well vehicles will auto fix on server restarts.. but yeah nothing can put the pieces of your friends back together

Hey guys, I already red about the idea of a welding torch for constructing and breaking down metal walls, but I have something different in mind here: I think we all know how scarce vehicles are or can be on some (or most) servers, for example when a specific group hoards all of those. I'm imagining a Welding Torch e.g as relatively rare industrial loot, which can be used to repair vehicle-wrecks found in the streets (of course only those of vehicles-types you would be able to drive in the first place, if they spawned). For balancing reasons this would need more resources, scrap metal and such, more time to "salvage" than it'd need to repair a spawned vehicle, thus making players more vulnerable and raising the necessity of organized groups/guards.

Cleaning up the damage? and vehicles? Like what? SHouldnt you just restart and accept the losses? -
HeLLo, I was thinking of a idea to being able to use those wrecks like those burnt out rides that you see in the towns I was hoping if it was possible to be able to repair those like if a player walks up one and clicks on repair vehicle they can repair it but the wreck should spawn in with a new wreck which they can finish up repairing with the rest of the car parts. Add in some more weapons if possible maybe a ACOG scope weapon at-least. Think most of the other guns you have seem pretty good and ain't none of them to powerful its just the right balance of power. I also have a idea for helping you guys detecting hackers. Maybe add in some sort of script that can run on a timer of some sort to keep checking the server for new vehicles that wasn't put in the mission itself and check for the closest player to that vehicle and log that down I wouldn't ban them as it could be a hacker that spawned a vehicle next to them and use it against innocent bystanders. Hopefully battleye improves their program to detect scripts being loaded that isn't part of the game. You could do the same for weapons and other items that wasn't added in the game as well but probably adding that will affect server performance as well. I know ArmA 2 doesn't give a whole lot of wiggle room to add in a-lot of stuff it would be tight to have a-lot of zombies like hoards of zombies lol chasing after you and doesn't affect the server's FPS and stuff.

Two Survivors, Two Times get the Jump, Friendly, Die.

That is just in the last 30 minutes. I hate do to it, but also gonna have to become shoot on sight, you can say no COD kiddies, no blah blah. The community though has become nothing but shoot on sight... It is not fun. At least for me. 1. You can say well the fun is not knowing if they are friendly or bandit, that argument has become bullshit. Everyone seems to have adopted this. 2. I don't suprise them I say Hi, on mic. They turn act friendly for 2 seconds, like oh ty for not shooting me. Then Bam dead. Between this become the far too common thing, along with so many hackers as of late. I don't care what bugs you fix, what changes you make to zombies, spawns, anything. The main problem with this kind of game comes down to community. I know some people are bandits, I have played a few bandit"" lives. This mod's own community + crap battleye+cheap/script detction is going to kill it before it gets started. Main Question::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea: As their are 100s of threads as above. Anyone got a link on how to set up a local server, or can tell me how, for DayZ like can you for reg ARMA 2? Would be quite enjoyable just to set up a camp/base and vehicles with friends Or know a good private database server? That is not filled with hackers or no/cd. -
So me and my 2 friends end up stealing 5 vehicles from another group. Not 5 min after we leave with a URAL full of gear and destroy the remaining vehicles does the server crash. We wait to re-log and eventually its up again. I log in next to all the vehicles fully intact, as they were right before we had destroyed them. And to top it off it was now night time. I was no longer driving the ural, which I was in upon disconnection.

Why not, during a server restart, cross-reference all permanent items on the map, against the map grid. If an item, like say, a vehicle, tent, or barbed wire, is found to be outside of the map parameters, then it is deleted. No more dragging vehicles off the map. No more tent cities 5K out from the map borders. Not to mention the people who DO drag their vehicles 5 minutes off the map will find themselves logging in with no vehicle and a very, very long walk in front of them.

Tents are useless- The game is too buggy and I've lost countless fortunes due to them either dissapearing or not saving loot correctly. It wasn't stolen from. Also, why would you need a Coyote pack when ALICE packs are 10x more common and hold almost as much? Either way, these two items are rarely even commodities. Crashed helicopter sites are random, and they do make people travel outside of those three places, but generally people just "loot run" it by taking everything, waiting 10 minutes, and revisiting it to get the entire spawn again, so you only really need to find one and camp it. After you do that for maybe 1-2 runs- you end up just going to cherno or electro again to kill players. The OP is right, Cherno, Electro, and the NW airfields are pretty much the most visited places by far. I don't even find myself going north to get weapons anymore- the fire stations in Electro and Cherno drop pretty good loot anyway- And I can rack up ~30-60 murders before dying. an interesting approach deciding an extra four slots allowing the versatility of another primary plus decent storage space isn't worth having. i personally will take it. I've also found a ton of good stuff in tents. sorry about your bad luck on that front. taking the approach that "its not worth it" when it clearly is doesn't really work for me. as for helicopter spawns. i don't give a shit how "random" they are. he was saying there's nothing to do. regardless of your hipster attitude towards it all these are all viable quests. But no one actively pursues deer stands-- Not when a fire station or the NW airfield can almost consistently produce better results. Crashed Helicopters are pretty common' date=' and you pretty much max out your character after one visit-- A bison and 6 mags (2 bizons, actually) and I went down into cherno and had a killing spree. Other than crashed helicopters, there is no reason to go to anywhere but these 3 or 4 places (If you count berezino, which is just another big city with less people.) Also, vehicles and tents are too inconsistent to safely store loot and items- It is better to just make a trip to a common helicopter crash site or the NW airfield than run up to a secluded tent and then back down. Most people don't "just survive"- Its just too easy and boring. [/quote'] if you had any balls, you would have had your killing spree up north where the kitted players are. you're the cause for your lack of excitement. i don't really waste my time hunting people that can't give me better gear. Don't scare him wrath. He's obviously a master of gaming, statistics, philosophy, and telepathy. Who knows how loot will change in the next few months. Let's all just have some fun. Wang Chung. Helicopter repair and ownership
CHOSENMARINE replied to CHOSENMARINE's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wasn't even aware that the helicopters (or all vehicles?) were removed. -
Me and my friends are veterans at the dayz mod and have acquired almost everything could possible want in terms of equipment and weapons. Soon we're going to try to find and repair a vehicle (preferably a helicopter). What experiences have you guys had with helicopters and other vehicles? Are they extremely difficult to get running and under control? Please share some of your experiences.

The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!

Here's a possible solution to reduce DMing on the servers: Maybe Bandit bullets should only work on a player that has better equipment than they do. So no more senseless killings by a fully fed bandit with more food and a better gun than their victim. Also the one they wrongly tried to kill would be able to go after them as they would have the lesser equipment (forcing bandits to think twice about killing for lulz). People would then only bandit in roleplaying appropriate situations. As it is with killing for vehicles make anyone killable within 50 feet of a vehicle or something. Perhaps each item would have a point value. I understand this solution is less realistic than a "real" Romeroesque zombie apoc (where everyone could do what they wanted). It is still more realistic than people playing dm within one. I'm not saying eliminate PvP altogether just the part of it that is unrealistic in a ZA. It IS unrealistic especially in a ZA to kill for no reason. Make a bunch of noise and attract possible zombies for a laugh? highly doubtful.. instead of common. -

US 241 turned into rabbits, and all people in vehicles killed

Just a few ideas myself and my friends have been talking about, first of all the ability to collect resources such as tnt, gunpowder, nails, dud arty rounds, tin cans and other assortments of things to make IEDs. Thoughts? The second idea is a sort of military clean up squad, say some soldiers kitted up in CBRN suits (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear), backed up by some sort of transport vehicle such as a UAZ or a Ural, (New way to get vehicles?) plus military grade equipment, but they are dangerous to take on and shoot on sight. thoughts?

What exactly are the map boundaries?
spankimus replied to spankimus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well I know that much... But where I'm at there's like forest surrounding what appears to be that crappy texture wasteland. I wanna know if that's actually the exact line where the map is considered to end, and where vehicles/tents will be wiped. -

Seeing as how rocket is going to add a logout timer (or some other fix)' date=' this won't be an issue. Obviously it's still broken, but you can't use an exploit that is slated to be fixed as a defense for your argument. So it's unrealistic for A to kill B and d/c, but it's realistic for B to respawn and take revenge on A? Again, d/c abuse will be fixed -- I don't know why you think you deserve to be able to hunt the guy down on your next life hours later. Obviously at some point people have to log off -- and when they come back they're not guaranteed to be on the same server. That's why most of the REAL fights are over tent cities and vehicles -- things tied to the actual server. You're trying to design the game around random scrubs who don't even know what they're doing yet. -
Ural has some weird items, help needed
Ander (DayZ) replied to deuk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just a notice: We regularily clean up non legit items. Players found on MULTIPLE times will raise flags in our systems and may risk getting their playerIDs made defunct in DayZs database. Players who stumble upon hacked items on off chance dont run risk of flagging. The ones at risk are those who repeatedly spawn items and are in possession of these items. I'd however recommend that those items in that ural is thrashed as those items will be removed in regular database cleanups. That ural "may" have been a legit vehicle but it's likely a spawned vehicle. If at next server restart it doesnt spawn back in at the location you left it at, then it wasnt a legit vehicle. The items in it is definately not the standard items and it's likely it's one of the hack spawned vehicles. -
Database cleanup [2012-07-03]
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
* Implemented a method to re-create vehicles that were missing entirely from some instances. (either caused by hive bugs or too heavy clean-up in object database, this affected less than 0.1% of available vehicles but would still need to have been done some time in the future). [2012-07-07] @poisonman: they are pretty rare, cant reveal exact spawn chance :) but I think there are some loot maps floating out there with guesstimates. @people asking about missing inventory from vehicles/tents: Known bug. Will be fixed with 1.7.2 or upcoming minor hotfixes after that release. Other notes: There seem to be an issue where weapons sometimes disappear out of backpack. Need more testing to fix. -

Obviously disconnecting is an easy way to get out of dangerous situations and keep all of the loot one has just yanked. even less consequence.. i just killed random dude now i am on different server he can't even get revenge if he tries... ultimate burn. feels so good to be a doosh for all those kids that get picked on at school. Yes i understand that anyone bandit or survivor can do that.. the current balsance encourages people to do this to try and balance it out. spend hours and hours only to be killed by some such person.. Anyways sorry about the rage.. Here's a possible solution to reduce DMing on the servers: Maybe Bandit bullets should only work on a player that has better equipment than they do.
