Suggestion: High-power flashlight as non-lethal weapon
A.Shephard posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hi, this is my first post on DayZ Forum so I apologize for any error and for my (bad) english. I think I have a good idea that could expand a bit DayZ gameplay and personal game-planning. I'm talking about a non-lethal weapon called Maxa Beam searchlight that operates as disorienting and temporary blinding device. It appears as a big and heavy handled searchlight that can be used also (and espacially) during the daylight in order to blind zombies for few seconds or make them run away. Here's the website from which I get the idea: http://www.peakbeam.com/ This serachlight wouldn't be useful during night because it could be easily spotted from long distances and aggro zombies from behind the player and his sideways, even though it keeps blinding zombies/players looingk at the beam. However, if pointed at the sky, it will help to report your position to friends (and foe). The maxa beam should have an operating angle of 35°-45° in which the light works. Outside that angle, the beam won't blind. Range should be from short to medium (20m - 50m I guess) depending on the battery charge. I think this could be a great strategy-grade weapon that can be used in a lot of different situations: engaging an enemy, exploring blocks silently and easily, fallback from critical positions, escape a large number of angry zombies without noticing etc. Someone should say: "Hey it's like that crappy flash light featured in BF3!". Well it's very different, first because it consumes batteries, second cause it can't be held with other weapons (maybe with the secondary gun, depending on staff decisions), third because it should be from rare to very rare in military barracks (actually this device is equipped by some special forces for real). Now I try to summarize the maxa beam traits: Rarity: Rare/Very Rare (a bit more common for batteries) Effective range: 20 to 50 meters (depending on battery charge) Operating angle: 35/45° (possibly, also this depending on batteries) Battery life: I suggest 200 seconds of constant lighting Spawns: Barracks and, why not, heli crashes Noise: Not at all Slots: I suggest 2 slots both for the Maxa beam and battery (4 total). When equipped should replace primary weapon. Effects on zombies: prevent them from follow you by blinding them for 4-5 seconds/make them run away from the light for few seconds Effect on players: blind as long as the player looks at the beam I think it would be also cool if the searchlight can be attached to vehicles (like ATV or cars) Well those were my ideas, hope you appreciate! Of course the staff can shape the suggestions as they consider them properly for a possible entry in DayZ. Let me know what you think about this! Thanks ;) -

3000 blood, are you taking the biscuit? Do you want to have airbags so you can add them to vehicles? -
One type of gear I would like to see added is camo netting. With the advent of helos flying around ingame it is easy to have vehicles spotted and tent locations spotted and therefore the larger groups that have started controlling servers (at least the ones I have been on) will continue to grab all the vehicles and move them up north or out west on the maps and they generally have a monopoly on the best ingame storage units. So Camo Netting is my suggestion.

LU15 - Server thread
EvilFurryOne (DayZ) replied to EvilFurryOne (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thanks to our busy members we've enjoyed the occasional trucks and other vehicles, have had access to constant flow of hi end gear (sadly due to tents it's all totally common now) and I do belive few choppers as well. Due to the prevalence of anti-material snipers they wont live long though so we tend to use them using the moto "life is short (48mins on averatge) so have fun :) PVP wise really if there is interest we could actually try to organize some fun events (ofcourse we need to be ready that someone will spoil the fun). But I have no problems charging green mountain with wincherster or having a sidearm fight in cherno. Ambush a vehicle on some stretch of road etc. Defend an important piece of intel someone needs to steal etc. Just needs some organizeing and Nigel has a TS as well so we can all have the event there. Vehicle are tricky as they tend to dissapear from our "hiding spots" during the night. I think it's a bug :D Tents sadly dont dissapear whatever you do with them. after restart they back and mostly full of hi end loot. -

Are tents and vehicles always saved correctly on this server? Our little clan might switch over if that's the case. -
Haha it's on like donkey kong!! I wasn't there for said battle but may there be many more. PS we aren't scripters, but have been killed & lost vehicles to them numerous times

Got an even better story for you... 3 days ago I accidentally on purpose hit my mate with a minivan cause he wouldnt stop bitching about not getting to drive any vehicles... After we patch him and his little broken bones back up... he starts coughing. I couldnt stop laughing and put a bullet in his head. 2 days ago me and another group of mates(6) were driving in a bus up and down the coast handing out as50s, l85s and mk 48s to people along the coast. Then we got shot at in cherno, 3 people were shot.. no casualties. We park the bus along the cape and... 2 of them start coughing... FROM BULLET WOUNDS.. yes I understand in this zombie apocalypse where scavenging and storage of items is difficult to come by and mose bandits prolly stash them where the sun dont shine... but dear god. Is nothing sterile in a zombie apocalypse? Luckily we had over 10+ boxes of antibiotics after the curious case of the minivan accident. -
U.B.C.S. Server. (US128, US167 & US302) -5GMT 50 Slots with TS3!
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Had a wave of hackers roll through US128 and we had to do a sudden restart to clean up all the buildings and vehicles they had spawned. We apoligize for anyone who lost their equipment during this incident. We encourage all of our members to go and get a screen capture software. (Like FRAPS) and try to catch the person who is hacking through FRAPS. A name is needed however to go along with the FRAPS so we know who we are looking at to ban and send their GUID to Dev Staff. Regards, Ravin, Also, any tents lost in the incident should have been rolled back automatically due to the current DayZ problem with saving tents. So if a hacker demolished your campsite, its very likely back with the restart or next restart at.... 6am. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
hulahuga replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Most of these suggestions are very good and in line with what I've been thinking. Especially the system of bullets being more valuable, albeit powerful, each shot will be both a sacrifice and a gain in its own right (as well as having bullet pouches were you can gather a variety of different ammunition that might be used one at a time depending on what weapon that you want to use). The current UI of ArmA is a great hinderence for this, but you could probably just add an extended scaleform UI or something on top of it and be quite fine for now :) Common weapons should be much more common and varied, with assault rifles and similar things being much rarer (as described in a thread of mine) <--- This is something that can be done now. More varied forms of finding food and equipment, whilst making it more valuable by making it drop less is also something interesting. If we were to combine this, the ammo and weapon suggestions, and perhaps cannibalism you would get a situation much closer to The Road (Cormack McCarthy). One thing I do not agree on is however the vehicle changes that you propose. You say that you want a shitload of vehicles on ever server, and I just think that would be too much. I think however that you should have much more vehicles than right now, with a bit more cleaned up roads (leave the blockades to the players and zombies to create). These vehicles would however reflect the real world and be constituted of a higher number of more common cars, only that you need to choose which ones to waste fuel on (tanks would just be too powerful in my opinion). They could just vary in their state of (dis)repair. Some vehicles would still remain completely destroyed, but I still think that if you find a just slightly ruined car you should be able to fix it up, only at a higher cost, than a car found in better fashion. Cargo planes and other large vehicles (perhaps their wrecks) would however be able to constitute very good town/base/camp centres, and with some rigorous repairs then who knows, cargo planes could take people, equipment and vehicles from airfield to airfield, albeit at a very large fuel cost. And yes, I fully agree on that the damage system needs a serious improvement, right now tires can be wiped completely just by hitting a tiny rock. You should be able to drive over smaller stuff without any issue really. You shoudl also be able to fix flat tires by simply giving them more air and patching them up, if not filling up a slightly ajar tire by filling it up numerous times on your way to the repair place (simply somewhere were you can patch it up or get a new tire). Note: Your thoughts on food are interesting, but I don't think that they would constitute that much of a gameplay changer as it stands right now. It is however something interesting that might be implemented in some way after everything else is done ;). PS: I can actually get working on some more weapons, equipment, clothing and stuff that the mod can use (right now) if they would like me to (already sent in a request, but have yet to receive a reply). -
DE 188 - Competitions / Thunder Dome
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ideas so far: Russian Roulette DayZ Style 6 admins place 6 Satchel Charges dressed in identical Ghilles who then shuffle. 2 Survivors choose a satchel charge to stand on (suitably spaced) then take it in turns to designate an admin to detonate their satchel charge. First one to get 'sploded looses :) Bear trap speed run, 2 Competitors have to navigate a bear trap maze to get to the prize tent. Last one to the tent gets shot in the head by our resident sniper =p (Assuming they didn't mess up and hit a trap in which case they will be left to bleed out) Lucky Dip Similar to the Hatchet Arena but there will be a few tents, some MAY contain firearms, some MAY contain ammo, some may contain both, some may have empty tin cans. There WILL be a single hatchet and crowbar in the centre, take your chances. Zombie Coral We have a concept that will allow us to heard multiple zombies using flares from nearby deer huts which we will coral into fenced off areas. If this works we'll have one man vs a horde with a random weapon decided by means yet to be decided. Then like I say we plan on doing some other bits for those less willing to die like treasure hunts (we'll stick a tent with loot somewhere with some clues) or car races round a preset track, vehicles supplied. -

Yeah i've been looking around. I don't see anything like I want though, just spawn locations for various loot/vehicles and special interest locations. I wish I knew how to do it, or what type of program I'd need to use. I could probably learn myself but don't know where to start :( -
HOW do I know if a tent is going to work or not?
timohepolis replied to Gashed's topic in New Player Discussion
at this moment, there´s a 50/50 chance depending on servers that tents/vehicles are syncing fine or not. have the same problem with our server since three days...waiting vor serverupdate 1.7.2.5. so there´s no possibility to fix it by yourself...or to figure out, which server running fine with that or not -
What to do when you've got all the gear besides killing people like an asshole
[email protected] replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I completely agree that bandits must exist, an it really does add to the tension of the game which is necessary. What I don't like is that, for all intents and purposes, literally everybody is a bandit, largely because everybody thinks everybody else is a bandit. Even one of my friends is inadvertently becoming one-he guns down everybody he sees more or less (unless I can convince him otherwise), convinced they're probably bandits. But as he does so he's also convinced he is definitely not a bandit. Only way to combat this is, if you dont consider yourself a bandit, don't shoot people. And somehow make all your friends do the same. Then the relatively few die hard bandits will still be a threat, but you don't have to be terrified of every person you see, whether they talk to you or not. Also, there's literally tonnes of things to do at 'end game'. Unfortunately the permanency is still buggy at the moment (tents vehicles etc.) which means long term goals are a little difficult to realise. Once they get this stuff sorted, prepare for the rise of the Chernorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, the first state in the New Soviet Union. -
Sometimes it takes more than one server restart for vehicles to come back. Make sure you record the location and check back after another restart.

Okay guys I got ACRE to work flawlessly. Take that rocket! I win you loose! All you needed to do was to add a if command in dayz_server right before it publishes data to Hive, alternatively you could also make a MySQL trigger to replace Ex: ACRE_PRC117F with a regex replace. And, I made a simple pbo with a config.bin inside of it that inherits stuff Cfg's from other vehicles and adds ACRE vehicle racks into them with built-in radio's that cannot be removed since Hive is not setup to track vehicle radios, then I chose to override your building loot classes, and zombie loot classes to add realistic radio spawns. Take that, I just solved all your problems! Im the clear winner here.( yes, it was a competition)

US 1547 Admin kicking and Banning
Siggy (DayZ) replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This has happened to me 2 mate, had a camp and a few vehicles the other day, then all of a sudden the servers shuts down, restarts and has a ping limit, we couldn't even get on with 190 ping so who knows, i don't get why they put ping limits on servers, it's stupid. -
Someone suggested something very interessting (at least for me). The idea is assuming that tents and vehicles are saved in the hive. Why not save them on each server? If there are more than a million tents, than there are more tents than unique players in the game. This is crazy! It's probably because of duping (Intentional and bugs). Tents and vehicles are only the buisness of the according server. There is no need to save them in a central database beside security and preventing admin exploits. The same goes with barbed wire, sandbags etc. Saving those things for one server should be easy (in my opinion). Saving all those things on a central server isn't. If those things are already saved on each server indevidually, than I can't really see why there are still so many horrible bugs and exploits. @bola: Censor your link please. Don't make advertising for the site!!!

US 1547 Admin kicking and Banning
Deathcall replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Since I live really far away from any of the servers, I usually play with a ping over 250. Many servers choose not to let people like me join. I'm not really mad about it, but it makes me wonder, is 250 SO BAD that I'm not allowed to play? I mean... who is affected by my ping? Worst is when servers which I was able to join before change their politics and block me out. I have lost several camps and vehicles to that. -
A few days ago a user, who for the story's sake will be called coconut, joined our teamspeak wishing to join our clan. We had a age limit which coconut did not qualify for but we said he could gladly still play with us as others have in the past. After joining the teamspeak I believe he only helped once, sort of. Even then not really. Coconut invited one of his buddies to our teamspeak. Though we didn't like it we allowed it for the sake of being nice people. While I was on the teamspeak I heard a phrase that caused his inevitable demise "hey let's camp cherno." I drew the line there. No way would I allow this bandit to walk over new players, or players in general as they are going through cherno to loot whatever they need to survive. It was my personal goal to kill these players. Me and one of my fellow comrades decided to assassinate these two players and put them in their places. They had been server hopping around this time and trying to kill players. They found their-selves a atv and proceeded to ride it around on a different server. Knowing we could never catch them without a vehicle we followed them to the best we could on our server with a vehicle. for about 2 hrs till they finally crashed the atv and almost died. They went to green mountain to check for vehicles and while their they had to log for dinner so I was ready to kill them as soon as they logged. unfortunately my comrades ping was to high to join the server so thus he could no assist me. I had only one shot at them but I didnt want to risk a 2v1 situation. Realizing that our current tatic would not work we had to get a new way to kill them, and our first objective was bringing them to our server. We said we were going to start a spec op training at *classified location*. Eventually we covinced them and they took another 2~3 hrs to repair a truck on the other server and go to *classified location* I acted like I was refilling my mystery machine (I actually did need fuel). They thought it was a trap but after several minutes they calmed down and I told them to guard me from the *classified location*. (note: during this time we prepared for their arrival my comrade was sitting at a location to snipe them). Once we were both ready I said there was some loot I wanted from the locaiton they were at so don't shoot (as they were still slightly cautious). Once I moved up and got in a spot where the couldn't escape I shot the first once while my comrade killed the second. We looted a m24, 2 m4a1 sd's, a gillie suit, and 2 coyote packs. tl;dr If your a bandit and I find out. I will hunt you down no matter how long it takes

Scripters, Hackers, have more control than me, an admin.

So my group is about 8-10 people strong, we've got all of the equipment in the game including rocket launchers, SVD camos,GPS range finders etc. We're fucking packed. My character was about 15 days old, only 2 murders and almost 500 zombie kills. Had some pretty intense missions to the airfield and a lot of close calls, it's been great. Today we got a chopper, fixed it all up and had a great time doing it! Did a mission to Cherno just after spending 30minutes fully refuelling the thing and my friend drops 2 of us of, he then proceeds to fly around just watching over and for some reason decides he needs to stop but does so far to harshly and crashes the thing in the middle of Cherno which in turn kills him and 2 teammates. The other guy I was with and I decided to head back north to get a vehicle and pick these guys up. They decide they want to romp around cherno for a while so my friend and I log out. After an hour or so, I decide to log back on and run northwards to our base and get a vehicle to do some people picking up. After a 30 minute run to base, I'm there. I go to grab some ammo pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew Some mother fucking hacker has spawned right next to me, possibly invisible, and fires at least 15 shots to kill me at pointblank range. Mother fucker... I lost my SVD camo,M4A1 SD,Range Finder,NVGs, GPS etc... Fucking ridiculous. My friends that are down on the coast then tell me they've been teleported to our fucking base along with the rest of the fucking server. Sweet, there goes all our gear and vehicles. Just talked to the server admin about it, he can't do anything about it because the logs are so fucking shit. Fuck this shit man, fuck this. -

Now we just need some camo for our hidden vehicles and tents. I was watching a stream earlier today, and the group was basically just raiding camps in their heli. The camps stood out like a sore thumb. I need to get myself a choppa.

So i was playing today for a good 4 and a half hours and i'm on day 13...i'm fully loaded with my most favorite gun m16a1 Acog scope....i ran from cherno all the way to NORTH WESTERN AIRFIELD! that took forever! then i RAN all the way back and soon as i hit the coast next to cherno i get hacked! ALL the players, about 45-48 of us, got teleported inside one room! everyone went crazy but i managed to escape! i got shot one time n fell to ground...i didn't get the hour glass or nothing my blood was not going down either...so i laid there for about 5 minutes like wtf...so i disconnected and tried reconnecting again..did SAME thing! then game froze! so i had to alt ctrl delete to close program..so now im kinda pissed off that i spent so much time into this without a single murder or bandit kill...avoided EVERYBODY i saw..including large groups with vehicles...i felt proud of myself...Day 13..and for it to end this way? i'm scared to even log back on because of the new rules of reconnecting or whatever so many times...uugh like wtf..do something with these hackers please!

I agree with OP. I'm pretty much a bandit myself, have nothing against PVP as long as it's not just killing noobs wielding flashlights at the coast... The fear of getting shot by other players and losing all your sh*t is what makes this game so intense and awesome. But the point OP is trying to make is that the end-game in DayZ is pretty much ALL about killing other players. There's really nothing else you can do but PK or possibly hoard vehicles and raid clan bases, all bandit activities.
