  1. I've only recently started playing DayZ but I'm not to sure how vehicles work... I know that there are multiple wrecked vehicles that the game automatically puts in but whats the distinctive difference between ones that sit there and ones that can actually be repaired and used? Related to the repairing of vehicles. Does it tell you what you need to repair it? ie, wheels/spare parts. Finally, once you successfully make a vehicle. Does it save? Such as, if I hide it somewhere in the forest and I log on the next few hours will it still be there?
  2. I’ve tried asking for help on the IRC chat and other people on the forums but no one can figure it out. Here’s what happens when I start my servers: 1) Start HiveAuth.exe and wait until it connects 2) Start Hive.exe and wait until it connects 3) Launch one of my server batch files until the console appears 4) The first player joins 5) At this point…..HiveAuth.exe displays this and remains stuck on it: 6) When myself and others try to join they will be stuck on “Waiting for server response” forever 7) To make it work I have to restart HiveAuth.exe and Hive.exe during this time and immediately they start working and players spawn in 8) The problem is that it seems they skipped over the part where they load tents/vehicles into the server Lofty in IRC suggested that the problem could be that it tries loading vehicles for both servers and gets stuck: 13:46[bTB]Lofty_EU5 That could be part of the issue. one instance of hive will try loading vehicles for both servers when you restart it, so it might not know where to put them, hence HiveAuth getting stuck at TRY!..PUT! 13:47[bTB]Lofty_EU5 when it should stream TRY!..PUT!..GET! for a few lines The problem with that though is it happens if I try just launching one server I’ve tried everything it seems…multiple restarts, only launching one server, experimenting with opening the .exe at different times and no luck.

    Many more working vehicles

    There is little reason to have so few working vehicles in the game. Remember the lineups of working vehicles on the highways in "The Walking Dead"? If people got infected, they would be simply abandoning them. Also, it should be possible to siphon gas from these vehicles. Remember, there is no electricity and therefore gas pumps would not work.
  4. So I'm all clear on the character persistance, but what about other items in the game. 1. If I place a tent and fill it with loot on one server, does it stay on that server even if I switch servers? How long do tents stay active after being placed. 2.Do vehicles also stay on the server where they were first repaired?
  5. So I've been trying for days to find a vehicle to fix up and I've had no luck. The only way I could become better geared in 1.5.7 is to get NVG, but that's rare. So I wanted a car (Not bragging, just been alive long enough). I feel like I'm stagnating a bit in terms of things to do, I'm stuck between gearing up and getting wheels. Now for some questions; Will broken vehicles respawn over time if the number of broken vehicles drops too low? How often does a full reset of broken and/or working vehicles happen? I get the impression that once a server has been up for say a week or two then all the vehicles have been claimed and are then hidden away when not in use. Leaving players like me in the situation of searching town after town and finding nothing. So yea whats up with this, am I too late to the party and do I have to start searching the wilderness on foot for player camps? Also as a side note I would like to see broken vehicles become more common while the parts needed to fix them become rarer, this would be more authentic imo.

Date/Time: During The 1.5.7 in general What happened: We crashed about 2 helis, and 3 cars ever since there are no cars to be seen on the server even after restarts , we have checked their original spawn points but nothing . . . We did lose both helicopters due to our pilots being kicked out by battleye. I think there won't be any vehicles left after all are lost , Unless their respawn works. Where you were: during the crashed/vehicle losses i was offline. I've been noticing more and more that the easier weapons to find, like the Winchester and the Lee Enfield pack ALOT more power then the rarer weapons to fine such as AK's, M4,M16 etc. Not even the other day I was sneaking around and came across a guy camping inside of a firestation with a CZ. I got up there pretty much touching him and fired around 15 bullets of my AK74 into his chest on full auto and he still had the time to do a 180 and fire his sniper hitting him causing me to bleed a little. Weapons like the m16 and m4 take 2 shots to kill a zombie, making you use the little ammo you have more wisely. But when it comes down to the easier weapons you can just go crazy and still find 8 mags in the next house. I can't really see the risk of going up north and trying to fine the rarer weapons with the rarer ammo if you could just stay south and find these far more powerful weapons and alot more ammo. Anyone agree? Oh and the vehicle thing. I think it could be a good idea if you could get parts out of wreaked vehicles you find laying around. ^^

DAY 09/05/2012 ____________________________________________________________ First Vehicle of the day, left behind , because we didnt have enough stuff to repair it. Our usually vehicle: In the parking lot waiting for others to log out. _____________________________________________________________ Other car as arrived, keep waiting for the rest, off road wins again.   9. I love DayZ so far. I am the creator of Zombie Invasion,which is a mod I spent countless months creating with help of others on BIS forums. It takes the same fundamental principles but in a much smaller less script intensive way. I was steering my mod into a more DayZ sort of way but saw others with much better programming skills take the genre to heights I could never go, thus postponing any further development. I had typed a big post, and decided to start over and state my one main argument which is Risk vs Reward vs Time. Everything DayZ is doing is what I wanted to do in my mod. I play only on the Hardcore servers cause I look for full simulation experiences. I have about 12 hours+ in straight gameplay and understanding of the game. In that 12 hours I saw 2 vehicles total and 0 driving around. When I stray from flares, or gunfire, I dont think about losing my shit as much as losing the TIME spent.. Because we know supplies arent too hard to find, but running 5 kilometers is a bitch. I love the aspect of fixing up vehicles and now scavenging to maintain the vehicle. Its like Tier 2 of scavenging. However, if you lose that vehicle, you lose god knows how many hours/days of fixing it up (bigger organized groups may have it easier). Soon people will logon and think... Uhhhhg more running. No vehicles ever in sight, before I can even find one, each death feels like TIME wasted. Even if its another group member that you now have to find... Which would take 5 minutes with a vehicle. This post is to better help the game go in a brighter direction. My most fun was when I found a friendly group and we went zombie hunting. I think groups and socializing makes the game fun. Though, the game needs to better balance Time vs Reward. Cause the risk of losing time is huge, because then that means more running, and thats just not fun after several hours unless there is relative hope and possibility of gaining a vehicle in 1-3 hours.
  10. Hi there, I started playing on friday and this is probably the best game (even though its technically just a mod) I have played in years. I was having a discussion with some friends and to be honest I think the game is perfect as it is, but if you were ever thinking of new features I thought of a few. Here is one of those "gems". As there are quite a plethora of vehicles in this game that are available if you can do them up, I was wondering how feasible it would be to included horses? We have other wild animals, and if you were to use the mechanic like cars so you would need to get a saddle from a farm and you could ride it for a while, and maybe have some horse feed like the fuel tanks for the car. This would probably cause more hassle for players than they are worth thinking about my previous experiences with horses in games, as they would give off more sound, make you easier to see, making you a generally easier target. HOWEVER! They would be great for people to temporarily ride long distances if needed, but again like everything in this game it would be a double edged sword.
  11. I've looked all over the forums and couldn't find anything answering these questions: 1) Are tents suppose to transfer with your character when you log-in to a different server? If so, do they disappear from the original server where they were setup? 2) Do tents disappear when you log-out (preventing other players from looting while you're offline)? 3) Do vehicles transfer with your character when you log-in to a different server? If so, do they disappear from the original server where they were built/fixed? 4) Do vehicles disappear when you log-out (preventing other players from stealing them while you're offline)? Thanks!

    Leaky Vehicles

    Have a new vehicle, it probably need some fuel parts. After using the context menu to apply some fuel parts you'll never see the option again unless bad things happen. Your fuel indicator will stay green and all is good. Or as least that's what we assume. The issue I'm running into is that vehicles are eating insane amounts of fuel. I'm not sure exactly how the leaky fuel is supposed to work normally, but after repairing a uaz it still burns fuel like mad. Example, the distance between Stary Sobor and Vishnoy ate up a little over a quarter tank of gas. Should this be happening, did I fix the fuel wrong, or is this possibly a bug?

  14. Just say i joined a server called "us 2" built/fixed up a bus and hid it in some treeline.... does this bus then stay in that location on that server forever? or does it reset? Is there an option to save it?

    Making vehicles less rare

    Currently most people on server are located in 2 cities, NW airfield or travelling between them, making game boring after discovering those places and realizing it’s not worth going anywhere else because it’s not worth spending time travelling to ghost towns. Currently most vehicles are clans/admins toys and since vehicles are so rare that they are not used very often to avoid losing them. Making vehicles less rare and increasing gas consumption would make people spread out more making inland more dangerous. Also it would create new hot zones around gas stations, roads and most supermarkets. Best way would be making ATVs/motorcycles very common so even solo players can use them without too much effort and since they have no trunk it wouldn’t make game too easy. Making cars slightly more common but would still require small group to repair. Helicopters are good as they are now. These changes would make travelling more interesting for experienced players when threat can appear out of nowhere very fast. Also helicopters would be less op because landing places could be tracked easier and it would create new challenges to clans using them.

Some vehicle ideas a) Random damaged vehicles with driver/passenger slots locked, but with ammo/weapons/items in their cargo slots b) A Found and fixed vehicle has a unique key (SetVariable Players name) so its then worth the player spending the time repairing the vehicle Nobody can then steal the vehicle if its parked up, but they can still carjack it if the player is driving it. This however would only be worth it once the Dedicated servers run their own local database.
  17. Date/Time: 10:th may. Clock around 4:00 am (4 in the morning) gmt+1 summer time. (ca 1 hr before post creation) What happened: I Had almost fixed 2 cars to be fully drivable (1 red VAZ found in gorka, i repaired everything exept some windshields. some parts had gotten minor damage. 1 offroad (the BMF wooden version) found in dubrovka, i repaired everything exept windshields and 1 wheel), i had saved both multiple times, the vaz i have saved by getting in and out and manual saving, both in gorka and dubrovka. the offroad i had done manual saving on in dubrovka. Then eu1 crashed, and when i came back both of the cars were gone. I couldnt find them in either of the towns, i checked all the places i had saved them on but they werent there. Where you were: In Gorka at crash, but had been in both towns during the day. What you were doing: I was running in gorka the town searching for the last wheel. *Current installed version: 1.5.6 *Server(s) you were on: EU1 *Timeline of events before/after error: I had droven from dubrovka to gorka with the VAZ. and got out in gorka, i didnt manualy save it that time but i had done before it. The server was a bit laggy and the zombie/loot spawn was low and took time before it started to spawn in the area you were in. At this time the offroad was in dubrovka and the vaz was in gorka. Then the server crashed and when i got back both cars were gone as explained above. EDIT: Turns out my vehicle got back, but not imidiatly after the server crash. The time they got back is unknown becaues i had logged out. But my friend found the offroad at the same place with the same parts repaired around afternooon (16-17) although when i got back it was stolen. They also claimed to see my other car(red vaz) being droven by some others. If it was the same car as mine i dont know, but the offroad was. So i dont know if it just took time for them to respawn, or if there was another crash/respawn wich they got spawned afterwards.

    so today i spent 4 hours running through towns across the map checking every road and dirttrack on my way for a vehicle to repair but found nothing, seriously, put more vehicles in please, even in a zombie apocalypse there would be a hell of a lot of useable vehicles, i personally think people driving around would fix a lot of the pvp issues and get people to spread out on the map more
  19. As mentioned in this thread about vehicle problems on FR1, when servers go down, vehicles don't always return. Yesterday's crash of US4 and US5 for a few hours ended up with a lot of missing vehicles on restart. In the past, a second server restart generally has the vehicles showing up again in their same positions, so far with the crash that hasn't been the case. Who all has experienced this? Is this a widespread issue or specific to certain servers?

  21. Least this is the experience I've had with them. Found a mint condition motorcycle, drive it for barely 10 minutes and the tires are already red and need to be replaced. What is the point in even keeping the bike when I can't drive it even town to town without it breaking down Cars aren't as bad as bikes but they are still shitty. Go from a full tank of gas in a 'everything is fixed car' to barely 25% gas left after driving around 60km? What? I don't mind the vehicle system as it is currently I just think they need a buff when it comes to durability and fuel consumption

Has anyone else encountered this in 1.5.4 , i thought the vehicle saves had been fixed in this patch, but i managed to finally fix a heli and fly it away only to hear that the FR1 server just crashed and restarted and now the heli is gone..... My rage is obviously huge but Im more concerned as to weather or not the vehicle saves are broken for everyone of its just a single server issue.

Date/Time: 5/1/12-5/2/12 What happened: vehicles did not save their state of repair or inventory correctly (but location was saved correctly) Where you were: Anywhere What you were doing: We found more parts to repair our first vehicle and did so, then we found a second and repaired it as well and drove them both back to camp. This took place between 9pm and 12pm last night. Upon logging in today at 10am, both vehicles were where we left them, but they were both reverted to the state of repair and inventory that they were in some time around 10:30pm last night, the second vehicle lost all repairs except the front two tires (which we did during the first trip back to that vehicle to repair it, all other repairs done on the second trip were undone). Also the repairs done to our first vehicle were undone. tldr: I was going to chalk this up to the server reverting to a previous state, but the location of both vehicles saved correctly and the inventories and state of repair did not. *Current installed version: 1.5.3 *Server(s) you were on: Dallas 1 *Timeline of events before/after error: 9-12pm 5/1/12, 10am 5/2/12

    Dayz's Flawed Foundations: Movement and Gunplay

    After working with Software developers across multiple companies and understanding the different methodologies used to create new software and systems. I blame both management and the devs. Early on it was evident to me that scope creep was a HUGE issue and management didn't hold their feet to the fire. They let Dean Hall run his mouth and didn't reign him in until it was too late. I am certain management thought the attention DH brought would be all unicorns and rainbows and they could translate that into $$$. But the devs kept saying things in public that they shouldn't have. Do you remember when we were told speed hacking and flying cars would not be possible in the game because they were going to use "SANITY CHECKS". That never happened. And if you underrstand the move to have vehicles client side, you would know that sanity checks would damn near be impossible UNLESS the vehicles were server side. Hell, they couldn't even use the ragdoll stuff because it was all done client side and the way bodies fell would be different on every client as it was random. All of this is shit that happens during the normal R and D phase pre-ALPHA. They were saying these things and promising things out in the open in EA and had no idea if it would actually work. It was just stupidity flying all around at BI.

    Dayz's Flawed Foundations: Movement and Gunplay

    I heard from rumors that DayZ was always meant to be co-developed with the new Enfusion engine, but... making an engine takes time, so DayZ development took much longer than anticipated. There is nothing to blame consoles for. Sure they released the game on the consoles, but that doesn't change the fact that they just didn't have the engine for the game ready. They COULDN'T from a technical standpoint make the game they wanted to make. You could blame consoles for 0.64 > 1.0 version jump, but to be honest everyone was sick of their Early Access BS excuses, they had the game in development for so long there is nobody else to blame but BI. Game put in development way too early, work on the new engine barely started so they had to use old stuff and eventually ditch it and transfer to the new stuff, hence we lost so many features the game used to have. So to sum it up, the only blame could go on BI for not having the engine early enough, thus prolonging the development of DayZ for so long and making a mess out of it. I'm sure Enfusion will have server side vehicles just like DayZ, but now DayZ is suffering from the early implementation of that.
