Alt+F4-ing? Hoarding is the behaviour spoiling this experience. (suggestion)
DoctorWrongpipes posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So sick of running around with new players I've introduced to the mod, and trying to find vehicles. I know it's highly unlikely that they'll be in their expected spawn location, maybe one or two will parked by unwitting players, poorly obscured by a tree near a town. Most (as you know) are parked in a fucking row, surrounded by suspicious amounts of tents at the map edge, and collected (SEE: stolen after others repair) by two or three douchebags. Yada yada it's part of the game, but with the reintroduction of the chopper to the map, hoarders now have eyes on every vehicle, wherever it may be hidden and regardless of cover. I've flown the chopper (taken from a hoarder camp) and the view into treelines is ludicrous. Every tent, even bicycles can be spotted from hundreds of metres away. This essentially means, whoever has the chopper, has all of the vehicles. Four, maybe five guys needlessly controlling all of the vehicles for fifty players. Add to this that someone will likely find this pointless showroom and then blow it up, thus endlessly repeating the cycle on every server restart. My suggestion is this: If more than two player-saved vehicles are parked within proximity of say 200/300m of each other, they instantly spawn thirty zombies. You want a car showroom that basically forces players into playing and enjoying the experience in only one way (or endlessly running in featureless hell trying to find your nest of douchebaggery)? You best be prepared to fight for it and be prepared to defend spread-out clusters of your stolen vehicles and duped tents. There is no need for a group of four people to have nine or more vehicles. Part rant, part suggestion, I know. But I hope some of you are as bored of this behaviour as I am... -
this would be true if the last patch didnt break vehicles so bad that they respawn where they were destroyed on every restart

Hey I was wondering if anyone had any extra vehicles I could trade for or borrow to transport my friends (who are new to the game) to a safer place. lmk, thanks!

As the topic says, Im curious as to when Vehicles reset, If its when a server restarts or if its just when a server actually goes down and stays down for sometime, Or if its at a different time all together. Cheers, Wayne

Server restarts = losing everything.
oppa (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
that problem is known and will be fixed in the next good patch - as far as i know - on our server we also cant save vehicles or tents -

Vehicles and Tents lead to nothing but resentment and anger, stop using them entirely. There's no way to guarantee items will save inside of them. -

For some reason whenever I restart my server, everything in my vehicles (gear/backpacks/weapons) gets reset and disappears. Does anyone know of a surefire way to make sure the gear in vehicles get's saved? -
Your body should disappear after death
Fiskbatch replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would probably stopped playing if I was to be unable to use tents/vehicles/bodies. Your idea is bad and you should feel bad. -
Found A Helicopter, But I Can't Save It?
Tfortacos (DayZ) replied to Hobs (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I heard they made new spawn points. Also hacked in vehicles aren't able to save if it is still there by server restart it's legit. -
No vehicles spawning on new server.
[email protected] replied to DarkEnergy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I think it's a shame for the devs, because you are not allowed to do anything with your server, except of paying and even then you don't even get vehicles. It's really annoying and the answer the vehicles would spawn in 7 days is a bad joke, when I see how long some people wait now. -
STOP The Škorpion (Sa61_EP1) is already in A2:CO, and if you haven't used it in vanilla gameplay, you're sorely mistaken if you think it's a lousy sidearm. Secondly. Stock P-90 doesn't have any magnification OR scope - it's just got a miniature red dot sight built into the receiver group. Effective range would definitely not be augmented by this. And thirdly. Chernarussia's military uses Warsaw-Pact weaponry. It's bad enough that there are HEAPS of western weapons in the game. There's very little reason for there to be another Belgian weapon in there, too. If anything, Warsaw-Pact weaponry, vehicles and helicopters should be prolific, with Western and European weaponry rare or unique-spawn.

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate
The Sad Panda replied to The Sad Panda's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@ BazBake Unless I've horribly misunderstood someone's post in this thread, I don't think anyone is asking for skills that enhance or modify your performance in a firefight, it's things like the application of medicine, preparing of food, construction of shelters, upkeep of vehicles, etc. A system that gives an edge during an actual firefight would be fundamentally un-DayZ. I don't think anyone is actually asking for + gun damage or + damage resistance skills, Now I do realize in the OP I stated that "Skills could even go so far as affecting combat, and could serve to negate stockpiled weapons in a way, but more on that in the next section. Anyway, with a skill system in mind, take a moment to reflect on what it would add to the depth of the game. Post your ideas, criticize it, tell me I’m crazy – post your thoughts and add to the discussion" and after re-reading it, with your previous post in mind, I realize that I worded that passage very poorly. What I was alluding to was that guns could degrade over time, and require that their owner perform maintenance on them. Never in a million years did I mean to imply that someone would be able to get something like a +10 aim stat that would make their bullets go straighter.or some nonsense like that. The skills that I suggest are purely to add depth to already existing survival mechanics, not to make player X better than player Y in a firefight, because player X has 300 confirmed kills, whereas player Y just spawned on the beach. Will be editing that passage to reflect that -
Strange Behaviour with Vehicles/De-spawn 1.7.2.5 95913
WavezZ replied to dstuti7's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We have like problems with vehicles too. They are not saving. So when you saved it on the server before it came to 1.7.2.5. Now every restart reset it location to last saved in 1.7.2.4. So it's like vehicle saving is not working anymore. Also some kind of cars are changing. We had a bicycle at the store. After restart it was replaced with motorcycle (da faq ?). Also today, we were driving Skoda, after restart it came up to replace it with fully working (other car gear) Off-road pickup. I don't get it. That update it's the biggest fail. Should I mention, that I get Artifacts ? (Before this patch I even didn't get 1 f.cking artifact) -.- FAIL UPDATE ;s -

Strange Behaviour with Vehicles/De-spawn 1.7.2.5 95913
dstuti7 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi there, I know this has been raised in other posts, but so far I cannot see any recognition there is an issue, or a resolution (of course the Devs are busy, but so are server admins at present!) Running on with the following build 1.7.2.5 95913, little background to the situation: - Helicopter found, repaired and flown back to base while on previous Day Z release - Battle Eye Script restriction kicks pilot out of chopper, him and other occupants die a horrible death - Chopper not seen since, server running for around 11 days since 'the accident' I've read conflicting information on the forums, and other suggestions that we're not supposed to know the dynamics of the loot cycle etc; but the issue is I have a user base that are asking questions around where the helicopter they worked on went to, and I don't have any answers. Is it 7 days? Does the script restriction issue have any bearing on the respawn? The server has of course being restarted a couple of times, does this restart the loot cycle? The second issue since updating that has been reported is that vehicles are randomly being turned into cycles on a server restart, with the original vehicle back at I can only presume the location it was left before the update, since then people have had long trips back up north to find the vehicle where they started out. An example of this - - Riding a motorcycle, crashed into a lake (lol) bike eventually blows up and disappears, this was on previous day z release - Motorcycle not in original spawn location, nor sited anywhere else on the map, wind forward a week - Update carried out to 1.7.2.5. Userbase find a Civilian Carrier at the quarry, fix up and take back to Story - Server restarted this evening with new battle eye scripts.txt, motorbike appears in story next to an Ural that has actually stayed around for a while! - Civilian carrier reported missing, found later at quarry - Server restarted on schedule, Ural used to go check for civilian carrier has turned into a cycle bike, and still no helicopter I can really appreciate that it is all go for the Dev's at the moment, but as mentioned it is for us and I don't know where to turn to. Posts on this forum are clouded with so many different reports that it must be impossible to correlate events I know - but there never seems to be any recognition of an issue from any type of authority. To date, I have spent more time actually parsing logs, checking for hackers, banning hackers, restarting the server, dealing with questions from my user base that I cannot answer, mitigating skiddie udp floods after a ban, than I have actually playing the game! I know the mod is in alpha, and server admins appreciate this by dedicating resource & money to provide the data and bug reports needed, but at present there is no information coming back to assist us in trying to get a smooth user experience. I've known of 3 people personally that have stopped playing until the game plays like it did 2 or 3 weeks ago; and these are people that contribute towards the cost of running a server. Without a smooth user experience people will be just reluctant to contribute in a positive manner to the development of the game. Please can we just have some clarification around what, if anything, we need to do to resolve this? -
A large amount of hacked gear on guys from US1664 with video
arma2eraseditself replied to YeeDeed's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is how hacking works in Day Z now. 10 guys get together and pitch 2$ a piece or 5 guys pay 5$ etc. Then 1 guy installs the game and uses the hacks spawning in as many weapons and vehicles as they want and the rest simply pick it up and use it because that isn't a banable offense. IE hacking has no consequences because of the corporate interests (BIS) that employ the anti cheat engine. They would rather sell another copy of the game here n there then hardware ban ppl (block the computers hardware configuration from playing again) -
DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate
insitv replied to The Sad Panda's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
BazBake you get my beans for that post but social stratification is already plagueing the game. People with vehicles getting all the crash sites after server restarts, people with high end gear able to defend important loot locations better than less equipped groups and the list goes on. Skill progression like i suggested earlier in this thread would help newcomers to close this gap. Of course it could divide the different "social classes" in this game even more but to prevent that you set a maximum level of mastery if you will call it that. With time you catch up. It's the same with items, with time you get more loot and catch up to the already geared up people. You just have to be careful. -
Lol thats pretty funny. Like previously said, atleast you had something. I've had so many vehicles disappear along with the gear inside them.

Skorpion's clearly a better choice, but I'd never use it. Too much Klobb stigma. And take a breath, Freezy. Here are my main reasons for not liking the P90 for DayZ: From a technical standpoint, it's not in Arma 2 or Operation Arrowhead, so it'd have to be shoehorned in like the crowbar was. In terms of gameplay, it would require a totally new and proprietary magazine and cartridge, since nothing else uses the 5.7mm round except the Five-Seven. That means it would be in the same category as the FAL and Bizon and SVD. Unlike the FAL and SVD, though, the rinky-dink P90 would be a weak weapon with low range that wouldn't be recommended for anything except collecting, and would add virtually nothing to PvZ or PvP. Aesthetically, the P90 is a very modern, very fancy gun. We don't really have a precedent for that sort of thing in DayZ. Of the guns we have, I think only the Mk. 48 Mod 0 was developed more recently than the P90 (correct me if I'm wrong), and its design is similar to the M249 of 1974, making it look less like a ray gun than the P90 would in this context. I like fighting zombies with Cold War-era armament, it feels good to me. If you're putting the P90 in, why not add in all the G36 and Mk16 variants, too? XM8s are good, as is the M110. And don't get me started on vehicles. Additional content, added solely for the sake of diversity and vanity items that do not contribute meaningfully to the gameplay can bog down the mod. I like it leaner.

Just happened again at 11:09 GMT. Also happened several times through the day, and also everyone on the server was made to dance for a while, before they were all killed. Happened so many times on this server now, we'd abandon it if we didn't have vehicles, tents etc. there, which keep resetting back to their state from a few days ago - its like bloody groundhog day :( Not sure if this is a bug or admin restoring from backup because of the hacking or something, but it's making it very difficult to play - persistent MMO without the persistence.

I'd like to see tents/vehicles moved from the HIVE to the server hosters. It's an overall crap implementation of it right now. That's what I'd like to see in a magical world where things are not in the Alpha stage anyways...
-
As nobody besides the Devs knows how tent data data is saved, nobody really knows what's going on. I think it's connected to problems with the HIVE (no leaderboards, people spawning at the beach because the HIVE forgot their location, vehicles not saving). I would think that they are working on the HIVE and how things are saved/stored in their database. Personally i would like to see tents/vehicles disabled for the time being. Of course right now one can only speculate and hope it's getting fixed soon.

If inventory and backpack saving are working correctly, why isn't tent and vehicle saving functional? Doesn't make sense to me. Hackers I can avoid, passing out for five minutes occasionally upon login I can bare, zombies instantly breaking my legs I can avoid or cope with, but my items simply not being saved is taking away the game. Looting and surviving are the two halves of this mod. When your inventory is stocked with high end gear and vehicles and tents can't save loot properly, that removes 1/2 of the game alone, there's no more looting to be done since none of it saves. All that's left is surviving, which consists of eating, drinking, and using Heat packs; there's no substance at that point. Really, I'm not ranting, I just can't fathom why something so critical isn't fixed after all of these patches. It's not as if storing gear is a new feature, been around forever and still they don't work properly. Sharing my thoughts and looking for opinions, really. Is there any reason for this not to be fixed? Do you all think this is critical? Should fixing these problems come before login optimization and graphical glitch fixing?

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate
Shag replied to The Sad Panda's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dont like skills. its flawed. what is a snipers special skill? can they magically shoot guns better than mechanics? nah I do agree with storage being an issue but necessary for deeper gameplay. I think that storage is already limited by item type, reduce the weapon item type for weapons to 1 or 2. Stop storage in vehicles, or drastically reduce it. Have items saved by a player disappear immediately upon death. Stop duping somehow in new engine. Profit....
