How big is your group and what loot have you got?
Daddy'o replied to miragexl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cuz nowdays I seem to be the only one left of my squad who still likes spending time with DayZ, I'll roll back 2 weeks. 5 man team. 10+ tents 1.5km north of NEA. +20 automatic weapons, +20 blood bags and other medical supplies, NVGs, some rarer snipers like M107 and AS50 and a couple of machine guns. Food and water to last for weeks. 3 ATVs, 2 off-road pickup trucks, UAZ, Bus and a red civilian car. Nowdays? Just me, no vehicles, couple blood bags, 1 tent at an overlook position well hidden, a cold camp fire where no stories are shared. Just a lonely man in a ghillie, sitting in a bush close to his tent with an AS50 leaning on his shoulder and 2x .50 cals in the tent with a couple thermal guns to keep em company. It's cold, lonely and miserable. What happened to the good old day(s/z). Any possible company and feeling of social belonging is ended by a single bullet from my rifle, beckoned by the ever darkening icons of thirst and hunger. Who will save me from my fate? -
All vehicles saves are limited to the server you found them in. Simply "Save [the] Vehicle" and it will "most likely" be there when you return. Disembarking the vehicle itself automatically saves it, along with repairs/damage.

Yeah I can relate to this. At peak point we had 5 active people, 7 on a very few occasions (whole team online) and now it's just me with the occasional mate I started with popping in once a week. It's just that we've seen it all done it all. Learned how to survive - check Looted towns and cities - check Found military grade gear - check Traversed the map all around - check Looted the NWA a few times - check Messed around Stary a few times - check Died a few times and re-established ourselves -check Had a huge camp with 10+ tents and shitloads of gear - check Had 8 vehicles stored - check Were in fire fights, both from our initiation and others - check Got all our vehicles stolen or blown up -check Got our campsite raided -check Learned of the bitter taste of getting everything taken away - check Finally wound up to the point nothing mattered except trying to get giggles out of the game driving a bus at the coast and shooting people -check What's there left to do? Nothing. Now a few of those groupies are trying to get me DL some god awful RP mod for arma called citylife or something...

Base Defenses ( Document included )
ZombieGrin replied to ZombieGrin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you can land 50 cal sniper shots on the generator or turrets then you can destroy them. So placement of these pieces of equipment in blind spots and hidden from view is also a tactic that needs to be taken into consideration. I know the heli trouble, believe me. And I also found out that heli certainly doesn´t worth the trouble at all (you need skilled pilot, everyone wants to kill you and it runs out of fuel fast like hell). Gear worths the trouble. As I didn´t point out - heli can be great advantage (if those pilot, fuel and other problems are handled). It is superOP in hands of an asshole as well. The idea of turrets is not crazy, it just doesn´t fit well. There are NATO weapons and vehicles, because NATO did this kind of stuff to post-soviet countries (google post-soviet nations and check their armies. 7 of 15 has nato arms but soviet ground vehicles). But lets move on to the logical aspect of the turrets. It is logical you want to defend your property and I get it. But prototype korean turrets in post-war, post-soviet and economically devastated country, just don´t fit. Yeah, they might try them out there but... they would brought like 2-4 of them... chance that they would be still functional would be low. Really low. Every single idiot who has screwdriver and can-do attitude would try to make them work and... probably shortcircuit them. And the gameplay aspect might get disbalanced. Imagine some asshole putting this turret somewhere, where lot lf people travells, and deploying e turret is possible. Just to gain kills and beans. That´s right, if turrets would be added to game, you might end up hating your own idea. And exploits? Well... server hoppers will rape them. They grt the idea of turret, find it, serverhop to safe distance with 50 cal or dmr, pew-pew-pew, profit. I am not opposing you. I want you to see also the negatives, and to reconsider other barricade options. There are people who like your idea, and there are people who don´t like your idea. Best way to make them like your idea (and not force them into it) is to imagine their position. Why don´t they like it? Just to give you some thoughts - this game is kind of MMO simulation and the universe assumes, that everyone is asshole. And stoping assholes from ruining your fun is impossible task. You give here turrets and you end up killing lost survivors in the best case scenario, and t he worst case... you just make a huge "here is something interesting" sign in form of turret that emits sound and fires at horrible accuracy. So I still believe in guerrila warfare - traps, camouflage and ton of luck. Did you read my post about how turrets would function? You said that people would put them on the bean coast or high traffic areas for griefing which leads me to believe you havent actually read the post all the way through or if you did you missed some very key elements. Turrets need to be near a generator, generators need fuel ( which constantly drains as things are linked to the generator. The more items connected to the generator the faster it draings ) That being said turrets would have a fairly good range to counter the server hoppers if they are placed in decent locations. Putting one in the middle of the airfield obviously isnt a good spot. But putting one in a blind spot around a corner that is obscured from view from other angles is a perfect example of how they would be effective. I wrote my design document with negatives in mind which is why I have many, many counters to each idea I posted. A well thought out design document doesn't just point out one side of the story and that is why there are strengths, weaknesses and obvious holes that can be exploited in the base defenses. It would just take tactics and strategy. Walls do NOTHING. NOTHING. Let me say that again. NOTHING! Here is an experiment. Give me 1 tool box and I will give you 10000000 wire fence kits and tank traps. Without a gun and without help I will break through the defences given enough time. That is why there needs to be ways to KILL people who are attempting to breach your perimeter while you are not there to shoot them yourself. If you are suggestiong walls then you are not thinking about how easy it is to remove tank traps and wire fencing kits or how easy it is to just server hop. General Patton once said that "Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity." The reason he said this is because you can surround it, choke it's supplies and the men inside will fall because of it. This tactic is one of many that could be used to conquer a fortified location. Or how about staking out at the gas locations to prevent any fuel runs? The possibilities are endless. I have NO DOUBT in my mind what so ever that if the defenses I propose were added, that they would be a game changing advancement for those who take the game seriously and those who are casual or goof off gamers won't suffer any penalties because of them. -
Sniped a guy in a HIND
MaximumBullfrog replied to MaximumBullfrog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Eh, checked back a few times for more potential hacker kills but it seems to have resided. Mostly what I could see were about a half dozen Military Offroads (legal vehicles but that's an obscene amount to find neatly parked up in mint condition at an airfield) and the guy in he HIND. Three of the trucks were on the tarmac when I shot HINDey and the next three were there later on. The first time I checked back the HIND was still where I left it, but later on it was gone along with all the other trucks save for one, which was messed up down the runway a bit. Seems to have resided. Probably just legitimate players stumbling on the goods over time and taking off with them. -
SC0 60 Omega-6 Clan server Admin abuse
Legendary Fox replied to Bullherby's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hello there Bullherby. I was browsing the forums when I came across this report, I am the owner of OM6, which is the clan that owns and is based on SCO 60. Our server is very new, and is also very unstable. The server is currently shut down by my command as the server crashes every 5-20 minutes and throughout thus has major desync and lag. On Saturday morning, when this started I sent a ticket to the host explaining the issue, I havent had a response since. I am the only one who has access to the server console & commands and I have been away on holiday for the past week, so the only viable explanation is these frequent unforeseen crashes. I too have lost things due to these crashes, a rare heli crash, Many items & parts stored in our vehicles was deleted. Our chopper was crashed, killing the whole group aboard due to the desync. I hope the server gains stability and we can all play happily on our server again, as we are currently paying for downtime. -
First name: Nick Age: 25 TimeZone: Pacific Why you want to join: Solo is fun but not as fun as having a team, a team of people makes the game so much more enjoyable for me that is. Teamwork on a scale 1 to 10 as 10 being the highest: 10 teamwork is paramount when trying to complete the same objectives. Do you have Teamspeak: Yes Do you have Skype(Only put Yes or No): No How long have you played DayZ(Dont Lie) over a month now know Cheranus pretty well can get to any place on the map I need too. Used almost every gun in the game so far, drove vehicles been shot at by helicopters know how to survive and know how to stealth. Know how to use GPS also :)

Can server owners trace vehicles?
Superior replied to TheWeedMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've heard about server-admins tracing through the server logs for vehicles. Isn't it possible? -
By safely store I meant as safe as tents/vehicles are meant to be. Except tents don't seem to save at the moment and cars/buses/bikes are all hidden away up north.

Can server owners trace vehicles?
TheWeedMan replied to TheWeedMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We never hide the vehicles we get in the same location but we do hide them (which I though) extremely well. We never take the larger vehicles either as there obviously harder to hide....but the latest vehicle being the camo jeep was so well hidden it couldn't be seen from a whole 360 run around or from the hill above.....as I said even I had trouble trying to re-find it again. We each take turns at taking and hiding the vehicle so that the one that hid it is the only one that knows where....not that we dont trust each other, its just easier for 1 person to stay behind as the rest log off. Weird as fuck I tell ya ;) -
How to farm loot. A guide to collecting what you want. (Outdated)
thrasher (DayZ) replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Until tents/vehicles are fixed I'm going to use this into and stock up on NVGs and ghillies. I'm fucking sick of working all night raiding the airfields, stary, deerstands, and heli crashes just to find out all the gear we saved in the cars/tents vanished. Buying a second copy of the game to use as a mule lol. -
Can server owners trace vehicles?
ssg (DayZ) replied to TheWeedMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't hide all vehicles to same location. Put them all around map. So if somebody finds one vehicle then you won't lost all. Also ESP hacking isn't that common. We have never lost any vehicles due stealing and we have had almost 40 of them. I'm not sure if hacking is more problem in USA servers than European. -

Regarding of removing vehicles that are outside the map, does that means that little island far SE of chernarus is too outside the map? -
Hello i came here to pitch a new idea that we improve the destruction and a few other mechanics. I think first we need to make it so we can get RPGs easier and destroy every building it gets tiring rarely finding an RPG which i have only found once in cherno and the only use i could find for it was blowing up the supermarket and hospital. Second I think we need a building mechanic since we can do so in the editor it isn't a stretch to do so in game and make a small hideout in the wilderness where you can stash your hard earned loot since in the next patch vehicles will degrade overtime. third I think there needs to be faction that will let you join a group of fellow players and build a clan HQ promoting group game play and deterring Lone wolf game play. This Idea is to Improve The realism of the game and give an insight on how life would be like in a survivors situation it would also give the game more emotion. IMPORTANT This is a serious thread not a troll thread and anyone starting trouble will be reported.

Okay, before you think that this will require you to sleep while playing the game I assure you it won't. Base idea: My idea is simple, along with all the other meters add a energy meter, energy would be effected by sleeping. Leaving the server or shutting off your game will make your character "sleep" or it would simply increase energy. What energy does: Energy allows your character to remain fast and agile. The stages of energy will not greatly harm your character, they would be small things. The speed of actions would be slowed the more tired your character, as you reach the red zone of the energy meter your character would be more prone to getting sick, and scared. How energy works: Energy would simply be regained when you are offline. Additionally you can sleep ingame. Energy is lost while you move or do actions and it will decay progressively over time. Energy in-depth: Energy would also be effected by certain items such as soda, medical supplies (morphine), and vehicles. Soda would wake you up a bit due to the caffeine, medical supplies would/could make you drowsy and vehicles would stop the loss of energy due to movement. It's a simple idea that would add another element to the game, maybe a few new items could be added as well such as a sleeping bag, and maybe some old items could get more use like tents. If anyone thinks that I have grammar errors or strange wording... I stayed up until five 'o clock in the morning.

Just now I was happily running around DE111 at night, just a few other people on the server. I was running around the north border looking for camps and vehicles, mainly vehicles to drive around in. I was searching around, nice and snug in my ghilli, nice vision with my nvgs, and nice and silent with my m4a1 CCO SD. First of all I spotted a bus, a bit battered so I left it be. I ran about 10 meters in another direction and found a flatbed truck with 3 tents around it. I went about scooping up all the gear and putting it in the truck. There was something like: 1xDMR 3xM21 1xMP5SD 3xM1911 + loads of ammo and other stuff. I put it all in the truck. Jumped in, turned the engine on pressed forwards and instantly the truck veered into a tree and exploded. I apologise for blowing up all your gear and your truck. I only meant to steal it. I smugly took this picture moments before obliterating your camp... and myself.

Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
ironpython replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
meta-gaming and ghosting TEAMSPEAK SERVERS is allowed... ghosting servers (ie: moving into position for an iminent attack/ or to steal vehicles etc etc...) is considered exploiting game mechanics which IS PROHIBITED. as far as posting proof on the forums i dont get who you guys think you are lol. psyl3nt said it perfectly. they are following the rules of reporting and anyone not on the dev team has ANY right to demand proof. nor does the dev team NEED to update a thread publicly on actions taken regarding either side of this issue. -
Multiple. Your character iss persistent. So if log off of one, and join another you will have your stuff. Vehicles and placed tents are just on that server.

/push Some more information about us: We're both from germany. We're using: Skype, TS3 and Vent for communication. We're are looking for a Clan/Team/Group/Squad for DayZ to: Build or join a base/search/repair/store vehicles/ raid hot spots like Airfields, Stary etc. and ofc to have some good fun. I would appreciate any kind of reply thats related to the subject.
-
Peeps, you gotta start recording things you do. Especially when you know you're in a situation that could turn out like this such as approaching a site with a lot of vehicles or raiding a camp!
-
Will the vehicles you haven't hoarded reset anytime soon, DeadDogg? I could use a helicopter. Ok.... so you really killed me...... thats really a bit uncalled for. Thats really ridiculous. Childish even. Why kill me over a post??? It was SATIRE!
-
Green Mountain is pretty dangerous due to the vehicles that have spawned there. Pobeda Dam is also a water source for the people up north with fancy weapons and vehicles.
-
We're currently 3 guys who mostly roam the north trying our best to survive. We don't have a leader, we all have equal say in everything. Our goal is to setup a base along with vehicles and survive as long as possible. Every other player is kill on sight for us since we mostly stay in the north, there is no such thing as friendly up here whether you admit it or not. If we ever are near the coast we try our best to avoid killing unarmed players. We win some and we lose some so we're completely against disconnecting in a firefight unless we feel there's a hacker, we just move on. What we're looking for: PATIENCE! We have a ton of fun all the time but there are points when we do really boring stuff like farming dangerous areas such as Stary and NWAF for hours for rare gear. So we don't want someone who whines or keeps asking when we're leaving. If we're farming an area we want something to come out of it, not leave empty handed. A person at least 16 years old. One of us is 16 and other 2 are in our 20s but we're not looking for someone super mature. We're all clowns we tease each other and just talk shit all the time, however when shit is about to go down we go into super serious mode. Too lazy to finish so if you want more info add me on skype: dakidmi1
