  1. - No, it doesn't work like that, and I'm positive you're lying or running your own server. - How can you be too "noob" to find a vehicle? You look it up on the map, it's there or it's not. There's no margin of error for finding a vehicle influenced by skill. It's there, or it isn't. You're lucky, or you're not. - Irrelevant? Grand Theft Auto? This is a post-apocalyptic zombie-ridden environment. There's going to be empty vehicles EVERYWHERE. And being in a vehicle does not make you invulnerable either. They're loud, attract other players, easily broken. I think more people just want more variety in the mod. Not this constant running by foot / get hacked / sniped / DM'ed / killed / broken leg.
  2. Hey everyone, So the past couple of hours I have been running around the Western border of the map looking for stuff. I ran into a couple of tents which didn't really have anything I wanted. Once I got to the Northern Border I decided the server I was in was pretty dry, so I hop onto another server I've been using, run for 2 minutes and find what looks like a camp a hacker made. In the camp there was like 20 tents (mostly empty) but one had like 10 M107s in it, and another had 20 Ghilli/Army suits and some other stuff. I took a Army suit, and then swapped it out for a Ghilli, then I started running back the way I came in the other server because I knew this one had a few vehicles in the North-West. Anyway, so now I'm running towards Grozovy Pass and all of the sudden my guy takes out my 1911, I get a big error message, and I hear a Zombie attacking sound. I disconnect thinking there's a glitch or something..., then I reconnect and I find that not only are the other things happening, but I AM THE ZOMBIE!?, I have almost no control, and I'm attacking the ground and moving like a Zombie does. My character also turned into the Zombie Pilot model...I have all my gear though and I'm bleeding... So now I'm in "OH SHIT MODE" and I immediately ALT-F4. Now I'm feeling pretty shitty at this point, I have some pretty good gear, my perfect gun setup, and I've spent all this time running up to the Northern border just to die because some hacker decided to be a dick... (Second time this week -_-) I restart DayZ and join the original server I was in thinking, OK well if I join another server Ill be fine right? Wrong, the same shit is happening even though I hopped into another server... Am I just plain screwed or what? I feel like there is a possibility that this is a glitch, but on the other hand, it seems too ridiculous... I really don't want to restart my character again... it would be the 4th time this week I've found a bunch of cool gear just to die after getting it, and the 2nd time from a hacker... My plan right now is that hopefully one of my friends will find a vehicle in the next day or so, then he can come to where I am and I can drop all my gear in it. Then once I die he can come get me. But to me that's a pretty shit plan... I'm basically in the middle of nowhere and I'm betting on someone else finding an off-road vehicle of some sort...     Load a vehicle found on another server.

    I'm actually okay with tents and vehicles not following you around server to server, just makes them rarer, and makes you find a server to call home.
  5. So this morning I was on US 1325, West of gorka. I opened my map to check where I was, and then i got Battleye script restriction #125 (I think) which booted me off the game. I tried to log back into the server, when I simply got a message saying "You Were Banned." I am not to happy about this, for US 1325 is my "home" server, with all of my vehicles and gear.

    I agree with your second point, after spending 4weeks in the game i have enjoyed it alot. the biggest gripe for me atm is not seeing vehicles not just at spawn points but anywhere, i have not seen a single travelling vehicle once in my alpha play, only a friendly hacker who picked me up and gave me everything(character died) i have all this gear and would like to assault a group who are out and about with a vehicle, maybe i can steal the car? but like i said i haven`t seen one. the chance to get about faster with a car would be fun i guess but sadly hasn`t happened yet. i have looked through the forests up north but it does take a lifetime to get about on foot. the Arma3 map could be exactly what is needed Peace

    Vanishing Vehicle?

    If a hacker spawns something, it is typically deleted after server restarts. We found a few vehicles that disappeared because a hacker spawned them. However, we've also had hackers teleport vehicles off the map. As for the V3S being turned into a bus? Either someone driving a bus found it and took your v3s, a hacker turned it into a bus for giggles, or you had a glitch I'd never heard of or seen before. I think the previous two seem more likely.

    We were firefighting for a while, I could hear you and see you push over foliage...You missed 2 shots at me when you "magically appeared" in front of me. I freaked out and unloaded 1/4 of my clip at you and you finally died. I should have FRAPSed it. When you were by the rocks too I most definately shot you in the back. @Moe how did you know exactly where I was T_T As I was going north I see a random ill-equipped player. How'd you get on the island too there were no vehicles around the island. You swam?... As for the settings, everything was set a normal but post processing was turned off. Updates/Betas are the latest.

    Yeah hoarding is a big problem with vehicles currently. I seen only 3 vehicles and I am playing this game for a few weeks now. I didn't get to drive any yet so... Having vehicles only on 1 server also reduces the amount of server hopping because people tend to stay on servers where they have a vehicles stashed up. So thats a bigger plus, than having your vehicle go with you on any server :)

    the fuck? theyre meant to shoot out engine blocks in vehicles, not to blow apart humans. if people use them against other people fucking deal with it. its not their purpose but their purpose still exists as long as vehicles are in the game.

    Hey guys i am interested in joining.. i have tested out the server to see the ping and i am having a max of around 45 which is alright. Because of that i am more interested because i want a good connection when playing. Im from the UK also (SE) so timezones should be fine. Also have TS3 so i have joined name is - zZ Jack Zz this is the same as my in game name also. I am geared up quite a bit.. Ghillie, GPS, NVG, M4 CCO SD, range finder, and usual kit. I am new to the group play in DayZ but i would like a camp to set up and a couple vehicles aha, i did steal a Ural on another server which explains all the kit i have... it got stolen 2 days later from me as i just couldn't keep it protected on my own aha.     I think that you have made up a quite nice list of points there, and would like to give my input on them. 1. I do agree with you, but the reason why there is som much high end gear, is because tents and vehicles can be used to dupe items. This is likely to be fixed before the game is released, but i also think that it should be much harder to raid the high end gear places. NWAF is pretty ok, considering that you almost always bumps into another survivor while beeing there, but crashed helis are for most of the time in totally remote places, and it's pretty easy to raid them. 2. Chernarus is a big map, but i have heard that Arma 3:s map is even bigger, and is an island. I have heard rumors of a standalone DayZ, but if it's not, your whish will be fullfilled. I would personally see a really big city on the map. Having a really big city with maybe a military facility(government building) deep within the city with unique high quality gear, would provoke survivors to raid the city. 3. Partly see 2. about the city, if the endgame gear is in a crowded place, you will get endgame action. Removing the survival gear as the knife and water bottles is just weird in a survival game. I do have another proposal for more action, and that is a horde of infected that is wandering around the map (inspired from the Walking Dead). Maybe two or three of this horde with around 50 infecteds that wander the map straight through cities and woods.

    Spawn times

    Sounds like it's something the DayZ dev team do, I assume there's a waiting list of white listed servers they work through? From Multiplay's website: Please be aware of the following when ordering a DayZ server: The DayZ instance ID is provided by Multiplay. Certain entities (including but not limited to vehicles) are controlled by the DayZ development team. There is no guarantee that these will regularly spawn on your service. The server must remain public at all times. Passworded servers are not permitted. Your service must comply with DayZ naming conventions set by the development team. The DayZ server code is in the alpha stage. As such features may be missing or unstable from time to time. This includes but is not limited to memory leaks, server crashes and high CPU. We will pass any information of this nature to the DayZ development team for review.
  16. Hey guys. So I've been reading this forums since I started playing, but I never really took the time to register. I just wanted to share my thoughts regarding some aspects of the game that I've formed an opinion on. I want to state ahead of this, that I've read the threads on why Arma2 is the way it is regarding hackers and whatnot, and why a lot of things just can't be changed by Rocket. I accept that, and I know that some of the things I'll say can't possibly be fixed until the game goes standalone. I love DayZ, and this isn't one of those "omg im quitting game sucks" threads. I work on a development team for a relatively successful game modification (not Arma2 based) myself, so I know how mods run into these kinds of limitations. So this is really just a gathering of my thoughts. After playing for this last 2 months, I've played in a variety of ways. Most of it has been aimed at banditry, but the style of play has varied. I've trekked around the map on foot, avoiding players, surviving off what I can find. I moved on to living outside of towns and avoiding them, using helicopter crash sites and deer stands to sustain my weaponry needs, even though I barely used them. I later ended up with more players involved, and we formed camps, did battle with what was possibly a cheating clan, lost vehicles, regained vehicles, etc. But I haven't encountered any real hacking so I haven't felt that frustration personally. 1) Kit Inflation is really hurting the game. I saw a thread about this a few days ago and I don't think the majority of people agreed with it, but I thoroughly agree with the poster. End-game kit is way too common these days, and this isn't due to the amount of spawns. The natural cycle of kit being lost and found is completely out of whack due to the amount of duplication and script-spawning of weaponry. Back when I started, I must have been one of the first people to find an L85 AWS. It wasn't on the wiki, only a couple of threads mentioned it and virtually everyone thought it was hacked. Now, I find that nearly 50% of the people I kill have one. This is just a single example (I would argue that thermal probably shouldn't be in the game at all), but it goes for most top-end weapons. End-game kit is too easy to come across. You don't loot towns, or the airfield, or even players if you want to avoid the risk. Anyone spending 30-60 minutes to avoid doing that, but the problem is, why would anyone disadvantage themselves against all the other players who do this? Until a time in which duplication is no longer possible, I honestly wouldn't mind if there was a total reset every 4-6 weeks, to keep the vehicles and weaponry levels cycling properly. 2) Chernarus has too much wasted space. This leads from my last point. The 2km boundary around the map where people form bases is really bad for the game in general. It keeps players out of the main gameplay area and just stagnates things so much. It's just an area for high-level kit storage and vehicle hoarding. It's not really what DayZ is about. But the fact is, you can't blame people for it, the option is there, and you can't expect anyone to put themselves at a disadvantage. I know the map won't be changed because it's an Arma2 map, but if in the standalone game things can be changed, I would like to see an island map, or at least the wasted space made use of, with the map boundary being up close to points of interest, so that people can't hide there. 3) This is arguably my most controversial point, and one I feel people will disagree with the most. This might not be as much as a problem as I believe it to be, as it could very well be point #2 causing this, but I feel that the ability to hunt animals and fill up bottles from lakes doesn't really enhance the game, and the game could be improved with this removed. People should be encouraged to enter towns, to take the risk, to encounter players more, not to hide in the forest avoiding all human contact. You can argue that this is a survival simulator, but it is a game. With any game, if you give people a less-fun, but more "sensible" option, they'll take it. But if people had to go into towns, I feel like the game would flow a lot better. I had a character live for 6 weeks by avoiding this kind of thing. But did I have fun? Not really. I've had more fun cycling through my last 5 characters in a much shorter timeframe. ---------- EDIT: In later posts in this thread, I've tried to clarify that I've really put my point across poorly with regard to hunting. As stated in my later posts, there are ways around the problem, it's just that they aren't really possible with the current Arma 2 version of DayZ. Ideas such as your hatchet blunting over time so it has to be replaced, it taking 2-3 minutes to cook meat (added risk of being seen), requiring water purification tablets to drink pond/lake water, having limited matches or lighter fuel. The problem is that people can avoid entering towns entirely and sustain yourself, rather than a problem with the ability to hunt. If people had to visit towns for survival supplies every now and then, then the problem wouldn't be there. Apologies for putting it across poorly in my initial post.     hunting knife and water bottles

    I think that the guys that accually is satisfied with water bottle, knife, hatchet and matches are pretty few. This is not an endgame setup, and although they can survive in the wilderness forever, they will still raid cities and military bases for weapons and vehicles. I have got bitten twice and had to go to Chernogorsk to raid hospitals for antibiotics, so there is still reason for high geared survivors to raid the big cities. Removing the said items would make the game setup weird... survival game without a knife.

  20. "Hackerbros" are posting server maps with players tents and vehicles on the /vg/ thread on 4chan. Just a heads up, your tents are compromised. Hackers are ruining this mod.

    check on the ground where you were flying when the server restarted. the vehicle is usually saved to it's last known location automatically when server resetarts - at least for all the ground vehicles.

  23. Does this server allow vehicles to be parked off map or do they reset during the server reset if parked off map. I have searched and searched about every inch of the map for Helicopters and found nothing along with the ural.

    DayZ is not a zombie-survival simulator. It has the window dressing of zombie-survival as a hook. Zombie-survival is the window dressing to draw players in. But the gameplay focus of the mod is: sorta-persistent-world deathmatch on an enormous map. The zombie-survival aspect rapidly becomes a hoop to jump through so you can pvp over l33t weapon spawns and vehicles. The pvp itself is fun. But that's just the base ArmA pvp at work.
  25. All the idiots that said that making zombies more difficult would make people play coop failed and we all knew it would. Now we have zombie line backers running through walls doing 1 hit KO to worry about on top of every other player that shows up and sniper fire from the hills. How much harder does it need to get for the honest players? It really isnt worth game testing this alpha anymore. I rather let everyone else go through hell and back while I wait till the game comes out. The game is an FFA death match where zombies annoy the hell out of everything and you have to get through them to get to a weapon to defend yourself. Most of the bandit/ clan fags are already setup with tents and vehicles while the rest of us are starting to quit. The community has turned murderous. They shoot you even though you declare yourself a friendly unarmed player. Artifacts started appearing commonly near military loot (Only military loot buildings), coincidance maybe but annoying as hell. The matter of fact is that I am done until the game comes out. It's taking forever and the gameplay for this mod, which is the only incentive there is to test the game, has become disgusting and almost unplayable.
