DrHellNo, Sorry about the lack of notice before restarts, i've been slaving over the BI wiki trying to find decent enough info on getting an rcon tool enabled and only last night i managed to get it working.. As Greg said, from now on we will be issuing a 2 minute warning before restarting. The only exception to this is when we clearly notice that the server hasn't restarted properly (vehicles and tents haven't spawned etc). In this situation the warning will be much shorter (more like 30 seconds) before restarting, this is just so we can get the game back on track as quickly as possible. cheers, Oli

DE10 - Server Thread <(^-^<) <(^-^)> (>^-^)>
Trowa replied to caspar's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Another server reset and another 2 missing vehicles, would reseting the server more regularly help prevent this? -
Heres my over all review of the mod, just FYI. I'm just offering my thoughts on the game for the Devs, take it or leave it. As for trolls, I know any post ever made is kibble for them... but oh well. HOW I STARTED: I played OFP years ago and loved the MFCTI mod. Had some really fantastic times on that. So, when I a friend told me of a persistent mod for Arma 2 (even though it's a zombie mod and I don't care much for zombies) I bought Arma 2 etc expressly for this mod. The first week, theres lots to learn about how the game works. Lots of trial and errors and deaths. HIGH INTEREST AT FIRST As I got better and gained better gear, it was cool. Often found that right after I gained better gear I died... which was really disappointing. And, I've found out that the game doesn't change much as you progress. The better guns still aggro zombies like mad which discourages me from firing a weapon at all... which is disappointing. Whats the point of a game with guns where firing it once gets you instantly swarmed so that you have to burn up all your ammo, spend 10 minutes killing zombies only to have them instantly respawn, knowing all the while 5 guys will be hearing your shots and closing in on you to finish you? Ido the same thing... it a free kill. Running from zombies is your (sadly) better option though that is tedious too. I've gotten pretty good at ditching them, but it often can take 10 or more minutes in some cases. Gets old. Zombies should shamble, not run a light speed. Saw them keeping up with a jeep before. Every zombie is evidently a bionic track star. As for stealth, it often results in getting sniped OR simply getting popped by some guy running by. I've been on both ends, just trying out all aspects of the game. The easiest guys to kill are the ones trying to sneak thru town... they are sitting ducks. I even tried the crossbow. Make the bolts stackable. That one per slot business is just... not even worth it. Sniping rules the game, as far as easiest way to kill people. I'll ditch whatever gun I have for sniper every time... whether you fight zombies or people - a sniper back in the hills covering your team or popping that random looter is so easy. I don't worry about any others like I do snipers. I've used them to great effect and know just how simple it is to take people out who never knew you were there. EXPLOITS REAL AND IMAGINED There are some real exploits and some things people complain about which I don't really fuss about. The logging of, relocating and then logging back in one is by far the worst. I'd suggest that there be an individual server (for lack of a better word) "temporary ban" that affects individuals for 5 or 10 minutes when they log out under fire. IMO thats the best option. The 5 min fall down timer is glitchy and pointless. I've had it hit me even tho I logged off hours before not under gunfire or anything. Sitting there watching a 5 minute hour glass while anyone can walk by and kill you... makes me fume at the Devs and want to uninstall. Instead, just prevent them from that one server for a temp time, this prevents the whole relocate issue and "punishes" people who log off in battle in order to relocate, without killing interest in the game over all. Also, logging in where players are already present is irritating. Two guys and myself were at green mountain the other day. Just checked the area and secured it. Only one way in and out after all... when I saw zombies vanish. Two of my guys go down suddenly inside the compound... then two german guys start talking about it on comms. Then the german guys logged off before I could sneak past the remaining zombies at the gate to get a shot off. Could there be some way to... well I hesitate to say relocate... maybe delay logging in if a player is within a certain distance? Whats the point of securing an area if people can materialize out of thin air behind you? Sneak if you can, fine. Be hidden and not seen, fine. But... it was pretty aggravating to all of us, but especially the two who got taken out in this way. But dunno what can be done about it. Those two people haven't played the game since tho... and my interst has lessened due to this and other events. Even my stint trying the server changing to find a target while I was hidden, resulted in boredom for me. Whats the point in doing that? Guess some people find it fun. Yes, I admit I tried it with a sniper to test how people did it... and it turned out to be incredibly easy to get player kills that way. Just camp an important spot... change servers till you see people... and then pop them. A 15 sec log off (as suggested elsewhere many times) where if you move the timer stops would help discourage hit and runs & lessen the constant flow of forum complaints about people logging off to avoid battle; but not prevent server jumping to find targets. I've played other games online for years. It just can't be avoided that people will log even WITH a timer, and realistically you can't forbid people from logging off whenever they want to unless you just want to lose regular players to the game because its normal for people to want to survive, get bored waiting for targets and change servers, etc. As for banning them for logging off even during a fight... eh. Thats very controlling. Never seen any game I've played (free to play or pay to play) that ever banned anyone for that; and it takes away from the voluntary & fun atmosphere of the game just as much as the log and relocate people do. If I miss my shot on a guy and he logs... I just tell myself to aim better next time and imagine "he ran off" - not like its actually hard to one shot people if you aim well. I don't rage that "he got away by logging". In fact, I missed a snipe the other day on a guy and I saw him vanish (log) right after... I just chuckled thinking he was probably filled with adrenaline at the moment and shouting in his house "I LIVED WHEW!!! THAT WAS CLOSE!!!" And I missed 2 shots (was a LONG distance shot lol) on a guy and he beat feet out of there. After 2 missed shots, I figured he deserved to live to tell the story. heh Doubt the Devs will be minded to change this, but... the only option I see to prevent server hopping is to make each server an independent world. You get gear on that server, it stays on that server. As it is, someone compared the current state of things to the Sliders series. Yet here, you can go back and forth with everything at will... and quite intentionally for the purpose of jumping people, getting past defenses, or... as the case often is: people block off whole areas, and the only way they access them is by logging off and relogging via another server. Defenses are one thing but normally there would be at least ONE entrance... but with server hopping that just doesn't seem to matter. ZOMBIES Most of them just need to be slowed down. They simply sprint too fast... endlessly. I'd suggest making most of them an average, shambling speed. This way when you enter a building, you better have an exit strategy / be quick or get trapped. They won;t be there instantly, so you have a short time (unlike the current way of them always getting there). And they don't all chase you across half the map of Chenarus. You can actually out run them. I like that some go really slow (crawlers) and you sometimes miss them as they are kind of sneaky. And then leave just a few faster... maybe the priest clothed ones. That way everyone dreads the priest ones because they are the quickest. I'd even say that the priest ones could take 2-3 shots to kill. Some variety in zombies, in other words, would be interesting and it would make those cathedral loot spawns more... intimidating since priests spawn there more. Respawn rate is too high. I was in a building killing more zombies at the door than were in the entire city as I passed thru. And saw the same from the outside once. Guy endlessly killing zombies in a building, and I saw them spawn over and over and over and run in. That occurs all too often. Slower zombies and even harder to kill zombies (some of them) would be fine. But super fast running and instant respawn... eh. A PERSISTENT MOD, WITH NO PERSISTENT VALUE As far as the mod specifically goes, it is different. And it held my interest highly for about two weeks. But, I've already started sensing disinterest. Not burn out really, though I have played it maniacally for this period of time. Just disinterest. Theres no lasting investment in the game to hold you when you die. No cache of goods, no gear you keep, no scoreboard even of past feats or records. There is *nothing* persistent really about this game. It certainly has some intense moments, but what I'm trying to say is there needs to be *some* aspect that is persistent beyond dying and losing everything (gear and score). I'd love to at least keep my backpack (an empty copy of it) once I restart. I mean, you need to feel like you've earned *something* out of that previous life. And a score board for your character would be a great step in the right direction. So. I've gone lives helping people (always ends in me being killed by people), and even went one life being a full blown bandit. Got 10 kills, but the last attempt turned fatal for me. I attacked a squad of guys - I took out 4 pretty quickly but a 5th guy popped me. Not bad imo. Yet, theres no record of it for me to see or to show anyone... So when you start over... with nothing... theres no attachment/investment in the game. I've already seen several people I know who play, die and stop playing at that moment. When you lose even your score, theres nothing to hold on to. Nothing to look at and say "I did that, see!" I know there will be plenty who can only shout praises for the game. Thats fine. Some will love it. I'm just giving my perspective on how you can add to the mod's durability and longevity, without changing it significantly (well, except the independent server suggestion, thats a pretty significant change). NEED MORE VEHICLES I've run so much in this game, and rarely ever gain access to vehicles. Yes, I know where spawn points are. But my point is they are not available enough. Thats half the fun of the Arma environment. More vehicles would be enjoyable. They are so rare, I don't even worry about seeing one when I run down the road. When I first started I wondered if running down the road was a bad idea... someone might drive by and all... But it never has happened yet. Had to go to the single player mode just to play with a bike... heh. I may add more later. But, been at this for a while. Hope the Devs consider my points. Its definitely a lot of work to accomplish what you have; I just think you need to not forget that without some record or something carried over from life to life - a lot of people will find it easy to stop playing after that 50th or 100th new life with nothing... not even a kudo for killing 2k zombies.

So now we finally got that ridiculous out-of-bounds stashing out of the way. Now vehicles will finally be around the map. However as we all know, no matter which server and which corner or forest you hide stuff, people will walk close to there on a pretty much daily basis. A parked white off-road truck, or a red civilian car and the like stand out screaming in the forest, people can see these from 2 miles away even when tucked behind trees. I propose now addition of camo-nets that are used in real life situations as well. Something that blends with the surrounding forest and does much to hide the original color of the vehicle. Thoughts?

Where do people make there camp?
Patient Zero replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well vehicles can still be kept of map but they have to be used / saved every 24 hours or they get respawned back on the main map. Tents / camps though are wiped without notice now if it's of the map. So some vehicles will still be of map but it's a huge step to fixing the exploit. I don't think the massive of map parking lots will be a feature any more, and you and your mate should have more luck now finding vehicles. A bunch of buddies and I (4 total, including me) were in cherno yesterday evening just hanging around trying to kill some scrubs in the town when all of a sudden a bus with 8 people roles in, beeping the horn with no care in the world. As soon as we saw this we were so excited. We've been looking for vehicles for 3 days now of non stop playing other than to sleep. Finally it landed right in our lap. As it rolled in close to us we unloaded on it and destroyed a tire, screwed up the engine, etc. Killed the driver and another player in the process and the other 6 players got out of the bus and booked it. We picked off a couple more as they tried to get positions to outflank us. One ended up getting into a building across from and took out 2 of my friends and knocked down the third. I ended up bandaging up my knocked down friend, giving him an epi pen and a blood transfusion, then i shot the guy across from me because he missed his shot (big mistake). The other players we killed got a spawn near cherno and we killed a couple of them running for the bus again, but then my friend DCed due to internet issues. Horrible timing as 2 other players climb up the ladder to the roof i was on and killed me, but i ended up killing them both at the same time i died. My friend logged in shortly afterward (after fixing his internet) and ran to the bus, repaired it with a wheel and drove off into the sunset. Anyway, I want to thank those who we fought against. It was some of the most fun we've had in Day Z and thank you for the bus as well. It is now hidden and we love taking it for joy rides around Chenarus :)

Glorious! Thanks for letting me know. Gonna have to search for vehicles with my mate now :D

Hey, I recently found your server and it's amazing. I can only recommend it to everyone else. It's very stable, no lag and has vehicles! Hope to see you in game sometime Naduct! Maybe we could do something together someday =) Regards, Extremo.

It was fun killing you guys and getting our vehicles back. Have fun searching again. -Chronic- I'm on day 22 and over 100 hours on this character. I LOVE THIS GAME! Oh and someone is definitely hacking on us23 to find vehicles. It may not be you HSZ guys. We have no idea who it is but we will find out sooner or later. Tomorrow we're going on a hunt! US23 players beware! Chronic and his crew are rolling through!

Where do the groups of people make there camps with cars vehicles tents and so on? I'm kind of bored with finding the loot and killing players. And i think i found my calling in this game. I must find people's camps and just destroy all the vehicles and throw away all there loot there etc. So i ask u - where are the most popular places for people's camps? Thx.

changrey replied to twoinches's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
wufnu, did you have a point in there somewhere? Of course he is a lone wolf, but most lone wolves would not tear apart the entire camp just for the giggles, they'd take what they could and keep the rest for a later raid. Having your camp raided is entirely reasonable, I never said anything else. But he needs to be honest with why he does it instead of making up reasons. The OP assumes that he is taking away power from item-hoarders and large groups, but he cannot in any way confirm that. It could just as easily be a small family that players together and needs multiple vehicles to transports everyone when they go out for food (yes, this is a fairly silly example, but my point stands). Getting sniped or otherwise killed by random bandits is part of the game, destroying camps likewise. But coming up with some vague justification based entirely on preconceptions for it, rather than just admitting he's a douchbag is just pathetic to me. -
7+ Hueys on US 46, multiple ammo boxes scattered throughout the map
TheProphecy posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
So I was running along the map not too long after I spawned in when I noticed a heli out of the corner of my eye SW of Stary. I thought it was crashed at first, but when I found a clear view to my amazement it was a working Huey. It only needed engine parts to use, which my group had. We put the parts in and started flying around. Within a couple minutes we heard another Huey. After a pretty short air battle, we destroyed it. Right near where the destroyed helicopter fell was another Huey that was blown up. Flying around in the helicopter we came upon another group of two helicopters in the woods, beat up. Strangely, next to these helicopters and scattered around the open field near the woods were a bunch of ammo boxes (medium), all empty. We flew around the helicopter some more, came upon at least two more Huey's. We decided we were done with the helicopter and we were going to park it near our camp and destroy it. That's when we heard another chopper. After a lengthy air battle, we ran out of bullets, which ultimately led to our demise. The server admin came on chat and said the server would be restarted right after this happened. We logged back in and a vehicle from our camp disappeared. Not only that, one of our group members heard the helicopter again in Gorka. Now, I can't confirm this 100%, but I believe the people responsible are in the clan [brothers]. The first chopper we shot out of the sky was being flown by them, and the chopper that shot us down later was being flown by them as well, not to mention they had ghillie suits and nice gear. We also had a firefight with one of them as we were driving in one of our vehicles and he had a ghillie. He killed one of our guys and we killed him but he alt F4ed out so we couldn't see his loot. Their names are Bes, Viper and GGGamerProRus. I believe there are others but they aren't in-game right now. They are still prowling around in a Huey as I'm typing this. Message to anyone who has a camp on US 46; Get to it ASAP and move your shit. EDIT - Almost forgot, each of the helicopters we inspected (4 of the 7 I believe) had 15 AKM mags and 5 normal AK mags inside of them, which clearly indicated some form of hacking if the number of choppers and ammo boxes weren't enough. Also, as a final thought, we've been playing on this server the last 5 or so nights. This was the first time we save this [brothers] group, and then crazy shit goes down. Might just be a coincidence, might be something more. Don't know. I just hope I log back in later with an intact camp, but something tells me it'll be gone. -
My group has about 5 or so vehicles but we actually use them all depending on how many seats + storage we need. I decided to remove my picture since I didn't want to give any clues away about where we have established our camp. :) -Sturmen

A Radical PVP Game Change? Take Sniper Rifles Out.
Ballistixz replied to justwrath's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
this and also remove the "farming" factor from this game. its ruining it. wipe EVERYTHING clean and fix/randomize loot locations so that ppl do not farm places like the NW airfields and hoard them in there tents/vehicles. its beyond stupid. or better yet, get rid of the item storage entirely. this way ppl really will have fear of losing there gear even if there in clans. the point of the game is to survive and when u die u die. not "lol i died, time to go back to my atv in the forest and regear myself instantly. better go farm NW airfield first tho to restock my ATV just incase i die again" -
its called a map hax i reported a guy for using one everything shows up on his map vehicles, people weapons, everything.

I don't really have one server, i usualy search a new server everytime i get into the game with the six launcher^^ But as soon as i'll get some vehicles and a tent i'll choose one server ;)

Tents still duping/losing items 1.7.1.5
[email protected] replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Lost 2 vehicles and a tent, fully stocked with m107, m4, omg, so many guns, and so much ammo. blah, second time this has happend to my clan. boo. but i understand this is a tough logistical problem and we are still in alpha yes? plz fix, there really is only so much we can take before we say screw it, nothing we do matters in this game. -
I know this is going to make some people angry and say things like "you are a bad man!" and I agree. But I have found great joy in riding my bike on the edges of the map and in the forests searching for tent camps, and vehicle camps. when I find camps I search them for supplies, then whatever I do not need I leave in the tents. I then nudge the tent very gently with the bike and Poof, it flattens. you loose everything. if you have vehicles I usually shoot out the tires and possibly the engines with guns from your tent before destroying them. I like to think I'm re-balancing the servers just a bit. people server hoping, storing all there high end gear its all reset into video game ether and I move along to the next camp. since im riding mostly along the edge of the tree line west and north, sometimes east. I get around very fast, and this has given me more joy then just sitting at electro and cherno sniping people.

I've had hacker problems recently and a extremely large scripts file(500mb) Was wondering what kinds of codes I should be looking for that spawns in those ammo crates and vehicles, etc.
-
It can't shoot through concrete walls, but you can hit through deerstands and the side of vehicles occasionally. Also, if you see someone glitch parts of his body through a wall you can take him out too in one shot.
-
sooooooooo i just found a huey behind the supermarket in pusto. its almost fully gassed and has ammo in the guns. the hull and rotor are red as hell. we had hackers on our server last night who were nuking the coast with fighter jets and attack helis. our admin restarted the server and all those vehicles despawned... can this thing be legit??? the other day they said vehicles parked off the map were going to be cleaned up and spawn back in the map, maybe this is a real spawn? can anyone tell me? im currently camping this heli while my friends look for a rotor lol.

Helicopters on new servers?
[email protected] replied to Deadmou5's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Above poster clearly does not understand the amazing benefits that come with owning a chopper, nor the mechanics behind server crashes, nor the fact that server desync due to vehicles has been almost eliminated.
