case odds are one person controls every vehicle on the server) Anyone complaining about not being able to find a vehicle is not looking in teh right places. Though I'd suggest anticipating a lot of vehicles to reappear in their default spawn points once everything outside the map is reset.

    EndGame

I play as part of a pretty large group. There could be 15 to 20 of us on any given night, and we either roll as a group to loot towns like Stary or the NWAF or we will split into 4-5 man squads and do specific runs, like finding vehicles or gather medical supplies. Since we are such a large bunch made up of different playstyles, there is always someing getting in a jam, or dieing. It seems like my squad runs at least one search and rescue mission every time i log on, be it to the coast to help a respawn, or the middle of the woods to help a mate that fell out of a tree stand and has no food or morphine left. Stuff like that adds a level of urgency after you have geared up with all the goodies you personally want. Tonight we are going on a bandit hunt at all the regular hotspots. Hopefully we will help out a few people gearing up along the way. I will probably get killed, losing all my neat gear that has taken me 2 weeks to gather and loot, but so be it. Getting to this level is half the fun.

    us176 hacker

Someone was hacking in vehicles, turned everyone into dogs then erased the inventory. Happened at about 11:00pm (GMT+10) and who knows when it started. Attached is a picture of me as a dog next to my body, it's a bit hard to see due to the tree but yep, I'm a dog. Then there is a list of players in the next image. Caution: images are 1080p Oh yeah, it was ~11:00pm (GMT+10) Friday, 6th July in Australia. Tried submitting a ticket but couldn't log in so not sure what's up there.
  6. Great news! I have no problem with people setting up tents off map if they can be bothered, but vehicles are very limited and it's no fun for smaller groups if they never get to see them or play with them. So it's a good thing that you can no longer stash vehicles off map (of course, resetting off-map vehicles kinda solves the off-map tent problem as well anyway). I've been playing almost every day for a month and have literally never seen a repairable vehicle. I hope to see one soon.

    Power Of Server-Admins?

Stuff like this is NEVER a coincidence. Server admins seem to abuse their powers all over the place, often in this exact way. Other times, they lock down their servers for "testing", rounding up all the vehicles while it's locked. I can't say I blame them. After all, good DayZ servers aren't cheap, and you basically get nothing in return for hosting one. But it still sucks.
  8. i know the kids running this server and yes they have been kicking players they dont know which is retarded, they also shut the server down at night when its there bedtime, as they dont want ppl finding there vehicles. needless to say not running with them anymore.

Base Defenses ( Document included )

I love the idea here. To be honest, the turrets shouldnt be possible to blow up with normal weapons, you would need a rocket to take them out, and one camp could have 4 turret's at max, and to set one up, you would need 4 sandbags, and the turret parts. And they could look something like the old comand and conquer turrets. and could be upgrade 2times after getting built. Normal: Machinegun aka M249, MK48 mod, all with thermal sight, capable of killing up to 150meters To destroy these you would need: -4 nades -One Rocket 1st Upgrade: Submachine gun for close quarter: effective range 150Meters, grenade launcher/rocket launcher for vehicles effective range: 100 meters To destroy these you would need: -8nades -2 rockets 2nd upgrade: Sub machine gun, grenade/rocket launcher similar to the first upgrade. However they would also have a one time use sam rocket to take down helicopters, and you would need to reload this rocket each time its fire by using rocket launcher ammo. -Rocket: Effective range 300meters To destroy it, would require 4rockets, and they would be immune to grenade damage and gun fire. These are just suggestions and are pretty borderline crazy i know. But take head, that this would take alot of time and team effort to maintain. Im talking repairs needed everyday, a crap ton of parts needed, and for each upgrade you would have to increase the parts needed, or the turret would downgrade again. Weapons were just a spare of the moment thing and can be adjusted, but i think it's a musthave to have diffrent types of weapons on the turret, depending on what people can have. Reading a post earlier regarding a generator these could be implemented together, and would truly make things diffrent from what they are now, and teamwork would really benefit people. As it is now my whole clan have stopped storeing anything in tents besides medical supplies, no point as the trees are to spread out to be worthwhile having a campsite in, you can server hop past "wirefencing and sandbags" bear traps wont change anythin either. So for the time beeing we have no valid means of keeping a base up and running as servers keep eating our tents aswell, so currently the whole tenting buiseness aren't usefull for anything but luring people to them so we can kill them.. So this whole thread gets a huge + from me. Well made plan mate, hopeing to see this getting developed further! -Z
  10. Now you and your clan have a new objective. Protect the assets you hold so dear. This is part and parcel of survival. Before this was even implemented me and my clan would hide our camps within map borders and actively try to protect and defend said camp. I find this a lot of fun and adds so much to the gaming experience and immersion. You must have such a boring game hording all your gear in a location where there is absolutely no threat. There might as well be locks on tents and vehicles and players are unable to be looted. I'm yawning just thinking about it. Oh well, it has been implemented now and IMHO it's for the better. This means players will now have to actively camp within the gaming borders instead of cowardly hiding with all their cookies out in the middle of nowhere. GJ Dev team, another step in the right direction! Look, everyone, an advanced player, right here. I agree with everything said here.

  12. Hello, since yesterday the server NL11 has been down... Problem is i have a tent with so many shit inside and 2 vehicles!!!!! Is there any way to get my stuff back? I hope the server will get online, but i doubt it :( http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/245688 http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/91.233.105.52:2302/ Name: DayZ Zombie RPG - NL11 (v1.7.1.5/94364) Hosted by: vpshosting.nl iXec & AciDCooL Game: ARMA 2 Browse: ARMA 2 Servers Address: 91.233.105.52 Port: 2302 Status: Dead Server Manager: None - Claim Now!
  13. I can agree on vehicles, since there is a limited amount of them on each server. (correct me if im wrong). But at the same time, nothing stops you from raiding their camp and taking their vehicles either, now does it? And i haven't been playing that long or that much, but i've still seen busses, tractors, lorries, dirt bikes and normal bikes. Aquired both bikes and dirt bikes. Dont go to NEAF or NWAF without adequate gear, or be prepared to fight atleast. Get a friend, one of you loots and one keeps watch. Wouldnt it be easier for them to delete all unwanted items that have been hacked into the game? I know people have hacked apaches and a-10s atleast. And im also neither a pussy, cheater nor hoarder. Ad hominem doesnt award you any points.

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

Quit using vehicles about a week ago due to the volume of people who magically discover camps when you park vehicles in there. I had a few camps, one with and one without. The one with never lasted more than a few hours before being infested with Ghille wearing M1A4 SD wielding warpers, the one without has been un-found for 2 week. Make of that what you will but I know what my deductions lead me to believe.
  15. Acebane and the other hoarders... You know, if you ke the military gear and hate looking for it, and you like working in squads... There's this cool game that's almost like Dayz. And you don't have to log in to drink soda or eat beans or avoid non-threatening zombies. What you really want to be playing is Arma II. You should go do that. You can team up. No zombies (since they mean no threat to you). All the vehicles and weapons you could want without all that boring duplicating... I mean server hopping... I mean amazing luck that everyone has a super rare weapon, full kit and NVGs. Too many people want to play Arma but hang around here and circumvent the spirit of the game to play Arma with zombies. Maybe the real Arma players are too skilled for you, so you'd prefer popping noobs in Stary Sobor so you can feel like Carlos Hathcock or whatever his name is.
  16. Yes, RGO frag grenade only spawns on UAZ vehicles. Its legit.
  17. thanks for this, should mean some more vehicles around for newer players

    US233 Vehicle Spawns

It seems that your servers suffers from the usual virus: a small team has collected all vehicles and stored them off map. Until one or more vehicles are destroyed they will no longer spawn in the map. Yes, it sucks.

how to learn aiming / shooting

Armory is also very helpfull. You can train with vehicles, everything.
  20. No. When the game releases it will be wiped. Until then it's useless, people are restarting all the time -- If you want a spectrum of different level players for testing patches you will not get that by wiping people. What if the next patch adds a bug that makes it so when you turn on night vision goggles you get an extra pair in your BP? Or the server crashes? Forum warriors and PvE care bears are always after a wipe like it will make them better at the game -- "lets level the playing field guys it's so unfair!!". Guess what, you'll be getting sniped again within a day. Not all of the "super leet" gear in the game is from hackers or duping. Clans raided airfields and crash sites / worked together to get vehicles and used those to access more high loot areas and collect better items. It will happen again and you'll be getting shot again as you shuffle around with your torch. Rocket's well aware that this isn't just "any old alpha", the sales figures for Arma II went up by 500% and while he's free to do what he wants, he's not being reckless. That being said, everyone starting over would be a hilarious 10 minute scene. It would be like battle royal with everyone frantically running to buildings with their torches trailing zombies everywhere until someone finds a gun then doubles back to the beach...

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

You don't need to be an ESP hack to find the tents on the map. Ask the people on US153, We've destroyed just about every tent on the map. Combing the forests is simple. Tents are harder to hide than vehicles. We've destroyed 200+ tents in the last few days on one single server. Finding tents deployed in forests is easier than finding one to deploy. You get a nice offroad vehicle and just drive around looking for them. I could find all the tents on a server quicker than someone could find a single tent in an area 10km2 next to my house. The only purpose tents serve on the map is to give free shit to people who don't deserve it.
  22. Now it's getting ridiculous, it is clear that someone just stored all vehicles somewhere off-map. Except for an old bike in 10 days we were unable to find any kind of vehicle. I sincerely hope that a meteor hits your camp, dear Mr-I-have-all-of-them. I hope rocket will be able to find a better solution for vehicles because there is totally no fun on having zero vehicles avaiable in a server because someone stored them all in hide. I agree that anyone can do whatever he wants with a vehicle but I feel like vehicles are being stolen from the server. Ah yes, I am mad at the moment. Well, actually this http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=29123 may help solve the problem.
  23. Lol at all the haters who don't like people hiding shit outside the map. People hide things outside the map (big inconvenience for the hider) because the game is alpha (broken mechanics) and there is no consistent system for protecting/hiding your shit on the map. You may have 10 people in your clan, and your ability to make sure your shit doesn't get jacked for the two hours you don't have anyone online is non-existent. Stop being haters, and find a perspective that doesn't involve, "Where'z all de vehicles? : ( " Game mechanics are what they are people do what they do to adjust to that. (and I'm just refering to people randomly finding your shit in the woods, not the rampant vehicle/player ESP hacking, or multiple hacked helicopters I see on nearly every server that flying around looking for people's shit. ^.^
  24. This won't do much to stop hoarding unless the inactivity timer for out of bounds vehicles is really, really short. Otherwise they're just going to cycle through their fleet of Cadillacs once a day to stop them from despawning. I'd say make them despawn if they're off the map for more than an hour or two, regardless of whether or not they're being used by players. There's absolutely no legitimate reason for players to take a vehicle out of bounds for that long.
  25. Vehicle Wipe ENGAGED!! All vehicles we had, *(NOT out of bounds)* Gone, oh well gives us a reason to go hunting for them again.
