Because each each vehicle there takes around 3 to fill up, and theres no point leaving them behind when you've got plenty of space in your vehicles.

[Video] [Tutorial] Lazy DayZ - Episode 07: ArmA 2 Editor Tutorial
rupertpupkin74 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
A very easy way to practice using scopes, weapons and vehicles on the DayZ (Chernarus) map. Enjoy! -
I've played video games for over 14 out of my 17 years, as the time flowed, I grew, became more intelligent, and more wise. The same could be said for my video game life, I grew as a gamer, opened my horisions and saw many different kinds of games, game play, and story telling. My gaming skill grew, and my two strongest points are FPS and Adventure, and I learned a lot about how to play games.Never give up, even if a level seems completely impossible. It took me three weeks to beat a boss monster in Final Fantasy X, and it drew my family nuts. But eventually (after I learned to actually add enhancements to my character...) I beat it, and it felt good to do it on my own. (well, someone showed me now to add the enhancements, but the battle it self was on my own.) I would always find a tough spot in a game, Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1, (and two yeah... but one? *shudders*) beating Halo 3 on legendary, and other challenges that the devs would always throw at us. I always over came them, and I always did it with no help. But then I played games like GTA, and PC games, games with cheat codes of having a developers console. Getting things early, or having invincibility, or just flying through a level, or just skip it all together. Games like GTA that had cheat codes were either not that much around, or I was completely unaware of them because of my lack of internet. (I used it time to time but, it wasn't until 2006 when I really became a part of my life... Ah, online pornography...) So if there no cheat codes in a game, that meant that I had to put time and effort into completing levels and such. But not GTA, all I had to do was just use the health code to instantly heal myself: R2 L1 R1 UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT. Even years after using that code, I still remember it completely because I used it so much. I used it through missions, and I barely died because of it. I mean they are very generous with the health they give you already, but with that cheat, It just makes you nearly invincible! So I put no effort or time into completing the missions. I never even thought about it, I can't think of one time I actually tried to beat a single level in GTA (Besides 4) without using a single cheat. It just was so easy, and being so powerful, it made me feel great. But it was never as good as the feeling as beating that monster that took me three weeks, or Sephiroth, that felt legitimate and actually rewarding. And the success from cheating? It felt fake, and short celebrated, and it was. Games became easy, too easy. I even became sort of upset when there were no cheats in a game like GTA, because I was so used to cheating that real effort seemed much harder. And because I cheated so much, now when I play games online, I constantly get crushed, because a lot of the practice I spent on the PS1, 2 and gamecube, was wasted on cheating. And people who actually spent time and effort into games, were so much superior.Games these days barely, and if at all have cheat codes, but there's another thing that makes us put no time or effort into games: strategy guides. Even before I used the internet I used those guides, Showing me where all of the best things in the games were, what weak spots to attack, and other things, if I have just a little trouble, I always run to the computer to either look up strategies, or codes. But when I played the PS1, I never did that, I didn't even knew others could. And yet, I was always able to beat the games I played. I might have sucked, but I completed it never the less. Recently when I played games like Limbo, I tried to complete as much as I could without using a strategy guide, and I made it to the near end of the game (like 90%) but then I used a guide, and the end was not as rewarding as it should have been. Same thing for GTA 4, on my second playthrough, I decided to be a man and try to beat the game with no cheats. It was tough, but I finality made it to the last level. Then it became too hard, I tried, and tried and tried, but after two days, I said screw it and brought out the cheats. Again, not so rewarding at the end. Cheat codes is a luxury, and like a lot of luxurious things we have in life it spoils us, and teaches nothing, if not, then anything good in our lives. So now I come to yesterday, I've been playing DayZ for the past few weeks and I had a blast. Interacting with others, being in a group, getting great loot, It was a whole new experience, and I just loved every moment, good or bad. Until recently. I was doing really good I had the M4A1 CCD SD, all equipment (besides GPS and NVG) and enough food and water and ammo to last me a while. And I did it all on my own, no cheats or anything. Then, it happened. I had two camping tents and a whole lot of stuff and I was going to a part of the map to pitch and hide them. Little did I know that swimming in water can make you lose your items. When I got half way, I noticed my ALICE backpack was gone. And when I got to shore, my ALICE backpack, M4A1, and items in the main 12 slots were gone. And boy was I pissed, I was doing so well, I was even going to commit to holding down a place, and then, all gone, all of those hours, gone in a flash. I was in denial and hope that reconnecting to a different server would fix it, but it didn't, those weapons we're gone. After many failed attempts of retrieving my stuff, I logged off and went to bed, hoping to awake to a better tomorrow. In the morning I got up, eat, then played the game again. Still gone. Then I had an idea. Now, I am telling the truth, I have never hacked a game before, and I have never used anything to have an unfair advantage over other players that was outside of the games rules and limitations. But losing so much progress because of a glitch in a glitchy game, and that fact that no one could do anything about it, sorta set me off. I wasn't mad at anyone, not Rocket or anyone on thh Dev team, they arn't gonna take the time to help one person when so many other are in need, both in my situation and in the whole thing of the glitches needing to be fixed. I was just mad at the situation I was in. I wanted instant gratifications, I wanted back the stuff I had now! But there was no way the devs could do anything, and asking another player for some stuff? You'd be shot before you could get the chance to talk to them. So I turned to the one thing when you're on your own, Hacks.I went on youtube and looked around, and it came up first. It was a video about this guy showing how to hack the game. For us non cheaters (yeah, spoiler alert I hung up my short lived hacking days.) For those who do not cheat, he was nice enough to only put out the hacks for getting anything you wanted, and nothing like vehicles, or aimbots or invincibly. And frankly that's all I wanted, I just wanted the weapons and items I had left. So I followed the instructions and started up the game, I pressed on the commands, and poof, there was a box. And in the box, was every single item in the game, The weapons, the ammo, equipment, the med equip. the food, drinks and backpacks, and there was 100 of each, the whole nine yards was mine for the taking. So I got what I think I had back... and I took a GPS and a ghillie suit. I felt like I should have gotten something for losing all of my stuff because of a glitch. The other part of me told me that I shouldn't, but screw that, I got hacks (more like scripts but it's cheating all the same). So I said so long. After pitching the tents, It felt kinda empty and boring, just two tents, and I placed them far away from any towns or loot able places, and it would take along time to fill them both up by going back and forward. There was the hacks, but I swore that I would never use them again. But I mean, why not just use a little more. I re-inputted to commands and spawned another box, then I took some weapons, food and water and put them in the tent. But I didn't stop there, so I decided to build a defense, I made two walls of wire fences and sandbags for defense. It wouldn't stop humans from walking in, but it made it a lot easier for zombies. After that, I walked along and actually found a boat. Besides a bike, I had never found a vehicle before, and was excited to go to places faster than ever before. So, obvously taking advantage of the situation, I used the scripts to spawn another box to fill it up completely. After realizing that the boat was a complete piece of s**t, I hoped off and went to talk and find a real car. I lost connection however, and when I tried to get back on, a message came up saying: Global Ban. So, that was the end, the short lived script cheating. Yes I regret it of course, I'm just glad it didn't affect anyone negativity. I mean, I didn't kill anyone, I didn't destroy anything that belong to someone, the only person who suffered from this is me, and that's the way it should be. To end this, I want to apologize to Rocket, the rest of the Dev team, everyone who has about the game and played fairly, and everyone in the forms who doesn't cheat for using scripts to cheat in this wonderful, innovative game. And I want you to know that I will no longer do anything to make video games easier. Whether it being unneeded help, codes, or going beyond the limitations of the game to exploit it. From now on I'll play the game fairly, to truly challenge myself to better myself as a gamer. Even if I lose out right, or even if it takes me so much longer than the average time to complete something, it's always. ALWAYS better than using things like scripts, hacks, cheats or guides to get through it easier and not caring that you're just pussying out and not to learn a god damn thing. I never want to do that again. Never. I'm actually glad I did this, I learned something that I should have learned along time ago, and I hope I this story taught you guys the same lesson I learned. If I ever be able to get back on DayZ, then I'll be more than grateful, and I'll try harder than ever to survive, no hacks, scripts, or cheats at all, and this goes for every single video game I will ever play for the rest of my life. This is a lesson to be learned, and to be remembered. Former Script user -Digital_Insanity EDIT: -I said it 1000 times and I will say it again. I. Do. Not. Want. To. Get. Unbanned. This post is about a lesson for everyone, not for sympathy, fame, or unbanning, please stop brinnging this up. -At the time when I used the hacks, I did not know that losing your stuff in the water was a legitimate factor in the game, it makes sense now, and it's all cleared up for me. -Stop bringing up Bronies, that's just sad and pointless, I will no longer respond to any posts about it.

Wasn't gonna leave our vehicles.

There is nothing left in that camp, we looted it dry. The server restarted 2 days after that find and our tent and 2 vehicles dissaperaed, im pretty sure its atlanta 33 though. The m9sd isnt as good as some people think. It take 3-4 body shots and the magazines are really hard to find, the m1911 or glock(if you play on night servers) is the way to go.

I have a tent in my inventory and I am afraid to use it... as it is the only one I have ever scavanged and the bugs worry me. I hear people can run them over with vehicles and you loose everything?

US 155 / 156 - Kansas 1 & 2 - official n0ob servers thread
Kurian replied to JeffCraig's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
False alarm. So DayZ Commander shows the server as not responding with 10000ms. If you joined the server anyways it's fine, it's up and running. Oh and I have both of my precious vehicles, so....false alarm again... -
Running is starting to become boring .. :) It needs more vehicles that can't be hoarded ... Maybe that will be my next role, vehicle redistribution ..

Construction is definetely something the devs should look into (or keep looking if they already are). My main concern is how durable and permanent these buildings will be. It has already been said that the devs are working on sub-terranean bases for the survivors, how these will work I'm not entirely sure, but we are talking about on-surface things. I do not believe these can be "instanced" so what worries me the most is going through all the effort of constructing a nice fortress (alone or with friends) and then having the server restart (or some other nefarious event) and losing all of it. Another problem could be that people will start looking for these fortifications as zombie-free high-yield loot spots. Even a big clan will have problems manning the wall all day. This is, of course, unavoidable, but perhaps some new elements like land-mines or more crude defenses like trip-wire activated traps (or the famous bear traps I can't seem to find anywhere) can be included along with the construction patch so our forts can be protected in our absence. Watch dogs could also work, not only to defend the fortress but perhaps even track any would-be thieves back to their hideout. However, given the possibility of server hopping and/or logging it might be a useless meassure unless there's some sort of mechanic that binds you to the server once you interact with the construction (if only for some amount of time). Absence may also become permanent so a "taken back by nature" mechanic should also be included to prevent the over-abundance of these fortifications. Perhaps different stages of neglect can be stated, meaning that a fort (or whatever we are able to build) will start to decay without regular care up to the point it just becomes an unsable ruin (which could or could not be frecuented by feral dogs who are angry at their former masters for not coming back to feed them). Another aproach to this subject could be similar to the way Helicopter Crashes and Vehicles work. There could be damaged fortifications randomly spawned around Chernarus (hopefully not in plain sight) which can be repaired. All in all, it's a good idea, so good that the devs have been mulling over it for a while. I think it's just a matter of time before they figure out how to implement it properly.

US344 admin [Logistic] Theia deathmatch mode, then looted all the corpses
kvr28 (DayZ) replied to budderism's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
He spawned, all his stuff in inventory was gone, we have vehicles and tents stashed on the server, I don't know what else to say, -
I was kinda hanging out in DayZ doing my thing when I stumbled over yet another camp in the middle of nowhere, and I wondered to myself 'whats to stop me going in there and looting it up ... someone could log in I guess and shoot me ....' So as I piled the tent into the handily parked Lada I thought to myself 'if there was booby traps I'd be much more inclined to avoid these sorts of things'. So ... here's my thoughts (subject to drastic change) I was thinking with a toolbox and grenades you should be able to boobytrap tents. (identified as boobytraped and can be removed with toolbox). This would add two things to the game, the first - it'd keep peoples grubby mits of my crap (somewhat) and the second is it adds a 'is it trapped, do I take the risk?' element to the game. Now, before anyone just goes 'people are just gonna get toolkits and take them off your tent' and lets face it your right. The end product is SOME form of protection from those who don't have toolkits. Right now there's nothing stopping anyone from looting any tent they want. And to boobytrap a tent you'd have to use a grenade and possibly some other bits and pieces. But it would add a somewhat different element to the 'tent' playstyle. This also leads to the possibility of boobytrapped vehicles. (again fixed with a toolbox) It's not ment to STOP people looting your camp. It's just a deterrent for those who stumble across it making them think twice about ransacking and running when they don't have all the equipment they need to do so. Thoughts?

All of that stuff is legit + you CANT get banned for using hacked weapons/vehicles. I'm have using hacked weapon like 1 month now and I have flew a-10 and some Apaches (I didint spawn them) and still no bans onsight.
-
Helicopters are not back yet although some servers host as ALT hive which allows for more control and settings to the server as in people putting in helicopters. Otherwise you are just seeing hackers spawning vehicles.

Hacker on live stream right now - 7/20 - 3:27 EST
Pokket replied to Kitrick's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Naw, it wasn't Tobiidk. It was two other guys that were chasing my guildmates and I. Tobi caught up to us (via stream sniping) and actually helped us out. The two hackers were spawning in vehicles, helicopters, weapons, and jets. Plus using sound mods to immitate sounds (like bombs, helis, etc). I have no idea what their names were beause we were on a Veteran server, therefore it didn't show their names and, as you can probably guess, we never killed them either :\ we tried to. Finally we just logged out after awhile. -
AHHHH ArmA 2 OA Down for Maintenance!!

Oh, how convenient :) Had just logged off after moving our camp site with duped gear, two vehicles, and all of it should be saved. Huzzah! Feel bad for you blokes, though. With any luck, none of you lost anything too valuable. -
*What to do as solo player after survival?*
Deadcow replied to K_Tetsu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Spend some time outside of stary/novy, up in the treeline, well hidden. You don't need to kill anyone, but you can if you want. Watch people, track them, stalk them from a good distance. This way you can get a feel for how people move and act. Call it gathering intel, or surveillance. Sometimes people will lead you to camps, vehicles, and all sorts of other hidden goodies. It can also be fun to wait for someone to get close to your hiding spot and play something uber-creepy over voip, the reactions are priceless. -
This entire recording was legit. Why we didnt go the forest? We were trying to pick up a friend of ours who was south on the road. Either way, we had already been killed by the hacker. After he killed us, we ran back to base, found a crate with a ton of supplies and a helicopter. We took off, did a bunch of stuff and went to a place we knew there were some vehicles, (the 2 atv's and the bike). The hacker blew up the rest of the group that was in the helicopter. We then went to pick our group up and he started bombing us in a jet. We didnt dc since we were given the stuff we had on us. After the bombing he killed us all one last time and removed everything he gave us. I recorded the whole thing and I plan to make a highlights video.

95248 making vehicles disappear?
domistyle replied to Bombadil's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Restart the server, vehicles are still there with 95248. -
I really like this idea as well, I really like this idea as well, and think arkenz has done a good job of some good outlines. Some very controlled ability to construct things would make the game even more ridiculously addictive. Clan wars would be more like like actual wars. This would have to be /very/ minimal and controlled though. If you really want to build bases and things then maybe you should play arma 2 (its not a bad game ppl). Just a more indepth system to building things, having big projects would give something for players to shoot for besides just hoarding vehicles etc with 300 tents.

US344 admin [Logistic] Theia deathmatch mode, then looted all the corpses
kvr28 (DayZ) replied to budderism's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
we had several tents on there loaded with gear, we have been playing there several weeks, this happened last thursday where we got most of our gear, so last week me and ahren were on a server and had set up some tents down south along the debug forest. We were on one night and heard a player say he had found two tents along the debug area. Ahren and I were like you think it's ours? We talked to him over global chat and decided they probably were so we high tailed it down to the tents. Ahren went off to the local hill to watch over me as I went to check the tents. As I was looking at them I heard some one call out friendly? Yes I replied very friendly, but my friend has a sniper rifle on this area right now. So a player by the name of nitrous came down to the tents. We chatted for a bit and asked him if he wanted to join us, he did. So we have been playing off and on with nitrous the past week. Nitrous is on his neighbors internet so he drops quite a bit though. We were on another server the other night and found a motorcycle, tractor and a off road truck. That's the night parish had respawned on the coast. We lost the motorcycle the other day when ahren and i were headed to the east coast and the server reset and when we logged back in the motorcycle was gone. So last night we had hopped on and hopped back in the truck and started hitting up the towns. Caseharts joined the server to join up with us and we started trying to give him directions to get to us. He was dying from thirst so I decided to hop in the truck and drive to pick him up, I had told him to hit the power lines and I would meet him. So I hopped in the truck and started driving down the lines to him. After finding him I gave him a drink and we drove back to ahren and we all hit up the industrial areas. We started finding car parts and figured we would try and find another vehicle. There is a barn north of zelno that spawns a truck and sure enough the truck was there. Bonus was it was totally repaired except for a tire which we had in inventory. Quick change of the tire and we were off with 2 vehicles. Right then nitrous logged in and said he was spawned on the coast west of kemenka. I asked ahren you want to go get him? Ahren was hesitant due to his gas level but agreed. So Case hopped in my truck and ahren followed us down. We hit the coast and nitrous was logging in and kept getting booted. We were 3 sitting ducks so I told Case and ahren to hop in the truck with the most gas and I would wait for nitrous because he had a jerry can. So After nitrous kept getting booted, he told me to go on with out him, he would make his way up when he could log on. I asked Ahren for his cords and set my waypoint and hit the edge on the west and started driving up. I was about 2 Km from them and came up into a field and I knew I was fucked. Sitting in front of me was a bus, a ural and another vehicle. I could see about 7 people around the vehicles. I said over vent, I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead... Ahren called out, what's going on, I told him what I saw and he asked for the cords. I hit my map, gave him the cords and he said dude get out of there. I hit the gas towards the tree line and got below the ridgeline. I could hear them start opening up on me with .50 cals. Ahren and Case could hear it almost 2 km away. Ahren had parked the truck in the trees, so I got his cords and set a waypoint and figured I would try and lose these guys and ditch the truck in the forest. I don't know what they were shooting at, but they were firing off rounds and it was coming no where near me. I was giving Ahren intel where I was as he was heading down to where they were. He arrived several minutes later and the field was empty, they were gone. I looked behind me and I could see in the distance they were after me. After about 10 minutes I was dodging trees and was somewhat close to Ahrens truck and ditched mine between some pine trees. I ran up into the treeline and laid down and pulled up my map to give Ahren my cords when I could hear a truck close to me. I looked on my map and I could see them in orange and they were just west of me down the hill. I gave Ahren my cords and him and case started heading my way. I could hear them beep their horn and then everything went quiet. Ahren was about 300 m from me and I had Case come to my location. It was pitch black and we couldn't see anything. I told Ahren, dude we are fucked, if they have those vehicles, they have to have NVG's. We laid they for about 20 minutes scanning the area and couldn't see anything. Ahren thought he heard someone walking behind him, but didn't see anything. About 1:00 a.m. I was like I got to get to bed, I'll check you guys in the morning. So this morning I hopped on and found Ahren's truck but couldn't find mine. I sent him a message and said are you hopping on? We have to move this truck. He logged on and within 2 minutes he was like dude, I see their camp. Where? I asked, About 80 meters from me. So Ahren ran down and checked their vehicles, and let's just say it was a early x-mas. I ran down and picked up a pair of NVG off the trucks. He told me to go pick up his truck and head down to him. This is what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqWH3zykHBA -

Server side prevention of hackers/exploiters
Avean (DayZ) replied to Poopty Pants's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Power of cheaters in this game is almost at the same level of GTAIV. People basicly are able to mod the world. Earlier today i saw someone got teleported and then transformed into a sheep. They can spawn gear on you, vehicles and basicly be god in this game. Although i love this game i think i will put the game on shelves soon cause of hackers. I see no point in spending 8 hours working on a character to have it lost by a hacker having fun. -
Vehicles disappeared (US2)
turtleracer replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah had the same problem, found 5 vics on 3 different servers, ATV + ural on Atlanta 95, ATV on LU51 and 2 x tractor on LU203. All of them were gone after reset and yes i ALWAYS save my vehicles multiply times before i log out.. seems to be a bug atm.. a shame cuz vics are the "end game" material we have right now but cba to repair a new one if i only have it until server reset :(((( Would be nice with a response from rocket so we can confirm if its a bug or just very bad luck
