How do you flip an ATV on a hill!!
Xucphra replied to mkmk139's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's the funny thing about ATVs, you're bound to flip it eventually, no matter how well you drive or how careful you are. The idea is to have fun with it and use it to find more stable vehicles like cars. -
Any way to save items in tent?
conthefruiter replied to ThuggleS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles are a bigger issue, sucks when you fix up a UAZ and next time you log in its gone back at its spawn, same with 2 atv's and a tractor. -
eventually you banned me for that: 1) my friends have put a few tents on the island and brought back parts for vehicles 2) my friends and I took away the loot of the tents on the edges of cards 3) and for the fact that I had and still have two of my friends were with AC50 TW What are cheats? And where exactly did you find hacks?

I believe it is pretty clear that the OP wrote what you call a 'novel' in an attempt to get enough support so that something is done to improve the game in the current state. Yes, alpha implies in development, and consequently it could be in any state, stable or unstable, and in an ever changing state. That's how DayZ was in the early days. It had its problems, but it was playable for the most part. Things would get broken, and the more crucial bugs would eventually get fixed. Updates came about very frequenrly. But it is not like that anymore. The last two updates, which by the way took quite a long time, fixed nearly nothing (graphical glitches, vehicles, teleports, etc). I believe it is pretty clear that the MOD is being left behind, and given no attention anymore because of the standalone efforts, which by the way, I am really looking forward to. However, I also believe it would be smart for Rocket and BI to at least bring the MOD to a more stable state, fix some of the more crucial issues, and that way people can play until the standalone comes out. Alpha or not, the game does create an impression on people. Most game companies don't release Alpha to the public, and that's because it can generate negative feedback on the game. So the OP is probably trying to appeal to Rocket so that the game he likes so much doesn't suffer from negative impressions. I see no problem with this post. It is a valid post.

How long does it take for weapons/items to spawn?
sostronk replied to Ajvkorn's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually thats not necessarily true about items not spawning when you arrive in vehicles. They actually will spawn. Its only Zombies that won't spawn when your in a vehicle. Although yeah, if its playing up I would get out and come in on foot again, but something Ive tested, the loot will quite regularly spawn whilst coming via vehicle as Ive seen it happen whilst still in the vehicle and nobody else around. -
Try checking around the mountain peaks above Petrovka. The thing about this is Petrovka isn't really a decent place to loot and the decent loots in the North/NorthWest (above NWAF) are not very good. People don't go to Petro very often and that means less player traffic above Petro. Alternatively, another place worth trying is the area around Pebodo dam. There is a fair bit of clearing around there so there are limited places to hide tents. But people like this area, there isn't much traffic and its a good place to refill Water Bottles. Another one is near the inland water part that comes in from the sea above NEAF. I find alot of traffic goes through there though. And that traffic is usually clan players so youve gotta be careful up there. I find alot of vehicles and tents. I think its a major route for boats heading over to skalinsky island. You can't see the inland bit of water on the DayZ DB map, it stops just before the edge but its around 136 019.

You're done with DayZ? Good, GO! There's the door. Don't expect them to "shut it down" just because you get too emotionally invested in your items/vehicles. Plenty of us still enjoy the game, hackers and all. Would it be better without hackers? Sure, but it doesn't suck because of them, respawn and try again. If you can't handle starting over, you're playing the wrong game to begin with.

Because the mod is dead until all the game breaking problems are fixed. The rush of people from summer sale is over and everyone has logged a high amount of hours (im sitting on 192 hours and haven't played in 2 weeks) The hackers ruin the gameplay for people and once you rent a server or join a group and dupe items the rest of what's left after hackers breaks the point of dayz. A temporary solution would be to remove tents and vehicles.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Chambers (DayZ) replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My DayZ Wish List Some of these have been mentioned before, some are outside of the capabilities of any game engine right now due to the massive load of tracking objects, but here's my thoughts. General Additions to the Engine - Sounds carrying further - maybe not enough to aggro zombies - but I know for a fact that I can reasonably hear a revolver shot from at least a 1000m, not the 52.8m set by the game. Wind should be a factor - don't worry about altering bullet drift yet, but I should be able to hear things for longer distances if they are coming downwind. - Have people be able to ride in the back of the pickup trucks, on the handlebars of bicycles, or even in the trunks of cars. - Holster/stow your pistol, put your rife on your back, and carry things like another backpack, a jerry can, or whatever. Move slower, fine, but I have two hands, let me use them. - Longer weapons or body parts poking through solid objects; not just prohibiting them from happening but allowing the body to move to accommodate them (i.e. legs and torsos bending along a wall as you lie prone) - It's not an easy task, but 'sold object' should mean SOLID. - More climbing, ability to jump, and squeezing though narrow areas - Fire! More Fire! - burn buildings, tires, tents, or vehicles - the smoke of a house fire could be seen for miles, and last for hours. More Object Control: - Put more things into other things - I should be able to fill barrels, bottles or jugs with fuel or water. Make me have to clean it so it's not contaminated (water in the fuel, fuel in the water) I'd rather be sick than dead from thirst. - Dumpsters - be able to hide in them. - Allow me to hide a stash of weapons or supplies in a container-like object like a dumpster, or under some rocks against an old rock wall - If I want to take a couple trash cans, put it in the back of my truck and drive it to a house across the map so that I can stack them and some boxes as well to get on the roof of a one-story house, I should be able to. - Dig a small hole and bury stuff - not an underground bunker, just a hole. With a tarp or box I could reasonably protect canned food, canteens, and other basic stuff. to reliably bury weapons, you'd need a box, a tarp, and and a great deal of axle grease. - No tent? Build a lean-to from wood, leaves and other stuff - works as well as a tent, I've built them myself, and if done right and placed strategically, can be camouflaged very well. - Even in the apocalypse, if I found a auto repair garage, I could modify my vehicle - you don't need power for ox-acetylene welding, just the tanks - for example, let me add light armor to civilian vehicles to protect tires, windows, and the engine a little better - I'd be slower, and still no match for an anti-materiel gun, but against lighter rounds have a bit more protection. Get a working generator and you can do more. - IIRC, towing vehicles is already possible in ArmA II. I would love to be able to tow cars, both useable and the rusting hunks in towns, and put them to use as barricades and whatnot. - Ropes; rappelling, climbing, stretch across a road to clothesline bikers, tie up hostages, or even string backpacks up in trees and have them act like tents. - Make your own cheap-ass, low quality, ghillie suit from plants and branches. Spreading charcoal from a used campfire on your clothes should help hide that clean survivor outfit of yours. A grimy old olive-drab tarp, covered in foliage, with a holes for the head/arms and worn like a poncho could work too. More points of failure - Cars break down - Guns jam, some rounds of ammo are duds, that old shotgun and box of ammo you found in a barn is probably not the most reliable. - Flashlight, l85 thermal sights, rangefinders, GPS and NVG batteries should wear out and may not be that water resistant if you take a swim. - That boat you found might have a leak, or maybe a tire blows out if you go too fast for too long or run over something hard or once too often (that one is at least partially already present). - Oh, your matches got wet? You should only have so many to a box, anyways. - Meat should go bad after a while - remember those raw steaks you put in your tent last week? Maybe that pig has trichinosis or that cow has a huge, pus filled infection that spreads during the gutting process. (perhaps mitigated by one of these 'learning skill' things I've been hearing about) - Ghillie suits need to be maintained after a few days. Hmm. I wonder if they're flammable? -
North America - DayZ co-op... Small & Tactical (3 to 4 members)
Farkinob replied to Farkinob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
2 other people, we act typically as survivors but it's kind of a mixed bag. We usually shoot on sight unless we don't feel it's necessary We don't have a camp because it's a new group. We plan on putting together a couple vehicles and use those as traveling camps -
If the server is running 1.7.2.5 then your tents being empty and your truck being turned into a bus is just a bug from the recent patch. Nothing can be done about that, but you can start playing on 1.7.2.4 servers where vehicles and tents do save.

Got a Helicopter! How to save it?
Ipurgepeople replied to Oliolia's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles seem to not be saving correctly, so I'm not sure. However, to communicate with other players, use "," and "." (comma, period) to cycle through channels till you get to "Direct Communication" and if they're within 80 meters you can speak to them. I believe if you type instead it only reaches 40 meters, or was that fixed? -
Save it a bunch of times to be safe, it should be in the same spot after server restarts. Some vehicles still have disappeared on me though.

I would even go a little further and say Dayz is about to die. 1. The item wipe that occurred recently thanks to the storage bug has brought the fact that we are playing an alpha back to the attention of many people. 2. Cheaters. On my favorite server, which had like 30-40 ppl only 4 weeks ago, you barely see anyone online these days anymore. The main group canceled and went over to GW2 when their entire collected equipment and vehicles were destroyed first by a cheater then by the game bug. Yesterday we had another cheater logging in killing everyone and every vehicle again, but the worst thing is that he dropped this all-you-can-loot box that contains 50x everything. Now everyone and their mom runs around with complete equipment, and if you die, you just re-equip at the box. Survival game has been completely destroyed on this server by a single person. We therefore tried some other servers but had to face reality: at least 50% of the players are cheaters in various degrees. Some do the extreme obvious cheating like invincibility, teleporting and so forth, other just log in, destroy everything they can including vehicles and proceed to the next server, and finally there are those silent cheaters, who secretly press a button once the die to get their entire equipment back. So we currently have two options: play on a locked servers alone, or join a populated server where you get frequently killed by cheaters or worse. Both options are pointless. The logical consequence is that we will not play DayZ anymore until the situation changes noticeably.

It used to be, apparently, that the first reset after a saved tent would clear out anything put in it (if you put anything in it) so it was recommended to drop in a empty can or the like until the server reset... Then start storing actual stuff. Last patch evidently broked how stuff is saved on the hive, so... Get situated, but don't expect tents to work correctly. Vehicles, I think they're just straight weird and kind of a crapshoot. Been hearing different opinions ("Saved vehicles always go back to original spawn points on server reset!" "Vehicle saving worrrrrks!") but I wouldn't get attached to any vehicles. Not that you should anyway, but, yeah.

LV#27 DayZ Lingor Island server & interactive DayZ Lingor loot map
foset replied to foset's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Vehicles save perfectly fine, not so sure about the tents as I haven't used them, but they should work OK... -
I started my own server, already figured out why vehicles aint spawning, but i am curious if it is possible to edit the lag threshold so it wont kick players with like 350 ping. it seems to be doing that.

So some hackers logged into our server then proceeded to teleport to us and rape us. All vehicles with us were destroyed then we all got some error message about them spawning in pipe bombs? 2 hours later after they blew our old camps up and warped to every camp using said pipe bombs, NOTHING has spawned. Our camps at diff locations are gone along with all vehicles. We've restarted our server and nothing will spawn, every single camp is wiped out like it was never there. Any ideas?

Any way to stop tent contents from disappearing?
echosyp replied to NightZ22's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't play on servers running 1.7.2.5, tents and vehicles do not save properly on those servers. We have kept our server at 1.7.2.4 and all of our tents and vehicles save properly after every restart. We will not be upgrading until 1.7.3 comes out. -
Hello everyone,I'm back with another story about my(and my friend's) encounter with Mountain Dew! So get this,me and my friend were playing together, and we were in Elektro, right? We went inside the church there and find this bus in front of it(which scared the f*ck out of us(that's another story which I probably will tell at some point if anyone wants to hear it))so we sprinted inside the church and looted it in mere seconds and this guy came in,he looked really confused and we figured he was a newbie. My friend and me started to discuss what to do with him and the guy started to run away and my friend shot him in the back with a M14,and I yelled at him "WHY THE F*CK DID YOU DO THAT?!"and the guy who he killed had a Mountain Dew on him,and my friend picked it up and I again yelled at him "DROP THE CAN NOW,ITS BAD LUCK.THERE'S A WHOLE THREAD ABOUT MOUNTAIN DEW'S EVIL PROPERTIES/CHARASTERISTICS!!" My friend then dropped the can and we started heading towards Cherno in hopes of vehicles and good loot, and while we were heading there along the railroads my friend heard a vehicle approaching us from Elektro and we immediately went prone and again,my friend insisted that we kill the guy and take his tractor(yes we were desperate(were not bandits 24/7)) After we killed the guy I jumped in the tractor in order to check it's condition and found out that it was in perfect condition and I then started to screw around with it and drove it up the mountain and then down hill. Then I let my friend try it out and he did the same, only that he failed and the first time he drove down the hill/mountain he crashed and the tractor ended up on it's side.Well we then started heading towards the lighthouse which is really close to Elektro. When we got there we found to our amazement 2(yes,TWO bicycles) and then decided that we start heading towards the airfield in north. I then started leading us there and found out that you can't brake fast with a bike and ended up in the water, and my friend asked "me where are you driving to" and seconds later he drove to the bottom of the ocean. We laughed a bit about it and decided to head towards Cherno instead of the airfield as its reeeeeeaaally far away from our position then. While we were heading there,my friend stopped for a moment to eat/drink and suddenly out of the blue this guy in a ghillie suit jumped out of the bush(we didnt head any footsteps) and we didnt know what the f*ck had just happened and the ghillie guy then slaughtered my friend with a hatchet. Before he killed my friend,he managed to shoot about 5-10 shots from his m14 to the guy but he didn' die, while he was shooting at him,I shot 2 full AKS kobra clips at the guy, about 30 rounds hit him in the head, yet he didn't die. I then decided to leg it and started running away while the lunatic chased me,only to be shot down by his M9 SD.After he broke my bones,he walked to me and killed me via his hatchet. While we were in the lobby I chatted to my friend via Steam chat and said to him " I told you,Mountain Dew IS bad luck" BTW,we figured the guy was a hacker, but that didn't bother us since we got a "funny death"(instead of the sniper b*lls*it) And before you start the calling us bandits, don't.We're not bandits,we've just got a lot of pent up anger after being killed countless times because of others(=we sometimes kill others in order to relieve the pressure, then go non-bandit) TL;DR = Mountain Dew is,once again,BAD m*thaf*cking luck!!

Group looking for a stable new home!
echosyp replied to Zhandris's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
US 23 is always seeking new players to come join us. We are a veteran server with 3DP: ON, CH: ON, Waypoints: ON (Requested by some of our regular players, so we listen and try to provide the community with what they want). We are hosted by Vilayer.com and routed from Dallas, TX. We currently run on GMT -6 which is Central Time Zone. The server restarts every 6 hours, 3am, 9am, 3pm, 9pm Central Time. I have an active list of admins who keep watch over the server pretty much all the time. We are running 1.7.2.4 though, as it does save tents and vehicles properly so you do not have to worry about your tents and vehicles being gone after a restart. We will not upgrade until 1.7.3 comes out. -
The Sad Realization.
[email protected] replied to HamTheBacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just as soon as that server gets restarted all your work for fixing/keeping vehicles will be gone. In v1.7.2.5 all cars are reset to respawn on server restarts. Tents remain if saved, but bye bye vehicles. No reason to get upset about it. Me and my friends do it every night and it is the experience with friends that make this game fun even if a hacker comes along. Whatever we laugh and then help whoever died. A buddy of mine runs a server and they have tents with all heli repair parts, so when he restarts his server (every 8 hours) they fix the chopper and keep it. Kinda lame tbqh.
