I know that this has been suggested before, but not in the way I envision it. When you choose one of the following survivor backgrounds, you do not get different items on spawn or anything. Instead, you receive little class specific buffs, abilities, and a corresponding armband to designate them as each class. All of the buffs are designed so that they would benefit a group more than an individual. By having these little buffs, it will encourage people to work together as opposed to shooting on sight. I will give explanations about each survivor ability at the bottom of this post. THESE ARE IDEAS TO BE IMPLEMENTED WHEN THE DESIGNERS SHIFT GAME ENGINES, NOT FOR THE DERPY ARMA II ENGINE. PLEASE JUDGE THESE IDEAS WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE DIFFICULTY WITH WHICH THEY WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED. Medical Background (Medic): Carries out medical treatments on other survivors twice as fast and can perform them while moving. Also gains the 'apply pressure' ability that will allow them to stop bleeding for as long as both survivors are not moving. (in case there are no bandages) Any survivors within 3m of the medic will regain 1 blood unit per second. DOES NOT APPLY TO SELF OR OTHER MEDICAL PERSONNEL. DOES NOT STACK. Military Background (Soldier): Gains ability 'Rally' which gives designated survivors +20% Accuracy with firearms when within 30m of Soldier. DOES NOT APPLY TO SELF, DOES NOT STACK. The survivor that chooses this Background will also gain a +5% Accuracy bonus. Gains ability 'Blood Brothers' to be used on another Soldier. When within 3m of each other, reload speed is doubled. CAN ONLY BE USED ON OTHER SOLDIERS AND IS 2-WAY. Engineering Background (Engineer): Can build kits twice as fast. (Tank traps, wire fencing, campfires, ect) Gains ability 'Tinker'. Tinker allows the engineer to make vehicles run 1.5x as efficiently (i.e. 200L of gas will make a car go as far as it would if it had 300L of gas.) Gains ability 'Blockade'. Blockade allows the Engineer to force a door to stay closed against mid level damage. Blockade would have a cooldown. Gains ability 'Overclock' Overclock allows the Engineer to mod flashlights to shine brighter, but will permanently burn out if left on for longer than 5 minutes straight. Athletic Background (Athlete): No negative effects from prolonged sprinting. Gains ability 'Carry'. Can pick up a wounded or unconscious survivor and run with them. Cannot shoot or use items while carrying. Gains ability 'Show Off'. When within 30m of a friendly survivor, Athletes do 50% bonus damage with melee weapons. Athletes will autovault over obstacles. Social Background (Socialite): Can see how many survivors someone has killed. Gains ability 'Disguise'. Can change the appearance of the armband so that they may trick other survivors or bandits into thinking that they are of another background. Gains ability 'Surrender'. Surrender waves a white flag and forces the user to disarm for 60 seconds. If hit by a zombie or survivor, the 60 second wait time is cleared. Gains ability 'Sabotage'. Sabotage allows the Socialite to make a gun jam, a car not start, or a grenade explode instantly when the pin is pulled. Socialites will see English subtitles beneath the Russian on the signs throughout the world. Hunter Background (Scout): Gains ability 'Track'. Track allows the scout to examine the ground for tracks. The traveled path of the trackee will glow for the Scout. Gets 50% extra meat from hunting animals. Crossbow bolts fired by the Scout will have a trail along its flight path allowing for an easier retrieval. Survivors within 5m of the Scout will have their noise levels reduced by one bar. Loner Background (Lone Wolf): Gains +1000 maximum blood. When within 30m of other survivors, accuracy goes down by 25%. Gains ability 'Adrenaline Rush'. Adrenaline Rush increases sprint speed by 25%, forces the player out of shock and allows them to WALK on a broken bone. Adrenaline rush lasts 20 seconds. For this duration, bleed rate is multiplied by 4. Adrenaline Rush can only be used once every 24 hours. Medic- Meant to be the most sought after member of a group. Disguising as a Medic is a bad idea since Disguise doesn't give the socialite the small healing aura. Soldier- Supposed to be a leader type. Blood brothers is a bond between two soldiers that will allow for a last stand next to each other with nonstop firing. Engineer- More of an independent background. Would be sought after if a small group had a vehicle. The Engineer's blockade ability would allow for a moment's rest when a group or individual dives into a small house to escape a ravenous horde. Athlete- The first line of defense, meant to do heavy lifting. Socialite- A bandit's best friend. They can swap out their armband to trick a group into accepting them. If a group already has a couple of medics and a Scout, one could disguise themselves as a Soldier so they could more effectively infiltrate their group. Surrender is meant so that a player could effectively declare I AM FRIENDLY to other players. Most of the shooting I've seen is due to everyone living in fear of being shot. This would allow a short cease fire so that a player could negotiate as opposed to open firing. Sabotage would be useful in group vs. group situations. A socialite could leave a bunch of sabotaged equipment out in the open for the enemy. The ability to read the Russian signs is meant to be an incentive for all groups to have a Socialite with them. Scout- Great for sneaking and chasing enemy bandits/survivors. Lone Wolf- For people who want to play the game solo. Adrenaline Rush is meant as a risky escape. Bleeding horribly and limping from a zombie horde could be better than laying their being eaten. The Lone Wolf would have an incentive to avoid large groups. The final goal with these classes is to reduce the amount of survivors killing each other. I want a bandit to aim his sights at a survivor, see that he is a medic, then threaten him into healing him. Better yet, I want people to keep an active look out for the other classes so that they can all benefit from each others' presence. PLEASE COMMENT WITH FEEDBACK OR OTHER BACKGROUND IDEAS!

vehicles are far more limited than everyone on dayz running around with multiple characters, muling is not the biggest issue though
-
i could be intrested but im already in NCR. join it. it has 30 members. and almost everyone gets accepted in clan. but there's been some hackers so we've been banning them so no hackers welcome. we got trucks, vehicles and awesome gear. Teamspeak:ts.pcrpg.org:9989

Hey, I've been soloing for sometime now, got a bit of experience... but I feel its time to do some co-op. I want to look at repairing vehicles etc. And this is done much easier with more than 1 person or a team. I'm from the Uk also, Yorkshire. I'm 25. Let me know if you want to give it a go. Cheers

Actual Game-Play map size - which is it?
replied to Khors's topic in New Player Discussion
"Unethical to run the edge of the world as the loot is more valuable inland" Yeah, the loot is in the inland but when hiding it to tents or saving vehicles for later logons one should try to find an undisclosed location for it/them. -
Those things already exist when you can just hoard vehicles and hide them off the map or in the forest. A second character will do nothing about muling, vehicles have bigger storage anyway.

Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
madmaxusmc replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We "1/9-WDU" have provided proof to the Day Z staff through the ticket system. We have won some battles and lost some. We welcome aggressive action against us. That's why we are a military realism unit. A few days ago we lost 6 men in an engagement, our tents were crushed, and our vehicles destroyed. We lost everything. No one was banned and the subject wasn't even discussed. In fact, ShadowWalker ET AL has the fine distinction of being the first group of players to banned for gratuitous exploiting. Our server is a tough but fair environment. We hold our own clan members to the same standard. Our first clan rule addresses this very situation. You can see that at http://wdu.enjin.com/handbook You and your friends might want to realize that there are people who play this game because they enjoy the challenge. We don't want to cheat, we don't want everything to come easy. The fun is getting the gear, defending it, and learning from each loss. The fact that you lost 4 men even though you clearly exploited is a testament to the skill of the individuals on sentry duty at the time. These men will be awarded medals and accolades accordingly. It doesn't prove anything about whether or not you where ghosting. As I said before, you and your friends are banned from our server unless the Day Z staff says otherwise. If they overrule our ban then you will be allowed back on immediately. -
You are severely mislead. I agree hacking is a much larger issue but, 1 - Players who have taken PvP damage and log out are knocked out for 3 minutes upon logging back in. That's in the game already, Rocket has said he's looking at more. 2 - This can be a bug caused by the female skin. Some players experience it, and when they do, they can't see anybody using the female skin. 3/4 - I'm, sure they're looking for fixes... this is alpha. 5 - There are no hitboxes in ArmAII, and therefore aimbot hacks DO NOT EXIST! Hacking in gear and vehicles do, as well as many others but aimbots do not exist. I know CQF's servers have taken the brunt of hackers and rest assured, Rocket knows about it. I can't even play on my own clans servers anymore because hackers love to shit on the "good guys."

I realise that it is within their power to kick people, but repeatedly kicking anyone who is not one of their friends seems like cheating to me since they have the whole server to themselves. From what I've seen it's the clans [bF2], [PRIDE] and [PRO] doing this. This kind of behavior really sucks, me and my friends spent at good 12+ hours on that server yesterday setting up a camp and repairing vehicles. The server name is also very misleading, saying it's 1.7.1.1 when it's really 1.7.1.5. I don't know if that's a mistake or if the admins have changed the name to keep people out. I also found this thread about the same issue: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?mode=linear&tid=26214&pid=231480 For some reason adding attachements isn't working for me. You'll find the proof in the following links http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4504/2012070600003.jpg http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3686/2012070600004.jpg http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/554/2012070600005.jpg Edit: This started happening around 08:00 gmt+1, and is still happening now, 19:00 gmt+1.

I'm getting pissed, too. They're resetting every 6 hours or so, and now one of my vehicles got despawned. WITH MY BOX OF MATCHES, DAMMIT. ...weird that I'm more upset about the matches than the tractor.

Luckiest loot you've discovered?
esuoh replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found an Ural and a Pickup Truck filled with 20+ weapons, magazines, jerry cans, food, water, etc. A week ago (before finding the vehicles) I spotted an AFK guy in the middle of the woods. I walked up to him, checked his backpack, took NVG, GPS, L8 AWS, Silenced Pistol, ammo, and left him there. I bet he was surprised after he came back to the game. -
Hack or no hack? Is this stuff safe to take?
Missile replied to Trekkx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is the Ural, which is a legit type of truck however it is usually blue. So I'd wager that it's 'hacked in'. Normal Blue Ural: DayZ Wiki - Vehicles: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ural_Civilian Sometimes helicopter crash sites have a lot of ammo so the gear could be legit. Whilst It's not strictly "ethical" to take/use hacked-in items I doubt you'd be banned for it -
Heres my over all review of the mod, just FYI. I'm just offering my thoughts on the game for the Devs, take it or leave it. As for trolls, I know any post ever made is kibble for them... but oh well. HOW I STARTED: I played OFP years ago and loved the MFCTI mod. Had some really fantastic times on that. So, when I a friend told me of a persistent mod for Arma 2 (even though it's a zombie mod and I don't care much for zombies) I bought Arma 2 etc expressly for this mod. The first week, theres lots to learn about how the game works. Lots of trial and errors and deaths. HIGH INTEREST AT FIRST As I got better and gained better gear, it was cool. Often found that right after I gained better gear I died... which was really disappointing. And, I've found out that the game doesn't change much as you progress. The better guns still aggro zombies like mad which discourages me from firing a weapon at all... which is disappointing. Whats the point of a game with guns where firing it once gets you instantly swarmed so that you have to burn up all your ammo, spend 10 minutes killing zombies only to have them instantly respawn, knowing all the while 5 guys will be hearing your shots and closing in on you to finish you? Ido the same thing... it a free kill. Running from zombies is your (sadly) better option though that is tedious too. I've gotten pretty good at ditching them, but it often can take 10 or more minutes in some cases. Gets old. Zombies should shamble, not run a light speed. Saw them keeping up with a jeep before. Every zombie is evidently a bionic track star. As for stealth, it often results in getting sniped OR simply getting popped by some guy running by. I've been on both ends, just trying out all aspects of the game. The easiest guys to kill are the ones trying to sneak thru town... they are sitting ducks. I even tried the crossbow. Make the bolts stackable. That one per slot business is just... not even worth it. Sniping rules the game, as far as easiest way to kill people. I'll ditch whatever gun I have for sniper every time... whether you fight zombies or people - a sniper back in the hills covering your team or popping that random looter is so easy. I don't worry about any others like I do snipers. I've used them to great effect and know just how simple it is to take people out who never knew you were there. EXPLOITS REAL AND IMAGINED There are some real exploits and some things people complain about which I don't really fuss about. The logging of, relocating and then logging back in one is by far the worst. I'd suggest that there be an individual server (for lack of a better word) "temporary ban" that affects individuals for 5 or 10 minutes when they log out under fire. IMO thats the best option. The 5 min fall down timer is glitchy and pointless. I've had it hit me even tho I logged off hours before not under gunfire or anything. Sitting there watching a 5 minute hour glass while anyone can walk by and kill you... makes me fume at the Devs and want to uninstall. Instead, just prevent them from that one server for a temp time, this prevents the whole relocate issue and "punishes" people who log off in battle in order to relocate, without killing interest in the game over all. Also, logging in where players are already present is irritating. Two guys and myself were at green mountain the other day. Just checked the area and secured it. Only one way in and out after all... when I saw zombies vanish. Two of my guys go down suddenly inside the compound... then two german guys start talking about it on comms. Then the german guys logged off before I could sneak past the remaining zombies at the gate to get a shot off. Could there be some way to... well I hesitate to say relocate... maybe delay logging in if a player is within a certain distance? Whats the point of securing an area if people can materialize out of thin air behind you? Sneak if you can, fine. Be hidden and not seen, fine. But... it was pretty aggravating to all of us, but especially the two who got taken out in this way. But dunno what can be done about it. Those two people haven't played the game since tho... and my interst has lessened due to this and other events. Even my stint trying the server changing to find a target while I was hidden, resulted in boredom for me. Whats the point in doing that? Guess some people find it fun. Yes, I admit I tried it with a sniper to test how people did it... and it turned out to be incredibly easy to get player kills that way. Just camp an important spot... change servers till you see people... and then pop them. A 15 sec log off (as suggested elsewhere many times) where if you move the timer stops would help discourage hit and runs & lessen the constant flow of forum complaints about people logging off to avoid battle; but not prevent server jumping to find targets. I've played other games online for years. It just can't be avoided that people will log even WITH a timer, and realistically you can't forbid people from logging off whenever they want to unless you just want to lose regular players to the game because its normal for people to want to survive, get bored waiting for targets and change servers, etc. As for banning them for logging off even during a fight... eh. Thats very controlling. Never seen any game I've played (free to play or pay to play) that ever banned anyone for that; and it takes away from the voluntary & fun atmosphere of the game just as much as the log and relocate people do. If I miss my shot on a guy and he logs... I just tell myself to aim better next time and imagine "he ran off" - not like its actually hard to one shot people if you aim well. I don't rage that "he got away by logging". In fact, I missed a snipe the other day on a guy and I saw him vanish (log) right after... I just chuckled thinking he was probably filled with adrenaline at the moment and shouting in his house "I LIVED WHEW!!! THAT WAS CLOSE!!!" And I missed 2 shots (was a LONG distance shot lol) on a guy and he beat feet out of there. After 2 missed shots, I figured he deserved to live to tell the story. heh Doubt the Devs will be minded to change this, but... the only option I see to prevent server hopping is to make each server an independent world. You get gear on that server, it stays on that server. As it is, someone compared the current state of things to the Sliders series. Yet here, you can go back and forth with everything at will... and quite intentionally for the purpose of jumping people, getting past defenses, or... as the case often is: people block off whole areas, and the only way they access them is by logging off and relogging via another server. Defenses are one thing but normally there would be at least ONE entrance... but with server hopping that just doesn't seem to matter. ZOMBIES Most of them just need to be slowed down. They simply sprint too fast... endlessly. I'd suggest making most of them an average, shambling speed. This way when you enter a building, you better have an exit strategy / be quick or get trapped. They won;t be there instantly, so you have a short time (unlike the current way of them always getting there). And they don't all chase you across half the map of Chenarus. You can actually out run them. I like that some go really slow (crawlers) and you sometimes miss them as they are kind of sneaky. And then leave just a few faster... maybe the priest clothed ones. That way everyone dreads the priest ones because they are the quickest. I'd even say that the priest ones could take 2-3 shots to kill. Some variety in zombies, in other words, would be interesting and it would make those cathedral loot spawns more... intimidating since priests spawn there more. Respawn rate is too high. I was in a building killing more zombies at the door than were in the entire city as I passed thru. And saw the same from the outside once. Guy endlessly killing zombies in a building, and I saw them spawn over and over and over and run in. That occurs all too often. Slower zombies and even harder to kill zombies (some of them) would be fine. But super fast running and instant respawn... eh. A PERSISTENT MOD, WITH NO PERSISTENT VALUE As far as the mod specifically goes, it is different. And it held my interest highly for about two weeks. But, I've already started sensing disinterest. Not burn out really, though I have played it maniacally for this period of time. Just disinterest. Theres no lasting investment in the game to hold you when you die. No cache of goods, no gear you keep, no scoreboard even of past feats or records. There is *nothing* persistent really about this game. It certainly has some intense moments, but what I'm trying to say is there needs to be *some* aspect that is persistent beyond dying and losing everything (gear and score). I'd love to at least keep my backpack (an empty copy of it) once I restart. I mean, you need to feel like you've earned *something* out of that previous life. And a score board for your character would be a great step in the right direction. So. I've gone lives helping people (always ends in me being killed by people), and even went one life being a full blown bandit. Got 10 kills, but the last attempt turned fatal for me. I attacked a squad of guys - I took out 4 pretty quickly but a 5th guy popped me. Not bad imo. Yet, theres no record of it for me to see or to show anyone... So when you start over... with nothing... theres no attachment/investment in the game. I've already seen several people I know who play, die and stop playing at that moment. When you lose even your score, theres nothing to hold on to. Nothing to look at and say "I did that, see!" I know there will be plenty who can only shout praises for the game. Thats fine. Some will love it. I'm just giving my perspective on how you can add to the mod's durability and longevity, without changing it significantly (well, except the independent server suggestion, thats a pretty significant change). NEED MORE VEHICLES I've run so much in this game, and rarely ever gain access to vehicles. Yes, I know where spawn points are. But my point is they are not available enough. Thats half the fun of the Arma environment. More vehicles would be enjoyable. They are so rare, I don't even worry about seeing one when I run down the road. When I first started I wondered if running down the road was a bad idea... someone might drive by and all... But it never has happened yet. Had to go to the single player mode just to play with a bike... heh. I may add more later. But, been at this for a while. Hope the Devs consider my points. Its definitely a lot of work to accomplish what you have; I just think you need to not forget that without some record or something carried over from life to life - a lot of people will find it easy to stop playing after that 50th or 100th new life with nothing... not even a kudo for killing 2k zombies.

How about random military convoys that you have to attack to get the best gear at.... just an idea. i like shooting things... but have it so you can open fire, and kill them, and if you shoot carefully, you can even get the truck they were in, or jeep, or whatever they were using, so that you can get high end vehicles from them too.

Streamer on twitch.tv playing with hackers on UK 63
m3t4lh34d replied to Nevus (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The logs are being checked now, requesting the vehicles regardless if you didn't hack them in, I still class that as being a bannable offence, in the last week we've had server issues, server crashes, and now an unbelievable stream of hackers doing stuff like this, all parties found to be involved will be banned and reported to the dayz team. We do our best to try and make sure this stuff doesn't happen so that honest players don't have to put with it. Cheers for publicly making it away to us -
No more out of bounds, camo netting instead?
lunchyyy replied to Daddy'o's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I say they should already come with all the military vehicles but for civilian vehicles you have to find them yourself. -
We should be able to find fully sick sub woofers and put them in your car so you can listen to music while you drive. You can also drive through Chern at night with chem lights in your car and your fully sick sub woofers going DOOF DOOF DOOF and everyone in Chern can hear the fully sick chem light rave going on in your car uleh. Okay minus the sub woofer part but I would like to have a radio (if possible of course) in the vehicles so that I dont have to listen to the damn car and maybe import some of my own music sort of like in GTA.

Are helis even in game yet? They were one of the earliest vehicles I know' date=' but was wondering if they were put back in. [/quote'] They are back in.

So i found a bike and a car with stuff in it both at great health in the woods...i tell my buddies hey i found vehicles (we had been searching for them and they had just gotten off for the night) we were going to get on together the next day and play...well that didn't happen, so about 2 or 3 days later we are ready to play...except that is the day the main server gets attacked....so dayz is offline so obviously we don't play. 2 days later we are all ready again, except now the server i found the stuff on....doesn't appear to exist anymore....=/ P.S the server is dallas 42, anyone know what happen to it?

NW Airfield.....With A Tractor

Honestly, it's safer than just wind sprinting around the field. Hitting people on moving vehicles can be tougher for a sniper because there's more desync. -
Basically done with this game for now. Sadly, it's just a slow paced deathmatch.
replied to boogiemanfl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All I can add to this is, I've played in a private server with friends where we have everything and there's no threat of PVP. After the honeymoon of getting all the vehicles without problems and all the top gear without any threat or risk the game becomes exceedingly dull. PVP is an absolute must in this game. Without it the game simply has no excitement. With no PVP you might as well load up the editor, spawn some zombies and a few vehicles and drive around them in circles. Don't get me wrong, I too hate losing hours of game time to some trigger happy idiot with a small dick, big gun complex. But without that high risk of running into these idiots the game has very little thrill or excitement. Death-matching isn't really the issue here. It's lack of goals and things to do. This is a prime example of today's youth on the streets. Without places like youth centers, community activities and the like, kids simply go out, vandalize, break into buildings, steal cars etc.. just for the simple fact they are bored and have no direction or goals. You will always get the small minority who're an exception to the rule ( real bandits ). But the majority of players will club together for the greater good. Don't lose faith in the mod yet. It's still to early to make such a sweeping judgement. Lets see what Rocket has planned in future releases. I'm hoping we will all be very surprised. -

Hackers on US 186 Desolation
replied to cc//Wolfpack (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thank you for reporting these hackers, they will be banned immediately script spawning is strictly prohibited. I have a question. Do you believe the Wally guy was apart of this as well? He was in debug earlier killing people. Devs need to help me here on how to remove these when found. We have attempted to destroy a few vehicles before but upon server restart they respawn with broken parts. I do not want these hacked vehicles on our server. I banned a few of these guys after going through the logs, seemed there was a group of 4. All banned. Anyone that finds these vehicles or hacked weapons on the server please report them to me through our website. I will dispose of them or dispose of them yourself. I can see everything. I just don't always watch, I appreciate your help by reporting them. -

These are all the vehicles I have found, I still have everyone but the Motorbike :/ I had to park it up for my Bus and when I got back she was gone :( (In order of findings) Tractor: North West of Orlovets (On the west side of the "slingshot" looking plans) Cords: 119 077 Bus #1: I am pretty sure that I took this one from a player since everything was working but the engine (He had hit a tree, actually I saw him looking for the engine parts of the airfield pretty sure but I will state it anywho) NW Airfield cords: 043 050 Bus #2: She had just spawned in, completely not working and out of fuel, had to defend her off two players xD Though I had a group of 3 basically easy pickings with the factory near by! Chernogorsk Cords: 067 129 Motorcyle: While looking for a wheel for that bloody bus above ^^ (Had a dark yellow tyre right front and I accidently hit a barricade concrete thing because I was in a rush to pick up my mate) South West from Novy Sobor main road there is a lootable Industrial place, the bike was inside! Cords: 078 081 I got pictures of them I am pretty sure I will search my hard drive tomorrow, I know I didn't take a picture for the motorbike, but I also know I defiantly got a picture of the tractor spawn)
