Rules of Engagement. I am an Operator, Not a Bandit
Beltway replied to Zombie Sniper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have to agree. This isn't an after school special with cup cakes and glitter. This is the end of the world with zombies and others that want what you got and will put one in between your eye brows to get it. I once blew a girl's head off because one of my mates brought her to camp. Claimed she was "friendly" and wouldn't hurt anyone, but I stick to my rules and the first one is Don't Trust Anybody. By the way did I mention it was a bandit kill? That one act of kindness cost us a few hours of moving tents, vehicles, hardware, and food. If we let her stay I could imagine the real damage she would of done. Sure she sounded as sweet as a cherry pie, but that don't mean Ol' Beltway won't put one in your ass. My mate still gets a lot of crap from us because he fell for the "woman in distress" bit. -
Fact: In Day Zed, you are a civilian. Fact: Some people are good at cooking, some people aren't. Relevance? Sure, you are a civilian in Day Zed, but some people are better or more potent in some areas than others. Say you had civilian classes? You could be a doctor, and administer bloodpacks to yourself and others. Engineers could repair vehicles. Hunters are better at wielding long guns, and policemen are better with one-handed guns. Lumberjacks (or some equivalent) are better with melee weapons. Runners have better agility, and can vault, run, and move a bit faster than others. Pilots can pilot helicopters. These are examples of could-be classes. There is no Marine, Medic, Soldier, Special Ops, or ect, but a bit more realistic skillsets. These classes have special skills and can affect how you play. No characters are at a disadvantage to what abilities they can do, but some are better than others or can do things some can't. Take the runner. He can run faster than some for a time, but does not have the skills of the doctor or hunter. This affects how he will play. Most likely, he will play the game defensively, and evade trouble, or work as the get-go-guy, the one who goes in, gets supplies, and then gets out, fast. He's not any worse at weilding guns, driving, making fires or anything else, although he cannot repair vehicles or helicopters or drive them. The other classes would also affect gameplay styles, but wouldn't make them impossible. Teams wouldn't HAVE to form to survive, but are much better off if they exist. The skills players value would come out, and make things interesting. Let's face it; not everyone can repair vehicles, give blood transfusions, pilot helicopters, and the like. And this feature wouldn't be a burden. It's fun! You get a specialty skill and use it to your advantage to survive. There might be a lot of doctors, but that only gives them a different specialty skill, and some others are better suited to take them out. Even if ALL these classes don't sound good, why not atleast cover the basics? Doctor that can use bloodpacks, engineer that can repair vehicles, and a pilot that can only repair helicopters and pilot them. This of course isn't great, and I like my first idea of classes better, but neither are set-in-stone, and it's just a suggestion. The point is to show you how classes could work out in the game, and how you could benefit from them.

I think in a previous patch you did require a toolbox to fix up vehicles, but it was removed, no idea why. But +1 to anything that nerfs barbed wire. Honestly, people need to fuck off with that stuff. At least make it smaller so you're able to vault over it, but so it still remains its effectiveness of stopping zombies and players from completely passing through it. This I also agree with, it's annoying having your leg broken by a stray zombie. Though the chance of it happening has been lowered, it's one of the worst things to be afflicted by. The possibility to fix yourself up in the wilderness is appealing. I disagree with the map and the "fog of war" sense of exploration, I've found it never helps to back to places you've always been, I feel you should always be moving forward, exploring deeper inland or along the coast.
-
To fix this they should have put a random spawn on vehicles over 2 weeks!!! Its hard not to take vehicles when you start the server! But yeah your 100% correct!
-
I disagree. I think IED's should be implemented as another game mechanic. I would LOVE to be able to booby trap my backpack/tent/vehicles. It makes complete sense in the context of the game and if it hasn't already been suggested in the suggestions threads it should be.

Banned From US 763 for "Vehicle Hoarding"
Aitloian replied to Aitloian's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah i'm not sure why i'm banned my roomates are still using the vehicles we had so its not like the admin has found them. Vertisce let me know if you host a server and want 4-5 people to play with were pretty damn fun to play with and have an uncanny knack for finding vehicles. -
Afaik the CZ550 is a civilian class hunting rifle ArmAwise. And please don't call every scoped rifle a sniper rifle. That and maybe the SVD should be the end of the stick in the high powered scoped rifle section in this region. I don't know what US or UK weapons and vehicles have lost here anyway...i bet they have their own Z problem in their own country atm.

Yesterday: Found a UAZ in the middle of the road. Drove it around, put gear in it. Today: UAZ was respawned due to server issue. Lost M24 and assorted gear. Shrugged and moved on. Vehicles are already fairly common, especially since out-of-map camps started getting wiped. You will find vehicles, you will lose them. Vehicles aren't game-enders, they're just game changers. Wanna go raid NWA? Well, driving in guns blazing is now an option for your group. Want to start a taxi? Option. Having a vehicle doesn't automatically make you a god-stomping bandit who leaves a trail of destruction in your wake.

I understand and thats the same thing we face when we play. yall are the first group we have come across that hasnt done it to us in the 2 weeks the server has been up. I really hate i missed the second battle, from what i hear it was pretty intense. oh and btw we do not have but one vehicle if it is still there aint seen it in a long time. We did have 3 but we suspect some other group has been hording them. Me and another guy ran up on a camp with one of our stolen vehicles with 4 players there.

Banned From US 763 for "Vehicle Hoarding"
Aitloian replied to Aitloian's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The funny thing is i've played for like a week and have had problems where our vehicle's don't show up on reset and have asked the admin to restart and he's always done it and been a nice guy about it. And then yesterday the great Server Name Change DayZ of Chaos happened and spent like 3 hours trying to figure out what server it was changed too finally found it logged in checked my vehicles and went hunting for a bit then I logged out, tried to log in a couple hours later and I was banned. Edit: The Server is now not online, will the admin get in any trouble for say changing the name to something I couldn't find? Or maybe its just offline lol -
Yeah, im a fan of the wire. Don't remove it, Dont do anything to it. Whoever said finding a toolbox has a point, if there is a cumbersome set of wire, just take it down. Toolboxes are fairly easy to find. All 12 of my teamates have one, and we refuse to server hop...So, weve had to find replacements along the way. Check industrial buildings. That being said, wire fencing as it is called in game, (looks a lot like concertina wire to me) is intensely damaging to personnel, and vehicles realistically. Its razor wire, not barb wire. Why can I drive right through it, and flatten it like a tent, and why can I vault over it. When conceretina wire is driven through, it wraps around a vehicle, and shreds the tires, it has the potential to disable tracked vehicles if spaced properly and emplaced correctly. It also has the ability to become a pull behind mess of razor wire capable of ensnaring personnell as it passes them. So why does a GAZ roll right over it. Army doctrine used to state that in order to cross a roll of concertina wire, a plank must be used to throw down on top of it, compressing the wire, in order for troops to cross. same for fenced wire. This could be an AWESOME mechanic to put in game. Maybe Arma 3 could see some good uses of concertina wire. I'd throw a vote for changing these mechanics.

Guy spawned ATV on brick bridge at Vybor?
Miragenz replied to aphex187's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Bridges and docks dont work well with the ATV, and vehicles in general. You often crash trying to cross a bridge on an ATV and thus you can often find one at bridges and docks. Finding it 3 times at the same location is just really lucky i guess. -
My friends and I have found about 6 vehicles. Bus, Car, 2 Bicycles, Motorcycles, 2 Tractors, Pickup Truck x 2....They are VERY scarce indeed though.

Banned From US 763 for "Vehicle Hoarding"
Aitloian replied to Aitloian's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I could take a screenshot when I try and log in, it tells me I'm banned for vehicle hoarding. The funny thing is we had two other vehicles a red and a white car that wasn't needed or used so we blew the red car up and gave the white one away. I'm literally giving vehicles away because I didn't want to hoard them. -
Agree or Disagree? Why we kill...
Jack Dant replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, absolutely. I've been an EVE Online player for quite a few years and I'm familiar with the need to rebalance things from time to time. But I don't think the problem is what you think it is. The PVP in DayZ is very enjoyable and probably one of its strong points. Any sort of discouraging/punishment of what you perceive as pointless PVP, is only going to hurt an important facet of the game. Now, what the game is missing, is conflict drivers for the geared up players. Once you reach a certain point in your ingame life, you have the tools you need to survive forever in the forest. You have your favorite PVP gun, and a pack full of stuff for "emergencies". Now what's left? What reason would you have to PVP except the thrill of it? That's what we are seeing. The only thing filling in as a conflict driver right now are vehicles. And let me tell you, the vehicle ambushes I've been involved in have been awesome. But then, if the vehicle even survives the fight (and I'm at a 33% survival rate myself), what did you win? They are not really that useful, and having multiple vehicles is usually a waste. TL;DR: It's not that people are killing each other for the wrong reasons, it's that there's no right reason to kill each other once you reach a certain point. But killing each other is fun, so we do it anyway. -
Things that should be changed in future patches
[email protected] replied to wowi132's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I normally don't agree with the "go back to cod you handhold-needing crybaby" people but what you're saying, other than zombie zigzagging which is pretty bad, is mostly just "make the game easier" Vehicles should respawn after a couple days of not being used, though. The problem isn't a low spawn rate, the problem is people finding the vehicles and hoarding them in tent cities at the very north of the map. An hour in Cherno or Elektro will yield everything you need to live off the land and kill zeds and players. Starting items isn't that much of an issue since it's easy to lose zeds if you're anywhere near a town. -
Many servers have recently been renamed to conform with standard naming conventions. If you can no longer find your regular server because you know it as (e.g.) "Seattle 46" and not the host name there is an easy way to find it. This can be disheartening to people with tents / vehicles that think their server is perpetually offline. First, google "seattle 46" day z "Hosted By" obviously, insert your server in place of seattle 46, but make sure the quotes are the same as I listed. Don't click on any links, but in the results, you'll see a list of the cached information for your server whose name has recently changed. For instance, gametracker.com search result says something to the effect of: "Seattle 46 (v1.7.1.1) dayzmod.com - Hosted by The Begotten 216.244.82.90:2332 - ARMA 2 Server" The host name in this example is "The Begotten". Alternatively if the ip information is available you can use this if the following steps fail. Then, visit http://www.gametrack...m/search/arma2/ and type in your host name. You should see the new server name (e.g.) "US 662" in the search results. An additional tip: If "i" doesn't work on your server, you can still find out what server you're on - or the server you just d/c'd from by going to http://www.gametrack...y=online_player and searching for your in-game name. It updates about once every 3-5 minutes or so, so there's not much time to do this! "Don't shoot me, is all I ask." -Daxon

is there even a point in going to nw airfield?
TigerEye (DayZ) replied to t3hnoob's topic in New Player Discussion
NW airfield is definitely worth it. After all, the primary goal of this game is to have fun. If all you do is play it safe then you are just killing time. But raiding the NW airfield, especially when there are lots of people on the server, is a great time. That said, you should behave reasonably. Use cover when it's available even if it takes longer to get where you want to go. I like to circle around the entire airfield and approach the tower and fire station from behind. If anyone is camped in there I can kill them. From there, I make my way to the hangars making sure to scan the area with my binoculars to see if any snipers are visible. Since Gillie suits don't work right now that job is made easier. It's best to go to the airfield with a group. One person as sniper and overwatch, two assault weapons, and at least one suppressed weapon to take out zombies. One guy checks the loot while the rest set up a perimeter and keep an eye out for bandits (bandits are anyone who are not you and your group). I also recommend not bringing your best gear and come with your backpacks empty. That way you can get more stuff and decide what you want to keep later. One important thing is to not stick around. Get what you want and get out. Worry about trading clips and equipment later on. Safety is the primary goal here. And last of all, try to find out when the server restarts. Some servers reboot every 160 minutes and others do it once a day. If you can find out when that restart happens you can show up at that time grab the prime loot and get out quick. All loot, vehicles, and helicopter crashes respawn when the server resets (except for saved vehicles). -
Vehicles: Just a Myth Nowdays
larrylongbottom replied to Batatinha123's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Myself and my friend have found over 6 different vehicles since the tent wipe, never seen one before and I had been playing for around 3 months prior to that. -
It won't take you more than 40 minutes run across the map from corner to corner, if you plan your route and don't get shot at or meet other players.... (path of least resistance) The distance is about 20km.... Which means you run at about 30km/h..... dafuq? Who needs vehicles? But no, working cars or anything would be extremely hard to find in a post-apocalyptic Russia But an ATV being the equivalent to a mobile tent is kind of silly.

It is a weapon that doesn't fit this game/mod ... it's like saying: let's introduce the tanks or even nukes .. they are vehicles and weapons after all, but they will heavily unbalance the game, this is why i hope the L85A2 will stay out. PS: before you reply i had the weapon (pre 1.7.2) and i admit it was OP, especially when played in team: two guys with thermal to spot players and others to snipe em.. almost unbeatable.

[DZRS]Qauntum here, an admin of Dallas 3, While i was not ingame, but had rCon open i noticed people complaining that they had been teleported into the air and dropped. I checked through the logs for around that time, and found a not so subtle hacker. Server: Dallas 3 Time: Around 09:34 CDT (GMT-5) What happened: Multiple people (possibly the whole server) teleported into the air...some people said into an aircraft, then dropped) Logs also suggest he attempted to spawn multiple vehicles Hackers identity: Name: "Joe" GUID: 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 Relevant server logs: This happened multiple times, i found it from about 10 minutes before the attack 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #42 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"players"] execVM "\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #45 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"players"] execVM "\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #42 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"onload"] execVM "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #45 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"onload"] execVM "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf"; This, a few seconds before people started talking about it in chat r_player_ 13.07.2012 09:34:56: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #13 icopter" || _v iskindof "plane") then { _v setVehicleInit "[this] spawn BIS_Effects_AirDestruction"; 13.07.2012 09:34:56: NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER 1]; sleep 0.05; And this for each of the names of the players on the server, including Joe _v setVehicleInit format ["[this, %1, %2]spawn BIS_Effects_A 13.07.2012 09:34:56: NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER 1]; sleep 0.05; I redacted the info of the other users on the server and replaced it with "NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER" He calls ""\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf";" and "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf";" again at 09:36:09 and 09:36:58. Then after that there is nothing out of the ordinary. As i say in the title, he has now been GUID banned from Dallas 3. I would advise other admins to be on the look out for him.

Neat idea, would be good for loading up vehicles
-
I would definitely like to see a change in the frequency of military-grade equipment, depending on the intended 'backstory' to who your character is (i.e. just some Joe Schmoe civilian fighting to survive, or scattered military personnel fighting to survive). Your everyday civilian wouldn't know the proper procedures to load, maintain, or properly control a M240 or M249. Your everyday military member wouldn't know how to start, maintain, or even fly a helicopter. But that's just a thought. Realistically though, I'd like to see more emphasis on pistols, rifles, shotguns, maybe even more melee weapons. Make optics something that you'd have to find and attach to a (obviously appropriate) weapon, so that that rare AS50 or M107 that you do find may have had it's optics busted off, adding just one more step to justify it's top-notch killing power. (I'd also like to see the Winchester converted back to a .45 carbine, but add a new lever-action shotgun, and make all shotgun rounds interchangeable...) I believe that the issue with so-called "overpowered" weapons is as good as it will get at this time. and that removing weapons would be a step in the wrong direction. The reason the AS50 and the M107 exist in the game is because they exist in real life. "Why would you need the M107?" Why not? It's not designed to be used as a one-shot, one-kill rifle, it's designed to disable vehicles. Whatever someone chooses to do with it, though, is their choice. If they went through hell and back to get an M107, they sure as hell would want to use it however they choose. Consider this: A pocket of survivors set up an overwatch on top of a building and lie in ambush for a bandit vehicle to come rolling down the highway. Poor little vehicle is met by two well-placed shots by the M107 to disable it, while one or two others with scoped rifles pin down/eliminate the bandits. Reason for disabling the vehicle and not just blasting the driver? So that some sneaky bandit can't make a 'quick' escape in the vehicle, or take it on a suicide run into your camp. Once the bandits are dead, you send your little clean-up crew to 1) scavenge the bodies for supplies, 2) repair the truck, 3) bring it back to your camp. OR, if you want to be a bandit, then just swap instances of survivor and bandit. Now you have a scenario where a group of organized bandits ambush a survivor truck and steal their stuff. However you want to look at it, these "overpowered" weapons are just weapons. They don't make you invincible, they don't win the game for you, they don't ruin the game for everyone that doesn't have them.
