Other things to do... 1. go to the coast and counter snipe the very people you complain about 2. camp stary or NW airfield waiting for server hoppers to kill. 3. look for camps 4. look for and repair vehicles. if none of these things entice you and you're looking for some hug it out session with complete strangers who have no reason to trust you, and no real threat to defend against other than other players, you're playing the wrong game. The ever growing list of servers and continued success of arma 2 sales contradict your claim of failure, and even if that were true, so be it. The game is a sandbox. Stop trying to impose structure to it. Its not about structure, and never will be.

can we make it so clan groups dont just rape everything ?
Goldfish (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just loot the clan camps and vehicles when they're mid mission. Be carefully they haven't posted guards etc. I've got a fair bit of high end tech, and I haven't ventured anywhere near the NW airfield. I was killed today (glitch of death) so had to run back from the south to retrieve my body. I came across 2 seportate camps less and half a mile between them. Took what I needed and left them some lovely meat and ammo (I thought two meat stakes was a good price for NVG) They had some pretty nice stuff in there but I didn't need it, retrived my DMR from my body so I'm happy anyway. To whome a brokerd this incredably fair deal, Thank you, but you didn't need 3 pairs of NVG's. Also, joyriding clan vehicles is rather amusing, especially when you start getting shot at and write them off :D -
Same problem here... Got version 0.7.2. on and tents/vehicles are not syncing/despawning! Tried to save them more and more, waited up to 60 mins, but it doesnt work! I read other posts here where all works fine....?!?!?

100+ jerry can full tank
Grazhny Bratchny replied to zeu77455's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If it takes 100 20-liter cans to fill up a helicopter then clearly the tank capacity is 2000 liters, which seems to be quite a lot for a helicopter the size of the UH-1H. In general the tank sizes on vehicles is kind of screwy in this game, as well as fuel efficiency.... For example, I know that a motorbike in real life can get up to 20 km per liter, but the motorcycle in DayZ has a tank capacity of 30 liters yet has a range of less then 20 km according to the wiki, and the experience I've had in game seems to confirm that most vehicles in DayZ are ridiculously fuel inefficient even with completely repaired engines and fuel tanks. -
Tents and vehicles gear isnt saving at all now, its getting rolled back to a previous state. Happened to my char inventory too but not all the time. This is groundhog day now so pointless playing as cant make any progress.

Also, in fact, you are welcome to come back and play and see how I don't kick people very often. Most times I warn someone with a server message that they will be kicked due to high ping, offensive name, or disrupting the game. I urge you, try to connect tonight when I am on as admin and you will see NO ONE get kicked unfairly. As a matter of a fact, please connect and play all week so I can show you how I don't kick without reason, and how much fun we have on the server. Now that I know you weren't the hacker, please join me on teamspeak, I will explain everything to you and we can joke around! If you play enough, I will even show you where my camp is so you can see how I don't have a horde of vehicles and also, that mostly on my server everyone jokes around and the regulars are all very friendly. Just yesterday one of my regulars was really upset that someone stole their vehicle and they wanted me to kick the person, which I did not.

can we make it so clan groups dont just rape everything ?
[email protected] replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play in a group and I won't lie at one point or another have everything. But there are other groups (shout out flipstyles and the gang) who don't run the server aren't in a group with the admins and repeatedly give us a run for our money, we steal vehicles back and forth from each other and keep moving camp locations. The only real response to organisation is your own organisation. As many have said join a clan, just know it's not without it's own issues. -
Try saving the tent more than once, sometimes it doesn't register properly. Sometimes servers are rolled back to earlier points so things on the server can sometimes revert to their previous states, although there are a few more problems with the newest patch which should be fixed soon. As for more vehicles/bikes and covers, take a look in the suggestions forum.

East replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
omfgitsfrag, this could ruin some of your fun, but organize yourselves, get a GPS for each member, and do a co-ordinated grid by grid search of the north, and west, and you'll come across all those lost vehicles. Don't even have to do it all at once, just assign a strip of longitude or latitude to each member and they can do it whenever they have the time. Works almost too well. -
Sooo any ideas when this will be fixed, tested it out again a few days ago and still things are being wiped from the tent when a server is reset/restarted w/e you want to call it. I just started pretty much PVP in the large cities until these are fixed, no point in working for 2 hours if everything is gone after a restart? Also would like to see either more vehicles or more bikes... along with a car/vehicle cover (to hide them better) BUT MOST importantly please fix the tents or find a better solution to storing equipment, these things are way to glitchy.

A few suggestions from the squad's quartermaster: 1) READ: INVENTORY WARNING! When an inventory store space is full, the game still allows you to drop whatever it is you're trying to deposit in, but it'll get eaten (or something else will, sometimes it's random). Now the item doesn't actually vanish, but is teleported to some random location. My team has lost some rather valuable items to vehicles "eating" them, or, worse, tents. Perhaps a mechanic that doesn't allow you to do this, or at least warns you? And if that doesn't work, maybe a small counter next to inventory names when you've got them open to show their current loaded status. For example, at the top of the menu it'd say something like "Ural: 0/10 3/50 17/200", first number's the packs it can carry, second is the weapons/tools, and third is everything else. This way a player can see if there's room beforehand. 2) Lockable tents. I hate tents. They're stationary, vulnerable, small, and compared to something like a Ural they're horribly inefficient. The main benefits are the low profile, frequency, and camouflage. But I feel there should be something more to it. Perhaps, when the squad mechanic is implemented, you could lock them up (bypass with a toolkit) to restrict access by players not in the tent creator's squad. Or there could be a set number of keys that can be traded between players for a specific tent. Then again, if I'm being practical, I'd just like a capacity boost for the tents, which would be much easier and keep with the vulnerability of all server side (and client side) items. 3) Keep the magazine, spend the ammo. What with the dozens of types of the same caliber ammo in different mags floating around, maybe it'd be easier to require players to take loose ammunition and fill magazines themselves. When a full mag is emptied, the empty mag goes back into their inventory, and must be refilled or discarded. Magazines should then be somewhat more difficult to find than ammo, particularly for rarer items. This would solve the issue of there being five or six types of ammo of the same caliber. I'm not sure how this could be modified to prevent it from negatively impacting the mass-storage inventory system, where each individual round would take up a single slot in a tent/vehicle. Maybe putting them in stacks of 5 (a common denominator for all that caliber's magazines)? C&C appreciated.

Every day another thread, another circular discussion going nowhere because the discussion is based upon a fundamentally flawed premise: that there are two types of people in DayZ - survivors and bandits. Nobody ever wants to account for the fact that most players are somewhere in between. I do all of the things people seem to claim they want from the "survivor" portion of this game - I travel with companions, I share food, water and equipment, I bandage wounds and apply blood bags and epi-pens, I defend my friends from zombies and players, I cooperate to build and repair vehicles, I search for high-value loot, I've explored every inch of the map, I help new players learn the game and acquire basic tools for survival, etc. I do all of this every day I play the game. But, I do it with people I know and trust. If I don't know you and don't trust you and you run up on my squad expecting a high-five and a hug? You're going to get whipped into a fine paste by my M249. Is that a flaw in the game design? That I don't want to be best friends with every stranger that sidles up to me unannounced? I say no. I say a flaw would be some system of arbitrary and artificial restrictions and rules that would force me to be friends with you even though I don't want to. There are reasons I don't have more friends than I do already, and I don't want to play a game that forces me to make more. The day rocket adds some mechanic to force me to team up with every Cheeto-fingered, Mt. Dew-swilling ne'er-do-well who plays the game is the day I retire. I've tried cooperating with random strangers I meet in the game. They run when they should walk, stand when they should crawl, shoot when they should wait, approach when they should stay back, lack communication skills, basic terrain knowledge, map-reading skills, etc. This usually results in my death or the death of a friends from either friendly fire or a zombie or hostile player that was alerted to our presence due to the actions of this stranger. It's not worth it. I don't want to be friends with you, okay? I don't want to cooperate with you. I have my squad and we're full so go away or face the consequences, eh? The real meat of the issue is that people aren't used to playing games where trust and reliability matter so much. In WoW if you get a random dungeon finder with some assholes who don't know what they're doing, big deal. You lose a bit of item durability and 45 minutes. Okay, no biggie. In DayZ so much more is on the line. Many hours, days, months of play and survival. I'm sitting on Day 48 with 1200 zombie kills and you want me to put that in the hands of any old jackanapes who pops his head up and says "friendly!"? Not a fucking chance. rocket can do all he can to support and encourage cooperation, but he can't "game design" you into human relationships. You have to find those yourself, work on them on your own and then use them in the game to your advantage.

Spawning in Novy half under the house is something ive seen people doing on multiple servers, not just this one. As for kicking players, ive never seen that happed EVER and as for the vehicles, ive got no clue what your trying to say. Either back up your 'dodgy' events with proof or people will just think your claims are 'dodgy'.

can we make it so clan groups dont just rape everything ?
East replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What you don't understand is that having all the cool stuff doesn't make the game more fun. Quite the opposite. We're a big group that have all the good things in the game, from vehicles to equipment and loot. Does this make the game more fun? No, most of us in the group agree that the game was more fun when we were just starting out and we had played for weeks without even hearing an ATV. Now that these things have become commonplace, they have lost their charm, it's become a game of just maintaining your position at the top, which is mainly a lot of hard work and not much pure survivalist fun. We have even taken vehicles and driven them down to Elektro and Cherno just so more people will be driving around in our vehicles, like we do, instead of just parking them in one place, but those vehicles are of course never seen again as someone just parks them on the map border somewhere. On the rare occasions when someone other than us comes driving in a vehicle, the game is pure fun and excitement once more. Trust me when I say that us in groups who have "everything" is not playing a more fun game than you who struggle to get by. -
can we make it so clan groups dont just rape everything ?
dgeesio posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
well if your in said group or clan and have your own server 99 percent of time you know these guys have everything. they have the vehicles the guns duped shit the whole shabang. if you either random public player or small one two player group you havent really got much chance of getting the best stuff the majority of the time how can DayZ be adjusted to stop clans groups just raping duping shit for the shake of the game ? any suggestions . remember theres more lone players or small groups that clans and people who run server but these are the very players who do control shit. just trying to make the game more fun for all instead of the group that actually owns the server ;) -
Something very dodgy occurred minutes ago. Anyways I have been on my character for a few days now, got some decent gear and was ready to survive on my own. Got to Berezino and decided to get some supplies as I was walking into one of the apartments my character randomly teleported to some new zone or debug zone. I literally saw dozens of characters a car and a helicopter all in one location. It was a massive shoot fest. I crapped myself not knowing what the hell happened. Either way everyone was shooting like crazy. It was night time and all you could see was gun fire. Ended up getting killed. Very disappointed. Literally the whole server was teleported to this one location with vehicles and helicopters. By far the worst bug I have ever encounted. Feel sorry for all those survivors who have been on weeks without getting killed and then getting finished off by a bug.

Empty all tents and vehicles every X days
[email protected] replied to tobiassolem's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
simple just reset every server and every character once a week. Were testing the game not playing happy campers. Server reset once a week for everyone, remove all tents, vehicles, tank traps. Every Sunday Night would be Epic from this day forward. -
Can anyone tell me how often vehicles reset ..i have a truck in my camp and i am thinking of removing the gear and trying to tent it in case the truck goes poof ...I have had it a week this evening ....thanks!
-
I realize this is controversial, so I am expecting a lot of "no" from both dupers and non-dupers alike. The idea is to prevent item duping in tents and vehicles. Since Rocket has claimed it is not possible to fix it in DayZ - more radical measures need to be made, and this is one suggestion.

Hackers on US 922 (video included)
SgtSalisbury replied to Rhinoceroscity's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The videos are uploading now....I will post links later when they are done. Essentially, Andrew told me he helps gear up and transport new spawns with his hacked in gear/vehicles. I played along so I could get him on video spawning gear. And it worked brilliantly. Unfortunately the videos are broken up into 30 seconds clips since I only have the trial version of fraps. -
Keep in mind that tents and vehicles save to the spesific server you are on when you save them at location. You can bring tents across servers if packed down in your intentory, but onces they are pitched and saved they stay on the server you put them up on. Vehicles are bound to server, naturally. So yeah, apart from tents and vehicles, your DayZ existence is tied to one central server, so that you can jump back and forth between game servers with the same character and the same gear.
-
That would be neat if the engine could do it. But for it to be a vehicle and provide meat might be hard to make work.... Vehicles are great but I don't mind going around without one

I have numerous camps spread over three servers. All within the intended map. They have served me well the last two weeks; The only items I have lost are items I have added to a full tent as a result of not counting properly (make sure you know how many general items and weapons/tools you have in your tent at any given time). My last camp have been up on a 1.7.2.4 server the last 2 days, and is working beautifully. I experienced a few glitches in my first camp tied to packing down tents and then having the packed bag being eaten by the server, but in my case I have grown to trust my tents once they are pitched up and running. Just remember to save. So I would say it is safe, yes. Besides, the only alternatives you have are to either use vehicles (which are not as readily available) or to not store items at all. Tents are very practical, and it's also fun to scout out good camp locations, and to eastablish bases, homes.

My friends and I have been playing DayZ for a little over a week now and we have fallen in love with this game. I do have a few knocks and one my biggest is the lack of transportation. This map is huge and the time it takes to get from point A to Z is very time consuming. Usable vehicles are never in sight and are often hiding is the most obscure places by other players. So my suggestion, and it may not be feasible, is to add horses into the game. They can be as fast as bicycles and still need items to function properly such as saddles, feed, and water. There is a huge amount of farmland so it would make sense that there would be at least a few horses running around. You could make their locations random. instead of being destroyed you can have them die and even provide meat. What does everyone think?

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
bennyxg replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Hm.. we have the same problem with vehicles/tents not saving correctly and heli going back to the island our hoster confirmed that 0.7.2 is installed
