  1. There should be milling and turning machines for players to find, fix and use. They should be used to fix, maintain or upgrade equipment (rifles, vehicles etc). To drive a jeep, you need to find and fix one. To fix a jeep, you need to collect a lot of metal and spares. Some spares can be found, some can be created using milling machines, turning machines and other similar equipment. To use a turning machine, you need to find it and fix it first. For that, you also need to look for spares or produce them. You would also want to move the drilling machine to a safe location close to your camp, but you'd need some sort of transport. A jeep maybe? ;)
  2. Because the service you purchase are subject to the terms of service of the hosting company you use, let me use an example. Multiplay CLEARLY states the service you purchase and the limitations you have if you want a whitelisted ranked service, Some of them are: The DayZ instance ID is provided by Multiplay. Certain entities (including but not limited to vehicles) are controlled by the DayZ development team. There is no guarantee that these will regularly spawn on your service. The server must remain public at all times. Passworded servers are not permitted. Your service must comply with DayZ naming conventions set by the development team. The DayZ server code is in the alpha stage. As such features may be missing or unstable from time to time. This includes but is not limited to memory leaks, server crashes and high CPU. We will pass any information of this nature to the DayZ development team for review. Server hosts are asked to make this clear when renting DayZ servers, if a server does not comply with the rules, they are taken off whitelisting and thus not able to connect to the hive. This is perfectly legal per contract
  3. Accedentally lost the big post I wrote about this and I can't be effed writing it all up again in detail, so here's a brief version... ill try and be concise. Also posting links to relevant image, video, and another forum post I made about this on AusArma. Server: ANZ 3 Time: What I saw began at approx 9:30pm Australian Eastern Standard Time. (don't quote me on this but i think that might be UTC+10) I finally logged off at about 1:30am while the hackers continued on. Events listed below in points:(very rough, check the link below for my AusArma post for more info I wrote over there) find crashed UH-1H, big fireball thing near Vysota (i thought helicopters were disabled due to desync danger...) check it out, see a fixed UH-1H spawn in front of my own eyes 3 players get in and it takes off i remain hidden, but it somehow sees me anyway and kills me with the mounted M240 Respawn and get some gear from my tent, see a crashed Uh-1H fireball thing in Elektro UAZ drives out of Elektro and comes straight at me from hundreds of meters away, bullshit! they kill me. meanwhile my 2 friends are making their way to me Respawn ar Prigorodky right near my friends, when the UAZ and 3 hackers drive straight for them. firefight happens, my friends dead. UAZ then somehow fucking sees me and comes right down the hill at me. BULLSHIT they saw me. I am 100% sure they're using Wall Hacks/Constant Thermal Vision/Player-Finder hacks... they get out, I run up and get in the UAZ, sadly not the drivers seat so they kill me. Next life we (myself and 1 friend) are looting elektro and we see the UAZ comign for us, by this point, we know theyre hacking and can see exactly where we are and where be go, so we haul up in a corner bulding and hold off the doorway. UAZ stops, 1 guy comes for us, and my friend kills him the same time the cheater killed my friend. UAZ drives away, I check the body and his name is "gooby pls" right,... we know 1 of them. another respawn, i find my friend and I get an AKM and he gets a M1911. We hear an M107 .50cal sniper shooting up the hill near us at Elektro. move towards the sound of the shots, together but the server desyncs and we both get lost. the server resyncs and then we both get killed shortly after. it was the same 3 hacker bandits we know it, briefly saw them before dying. certain the M107 rifle was likely to be spawned in. also note that these hackers were facing elektro trying ot snipe people down the hill, they should not have found us as we were higher than them and moving very sneakily in trees. Their hacks let them know of our prescense and they saw us and killed us when the server resynced. we have not chance against these bastards. that was it and we'd had enough so we logged out for the day, at about 1:30am. dissapointing day to say the least. OK, so please understand that I'm not good at articulating words or telling stories, but I hope you read all my dot points. Everything I say I saw is true, and these fuckers need to be CD-key banned. The information I have given here may sound like normal play and I'm just suspicious but PLEASE, believe me, I know cheats when I see, and this was bullshit today. We Know for a fact that one of the hackers was under the name "gooby pls", after checking a body of one we killed. And we have a hunch that due to the obnoxious names that the hacker accomplices were named "G0taW00dy" and "StinkFinger" LINKS TO RELEVANT STUFF: VIDEO OF WHAT LITTLE FOOTAGE I CAPTURED DUING THE EVENTS. (I would have liked to record more, but it lags badly so I can't record as much as I'd like.) : http://youtu.be/PCMFWiMDaqc <--- Still uploading as I post this topic so give it an hour or so to finish the upload. SCREENSHOT OF ALL ONLINE PLAYERS WHILE THE EVENTS WERE GOING ON (We know it was 3 of these 50 players excluding Tortilla, Nanakai, and DuranB [thats us]): http://i.imgur.com/aGl73.png SCREENSHOT OF ELEKTRO ON FIRE from the crashed UH-1H: http://imgur.com/WcO6Z ANOTHER FORUM POST I MADE ON AUSARMA: http://www.ausarma.org/topic/1280-hacked-uh-1h-in-anz3-right-now-914-aest/ Any more info can be given if asked for, thanks for reading and please convict these assholes! they ruined my day today and I'm sure they've affected many others also. This crap must not continue to go unnoticed. Thanks in advance. might just add a TLDR:server ANZ 3, group of 3 hacker bandits spawning helicopters and vehicles and items. Also using wall hacks or player locating hacks to find people and kill them. total bullshit. needs to go.

    Trains...

if vehicles just magically spawn into the map, im sure we can come up with something for a train. it could be a diesel engine. Large Diesel barrels or drums instead of Jerry Cans, the wheels could be like car wheels without the rubber. scrap metal to repair the hull. its not that complicated. i think this is an awesome idea that isnt too far fetched at all. remember- Good Gameplay > Realism
  5. I have been thinking about what to do in DayZ now.. and the only conclusion is to kill other players. Military gear is too easy to come by, we have 7+ vehicles more tents than you can shack a stick at, and a want for .. well nothing.. apart from hunting for food and water. I have seen the post regarding bases and a possibility of a radio tower which would block a signal on a player spawning inside the broad cast area unless they had the security key perhaps. This made me think. What if the barracks and deer shoots only spawned ammunition (of all kinds) pistols and the occasional weapon.. However a basic weapon i.e. M4A1, AKs, or the M1014, and then only be a low spawn chance. Ok this would level the field.. Choppers would still give the odd high grade weapon..then I though well what do you do then? I started to think about ways to make a need for people to group up. One such though was a city, not like electo or cherny however, something along the lines of say, Atlanta from "The Walking Dead" TV show. Somewhere that was a MUST to go get the high grade items. Items like M4 SD, 50cal's, AK-74's or M16M203 along with the other items like NVG's and range finders entrenching tools and guns (M249/240). I understand that M16's and standard AK's are not high grade however compared to shotguns and pistols, they offer a bigger survival boost to yourself and your team. These places would be a military complex or a fortified base, hidden within a large tight city area were each building would spawn say 15-20 zeds, where, if you shoot you have to be organised as each unsilenced shot would attract well, your death if you didn't have enough ammo, or other players you can trust. You could have different sized "city's" so even random spawned survivors can group up and attempt to obtain something better than a double barrel. However, the high grade things were there for the larger groups of players that wish to put themselves in harms way to get the good stuff. Vehicles would not be able to enter the area, and to stop people running in and DC'ing you could have this "radio tower" jamming entry. Again this tower could also stop you from obtaining loot and dc'ing to escape the area, as your information is only updated outside the broadcast. So, 10 guys go into city, fight hard manage to make it to the military part loot the gear and then have to fight their way back, on exiting the area (instance) your loot is loaded up to the hive and you get to keep what you made it out with. You could also have it that if a player "dies" he is in a constant "knocked out" state however they get a chance for his group to drag him out the broadcast and administer first aid in order to keep him alive. Again there could be a Hospital which has high grade medical supplies that allow you to revive these fallen players, only inside the city areas as epipens will not do it. You could also make it that tinned food spawns only in high threat areas, or make food perishable, so you cant just horde it. i.e. raw meat last x mins/days, cooked meat last x amount longer. You could introduce twinkies, or other wrapped food that doesn't completely eliminate hunger so a constant need for looting is taking into account. that way bases set a long way out of towns in the forests have to be organised in order not to starve on the way out of camp or on the way back. These are just a few thoughts of mine which could make the game more interesting in the end game, again I understand these may not be to everyone's liking, I myself having no need for items in game would ready the challenge of being reset and having to hit a big city. (for those that will reply with "then go kill yourself, and respawn now" you need to go play pokemon and stop trolling) Please do add anything you think could enhance any of the ideas here, and also if you think of anything else. I will post an edit to this as an when I think of other ideas. I hope this is in keeping with your original idea of surviving Rocket. Keep up the good work guys.

    A week into DayZ

Well I started playing on Friday the 13th I believe, the first day was spent trying to find a couple of friends and dying over and over again. I did a lot of reading watched a lot of videos and since then I have a little squad. Sometimes it's me on my own until a friend gets online. Most of the time it's two of us getting owned by groups of bandits. I won't kill anyone unarmed, I won't kill someone with a secondary or melee weapon unless it's "Jason with the bloody axe". Me and a friend were in the control tower in Balota Air Strip waiting there for a friend to join us from Elektro, so while we are keeping an eye out on things making sure bandits don't come our way. I go down and see Jason with an axe, I was on TS with the friend, I said "Rice is that you with an Axe?" he started squemaing, no wait SHOOT HIM. I said no, Jason continued eerily looking at me, then he came at me with his axe. Funny thing is, I had an AKM and M1911. I was like dafuq? Funny thing he returns 10 mins later this time trying to get rice who had a M16. Well since then, I've been all over the place, spent a fair bit of time first 3-4 days in Cherno/Electro, recently we have been roaming about having BBQ's and going to the NW airbase, NE airbase, Stary Sobor. We are learning to survive against the bandit snipers, alt f4ers. I've seen 3 range finders, a few Coytoe backpacks, 1 Night vision goggle we took from a couple of snipers in Stary Sobor, and an AS50. We did lose them 2 hours later in the NE airstrip to 3 guys, who were surprisingly fast at getting back there after spawning so well equipped... I don't usually snipe, but I'm the scout sniper/counter sniper at the moment with a DMR, trying to learn the whole mil dot/zeroing thing. Well if anyone wants to join me in playing and my lil squad, (good things happen with us). We move around a lot, mostly north of the southern cities, berezino, stary, nw airbase etc, we might occasionally go down to meet our respawned buddies, if they had good stuff we protect it for them or pick it up. We don't REALLY share food or drink, but say someone had an extra primary weapon in the pack for the team (in our tents) which we do. Someone had 4 water bottles etc, we share. If someone is low on health we hunt boars and cows and make like 16 steaks and split them. Nothing formal just friendly fun. We are based in Europe, me and a couple of others in the UK, friends in Norway, Finland, France, Holland. So if you are european, have teamspeak wish to join us, send me a message. :) Usually we are in groups of 2-5, might be alone sometimes playing very safe, the biggest squad when everyone's on at the same time (weekends perhaps) we had a squad of 9. We have a couple of vehicles, hopefully well hidden... a few tents spread around. We learn quickly, and think about the game. Luckily we have a couple of players with over 200 hours on DayZ, I think i've clocked up at least 6 hours a day the last week, I think one day I was on 8 hours and went in to work with no sleep!
  7. Well, what can i say except that i am sad to see when people are leaving. I can't do much as to keep up and searching for my personal feeling the optimum configured server. Also i am still searching the reason why vehicles are de- and respawning after a couple of restarts.
  8. Good physics including ragdoll, vehicles and world objects. (much like demoed in Arma 3). Large amounts of damage should destroy character and zombie models. Missling limbs, flying meat chunks, oh quake 1 how I loved your tasty gibs.

    Camouflage nets

I had the idea of camouflage nets seeing how helicopters are a great way to find your camp and your vehicles etc. Great to conceal your camp and anything you don't want to get found. Also camouflage tents/nets IE a dome shaped camouflage net can also be effective at concealing your stuff from people not in the air. However will need to be big enough to park a pickup truck under. Also they should come in varying sizes. some concealing single tents (though maybe not nessesary because tents are already camouflaged but not enough since i find them with little problem) up to a helicopter. Such models are already in game such as the camo net behind the cheno hospital next to the fire places. they just need to be deployable in portable in a similar fashion as all other construction/fortifications in game. thoughts and opinions?

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

I'd like to question when the alt-f4, or force-quit, information is recorded. I don't want to end up with a bad rep because I was trying to join a friend's server. For example: I'm on server A, group of friends are on server B. I leave server A (normally, using abort) I join server B, but can't get past the loading screen after clicking "ok" to play - Since 'ESC' doesn't work, and I can't abort, alt-F4 or force-quit become my only option. I end up doing this maybe 3 or 4 times before giving up, then we all try a different server. (finding a well maintained server that doesn't get hacked often is a pain) I know that a player's character can show up in-game a bit before the player can actually play. So I guess I'm just wondering when it actually counts as "in-game"? Also, is it possible to add a counter (like in backpacks-> 12/20) to tents and vehicles to show how much inventory space is left?

Some toughts: Helicopters: they are one of the must funniest vehicles in the game when you do mainly PvP, i do admit that i had great moments with them on the private servers, BUT they disrupt the game on many levels. It's very hard to have a base camp at the moment, or even to save a single vehicle; but with the chop it is basically impossible. I would really like to discuss this before deciding to reintroduce back the helicopters, they doesn't really fit the mod. L84A2: i hoped for some days they really disappeared forever... but yesterday i found another one at an heli crash. What are we waiting to remove this thing from the game? This is OP, it's like cheating, stop finding excuses on realism and such.. when there's ppl running with hatchet you don't need to literally see trought the trees and foliage having animals and players highlithed in a brilliant white! It's like playing at "shoot at the duck".

    Why I kill.

Obviously there is a lot of heated discussion about player versus player in this game. I thought I might try to throw my opinion in so it too can be misinterpreted, disagreed with, flamed, and generally rejected by the community. I'm kidding, I hope you have something constructive to say in response. We're going to do this in list form because everyone loves lists, just look at VH1. Also, I don't feel like writing a proper essay and I feel like you don't want to read one. The reasons why I kill will be presented generally in order of most prevalent to least in accordance with my opinion. 1. Because I am good at it (or so I think) and I want to show it: My experience as a gamer has generally been that I can quickly and easily become skilled at games and compete with other players who are generally in the top 10-25% (generally, I have been as high as 1% in some ladders) of whatever game I choose to spend time on. In single player games I almost never play difficulties below whatever is one step above normal (heroic is as low as I go in Halo, for example.) So, when I kill you I want you to know that I have better reflexes, game knowledge, skill, etc. In the case that I am just far away in a sniper spot, it's not even skill so much as patience. I still want you to know that one way or another I got the upper hand on you. The reverse is true when a player kills me. I get the twinge in my brain that someone capitalized on my mistake and that I have to be better. This reason is also why I think the pvp prevention method of creating options that provide incentive to work in groups will not be as effective as people think. Guys like me will do our best to kill you regardless of how stacked the odds are against us. In fact, I love that shit. If I can kill you and your two buddies all by myself, then that makes me feel awesome. Also, I can just as easily rally my buddies who are of like mind and we will work together to kill you. 2. Because I want your stuff: The game is about survival. Even if I see you're only carrying a Makarov and have a czech vest pouch on your back. If I don't know you then maybe you've got a blood pack or some tool belt item that I don't have. Simply on the chance of you having a tool box when I don't is enough reason for me to want to kill you. This isn't just driven by survival, greed, and power seeking though. The first successful life I played lasted probably 15 hours of play and 3 days. I helped out other players a couple times with no betrayal but in the end I was killed by someone who got the drop on me. Since then I play much more aggressively and part of my gear gathering via player kill motivation has been that I am just trying to get back from some faceless dude what some other faceless dude took from me. 3. Because your existence is a threat: This is another survival thing. I don't want you to be strong enough to challenge me. I am going to knock you down whenever I can so that you have less chance of gathering the resources to be an immediate threat to me. This includes raiding your hoard sites for their supplies and then scuttling your stuff. 4. Because the thrill of PVP in this game is unlike anything I have experienced in gaming: Just seeing a player in the far away distance is enough to get my blood pumping. The cost of death is so high in this game that risking it in combat is exhilarating. When I am successful it is even more sweet. When I fail, I still take my trembling hands from the keyboard and mouse and smile because the experience is fun. 5. Because at this time there isn't much left to do, and I am okay with that: I could get with my friends or join a clan and we could come up with personal objectives like setting up camps or recovering vehicles, but where is the excitement at the end of those goals? Protecting your territory? Driving your truck? Nope, I am going to try to kill you. TL;DR is to the right of each number.

What is it with American kids hacking?

how do you know its not UK kids hating US kids? eitherway... its fucking annoying. just got killed on a US server again. I have not been able to stay in ANY server for more than an hour without seeing some sign of hacking (hacked in vehicles, guns, people using both of those, nukes, server wide kill scripts, or my new favorite... teleported to a roof for execution. Sadly there is no talking to hackers. They suck at the game and don't care about being good at this game or any. It is all entertainment. Let them hack though, they will never learn to play a game correctly by hacking and as such will always suck at games. If they say it's just a game and they don't care, then good, we can play without them. Rocket... fuck your current plate of shit to do. Fix hackers.
  14. Hakultair

    Vehicles

Take note that any hacked vehicles also dissapear on a server restart. So if you happen to find a vbehicle that someone else hacked it'll dissapear on the next restart.
  15. Aftershok

    Vehicles

Vehicles only respawn when left unused for a week, or if they are destroyed. Sometimes servers can restart to an earlier point and so vehicles are rolled back to a different point on the map, however, vehicles get stolen A LOT even when far away from any city; many people take time to search forests (particularly in the north) for camps and vehicles. A standard server restart should not, however, remove your vehicles, although it can remove them until the next server restart occasionally.
  16. Gogster (DayZ)

    Vehicles

Sometimes they disappear because of a glitch and they could come back when the server restarts or when you log back in, or they may be gone forever due to a bug - such is life in a game still in development. There's also a chance that someone found your vehicles and made off with them.

dramaticly low fps compared to arma 2

Hm wel played arma2 online with 64 guys and no lagg either with vehicles flying around the whole map

    Vehicle Repairs with Spawns

All vehicles have to be repaired and refueled before they can be used. For a bus you'll need 4 wheels, fueltank parts, scrap metal and engine parts, as well as a jerry can to fill it up a bit.

No Sir. I hate alt+f4'ers just as much. I just don't think that rocket's approach of solving the issue will work well. Like I said: I would hate it a lot to get in trouble for transporting loot from a car on server A to my tents on server B and from what I understand it is quite probable that things like that will happen when that logging stuff kicks in. I just did on the end of page 41 ;). So +1 on that. I agree in so far that I also think that fixing tents and vehicles should have higher priority than preventing people from dodging death. Cowards are cowards, the guy not getting the shot knows it and the alt+f4 deathdoger/ghoster knows just aswell that he simply is nothing but a cowardly scumbag that does not get that death is a part of the game and reacquiring your stuff is huge part of the fun. In contrast to that reappearing misplaced tents, tants loosing items and alle the other stuff regularly forces my squad and me to replace our camp or even switch servers. Yet I do not think that the priorities rocket takes will kill the mod. At this point seeing all the hype already created: I don't think anything (not even rocket quitting the project) could kill the mod.
  20. Last night, for the first time I played this game with a friend. It was probably the most intense gaming experience I have ever taken part in, in total I got shot down to near death twice, I killed 7 people and I didn’t even get out of Elektro. However, a few things happened that although didn’t ruin the experience, they didn’t exactly help it either. First of all. I found an ATV in Kamyshovo. “GET IN!” I thought. It looked to be in working order, there was no damage, the wheels were still on it. So, I sit on it, thinking I could go pick up my friend who was stuck in Elektro, then head towards our other guy coming from Cherno. This is the first time I have driven an ATV (although I did once find one on top of a mountain that I sat on but it was stuck on a rock) and when I tried to go forwards, the ATV started driving vertically into the sky, then it flipped over on its side. Annnnnnnnnd… that was that. Either I am dumb and I somehow drove an ATV wrong (although I don’t care how wrong you ride an ATV in real life, you won’t defy gravity :P) or a bug caused it to flip over. It was now unusable. I had no way of flipping it over. I’m not saying these ATVs are feathers… but I’m pretty sure a single man could muster up the strength to force it back onto its wheels. So I propose a vehicle flipping mechanism, but within reason of course. I, along with the next 900,000 people don’t want to see one guy flip over an entire bus. Maybe a CIV car could be flipped with 2-3 guys and the ATV flipped by 1 guy. (please bear in mind I am basing this suggestion on the basis that I don’t think this is already in the game, if it is already there please inform me how I do it and forget this part of the thread). The second occurrence that struck me as bizarre… Me and my friend went into the Church in Elektro, shut the door and had a snoop around for some ammo etc. My friend was guarding the door, and I was at the back towards the alter picking up some .45 rounds for my M1911, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere I was downed, bleeding and in dire need of painkillers. The door was shut, the windows are stained glass (and high up anyway), there was no one else in the room, I didn’t hear a gunshot, but I had been shot. There isn’t really a suggestion here, but I just wanted to put this out there as to why this may have happened? The third thing, we was in the fire station. I had to take out 2 guys just to get in there, and even so I knew there was a guy at the top of the tower. So, we shut all the doors and headed towards the stairs. I go up the stairs and he’s waiting at the top of the stairs with his hatchet, perched over waiting to get a hit on the top of my head. His hatchet was no match for my AK-74. Upon killing that fool, I noticed he possessed an Alice backpack. So, I informed my mate and he proceeded to collect this backpack while I moved down to the bottom of the building to watch the doors and make sure no one can get in. Turns out, some guy spawned right next to my mate and he thought it was me (as in, my mate thought the newly spawned guy was me). He stood there for ages just watching my mate try and pick up a backpack (he’s new to the game) and the whole time I didn’t know he was there, and my mate thought it was me. So you can imagine my friends confusion when he started getting axed to death. Of course, I went up the stairs again and avenged his death (this actually counted as a bandit kill so I feel no remorse). It’s kind of disappointing that my friend finally had all the stuff we needed before heading out, but was then killed because some guy spawned between us both. I have two suggestions on how to prevent this sort of thing happening, well 3 actually but one of them is a suggestion in its own right. a ) When a player spawns into the level, there should be a pointer that they just spawned, not something saying “AXEBANDIT HAS SPAWNED IN FIRESTATION” but a visual aid, I’m not sure what exactly, maybe their name shows up with them for 3-5 seconds when they spawn (thus influencing people to log out in safe places) or maybe they spawn greyed out for a few seconds. b ) Don’t allow people to spawn inside buildings. (although I’m fairly sure this has been suggested in the past). When you think about it, in real life everyone looks different and people don’t magically spawn in from nowhere. So this is a unique problem to a game (this game, rather), unfortunately it is difficult to fix a game’s problem without adding a ‘non-realistic’ feature to counter it. The fourth suggestion is all about recognition. I would like to see some kind of system that shows other players in the world just how long your character has survived and what they have been through. Those nice clean civ clothes? Well, they should be getting blood stained. The character should be growing a beard, getting bruised, clothes being torn, bandages showing, mud around the bottom of their trousers from the storms. Imagine, seeing your character battered up after a long and rewarding play through? There is a reason in just about all movies the characters are always battered and bruised by the end, it adds authenticity. If I scramble away from being attacked and bleeding by a horde of zombies, I am not going to be in pristine condition. If this existed, players would be more likely to recognise their friends. Of course, finding a new set of clothing such as camo would clean up the character. I think that should just about do it for now. PS. The other guy I mentioned who was coming from Cherno, I asked “where are you anyway?” He replies… “Berezino”. He just ran across the entire map whilst me and the other guy where in Elektro lol. (TL;DR - Flipping vehicles, dying from a magic bullet, killed by a teleporting axe murderer and visible damage to character)

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

How about a full tent/vehicle wipe after the tents are fixed? Save me the time running through all the servers leveling all tents and shooting up all the vehicles I can find. :P

buffing and nerfing need in dayz

Buff: - Amount of land vehicles on the map, not too much though. - Zombies aren't deadly enough, there needs to be a reason for people to group up, these things just aren't that big of a threat. Nerf: - Ammo should be VERY hard to come by, not to the point where you find one clip for the thing like once a day, just make it hard and give you a good reason to group up so there's people with different guns, so there's more ammo for the group. - Food is pretty easy to come by if you know where to look, could use a little bit of nerfing sense it's able to be found everywhere pretty much. - Zombies and their zig zag pattern, along with wall and door walking.

    What path should I take?

I made friends by offering a guy a free AS50 and a show (We blew up the Elektro hospital) Since then we have helped eachother's groups out and traded vehicles :0

    Vehicle scavenging in DayZ.

As said I am no progamer, just a gamer who knows what he would love to see in a game(So if it isn't possible I could live with that, but then I at least uttered my opinion). I would guess that giving each wreck in the game the posibility to be repaired, could get messy in the end. Just picturing 5 cars pers players, worst case scenario, unless I totally missunderstood you that is! Although on the server where you have over 100 players I can see how that would be a major upside, as then it would actually be possible for most people to drive a car during their time in DayZ. Hence why I was thinking of only scavenging some parts from a few selected vehicles around the map. As then you wouldn't get more cars, you would only get more parts and in a more likely place than some of the places you find them now. I also have to edit myself a bit, as I came up with a more elaborated idea during sleeptime =)
  25. Hello. I'll start of by saying that I couldn't find any post with this specific topic nor suggestion in the forum, but I could have missed it in the forum ocean. If I did and this is already posted, I do apologize. But on the other hand, if it isn't, I truely believe that this is a great idea. I see a lot of vehicles around in Chernorus which aren't useable in any way, they are just there as a part of the enviroment. But even if they aren't usable nor scavengable, they should at the very least be scavengable in my opinion. I'm not just pointing at items like food, mags, weapons etc. I'm thinking more in the way of car parts. I mean, you walk around with a toolbox, you see a car and open the hood to scavange for the sparkplugs you miss for your own car. Just as you can shoot boars and take their meat and chop down wood for your fireplace, you should be able to pick a car for it wheels. It would also be a more suited place to find a wheel than in some random barn with loads of hey. Even if a car isn't whole and it looks all broken down, there should be parts like a windshield, fuelpump, engine etc. in the cars. Of course not all gathered in one car as then you could just have driven away with that car. But if you went to Cherno, found a car and took its windshield for then to move up to Vybor and scavange a wheel from another vehicle there. I would have done that if I had the chance + it's at your own risk with zombies and players all around who could pin you while you're on your knees loosening a wheel. Also the idea of scavanging for possible weapons and/or food or medicaments wouldn't be that unlikely, as these things could be lying around in the cars. Just imagine a humvee got overrun by zombies, the guys inside wouldn't have time to pick up everything and legg it or they faced death inside the car after it being breached. There could be the occasional chance of finding weapons, ammo, medical supplies and such in the humvees at least and lesser loot in others cars. Just imagine yourself fleeing the city, you'd try to find a gun, food, clothing and pack it in your car for then to drive of, But something happens and you have to legg it or fight your way out of the car, you don't turn around to pick up your clothes, food, backpacks and maybe even map. No, you just legg it and leave everything except what you already got on you behind. Even if this would up the drop rate of food, parts, weapons etc. It would be risky to scavenge the vehicles, so it wouldn't make it easier in any way, other than giving you a better chance of finding the items you need. As you wouldn't be protected underneath a storage roof, you'd be out in the open where you could be easily spotted by zombies or players and very easily pinned down. I'm no programing wizard, so I wouldn't know how this would affect the perfomance, requirements or if it's even possible. It's just a thought from my side as that would also lead people away from the bigger cities a bit more, rather than having all the blood hungry players stuck in there, as they know that's the only place people could go for the items/parts they need. This would also force players whos only goal is to kill other players to expand their grid and search for "hotspots" of vehicles to lurk around instead. I do hope I managed to capture everything I wanted to cover with this post, if I didn't, I'll be back to do it once I got my head around this wall of text. Feel free to work further on this, as I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking in this direction. And yet again, if this have already been suggested, I'm truely sorry, but it should have been marked better in that case. Thank you for your time. -Vinyard *Edit* To make the whole idea with using parts from enviromental cars more risky, I have a couple of way to make people want to think twice. First of, like you check a body for the cause of death ro pulse, you should then be able to check the cars "Look for parts". This should take a minute or two, just to make it more risky to stand there. Also once you found those engine parts you've been dying to find, it doesn't take 5 seconds to loosen the nuts and bolts, you would get a progress bar and the whole operation would take a couple of minutes or more. This would make the whole situation nerve wrecking and actually give those who go in groups a major advantage, since one person could be the helpful mechanic while he's being protected by his group. To me that sounds awesome at least, I'd piss my pants if I were in the midst of the street of Cherno taking my engine parts. I also think that if you stood there for half the duration of the progress but have to abort it for now, due to a zombie or a human, you should be able to take cover, go back when it's safe and continue where you let it go. This would also make it quite risky as you could very well be loosening an engine part for another player, who puts a bullet in your head right before your done or after. =) For the vehicles you can already drive around, as far as I know you can only put in engine parts and such, not take them out. But it would make it a whole lot interesting if you found a camp which had several vehicles, instead of shooting everything you scavange the parts and make them unusable to other players untill fixed again. Would that be hard to do at the very least? Being able to remove the parts you already put in to use in another car or just to sabotage another gorups car?
