    Bank

Thinking of starting a bank. Players would meet up with a bank employee and deposit something. In return for storing that item the player would pay the employee. Then the employee would log off and go to the bank server. There would be a central place where employees came and dropped off the item. High ranking employees would then take the item to the storage area where they would store the item until it is withdrawed. Only high ranking trusted employees would know the location of the storage area. The other employees would have to work their way up to be given the location. Also the bank would only take high value stuff, mainly guns and vehicles. If anyone is interested reply and mayby we can do this.
  2. Anyone who stumbles upon your vehicles will be a happy camper... Or should I say would have been. We always kept our tents and vehicles at seperate locations so that if they found our camp they wouldn't have an easy way to take everything, or if they found our vehicles they wound find our stuff. You're kind enough to already have everything in the vehicle for anyone who finds it :D
  3. Honestly, server-side location and gear would fix two of the main issues with the game: server hopping for loot, and using other servers to effectively teleport to a more advantageous position. We don't need a city with no zeds as much as we need zeds to not continuously respawn. If I clear a city, zeds shouldn't spawn for a while. What would be really cool, would be if there were generators in buildings known to be valuable, that require fuel to operate. When you put fuel in them, quality loot begins to spawn in, but zombies also continuously spawn in (think left for dead finales). This would be too difficult Suddenly, people have a reason to actually kill zombies en masse, and a reason to not just server hop for loot. Make some new items that only spawn through this method, or simply remove high-end items that currently spawn normally, or both. People will have a reason to do something that would require a moderately armed group to invest time, or a heavily armed group to allow efficient resource collection. If you could get great gear only by grouping up (or by killing people who had) more people would do it. The ability to clear a city by killing 30-50 zeds would be a reasonable goal for fresh spawns if they worked together in groups of 2-6, and would give time to really comb through the loot effectively. Initiating finales by powering a generator would give well-equipped groups the ability to get large amounts or high quality gear, but be too difficult for people solo. Suddenly, two different tiers of people have a reason to work together. This game needs more goals that require a group effort, especially for fresher spawns. Zombies also need to be less of an irritation (and their ability to break legs makes them extremely irritating) and more of an actual challenge (as currently you can simply run away with no risk). Not having server-side positions and loot is also a problem, and would make people server hop less, which allows players to get to know each other. Trust could actually be built. You throw a lot of pretty phrases around, but most of this post is either short-sighted or meaningless. This game needs to be improved relentlessly, which is what rocket is doing. It absolutely nails the harshness, the chaos, and the destruction that occurs in an apocalypse. What it is currently lacking is the ability to create anything. You can't create trust because there is no static community. You can't tell friend from foe because there is little to no character customization. You can repair vehicles, but you can't build a base or anything worth defending. Yet. I believe rocket is working hard on fixing things and making this game deeper. We have the tools to break and maim, and can fix some things, but many people want to do the far harder task of creating.
  4. We(6 people) have/had: 1x Old Hatchback 1x Red UAZ 1x V3S Truck 3x ATV 1x Dirtbike 5x AKM with 30 mags(our cookie cutter weapon, if someone dies without being able to retrieve his gear he just grabs an AKM and a couple of mags, good to go) 1x M249 SAW with 5 belts 2x M14 Aimpoint with 20 mags 2x M4A3 CCO with over 40 mags 1x CZ550 with 5 mags 3x AKS74 Kobra with 30 mags 1x MP5A3 with 5 mags Now the problem is we had most of the weapons stored in the Hatchback and UAZ After yesterdays server restart our vehicles refused to spawn Todays server restart respawned the vehicles.....with both the UAZ and Hatchback being EMPTY So basically we lost all the expensive weapons that nobody used anyway....but we managed to keep our vital supplies and spare parts....and I still have my beloved M14 Aimpoint
  5. That save function saved the inventory of the vehicle in case the server crashes. Not the vehicle/location. And yes, vehicles are bound to their server, so you have to hide it somewhere and join the same server the next time you want to play.
  6. Cuz nowdays I seem to be the only one left of my squad who still likes spending time with DayZ, I'll roll back 2 weeks. 5 man team. 10+ tents 1.5km north of NEA. +20 automatic weapons, +20 blood bags and other medical supplies, NVGs, some rarer snipers like M107 and AS50 and a couple of machine guns. Food and water to last for weeks. 3 ATVs, 2 off-road pickup trucks, UAZ, Bus and a red civilian car. Nowdays? Just me, no vehicles, couple blood bags, 1 tent at an overlook position well hidden, a cold camp fire where no stories are shared. Just a lonely man in a ghillie, sitting in a bush close to his tent with an AS50 leaning on his shoulder and 2x .50 cals in the tent with a couple thermal guns to keep em company. It's cold, lonely and miserable. What happened to the good old day(s/z). Any possible company and feeling of social belonging is ended by a single bullet from my rifle, beckoned by the ever darkening icons of thirst and hunger. Who will save me from my fate?

    Better Vehicle-spawnrates!

I don't want the game to feature vehicles at every point of the map, but hell... it's impossible to find any! I was in a group with 3 people, scattered all over Chernarus. We had a map with all vehicle spawnpoints and were going all over the island for several hours, specifically searching for them, right after the server restart. How come that we do not find ANYTHING. Not a single bicycle! Why are there 20 cities and not a single functioning vehicle? It's annoying and unrealistic.
  8. I am absolutely what you would call a hard core gamer. Been doing it since I was able to hold a controller in my hand back when the Atari was around (but not during it's release - I'm not that damn old). I was born in 1982 just so you don't get any bright ideas and start calling me old. I'm only 29. Anyway, so after somewhat avoiding Arma 2 for a long time I played Arma 2 Free for a while then picked up the game about 3 weeks ago specifically for DayZ. From the stand-point of a semi-newcomer who learned about the game from a friend then learned more through YouTube videos and having spoken to people in the clan and others, I think I speak for damn near all of the player base in the following points:  Observations: - Bandit skin: no legitimate excuse to remove. So I must ask whether or not this will return and why it was disabled in the first place. A massive percentage of people purchased this game (one of many reasons) because of the bandit skin. Regardless of what reason some person comes up with (and will) in this thread: the reason will not be good enough. - Helicopters: Alright, so I understand the lag issue. God knows, I know how bad the engine is for dozens of reasons: netcode, AI, passengers in vehicles, performance optimization (lack of), etc. But at the same time I have to ask myself: How is DayZ any different than vanilla Arma 2 where people fly dozens of aircraft at the same time on servers. How does one helicopter effect anything? Not that I don't believe you: I just want to know the TRUE technical answer. Not sure I can see how a modification of A2 suddenly has issues with helicopters. - Removal of side chat on most servers: absolutely no legitimate reason. Bandwidth: text does not effect bandwidth or increase lag. I might understand that excuse back when I was on a 2400BPS modem. God knows text loaded slow as dirt back then on BBS's. So what IS the legitimate reason (not that there is one)? People want it. I can't imagine one person that doesn't. How many games have had the same exact thing (including Arma 2) for years or even decades now. Features that can like be turned on and NEED to be: - Death messages: Who died and who killed that person. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to find out who a hacker is and is beneficial in a dozen other ways. I can't even imagine why this isn't on. While I'm at it, not sure what is up with the chopper crash sites lately. Normally you can spend an hour and find five of these on one server. I've spent the past 2 days and found maybe 2 on about 30 servers. Seems like something weird is going on? Thoughts? :-/  Conclusion: You have to admit, reason upon reason people purchased this game, for the features like those above, have been disabled. I understand disabling Helis. Doesn't bother me. But please do tell the reason that bandit skins and side chat has been messed with. Not that I'm complaining, but I am making an observation here as I've been thinking to myself what the deal is with so many features being turned off that should be on.

    Saving vehicles???

All vehicles saves are limited to the server you found them in. Simply "Save [the] Vehicle" and it will "most likely" be there when you return. Disembarking the vehicle itself automatically saves it, along with repairs/damage.

    Saving vehicles???

How do I save a vehicle?I see the option to save via mouse wheel but then what?do I have to join the same server to ensure I am woth my vehicle?

    Lasting Appeal?

Yeah I can relate to this. At peak point we had 5 active people, 7 on a very few occasions (whole team online) and now it's just me with the occasional mate I started with popping in once a week. It's just that we've seen it all done it all. Learned how to survive - check Looted towns and cities - check Found military grade gear - check Traversed the map all around - check Looted the NWA a few times - check Messed around Stary a few times - check Died a few times and re-established ourselves -check Had a huge camp with 10+ tents and shitloads of gear - check Had 8 vehicles stored - check Were in fire fights, both from our initiation and others - check Got all our vehicles stolen or blown up -check Got our campsite raided -check Learned of the bitter taste of getting everything taken away - check Finally wound up to the point nothing mattered except trying to get giggles out of the game driving a bus at the coast and shooting people -check What's there left to do? Nothing. Now a few of those groupies are trying to get me DL some god awful RP mod for arma called citylife or something...

Base Defenses ( Document included )

If you can land 50 cal sniper shots on the generator or turrets then you can destroy them. So placement of these pieces of equipment in blind spots and hidden from view is also a tactic that needs to be taken into consideration. I know the heli trouble, believe me. And I also found out that heli certainly doesn´t worth the trouble at all (you need skilled pilot, everyone wants to kill you and it runs out of fuel fast like hell). Gear worths the trouble. As I didn´t point out - heli can be great advantage (if those pilot, fuel and other problems are handled). It is superOP in hands of an asshole as well. The idea of turrets is not crazy, it just doesn´t fit well. There are NATO weapons and vehicles, because NATO did this kind of stuff to post-soviet countries (google post-soviet nations and check their armies. 7 of 15 has nato arms but soviet ground vehicles). But lets move on to the logical aspect of the turrets. It is logical you want to defend your property and I get it. But prototype korean turrets in post-war, post-soviet and economically devastated country, just don´t fit. Yeah, they might try them out there but... they would brought like 2-4 of them... chance that they would be still functional would be low. Really low. Every single idiot who has screwdriver and can-do attitude would try to make them work and... probably shortcircuit them. And the gameplay aspect might get disbalanced. Imagine some asshole putting this turret somewhere, where lot lf people travells, and deploying e turret is possible. Just to gain kills and beans. That´s right, if turrets would be added to game, you might end up hating your own idea. And exploits? Well... server hoppers will rape them. They grt the idea of turret, find it, serverhop to safe distance with 50 cal or dmr, pew-pew-pew, profit. I am not opposing you. I want you to see also the negatives, and to reconsider other barricade options. There are people who like your idea, and there are people who don´t like your idea. Best way to make them like your idea (and not force them into it) is to imagine their position. Why don´t they like it? Just to give you some thoughts - this game is kind of MMO simulation and the universe assumes, that everyone is asshole. And stoping assholes from ruining your fun is impossible task. You give here turrets and you end up killing lost survivors in the best case scenario, and t he worst case... you just make a huge "here is something interesting" sign in form of turret that emits sound and fires at horrible accuracy. So I still believe in guerrila warfare - traps, camouflage and ton of luck. Did you read my post about how turrets would function? You said that people would put them on the bean coast or high traffic areas for griefing which leads me to believe you havent actually read the post all the way through or if you did you missed some very key elements. Turrets need to be near a generator, generators need fuel ( which constantly drains as things are linked to the generator. The more items connected to the generator the faster it draings ) That being said turrets would have a fairly good range to counter the server hoppers if they are placed in decent locations. Putting one in the middle of the airfield obviously isnt a good spot. But putting one in a blind spot around a corner that is obscured from view from other angles is a perfect example of how they would be effective. I wrote my design document with negatives in mind which is why I have many, many counters to each idea I posted. A well thought out design document doesn't just point out one side of the story and that is why there are strengths, weaknesses and obvious holes that can be exploited in the base defenses. It would just take tactics and strategy. Walls do NOTHING. NOTHING. Let me say that again. NOTHING! Here is an experiment. Give me 1 tool box and I will give you 10000000 wire fence kits and tank traps. Without a gun and without help I will break through the defences given enough time. That is why there needs to be ways to KILL people who are attempting to breach your perimeter while you are not there to shoot them yourself. If you are suggestiong walls then you are not thinking about how easy it is to remove tank traps and wire fencing kits or how easy it is to just server hop. General Patton once said that "Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity." The reason he said this is because you can surround it, choke it's supplies and the men inside will fall because of it. This tactic is one of many that could be used to conquer a fortified location. Or how about staking out at the gas locations to prevent any fuel runs? The possibilities are endless. I have NO DOUBT in my mind what so ever that if the defenses I propose were added, that they would be a game changing advancement for those who take the game seriously and those who are casual or goof off gamers won't suffer any penalties because of them.

Sniped a guy in a HIND

Eh, checked back a few times for more potential hacker kills but it seems to have resided. Mostly what I could see were about a half dozen Military Offroads (legal vehicles but that's an obscene amount to find neatly parked up in mint condition at an airfield) and the guy in he HIND. Three of the trucks were on the tarmac when I shot HINDey and the next three were there later on. The first time I checked back the HIND was still where I left it, but later on it was gone along with all the other trucks save for one, which was messed up down the runway a bit. Seems to have resided. Probably just legitimate players stumbling on the goods over time and taking off with them.

    SC0 60 Omega-6 Clan server Admin abuse

Hello there Bullherby. I was browsing the forums when I came across this report, I am the owner of OM6, which is the clan that owns and is based on SCO 60. Our server is very new, and is also very unstable. The server is currently shut down by my command as the server crashes every 5-20 minutes and throughout thus has major desync and lag. On Saturday morning, when this started I sent a ticket to the host explaining the issue, I havent had a response since. I am the only one who has access to the server console & commands and I have been away on holiday for the past week, so the only viable explanation is these frequent unforeseen crashes. I too have lost things due to these crashes, a rare heli crash, Many items & parts stored in our vehicles was deleted. Our chopper was crashed, killing the whole group aboard due to the desync. I hope the server gains stability and we can all play happily on our server again, as we are currently paying for downtime.

    Can server owners trace vehicles?

I've heard about server-admins tracing through the server logs for vehicles. Isn't it possible?
  17. The_Monk

    My solution to PVP.

By safely store I meant as safe as tents/vehicles are meant to be. Except tents don't seem to save at the moment and cars/buses/bikes are all hidden away up north.
  18. TheWeedMan

    Can server owners trace vehicles?

We never hide the vehicles we get in the same location but we do hide them (which I though) extremely well. We never take the larger vehicles either as there obviously harder to hide....but the latest vehicle being the camo jeep was so well hidden it couldn't be seen from a whole 360 run around or from the hill above.....as I said even I had trouble trying to re-find it again. We each take turns at taking and hiding the vehicle so that the one that hid it is the only one that knows where....not that we dont trust each other, its just easier for 1 person to stay behind as the rest log off. Weird as fuck I tell ya ;)
  19. Until tents/vehicles are fixed I'm going to use this into and stock up on NVGs and ghillies. I'm fucking sick of working all night raiding the airfields, stary, deerstands, and heli crashes just to find out all the gear we saved in the cars/tents vanished. Buying a second copy of the game to use as a mule lol.
  20. ssg (DayZ)

    Can server owners trace vehicles?

Don't hide all vehicles to same location. Put them all around map. So if somebody finds one vehicle then you won't lost all. Also ESP hacking isn't that common. We have never lost any vehicles due stealing and we have had almost 40 of them. I'm not sure if hacking is more problem in USA servers than European.

    Database cleanup [2012-07-03]

Regarding of removing vehicles that are outside the map, does that means that little island far SE of chernarus is too outside the map?
  22. Ok so far I've been playing Dayz for a few months and my latest survival run is a personal best of 8 days. Ive been playing the same server for over a month now and starting to become strangely curious as to how my packed out vehicles are being found so easily in such short time even though they are placed in near impossible to find places. Now dont jump down my neck here and try hitting me with the old "hide them better" bullshit. Its only 1 vehicle at a time and my group dont hoard or use tents, we have 1 and 1 only at a time but we do pack it to shit. We've each took turns and hidden several vehicles now on this server (no names mentioned) the latest being that well hidden even I lost it for a while and I knew its exact co-ords however, in a very short space of time it had been found and taken. Yes it was saved....before anyone asks! But this seems to be a very regular occurrence. Is it possible clan guys are using logs to trace and recover?
  23. Okay, so I have a few suggestions for how to improve Day Z which is obviously all my opinion but hopefully some of these idea's will gain support. [Rare Items] So, in my opinion the mod in it's current state is abundant with everything people need to survive. I've already told the story of how I gave myself a challenge dropping everything at my new spawn and coming across a Czech backpack, a hatchet and revolver and filling my bag with medical supplies within 10 minutes being the least stealthy I could be but still getting past zombies with ease. I think I ended up with 13 zombie kills throughout that time before ending up near the North West Airfield to help my friend with morphine. [Weaponry] So my proposal here is to severely reduce the amount of weapons found in the game, and I mean drastically. This would have to be done on a large update when everything is wiped so those playing beforehand don't get a huge advantage but essentially running across a Makarov would have the same chance of spawning as the current highest tier military gear and from there on the chances of better equipment getting even less likely. Through this I think that less groups would be equipped like a small army and having one player equipped with a pistol would be a huge threat in a group of five or ten people. This meaning more chances for bandits to catch prey unaware and a chance for survivors to have a decent chance against a group. [Tools] I think tools should have less chance to spawn, at the moment there are far too many hatchets and hunting knives lying around, matches and tool boxes have a decent spawn rate in my opinion... And I think this is where we should have a more realistic setting, I dislike posts about gaining "skills" but I think a class system would work with people only being able to carry a certain amount of tools. This would mean they can obviously pick them up and swap between them in their packs, tents or vehicles but not hold all the tools at once. This may shift into those taking less pronounced roles, so maybe everyone will carry a hatchet, hunting knife and matches to feed themselves but then one person may also carry a toolbox to fix up cars or remove traps whilst one may carry a map and compass to orienteer the group effectively. [Other] So I think food and water are too easy to find, I like the "Make DayZ a Living Hell" idea here, starvation and dehydration if you don't find food and water when they become more sparse, less medical items laying around whilst more realistic medical items should be implemented.

Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting

meta-gaming and ghosting TEAMSPEAK SERVERS is allowed... ghosting servers (ie: moving into position for an iminent attack/ or to steal vehicles etc etc...) is considered exploiting game mechanics which IS PROHIBITED. as far as posting proof on the forums i dont get who you guys think you are lol. psyl3nt said it perfectly. they are following the rules of reporting and anyone not on the dev team has ANY right to demand proof. nor does the dev team NEED to update a thread publicly on actions taken regarding either side of this issue.
