The tents issue is now sorted on this server, we are now just trying to see about vehicles! -
It appears vehicles randomly disappear and re-appear on server restarts, even after saving them. We have tested this out, with no real logic conclusion. This does seem to be a hive issue though. I can't confirm that cars are currently in, since i had a bus at some point but it keeps disappearing from the spot that i saved it in. A few days later its back in the same spot, now its gone again lol. BTW, No server has settings that can affect the vehicle spawn rate/amount or anything vehicle-related for that matter. If you found one vehicle, then there are more. The map is big after all. I'm sure there are some hidden camps... The server isn't that young, hence why there are a few groups who have created bases. EDIT: So i was talking to other server hosters on the IRC. It appears other servers are experiencing the same issues with vehicles not updating properly from the dayz hive... It's random though. Let's hope it gets fixed soon anyways.

Hehe, yeah stealing vehicles from a clan is a blast. I found a group's Ural full of gear the other night and the last two nights they have been circling the map in their chopper looking for it lol.

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
random51 replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ethanol, methanol, and bio-diesel. You can use "reality" to explain an end to gasoline, you can't use it to explain an end to fuel for internal combustion engines. You'd have vehicles running on vegetable fuels, you'd also see the return of wood/coal-fired steam power. On top of that it won't matter how much gasoline is left because modern gasoline doesn't store very long. You'd be able to find gasoline for years to come, most of it would be useless, though. Lastly, any argument based upon realism is doomed to failure. Realism isn't the main course, it is a spice, and like any spice how much is needed is entirely subjective. :) Oh, and one other thing. I'd be perfectly happy if the vehicle spawns worked similarly to the downed helicopters. Lots of random spawn points all over the map that could spawn any vehicle, while still keeping the total vehicle count relatively low. Any gameplay that can't be subverted with 10 minutes of research on a wiki is a good idea. -

And I agree. Vehicles are first come, first serve; and that's the way it should be. However, there are way too many people that take advantage of the fact that all the vehicles in Chernarus have fixed spawn points. They exploit this by stockpiling them to keep players from finding them in the world, forcing them to resort to running along the very edges of the map to find a vehicle. The idea I mentioned in the OP about having vehicles have a greatly increased number of spawn points encourages exploration and prevents stockpiling for a longer period of time, allowing vehicles to be spread more evenly throughout the community of that server.
-
I get your point, but that is already happening. So the process would be the same as now: Player is unable to get access to passworded server because it is being "exploited" by the admin/owner/clan. Player comes to the DayZ forums and informs the DayZ Team. DayZ Team blacklists the server due to admin abuse. Problem solved. Same goes for the hording scenario Player joins server to find it has been picked clean and the admin/owner/clan is stocking all the gear/vehicles. Player comes to the DayZ forums and informs DayZ Team. DayZ Team blacklists the server due to admin abuse. Problem solved. So while I understand your point, again its not as big of a problem as your making it out to be and certainly isn't going to be anymore of a problem than it is now.

I guess vehicles with thermal imaging would be a natural predator for soldiers using thermal imaging for their night vision devices. Edit: I.. I think don't want to fight people with thermal imaging scopes on their rifles where ever I go. I surmise that the importance of thermal imaging on the battlefield is one of those paradigms that currently is thought to resolve combat in an area. I guess in the end, such a paradigm will have to be viewed with regard to its context, where the scale of conflict or range of weaponry is factored in.

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
random51 replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First, stop pulling numbers from your ass. Second, if you know the vehicles are on the side/top of the map then what is stopping you from going and getting one? The only problem I see is that people want a vehicle to always be waiting for them where a map they downloaded outside of the game says one will be. They're too lazy to actually do the work necessary to find one. Cry me a river. EDIT: If this post irritates you, perhaps you should stop and be honest with yourself about why it irritates you. You might learn something. What you're calling the "Vehicle Problem" is actually a feature. Vehicles are rare, persistent, and first come, first serve: working as intended. There is nothing inherently wrong with that feature, nothing inherently wrong with that design. You're just upset that other players aren't playing the way you want them to. -
A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
Erik (DayZ) replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I personaly never use any vehicles besidse bicycles simply because they're pure evil. Don't trust these monsters! -
It's posts like these that irritate me. Not once in my first post did I ever say I had trouble finding vehicles. I know where they all are. I'm talking about a widespread problem that, in my mind, needs to be fixed. I'm talking about something the devs of the game probably want to see changed. This is exactly why people like you shouldn't be able to speak out. Instead of focusing on a problem and coming up with a real solution, you just accept it for what it is and say the game couldn't be any better.

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
motocross replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Butt hurt cuz you can't find one? :'( poor guy. Found a bus and 2 offroads, repaired them (Taking 3 hours in total) And are now used as inner walls of our base, with wire on the outside, stopping you from getting in. They are also storage, rescue and raiding vehicles. -
when you save a tent it stays on the server. You have to go to the same server to see it again. Same goes for all vehicles

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
Aitloian replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If all those vehicles are up north why don't you just go find them and take them? It really is that easy. Anyone who complains about vehicle hoarding doesn't know how to play simple as that. I'm sorry if my group sees another vehicle were going to take it wouldn't you? -

We make it a point to use vehicles to hunt for vehicles, and then destroy them, drive them into towns or give them away. -

Taking out vehicles with the as50 is the best. -
I think lootable vehicles should be added in general.

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?

Then explain to me why half the servers have 10 vehicles camped on the side/top of the map, doing nothing but collect dust? OP is 100% correct. -
If there are to be skills in dayz Stats for skills should only be improved when practice in groups. i.e. 2 or more people need to be practicing these skills in the vicinity of each other for them to improve. Certain 'techs' or 'abilities/knowledge' can only be learnt from one player to another in a journeyman and apprentice relationship. This will lead to groups keeping their skill sets to themselves to maintain advantage etc. Players with gifts in certain disciplines will need to find others to help them develop those skills further (maybe its a speed thing, learning from someone else is x1000 faster than developing on yourself) High proficiency in certain skills and abilities, should be made to be very rare, the lose of that player should be costly not just to the clan/group but maybe even to a whole populations of players, think of say a surgeon who is able to perform life saving operations and able to train medics very efficiently, if he dies it will be a long time before the dayz community comes across another character like that. These skill advantages should be a strategic element to the game, do clans keep these players to themselves, do they seek to profit from it, etc. - Does a bandit (of course these guys need to be highly skilled in wilderness survival) clan really want to mess with the clan with the only surgeon... does the clan with the helicopter skills want to have a monopoly on ariel transport - think about that, how many survivors would be able to fly a helicopter? Engineers needed to fix machinery such as vehicles, electricians needed to maintain radios, bushman for forest skills, etc etc. The skill mechanics thats working in the background ought to be very indepth but very intuitive, seemingly simply to the player. ie to the player, he has some skills, he can improved them slowly (almost impossible to detect) on his own, but really he needs the right training from other skilled players. But becoming extremely highly skilled should be a mystery to the players (the algorithm not being obvious). Skills under no circumstances should be based on a basic repetition system as been seen before.

A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
Tek (DayZ) replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a vehicle problem because people are "hoarding" vehicles? I had a tractor, that I used for storage and ran around in when I needed to to save buddies, or for whatever. Right now I have a bicycle and a pickup truck. Am I a hoarder because I have them and use them for storage and driving around in? Get real. I found them, I can do with them as I please. This goes for anyone who got a vehicle. It is not a problem because you're incapable of finding a vehicle. They are not hard to find if you use your brain to think things through. I'm not trying to be harsh, but it's a simple fact. Vehicles can be found if one wants to find them. Stop trying to change the way the game is supposed to be played because some people have a problem playing a game that makes you use your head. -
We've all had our fair share of problems with vehicles, and this is by no means a comprehensive list of all the fixes required. This is simply a possible solution to the hoarding problem everybody hates so much. In my mind, this could definitely be implemented in the standalone and would be very beneficial to everybody overall. My idea is to have not necessarily more vehicles, but to have more vehicle spawn locations. In fact, I'm thinking of maybe 5x the number of spawn locations as in the current version of DayZ. However, with these locations comes another factor. Either each location could have a 1/5 chance to spawn a vehicle, resulting in some variety across servers; or the server, when being created, could randomly select 1/5 of those locations to spawn vehicles. This would make hoarders explore the map more rather than just heading for all the known vehicle spawn locations to stockpile them and hide them like buried treasure. All other factors aside just to keep this as a simple idea, I would also like to mention other ideas come up by many people across the forums. 1. Make fuel and jerry cans rare. The fight over vehicles is boring and monotonous. While some people find joy in finding one of the many camps on the north and west sides of the map, I find myself wanting to just go back to Cherno and find somebody with an AS50 I can steal. This problem can be solved by making literally every single gas station a war zone. Mind you, there will be vehicles at the edge of the map for people who like that kind of thing (just not huge stockpiles), but for people who actually like to find and use their vehicles, every time they want to fuel up they may be taking a huge risk. Basically just resulting in more excitement all around. 2. Make vehicles parts rare. Currently finding vehicles parts can be done very easily by simply entering an industrial location. I would like to see vehicle parts become much less common in industrial areas, but I would also like to see scavenging parts from the wreckage of other vehicles. You know, like the 95% of all the cars you see on the road. The success rate of this would be low. However, sometimes after inspecting a destroyed car maybe one could come up with a spare tire. 3. Make vehicles have less storage. While this conflicts with my earlier idea about vehicles still being on the edge of the map, the concept is simple. HIDE tents, USE vehicles. Currently vehicles are just mobile storage. I would like to see that similarity between the tent and the vehicle smashed to bits. It's the cause of many problems. 4. This is an idea of my own, and I'd like to see your thoughts on it. Make military vehicles more durable but require more fuel to use. This would be a feature that would revolutionize the game in my opinion. Having this be implemented would result in certain players having a more military oriented game, in which they are heavily armored but have to consume a TON of resources to stay that way. Other players might choose the other route, in which they pick a civilian vehicle and survive using as few resources as possible. Let me know what you guys think, and I may add your suggestions. Heck, maybe if this gets popular enough I'll put it in the suggestions category. ;)

The Problem With Saving Location
thecoolsideofthepillow posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The saving of your location and gear upon leaving/entering any server running the mod is nice, but at the same time it is one of the many things exploitable to gain an advantage over other players. Think about it. Let's say you're on a server with a bunch of people. A group of guys has a base set up with some vehicles, a stockpile of goods and a couple of goons guarding everything. Walking up to them in the open or trying to sneak around would be suicide with how good their security is. But you can log out, find an empty server, get into the area where this team's base it set up at, log out, re-join the server where the people are, and kill them all from behind. You can also gear up by doing much the same thing. Simply go into an empty server and start grabbing everything you can. I am just glad that vehicles do not save in this fashion, or it would go from being a zombie survival game to just a massive helicopter dogfight. -
Couple or hours ago I was rolling in a nice convoy of a Ural and a motorbike with some friends. We were just about to meet up with our scout who spotted a pickup and repair it. As we got close, everyone on the TS reported broken bones...there was the quiet couple of seconds before everyone realised it...HACKERS! Some of us go out in time, the others that tried to exit and save the vehicles...they didn't make it.... So yes, the hacks/scripts are still around...but battle eye is starting to come back, I reckon we'll see a decrease within the next month or so
-
Uh did you miss all the military installations....ya it makes sense for the military cars to be rare but the civilian cars should be just fine. Not burnt out and destroyed...there should be more of them. The fact of the matter is one or two groups could have all the cars on the server since there are only maybe 5-8 per server (especially now, since the servers and the whole spawning and saving of tents/vehicles is broken)

1. Check your logs, we have been playing on your server for over 3 weeks. All of those vehicles (1 ATV, 1 UAZ, 1 V3S, 2 Motorcycles) were legit. Hence why they would stay after restarts. We worked our ass off for them just for you to roll up with an god mode hack and destroy all of it. 2. The SINGLE AS50 TWS, that was in that tent, was the one I took off your dead body as I mentioned. Note how it was IN A TENT AND NOT IN USE, because I kept it hoping it could somehow be traced back to you. 3. Those tents we had, we actually SAVED after we took items out so they wouldnt dupe. We have been playing this game legit since day one. Period. We stuck it out on the server to get proof of your lies. THIS is why we have been posting on Server Reporting and in Cheating Report Forum about this. We report hacking to the Admins of the server. It is going to fall on deaf ears, because take a guess who runs the server.... Bingo.
