  1. At first I started picking them up. But I want to play this game legit so I literally do not touch any one elses stuff, whether it be from looting dead bodies, ammo crates, tents, vehicles or whatever. It doesn't take long to get all the stuff you need the legitimite way anyways.

    Standalone Suggestions

Since the mod seems to pretty much beyond repair imho. I've decided to rejig my suggestions list into a standalone suggestions list and remove discussion about the mod and bugs. There's so much duplication in here it's hard to credit original authors on the ones I didn't come up with myself but I try. Firstly communication. Dayz is all about interaction between players. It's important that communication is quick, clear and easy as death occurs so fast. 1: Whisper, Talk, Shout. Different ranges and audibility to both players and zombies. Also a whistle or some-such. 2: Improved hand signals for silent communication. 3: Walky talkies and radios for long range communication. http://dayzmod.com/f...walkie-talkies/ 3.5: (controversial) Find a way of either stopping 3rd party voice or making it transmit an audible (non specific "talking") noise in game. To encourage use of direct chat over 3rd party chat. And at least give those people that still use it the penalty of giving away their position in game. I discuss this at the end of the OP here: http://dayzmod.com/f...f-text-warning/ 4: Player Journals: http://dayzmod.com/f...ge__hl__journal . A great idea that will add a valuable humanising element. 5: Notes. Placeable notes. Being able to interact with players in this way is important I think. Limits will be needed of course. 6: Better hunting. Animals that are harder to hunt, they spook and run etc. Also I'd like to see Z's kill nearby animals, providing that feeling of a ravaged eco system and creating another unpredictable element to their behaviour. Combined with the zombie modifications below would create unpredictable zombie encounters. ie Wandering through the woods, a deer runs past followed by some zeds, then they spot you... Gear and loot etc: 7: A more involved crafting system. Makeshift weapons etc. Possibly more interesting cooking. 8:Far less high end military gear. I believe the CZ550 should be the top of the food chain for all but a very very lucky few. There should be less ammo and weapons in general , giving more of a scrabbling for survival feel. And tied in with the crafting system so you can always make SOMETHING to defend yourself with. Some discussion on this subject here: http://dayzmod.com/f...tality-of-dayz/ I also wonder if Thermal and NVG should go. The nightime / light mechanic is very rewarding. 9: Less predictable loot locations. Maybe a searching system so that you have to search more carefully to find goodies. 10: repairable generators etc. i don't agree with everything in this thread but there is some good discussion: http://dayzmod.com/f...enerators-v-33/ . I also know generators are in the game with an eye to being used so expect some of this stuff anyway. 11: Padlocks: Allows players to lock any door , blocking zombies. but players can break padlock with any weapon. Alolows players to hold up in a building against zombies for a while but not block players permanently. 12: Camo netting. To help hide vehicles. It's been suggested many times. 13: non lethal weapons. For instance tranq darts. To balance , bolt action, slow firing. !st hit slows player and blurs vision. 2nd shot slows more until they pass out. Epi pen neutralises effects. Again adds more gameplay options. 14: Shots damaging equipment. Discussion here: http://dayzmod.com/f...age-by-gunfire/ . Also weapon maintenance. Environment: 15: This ground mist is amazing, would be greatif this cropped up occasionally, http://dayzmod.com/f...136-heavy-mist/ . More atmosphere and horror in general. Zombies: 16: Zombies more curious about long range noises. For instance an explosion in the distance would make many of them shamble that way. Not agroed as such just curious. 17: Zombies not giving up so easily. It's currently to easy to lose zombies, and it is immersion breaking that they suddenly stop and give up straight away. A "searching" period after they lose a player would be nice. 18: Zombies spawning much further from the player, giving the feel that they are always there, and making them more dangerous , especially when combined with No: 16. Discussion here : http://dayzmod.com/f...ns-and-zombies/ (Ignore references to patch optimisations). 18: GORE. Lots more blood and gore all around. Be nice to see dismemberment etc. General: 19: Standardise Things: I'm assuming the standalone will provide a standard "this is Dayz" experience. http://dayzmod.com/f...dardise-things/ . Up the FOV a bit, and remove peripheral dots. 20: Server hopping: It's really nice to be able to change servers at will. And the flow of new people coming through a server keeps it alive in many ways. But I wonder if ghosting can ever really be fixed ? Do the pros outweigh the cons ? I'm not sure on this one but wonder if there should be a delay before you can go back to a previous server. Or possibly even being locked to one server ? 21: Linked maps to create a bigger playing area. http://dayzmod.com/f...linked-servers/ Achievable with current technology and doesnt have choke points. 22: Characters linked to timezones. So people can never TOTALLY avoid night-time play. http://dayzmod.com/f...synced-to-time/ Either this or possibly speeding up the day night cycle a little bit. Something to encourage nightime play as it is much more immersive. 23: Player customisation. More costumes and more mix and match, this allows groups to make a "uniform" for visual identification. This should include camo gear options etc, but Ghillie suits need to go, they currently overwrite bandit / hero skins etc and are too ... standard. These suggestions are or course just my opinion. But I feel strongly that Dayz is at it's best when immersion is at a maximum. I also know that there are elements of Dayz that really enhance the game but people avoid them because they put you at a disadvantage. Everything possible should be done to maximise the massive gameplay possibilities that Dayz has to offer, but that so many people never experience because they are given other options. The perma death mechanic is incredibly harsh but its what makes Dayz so compelling, there are other mechanics just as exciting in Dayz but they get overlooked. Im not discussing some issues such as Alt-f4, duping etc as I believe standalone will resolve them anyway.
  3. hey, i have played Arma and Arma 2 for a long time so I'm up to speed with the map, weapons, vehicles and mechanics etc but still have a bit to learn as far as DayZ goes. I have enjoyed playing solo but feel i'm now ready to hook up with other players to share the experience and improve my overall game play. Skype name: andre_piasecki1 Age: 41 Country: England like you guys I have a life, job etc but do play pretty regularly, have Ts3 and Mike etc if required.
  4. I've found its harder to find vehicles, spawns or other peoples.
  5. Hi there, i keep getting lots of great items, weapons and vehicles, and when i go to set up camp, away from cities, bandits kill me,i haven't been with a group yet and want to join one, so if there is a group that wants to adopt a new player, hit me up Cheers

make vehicles in dayz more interesting

Well, it's a bit complicated with the current engine, but should be doable in a fashion, even though it slightly breaks immersion. You could allow people to "transform" vehicles, like the hilux, into a "technical" if they hold the gun that is mounted on the technical model. You would walk up to the car with an RPK (which isn't currently in game but that could change) and the context menu would say something like "Attach RPK" at which point the hilux would despawn and be replaced by a matching technical with an RPK mounted onto it. In a similar fashion you could actually build detachable optics etc., just remove the current weapon and replace it with the other one. In the same way, you could add other parts to vehicles, even though it does mean having to model all the different models and spawn/despawn them with the respective parts given constraints of the engine (unless I'm mistaken). Still, it should be a bit of a tedium, but well worth the result. :D

make vehicles in dayz more interesting

I'd love it if you could reinforce vehicles with make-shift armour like in the Dawn OTD remake.
  8. Not just north, the western boarders as well as in any forest that isn't near an important point on the map are usual spots. People can hide vehicles ANYWHERE on the map though.
  9. Always looking for healthy and reliable members to join and help out a small squad, or just cooperate for missions (airfield raids, basic recon for supplies/vehicles, exploration of server territory(base scouting), and other shenanigans. I currently have between 2-4 with me and are working on a base. I play in 1.7.2.4 where all tents, vehicles, and base stuff will save. If you have DayZ Commander it is a 20 second download to switch between server versions as well. For the expense of a costume you get some more survival-based gameplay. 10. Would it be all possible to have someone explain how to install and setup a private hive server? I have been to countless forums and done some research and it seems there are many ways of doing it but what it the easiest and most efficient way? Thanks to all that are doing the private hive cause it gives players a broad experience on the game. There are many servers with 100-150 vehicles in which a person that has not been playing long can find and fix a vehicle and say "DUDE! I found a vehicle today!" Thanks for all the support to the dev's and server admin's! Thank you all!

    People living in debug lands

No, vehicles do save in the debug plains, you just need to use them every 24 hours. It was a big mistake since hoarders now hoard vehicles outside of the map. I agree, vehicles should despawn in the debugs.
  12. I'm glad it is for you, I actually really am- I just derive no amusement from it. There is nothing left to do, and this would be the same with or without tents, vehicles, or snipers. I don't even use a sniper. I play DayZ for the challenge of surviving in a hostile environment- and that challenge has quickly dissolved, leaving me with an empty game. When I play DayZ now, I limit myself on purpose to try and find amusement, such as not using guns, or only using guns, or not using a backpack... But that eventually gets easy, too. In the end, I hope DayZ is improved as much as it can be. And don't get me started on the standalone. *eyeroll*
  13. this isn't the first time i have had problems with vehicles not 100% on this server but i think it was your server that i had flipped 3 atv's on a bridge due to a glitch first 2 with my brother an i the 3rd trying to get one of the others unstuck ...it didn't work anyway you re-spawned them with the same damage we first found them in which put me outa the mood to fix them again atv's suck anyway ... now during a connection problem maybe on my end or a server restart or something on yours caused my first car to vanish without a trace. my leg is broken from playing with a bear trap and im in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with no food or water the plan was to get aid from my brother when he gets on but our last tent set up put me in almost the exact situation and it didnt end well for either of us .... bottom line is i would like my truck back with my gear in it and in the condition it was in when i "Dc" and i was only offline for about a min and there was only one other person on the server and he kept dying so there isnt a snowball chance in hell he took it while i was off. i hope something can be done about this or you can read something on your magic admin file telling you what happen better than i can explain it. thank you , fyi it was an white off road truck if that helps at all

    Changing Weather & Wildlife

Hi, I'm not really new to this game but I think this game should have more of a real life grip to it: Weather Rain: Decreases body temperature when staying still Could make certain surfaces harder to walk on (Ex: Having to walk up a hill because of incline, could slip and break limbs) Certain vehicles have less traction on wet surfaces & pavements Rain Storms (Monsoons): Causes a great drop in visibility & body temperature Certain vehicles lose traction on certain surfaces Hail (Ice): Damages Tents or vehicles depending on size of ice pellets Slows down the possible travel of players Heat Waves: Causes thirst to develop faster Causes characters body temperature to rise & must cool off in shaded/cool areas --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wildlife Adding a variety of more animals & birds like: Deers, Mountain Goats, Geese, Ducks, Moose etc... And some dangerous wildlife like: Bears, Wolves, Mountain Lions, Cougars, Vultures etc... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  15. If you are in Europe check us out. LU385 (ip- 94.242.227.202:2362) we run version 1.7.2.4 so tents and car saving does work. we are currently low pop but would like to grow. and there is a little bit of clan wars going on whit 5 regular groups that keep us server owners at bay. vehicles change hands or get destroyed every day. we encourage this and would like to see more groups moving in on our server. but i also think the climate suits the solo scavenger.
  16. I have expanded these suggestions to some extwnt, and added many more! COMRADES! If you like what you see, keep your beans and post instead! I only wish for Rocket and his team to have the opportunity to read what is below - nothing more! Not all of these ideas are perfect and many of them have been mentioned before Adrenaline - increased speed and strength in life threatening peril, with exhaustion following after Blood trails and pools bootprints and tracking ability to lock and barricade doors and windows ability to break locks with crowbar and barricades with that and ax ability to remove scopes and mods and jerry rig them to ALL kinds of weapons zombofication infection chance and a very very rare antigen. Find old frienda and put them to rest! graves amd headstones - ability to truly bury a corpse from this, the ability to really dig dragging living or dead bodies plus objects for barricades multichannel radios use of bare hands improvement to physical fitness over time and activity rope for all of its uses includong tying up players ability to make documentable missions ability to leap out windows ability to break specific bones swim underwater and chance to drown keep chance to lose items but givw us the ability to "tighten pack straps" to prevent loss; degrades based on speed and fast movement pitons and the power to climb planes (non military) trains to be armored or customized as invaluable bust risk mobile fortresses drugs - sedatives to incapacitate, cigarettes to stunt hunger ability to use regular objects like hunting knife, flashlight, chair etc in melee combat batteries and generators plus ability to engineer dismemberment and more realistic gore eyes partly adjusting to darkness chemistry and agriculture bullets do greater damage against living creatures, and less vs the undead (except headshots) making them the true menace they are setting wild fires ability to repair damaged structures zombies that can break through windows and barricades through strength of numbers addition of whistles, bells and birdcalls ability to dock boats and lock vehicles (can still break the windows to loot though) ability to verbally shout, giving direct comm much greater range but risking detection by zombies
  17. I don't like tents much, because they embody my least favorite element of the game: Persistent inventory after death. In my mind, when you die in the game, you should start over like it's your first time playing. Having a persistent tent stockpile breaks immersion for me in a very serious way. I think of DayZ as a multiplayer roguelike. If it was single player, I'd want the world to be reset every time you die. Vehicles, tents, loot, barbed wire, all reset. Since it's multiplayer, it's not fair for the world to get wiped out every time any player dies, and it's not practical to ban players from a given server when they die on it (although I think that would be rad). Tents aren't the only problem, either. Vehicles, knowledge of teh map, even a posse of buddies on the server all break the "fresh start" ideal of the roguelike model. The fact that I can play for a while, then die, then respawn in the same world is ruinous for me. I'm never a lost survivor on a foreign coast trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. I'm always "Near Kamenka", and then I use my uncanny hunches to run into the wilderness to a spot that should not, logically, conceal a camping tent with an M14 and a map and a compass and some morphine and some beans and a full canteen etc. and find exactly that. Spawning with the knowledge of where a fueled motorcycle is hidden flies in the face of the spirit of the game I want to play. Tents allow me to bequeath my assets to my next incarnation when I die, and that makes my character immortal, which makes the threat of death insignificant. No fear, no horror, no suspense, no fun. The worst that can happen to me is I'll have my helicopter blown up. I never get sent back to square one. I never lose anything important. If I play with friends, I don't even lose that much time. It allows people to play the game at the highest level of intensity, doing Cherno deathmatch or sniping Stary or farming the barracks with the full knowledge that whatever they achieve, be it negative humanity or a new rare piece of gear, that little tick toward 100% completion on their progress bar will be preserved forever. Most of use are usually around 80% amazing, with the tools for infinite survival, military-grade firearms and as much food and medicine as we could ever hope to need. I want us to be scraping by at around 15%, feeling good about having food but worried that we're not ready for a hostile player encounter, or hiding on a hill praying that the next guy to walk by has antibiotics we can kill him for. The guy with a GPS and a ghillie suit and a DMR should be the exception, and he has become the rule because he is eternal. A bullet in his face? He takes eight minutes to hit up his tent and he's everything he ever was. Find his tent, painstakingly empty it out and save it? He takes thirty minutes to switch servers, get gear from a different tent, reconstitute the one you attacked and return to service. He is a juggernaut, a force of nature. He'll always be on that hospital roof with that AS50 TWS, because those things are tied permanently to him. So I hate tents as they are. I'd be okay with them if they were unbugged, fully lootable, destructible, etc. If you put stuff in a tent, you should be about 50% sure you'll never see it again. You might stash some stuff there while you raid a loot site, or deposit something you want a buddy to pick up later, but the idea that you can cache gear for use in a future life is poison to me.

    Trololololol

@ DE 1651 So, today I went at a buddy's house to give him some shit and played some dayz, fixed up another chopper, had the most annoying bunch of ppl in the back "no go there no what about fuule, no that no this, later on that day they started shooting each other in balota thinking they're someone else *on a server that was just us* finally I had to leave my friend's house and left the only other chopper pilot in charge *he crashed it half an hour later wile attempting a barrel roll* ... oh well gathered parts, went to island, hopped, found a chopper on a night server, repaired it, and then we had the gas can incident. the chopper ate 4/8 gas cans and we had only other 4 to get to a gas tank.... on a pitch black server with no nvgs. I set my sights on Kamyshovo, and with one pixel worth of fuel I landed that thing in pitch black barely on the shoreline, like a fucking boss. later on some friends came and we got nvgs, we were all geared and pimping, chopper fully fueled, a patient comes in the teamspeak with broken bones, okay, we fly towards there and when we get near something shot at us, out maneuvered like a boss, got only 3 hits barely near engine, engine green with a slight tilt of yellow. we say our goodbyes to the broken bones dude and he left to another teamspeak channel for help. We say oh well, and started heading to kamenka for spare parts wile guessing what shot at us, mostly guessing an AK by fire rate and sound. Then suddenly under us something is shooting at us again, rotor orangered, engine yellow. pfff . Now it was obvious, we are the target of a hacker. He telelport followed us around wile we shot at him. I fly around in the most twisted ways and he didn't manage to get another hit on me, we decided that it'd be smart to go out to sea so A: we know where he'll teleport and B: he'll have lesser chances of hitting us. after we flew back and forth from one end of the shoreline to the other (as in NE~SW) we decided that if we are to survive this (you can't kill command ppl in vehicles, or teleport them for all I know and he's proven as such) we have to make him get bored and leave. We had 9/10 fuel tank full, a fun 3 hours of auto hover on @ 1.7km out of shore. We waited out between komarovo and balota for like 20ish minutes for the fuel to slowwwwly drain to 1/10 then land it and see if we get shot at or he just left, and suddenly the heli was 4 meters off the ground on the shoreline between komarovo and balota. one instantly got out and started shooting, I panic mode turned it around in an attempt to get out alive, but as I was angling it for max speed wile doing a sharp turn he got the engine, lost power and hit the ground hard that was 30 meters below. At this point I said fuck it and alt+F4d. Hacker dude tbh you've been the most challenge I've had in a long time, with your rapid fire AS50 and anti air units, porting of yourself and ours as well; but your aim was terribad. Even more that you needed 20 minutes to figure out how to teleport the chopper to you. Yes it's very hard to figure out to use the *teleport all vehicles to me* command. Most fun thing is, besides one of us that didn't want to alt F4 we all survived just fine, all of this considering you had complete control over us. ^_^. Dear hacker, to such course of actions I can only find that you ppl see yourself as impotent and need to feed your ego in a way or another. Just let me say, you needed 40 minutes of scripting to finally take us down and just then barely, and 4/5 of us got out alive. Tbh the only thing your e-peen did is prove further more how you and all of your kind how pathetic you are. If you are either bored or lack the skill enough to have to get hacks, then I suggest moving on to another game. of the 40ish minutes I've recorded after we started going from one end of the beach to the other and ended after we decided to sit our asses above the sea. I didn't record the last bits that finally took us down. Movie soon-ish. edit: future link for movie: http://youtu.be/Kml6XRuUGTs
  19. tl;dr for these long winded comments... I don't see why so many people are complaining. I'm currently running an M16A4 Acog (legit) and a Gold Revolver (hacked). I didn't hack it in, I found it in game. Functionally it's identical to the revolver... So, I should be banned for a skin on a weapon? Also for those basically shouting "hacked in means over powered", you're wrong. If I hacked in weapons, there would be lots I would go through before finding a weapon as over powered as the regular AS50 that's in game. We should just add in more weapon choices from ARMA II (variety is the spice of life), then auto-delete the things rocket considers over powered when they're hacked in, same with off-map items/vehicles in my opinion too. Hey look my post is white, I'm attention seeking.
  20. Stryker_

    Why the radio silence?!?

i cant wait for the next update so that me and my clan can start a base without the vehicles and tents losing all the gear in them and morphing to different veicles and losing all there gear. P.S im sick of that
  21. Digital (DayZ)

    The random small island.

You can drive vehicles around on the island but any item dropped on the island will disappear and you cannot get it back, also if you place a tent you cannot see it or interact with it but it's collidable. There is also a similar island that's about twice the size at the very top right of the map if you're zoomed all the way out, same rules apply there but there are about 8-10 animals spawns on that island. Also on another note if you're taking the chopper to the top right island and you fly along the coast you'll notice a bunch of interesting coastal land formations.
  22. Don't mind tents, but I reckon vehicles shpould be stripped of a lot of their storage spae, cos as it, is most people hide them away and never use them.

    Teamwork Rewards

I know, I know, this topic has been covered comprehensively. I've just finished reading three threads on the topic but I wanted to draw together some great ideas that I've read in other posts. I imagine that these are going to have to wait for standalone. Most are related to teamwork in some fashion. Their inspiration is the BF3 system where teamwork is encouraged but never enforced. 1. Server cycles. This has been covered before by people who have put forward the "over run" situation where teamwork is made mandatory because the PvE becomes so difficult. I don't advocate this but I would like to see a hundred day cycle where zeds become more numerous and aggressive as the cylce goes on. Lone wolves and new spawans shoud still be able to survive however. 2. Groups tasks I like the old 'fix the power plant' idea. The plant could be fixed and all major towns lit up at night. It would need to be an involving task requiring the efforts of many and would need to be shut down the same way. There could be a 'fix the generator' for smaller towns and villages. Other variations on this could be accessing a soviet bunker through assembling a device to open the steel doors and fixing an APC. Fundamentally it boils down to giving players reaons to work together that are mutually beneficial. 3. Player Perks I believe that Rocket has said that there will never be a class system and that is fair enough, but I think that perks would add to the game immensely. They can be simple, say for example: - Medic: only one able to give transfusions and bandages at twice the rate - Pilot: can fly the choppers - Locksmith: can open locked doors - Mechanic: able to repair vehicles with less fuss I'm sure people could think of more. They wouldn't be classes but it may make people think for a moment before they pull the trigger, "That guy may be able to get that door open. Maybe I'll risk the chat." 4. Construction I would like to see player constructed wooden structures including walls. The Freeside trading company sets up in Devil's Castle (?) and I would like to see clans being able to build their own structures. This would provide huge variation between servers and would allow teams to have a real impact. Imagine a situation where a bandit clan has a fort near NW airfield. They could really make life difficult for people on that server, maybe so much so that another clan will organise an attack and dismantle the fort. What do people think?
  24. My only thought at this stage is that they have too much storage space, I'd be inclined to remove the specific weapon and backpack slots and just leave the general storage (same for vehicles too). I don't object to them being destroyed on death.
  25. Lights Out

What kind of zombies should be in DayZ

Another point, yeah currently you can easily run away, but I expect Rocket to make sprinting more realistic and not allow you to sprint forever. In this case, zombies of any kind would be harder to just get away from and it would make vehicles that much more precious. Not to mention you'd be ALOT more careful around zombies if you knew you couldn't just sprint forever.
