So, I will just start of by saying I have only had the game for about two weeks and I love it as it is but i think a few things can be tweaked a little bit, now I know that it is only in alpha and the things I am going to say are not Bugs, My ideas draw towards more reality. this would be for REGULAR servers IMO. 1 - Vehicles that are found are not in need of repair to begin with, they may be locked thus needing you to break a window or obtain a lockpick to enter and (Hotwire) the car OR they may be unlocked and Empty or near empty on fuel, my reason for this is that how many cars in your city if a zombie outbreak were to take place would be just "Broken" - Now i can see people crying about this one but IMO this makes for a more reality driven gameplay experience . 2 - The ability for a player to play true "Lone Wolf" style gameplay, this game is fun both alone and with friends but there are limitations on how far a player can progress alone as in the blood effect, i know you can get blood back from food but i would like the option to use a blood bag on yourself rather than wait for a friend to log on or risk asking a survivor for help, now once again the very idea of a person giving another person a bag of blood to survive is not reality anyway so allowing someone to do this on their own is no big stretch. Now these are just my suggestions for a Regular server, Now these are not demands in order for me to keep playing, i love the game and will continue to play regardless, they are just my two cents, Please discuss and please dont just say "No way" if you want to shoot down my suggestions please give a valid reason. Cheers for reading my babble and i look forward to a good discussion.

@DEV: need clarifications. The h24 thing is just for the first time (now), so you have 24h to save your stuff or you'll loose it. But then the stuff off-map will be cleared "immediately" (or randomly) even if used once within 24h right? Otherwise i may just leave an alt account there and use it to move those vehicles once a day. -
Wreta, you cant possibly imagine what you will find! See, you will drive TANKS! Fly Apaches and A-10s. Or someone could pick you up at airfield with Blackhawk and carry you to Elektrozavodsk and on the way you'll be shot by Stinger and hell breaks loose and you are on a Black Hawk Down mission! But screw that - you'll be able to BUILD YOUR OWN MACHINEGUN NEST!!!11 EDIT: Oh and about the skins. We have Russian Army, US Army, US Marines, Takistan Army, British Forces, Private Military Company, Rebels, Militia, Chernorus Army and vehicles, weapons, aircraft that all of them are using. God, we even have FUCKING AIRCRAFT CARRIER. TBH I think people who bought Arma just for DayZ should be shot on sight.

To be honest, it would be nice to simply have another PVE aspect like that in general. You could have random CDF (military) vehicles (somewhat damaged jeep?) or choppers (you could only shoot them down, they may fight you?) move around and be a threat (enemy) or even something helpful (neutral/friendly) as loot or combat support. Heck, something that could serve as a more human assistance OR threat to the players other than zombies and other players themselves. In theory elements of the military may have survived, or should have, or some other nearby country could send in military to fight zombies and possibly survivors. Or add a karma / humanity system and sync it. Being evil? They attack you. Otherwise you could interact with them in some way, or they'd at least ignore you.

Realism my ass, the current map size is too small to hide any vehicles properly. By that I mean hiding them with a chance of them being where you left them after you come back from dinner. Hiding helicopters will be impossible. If it were realistic I could just fuel my shit to its full and fly far out of the infected area. Anyone who hasn't gotten vehicles legitimately (not just walk into one or not just spawn one *cough*) can't understand how big of a task it is to a) fix the vehicle b) hide it properly. I am aware of the fact that nothing can be hidden perfectly, I am not asking for that. But the current map size is too small to hide any vehicles. You have just ruined the core aspect of DayZ for me. Finding someone else's vehicle is supposed to happen on the road when they're driving, fuelling or fixing their car on the roadside. Not walk 20 minutes on the borders of the map and find them without doing pretty much any effort for it. 2-3 players can EASILY scavenge the most obvious hiding places for vehicles within an hour, just walk within a few hundred meters of each other starting from west going all the way up north and then going east. Any other forest is irrelevant as they're too heavy with traffic. Yes, I mad. Give us locks, something to hide the vehicles with or rafts.. Something to protect what we have scavenged for more than a day. Reading this topic proves my point, this update only helps noobs who have never even seen vehicles. Maybe leave the fucking coast and look for them in the already too obvious spots, that's what I've done and that's how I've gotten my vehicles (which were stolen by ESP hackers, thank you). My ass, if you have a toolbox and you're not a fucking mole you can easily detect all of these and scavenge the camp. Making the mod too noob friendly, that's what is happening. rocket always wanted to keep this as harsh for the beginners as possible, and now this? -
I wouldn't have a problem with it, but give the guards mediocre gear at best, so people don't farm them, and turn their AI difficulty to an extreme setting, and on a high place, so people just can't snipe them from 1 km away. Aswell for vehicles, have them be very very rare, but decent chance for some good/great loot, and I think it'd be a good addition.

So you are saying that off-map tents are the same as hacking? Its the same as the guy before with his zombie and pvp-removal BS. What harm is done by off-map tents and what harm is done by hacking? If you don't have any arguments don't just try to pull some BS. Using the correct term it would be exploiting. And off map tent cities are really bad because of people duping and then storing their 20 NVGs and 20GPS and 20 M4SDs and 20 DMRs and 20 L85A2 CWS there. And believe me. I have run over quite a lot of off map tents with vehicles and 4 out of 5 of them had simply impossible amounts of tents with impossible amounts of loot in them. And to remove off -map tents will keep people from duping? Really..? -

Wait... So you want the normal pumps to pump gas for you... Pumps that require electricity... Also, I hope you realize that vehicles, or atleast most, have a cargo capacity of their own? There's like three vehicles that (I think, not sure) that don't have cargo capacity, one of those not requiring fuel in the first place. So just get fueled at the container, then fill your jerry cans when your done, then drive off, simple.

Where did anybody say we should remove zombies and pvp? And if I die I still loose my gear. And what's the point of not having a save camp? You die, you lose your gear but then someone with a nice stash has some gear back faster, because he worked for it in advance. Basically you don't have any arguments against off-map camps in addition to your feelings what should be right and what not. And then you are pulling this zombie and pvp BS. Isn't this a sandbox game? Where everybody is free to do what they want to do. There is not one right way how this should be played. If some guys like to collect stuff, fine - if some guys like to fight in cherno/elektro, fine - if some guys want to survive with a knife, matches, a hatchet and a canteen, fine. What do you care how others play this game? I didn't refer to vehicles in my post. As they are only available in very small numbers atm it is perfectly fine if they get wiped. What good is a camp 5-10kms outside the map where noone will find it without vehicles? Do you always walk there and back for over 2 hours? No our camps are very close to the map edge. And why do you care about the good or bad of having a camp 5-10kms off map and walking there for 2 hours. Maybe some people just like to walk ingame idk and I don't really care, if a camp off-map even 20km makes them happy so let them have it. What harm are you talking form such camps? The operative word here is 'off-map'. Outside of the sandbox area. An exploit. A misuse of the engine. A cheat. The negative responses to this news are from the players who've likely been item-duping, building duped item/tent cities and needlessly hoarding more vehicles than they or their exploiting friends could possibly need. Every player wants to keep hold of their gear, sure, but the golden rule in this game is to not get too attached to what you're carrying. Expect to lose it. Respawn. Rinse. Repeat. This news means the out-of-bounds exploiters have to be strategic with their camp placement and take the risks with vehicles and gear that the rest of us have to. Now to the DC'ers, please! (probably the same guys tbh) -

I agree. Basically means if you screw up with a vehicle you still have a 90% chance of keeping said vehicle if you can be around the same spot when the server restarts. considering many people who have vehicles have them on their regular servers they are well aware of server restart times. this gives a unwarrented advantage to the previous vehicle owner. I mean he got his vehicle destroyed why should he have dibbs on getting it back ! don't overlook the fact the method above gives server admin+clans a way to retrieve every vehicle they ever loose considering they can restart when ever is convenient. while some won't because - it's cheap, many will and already do . I for one am hoping vehicles in Dayz will be an area given attention soon. I personally would love to see many more vehicles per server as they add an interesting dynamic to any situation. They draw a crowd typically and the only other way of drawing a crowd is the sound of gunshots :/ I aint interested in combat vehicles just more modes of transport to make things more dynamic. off map camp removal/prevention is long overdue. anyone trying to argue otherwise is simply buthurt at having to use camps within the boundary with a higher chance of getting compromised. it's out of bounds. your talking hours and days of walking to locate these camps, not to mention the glitchy way tents behave off map. (see invisble tents unless you scope in) making for invisible camps, Love the post further up by someone trying to justify putting the camps off map because the map is so small. -
Lots and lots of threads about putting a confirmation trigger on the Respawn button, which I support, but I'd like to expand on that a bit. Storage receptacles such as tents/vehicles, they hold a limited amount of each category of item (weapon/tool, backpack, everything else) in the game. My suggestion is to add a warning trigger when you're about to exceed the maximum amount for said item instead of trying to stuff something into a full tent/vehicle and having it get eaten by the game. While not a tremendous issue by any means, it's rather aggravating to have a pair of NVGs or an M9SD get eaten because you forgot to remove your extra compass from the tent/vehicle. On a side note, I only seem to have this issue with the weapon/tool category of items, the "everything else" category will just dump excess items on the ground surrounding the tent/vehicle. I'd even be okay with weapons/tools dumping on the ground surrounding the tent, just make stuff stop getting eaten by time and space because I made a minor mathematical error or was absent minded for a moment. TL;DR - Add warning triggers to tents/vehicles for overflow of items/weapons/tools/etc.

And Why should it be easy for others to find such camps? The game mechanics right now don't allow for real hidden camps. Tents can only be placed in certain spots and they are visible from very far away. Maybe just imagine off-map tents as underground stashes or something like that. And off-map camps can still be found, you are just too lazy to do it. -

I have a complain about the re-spawn of destroyed vehicles. Why do they restore at the same place they got blown up? It seems logical to make them spawn at a random spawn-point just like the off-map ones. -
I wont post a screen since even though its just tree's and hills. I personally can locate it by view and someone else might. 4atv's 2pickups. 2jeeps. 1mc. 1hatchback. 1lada. 1van. 1truck. about 15ish tents. All cars/vehicles filled with weps aswell as most tents

Of course not, never get attached to your gear. I just always wondered if one was better than the other. It still never hurts to increase your odds right. Edit: Also, I read that items in backpacks (in Vehicles) get deleted with every server restart. Maybe someone got confused?

I tried using the forum search feature but nothing came up regarding this. We should be able to flip ATVs. We all know Arma2's horrible ground vehicle physics makes it easy for the smallest of bumps to flip vehicles. From a realism standpoint an average male would have no problem flipping something as small as an ATV over. We should be able to do so. But only for the ATV. I doubt anyone could singlehandedly flip over a bus or car. This idea comes from the fact that I was playing a life today and found an ATV outside Cherno. I miraculously found the parts I needed inside Cherno (Fuel & a wheel) and after dodging sniper rounds managed to repair it and drive off. Half way to my destination I flip it over on literally nothing.

Somebody told me that the gear in Tents and vehicles will get reset when server reset happens. Is that true or false?
-
Hah, just kidding. I read a lot of threads with players complaining about everything, nighttime is too dark, guns are hard to find, keep getting killed etc. Well, before I first played I watched a fair few youtube videos, read these forums and the wikipedia and this game isn't anywhere near as hard as I've heard. Granted within the first hour I had to youtube how to bandage a wound in day z, but hey, I'm new to ArmA and Day z, now, one day later I consider myself to be quite adapted to this game. I've gone to the airfields, managed to grab a DMR for myself, killed two players with that, one because he was going to die from the zombie eating him alive anyway, and two because it was self defence. I don't plan on using the sniper to sit on a hill at elektro and kill unarmed players, whats the fun in that? may as well kill zombies. Anyway, I now have a tent in a hidden location filled with the weapons I've been collecting, winchesters, sidearms, cz550 and an M16. So weapons truely aren't hard too find. Heres a tip, find a town/few buildings with a building that has two exits, long barns are the best. Crouch run through this area, try grab what you need, if zombies attack, run through the barn, lose them, continue grabbing anything else. Move on and repeat elsewhere. Night time is mean't to be dark, however its still possible to see relatively well at times, if not, use your damn flashlight. I have died about four or five times so far, first time because of being trapped in a building by zombies hehe, next two times were from players (eh, shouldn't have been in elektro/Cherno) the next two times were because of broken legs/low blood, you have to accept you'll die, don't go crawling from town to town looking for morphine because your legs are broken, this is a game, mean't to be fun not a chore. die and try again. The only areas I'm struggling with atm are trying to fix vehicles, I found an ATV and all systems appear to be good to go, I refueled it but it doesn't move. Any ideas? Anyway, point of this thread was just to share my experience so far, and hopefully help some players that are struggling. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free!

The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!
[email protected] replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Originally i was really excited to play a game that was as close to possible to a real zombie apocalypse (ZA). However, I don't truly believe that a real Z.A. would have a high saturation of people killing other people on sight. It's not proper roleplaying if you just kill to just kill unless your roleplaying yourself as a murderer that just wants to kill as many people as possible before death (which is lame). I think the game is more of a long DM with zombies than a survival game. Maybe it seems to new players that DMing is the only way to go because that's what it mostly is and the beast feeds itself. Soon that will be all that it is... I will enjoy this game as a deathmatch if i have to.. I do love a good bloody killing spree deathmatch... but what i really want is a more realistic sim of a Z.A. I don't want it to be just a game I want it to be realistic as possible. When the zombies do finally come I doubt there will be snipers in every window shooting more humans than zombies "just for the lulz". they would be one in thousands; most people would work together to survive. The attempt at no rules for the game in effort for a greater level of realism has had the opposite effect. Unfortunately people (kids probably) can't handle playing this game maturely. Therefore we need to encourage survivor play or make bandit play less rewarding. Make all the bandits pink and glow in the dark :) Or at least make it so they can't appear kill you take all your shit and disappear to another server. In other words each server is a different persistent world where items don't transfer. I'm not saying that there aren't bandits who actually roleplay the bandit scenario. i.e. killing for loot or killing for food or killing to take vehicles, necessities etc. I am saying those "good" bandits are vastly outnumbered by shoot on sight types who kill just to kill like its a DM. Its the killing for no reason that i find unrealistic. I have not given up hope that this game can evolve into a more realistic simulation of a zombie apocalypse. That is what I wan't I can tell I am far from alone.
