So... Does anyone in the UK want to give me and my friends a vehicle? :P
Lorenzo_VI posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles are hard to find as most clans use them :P Me and my friends want to find a vehicle but checking their spawns has been fruitless so far. I suspect there is 20 man bandit clans currently holding them somewhere. This is a big ask :P But anyone wanna hand over a vehicle? If you got a spare car around we'd be happy to take it off your hands. I don't think anyone will offer and I suspect if they do = bandit trap but meh worth a try no? :D -
US 155 / 156 - Kansas 1 & 2 - official n0ob servers thread
Kurian replied to JeffCraig's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, I'm hoping to god that's not the case, because I logged in earlier this morning while it was pitch black out, and I couldn't find either my van or off-road pickup. Was assuming I was disoriented in the dark, but now I'm worried I just lost two fucking vehicles. Also, the server is down for me again, so it's hard for me to verify that I just got raped. -
indeed, you will need multiple trucks to store the equipment in to build such things, which means its a huge operation requiring at the very least 5 people to make work. and even then with the amount of greenery on the map, even if they spent all week building they wouldnt take up much space. you could also limit it so that these constructions can only be built on the grass land (which are overly plentiful) which means its a good way to take up space. you also have to consider that in a server with 40 people, only 14 on average will ever be working on constructing vehicles oh any kind, if that. which means that even less are likely to make an entire fortress which, lets be honest, will only serve as a tiny spec on the map each.

The ATV sounds nice but we are unlikely to have anything to pay you with (unless you count gratitude and some sardines as payment) :P I realise that finding vehicles is extremely difficult :) But we've done the exploring, tried our hand at banditry (well we tried but we let all the people who had nothing good on them go), been to some hotspots and now we feel like finding a vehicle is the next logical step! -

Myshkino and Novy Lug: two of the most over looked areas. Myshkino spawns white, two passenger, off road pick up truck (needs everything-tires,engine parts, fuel parts, and gas) can drive though with just gas and tires, just don't hit anything or you will blow up and die. Novy Lug spawns fully repaired motorcycle (bring gas can because it is almost empty) 6 out of 10 times if you go to those areas you will find those vehicles. Hate to say it, but if you go those areas and they are not there, server hop, you will find one. -
V3S Civilian losing all loot?
GeordieMarv replied to DigitalPsycho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You have to resave vehicles ANYTIME you put something in them. Add a new item to the vehicle inventory...save the vehicle...add another new item...save it again etc. -
There really are no in-game incentives to murder or let live. Take a look at the three pillars and how they relate to murders: Loot, Kill, Survive. The act of killing offers no reward and goes without penalty for enacting upon others indiscriminately. At the "endgame", there is no gameplay need to kill others aside from the simple pleasure of it. Survival is all about avoiding conflict early on. You could slay TO survive, but not for long. Once you have the means to survive, you are the hunter and everyone else is surviving. There needs to be a reason to either help them survive or leave them alone. Loot is the driving force of player kill. Take meta gaming and grouping with friends out of the picture here. The core gameplay element is to engage other survivors and fight over it or you hunt others to acquire or prevent them from having it. If all experiences can be derived from the loot then by modifying how loot is handled in the game to give broad incentives against killing outright. Dynamic loot that is based on kills, murders, and no-killing, could change how players act in the game. Especially if they have to consider that their actions impact their rewards. This can be done by tweaking the loot with modifiers. These numbers are arbitrary but the idea is: the more an item has a chance to spawn, the less everything else does. 1. For every player murdered: Quality weapon ammunition -10% chance to spawn (sniper rounds especially) 2. For every player killed (zombie or otherwise) : Consumables & Equipment +5% chance to spawn 3. For every hour a player is not killed or murdered: Junk +6% chance to spawn 4. If all zombies on server are alive when spawn: 5% chance of nothing spawn 5. Ratio of zombies killed/alive = % of non-junk loot spawn 6. Longer stretches of no-kill/deaths increase spawns of: heli's, transports, group items 7. Higher murder/kill ratios increase spawns of: personal vehicles, ghillie suits, survival items In case 1, if a player is murdered and already has a murder count (bandit), the modifier is not applied In cases 1&2 vs 3: The opposing events would reverse eachothers effects, tipping the scale over time. In all cases, the effects can accumulate up to a set % The theme here would be to award high kill pvp with survival/stealth gear and CQC combat. New players get extra survival gear spawns to increase lifespans. On low kill pvp servers, award community efforts and long range transport/weaponry for overwatch and protection geared towards clearing zombies and taking out bandits. On empty servers, it behooves you to hunt others and kill them. On a complete anarchy server, sniper rounds and top quality weapons would have to be conserved. Seeing someone with a good gun means they're worth killing for their ammo. Seeing someone with lesser weaponry may not be worth killing if it risks your chance of spawning ammo. On a total pacifist server, while everyone is happy and singing campfire songs and reveling in a post-apocalyptic paradise, they're depleting their resources by flooding the spawns with junk. Killing one another for supplies will be inevitable. In all situations, killing zombies will benefit everyone. Saving others from zombies is now a bonus. In the end the rules could be anything, as long as it provided a balance both for and against pvp. To give it meaning within the game mechanic. Lastly........ To communicate this all to the player? When you log into a server, in addition to the location of and day, there can be a report of “<Hour> since last survivor murder” “0 Hours since last reported murder” you know things are probably bad. “4 hours since…” you know things are relatively safe. “12 hours since….” polish that rifle and kill the first survivor you see cause you aren't going to find anything but junk in stores. (this may dissuade empty servers at night if no on has been murdered in hours and no one is killing zombies...double bonus?) EDIT: renamed topic

This game will fail long term if the PK problem isnt addressed
E M P replied to Gadget (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
PvP has its place, but it gets pretty tiresome to have KOS as my only [realistic] option when interacting with strangers. Many people have said that players who want PvE should go play Left4Dead et al. These games are not much like DayZ. They do not have a gigantic world full of realistic terrain, with zombies roaming about and all kinds of fun loot to try to steal. They don't require the player eat and drink and assemble vehicle parts etc etc. Why should the devs make strong PvE options? Because if they don't, the competition will. If the competition offers more for the same price, who will want DayZ? Counterstrike has surfing servers, servers for huge numbers of players, and 5v5 tournaments [just using counterstrike because someone brought it up]. You don't get the 5v5ers complaining constantly that other players who just want to surf have that option... It's not asking much. Just promise [you don't even have to implement it immediately] that a goal of the devs is to build stronger PvE, and then get there as the alpha turns into beta turns into the final product. "The zombies are too easy to kill for PvE to be fun." Well duh... so ramp up the challenge of the zombies. Make them soak bullets and swarm in numbers. Limit our ability to run, the supplies of guns and ammo, and the amount of light indoors. There's plenty of room for improvement in the PvE area without compromising the fun of PvP. "It's supposed to be a realistic sim." That might be the claim, but it's not. It's a game. It's not even close to realistic, and it never will be. This is a good thing! Games have someone designing them; real life is just random and unfair and unfun. If you made a truly 'realistic' game, nobody would play it. You couldn't shoot accurately, and nothing would respawn, and you'd probably go insane from boredom because you couldn't log out to go take a shower. So piss off. There's no such thing as a 'realistic' sim in the sense you're using it. The only thing that's realistic here is the physics engine, and even that has issues. I happen to enjoy a fair bit of PvP, but I'd like it more if it was organised around clan fights, rather than negging [killing people who have just spawned], as the majority of PvP seems to be at present. Fighting over good items that don't respawn, or for pieces of valuable territory, like forts, is great. Sitting on a hillside 1km away from Cherno and shooting un- or lightly-armed people as they forage for food is just masturbation. "But you could just shoot back." Ya... I could be forced to play a certain way because someone else insists on being a dick to me... but I guess that's not really the 'play the way you want to play' mentality of a sandbox. And frankly, my system [gpu and cpu] isn't the best, so I have trouble running Arma2 at settings high enough for effective PvP combat. What I CAN do is sneak about. If I get the drop on someone, I can shoot them. Otherwise, not a chance. So I'd appreciate having more PvE that I could do with my friends, where the emphasis is on competent handling of a problem I KNOW how to solve, rather than the randomness of some douche logging in and shooting me from a spot I've already checked... I'm not angry, though. The only thing that has me annoyed is the hacking issues my home server has been experiencing lately. US914 has seen people hacking in items and vehicles, esp/aimbotting, and mass-teleport-followed-by-slaughtering. Otherwise, I'm just waiting to see what will come next. If another game [on a better engine?] comes along that offers what DayZ doesn't, I'll switch. If Rocket doesn't want my money, that's fine by me! -
the scope is OP because of the thermals and because of the dupe bugs there are tents and vehicles all over the servers with them in.

The ability of players to build underground bases. Locked bases with a code that is only breakable only with a rare maybe code hacking machine in the game. If the base been hacked from some players the player who has the base must be able to do something about this, cause if the other players hacked already one time the base, they will do it again and again and the base will not be a safe place for the clan or a player. If there is not a hacking machine item maybe the way for other players to invade the base is to wait for the others to appear outside the base and threat them for the code… Or,… if it is an underground base should have a pipe for the air so the others inside can breath. If the enemy find the base, it should be able to put a poison gas grenade inside the pipe to bring the others out of the base… The ability of players to have their metal death tag in their inventory till their death. The player who kill someone must be able to keep this metal tag locked with his character even after his death. Another ability for none bandit players could be medals of honor or something if the players help eatch other and don’t kill on site. Also this, must be locked with the player id even after his death. Another 2 huge maps like Chernarus could make this game much better… Maybe maps with rivers… Camo Vehicles Helmets / bulletproofs A more stable first person view with better aiming while moving… The murders must be locked with player id even after his death If the player isn’t a bandit, when he dies maybe he could have a benefit if he goes to the church when he respawns. Maybe a pray in the church should give him the half of his gear or something :D , .. if not his half gear back , maybe just a weapon and an alice pack. :beans:

US 45 Demolished building nxs clan hacking/cheating
nXs-Dream replied to napalmx9's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As I have stated already, we do not hack. We enjoy this game as much as the rest of you I'm sure. We are not a clan of trolls from the depressing depths of the internet here to ruin anyone's fun. http://nexus-gaming.biz/index.php We also have a youtube channel, facebook, and twitter. If you think we aren't serious about gaming you clearly have your head up your ass. But back to the point. Our team works for everything we get so if you kill us with an as50 it's one we've taken off of a survivor, or found at a helicopter crash. As far as the crooked happenings in that server go, we had nothing to do with it. Yes, I am nXs-Dream, and I can speak for my team when I ask you politely to stop accusing us of this blatant douchebaggery. We do not nuke servers. We do not hack in weapons or vehicles. All we do is find guns and kill people, who then get mad and post nonsensical, flimsy reports on the forums about us. So please, grow up and stop smearing our name. -

ZedsDeadBaby replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Listen, dude; we're having a discussion. You seem a lot more interested in my post count than I am. I like DayZ. I participate in the forums. A lot. I'm not throwing my post count in anyone's face, nor am I particularly proud of it. It just is. So you can kindly get off my dick about it and focus on the discussion, okay? Other games make everything 1,000x easier. That's precisely why DayZ is amazing. Other games make finding your way around easy by giving you an awesome in-game map with flashing icons and arrows and a built-in compass. Other games make it easy to identify friends and enemies so you always know who's who. Other games make it easy to chat with anyone anywhere in the world any time you want. Other games make it easy to determine what your goal is and what the next step is toward reaching it by adding quests and waypoints and objective indicators. Other games make it easy to recover after dying, either by reloading a recent save or spawning at a forward control point. Other games make finding vehicles easy by making them infinitely respawn every 10 seconds in the same spot over and over and giving them inifnite fuel. DayZ is not other games. That's precisely what makes it so compelling and amazing. It breaks the status quo and does things differently and it doesn't apologize for that. It rubs it in your face and sometimes it makes you angry and frustrated, but that's something, isn't it? That's something besides just sitting there slack-jawed occasionally adjusting your balls when they start to tingle. So, yeah, when people show up guns blazing saying "Make DayZ like other games!" I stand and face because that's the last thing DayZ needs. rocket has carved out a niche for DayZ precisely by saying "I'm going to do things differently and if you don't like it tough shit." And that's awesome. No major publisher or developer has been willing to do that in the online gaming space in 15 years and speaking as someone who has been playing online games since 300 baud modems were all the rage, I can tell you it's pretty exciting. Yes, as a matter of fact. I do enjoy the time alone right after spawning. If nobody is available to pick me up in a vehicle, I don't sprint directly to my friends. I take my time and plan a route that passes through some safe but lootable areas like medium value farm buildings, deer stands, or the outskirts of major settlements if I think I can skirt by without attracting attention. This way, by the time I do reach my friends I usually have a few bandages, maybe a blood bag or two, a Winchester and a backpack. That way I'm actually useful to my friends instead of just being an extra mouth to feed. In this economy? More people are every day. If you had been in that situation, you might have a litlte more sympathy. But, I'm not; I have a full time job and a family. I also have hobbies other than DayZ, believe it or not. At any rate, you don't need an "infinite amount of time" to travel to anywhere on the in-game map. Absolute worst case scenario you die somewhere like the NWAF and spawn in Solichniy. That's still only ~10km, or 5km run if your friends meet you halfway. You sprint 5m/s so you can run 5km in 15 minutes which is slightly less than an infinite amount of time. Well, for one because I'm an arrogant asshole. I would say I'm sorry, but I stopped apologizing for that when I was a teenager. But, more to the point I get a little touchy when I see people calling for changes and additions to the game that already exist because it speaks to a lack of willingness to use the tools at your disposal to accomplish your tasks and goals in the game - which is the essence of sandbox gameplay. My group realized very quickly the value of having a way to quickly pick up new spawns on the coast, so we worked hard until we acquired a motorcycle and now we use that motorcycle almost exclusively as a death retrieval machine. It has made probably two dozen trips from ~Devil's Castle down to the coast and has helped us recover countless dead bodies. It's very satisfying when you spawn alone on the coast and a few minutes later hear the buzz of that engine coming over the hill toward you... So it's frustrating after putting the effort and planning in to accomplish this to see someone come along and say "rocket really needs to add a way for us to meet up with friends faster!" It's like it's right there waiting for you! Go use it and let rocket focus on things that the game doesn't already have. -
Will they re-appear in the next few server restarts? I know I've had tents completely vanish, and I've had vehicles completely vanish...and 1 to 4 days later, everything reappears again. Is that true for items? Or are they gone forever? Guess tents are rather buggy (like I've been reading, but never really had a problem till now). Luckily, I only put in items I didn't really need into it...did lose some AKM ammo, but ah well.

Oh the reason we could walk with broken bones is because the hacker broke our bones while we were in vehicles, and for some reason we could still walk. Or at least I think that is what happened.

I play on several different servers i have vehicles and loot on each i can't take the cars trucks bikes or bicycles with me. same should be for the loot. if you want to have a consistent server then rent one. the best part of the game is finding the loot. and that is just an opinion though. going to a different server and starting fresh will keep loot farmers and server hoppers out. It sucks to be in a server at a prime time when no one is on and i run all the way to NW airfield for two hours watching people log in and out log in and out get to the NW airfield and see that it has been looted out by hoppers. -

No, but It seems like you and others are expecting the wrong things out of this game. Arma/Dayz isn't like every other FPS game on the market. Arma is a tactical military similation and DayZ doesn't have a cleary defined genre. It's a persistant world survival/horror/RP shooter with a very strong emphasis on realism. No triple AAA FPS is like it. It plays nothing like Call of Duty, even Battlefield these days is just glorfied TDM with flags and vehicles. Those games are super fast pased, action heavy pick up and play games on small maps. This isn't L4D with magical resurrection closets. If you come to this game expecting any of that you just don't get it. The idea of a squad spawning system is ludicrous, the risk of dying is simply that. That character is dead. The reason you are dead is because you make a mistake, next time try not to make that mistake. -

DrHellNo replied to Gadget (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Exactly, I also want to add that the devs have said the game isn't meant for private (or self-contained) experiences, and that is exactly what a PvE DayZ would be. You and your buddies running around, killing glitchy zombies, farming loot and vehicles, all for what? Nothing, because without player interaction from players other than your own group you are missing out entirely on what the devs want to accomplish with this project. -
If I put items in a tent...and they disappear...
Vendayn replied to Vendayn's topic in New Player Discussion
yup I did. That was first thing I did after putting items inside. I hope they come back when server restarts. I've had tents (and vehicles) do the magic disappearing and reappearing trick...then come back after a couple resets or so. -

WalkerDown (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Certain weapons, tools, vehicles doesn't works well into this game because (whenever we not aim for the balancement) they heavily unbalance the gameplay. In example a nuke exists (you can see those missles used by hackers), but we won't have it (in a legit way) for obvious reasons. The helicopter let you scan the map (even without the radar) in minutes, making the whole idea of "hiding" a tent or a vehicle (even far away from the common routes) basically impossible, especially by when they removed the possibility to park a vehicle off-map. If you just started to play now, you believe the map is very big... but it's not, it's big only if compared with a traditional game, but it is "only" 15x15Km ... it is extremely small if you scan it with a chopper. First: it is the L85A2 .. i'm not sure what's the L84. Btw.. it's its thermal view to be "OP", not the bullet power (it uses the normal STANAG, like the M16). -

Simple Suggestions that have already been suggested just standing behind them. Make every server you enter have you start off fresh. That will eliminate server hoppers staying in one spot and going server to server to get prime loot. I have on a few occasions spent hours getting to a prime loot spot up north scouting the rooms find it empty only a few seconds later have someone magically appear and kill me. Every server starts you off new. DC'ers want to stop them? here is a suggestions. ALT+F4 should instantly kill you. "what if i loose connection" well the game knows the difference between the two. it tells you when you are loosing connection with a yellow or red broken link. what about people that pull their internet cable to make it appear as if they "lost" connection? well there isn't much that can be done about that. They will DC by pulling the cable wait a few day's go back in and avoid danger. Rocket I would like to see claymores. That would be a lot better than bear traps or wire fencing in my opinion. but make them like the helicopters only allow a certain amount of them at a time. Also how about a different type of game mode. For instance it would be cool if there was a server where you had to register on with up to lets say 100 people. once the map starts with that 100 people no one is allowed in. On that server there is only X amount of loot, guns, and vehicles. if you want to eat and all the beans are gone you have to hunt. once all the ammo is gone it is gone until an ammo drop is randomly made. loot should never respawn on this type of gameplay so it can't be farmed by emptying a building then waiting around till it respawns. -

Yeah. Like multi-passenger vehicles! That would be awesome. I can hardly wait which is good since I don't have to. -
I have 1600 rounds on me and 3200 more in my tent. I think I can spare a few for your vehicle. And if you're referring to the bug that allows destroyed vehicles to return, rest assured it will be fixed long before car keys are added to the game.
