Saving vehicles and tents.
cortez (DayZ) replied to Targeter_NL's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, our server is doing this. You can pitch a tent and place items into it. after you save that tent it will save the items BUT you can only get those items from that tent now and it won't save anything else. As for vehicles they won't save at all and the helicopter will reset its locations every server restart. -
We have vehicles randomly saving on 2.5. A bike and a bicycle we stashed at camp ,and only saved once we got to our camp, appear after a server restart ...sometimes. We have three tents and only 1 of them saved its items inside after the initial first save. The tents all duped an empty tent which is annoying as we know have six tents but only one that worked :) Bring on the patch !
-
Sort the damn tents and vehicle saving out, in a game without any true objectives these are core elements that you've managed to break in the last patch. The alpha test is going to be burnt to a cinder unless these items are fixed pronto. You should also put some damn quality control into your patches, stop releasing small (buggy) fixes which somehow manage to break massive chunks of the game which keep people addicted. I stopped playing about a week ago, because without tents and vehicles the game is rubbish. I've been watching the Dayzmod homepage every few days and see the players last active within 24 hours dropping by tens of thousands each time I check back. At this pace there will be no players left in a month! Forget all the momentum building up to the standalone when you've pissed off most players and server admins like this!

I am beginning to recruit survivalists for a new separate militia on Lingor Island. We have recently lost are main vehicle but we still are well equipped. There are many vehicle spawns I know of and I have 3 vehicles that are in need of repair in a hidden location. The 3 vehicles are a Lingor Island military Ural, an old hatchback and a sadan. They all need repairs. If you are willing to join the group just message me and I will be able to answer any questions you have.

CA 20 & CA 24 | Zombie Infection Server Discussion & Suggestions
nohrt replied to nohrt's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
So ive noticed Arma2 server engine responds better to frequency (ghz) than it does cores. So ive upgraded the server to an AMD FX 8150 with 8 cores and overclocked it to 5.1Ghz. It should have less issues now with interactions with vehicles and what not. If this upgrade proves to be more stable ill update the player slots =) Also have a image of the new box. -
No, you load it with stuff then you save it. Otherwise it'll save an empty tent, and upon restart it will be empty. 2.4 saves vehicles fine. State of tents unknown in 2.4 (to me anyways).
-
Ok so I can only save it once? and then load it with stuff and it will save it? what if I save a second time after i take something out? and does that work for 1.7.2.5? or only 2.4? what about saving vehicles in 2,4? cos I saved the bus every time i got out of it today, should I not do that? I'm a little confused since this is the first time i've tried making a camp.

go to 1.7.2.4 or vehicles/tents will keep "wild" about saving -
loollol sorry I somehow decided that it was about body armor  I was talking about motorcycle jackets like this: http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00VMramBwzkdcP/Motorcycle-Racing-Jacket.jpg About the vehicles armor, its a good idea I remember the huge zombie-proof truck they had in some movie (28 days later or something if i am right) and that could be interesting if we could build one in game. we will be able to create mobile "base" using Ural or V3S. this can be easily done in Arma, there is attachTo command, you can even attach plane to truck with it (lol I think i'll try this in the Editor )

editing gear? private server for youtube vids
jjake121 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
hey, I've just started up my own server that's private with a password on it. I want to use this server to make youtube videos so its not a proper server. But I cant be bothered to spend a whole night stockpiling all the weapons for use in the videos. I don't want to hack the items in but I swear there is a way I can put the server to spawn 100% vehicles that are fully repaired and edit my gear to for some reason the post screwed up goto http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/84131-private-server-for-youtube-vids-help/ this link is the proper post -
Suggestions for the "World" in future updates
unconsciousobjector posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Many if not most of the suggestions I've read are directly related to the player. What about the "world" or sandbox" we play in? I'd love to see suggestions that aren't about weapons, bases, inventory and the like. Examples: Tornadoes and/or other violent weather. Infected dogs/animals. Fishing. Large sailing vessels. Seasons. Evolved infected. Radio signals that lead to "special" events/places. Helicopters/airplanes randomly falling out of the sky. ALL vehicles lootable for parts, eventually allowing you to create or repair a vehicle. Wandering herds of infected. These are just a few. I'd love to see more that deal directly with the world and NOT the player. I firmly believe that DayZ is about the "world" and not the PvP or player gear, which seems to be the direction most suggestions are trying to steer it. If it goes that direction (PvP/player driven) it will quickly become another COD/Battlefield wanna-be. -
Server admin GB #500 Stuarts Server - hope you see this
blogg10 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Okay, I've been playing DayZ for about a month now and I'd like to think I've completed most of the in-game 'achievements', as it were. I've found every utility item, picked up every weapon except a thermal rifle, worn every clothing, and I've fixed multiple vehicles. Yesterday I and a friend found a helicopter on this server, on the island spawn. Naturally, minds were blown, and I cycled the length and breadth of Chernarus TWICE to find a bloody rotor assembly. We flew the helicopter around having a right old time, gat-gatting at zombies with the crappy machine guns and then logged off to sleep after spending 5 hours on your server finding, fixing, and playing with a helicopter. Now I can't risk logging on to fly the helicopter around. Why? BECAUSE YOU KICK ME EVERY TIME I LOG ON! Some background: I have never hacked, scripted, used any exploits beyond logging off when I'm trapped in a dead-end building with dozens of zombies and low ammo ( I freely admit to that one). So the only reason you can be kicking me is because you want to play alone/with your friends. This happened when I had a car on your server too, and I had to keep logging on in short bursts just so I could move the car deep into the woods to hide it, with you taking the time to kick me every time. Obviously not reading the rules: there are no such things as private servers on DayZ. If you want to play legit DayZ without doing whatever needs to be done to mess it up into a private Hive, it has to be free and open to everyone - not just your friends. I have no idea how to contact you because you post no contact information on your server - I've Googled it and can't find an email address for you. This, along with the name of your server, leads me to believe that you bought it in the misguided sense of making it your private DayZ playground. I don't want to have your server taken down or whatever because there's no exploiting going on or anything like that - just a misapprehension. But please, I hope to god you go on the DayZ forums, and that you read this. Because I really, really want to fly around your server terrorising the population in the UH-1H Huey whose machinery is coated with my sweat and blood. The helicopter I had to make an emergency landing in the middle of Solnichniy with because I didn't yet know that you need to repair the windscreen glass twice to stop the fuel leaking ._. -
Hey, I am looking for a group of survivors that likes to take the game very serious, and that like likes to play on populated servers. Vehicles is not a must, but it is a +, I am from sweden, so i would prefer a nordic group, but anything but Americans are fine. considering the time difference I have been playing DayZ for about a month, ( maybe more ) I have experience from all weapons, AS50 to PDW. Steam: tomten211

Hi guys. I am a somewhat seasoned DayZ player, except in the area of vehicles. I found an old bike and was derping around with my friend in the middle of a field I accidently started drifting off and started gliding along a player who was running in the opposite direction. I freaked out because I recently got a gillie suit and did not want to die, so I, without thinking, immediately signed off. I did not even get off the bike. The bike was stationary when I logged off. So my problem is, what is going to happen when I log back on? Will I just be in the same spot? Will I die if some took the bike and is going 30 down some road? Will it change if I go on to a different server from the one I was logged in to? Also a side note, whenever my friend joins a server, he instantly becomes passed out. Everything is fine (Blood, water, food etc...). He is passed out for about two minutes every time no matter what server he go's on. Any help with either of these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

Doom, where the hell did you see bulletproof vests and motorcycles in my suggestion? Im talking about 4 wheeled vehicles, besides the ATV

Average Life Expectancy lowered when in a vehicle
Pyro_Marine replied to alexthedude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. Look at it this way. You have two units. One with 100 men, and one with 1,000 men. You send them both on separate charges. 100 man crew loses 57 people, 1,000 man crew loses 184. Which one lose more? The one with 1,000. Who suffered worse losses as a unit? The 100 man unit. If you believe that searching for parts to vehicles is a "waste of time" then you shouldn't even be commenting on this thread. Why? Because you think searching for stuff is a waste of time, which is technically what makes this game fun. Searching for good loot right? When you play with friends, you could be scavenging for dog shit and it'd be fun if you're not a tight wad. 2. All you're simply saying is if he had less vehicles, less of them would have blown up. No shit? That doesn't mean the losses would have been less severe. He lost all but two because he had more to spare. What if he didn't have those extra two? He would have zero. Your point is null and void. 3.For fucks sake, did you...you know what, since you're too fucking blind to read what I wrote, you can bring this up all you want but I'm on topic. I already said if you're not jealous then good for fucking you. God damn. I'd like to call you retarded but then I'd be on your level since I'm a shit head and a moron. --- I can profile you based on the normal actions of regular players. --- Do you take me for an idiot? You throw out words like that when all you're pulling is a straw man argument. Fancy words do not equate to a victorious argument or debate. It just shows you have different forms of shit to throw onto my monitor that still lack solid proof of the success of your opinion. -
This suggestion applies more to future development but could be implemented/tested with the mods current state. Geographic servers - Each server represents a unique geographic area, to move between servers a player must navigate to the transition zone (edge of map) for the server. This would bring the player to next server over where they would repeat the process if they wanted to move to the next server. Your location would be saved on the server you are playing but if you try to log into a server without making the physical journey you would not be able to load into the server. Pro's - 1. Immersion- This would increase the scope of the setting; players would actually be a part of a huge world. Having to travel places would make you feel like you are in the world. 2. Better Server Performance- Content could be managed by server increasing performance. (ServerA is a city smaller in physical size to allow for more buildings and denser infected pops. ServerB is Farmland physically larger fewer buildings and fewer infected.) 3. Eliminates server hopping for looting/escape.- Players would not be able to transfer to other servers and maintain their same location. 4. Adds to End Game- Adds a sense of purpose for players/groups, they can "escape" from denser infected areas and gives them a use for cars & helicopters. Con's- 1. Less Jump in Play- Journey's, starting locations, friends to group up with, all "decisions" about playing the game are now more important because it would be much harder to group up. 2. Being alone- This feeling of being alone in the world somewhat exists now in this type of system you could truly be alone traveling across a server with few players/zombies. 3. (Future) Content- Texturing/creating the amount of content necessary to detail a massive world that maintains a player’s interest would be daunting. Implementation- Tracking- A token/pass would be attached to the player to represent what "world" they are in. This could be an invisible item or code attached to their backend profile/location. Worlds- A square of 9 would probably be the best starting place in my opinion this allows for a central zone to be fully surrounded by other zones. And if each zone comes even close to the current map size the world would be more than big enough. (For testing a square of 4 zones would be best, see below) Player Transitions- Transition areas at the edge and corners of the game map. The best solution would work something like this, Player enters transition area and his location/account gets a check that he is clear to transition to zone x. Player logs off, and logs on to next server over check if he is clear to enter into zone, if yes he is allowed to spawn at his location. Thus the transition zone is a "gray area" that exists in both zones. (Should be wilderness/empty areas) Alternatively the players could interact with objects like toll booths/gates/etc that allows them to receive new tokens and removes old tokens. Testing- This system could be tested with the current map but some modifications would need to be made and I'm not sure if any of these are possible. Also immersion could be affected because some subsystems could be changed/ruined to the point that they are no longer useful or realistic. As the current land mass on the lap is a reverse L 4 of these maps could be made to represent one massive island the only change would be which direction is N. Changing this would affect planetary positions and I'm not sure it would be worthwhile or possible to correct this at this stage in the mod. I believe testing would be of the resulting game play more than any specific mechanic. Would having to physically move your character to a different server ruin a player’s experience. TLDR: Servers represent unique geographic locations and thus force players to physically travel through them to reach other servers. Server hoping is eliminated. Adds endgame content and makes vehicles more important. Would this ruin jump in play? Would it ruin the gaming experience by forcing players to spend to much time in game travelling. Thoughts please?

Bikes don't act like vehicles when you try to run over zeds...I had to find out the hard way myself :P

So he can take time to do media interviews but can't take 5 minutes to make a post on his own mod's forums ? I thought he was too busy coding the stand alone/1.7.3 update and that's why he hasn't posted in about a month ? Anyways I'd vote for DayZ but right now I don't think it's right as the mod in its current state needs a little TLC to fix some major issues (artifacts, vehicles not saving, tents not saving etc. etc.) but maybe once the major issues are sorted out or the stand alone comes along I'll toss my vote in. Just my 2 cents, and I miss playing DayZ but right now I've not really had anything to do except die or kill other people.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
unconsciousobjector replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How about government troops, say squad level, traveling the "world" killing everything or essentially purging the land? All of them lootable and some armored vehicles would be great. I mean how cool would it be to see everyone in Cherno scatter like rats when a couple airplanes do a bombing run? Holy shit, a couple falling bombs followed by ground troops purging a city would be epic! EDIT: While I'm at it, why not a military base that's functional. operational and fully staffed? That would determinately add some drama and it's not unbelievable that some military survivors gather to a "base". If properly manned, it would require SEVERAL players to even contemplate a raid on the base. IN the unlikely event that a base is overrun, a scripted counter attack to re-take the base would be easy enough and provide a believable reoccupation of the facility. -
For some reason everything has been reset, all tents and vehicles are gone and i've restarted the server like 6 times now with it staying the same. I can't say i'm disappointed but it is odd. Seems like it's only vehicles, both buses were back at there spawn points, but i saw tents still on the side of roads.

Over the weekend we had 3 Thunderdomes, 2 server nukes, 5 assholes spawning vehicles, 3 spawning gear boxes and seven+ people teleporting and shooting players. But hell, that was just one server over 2 days. I'm sure you'll be luckier.

Request for Admin of US 2127 Dallas.
blinkz (DayZ) replied to Don Jocka's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As the admin on this server there is nothing I can do, every vehicle I have had on my server has vanished do to dayz problems on the hive that have been going on with every server. It was annoying since it took a week for vehicles to show up in the first place but I have come to terms with it at this point. I have lost a ton of gear because of this but it's an alpha so stuff like this happens. Admins have pretty much no ability to do anything aside from kick/ban players which I don't bother with since it just starts up a bunch of nasty threads about corrupt admins. My van turned into a white off road and my ural turned into a bike on a reset and on the next reset they were back to their normal spawning points so it became annoying and we eventually stopped repairing them and lost interest in them after fixing them for it to happen numerous times. Sorry about your stuff but there is nothing I can do about it. DayZ has claimed it back as it's own. I don't play on the server anymore to be honest and I haven't decided to keep it running or not at this point due to a lack of interest in the game until the standalone is released. So long story short: I wish I could help but there is honestly nothing I can do even as an admin to respawn your stuff where it once was.
