vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
insolentfool replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
at one point my crew had 10 vehicles at our base. You tend to lose them due to attrition from things like ambushes or server crashes. we had 2 quad bikes, found a base with 3 more and found a 6th not too far from our camp. only a day later we were down to 4, then a week later 2. now our whole stock is gone. each time someone found our base we would lose 1 or 2 vehicles and spend ages moving. Sometimes we managed to get one back. We would spend hours finding, fighting and salvaging vehicles so we deserved them just as much as anyone else. Eventually I think someone got greedy and our bases were often found minutes after moving by people on foot, even when spread to pretty sneaky locations which were miles from anything. It just got too sus considering what powers hackers have. That in combination with the dodgy server hoster leaving the server down for 6 hour blocks some days we decided to change. Keep in mind, the more vehicles and bigger the base you have the more likely it is to be found. one quad parked behind a tree in the wilderness is much harder to find then 1 Gaz, 6 quads, 1 ural , 2 hilux's and several tents. Finally the game actually gets pretty boring once you have everything, you spend more time trying to keep what you have rather then being hungry for more. You get so concerned about losing any of your awesome gear or items that you avoid as much risk as possible until you realise you're just killing time instead of actually playing. Thats when people tend to start destroying poor newbies in cherno and electro for some entertainment. Removing unlimited ammo and item duping will lengthen the gameplay time, forcing people to go to the risky areas for ammo. Still, you stop caring about "Gotta catch them all!" -
What classes as out of bounds and camo neting idea
dgeesio replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i think if the items arnt being used they should respawn hoarding everything is boring this will also keep players moving about and keep the game interesting . at the moment its just big clans and big groups winning at DayZ . get big group dupe as much stuff as possible then hide the stuff on edge of map and get all vehicles on server . then drive round in large group with full arsenal powning new players with nothing because you already looted it. hopefully duping and tent wipes and vehiles are looked into soon to stop this. -
only issue i had with your server is our camp and vehicles dissapeared repeatedly... other then that good server

LU15 - Server thread

No way?! You do?.... No way.... Really? And we thought they just "dissapear" on their own.. Who would have thought other players besides us actually look for vehicles. But yes, the vehicles are nice fun to have and easy to find again. Can't wait for extra options for us to have and do ingame. -

Becoming your typical FPS PvP game?
hoorah (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
I wouldn't call it a 'typical' fps. Maybe typical in the fact that in other FPSs, it is 'typical' to shoot other players you see when in a FFA game. In the sense that I've never seen a FPS game with an absolutely enormous map, vehicles, snipers, buildings, and zombies quite like day Z, no, its not typical. Like any other games, will you find people harassing players from a fortified position simply for amusement? Oh, definitely. -
I was just talking with some clanmates trough Mumble when they suddenly start to squeeling like crazy. They found a camp with about 4 tents all filled with some powerfull sniper rifles, ammo, gillie suits and larger backpacks. They looted the hell out of that place and got out of there like the devil was on their tail. I only just spawned for the first time so I didn't really have any idea. They told me to go to Dolina and try to find anything of use (found a winchester 1688 and a G17) later we met up at Berezino, a little bit north of the 4 military tents. They where still tense about looting that one camp (They decided to call it an admin camp since it has so much high valeu stuff in it) and me firing a random shot in the air while I'm with them scared the living hell out of them :) later when another friend found us (now a group of 4) we head for a camp they set up where a bus they have repaired is stationed. Meeting up at the camp was another friends of ours and we waited for another friend to log-in. Now a group of 6 we leave the bus in the trees and run trough the forest. Night has fallen and we don't see anything at all. so 2 guys with nightvision take point and one gets some Chem light on him so we can see him running. about 15 minutes later they yell 'CAMP!' and we all hit the deck and take off the chem light. remaining silent as possible. Even the mumble chat was quiet. after a few tense seconds we slowly crawn forward and suddenly one of the night vission guys yells 'JACKPOT!' 2 tents with some decent loot (got myself a bigger backpack and a map) and right behind it, locked off with barbed wire: 6 vehicles Couldn't be a more luckier loot for us. 2 ATV, 1 motorcycle, 1 Old Hatchback and 2 other cars I'm forgetting the name off. We called it a Hacker Camp since all 6 vehicles where fully repaired which was rather questionable. I'm completly forgetting the loot that is in the cars but we had 8 full jerry cans in the cars as well and so much food we are probably set for 2 weeks with our group. We heard a shot in the distance so we jumped in a vehicle each and drove off. laughing like crazy that we most lickly pissed some people off by stealing their cars. we drove back to where we left our bus but we lost one ATV somewhere along the way (got flipped on it side and just dissapeared.) Another clanmate joined the server playing for the first time so I tooke a detour with my car and one of the snipers and picked him up, filling up some empty jerry cans along the way and joined the rest of the clan. So the first 2 days in DayZ? 6 vehicles in total, an unrealistic amount of military grade ammo and guns and a whole lot of food. unfortunatly a hacker got in the server and we all teleported all over the place. one of our snipers ended up in Cherno and another one in Elektro, I ended up in Otmel (wherever that is). Currently we are regrouping. Vehicles: 1) http://sadpanda.us/images/1116484-UB837H4.png 2) http://sadpanda.us/images/1116483-UJ2ZNMA.png 3) http://sadpanda.us/images/1116479-XJ7M2M2.png

What classes as out of bounds and camo neting idea
leodimas replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i dont want to bring this to you, but hiding vehicles and hoarding is something not safe at the moment. there is no such thing like a base of operations. people stalk servers all day just to find camps. -
so i found a huey...
[email protected] replied to myndzha (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having not seen one yet, but knowing how other vehicles work, if you get an option to "Save" it, do so. When the server resets, it should upright the helo. However, I'm surprised that you got an option to attach the fixed parts, but again, I've never seen one directly. Also, please post the server name and coordinates so we can help you get her up and flying. ;) -
Admin abuse - What you need to know
-NoiX-JackFoda replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
US311 Admins: Kill remotely, lock the server, kick players and burn the vehicles???? Or hacks??? -
Too Long: Don't wanna read: - Create ways for guns to disapear other than the death in the middle of nowhere (by them wearing off or other possibilities). - Erase the heavy snipers from the game (Not "standard" ones) - Reduce accuracy/increase recoil of guns to improve gameplay and firefights and to simulate the "Survivor, not soldier" aspect.. I've been thinking a bit about the game as it currently is. I know features should be coming around someday, and I hope it's rather soon. As glitchy as this game is, it's still great. 1) Everything but the Guns Sink. Anyway, like many other posts, I'll complain a bit at the availability of "High end" gear/weapons that are too frequent. It's like in MMOs: Gold is earned at a fast rate, but for the in-game economy to remain good there exists "gold sinks" where gold has to be wasted. Except in this game it's guns. It's relatively easy to find a good gun when you know where to look. The only way a gun can "Disappear" is for the carrier to die in the middle of nowhere by "Natural" causes, and thanks (?) to snipers that kill for fun and don't claim loot. Sometimes, you just find a better gun and keep it so you dump the old one. But overall, the numbers of guns keeps increasing and increasing. They are kept in tents, vehicles, and generally they just change pockets, but don't go to oblivion. Furthermore, they are quite easy to keep fed with ammo for the standard ones (Stanag, .45, AK 30., 9mm mags) even when not counting the exploits to refill almost empty magazines while for harder to find (Crash sites) weapons it might be a bit harder, but for that you keep a plentiful ammo gun in your pockets, and use the special gun more scarcely. What I'd like to see is a way for either guns to become unusable (Small lifebar that goes down the more you use it, like the ammo count. A standard AK would last around 3500 shots, while a M16 2700. You could find already damaged guns) so you actually have to throw them away when they break down AND/OR much tighter loot tables AND/OR more varied weapon calibre so mags for a single category of weapon would be more scarce. 2) Friendlies in Cherno? I think, for all of us who ever shot rifles with scopes, even for a try, that it's way harder than in game. Using anti-materiel rifles while crouched, for example, is quite absurd. Even aiming is really easy, with barely any sway. With just a good eye, I can in game down a straight moving target 500-700m away without too much trouble, even without a rangefinder. Combined with the fact that 50cal rifles exist in two variants, both relatively easy to use, find (Every two downed helicopter I can find one, with plentiful ammo) and down a target in one shot... These are out of scale for the game. Sure, they could be use, as their name would suggest, as anti-materiel, but the chance of finding a moving vehicle during the day are very close to nil, so the guns are used against infantry. Here, I would simple remove the one-shot, completely overkill, sniper rifles that are out of scale. Other sniper rifles, like the DMR, might be somehow "Skill-less" too, but there need to be snipers, otherwise people would not be able to do overwatch duty, or simply keep people nervous. Ideally, there should be more bolt action, and less semi-auto, military grade weapons, but here comes 3) Overall, sniping is a bit too easy and just a paradise for grievers, as it's easy to just raise the E-pen with chains of kills, rince and repeat, but they are needed in the game. 3) Survivor or rambo? I don't know for you guys, but I'm a random joe in real life. I aim like a drunken sailor at a static target barely 100m away, when Idle, calm, and well rested/fed. Well, I might exaggerate a bit, let's just say that I do a 9/10, in those situations, with an assault rifle, and that's when knowing the basic drills. But it looks like our survivors/bandits, barely a minute after a few Km hike on elevated terrain, in cold weather, stressed, deprived of rest and sleep, with barely any food (a regime of raw meat, cold fart bean cans, lake water and soda cans), possibly wounded, high on painkillers and morphine, are able to have a very stable aim when standing and crouched, with a heavily weighted backpack. Prone, I can understand. But in the other positions, aiming should be terrible. Recoil should hit hard for most guns, not only the AKM, and long range sniping quite troublesome. The survivors aren't Soldiers or Warriors: They are guys that have been washed ashore. In this game/mod/alpha, whatever you want to call it, the weapons do "Realistic" (less so with the latest ARMA patch and damage reductions considering the survivors' blood amounts) amounts of damage to human targets. When you combine that with "Super aim", the PvP aspect is really all about being the first to aim and click, as it's just easy to shoot and kill (Not including Disconnecters, but we know the issue will be solved someday). If aiming was slightly (not dramatically) harder, firefights would become more intense, with people able to return fire. Engagements would waste more ammo, and there would me more risks. If it becomes more risky to attack someone, people would be less prone to shootin each other at first sight, disposing of the threat in an instant. Only people with actual agressive wills would shoot on sight, causing the bandits to exist as they should: A cast of players that keep the others afraid; on their toes. Against Zeds, they are already easy to dispatch by just running to the cosest building/hill anyway. Sure, it's annoying and counter intuitive, but I hope something will be done to "Fix" them eventually so they become a real threat, not just a mild annoyance. Well, that's sort of all for now. Wanted to write a 4) about the weapons damage / bullet, but apart from AK 74s stupid nerf, 9mm "more than one clip to kill a zed" and M1911 <<< Revolver due to poor accuracy, a lee enfield that barks more than bites and used to give low gears a change against high gears, shotguns that were already short range compared to reality when they actually go quite far but have been further nerfed, and One-shot easy to use snipers, there isn't much to say. Just want opinions about this wall of text, and the gameplay implications. Note if you read to that line: Good job; the others: Go on trolling as you usually do when walls of text hurt you heads, and comment the usual rubbish of "I have an opinion about something I didn't even bother to read".

Does DayZ create situations of scarcity?
semipr0 replied to miket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There can't really be a situation of scarcity since every time a server resets all the contents of tents and vehicles tend to revert to some last known good save state from the Hive which usually means anything taken out of them over the period between restarts is usually back in their inventory. Even if you're not trying to dupe things, the current Hive to server situation tends to create duping situations without you even intending to do it. Far as scarcity of spawns....it wouldn't be too much trouble to add percentile chance modifiers to food spawns, but, water is harder to deal with as a lot of the water spawns are static areas or wells. You'd need to create an entirely new database table which managed all water sources on each server on the Hive and randomly assigned a "stagnate" or "non-potable" state to the water sources and wells around the map. But even with controlling the percentile chance of food spawns, its not too hard to hunt wild life for food. So that would require another table to manage wild life spawn chances and setting different states of wild life health to manage a changing scale, based on animal health, in regards to how much usable meat it had. -
Should the Stinger Missile be added to counter the helicopters?
Snakeyes1 replied to Snakeyes1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How true and that is my only real concern with the helicopters flying again. Long range recon is a snap with a helicopter. Spot a tent camp and/or vehicles and then land and drop off a team. Raid the tents, drive away in the vehicles. Rinse and repeat. -
ok i will get rid of it ... damn it ... 2 hours trying to protect our base and the rewards are 2 dead bodies of friends , our camps are crashed , vehicles were stolen , a crash of heli and i cant hold on to G36c SD ... damn myself should have pointed m9 to my head and pulled the tricker , save me 2 hours doing nothing

I would love to know how I am a hacker, some proof would be nice, even though it doesn't exist. Is this because you didn't think yourself viable enough to be taken down by a regular player? I was a fresh spawn in Electro when the chopper was there, I simply stole a pick up truck that someone was stupid enough to leave in the centre of Electro, drove it back and forth a bit then took down the chopper with the AS 50 that I found in the truck. I later died to zombies and bleeding due to the shots I took from the Heli mini-gun when I was driving the truck. All of my actions were legitimate and I see no ground for your accusation. Also, addressing the matter of my comment: "Haha, I took down your chopper with your own AS 50" I see no reason why this is offensive? This was a massive event for me in DayZ, my first chopper kill. There's no bad language or racism, just playful banter, which you have bitterly interpreted. As for the closing of the server, I'm not too fussed if you want to farm choppers and vehicles. But kicking me from the server repeatedly after the restart seems a little uncalled for, after having done nothing against any rules. Thanks for reading, I hope you can see what truly happened. Kaldar.

Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.
phil replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
People who think every admin wants to just kick and set up camps? There are much easier ways to get gear through duping! We don't even have a camp or vehicle hoard on our server, and we prefer to just go with the flow as having shit loads of vehicles, AS50s etc is BORING and not how the game is supposed to be played. -
The third DayZ Playerbase Survey | Final Results
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to eel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nice idea, was also nice to see the previous polls and changes in between them ... I must also say that i would like multiple choice answers on the 'What don't you like in DayZ' question. There are a few things i dislike. But there are also things i DO like, why no question about that ? Last thing i wanted to mention. We currently have a startgame and the question is already about there not being an end-game... what happen to midgame?! If i were to compare this game with an RPG, we have abouts upto lvl8 gameplay, given time you may be able to count upto lvl10 in regards to various vehicles. End game usually starts when a character hits max level, around lvl60-80 ... so we are missing the amount of content that would normally fill lvl10-lvl60 gameplay !! before we would start to wonder about where the endgame is! Anyways, hope i will think of this thread again in a few weeks so i can see the outcome :) -
Should the Stinger Missile be added to counter the helicopters?
NightRipper replied to Snakeyes1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, I don't think the biggest threat helicopters pose is a lethal one. If you've ever been up in one, you'll realize immediately just how ridiculously easy it is to spot tents and vehicles. It's not that helicopters pose a physical threat, it's that they basically mean that if you thought hiding a tent or vehicle was difficult before, it's now essentially impossible. -
Just encountered 2 guys hacking on our server again, they teleported all the vehicles in the map to one poisiton, we came in our huey to investigate, shot 2 of us out with 2 shots whilst we were flying 160+kmh. The rest jumped out, and snook up the hill, then they teleported behind each of us and killed us. Then we noticed 2 players under the names "Maxim" and "Mr.Dexter" were losing connection, then all the hacking stopped. Hopefully a video will follow shortly.

We will join with a group of around 10 committed people, provided tents and vehicles save correctly. This means having the stuff in it from when you actually saved it. Also when you completely loot an enemy tent dry and take everything from it, that it's also really empty after next restart. Can you confirm this? -
I am the admin of FR 82 recruit server and the server has been up for around 2 nearly 3 weeks and i have only seen 1 vehicle and i have been running round all the vehicle spawn points with no luck of finding anything, i was just wondering if vehicles are spawning correctly or am i just doing something wrong?

There isnt an open field ... the field is right before the mountain ... and the trees dont provide that much cover on the backside of the hill ... i could spot that URAL easy ...without Binocs Didnt know you had a camp up there ... we came for 2 cars ... and we got 6 and crushed many tents ... surprising :-) Seriously calm down ... You are the only one of your group who acts like a complete retard and this is your unedited post: I'm always one step ahead of you KID ... :-) I dont get these racial comments but we actually dont need any racist 14 year old kids on our server. We are all open minded like the whole International DayZ Community itself ... maybe you should deinstall the game and invest some of your saved time in education ... I would love to ban you from the server and punch you with a global ban in your face but i prefer to shoot you in the head to make you rage even more ... When we extract the vehicles from your Base someone was chasing us on an ATV ... thought it was one of you ... whatever ... there might be a third group on the server ... SORRY FO MA LIES BRAAH Yeah ... So true ... Let's get ready to rumbleeee -
We spend the late night hours hunting for your vehicles, they don't disappear. If done "right" then yes.
-
the difference is at very long shot, 1600+ km with m107 bullet you will have to add 1 mildot more than with as50 bullet also if you use it against vehicles, as50 ammo is much more powerful.
