Totaly unrealistic having so few vehicles. And in a world where 50% of buildings are sheds and warehouses with car parts in them why are the vehicles all broken? I have shot thousands of mechanic zombies (I presume thats what they are), you would have thought they would have fixed one care before becoming a zombie. Also should have way more bikes. fucking Tyrone.

Tents, campsites, and hoarding items/vehicles isn't the problem. Anybody with a bicycle can stealthily patrol the forests and accidentally stumble upon your camp, marking it down on the map and taking everything he can hold. That's a mechanic of the game; by pitching a tent and settling down in an area, you run the risk of your campsite being found and losing all of the items you have stored. The issue here is the duplication of the items in said camps. At the moment, a player who duplicates items can simply reduplicate the items he or she has lost to random patrols. There's no personal value attached to these duped items - they're simply lines of code in a script. THAT is the problem. Campsites are fine. Campsites that hoard duplicated items (and house those who duplicate) aren't.

Hello Stan I know of the camp you are on about and i can reassure you there has been no cheating done to create it. All the vehicles were legitimately found and the tents are currently broken and duplicate. We created this camp to create some conflict on the server, rather than the occasional incursion. Trying to encourage people to try and steal and attack the fortress. Thank you for letting me know of your issue and once again i can reassure you that camp is 100% Legitimate. We are very strict on hacking/Alt-f4/ghosting in DE7 and meet every one of them with serious consequences. Many Thanks Throbin, DE7 Owner.

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
CommanderBoiled replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
and this is exactly how i think about 70-90% of all choppers in game will be out of sight from the first 30 minutes after they are reimplemented. and they will keep out of sight for ever for the very big majority of the dayz survivors. this would require that you actually see a chopper flying around and that you have such a big calliber gun available at this 10-20 seconds time frame. what i think will happen with the choppers can be easily assumed if you think what is the situation with all other vehicles. clans people hoard them in some distant place, maybe still outside of the map, just to have them standing there. i would say that hardly any vehicles hoarded by the clans are ever used. maybe offroad vehicles like jeeps or motorcycles. these types are the only ones which are usefull really. but the clans are hoarding every vehicle they can get just to have them standing around in the wilderness for ever so that the big majority of all dayz players will never see a vehicle. and with choppers in most cases this will be the same. all the clans (aswell as the server owners with their folks who will use server restarts, playerkicks and the like to accomplish their goal) will run for them like crazy children after they are reimplemented just to fly them into the desert and never have them moving again. -
I recently walked from the eastern shore and almost to the western edge, checking every possible spawn i could find. And not a damn thing... With how vehicles work now, i bet almost all of them are taken. So best way to get one, might be to steal one if you have the balls.

Permadeath and fear of losing all your hard earned gear is an essential feature of this mod. It is one big reason this mod able to elicit such intense emotions in players. Therefore I would not only like to see duped tent cities wiped, but a change in game mechanics so that all the gear that player has hoarded in tents or vehicles would vanish for good when his character dies. I don´t see any reason why you can hoard stuff with your current character, die, and then run with a new character to the tent of your previous "life" and pick up the gear. It takes away the point of permadeath, the thrilling aspect of balancing the risks between survival and scavengin for loot and just reinforces the juvenile deathmatch mentality, imo.

Man all i seem to do is walk everywhere, i've found an ATV once by pure chance after someone logged off right in front of me and left a fully laiden ATV (for witch i rolled about a mile later...) Is it me or is there a severe lack of vehicles about the place... i mean ive never even found a bycicle or one of these fabled northern bandit camps where everything is meant to be stashed..... Any hints or tips to where i can find something and give my poor aching feet a rest? Thanks in advance. [EFS] Derpy Hooves

Periodically wiping some all tents/vehicles would probably hurt the legit players most. The people who actively dupe will only have to do a few crash site/NWAF runs to get one of each item and then dupe the shit out of them again. I agree though that this is one of the biggest issues atm. The thrill of the loot hunt is pretty much gone now for me after i found a city of ~20 tents stocked with everything you could ever want. At first me and my friends thought we had actually raided it, but the tents just had MORE of the same items a day later due to intentional or unintentional duping. But yea, imo duping is one of the 3 biggest issues atm right after ALT-F4 and ghosting and once it is fixed all characters, tents and vehicles need to be wiped.

Probably prep for helicter release. Or the usual admin/clan hoarding of fun stuff like vehicles. I know that I expect all of my stashed stuff to be gone after the weekend.

Why do regular/recruit servers exist?
englols replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I totally understand from the " no x-hairs " since when you're sniping and someone is counter-sniping and they can just move their cursor over a mountain and find someone is quite annoying, but 3rd person is honestly not so bad, this is like comparing Diablo 3 Softcore to hardcore(I know its a crappy game) But you can't complain about certain rules/game options, not everyone is hardcore/good at games, and would like more of an casual approach. You can sit here and whine, cry, get upset because there is other servers with lower expectations for newbs, but why does it really matter? If someone joined your " expert server " and killed you with items they may have received off Reg/recruit, why does it matter? You still died. You can't get attached to items, vehicles because if you do, you'll just get upset when you die LOL. -
vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
Atamawood replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually its 225km squared... Anyways, I think the best fix for finding vehicles is to find a single server and stick to it. Check the west side of the map x:020-100 y:001-015 is where I usually find many tent sites and parking lots. I remember I went two weeks without seeing a car. Then one day found a red lada and a blue van both around Myshkino. Me and my group have had camps there, once with 11 vehicles that we raided from camps near by. Of course hiding that amount of cars is near impossible! It really is, I don't get how people seem to think that they are easy to hoard. They are not! We get some vehicles stolen all the time. We usually find them later, abandoned in some field with no gas or tires. And people wonder why we hoard them. The vehicles for us are kinda the end game at the moment. We spend our time fixing up and finding them instead of going off and killing people in cherno. We use them for transport and storage, raiding the air field and picking up guys on the coast. At the moment we have 2 bicycles (which are the best vehicles in the game hands down) a jeep, military transport truck, atv, white truck, two motorcycles, blue van, a bus, and soon to be helicopter. We have around 11 guys what play with us so these vehicles get a lot of use. And maintaining them is the hard part, really just falls down on myself and another guy who has to go fix and retrieve what the other guys leave behind... Still thinking about cutting down by getting rid of the bus and white truck, we've donated a red car, hatchback, and the other white truck we had. Went from 5 bikes to 2. Lost our Ural. But who cares, we don't restart the server to get back our "St3LLaR Lutz", we don't get mad or upset, frustrated or hurt. Frankly its because we know we'll find it some day maybe and it gives us something to do. -
Personally, I am not greatly attached to any of my weapons, ammunition, or vehicles. If there was a wipe (or I died due to a hacker, or died due to a glitch, whatever the case may be,) I would be slightly disappointed that I have lost everything, as at the moment, I am on my longest life to date, but I would not quit playing DayZ because I lost it all. After all, death is a part of the game, and learning to accept death is an important lesson. However, just because I don't have a lot of attachment to my character, doesn't mean that I think a wipe is necessary. At this point in the game, there is simply no need for a wipe. If you really want to think about it, there's already going to be a wipe. It'll take place sometime during September, when DayZ is released as a standalone game using the ArmA 3 engine. I think it would be interesting if we actually saw the total percentage of all items on the Hive servers - for example, whether DMRs make up .03% of all items in-game or something. That would answer your question as to whether or not we need a wipe.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I just want to know if the heli´s are actually available right now with the patch or if they have been just "added" to the list of vehicles? i know some of you guys might have already answered that or even rocket, but its just that i want to confirm it firmly because i saw one heli in my clan´s server, 4 guys were in it 2 of them happened to have an AS50 with thermal scope which doesnt belong to the day z mod but thats another issue im trying to resolve... just wanted to know if the heli´s are available right now because if they are not i would like to proceed with the respective cheating report! and of course ill start reporting the guy with the AS50 PWS wep. thanks in advance! -
Okay, basically the story is that me and my buddies were in our camp and we decided to take a hike and go to the Cherno hospital. Once we got there we saw a truck with a player inside, we shot at him and he disconnected to avoid dying I'm assuming, then we took the vehicle and started driving back to the camp, and the wheels broke off about a quarter through the drive, so we had to go back and search for tires. We searched the city for maybe 3-4 hours to get this thing in a condition where we'd be able to drive all the way back successfully, none of this time had we searched the vehicles gear slots yet. But eventually when we got it back to camp we were gonna load it up with some ammo and go to the NW Airfield, and when we checked inside to see what was in there we almost shit ourselves. It was stocked on good guns, lots of ammo etc. Guns like 5 M4A3 CCOs, a PP-19 Bizon, a few snipers etc. And then we assumed it was a hackers car, but the hacker must've disconnected and the person in the car when we stole it must've came along and just found it and just took it, because there's no reason a hacker would disconnect in fear of dying. I'm reporting this incident so server admins watch out more, I'm unsure if it was for SURE a hacked vehicle or not, but assuming all the gear in it, I'd assume it was. Now, we stole this vehicle fair and square, so I would appreciate it not get taken away as we did use a lot of time on it to get it set up well (Health wise) etc. Also, I believe the hacker whom may or may not have spawned it was named Mook, as he killed me and my friend with a M240, but we took him out with our final shots, and 2 minutes later ran into my friends near the NW airfield with a M24 (They killed him and looted his body, that's how I knew it was him).

My experience with vehicles: Drive it, hide it. Come back and it's disappeared.

vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
Bloodriki replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
General rule of thumb is if you have vehicles you use vehicles, and in using those vehicles you are susceptible to whatever dangers are out and about in the world. Our group "hoarded" vehicles. We lost one to someone stumbling into our camp and we lost another when we barreled into another 8 strong group's camp en-route to go pick up one of our's that had died. The ensuing fight was glorious, they came out on top so they deserve the V3S and all the trouble it brings them :). Also, it takes hours to fix up vehicles if you dont have the parts on hand. I personally don't run around with 4 wheels on me at all times so I either have to A. Run back to camp to grab parts and hope that no one finds the broken down vehicle at it's spawn (rarely happens) or B. Scavenge the surrounding area in search of parts and pray I'm lucky. Having people to back you certainly helps though. -
vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
[email protected] replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicle hoarding is pretty obvious once you come across it. The worst case I ever witnessed was an entire carpark of some 10 vehicles all in the exact same spot, they didn't even have tents, because they didn't need any. -

Pft our group dominates alot of the servers vehicles and the choppers are going to be no different, your fancy guns mean nothing to us. :P -
Just curious about other peoples experiences. Here is mine. After convincing my friend to buy it and after a incredibly,head-aching, long time to teach him what to do, we finally are able to meet up, and go north. (Although he was still incredibly oblivious about so many things) We finally and convienently met up at Balota, looted it, went to Cherno and went North. We had the standard gear I think, me having an AK and a M1911, him having a Revolver and some other gun, I think an M10 shotgun. We slowly made our way up to Pogorevka and him after, watching WAY too many videos about cars and him bitching about finding one along the entire way up to Pogo, right outside the church, speak of the devil, an actual (and my first) car. We were both pretty damn exicted even though it was one of the worst cars. If I recall correctly it was a UAZ. Not the Jeep, the really crappy red car. The loot in it was low-value, some jerry cans, mags for random weapons, various medical supplies, some food, etc. But it was still a vehicle. So oblivious of all danger we sprint to it and try to drive it. Had full fuel and all green parts...besides that dang wheel..even if it did take us 15 minutes trying to figure why it isn't working. So now we needed a wheel. We go to the local towns near us looking for a wheel. No luck for a solid 2 hours. Somewhat defeated and him wanting to server hop for the wheel. We go back to the red car and we're both looking at the inventory when BAM! A small puff of smoke comes up a foot from where I am. We start running frantically and end up in the church together, waiting. I risk another visit to the red car but fortunatley this sniper has pretty horrible aim and missed me a solid 5 times. I run back to the church. We wait there for around 10 minutes when I get tired of it and take a look around. Behind the church I see a player pretty far away and spray a mag in that direction then run behind cover. Didn't know whether or not I even damaged him but we are still just looking around. Bored as heck, and defeated from the wheel hunt, my friend takes off in that direction when sniper shots starts going off around him. He turns around but still got shot 3 times and died almost instantly. Thats when I finally spotted the sniper in the tree-line directly south of us. After looking over the wall in third-person and having no view of the hidden sniper I suddenly see two players run south past the tree-line. I figured that was the sniper and the friend. So I immediatly give chase, wanting revenge and not really caring for my life. But the sniper was still hidden in a bush and got 2 shots on me almost instantly, so I was down. As I was in shock or whatever he suddenly sprints up to where I am thinking I am dead. He gets closer and closer with a revolver and when he is pretty much right on top of me I exit shock with only 400 blood left and still bleeding. Then he pops a revolver round into my head and I am dead. Didn't really care. Also, we were pretty mad because due to his bad aim, he shot the car at least 4 times and it exploded. Later that day we are at the Krasnostav Airfield looking for loot and looking at vehicle spawns on another server. No loot so we head west, heading towards the NW Airfield but staying in the high northern region forest, hitting deer stands when I spot a red thing in the forest/hill ahead. And bang, right there, a fully repaired, full tank, and medium-stocked loot UAZ red car is there. Excited, we go to it and drive out of the forest going painfully slowly on the grass (15 I think) Even on the dirt road we barely went 30. But we finally hit a real road and start to go towards the airfield. Feeling protective we go left of the airfield and park it in the forest. My friend stays at the car while I go to the airfield alone. I check out the barracks, find a M24 for my friend, head towards the firestation when many shots ring out. I tell my friend to come pick me up close to the airfield and then all of a sudden when he gets into the forest nearing the airfield, a sniper shoots the tank of the car and the whole think blows up. I continue to head that way when 4 shots ring out and I am instantly dead. So we had that car for about, 3 hours. A few days later, we both die and respawn. Me at Balota, him at Elektro or Cherno. He finds an actual PBX with decent fuel, probably just spawned. He gets and naturally it starts raining. So now on his way to pick me up, he gets down to 27 Celsius and of course, gets an infection. We still take the PBX for a joy ride up the coast, and manage to get anti-biotics then once we park it near Berenzino we get shot at instantly and both die. Had that for about 3 hours. Now days later again(current life actually), we both spawn near Cherno, make a nice loot run, go to Balota, nice loot there again, M14 Aim for me, and a AKM for him. Instead of going straight north after Balota, I said, "Hey lets go along the coast this time instead of straight north." He says ok and we head towards Komorovo. I hear shooting and go into a small forest near Komo, and he continues to the warehouse. I spot a player to the left of me but lose him shortly after. Now im at the treeline, him at the warehouse. Then suddenly, he screams out..A TRUCK! AN OFFROAD TRUCK! AT THE WAREHOUSE! Me, stunned look over there and spot it. He starts going down the stairs of the warehouse, and me watching it. Then all of a sudden the engine revs' up and him yelling to take the tires out I start pouring 2 mags of DMR rounds into it. The truck driver is for whatever reason, a complete dipshit or something and stops going north, gets out and we lose sight of him. So now the truck is just in the middle of the field, inbetween the town and warehouse. My friend, wanting the truck too bad, simply sprints out into the field and hops in it. I figured I had busted a tire or something but no, the entire truck is 100% fueled, and in all green parts, thus, earning the first owners name to, for us, retarded person that repaired the truck. My friend takes no shots and drives directly west. I go behind the warehouse and pick up a wheel and Jerrycan and head along the post. Shortly after I meet my friend in our new bitchin' truck and eventually drive north, up to the airfield. Blah-blah-blah, hide the truck, go the NW airfield, etc, then due to a server update, restart, or it being stolen, we lose it. Had it for about a day and a few hours. Now after the truck was stolen we see one of the most retarded, but funny, things ever. We head to the airfield again and as we pass a road going parallel of the airfield I suddenly hear an engine in the distance. We quickly go to a tree and whadya know, a (hacked in) vehicle, going top speed along the road. I pop up and shoot at it with my M14 although I somehow miss all my shots even though it went RIGHT past us. The car was a http://www.arma2.com/arma-2-vehicles/chernarussian-civilian-vehicles_en.html Offroad car. We continue on our way to the airfield. Then on our way back from the barracks near the hangars and firestation, I hear yet another engine and its a goddamn bus. Just riding along the airfield. Right in the middle. Without a care in the goddamn world. Bewildered, we leave, fearing people would camp it. Which people did. About 3 hours later, we make another trip to the airfield. This time its night-time but luckily I found a pair of NVGs' in the barracks that we hit. Since its now night, I figure we should hit all the buildings including every hangar along the way. So we do the usual route of Baracks, Firestation, Control Tower, then each hangar one by one. On our third hangar, in the bottom left corner or corner closest to us heading in the direction from the firestation, (hearing our shots earlier he was pointed at the otherside of the hangar, waiting for us) was a person. I immediatley start lighting him up along with my friend with his M4A3 CCO. He shot, but somehow missed us. Anyways, he is now dead, with my friend who I accidentally shot in the leg bleeding and in need of morphine. Luckily the guy we killed had nice loot, including a GPS, mags for our guns, and a blood bag. Then in the next hangar is a another guy in the same exact spot although when I saw him it looked like he was looting the pile right next to him. So now he is dead. But he didn't have anything we didn't have. Next hangars are empty so we head to the next barracks when my friend spots the bus. (Although I have no idea how due to it being almost pitch black for him) We connect the dots of the guys in the hangars camping it so we head to the barracks and after a quick loot run through there we go back to the bus. Its in decent condition with wheels in yellow and engine in yellow. I hop in as driver and start going straight cross-country to get outa there. No shots are fired at us as we leave and we end up on a road. So I check the loot. It had pretty amazing stuff. 2 Ghillies, MK48 with mags, tons of medical supplies, 2 tents, anti-biotics, food, drinks, about 10 DMR mags for me, etc etc. My friend wanted to keep driving it and hide it but I figured it would take so long to get to any good hiding spot that I say it isn't worth it. So I opt to shoot it until it explodes. Wasted about 3 mags on it and only managed to flatten two tires. Now, me feeling stupid, but still with phat l00tz, log off a distance away. Although sadly we logged off a tiny bit too soon and our characters didn't save with the Ghillies. As of right now these are all my experiences with vehicles. (As a final note the next day, or yesterday, we found a tent with 9 NVGs' and 3 Ghillies, so it was fine in the end.)

2 quick questions: How fixed is the spawn location of vehicles? Is it always the exact same spot/orientation or can it spawn randomly somewhere near the area it usually spawns? And do they make noise when they spawn? Like engine noise that shuts off quite quickly?

Tents need to be removed...
[email protected] replied to ANCD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles should also be removed, they make it too easy to get around the map in a timely manner. Very unrealistic. -
Ok, let me cut this straight, I'm a hacker, and yes you can flame me how much you want, but I won't care or stop hacking, and here is why: I hack to help people. So, this is a touchy subject, this might cause flame wars, but please refrain from that, and moderators: if you want to delete this topic, go ahead, I have your full understanding. Anyways, to really get into the minds of the hackers to tell why they hack, you need to be a hacker, fortunately, I am one. There are three kinds of hackers I have observed: 1. The friendly ones: These guys usually come around to help people off in the start then leave them on their own, as they know that the start from getting a gun and survive is hard. 2. The sandboxers: These guys just roam around minding their own business, a bit lone wolf style, while just having fund playing with the vehicles and the ArmA engine. These guys rarely ever deliberately grief, but it may happen while playing around. 3. The griefers: These are the ones who are hated, the ones who are most disgusting, they deliberately kill people, turning people into cows, break legs and all that shit, even me as a hacker feel disgusted meeting one of these. I am 1. And 2. If I go on your server, I won't do anything of harm, but people don't understand, if we, 1s and 2s, wanna have fun, let us, we don't do damage to the server, and we (nr1:s) will most likely help you find the nr3:s. I've even had one occasion where I drived around in my Abrams, then this guy pops up, so I stop and look at him, letting him know I could see him, then I just stood there as he picked up a rocket launcher and everything, as I didn't know the intention, I just aimed the machine gun at him while waiting. He fired the rocket launcher and I mowed him down. [TL;DR] I only kill if I am shot at (with the intent of killing) and I will always await your decision before shooting. To sum it up: I think you should have more tolerance to the hackers who want to have fun playing around or helping, and keep the anger for the third group. And yes, I made an account JUST TO SAY THIS. Hope you understand and have a great day.

In all honesty, since the mod is in alpha (Yes, I'm actually using that excuse) and since Rocket and the DayZ development team are working on the standalone release of the game, there's no need for a wipe. When I play DayZ, I view it as training for the "real game" - that is, the standalone release. While attachment to your items and to your characters is an important aspect of the survival theme of the game, it's very hard to maintain that attachment when, in the back of your mind, you know it's all going to disappear eventually, whether by your own stupidity, a bandit raid, or Rocket's almighty Delete key. That being said, the only thing that we're going to be able to take with us when DayZ is released is the experience and knowledge of how the game works. Everything from basic survival concepts (how to eat food, where to find weapons, not to scream loudly into your microphone while you run through Cherno) to more advanced concepts of the game (the art of hiding your vehicles and tents, finding a nice sniping position, how to move quickly and quietly through a city.) That knowledge is worth a lot more than your AS50 and NVGs. After all, if I ran up to a complete noob on the coast and gave him a DMR, he'd probably lose it in five minutes because he wouldn't know how to calculate bullet drop, where to find ammo for it, and how to properly conceal yourself when you're sniping. This mod is a giant psychological learning experience. Wait until release before you become attached to your guns.

Why do regular/recruit servers exist?
panque replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Get back to CoD? Why should he? Nothing he said suggest that he want's this game to be like CoD or "arcady". It was quite the other way around. Stupid answer really. Third person should never have been an option, but now it's much too late. Most of the community will be displeased without the ability to look over cover while not risking their asses. I don't give a damn about crosshairs, They're a bit lame and doesn't fit the mod's focus on realism, but it doesn't bothers me that much. NAMETAGS MUST GO! Absolute lamest thing on regular servers. Not only you can use it to find people and vehicles you otherwise wouldn't, but it also does the job of the rangefinder, one of the rarest items in the game (for good reason). The only legit use of nametags I can think of would be for friend identification (See signature), but it still shouldn't show the distance. Anyone who defends the use of nametags the way they are now completely misses the point of this game. Edit: Maps shouldn't show your position, unless you have a GPS, an those should be a bit more common IMO. Still shouldn't work like a freaking radar showing the position of zeds, vehicles and other players. Waypoints should work as an arrow on the mini-map (maybe even showing the streets you should drive through if you are in a car). -
Wipe all tents...
Sgt Abraham Ford replied to Sgt Abraham Ford's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well the gear on each character wouldn't be entirely necessary to get rid of to destroy all of the the excess rare items in circulation. Though, I certainly wouldn't mind losing my fully decked out character and tents and vehicles if it meant balancing the game for everyone. It's odd to me that some folks would rather keep their gear that can be reattained with a bit of work and see the survival atmosphere die as a result. It's good to see people that agree with me for different reasons, and good to see others disagree as well. I just wish I could understand the selfish desire to hang on to a bit of gear and sacrifice the balance and integrity of the mod as a whole.
