I was lollygagging around in a server with side chat last night and I was at the Northwest airfield and leaving. When i got to Kabanino I asked if anyone happened to be in the NWAF because I would team up with them, it gets boring killing innocent people by yourself, nobody responded. So 8 minutes later when I got near Stary Sobor some guys said they found a bus at the NWAF. I asked them how long they've been there. They said about 20 minutes. So I told them because they didn't tell me they were there when I asked, that I should go over there and kill them. They then said, "lol good luck with that". CHALLENGE ACCEPTED MOTHERFUCKER! So I run up to the airfield again and scope the area out with my L85A2 and see nothing. I proceed to sweep the airfield. Nobody there. okay.jpg A couple minutes later they asked anyone if they wanted to join them in their travels. One guy went to go meet up with them. I logged out changed my name and joined back in asking if anyone wanted to team up and they gave me their TS3 ip so I joined. As time passes they establish themselves at Zub and waited for the guy they originally were going to meet up with. He appeared on a motorbike so they killed him and took his stuff. Then they drove their bus and motorcycle to pogorevka. All of a sudden theres a server restart and they lose their vehicles. So they're wondering where they can find more vehicles. I tell them to check the western vehicle spawns while saying I ran up to the NE airfield, when really I was sitting in stary waiting for some poor survivor. They started talking about going to zelenogorsk so I went on a marathon run to zelenogorsk. When I got there they were still looting, and I was in the forest area west of the town and couldnt get a clear sure shot.(I didn't want the other guy to disconnect when his buddy goes down) So after they're done looting one logs off to edit some document for their clan and the other decides to meet up with me. We decide on stary because they think im still at the Northeastern part of the map. So as I follow him from a good distance(800m-1.2km) I find two trucks both needing 4 wheels, a fuel tank, and engine parts. So I told both of them that I was actually following them around everywhere they were going. They were suprised and laughing wondering how i did it. I told them I Lied to them about everywhere i was. They started saying how they need to improve how they go around. I tell them about the two trucks sitting in the middle of a field. So the guy still connected came to check If I was serious and when he got there i was watching him and he checked the trucks for gear(which I had forgotten to do since i carry a sniper and two assault rifles with essentials for survival) and he shits bricks because theres 5 L85A2s in there, satchels charges and all kinds of goodies. So i crawl up to him and creep him out(ghillie suit FTW) then his friend comes back on to search for tires and all the necessary car parts. We make a reluctant run to cherno to get parts. After we gather everything we need we make the long run back, fix up the cars and proceed to hide them because we're all tired.(It was around 4-5am and i started the hunt for them around 1am) on our way we find a bus in the middle of the road. Awesome. We grab that and drive our convoy to the specified location and park everything and save the vehicles and log out. The whole time I was debating on whether or not i should still kill them. But when we found the bus I decided not to. But what I did do was pick up another friend an hour later and drove him up all the way to the top of the map and we drove all of the vehicles somewhere else so when they log in they have no vehicles and they have to run all the way from the edge of the map back down to towns. I'm an asshole, currently at 17 murders and everyday that number increases.

I've had a couple ideas mainly to do with camp sites. 1. Cut down and be able to move vegetation to setup as camoflauge. 2. Add a large tent like the ones at start sobor, make them take up 9 or 10 slots. Make them have the inventory capacity of the ural. 3. Add camoflauged netting to further hide vehicles.
-
Please make a flip vehicle option. The amount of times i've flipped vehicles which have taken me a very long time to gather the parts for. in before the bad driver comments.

I'm not sure how any of the above is "too convenient"; in fact it took me the better part of 3 hours to steal your vehicles! If you have issues with anything I haven't explained, you're welcome to ask for clarification. Secondly, I looked at the post history for both you and D4ssBlaster and thought it was rather odd to see all the posts requesting help to detect hackers, and you were met with responses about Jets/Helicopters and Tanks. Funny how we had none of that and yet you still decided we were "hacking" with supposedly irrefutable proof that essentially amounted to us destroying your camp. You may say to want to "start over," but we're still banned.

Hmmm this is a very strange mechanic. Why wouldn't vehicles be saved to the character the same way your inventory is? I think the developers need to make it like that if possible.
-
Yer I watched an Interview with Rocket on You Tube today, He said he took them out because they where way too laggy, But weirdly all road vehicles are also laggy as hell but they still in the game, Think he said he bringing them back when its all fixed.

"Save Old Bike" doesn't do shit...
Askar replied to austendude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Same thing happened to the one bike I ever got my hands on. Hid it in a place noone could find (not even people looking for such places :P), then placed it up against a tree, carefully hidden in a pine grove. The only way they could find it is if they were for some reason scanning every single tree in that area with a toothpick. I had trouble finding it myself when I returned later that day. I saved it a ton of times over that 2 hour period of bike ownership, never even moved it from that spot. Next morning, it's gone. The server could have just eaten the vehicle. It's been largely fixed but it still happens, especially if the server updates either the mod or the beta. I've lost all of the vehicles I've ever managed to get my hands on within hours because of metal-hungry servers. -
Again.. Its more to learn the system more than anything. When do vehicles spawn back to their original spawns? Whats the point of having the map that indicates vehicle spawns when they never spawn there? Think about it. Lets say when the hive is reset or the server is brand new the vehicle spawns at one of the designated areas. When do they spawn back? 1. We know that when a player dies that saved the vehicle last it has NO effect on the vehicle. 2. We know when the vehicle blows up it has NO effect on the vehicle spawn, as it will spawn right back in the same spot when the server restarts. 3. We know that the vehilce position will save in the last place the vehicle is stopped. 4.... So when does the vehicle make it back to the original spawn? we didnt update our server for 48hours thinking that would effect vehicle spawns too, because no one would be using them for 2 days. But that had no effect either so whats the deal?

I read this as: It's not fair that I dont have every single vehicly on my own server, how can I reset the vehicles so I can get them all for myself.

Obviously this game needs more zombies. And more maps. And more guns. And more options of things to do. This is an ALPHA so it's not a finished game. Of course there will be more zombie types, guns, vehicles, etc. The purpose at this stage is to fix up the mechanics of the game, not to add content.
-
I actually have too many vehicles and a dealership sounds like a great way to get rid of them lol
-
So I have to ask.... You have this small fleet of vehicles.... But you ran around the map looking for more vehicles? So what, you needed more vehicles to not use?
-
I think its more to learn the system than anything. Vehicles explode and when the server restarts they appear exactly where they blew up. Not to mention if your driving a vehicle and the server starts randomly the vehicle will respawn where it was last stopped. And people can criticize vehicle hoarding all you want. But the lack of vehicles is why they get hoarded. If there was some sort of transportation around every corner they wouldnt get hoarded. But then the devs would have to fix how easy it is to duplicate weapons on vehicle resave.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. The guys you were watching may have found a hacked-in tank, but they absolutely are not officially in the game. Just like jets/any other vehicle you can think of, hackers can hack tanks in. They can even be repairable, as I imagine the effects of the modded repair items are global for vehicle types since it would be kinda silly to do it individually per vehicle (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the items just fix a particular broken part for each vehicle. I'd imagine that a hacked in tank with broken treads could be fixed by tires). I'm pretty sure that the items and vehicles listed on the DayZ wiki are pulled straight from the databases, so if it's not listed there it's almost certainly hacked in. The only exceptions would be bugs or hidden changes introduced with a patch, each of which would be discovered rather quickly especially if tanks were spawning. I'm not saying that whoever you were watching play hacked in the tank, but it certainly was hacked in at some point by someone, because they do not 'naturally' spawn. At all.

Hackers appearing on LIRIKK stream!
Silent observer replied to devoldo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
actually yes you did your second response said you dont think you did anything negitive to the stream and the next sentence you said f you don't want hackers around, do not name what server you are on, nor gladly get in spawned vehicles just for the sake of entertainment. So yes you did actually say something negitive about the stream. Also if you noticed the admin did kick the hacker, Lirik left the server and came back and the hacker came back. You wanna blame that on Lirik too? Like i said, im sure the admin can get the GUID of the hacker since we saw who it was, then can send it in and the hacker will get banned -
BTW tons of vehicles still unclaimed. If you consider those drops.

The Battleye restriction #55 was a problem since the last battleye update, the server owner needs to upload the latest scripts.txt from their client area, I got kicked off my own server by with it when i sniped someone, but it has something to do vehicles.

Random Tractor in the forest.....
random51 replied to furbagg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People hide vehicles/tents in the woods, not unusual to come across them now and then. -
Hackers appearing on LIRIKK stream!
devoldo replied to devoldo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't think I was doing anything negative to the stream. If you don't want hackers around, do not name what server you are on, nor gladly get in spawned vehicles just for the sake of entertainment. These hackers love the limelight, which you are giving them by participating. -
The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry and the Inevitable Collapse of Day Z
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is my favorite part. "The data and trend do not support my claim, but they will! You just wait and see! So lets ignore the data and instead I'll just throw out some random speculations and baseless predictions but since my post has some charts they will seem more valid." Why don't we just wait until the data exists and do an actual analysis? Since none of the data or trends seem to support any of the claims you're making, don't you think it's a bit premature to start drawing ridiculous conclusions about the "inevitable collapse of the game?" The recent influx of players isn't that massively imbalanced compared to where it was a month or two ago. The game went from 75k to 150k and 150k to 350k with just as much fervor and that was well long enough ago for these people to have fallen victim to your inevitable-banditry theory, yet banditry and murder rates continue to decline. Your chart is an interesting roadmap of your personal subjective experience with the game. None of it matches up with mine, nor I'm sure many people's. You took one path and made certain decisions and had a series of experiences but just because you put them on a pretty graph doesn't mean they're anything but your personal story of DayZ. And here again, your analysis of the "bandit's dilemma" is entirely subjective. Diplomacy isn't even an option for me, for example. I'm not interested in making new friends in the game or forming alliances and because I already have plenty of support diplomacy gains me nothing. It's not a strategy I will ever employ, nor one that's particularly interesting to me as a game mechanic period. I will not engage random strangers in negotiations because even if I can trust them not to shoot me, I can pretty much guarantee you I cannot trust them to play the game near me without endangering my life. I choose my friends carefully based on people I know and trust not to play like a lackwit and get everyone around me killed. Diplomacy doesn't exist in my game. My choices are evasion, elimination, observation, espionage or manipulation. You don't even mention observation & espionage - watching or stalking a player in an attempt to gain information about his companions or potential assets such as hidden vehicles or tents. This is a huge part of the end game for me and my crew. You overlook manipulation as well - attempting to distract or disorient a player using tactics such as driving vehicles nearby or firing weapons in the distance to attempt to draw a target out into the open or scare them off or otherwise change or manipulate their behavior. Sometimes it's literally just taunting - scare them a little bit and make them think twice about what they're doing for no other reason than to see what their reaction is. Still again you list gains from elimination when, for me, there are very, very few. The very rare chance that a player has NVGs, which is the only piece of loot I would bother taking off a body at this point, do not really enter into my decision making process. Elimination for me is essentially profitless. Evasion is always safer, and loot is not needed so the only benefit to elimination is the thrill of it. In essence your analysis is simplistic and assumes that we all have the same motivations and value equally the same types of gains and losses in the game which is exactly the opposite of what happens in reality in DayZ - which is that pretty much every player has their own reasons for doing what they do. There is no common goal or objective so gains/losses are entirely subjective. You know what I value most in the game right now? Crazy-ass interesting things happening. That's it. I don't care who lives or dies or comes or goes I just want "stuff to go down" so I try to put myself in situations where that's likely to happen. I gain memories, so no matter what happens I win. If I try to kill you it's because I think that might result in something interesting happening and if I don't it's only because I think that might be more fun. It's all one big gain to me. So your model breaks down almost immediately. I'm not weighing gains and losses anymore, I'm just trying to get myself into interesting scenarios and see how they play out. My values change on a whim. -
TX 20 Vehicles comprimised, recommend moving them now
fatal (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The admins found a website that mapped out all vehicle locations today on the TX20. Currently if you have a vehicle on TX20 it needs to be moved NOW. Even your tents may be comprimised so we recommend you move your camps if you have vehicles at your camps as well. -Admins -
Where is my motorcycle?
Zurloko (DayZ) replied to Zurloko (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
a friend gave me the bike i dont know where he found it... Also i went to other vehicles that my clan have hidden and were there -
The server restarted. Don't Vehicles also reset on the restart? That might be your answer.
-
Perhaps, but it would just increase the gap between the hoarders with tents and vehicles (*ahem*), and the newer players. I'd support something like this for items like vehicle parts and fuel, along with the bits for the planned underground bases, *if* vehicles are reset globally.

Just a small camp we found with 2 vehicles at it.
