IIRC vehicles are already saved when you exit or enter them, and the menu item is just an artifact from the past.
-
Why is there a manual option to save tents and vehicles? Shouldn't that be automatic? Proposed change: Tents Any time the gear window closes -or- any time an object is added or removed (slightly more costly) [*]Vehicles: Any time the gear window closes OR any time an object is added or removed (slightly more costly) Any time the last person exits the vehicle OR any time the driver seat becomes unoccupied Or: Both tents and vehicles save on a single server-wide timer.
-
While there is always a chance your tents/vehicles will be found by someone else, if you take the time to find good spots and place only one tent at each spot you should always have plenty of supplies to gear yourself up again after a death. Just find good spots between pine trees so that the tent cannot be seen unless players come very close to it, always place them at least a few hundred meters apart from each other and ever better on different servers. That's how me and my friends do it and while we have lost a few tents so far, most of them have been safe for weeks and if one does get raided its not really a big deal since we have others to fall back on.

Where do I start? Please don't assume that I make a post because I need to vent or I'm mad in some way. I was talking, as a OFP/ARMA/ARMA2 player for over a dozen years, of the unbalancing effect these rifles have on the game in general. I don't care about getting shot by them. Hasn't happened yet in DayZ, I know how to sneak pretty well, although I know a Arma player by the name of Cowboy who's schooled me with the .50 cal many times over the years. I don't care that they're out of my range, that's not the point. I can perfectly accept that I can't shoot back. What I object to is that particularly powerful weapons that were intended, by their spawn rates, to be extremely rare, are appearing as dupped/spawn farmed weapons on every server. If their ammo was limited, that would be different, but given that their ammunition is effectively unlimited (spawn in with full mags), there's not even that check against them. When we go to beta, with all of the duping/ammo issues resolved, then by all means try bring them out again. Until then, they're just a gift for most players to camp with. Finally, any self respecting sniper will have a secondary for close up work. Personally, I like the DMR because it serves both roles quite well, but I'd opt for a good assault rifle if I didn't have a DMR. Ultimately... Yes the weapons exist in real life. Yes modern snipers make use of them Yes it's nice to beable to stop vehicles with them Do they contribute to the kind of gameplay that Rocket envisioned?? Does he ultimately want to create a game that's balanced and fun to play? I hope so. DayZ ca be so much more than another FPS. Does balancing the game take priority before he irons our the mechanics, of course not... All we can do is give our feedback... pro's and cons... In the end, Rocket makes of DayZ what he wants...

My 5 Cars proof (and motorcycle and tents)
AfricanizedBees replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Admins have NO WAY to see where vehicles are on their own servers. The only way would be if someone was running scripts to reveal vehicle locations and very few people are capable of that with the new battleye updates. Admins have no special powers except for server administration. Kicks bans, restarts, setting options. -
Our tents and vehicles went missing after a server reset and came back after the next. Now it happen again, hopefully they will come back after the reset too. I had just unloaded all my gear into one of the trucks so I could carry more stuff just before the truck went missing so they better come back or else I am screwed. Hehe. :P

I have a few suggestions Ive been thinking of some may or may not of been mentioned before. Add female zombies. Add kid zombies that are very eery. Focus on making them the freaky ones. Make zombies drop things that people would actually have on them......For instance Men and Women zombies should have a great chance to drop a Watch or painkillers by like 50% Also a 25% chance or so to drop matches or a knife and a slim 1% 5% or 10% chance or so to drop a Makarov or Revolver with 1 magazine of ammo (concealed carry is kinda commonish.) Kid zombies I can see having a can of soda or a bag of potato chips I can also see maybe a compass being rare on a kid. Doing this will add variety of zombies we are killing and also adding in more realism and desire to kill zombies. I would also really like to see a stamina bar so we cannot run for miles and miles and miles. In my opinion it would make vehicles more desirable for travel and not just storage. Also adding a stamina system to the bicycle would be nice. So it will not make the bike the GO TO way to travel. Also to compensate make the zombies have jogging speed or maybe a little less instead of zipping around but increase there numbers by a lot. Doing this would in my opinion make people want to work together a lot more. Ok now lets say you are camping on top of a building in elektro with 100 rounds of ammo. You see a dude with an AK. You shoot him and 20 zombies aggro and come to you. No big deal, you shoot them all and loot the dead guy. But if elektro being a high item drop place and it now instead has 2000 zombies littering the streets and you somehow made it to the city by yourself and onto the top of the building. If you see a dude with an AK........will you really shoot? Lets say you don't. And you yell to him "Yo dude up here!" Will he want to shoot you? Maybe. But the chances that guy wants to aggro 2000 zombies will be slim considering the numbers and the distance someone can RUN. So maybe you guys join up. You guys can now take on lets say 300 zombies with the ammo you guys have. Maybe moving to a smaller town with less drop rates but only 100 zombies would be a better idea. Item spawns in smaller towns and places would need to be changed to make smaller cities more desirable to loot to build up on ammo to eventually go to the bigger cities too. Another idea is a postage note. Simple small thing. The ability to make a note that you can put in someones tent, car, place or anything like that. All in all a simple non aggressive way to communicate with someone else without being at gun point. For instance. You come back from a journey to a town to get some supplies with your buddy. You come back to your car you got in the woods next to your tent. You look in your car and there is a postage saying. "Hey guys I saw your camp and noticed you didn't have any food so I dropped off some of my spare food. I have an ATV and a Tent up north on grid 014 and 077 if you guys want to join up drop me off a postage at my tent. In case you don't have any postage notes i left a few blank ones." So instead of finding a tent and saying well........if i stay here i might get shot......if I wait here until i see them and try to talk to them I may startle them and die. A postage would be a nice way to contact players with low hostility. It could also be a way to piss people off. Imagine the same scenario but instead the car is empty and the postage note says "You guys are dumb for putting this car here. I was able to see it from a mile away. Thanks for the guns and lewt. Chow!" And something that also ties in with the postage note idea is maybe a super rare chance to find lets say for instance on a male zombie out in the woods somewhere. On the note it says "To whom this may concern. My name is (insert name) I have set off to find my wife and little girl some food. The market down the road from us in Polana has been over run by zombies and we haven't had a bite of food in a week. I have left my firearms with my wife for protection and set off to find food. I dont know if I will make it back. If I am dead and my fate has been made please help my family they are in a small green house north of the Polana Market by the bus stop." So since you are in the woods just south of polana you set off and made it to the house. You make it inside to see a little zombie girl and mother and 2 other zombies. You kill them and the mother has a hunting rifle with 3 magazines and a 1911 with 4 magazines. The little girl has a backpack with a bottle of water and 2 empty bottles of water matches, painkillers, some bandages. Making about 500 different events like that from a note on a dead zombie or in a car out near a gas station or something like that will add great flavor to the game and add tiny little stories to the game with some reward. Also take bandages and painkillers away from random spawns and make them more house oriented to add desire to small towns. Also adding in a First aid kit that has 2 bandages some painkillers and antibiotics would be nice. Making them rarely spawn in houses would be realistic and helpful and add desire to loot small towns. And also adding in an increased chance to find small arms weapons in houses would also be more realistic and make small towns more desirable to loot.

Helicopters returning to dayz?

Hacked vehicles. And OP, use the search funcion. Many people have asked this already. -
Hello When was the wave of bans, and I was banned, although no cheating is not used. Found a lot of things from cadavers and used vehicles, but later learned that it was illegally produced by other players. After the ban has bought a new key, and learned from other players that the use of illegal goods produced by other players, should not ban. So please consider my appeal. Just want to say that at present there is private program that greatly upset the balance of the game. I guess I'm not one that's noticed. Here is a link to the video, with her work. The author of this program says that he found a way to bypass the anticheat. Please do something about it. The program is called LostDay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3aJWEL6ziY&feature=player_embedded

Where did you find both those vehicles, I had two stored some where and could never get back on the server :(
-
Not only that, but we have lost 2 vehicles packed with loot while travelling in them when the server went down. They both had vanished when we logged back in.

So, today was a very two sided day. Me and a friend had been camping out up north for nearly 2 weeks now, only to lose everything in our tents to a bug this morning. We decided as a result, to go to Berezino and get our hands on some new tents, what we found? A tractor, an ATV, M4A1 CCO, MP5SD etc, nothing amazing, but certianly worth a pickup. My friend drives the ATV up to our camp only for it to freak out and flip on its side, dissappearing and taking everything we found with it. Not disheartened we decided to go on a run for some heli sites to fill up our tents. What did we find this time? LA85 AWS, FN FAL with mags, m107 with mags. Pretty neat stuff, we head up to camp and store it all in our tents before logging out for awhile to get stuff to eat. On logging back in, everything in our tents was gone AGAIN, but not to a bug this time. We saw about 100 meters away, a new tent that wasn't ours. Now this is where it gets intresting. We notice the tent is in the dead open with a perfect line of sight from a small opening, we deduced it was bait and someone was waiting in the opening out of our line of sight. We head up to a treeline and take a 5 minute journey round to an angle in which we can see into the opening but not be spotted ourselves. Using the majoryly OP LA85 AWS scope we find out there's no one there and decide to head for the tent. Inside we find some mediocre loot, DMR mags, anti biotics, lots of medical supplies but nothing of any real value and nothing from our tents. We decide to pack up our tents and move north. Not 5 minutes later we're running up a hill when my friend stops dead "Holy fuck, you have to be kidding me", i can't see what he's looking at. I swivel around and then i see it, an offroad pickup truck, an ural and a green truck i've never seen before surrounded by about 30 tank traps. We cautiously approach, once again abusing the L85AWS to spot people, nothing again. We move in *chink* the notorious sound of a coke can opening. I nearly jump out my skin as my friend lets off 5-6 rounds from his L85 without saying anything. *Soldier was killed*. We move in, even more cautious now incase he had friends. We calm down and begin searching the vehicles, we can't believe what we find. 4 AS50s, 2 SVDs, 2 L85s, 3 rocket launchers, 16 bear traps, 40 ish silenced stanag mags, m240, mk 48 MoD, multiple versions of the m4 with various attachments, FN FAl with the night vision scope, 2 ghilli suits, gps, 2 NvGs and lots of RGO grenades. Giggling with excitement like 2 little girls we clear the tank traps, move them up the hill, put everything we want in the Ural and pickup before blowing up the green truck. We take the vehicles up near Guba thinking no one will bother looking around there. We park up, set up tents, get screenshots to brag to our friends with. I decide to log out for a minute as something is wrong with my UI. Not 30 seconds later my friend tells me over skype he's dead, 1 hit from close range. I decide not to log back on as the Setup completing phase will probably get me shot. So yeah, what a rollercoaster of a day, finidng rarities and losing them like it's nobodies buisness. Hope lady luck is treating the rest of you rather consistently :P

Okay first i'd like to say that most of these ideas have been mentioned but i am building upon them. 1) Before the outbreak: lets be honest not everyone is gonna have the exact same skill sets, they could learn but they won't know everything from the start, so first lets divide the "previous lives" the survivors lived into three categories: civilian, military and convict Civilian are people like doctors, mechanics, hunters, teachers and police, each with their own bonuses, doctors bandage faster, gain an effectiveness bonus in hospitals(speed, blood added maybe?) and get more from blood packs maybe, mechanics repair and refuel faster and require less parts for full repairs, hunters are quieter start with a hunting knife and get extra meat from animals, teachers give a bonus to anyone within X distance from them and gain a bonus while in larger groups of people and police start with a makarov and 3-4 clips. Military receive a lesser morale effect from killing and start with a rifle and a few clips and have a camo skin (not ghillie) and a larger backpack they include infantry, engineers, field medics, snipers and pilots, infantry are more accurate, reload quicker and run faster, engineers same as mechs only they gain the bonus on military vehicles and a lesser bonus to civilian vehicles, field medics can stop bleeding from minor wounds (severity of attack change?) and more effective than doctors while in the field with a lesser bonus in hospitals, snipers are more accurate and get a notice saying rough distance of targets after aiming i.e. 100 ish, 200 ish meters and pilots are the only ones capable of flying choppers, not much but a good reason to spare someone if you have a broken one and don't have a pilot yourself. And finally Convict they start with civilian gear but wear a prisoner skin (can be changed by taking a killed survivors clothes) they include murderers, arsonists, thieves and junkies, murderers get no morale loss from killing but do have blood on their hands(literally), arsonists carry a lighter (infinite matches), gain a moral bonus near fire of any kind and can make molotovs (rag, bottle, fuel), thieves quiet and can steal items from others without being noticed and gain a small bonus from using stolen objects, junkies are insane basically, i don't mean just people doing weed i mean LSD psychos, they are extremely strong and don't faint from blood loss as easily and don't die instantly from normal kill shots, they don't realize they are dead instantly but they do suffer addictions to drugs they start with 2 units of a drug (3 or 4 types) that spawn variously in the city, withdrawal cannot be fought threw and causes shakes and muttering causing sound to be stuck at level two minimum (im not 100% sure how people really are so correct me if this is too extreme). 2) morale: not everyone acts the same so your past affects it from square one, but also like what another user said maybe a progressive change, if you spend time near others you gain morale while near them and lose some while alone, spend time alone and you gain a bonus to it and lose it near others as you've lost people skills, killing people will always have an affect but the more you kill the less you feel, eventually. effects include hallucinations, seeing survivors in the distance fade out into mist. hearing the voices of your victims when you look at other survivors down the sights (only after many kills in one small area to prevent the guys hiding out on a rooftop) the voices stack with more kills. high morale grants bonuses like better accuracy, less blood until fainting, longer till hungry and thirsty. 3) game mechanics: after patching the bugs etc. tweak the infected, so that they have a stamina bar because lets face it the average person can sprint for 30 secs tops so make them stop after a bit, same for the survivors and the more often you sprint the further you can go, it increases slightly until you can run for a full minute maybe. also add a severity of injuries, cars and falls break bones only, zed attacks vary from slight to deep wounds, deep wounds bleed a lot and need bandages and stitches, slight is basically a scratch and just causes a tiny blood loss, and average just need bandages but will heal after time on their own. broken legs require a splint (wood+bandage) and make food and water have set amounts of hunger and thirst, not a full refill from a can of pop. 4) chernaus radio: give each player a radio at the start allowing direct chat between players in close proximity as well as tuning in to the radio station in the city which will be player controlled and has a generator that when full powers it for 24 hours maybe 10 jerry cans, whoever is in control can speak through his/her mic and broadcast throughout the server giving reports like if theres a couple of guys about to raid cherno who need help they send a message through the radio to the guys at the station who can say to everyone listening, they can aslo play music through it (connect it to grooveshark or something?) i know this is long winded and there will be things people dont like but please give a reason for it not just i dont like this idea and any extras anyone can think of to add on please comment them thank you for reading
-
Do's -When traveling in a group always carry at least 1 extra of each medical supply - If you have a vehicle, always have a spare tire in the vehicles inventory and a Jerry can - When in PvP hotspots do not fire your main weapon unless you are aiming at another player -Always make sure when you have a grenade, that it is not selected when you are trying to fire your weapon Dont's - Never run in front of your teammates line of fire - Never leave yourself in the open or without cover

Stop complaining about 'hackers'
allbusiness replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would anyone ignore the problem? You do understand that virtually every single major group on every server has someone that cheats correct? The usage of ESP is rampant among many "top" level clans that have hoarded vehicles, equipment, etc. and people also are duping excessively on top of the ESP, which results in a stranglehold on the server. I know this because I have been prefired upon by MANY supposedly "top" level clans. I have seen camps with virtually every vehicle in the game, with literally 40+ tents, etc. Now I know occasionally one or two groups may actually have the time to get all of these things without dying. However, if you're telling me every major group has something like this.... 8+ Vehicles 40+ Tents Various Helicopter Loot Weapons such as 10+ AS50s, 15+ Bizon SMGs, 15+ L85s, etc. Various High Level Military Grade Loot such as SD M4A1, M4/M16 with GL, DMRs, etc. etc. Truckload of Grenades/Antibiotics/Satchel Charges etc. You have got to be fucking kidding me. I was in fact a part of a group, and in fact one of the admins was also in the group. And in that group, the admin used ESP, and allowed others to utilize ESP as long as they were in the camp's group. It was just hilarious seeing this happen. I got sick of it and left, moved to another server, joined up with another group and guess what.... same thing. I decided to start playing on my own, and I would encounter various groups on other servers along the North/West edges of the map, and I would get immediately prefired on in the most random spots ever, along with the most ridiculous shit I've ever seen before (such as completely random movements, tracking of me from 600m out, etc.) It's not cool at all; most major groups did not obtain their equipment legitimately at all. I've known many administrators who overlook the whole thing just because they are in the group. It is absolutely hilarious the amount of hacking that is going on, because I can guarantee you that out of 10 groups, 7 of them contain a hacker of some sort, whether he uses scripts, ESP, or whatever. The game is quickly becoming dumb because of this nonsense, and it's actually making me feel the necessity to hack just to be able to compete against other groups. That's how fucking bad it is. The "endgame" is about PvP late game while trying to control resources on the map. That's what makes DayZ "endgame" great. You're fighting for control over resources, and if you have multiple groups doing it and the resources are relatively even, it's alot of fun. That is very rare that happens though, because usually one asshole group tends to cheat, which results in the other group cheating, and then hilarity ensues where the group that wins is usually the one with the administrator that just kicks/bans the other group off the server. People really need to open their eyes. Scripting hackers who do hilarious shit like Invincible Axe Murderer with music blaring, or lame A-10/Helicopter attacks on towns, All kills on servers, etc. are not the issue. Those guys are very rare, as they are so blatant it is easy to catch them a vast majority of the time. The most rampant amount of hacking that is going on are the hackers that pretend to play legitimate, and a vast majority of them are in the "top" groups in DayZ that hoard multiple vehicles/weapons/dupe weapons/etc. and have insane PvP stats (they never die since they always know where you are). -
So one of the biggest hurdles in playing DayZ is the engine. I love DayZ, from the aesthetics to the intensity. Saying that, I don’t think I’m alone when I say that Arma 2, or at least the Real Virtuality Engine, seems to be holding the game back from wacky stuff like doors opening and breaking legs to other problems like incredibly poor optimization that causes, even good machines, to run horribly. There are a lot of other engines that could be used, but the one that stands out to me is CryEngine 3, as it is free to develop on and take 20% when you release the game full. I am, by any persons standards, NOT a game developer. One thing I have done, however, is download the CryEngine 3 SDK and messed around with it. I’ve created landscapes that are larger than Chernarus and easily made forests that look amazing. The one thing I love about this engine is the versatility, ease-of-use and the real-time editing. There are things I see, being developed for CryEngine 3, that blow my mind and make me wonder how amazing a game like DayZ could be on this game. Although it might change some play styles and ways we do things, I think DayZ would be better for it. I’m not sure if Rocket has some kind of affinity for Real Virtuality, or it was just the engine he chose because it is so realism based, but I can’t imagine there is anything it can do that can’t be done in CryEngine 3. Things like real-time vegetation: Could you imagine a world where the year-long cycle lasts a 60 days? Depending on what time you play on, the world could be completely different. You could have lots of long grass to crawl through in February but by the end of March it could be a pretty barren landscape and you’d need to move differently. Vehicles are so much more immersive and take locational damage (you can pop tires, etc.) and with mods like the above (or even a simplified version) you could get very immersive and real things happening in games, rather than what we have now where you can throw a grenade at a car, it’ll explode, but the car will sit there for a few seconds until it randomly combusts. CryEngine 3 has a pretty great showcase of games that have been made on it also, which show how versatile an engine it can be. Of course, we have Crysis 1 and 2, which show how we can go from urban landscapes to forests but also we have games such as Nexuiz that are quake-like shooter games. which couldn’t be more different than Crysis was and shows that latency and hit-detection isn’t a huge issue. Even MMORPG games, which rely heavily on being able to put many players on on server and include a in-depth inventory system, are being developed such as Cabal 2, Archeage and AION. Games like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 have a bullet cam that is very pretty. Could you imagine DayZ being able to give you replays of your kills with a bullet cam? Maybe this idea isn’t for everyone, but it’s something that could be done within the engine. So that’s my attempt at turning you guys onto CryEngine. I don’t work for CryTek or have ever communicated with them, I’ve just faffed around in the engine a little bit and have been blown away by how good it is and that even someone like me could learn how to use it without much trouble.

Yeah, my tents were wiped. Or destroyed... I assume wiped though, people generally steal from tents and wouldn't have had the grenades to destroy tents that far apart and vehicles wouldn't be overly controllable in my camp site.

All 3 camps 200km apart raided in 6hours
Denuth replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I raided 3 seperate camps on my server in the north, spend 2-3 hours running up hills and doing a 360 degree spotting pattern and its not that hard to find them in the north. final results were 3 camps, 2 vehicles, and a whole lot of mad players =P -

Please do a complete database/server wipe with next update
derkb replied to lexxer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sorry but i think gearing up and such has been tested now for a good time so, no need to test it over and over and over again, pointless at all. A wipe means nothing to guys that hack in there stuff, then loose it and other pick it up and so on, you only waste the time of players that got there stuff legit. What should i test while gearing up? How good i can run, how good i can shoot zeds? Spawn of loot testing? I get your point of duping and such, well shit happens and not that i would care so much about not getting the stuff back i now have, i for sure know how and were i get my start gear and from there it is only a question of a bit of time and i get all i realy need. A wipe only prevents me from testing things out like vehicles or other stuff that gets put in, i do not get the point why i or others should waste there time over and over again for gearing up, even if it only takes about 30 mins to get a gear that makes you fit enough to stay out there for a very long time. So in terms of testing and all, wiping would not do anything then pissing some players of that got there stuff legit, the duper and hackers or what ever will not even care a secound, they know they will get there gear asap. And sorry, if you like playing dayz at the coast, fine do it, i do not like it that much down there so why not let me play how i like it? Even after a wipe you will find the coast guys at the coast and the others still go up north, all do what they like, wipe means nothing at all in terms of that. Were i could agree is a wipe at the point DayZ goes beta or even better stand alone. -
Anyway to view your server history? Been playing on US546 for past week or so with some friends, had a nice collection of vehicles etc. Having a lot of fun. Was on earlier today but now a few hours later. The server has completely changed in settings and everything is gone. Not sure if it's even the same server and the old one has changed names.

Hey everyone. I've been playing dayz for a while now with a friend. We are looking for some more people to team up with so that we can do some more organized town raids and Vehicle searching We are not trying to start a clan rather we just want to find some people that enjoy the game as much as we do and want to play together We are pretty consistent players that know the mechanics and are mature. We don't have a specific server we play on and we aren't devestated about dying and losing gear. We have each lost multiple sniper rifles, nvg, ghillie suits, and vehicles to firefights. If anyone is interested you can add me on Skype:eswakon or respond to this thread

Playing on the same server the cars are on? Cars are server dependent. Also explain what you mean by a couple of tests? Currently there is a few bugs with vehicles and tents, sometimes vehicles do magically vanish but usually it's a per server issue (don't know why) but are you sure you're saving them before disconnecting? I usually hit the Save Vehicle_name_here option a couple of times before I quit just to make sure.
